A little Fox history:

The Fox Theatre was developed in 1928, when the Atlanta Shriners sought a prominent location to create the organization's headquarters. Inspired by the status and ornate beauty of ancient temples and mosques, the Shriners constructed the 250,000-square-foot theater with the help of William Fox for over $3 million dollars, around $40 million dollars today. Opening on Christmas Day in 1929, The Fox hosted the premiere of "Steamboat Willie," Walt Disney's very first cartoon featuring Mickey Mouse. Decades later, however, The Fox had fallen into disrepair and in 1974 faced demolition. Luckily, with the help of the "Save The Fox" campaign, the public raised over $3 million dollars and The Fox Theatre was successfully rescued and restored to its former glory.

After such a strong comeback and years of bringing entertainment to city of Atlanta, the Fabulous Fox still offers something new and exciting for its guests each year.

Experience Broadway in Atlanta

You don't need to travel all the way to New York City to take in a Broadway show. As one of Atlanta's premiere live entertainment locations, The Fox makes Broadway accessible to the entire South. Its 4678-seat theater books more than 300 performances every year, including Broadway favorites like The Lion King, Mama Mia!, Rent and Hamilton, and was also noted as the last public place Prince performed.

Catch iconic flicks

Enjoy watching classic, vintage and modern movies at The Fox Theatre all summer long as part of the Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival. Shown on the massive 26-foot by 56-foot screen under the theater's iconic evening sky, guests will feel like they're taking in a movie under the stars throughout this unforgettable experience.

See the  Mighty Mo

The "Mighty Mo," a massive 3,622-pipe Möller organ with 376 stop tabs, 42 ranks and four manuals, claims the title as the second largest theater organ in the world − and it calls The Fox Theatre home. If you're planning on visiting The Fox for a Broadway show, during the Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival or for the Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker, make sure to arrive a little early to see the "Mighty Mo" in action.

Take a tour

If you really want to see everything The Fox has to offer, take one of the guided tours offered to visitors. This 60-minute tour will take you on a journey through 10 key locations around The Fox and will showcase the history and opulent majesty of the building. Tour ticket prices include $18 for adults, $15 for military and seniors and $5 for children ages 10 and younger.

Throw a private event

Whether you're planning a Sweet 16 party, wedding reception or Bar Mitzvah, don't miss out on having your once-in-a-lifetime event at The Fox. The Grand Salon ballroom features a luxurious atmosphere with Arabian motifs and includes the use of an outdoor terrace. The Egyptian Ballroom surrounds guests with the lavish ornamentation and breathtaking scenery of Ancient Egypt. Both ballrooms include the use of the theater's Arcade, which offers a stunning marquee entrance for your event.

Fox Theatre directions and parking:

The Fox Theatre is located at 660 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta.

I-75 South - Take I-75 South and exit at North Avenue. Take a left at end of ramp, and turn left at Peachtree Street. After one block, you'll see The Fox Theatre on the left.

I-85 South - Take I-85 South and exit at North Avenue. Take a left at end of ramp, and turn left at Peachtree Street. After one block, you'll see The Fox Theatre on the left.

GA 400 South -  Take GA 400 South to I-85 South. Exit at North Avenue and turn left at end of ramp. Turn left at Peachtree Street and after one block you'll see The Fox Theatre on the left.

I-20 and I-75/85 North - Take I-20 to I-75/85 North, and exit at West Peachtree/ Spring Street. Follow to Peachtree Street and turn left. After two blocks, The Fox Theatre will be on the left.

Many lots surrounding The Fox offer parking to theater patrons. Additionally, when you purchase tickets through The Fox, you can select a parking location and pre-purchase your parking fee. Parking prices vary.

Atlanta’s historic Fox Theatre opened on December 24, 1929. Located on Peachtree Street in the heart of Atlanta, the Fox is one of Atlanta’s premiere venues for live entertainment. Over 300 performances take place each year and include movies, music, Broadway, and comedy. The theatre is on the National Historic Register, features 4,678 seats, and is visited by over 750,000 people per year.

