Get your Qatari Smart ID (E-Gate enabled ID card)

Get your Qatari Smart ID (E-Gate enabled ID card)

The E-Gate system (Smart ID) allows air passengers and officials to enter and exit the country with ease. Holders of the E-Gate Card may bypass the immigration formalities at the Doha International Airport by punching their cards at the gate and pressing their index fingers on an electronic scanner.

Qatari citizens and residents, as well as GCC nationals who are interested in obtaining an E-Gate card should visit the immigration department in Madinat Khalifa.

Application Process

Follow these steps to apply:

  • Visit the office for E-Gate Cards.
  • Show your ID or GCC passport.
  • Pay appropriate fees.
  • One year: QR200
  • Two years: QR250
  • Three years: QR300

Go to the immigration department Gate 2 in Madinat Khalifa with your ID card (Residency card)

Have your photo taken at a booth, and fingerprint both your hands. (Immigration staff will assist you)

Get in line to get a token number and wait for it to be called.

When you're called, go to the counter. Tell them you did your fingerprinting on the system and request for the Smart ID for one or two or three years. You can pay for the E-Gate card/Smart ID for up to 3 years.

Immigration will then swap your Residency ID for a chipped ID card (as shown in photo). With this E-Card you should be able to skip immigration and passport control and use the e-Gate, as long as you have your exit permit.

Photo is just for illustrative purposes

After paying and collecting the newly chipped Qatar ID from the counter, is that all? Or do we need to activate the card?

papy

E-gate is possible for the employees of embassy?

gjsantillan

Is the e gate card can immediately be released on same day? Or it will also be sent thru courier?

Where in Doha should I apply for it?

zaq08

Yeah, you guys all shall make this e-card, so all of you will use the e-gate then the immigration booth will be less crowded or maybe no queue at all in serving me & my family... gotcha... ;-D

Elegy

single person OK but what about families need to make for all or only the sponsor of a family will do...???

dmkushe

I got my E-Gate card in Al-Khor Ministry Services last month. Saves stamps on the passport and the hassel of waiting for long time in queues, which once I had to wait for 45 minutes, wheras as now I come out of Immigration or go in during departure in less than a minute...

samun

So now it looks they are in serious need of money, actually this smart card should be normal ID card. So all smart guys form big queue at Immigration while leaving...

mohdata

Josephkkm: People like you deserve to be deprived of any sort of convenience...you're paying for not standing in a queue at immigration...if you could for a moment not be a selfish plonker, you could even look at it as the system taking away peoples employment since there would be less immigration staff needed...but no, its all about you, you and you...

josephkkm

Why we need to pay extra we reduce the job of the Emigration staff, so it should be issued free for all.

muhaisma

It should be the same way for Medical card too...

alienx9

Hi will this egate provide visa?

whickersworld

No you cannot do the retina and fingerprint scan in the afternoon. You can only do it in the morning! It opens from 3pm in the afternoon.

shummy_f1

can you do the e-gate in the afternoon at khalifa?

nilamqatar

3 month business visa holder can get this please let me know

Mr.S

no sponsor letter is required and is for all residents in Qatar anyone can apply i just had mine done today

you just follow the instructions above. one update is that it is done only in gate 2 as far as i know and costs as mentioned above

You can get an ID card for your children with valid RP from any Immigration office and then swap it for the smart card or you could also just try and go to the smart ID place directly and ask if you can do it skipping the obtaining of a normal ID card will save you the trouble and money

time_to_move_on

All relevant info available here. As for children, I believe (not sure) that those with an e-gate card can get the children's passports stamped at the e-gate itself as long as they have a valid e-gate card. Hope this helps.

jojoqtr

Not for all nationalities.

I am Qataria and I will say that It is not a good idea. It will be disposed soon because it will be congested like traffic in Doha. Worst.

