New Orleans, LA

Located on the Gulf Coast in Louisiana, New Orleans lies about five and a half hours east of Houston, TX, and is within a two-hour drive of Baton Rouge, LA. While there are many sectors within the city, the French Quarter is the most visited area, and is known for its delicious Creole cuisine and toe-tapping street musicians. Grab a beignet at Café du Monde, or head out to tour the mansions that can be seen over the greenery of the Garden District. NOLA is also the home of Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest, so plan your trip at the right time of the year to join in the festivities of these celebrations. In addition to these large festivals, the "Big Easy" of Louisiana has many other small celebrations throughout the year. While it is mostly recognized as an adult oriented city, there are opportunities for families with children to enjoy a visit as well. The wealth of culture and art found around the Crescent City provide something for everyone to love. Whether you are having a good time down Bourbon Street or looking out for ghosts at St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, a visit to New Orleans is guaranteed to leave you with memories you won't forget.

I apologize in advance for this lengthy review but it must be done. My husband and I organized a cruse on Norwegian for 34 of our family members. From the get go we had issues. Our cruise consultant, Krista, couldn't be bothered to return any of our phone calls after everything was set up. I had a few questions and for a month I left messages, only to have them fall on deaf ears. My husband, kids and myself were on a flight with a layover and the rest of the family got a straight flight. Our layover was in Chicago. The plane we were suppose to be on was delayed 6 times, which made us miss the ship. We were flying United, not happy with them either...they get no stars from me. After the first delay, I tried calling Krista, and go figure, she didn't answer and no phone call back. My husband and myself were on the phone with United and Norwegian, respectively, with no help from either companies. We did everything humanly possible to make the ship. Now when we originally made these plans, Krista told us that if we went through Norwegian with the flight arrangements that we would be covered because if there was a delay or cancellation that made us miss the ship, that it wouldn't be our fault but the airlines and we would get our money back...well, now they're telling us that's not true. I've made reservations at the spa and other things that were pre paid, they told me I would get a refund and no refund has been issued. Norwegian's customer service is the worst!!!! They've made, what could have been a memorable family vacation, one we would all like to forget. Norwegian Cruise Line is definitely thumbs down!!! Our next cruise will be on one of their competitors.

Food: 4 Service: 3 Date/Time: 12/8/2019 - 12/13/2019 Destination: NOLA to Cozumel to Progreso to NOLA Took notes as I went along so apologize for the long list of shorthand :-) Did some comparisons between this ship and Celebrity Equinox - Feels cramped vs Celebrity - Room feels smaller along with the balcony - Buffet feels less open with buffet line running in the middle on both sides so you have to go the entire length to see all the offerings (most of the time it's the same on both sides, but sometimes they substitute or run out) - The design of the ship may be what gives off the cramped perception since both this ship and the Celebrity one are about the same length but this ship had quite a bit more rooms and capacity - Staff is par for service. They do their jobs well but they don't seem to really enjoy it. Friendly but not always happy. Maybe with the higher capacity vs Celebrity, they deal with more passengers and therefore more work to service them - Much more crowded since the ship allows about 40% more passengers than Celebrity in the same size ship Norwegian app - No free messaging while onboard - Doesn't provide a menu for the main dining rooms - Map of ship's travel is non-interactive Yes there's a Starbucks! Garden Cafe (buffet 6am-9pm)... 3.5 stars - Asian, American, Salads, Grill, Soups and Desserts - Water, tea, flavored water, tea bags, coffee, hot water, milk Savor (American sit down)... 4 stars - sit down restaurant with slightly changing menus each nigh - good service and good food Shanghai's Noodle Bar (Asian sit down).... 3.5 stars - Spring roll, udon (thick noodles), fried rice, pot stickers, dessert - Tables were basically like sitting at a sushi bar with 5 stools on each side... kinda cramped if you have people on either side of you since you have only about 12" of table depth to eat on - 3.5 stars, 4 star service, 3 ambience Cozumel (For those who've never experienced it)... 4 stars - At the International Port, the first thing you encounter is, of course, Tourist Trap Mall :-) Pass all the barkers trying to pull you into their shops and, if you kept going straight, you'll end up at the entrance where the taxis park. The cheaper souvenirs can be found across the street or if you need Starbucks then grab a cab and head to Punta Langosta Mall where there's even more cheap souvenirs and t-shirts and restaurants. Cost of the cab as of 12/10/2019 is $8 one way. - Everyone is friendly (especially the ones trying to sell you stuff) SHOW: Bob Brizendine (comedy & magic)... 4 stars - Funny show with heavy audience participation in the magic parts Progreso... 2 stars - Small mall on the port - Free shuttle to downtown which drops you off at, of course, a market :-) Nicoli Restaurante (3.5 stars) is a short walk from where the shuttle drops you off and has WiFi if you purchase something. The empanadas are good (3 small ones) and the hot sauce is HOT! Avoid the local water as usual. Deboarding - starts just after docking at 7am - if you carry your own bags, you can depart first, otherwise they go by tag color provided to you - must be out of the room by 9am and off the ship on the final call around 9:45am - the port has one way street in and then out the other side.... it gets a VERY long line of shuttles, taxis, etc waiting so don't expect to get out too quickly.... best thing to do is walk up Julia St to Convention Blvd and call your Uber/Lyft/Taxi there.

