From awesome mountains to buzzing Monterrey nightlife, white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, our Mexico tours have a lot to offer. It’s hard to pack everything into one trip, so here are our top recommendations.

Museo Soumaya

Welcome to Mexico City’s most-visited attraction, tucked inside the extraordinary Plaza Carso. Be prepared to get fascinated by the well over 60,000 works of international art.

Museo Frida Kahlo

For more information visit Museo Frida Kahlo .

Museo Dolores Olmedo

Another must-visit art museum is Dolores Olmedo’s home in Xochimilco. From oil paintings, to sculpture and even crockery – you know where to go in Mexico City for an authentic flavor of the country’s creativity.

National Museum of Anthropology

Even among the surplus of tourist attractions in Mexico City, this museum stands out. It is dedicated to Mexico’s pre-Columbian Mayan and Aztec heritage, with exhibits that tell the full story of these highly civilised ancient cultures.

For further details visit National Museum of Anthropology

MUSA Underwater Museum, Cancun

A museum four metres under the sea off the glistening Cancun coast? That’s right. You’ll find 500 sculptures that are slowly evolving into a beautiful artificial reef. Slightly eerie, but unbelievably beautiful.

For further details visit MUSA Underwater Museum

Top 5 Museums & Galleries in Mexico

With such a colorful and culturally dynamic history, Mexico is chock full of heritage centers and museums. We think these are the best of a great bunch.

Day of the Dead

The legendary Día de Muertos celebration is a spectacularly colorful festival (that’s consistently voted the best festival in the world). Fiestas are held countrywide, but if you want a memorable night out in Mexico City, the capital’s Day of the Dead celebration is the Big Kahuna.

For more information visit Day of the Dead

El Grito de Independencia

16th September sees the entire country down tools amid ceremonial celebrations to mark Independence Day. It’s a cacophony of traditional Mexican food, music and fireworks to celebrate the beginnings of Mexico as we know it today.

Top 5 Festivals in Mexico

Boy, do these guys know how to celebrate. Dozens of religious and public holidays offer plenty of fiesta opportunities, and there’s a healthy contemporary arts scene too. We hope you’re ready to party… better pack that Alka Seltzer.

Tacos Arabes

You’ve heard of tacos. But what about ‘Arab tacos’? That’s what you get at the food markets of Mexico. Flour tortillas stuffed with spiced rotisserie meat, like a kebab, and zinged up with lime juice and salsa. Delicious.

Best eaten at Las Ranas, 2 Poniente # 102, Puebla

Chilaquiles

Strips, not chips. Chilaquiles are similar to nachos, and are made with strips of corn tortilla. Meats add even more flavour to the delicious salsa, cheese, and sour cream combo. A proper favourite food in Mexico.

Best eaten at Eno, Francisco Petrarca 258, Esq. Horacio | Polanco, Mexico City

This traditional Mexican stew made from hominy corn is prepared in a variety of ways. Meat (mostly chicken) is the usual ingredient but meat-free versions are widely available for the veggie-lovers in town.

Best eaten at El Pozole de Moctezuma, Moctezuma 12-E, Colonia Guerrero, Mexico City

The essential in Mexico street food, or just Mexican cuisine in general. This is corn on the cob like you’ve never had it before. It’s the perfect snack during your Mexico travel mission.

Best eaten at You’ll find stalls and vendors all over Mexico – this is food on the go.

No better way to satisfy your sweet tooth than a few of these delectable fried dough treats. Eat on their own as a dessert with melted chocolate, or dip one in your morning coffee for a satisfying pick-me-up. It’s not a want, it’s a need!

Best eaten at El Moro, Eje Central Lazaro Cardenas 42, Mexico City

Food in Mexico

Mexico food is celebrated across the globe, but there’s nothing better than eating the real deal. Coming up with a list of the top five dishes to sample while enjoying your Mexico travel is a tricky call. But we’ve done it, along with a few of our favourite restaurants in Mexico.

Frequently asked questions about mexico.

Your search for ""

When is the best time to visit Mexico?

Mexico is brimming with the fiery fiesta almost all throughout the year. But between December and April is the perfect time to visit Mexico. You can skip the sweltering heat and the torrential rain. Who doesn’t love bright blue clear skies after all?

How many days do I need for Mexico?

Ideally, between 7-15 days is perfect to explore the ins and outs of Mexico. (That’s exactly how long our Mexico trips are). But really, are any number of days enough? The lingering taste of tacos and tranquil beaches will always leave you hungry for more.

Do I need a visa to travel to Mexico?

This will depend on your citizenship. If you’re a US, UK, Australian, or New Zealand citizen, you’re generally allowed to travel to Mexico without a visa. Don’t forget to check your visa requirements before flying!

What should I pack for a trip to Mexico?

No matter when you’re traveling to Mexico, it’s usually sizzling and sunny. So don’t forget to pack these essentials for your Mexico trip.

  • Walking shoes
  • Bathing suit
  • Quick-dry towel
  • Loose clothing
  • Beach sandals

Do I need cash or can I use my credit card?

It’s best to get both! Your credit card should work perfectly well in all the big cities and tourist hotspots, cash might come in handy when visiting the slightly more rural areas.

What is the currency used in Mexico?

The local currency (that can get you a taste of those feisty tacos) is the Peso ($).

What is the tipping etiquette in Mexico?

It’s not mandatory, but tipping is generally accepted here. So, if you really liked the food (which you will, you’re in Mexico after all) or the service, you can tip 15% of your bill.

What is ATM access like in Mexico?

ATMs tend to be easily accessible in Mexico. Credit cards aren’t always accepted in stores and restaurants, so remember to get some cash with you!

Is tap water safe to drink in Mexico?

We recommend you don't drink tap water (even in hotels) because of the high mineral density. Don’t worry, though. We ain’t leaving you thirsty. Your Trip Manager will advise you on where to fill your water bottle with safe drinking water.

9 Great Alternatives To Contiki You Should Totally Check Out (Updated May, 2024 🎉)

  • Contiki has a strict 18-35 age policy. No exceptions!
  • Exciting new companies are joining the market, offering fantastic alternatives to Contiki.
  • Operators like G Adventures cater to the eco-conscious traveller, keen on positively impacting their destinations.
  • One Life Adventures and TruTravels specialise in single destinations, like Asia or Latin America, for a focused experience.

When it comes to youth travel, Contiki has long been a name, synonymous with fun, adventure, and unforgettable experiences. But what if you’re looking for something a bit different? Luckily, the world of youth travel is vast and varied. Let’s dive into some fantastic alternatives to Contiki that offer unique experiences for young adult travellers.

Introduction

Skip reading and go straight to the list

Contiki Tours, a favourite among under 35s and young professionals, delivers thrilling and socially vibrant adventures. But, it’s worth noting that Contiki enforces a strict 18-35 age policy , so if you’re keen on a group tour with a mix of ages over 35, you’ll need to consider other operators. While Contiki’s offerings are exciting, they might not be everyone’s cup of tea, especially if you’re after a journey that delves deeper into local authenticity or prefers a more relaxed pace and varied itinerary.