Not worth it.

khun salah

Is this for Qatari citizens and residents, as well as GCC nationals only? its not clear in the article, besides the pix on the ID looks does not look like a local of GCC national to me.

ashworld

How does it work for children. There is no ID card only RP Sticker on Passport

I heard the egate card department in departures was closed ? is the info up to date ? and what about how long it takes for the smart card to be ready ? and i heard there was an iris scanner too ?

Dr-Sam

anybody knows the duty time of the office for e-Gate Cards in the airport departure terminal, or the duty time and location of the immigration department in Madinat Khalifa ?

adil parvez

is this facility is also for expats ?

ubus

No traditional stamping will be there on your Passport. Immigration records will be updated automatically at your destination country. I am using egate service since 2011 and nobody stopped me entering India or other places. One should have a valid exit permit to leave Qatar, that's all...

amdmustafa

What about traditional stamping in passport? Immigration officers in other countries especially in India, use to check the stamp for exact date of travel and other inquiries.

An error occurred while booking a ticket on myIDTravel

Chances are that you need myIDTravel to  book your staff travel tickets . It is an online portal created by Lufthansa Systems for airline employees to book their non-rev tickets.

You are visiting the StaffTraveler website

You might have found this page on Google while searching for myIDTravel. StaffTraveler is an app to get reliable flight loads for your non-rev flights. We are not associated with myIDTravel.

How to cancel & refund a myIDTravel ticket?

Refunding a myIDTravel ticket involves two steps:

  • Find your ticket
  • Refund the ticket

1. Find your ticket ticket

To initiate a refund, the easiest way is to access the ticket via  Your flight list . You can also click on the  Manage Bookings & Tickets  button and enter your e-ticket number.

2. Refund the ticket

Click the  Refund  button. The details of your ticket will be shown. Click  Refund now  to initiate the refund.

  • Refunds may be processed on any e-ticket with an  open  status, issued less than 365 days ago (this period may differ per airline).
  • Partially used tickets and segments flown out of sequence may need to be refunded manually, which may take some time.
  • It may take 4 weeks or longer for the refund to be processed. Fares and taxes for unused segments will be refunded by the ticketing airline to the credit card used during the listing process. You may not receive an confirmation by email.
  • Refunds will not be issued for the mylDTravel fee for used portions of any ticket.

MyIDTravel support is notoriously hard to get in contact with. If you face any problems with:

For other inquiries, you can contact myIDTravel using a form on  their website . You'll find a link to their contact form on the bottom of the page.

StaffTraveler is not in any way associated with myIDTravel.

When checking the flight loads in myIDTravel, you are presented a variety of fare codes. These letters represent a category of airline tickets available for purchase. The corresponding number is a rough indication of the number of available tickets for sale. These numbers might be out-of-date and are capped to 7 or 9 (depending on the operating airline). Also, the sum of the numbers does not equal the total number of available seats. Lastly, most airlines overbook flights, so these numbers do not represent how many seats are actually available to non-rev on.

  • Business/first class: A, C, D, F, I, J
  • Premium economy class: W
  • Economy class: B, E, Y, X

Accurate and up-to-date load information can be obtained in the StaffTraveler app.

MYIDTRAVEL ERROR

The same itinerary has already been booked for a passenger with this name. please change itinerary data..

When you get this error, something has gone wrong with your booking. Most likely, the payment has failed. Your tickets are held for about half an hour, during which you cannot make a new booking for the same itinerary.

Wait 30 minutes and try again.

If you cannot access an unused PNR, it has either been cancelled previously or purged from the airline’s reservation system and is no longer available.

Access your e-ticket via the  Your flight list  to relist or refund.

myIDTravel is known to have reliability issues. If you're having trouble booking tickets on myIDTravel, it's worth trying again the next day. We advice anticipating errors and book your tickets in advance.

Qatar ID Renewal: 3 Easy Ways To Renew QID (2024)

Doha Guides Team regularly reviews this article to ensure the content is up-to-date and accurate. The last editorial review and update were on 05 February 2024.

If you are someone living long-term in Qatar, you should have your own Qatar ID card. It’s the most important official identification document that you need for various purposes.