NCL Getaway is our favorite ship in over 20 cruises on multiple cruiselines. This ship was perfect sized. It never felt crowded even in buffet lines, shows, MDR, or getting on/off the ship. The staff was top notch and some of the friendliest we ever had. I'd highly recommend this ship to people of all ages. It's great for solos, couples, and families. Embarkation was easy breezy. We arrived around 10-10:30 to the port dropped our luggage with the porters and made our way through security to check-in. Found a seat and waited for group5 to be called. This didn't take much time at all and we were quickly on board. As soon as we got on we split up to conquer a few things. We went immediately to the comedy lounge to get our dinner reservations sorted out which was very simple and we got all the times we wanted for our group of 6. We immediately went to the taste dining room for lunch. This was a very nice and not crowded experience as we could relax and eat while waiting on our room to be ready. We also got a few drinks which were included in our package, but the taxes applied since we were in port. After lunch, our rooms were ready pretty quickly so we dropped our bags off then wandered around the ship. We had a midship balcony on deck 8 and our friends were in an aft balcony on deck 13 since we booked guarantee rooms. As far as cabins go, the midship balcony on deck 8 was an incredible spot. Only steps away from Syds Pour house, the sunset bar, La Cucina, Ocean Blue, the Mojito Bar, and the shops and photos. This was a prime location we would be happy to book again. Our friend were not in as ideal of a location being deck 13 aft, but their balcony more than made up for it. Being an aft balcony it had 2 chairs a table, and 2 lounge chairs with ample space and an awesome view off the back of the ship. Noise was never an issue for us on deck 8 in room 8154, but the other room was 13906 and they had quite a bit of noise during the deck party, but it didn't last all night. We had ample space for 3 adults in each room. There was plenty of storage the only complaint we had was the closet was so close to the bed it made it very difficult to access. The bathroom was excellent with no shower curtain, but a glass door. This was only our 2nd Norwegian Cruise, but our 20th Cruise overall. Our first NCL cruise was on the Gem to Bermuda in a suite so this was a different experience, but honesty still incredible. The food on this ship we found very delicious with the exception of the dining room desserts. The buffet food really impressed us, Osheehan's is always a favorite for either breakfast, lunch, or a snack, the dining room at lunch was always great, and the speciality restaurants we tried were decent. We had 2 of us in the room with free dining then we purchased a 4 night plan for the 3rd person. We tried Cagney's, Moderno, Le Bistro, and Ocean Blue. We found them all to be pretty good, but Le Bistro was our favorite overall and Cagney's a close second. The Omg cheesecake in Cagney's was the best dessert all week and Ocean Blue's cheeecake was a close second. Moderno honestly was very good, the salad bar itself is worth it if you don't have a meat eater. Moderno was an awesome experience as we had a joint birthday celebration which they brought out a cake and sang for us. The cinnamon pineapple was also quite amazing. Le Bistro had the best steak of the trip. The dining room food was pretty good and we found the service to be much better than our previous Norwegian Cruise. They were very attentive and hospitable. The meals were good, just lacking on desserts as we found the buffet desserts to be better. Having the drink package was a 1st & a wonderful experience for us. We tried so many different drinks and were very happy with most of them. Margaritaville was an awesome touch tand we loved the art the bartenders did in our mudslides. It will be hard to cruise without the drink package now. We loved hanging out at the sunset bar & found them & mojito bar bartenders to be the best. Entertainment on this ship was the best we've ever had on a cruise. From the deck activities, the comedians, the shows, the escape room were top notch. We loved the Million Dollar Quartet & the comedians probably most. Burn the floor was a well done show and the singers and band that played in Syd Norman's Pour House were excellent. The water slides on this ship were a blast and the ropes course was a monster and quite challenging with the zip line and walking the plank. Our only complaint here is he wouldn't let us take our GoPro. Recommend ATV in Costa Maya, Zipline in Harvest Caye, LFK in Honduras & sloth, snorkel in GC, & Blue Hole & Konoko in Jamaica. 9 days was the longest cruise we had ever done, but now it will be hard to go back to a 7 day. NCL Getaway is an excellent ship with so much to offer. The speciality dining options are fabulous & they even have a Starbucks on board. This is the best cruise I think my family has ever taken.