Fox Theatre Tours Tours take place on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays and will go on sale two weeks in advance. Children 10 and under are admitted at no charge. To inquire about booking a tour, please call 404-881-2100.

Fox Theatre Ticket Office Tickets for all events are available at the Fox Theatre Ticket Office on a walk-up basis only. The Fox Theatre Ticket Office has no service charges for most shows.

Tickets for & Juliet at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre go on sale Sept. 13

ATLANTA - Regions Bank Broadway in Atlanta has announced that tickets for the highly anticipated musical & Juliet will go on sale starting Sept. 13.

The show will run for eight performances at the Fox Theatre from Jan. 7-12, 2024. Tickets, starting at $35, will be available for purchase at the Fox Theatre box office, located at 660 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30308, or online at foxtheatre.org/andjuliet. Tickets can also be purchased by calling (855)-285-8499. Group orders of 10 or more can be placed by contacting the Fox Theatre directly.

The & Juliet tour will feature Broadway’s Rachel Simone Webb as "Juliet," along with Paul-Jordan Jansen as "Lance," Teal Wicks as "Anne Hathaway," Corey Mach as "Shakespeare," and other talented cast members. n.

The musical, which opened on Broadway in November 2022, has been a massive hit, playing to sold-out crowds and breaking box office records. & Juliet flips the script on Shakespeare’s classic by imagining what would happen if Juliet chose a different path after Romeo. The story comes to life with hit songs like "Since U Been Gone," "Roar," and "Baby One More Time," making it a must-see romantic comedy.

The creative team behind & Juliet includes Emmy-winning writer David West Read ( Schitt’s Creek ), director Luke Sheppard, and choreographer Jennifer Weber. The musical has enjoyed international success, having been performed on four continents since its world premiere in 2019, and continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

The one-week limited engagement in Atlanta will feature performances at 7:30 p.m. from Tuesday to Thursday, 8 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Many people visit the Fox Theatre, not only for its breathtaking architecture but also its haunted past. Learn more on a tour of haunted Atlanta with USGA.

The Fox Theatre is one of Atlanta’s largest event and performance venues. The theater was built in 1926, originally as the main office for the Atlanta Shriners club. You can see the Shriner influence in its design and mosque-like architecture. 

Movie industry leader William Fox ended up leasing the theater and turned it into the lavish cinema it is today. Today, locals and visitors can enjoy live music and performances at the famous Fox Theatre.

But something else lurks in the balcony and plays the organ when no one is around.

Fox Theatre Origins

William Fox was a well-known theater mogul who bought and built cinemas across the country. He opened the Fox Theatre in 1929 after leasing the property from the Atlanta Shriners organization. The Shriners remained in a section of the property until 1949. 

By 1932, the Shriners and Fox couldn’t financially support the theater, and Lucas & Jenkins (a company that owned many theaters) and Paramount Pictures purchased it. It wasn’t until the 1940s that the Fox Theatre truly flourished as a popular event venue in the city. 

For decades onwards, it served as the location for several famous music artists, performers, and other events in Atlanta.

Ghostly Encounters

Catching a show in the Fox Theatre when it’s packed is a treat on its own. However, having a tour of the entire facility to try and encounter spirits is an altogether different kind of experience. 

One of the most famous ghost stories involving the Fox Theatre concerns the elevator backstage. 

Legend has it that a girlfriend of one of the theater’s managers passed away, and her spirit lives in the backstage elevator. There are countless reports of the elevator working on its own, usually traveling between the first and fourth floors. 

Some people who tour the Fox Theatre claim to hear strange noises coming from various parts of the building. If you’re quiet enough, you may even hear the infamous footsteps that come from the audience seats while you stand on the main stage. 

Moreover, many tour-goers claim to feel a sudden chilly sensation in certain parts of the theater. Whether that’s just a draft or something more spooky is up to your imagination. 

Haunted Organ 

The massive organ (nicknamed “The Mighty Mo”) is one of the theater’s most popular items. One of the earlier organists died and had his ashes scattered around the organ. The legend goes that you can sometimes hear him playing his beloved instrument on quiet nights. 

While the sound of music can be pleasing, it can also be highly unsettling knowing there’s nobody in the organ room.