However, like many official documents, it needs to be renewed periodically. Whether you’re an expatriate living in Qatar or a Qatari citizen, renewing your MOI Qatar ID Card (Iqama) is essential.

In this article, we will delve into the details of Qatar ID renewal . We will explore three convenient methods for QID renewal and answer all your questions, such as QID renewal fees, the time required, and how to check renewal status.

What Is A Qatar ID Card?

Who can apply for a qatar id, qatar id renewal new rules 2023, grace period for qatar id renewal, who can renew qatar id, how to check qatar id validity, how to renew qatar id (online and offline), collecting qatar id after renewal, qatar id renewal fees, how to track qid renewal status, automatic residence permit renewal, can i travel to qatar without a qatar id card, frequently asked questions.

A Qatar ID is a national identity card issued by the Qatar Government to its citizens and expatriate residents. A Qatar ID card, also called the Residence Permit , is issued by Qatar’s Ministry of Interior. It is required for various official transactions such as obtaining a driving license , health card, and more.

The MOI Qatar ID card features the cardholder’s photo, name, Qatar ID number, birthdate, nationality, signature, and sponsor information. If you want to learn more, please refer to our detailed guide on Qatar ID .

If you are an expatriate resident in Qatar, you will be a part of the sponsorship system . This means that you will either be sponsored by your employer or by an eligible family member, usually a spouse or parent.

Due to Qatar’s sponsorship system, an expatriate is not eligible to apply for Qatar ID on his own. Only the sponsor can apply for an expatriate’s Qatar ID card .

Following are some of the important rules you need to know about your Qatar ID:

  • A Qatar ID card can only be renewed when the cardholder is inside Qatar .
  • If your Qatar ID has expired, you will not be allowed to travel to Qatar. Therefore, it is essential to check your QID validity before traveling . If you anticipate that you may not return before its expiry, make sure to renew it before leaving Qatar.
  • You can view an image of your Qatar ID on your Metrash mobile app using the e-wallet feature.
  • You have a 90-day (three-month) grace period to renew your Qatar ID after it expires.
  • After this 90-day period, there is a penalty (fine) of QR 10 per day.
  • The maximum ceiling of this penalty is QR 6,000.
  • It is the responsibility of the sponsor to ensure that their dependents’ QIDs remain valid.

As explained earlier, Qatar’s sponsorship system mandates that only the sponsor has the right to apply, renew, or cancel the Qatar ID. This means that a Qatar resident cannot renew their Qatar ID on their own .

  • If you are on a family visa , only your family sponsor (spouse or parent) can renew your QID.
  • If you are on an employment visa, your QID can only be renewed by your employer or the employer’s authorized representative (PRO).

The expiry date of your Qatar ID card will be printed on the card itself. You can see this on the front side of the card (as shown in the below image).

Sample Qatar ID card showing expiry date

Alternatively, you can check the validity of your Qatar ID card on the Ministry of Interior’s online portal .

Here, you can either enter your QID number or passport number along with your nationality to view your QID status. Please refer to our article for a detailed step-by-step guide on MOI Qatar ID validity check .

Check Qatar ID status on MOI portal

If your Qatar ID is approaching its expiry date, you can remind your sponsor to renew it.

A sponsor can renew their dependent’s Qatar ID through online or offline methods . The easiest method is through the Metrash mobile app . Let’s discuss that first:

1. How To Renew Qatar ID Online Through Metrash

Follow the steps below to renew your dependent’s Qatar ID online using the Metrash mobile app:

  • Log in to your Metrash account on your phone.
  • Select “Residency Services.”
  • Click on “Renew Residency.”

Qatar ID renewal on Metrash mobile app

  • Select either Personal or Company Residency Renewal. For the renewal of a family member’s QID, you have to select Personal. For the renewal of an employee whom you have sponsored, select Company Residency Renewal.
  • Select the QID number to be renewed.
  • Choose the renewal period (number of years).
  • Select the delivery option for the new QID. You can either collect it directly from the MOI Service Center or have it delivered by Q-Post, which will cost you QR 20 extra.
  • If you are selecting Q-Post, fill in the address and confirm.
  • Pay the renewal fee using a debit or credit card.