I have cruised a few times before, but this was my first (and last) time with Norwegian. Before I begin this lengthy review (it's a short novel), let me start by saying that when I go on vacation, I expect that there are going to be mishaps, hurry-up-and-wait, etc. Nothing is perfect. That's fine. What I do not expect is the absolute shit show Norwegian was, at every turn. We did a 9 day Western Caribbean Cruise out of New Orleans from 2/7 to 2/16, 2020. The port itself is a hot mess, and that is not Norwegian's fault. The port is in the middle of construction, and whomever is in charge of conducting traffic needs to rethink their approach. From pick up from the hotel, to drop off at the port, took at hour; and our hotel was only ten minutes away from the port. So we spent most of the time in bumper to bumper traffic at the port. Once we dropped off our bags and got in line, it took FOUR HOURS to get onto the ship. If you've cruised out of New Orleans before, you may know that the line snakes back and forth inside. It was very hot and the only water offered was just before you go through security at the end of the line. Would have been nice of the staff handing out water at security could have gone down the line to all the hot, sweaty, folks still in the back of the line. There was never any explanation for why it was taking so long, either. I've never waited that long to get onto a ship before. To get through security and check in was a shit-show. The staff were disorganized, arguing with each other, equipment was malfunctioning, and there were errors with our rooms that were eventually sorted out. Finally, we were able to get on the ship. We received our bags rather quickly, and our cabin steward Mark came by quickly to introduce himself to us. Overall, our cabin experience was good. Our room was cleaned daily and he was always polite when he would see us in the hall. However, on the first day, we asked for extra towels, which he obliged. Now, on other cruises, if I made a request to the steward (i.e. extra towels) I have extra towels for the rest of the cruise without having to ask. Unfortunately this was not the case with our cabin steward. In fact, I asked for extra towels two other times and never received them. Not a big deal, but just added to the overall disappointing experience. I found the staff overall to be unfriendly except in the buffet and Wasabi. The staff in both restaurants were friendly and attentive. Two other staff that stick out to me was Ray at Sunset Bar and Charmaine at the climbing wall. Both were very friendly, remembered us, and chatted with us frequently when they were not busy. Dining was poor. Moderno Churrascaria was our first specialty dining experience. The food and drinks were amazing, however the service was terrible. Our waitress never came to refill our waters or check on us after taking our drink orders. We had to flag down another staff to be waited on. She did manage to come back to give us the check but that was it. At La Cucina, we waited 40 minutes to be served our appetizers and another hour before we received our entrees. We watched a number of other parties come and go, while we sat and waited. Our waiter did come and apologize a number of times and explained that the "chef was new" - but seriously? almost two hours to receive a meal? The food was okay. Nothing special to write home about. We ate at Tropicana one evening, as well. Our waiter was rude; after my parents ordered their appetizers he cut them off asking "is that it?" He only came to check on us one other time towards the end. Again, another staff was flagged down to refill our waters. I ordered mini tostadas and corn bisque - both were cold and bland. And my caramel creme tasted like fish! I had my partner taste it just to make sure I wasn't losing my mind and he confirmed. Interestingly, my dad ordered the same dessert and his tasted fine. Bland, but at least not like fish. I never had an opportunity to let anyone know, because no one came to check on us after dessert. One of our excursions started two hours late. No idea why, no explanation provided. We lost two hours at the Maya Key Private Island, which really pisses me off, since we pay for the excursions separately. Also, I never received my copy of on-board charges, despite calling and requesting it twice before leaving the boat. Apparently I can contact Norwegian Post Cruise Services and wait 15 days to even get a reply. Hard pass. And lastly, there were a number of little things that just irked me. I left the cruise feeling very disappointed - especially since it was my partner's first cruise, and I'm not sure I am going to be able to convince him to give it another try. So if you're thinking about a cruise, go with anyone else. Royal, Princess, Carnival. Just don't waste your money with Norwegian.

