Tabyana Beach in West Bay Roatan

The Most Beautiful Beach in Roatan

A visit to Tabyana Beach is one of the most popular shore excursions for cruise ship passengers. There is only 70 feet between the amazing reef and the beach where you can relax and enjoy spectacular views of the sea. Here, you can snorkel, swim, lie in the sun, rent kayaks / banana boats, and play volleyball. Some cruise ship tours include a barbecue lunch with complimentary ice tea and lemonade available during your visit. Souvenirs can be purchased at the popular Rusty Fish and Waves of Art. Make sure to visit the amazing Roatan Chocolate Factory and get some cool sweet treats.

Gumbalimba Park

Located in West Bay, Gumbalimba Park is one of the most popular beach attractions for passengers on cruise ships. Tourists will have a chance to get up close and personal with amazing sea creatures. Head out to the Coxen’s Cave and check out numerous artifacts and exhibits, as well as a large 3D map of Roatan. There is an Insectarium where you can learn about dozens of species of bugs including some of the shiniest butterflies in the world and the strongest beetles.

While you are touring the grounds of the popular Gumbalimba Park, you will have a chance to cross the 238-foot-long bamboo suspension bridge. Expect to see a couple iguanas along the way and you can even pose with a macaw. One of the main attractions in the park is the amazing White Face Capuchin Monkey. These medium-sized monkeys easily adapt to places colonized by humans and are always more than happy to pose for pictures with tourists.

Tabyana Beach in Roatan Honduras (Best Shore Excursion!)

After spending a number of days in Roatan I finally figured out the mystery of Tabyana Beach! While it doesn’t really say it anywhere, Tabyana Beach is another name for West Bay Beach.

There is a resort directly on West Bay Beach that is named the Tabyana Beach Resort.

It sits on the south end of west bay beach, and I previously thought the beach got this name from this resort, but after talking to a couple of locals they told me otherwise.

Supposedly the actual name of West Bay Beach is Tabyana Beach, but everyone calls the beach West Bay Beach because it sits in the West Bay neighborhood and then the name West Bay Beach just kind of took over. If you type Tabyana Beach into Google it will automatically switch you over and take you to West Bay Beach. You can read additional details about West Bay Beach here.

Location: Tabyana Beach Resort

If you are looking for Tabyana Beach Resort specifically, it is located at the far south end of West Bay Beach. Just beyond the resort is a rock cliff that marks the southern boundary of the beach.

Hotel Reservation Not Required

Specifically addressing this to that portion of the beach in front of the resort. You do NOT have to be a guest at the resort to hang out here. West Bay Beach and Tabyana Beach are open to the public. This is the area that has the most hotels and resorts in Roatan.

While all the beaches on Roatan are supposed to be public, some in effect require you to purchase a day pass or to be a hotel guest to enjoy.

The Tabyana Beach resort is not one of these. You can enjoy the beach directly in front of the resort without issue. 

What to Expect at Tabyana Beach

Generally, you can expect gorgeous water and an opportunity to enjoy it while lying in the sand. Directly in front of the resort there isn’t a wide stretch of sand.

The sand here is taken up by resort loungers that extend almost to the water line. To use them, you have to be a hotel guest.

When you are on this beach you are only about 100 feet from the famous Mesoamerican coral reef . Make sure you book a tour to experience the reefs that are chock full of aquatic life!

You are literally close enough to the reef that you could swim there from the shoreline, but experienced guides are best at taking you directly to the best spots, and these tours are shockingly affordable.

This is the most popular beach on the island, so it does get crowded. That being said, it isn’t super small so there generally is enough space for everyone to spread out on.

What Else To Do In The Area 

You definitely want to do a snorkel or dive tour, and I also recommend the Gumbalima Eco-Adventure park , which is actually walking distance from Tabyana Beach.

Conclusion : Is Tabyana Beach Worth Visiting?

There are a lot of gorgeous Caribbean Beaches . If you are interested in diving to see the most amazing coral sea life and then want to relax afterwards, you will love Tabyana Beach.

Going on the Oasis in a couple of weeks and I booked a beach break at Tabyana Beach in Roatan. I selected the excursion with snorkelling and lunch. After I did this I saw a YouTube video where the creator said that a snorkelling guide is included but not the snorkelling equipment and that the gear needs to be rented separately. Is this true? It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. I would assume if I booked the excursion with snorkelling that I would get the gear but it doesn’t say either way in the excursion description.

I cannot say for sure but a review I read on tripadvisor said that they had to rent gear like paddleboads and snorkeling gear and recommended bringing your own snorkel gear to save money.  We are on the Oasis in a couple of weeks and will be sitting 5 feet away from you on the other side of the rope sectioning off the "Tabyana Beach" area from the rest of West Bay Beach.  We will take our own snorkel gear and snorkel the exact same place you will snorkel.  It is an amazing beach to visit and snorkel (but can be done for 1/4 the price that the cruise lines charge for Tabyana Beach for the same experience).

You can take a cab there.  Also no, that excursion does not include equipment.  However if you dont have your own stuff the ship excursion may be better as it provides transportation, lunch, and chairs.

You can just grab a cab at the port.  I have no ideas on pricing since the last time we did it, it was over 10 years ago.  

We have booked a private tour with Victor Bodden tours in 2 weeks for our group of 22 (he is giving us a 29 passenger bus for the day.  They offer private tours where he takes you to the beach and offers other add-ons if you are interested in them, but he also has set tours you can join as well, many ending up exactly where you want to go.   https://www.boddentours.com/roatan-fun-n-sun