2. How To Renew Qatar ID Online Through MOI Website

If you have access to the Ministry of Interior’s e-services portal (using a smart card), you can renew your dependent’s QID as follows:

  • Log in to the MOI e-services portal using your smart card.

Qatar ID renewal through MOI website

  • Select either Personal or Company Residency Renewal.
  • Select the delivery option.

3. How To Renew Qatar ID Through MOI Service Center

To renew Qatar ID directly at any MOI Service Center (Unified Service Center), follow these steps:

  • Download the Residency Renewal application form from the MOI website.
  • Fill out the form in Arabic (you can get this done at a typing center).
  • Sponsor has to visit any MOI Service Center (We suggest not to visit the Main Immigration as it would be busy).
  • Submit the form along with a copy of your (sponsor) QID.
  • If you are representing a business and renewing your employee’s QID, you must submit a copy of your Establishment ID.

During renewal, the sponsor can select the mode of delivery. If you choose Q-Post delivery, it will be delivered to the given address within a few days, usually less than a week.

If you select collection at the MOI Service Center, you can visit any MOI Service Center and request printing. You don’t have to fill out any form or pay any fee if you have already renewed it online. In this case, you can get the QID printed within minutes.

If you need your QID urgently (for example, for travel) it is better to select collection at the MOI Service Center.

The following are the fees for renewing Qatar ID cards:

For personal sponsorship, there is a 20% discount if renewing for three years. If you are opting for Q-Post delivery, there will be an additional fee of QR 20.

In normal cases, the QID will be instantly renewed. The printing and delivery may take a few days, usually less than a week. You can track the status of the QID renewal on this link :

Qatar ID Renewal Tracking

Metrash offers a subscription service for companies that allows for the automatic renewal of employees’ residence permits. The automated residence permit renewal, called “ Residency Subscription ,” helps save time and effort for company representatives and can avoid fines for delays in renewal.

Once subscribed to this service, the system will automatically notify the list of individuals whose residence permits need to be renewed soon. It also allows for the removal or exemption of anyone who has terminated their job in the company or for any other reason.

The legal solution is that your sponsor apples for a re-entry permit and sends it to you. For detailed information please refer to our comprehensive guide on what to do if QID is lost .

However sometimes you will be allowed to board even without a return permit. During check-in the airline staff can check the validity of your Qatar ID on the MOI website. You can also try to convince them by showing the Qatar ID image available in your Metrash app (e-wallet option). However there is no guarantee that airline will allow you to travel based on this.

Some airlines are very strict about this, while Qatar authorities are often more relaxed in such cases, as they can easily verify the status in their system.

It is advisable to always keep copies of your Qatar ID with you, especially during travel.

Can I renew my Qatar ID in Qatar?

Expatriate residents in Qatar cannot renew their own Qatar ID cards. The card can only be renewed by their sponsor. In the case of an employment visa, this will be the employer or an authorized representative.

Can I renew my QID with an expired passport?

No, your passport should be valid for at least 6 months before your Qatar ID can be renewed. If your passport validity is less than 6 months, get your passport renewed through your country’s Embassy in Qatar.

How early can a QID be renewed?

A Qatar ID can be renewed up to three months before its expiry. However, employers usually wait until closer to the expiry date.

How many years can a Qatar ID be renewed for?

If you are renewing a Qatar ID online, you have the option to renew it for either 1, 2, or 3 years.

How many days it will take to renew Qatar ID?

Qatar ID can be instantly renewed online. However, if you are opting for Q-Post delivery, it may take 3-5 working days to receive the new card. If you opt for collection at the MOI Service Center, you can get it printed immediately.

Can residents come back to Qatar with an expired Qatar ID?

No, even if you were a Qatar resident earlier, you will not be allowed to enter with an expired QID.