We typically cruise aboard the Celebrity line but this month my wife chose the NCL ship "Getaway". We sailed on January 5th. All I can say is fagetaboutit. Seriously, there was very little about the trip we enjoyed. NCL's ship held 4000 passengers serviced by a crew of 2000. It is a large vessel but servicing that many people is difficult. Embarking: We had arranged for transportation through NCL when we booked our trip. Upon picking up our bags it was an adventure trying to locate the NCL people and get signed in for our bus ride from the airport to the dock. Once we located them we realized that there was much discord and the two older ladies charged with the task of arranging transportation seemed very flustered. They stumbled their way through their task and eventually we boarded a bus for the ship. Signing on: That task went smoothly and we finally got aboard. Our "mini-suite" was far from a suite. It was quite small, not completely clean and our bed was sagging from past guests. Our patio was super small. The best thing was the bathroom. It was large with a good sized shower. Cabin steward: He was like Batman. Although our room was cleaned on a daily basis, we rarely encountered him. I attempted to contact him several times (left messages) for ice in the room, etc. but my requests were never acknowledged. I suppose that is the marginal service you get when tips are included and not based upon service quality. When we did see him, his command of the English language was limited. Hotel crew: Most of the crew would occasionally flash a smile but none were too friendly. It was very different from our Celebrity cruises. Restaurant service: All of the food service was slow and it did not matter what restaurant we went to. Service was slow and the food was rarely "hot" when served. Bar service: We had the upgraded drink package but when it came to getting a drink, the service was s l o w. With a bunch of passengers aboard, many of the bars only had one bar tender. Sometimes two but even then there was a long wit for a drink. They always seemed short handed. The buffet: Wear shoulder pads, a helmet and prepare for some very rude, self-centered people. The passengers were acting like this was going to be their last meal and YOU are in the way. Our fellow passengers were very short on manners. Gift shop: My wife bought me a very nice watch and they assured her that their price was the rock bottom price for that watch. She was assured that if she found the watch for less they would refund the difference. Yeah...good luck with that refund. She found it for less and attempted to contact NCL for the refund. It is just about impossible to talk to anybody at NCL about the refund. They refer you to their website and then you are wrenched into never ending games. Let's just say that customer service is not one of their main concerns. Ports of call: Due to high winds we were not able to anchor off of Ocho Rios Jamaica. We stayed at sea. We were offered zero compensation for missing the port. Nickel-diming: The Getaway nickel-dimes you left and right. the initial cruise price seems cheaper but they jam it to you for every little thing. Unlike Celebrity, the NCL ship charges a fee for many things that are free on other ships. If you are thinking of booking a cruise, keep a couple of things in mind. The giant ships with 4000+ passengers (including kids) are very hectic. You will relax a whole lot more aboard a Celebrity ship like the Reflection because it is not crammed with people. The big ships do not have the level of service that the smaller ships offer. The crew on the smaller ships are a whole lot more friendly too. That was our first and last cruise on an NCL ship.

Brilliance of the Seas

Introduced in 2002, Brilliance of the Seas houses 2,543 passengers and 848 staff members. The ship's last major refurbishment was in 2013, but it received some Oasis-class updates in April 2018 (plus new furniture and fresh carpeting). The ship is big enough to offer an array of activities, yet small enough to pass through canals and offer more unique itineraries than larger ships in the fleet.

Brilliance of the Seas offers eight restaurants, including five specialty options. The ship also provides entertainment for the whole family, including poolside movies, a three-story theater, a rock climbing wall and a mini-golf course. While adults grab a cocktail at one of the bars, kids and teens can enjoy age-appropriate youth clubs.

As far as lodging goes, about 75% of the ship's cabins offer ocean views (and about half of those come with balconies). The most budget-friendly cabins are Interior staterooms (170 square feet). All include amenities like flat-screen TVs and minifridges.

Brilliance of the Seas departs from ports throughout North America and Australia for a variety of sailings around the world.

Norwegian Getaway

Introduced in 2014, the 3,963-passenger, 1,646-crew member Norwegian Getaway was recently renovated in 2020 to add a full-service Starbucks, a new live music venue and more. The ship further distinguishes itself from competitors with its quarter-mile-long "Waterfront" area that's lined with shops, bars and restaurants.

Getaway appeals to younger crowds thanks to a multistory water park and age-specific kids and teens clubs. Still, it appeals to couples as well with its romantic gourmet dining venues, such as the Ocean Blue specialty restaurant.

When it comes to lodging, solo travelers can take advantage of Studio cabins, while groups can opt for Inside, Oceanview, Balcony and Club Balcony Suite category cabins. If you’re looking for even more luxury, splurge on a cabin in The Haven, which offers access to a private sun deck and 24-hour butler service.

Getaway departs from Miami ,  New York City ,  Rome  and more for sailings in the Dominican Republic, Bermuda, the Caribbean and Europe. Norwegian Getaway completes transatlantic voyages as well.

Carnival Valor

The 2,980-passenger Carnival Valor features a mix of activities and amenities geared toward a variety of traveler types and age groups. Introduced in 2004 and most recently renovated in 2021, the ship offers all the “Fun Ship 2.0” features, including the BlueIguana Tequila Bar and the Cherry on Top candy shop. Plus, the ship houses a nightclub, a comedy club, the Alchemy Bar and more.

While the ship can hardly be considered small, Carnival Valor boasts an approximate 1-to-3 staff-to-guest ratio, and past cruisers compliment the service they received. As far as meals are concerned, the ship offers two main dining rooms, BlueIguana Cantina, Guy's Burger Joint, RedFrog Pub, a steakhouse and more. Cruisers will have a blast on the ship's 214-foot-long waterslide, and children will love Seuss at Sea.

In terms of lodging, cruisers can choose from Interior, Ocean View and Balcony cabins, as well as Suites. Higher category staterooms offer more space and amenities, such as VIP check-in and balconies with Jacuzzi tubs. Recent cruisers report the rooms were generally clean.

Carnival Liberty

Originally launched in 2005, Carnival Liberty carries 2,974 guests and 1,160 staff members. It received a minor refresh of its public spaces in 2021, along with other routine maintenance. This guest-to-crew ratio means the ship can provide a higher level of personalization than its megaship competitors. Liberty is equipped with all of the "Fun Ship 2.0" amenities, including popular dining venues like Guy's Burger Joint. Cruisers can also dine at several other restaurants and bars, including two main dining rooms, the Lido Buffet and a steakhouse.

When it comes to entertainment, the ship includes the Punchliner Comedy Club, the SkyBox Sports Bar and live stage shows. Children ages 2 to 17 can play at age-appropriate youth clubs while parents relax at the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat.

As far as lodging is concerned, Carnival Liberty offers a variety of stateroom categories, all of which come with flat-screen TVs and 24-hour room service. The modest Interior and Ocean View rooms are the most affordable options, but guests looking for more space should consider Balcony and Suite accommodations.

Carnival Liberty departs from Orlando  and New Orleans for sailings in the Bahamas , the Caribbean and the Panama Canal.

Norwegian Cruise Line Brings New Ships to New Orleans and Port Canaveral

Norwegian Cruise Line has announced they’ll be relocating two of their ships, Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Epic , this fall. Now departing from New Orleans and Port Canaveral (Orlando), these new voyages cater to the rising demand for warm-weather destinations among travelers. Guests can indulge in seven-day round-trip voyages to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, including visits to the cruise line’s private island destinations: Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas, and Harvest Caye in Belize.

Norwegian Getaway: A Tropical Journey from New Orleans

norwegian getaway

After a summer in the Mediterranean, Norwegian will reposition the Getaway to New Orleans starting October 20, 2024. This ship will replace the Norwegian Breakaway, which will relocate to Miami for the Fall and Winter. While it’s there, the Getaway will be the newest and largest ship sailing from New Orleans, almost a decade newer and 33% larger than competing cruise ships sailing from the port.

Norwegian Getaway, the second ship in the Breakaway-class, has 40 different restaurants, bars, and lounges. It features the popular Waterfront exterior promenade offering fantastic ocean views and outdoor dining experiences, a ropes course, two drop water slides, two pools, and four hot tubs.

Itineraries on the Getaway include stops at Harvest Caye, Belize; Roatan, Honduras; and Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico.

Norwegian Epic relocates to Port Canaveral (Orlando)

Norwegian will also reposition the Norwegian Epic to Port Canaveral, FL, starting on October 30, 2024. There, it will join a variety of other cruise ships of all ages and sizes in offering Caribbean itineraries. This ship will explore destinations like Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas; St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands; Tortola, British Virgin Islands; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman; Cozumel, Mexico; and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.

The Epic is a one-of-a-kind ship, being the only ship in its class. It has 19 bars and lounges, 15 complimentary and specialty restaurants, the Posh Beach Club adults-only area, a large aqua park for kids, two pools, and five hot tubs.

High demand for Caribbean cruises

Originally, these two ships were supposed to be sailing Mediterranean cruises during this time, but because of an increased demand for warm-weather sailings in the Caribbean, Norwegian decided to reposition them. “The Caribbean continues to be a hotspot for our guests worldwide, especially during the fall and winter seasons,” said David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line. “We are committed to providing our guests with the best vacation experience, and bringing two of our largest ships to sail picturesque, tropical cruises from New Orleans and Port Canaveral, Fla., was a no-brainer.”

Large pool

Guests on canceled sailings will receive full refund plus a 10% future cruise credit

Unfortunately, these changes mean thousands of guests will be impacted by the canceled sailings. For the Getaway, Norwegian has canceled seven cruises. Guests who were booked on these sailings have been notified already. Those guests will receive a full monetary refund for the full cost of the cruise, plus a 10% discount on a future cruise through December 31, 2024. Guests scheduled for the sailings on the Epic that will be canceled have not yet been notified at the time of this publication.

Bookings will open in February

The new sailings will open for booking in February. Guests can visit Norwegian Cruise Line’s website or contact a travel professional to secure their spot on these new sailings.

Cruise ship worker accused of attacking, stabbing people with scissors on board vessel

FILE -- The Norwegian Encore is docked at downtown Juneau, Alaska, on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022.

JUNEAU, Alaska ( KTUU /Gray News) - A South African citizen was arrested by the FBI in Juneau Tuesday after he allegedly stabbed a cruise ship passenger and several employees who attempted to stop him.

A press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Alaska said 35-year-old Ntando Sogoni was employed on the Norwegian Cruise Lines ship Encore and was observed by other staff attempting to launch one of the ship’s lifeboats. He was then taken by security to the ship’s medical facility for an evaluation.

In the medical center, Sogoni reportedly physically attacked a nurse and a security guard. He then allegedly entered an examination room, grabbed a pair of medical scissors and attacked a woman receiving treatment, stabbing her in the arms, hand and face. When two security guards intervened, the court documents allege he stabbed one in the head and one in the back.

Once he was under authority’s control, Sogoni was held in the ship’s jail before being taken into custody and being charged with assault with a deadly weapon in maritime and territorial jurisdiction. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A federal district judge will determine the total sentencing.

Court documents say that the employee had just joined the ship’s crew at its Seattle port of call on May 5. The incident occurred approximately 16.5 miles from Vancouver Island. There is no word on whether the incident has delayed the ship or on the condition of those hurt.

The FBI Anchorage Field Office and FBI Juneau Resident Agency, and the Coast Guard Investigative Service are investigating the case.

Luggage storage in New Orleans

By kdpatte , October 24, 2021 in Norwegian Cruise Line

Cool Cruiser

I just saw on NCL's FAQ's that they offer luggage storage post cruise for $25 for up to 4 bags and $5 for each additional bag.  And it also appears they take the luggage to the airport.  Assuming if it is still on their site it is still an option??  I know the Breakaway isn't in New Orleans yet but just wondering if anyone has done it lately in a different location.

Services are available to store your luggage at the following ports.

Please note that Miami, Boston and New York have no luggage storage available.

I am planning to use the New Orleans luggage delivery to airport next week. Where is you luggage delivered at the airport. Do you have to claim it and then check it in at the Southwest baggage checkin kiosk?

Not sure if your service will be the same....as this was a while ago.  But in Seattle - the bags were put outside of our cabin the night before but they were tagged with the appropriate flight info, etc.  We did not see them until baggage claim at our final destination.  So the service that we used was not the one that goes from door to door......

Magsthecapp

We used this service pre-covid and it worked great. We disembarked through the normal process and then they had a representative on the way out of the terminal. I believe we retrieved them in the airport, where we then checked them for our flight.

Derek Sutton

We did this but it was back in 2018, who knows what has since changed.  After customs etc there was a place to leave your bag and they transfered them to the airport.  They give you the information for pick up at the airport.  There was an space in the baggage claim area to pick them up.  It worked out good for us as we had about 8 hours or so before we had to go to the airport.  I don't remeber if this was done by NCL or was an independent company that took care of us.

Thank you all. I tried to get details from NCL but they were vague to say the least. They said ask onboard.

are you touring new orleans for the day?

or having breakfast and/or lunch in town before heading to the airport?

if so, there's a marriott within walking distance of the pier. (in fact, that's where NCL did covid testing after the restart.) it's maybe a half a mile... about a ten minute walk for most people without mobility issues.

consider taking your bags there, checking them with a bellman and then picking them up later in the day as you get a taxi or car service to the airport. if they refuse you (and if you're tipping both at drop off and pick up, i doubt they would), then go to the nearby hitlon, loew's or harrah's hotel and check your bags there.

A quick Google search led me to Bounce, which is a luggage storage company throughout the US. We used their services in NYC after getting off the Prima TA  and they have multiple locations in NOLA. You can book either online or through the app...typically $5-6 a bag and you do have to pre-pay. Our location was a souvenir store a few blocks from the port...they put the bags in a store room in the back and gave us claim tickets. Would use this company again.

kohanfam

We are using dayuse.com and booked Westin zFrench Quarter from 10 to 6 for under $100.   Our flight is at 7:30.  We will have lunch somewhere and relax in a room.

Carnival Cruise Lines celebrates 30 years of sailing from NOLA with new ship

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE)—For a generation, Carnival cruise ships have set sail out of New Orleans. On Monday (May 6), a new boat joined the fleet.

“It’s beautiful,” said Gabbi Arcement. “We’ve been on the Valor before, which is the sister ship. So, it’s a very similar build, and I’m excited.”

The Carnival Liberty will call the Port of New Orleans home, sailing year-round to the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal.

“She’ll be 6-to-8-day cruises, typically,” said Carnival’s Chris Chiames. “This week, she’s going to the Caribbean and Cozumel, but she’ll do a variety of Caribbean cruises out of here on a weekly basis.”

The ship was built in 2005 but is new to NOLA.

Carnival carries an estimated 400,000 passengers from New Orleans every year. A 2023 Port NOLA study found the cruise industry generates more than 300,000 hotel room nights and more than $125 million spent around town.

Most of the guests we talked to did not have to travel far to get on board.

“You just pull up and you’re gone for seven days,” said one eager passenger.

Celebrating this generation of Carnival Cruise vacations from New Orleans comes a new investment in the next generation: Carnival is investing in the Emeril Lagassee Foundation and even inviting culinary students to tour the ship.

“Emeril has been with Carnival for about four years. He’s been the Chief Culinary Officer for two years now,” said Chiames. “We had supported the foundation previously, but for our 30th anniversary, we’re having a celebration on board today and making a donation to the foundation as well to celebrate and share in our success.”
