One of the measures of gambling control in LA are taxations. The Riverboats, for example, are subject of 21.5% state tax over the Adjusted Gross Revenue. All slot machines in any Racino are subject to 18% of AGR and then once more after the initial supplement with the state gaming tax of 18.5%. Land-based casinos can pay up to $60 million or 21.5% of GGR (gross gaming revenue) annually.

Louisiana Gambling Laws

1753-1866 In 1753 the Governor Louis Billouart de Kerrlerec opened the first government-run casino. In 1812 New Orleans, Louisiana Exempted from Federal gambling ban. In 1866 the Louisiana State Lottery was established but later in 1895, it was closed by Governor Murthy Foster because of many malicious and illegal activities.

1920-1991 In 1920 the only legal gambling form in Louisiana was the pari-mutuel betting on horse racing. 1991 was a revolutionary year for the gambling in Louisiana. The new State Lottery becomes legal, 14 riverboat casinos and the first land-based one were approved too.

1993-2013 In 1993 three Native American tribes successfully negotiated the opening of casinos on their lands. In 1997 the Racino type casinos were permitted to operate with slot machines. In 2013 the Internet gambling committee was established.

The riverboat casinos will be able to apply to move their business on land but within 1,200 feet from their current location. A new rule was applied for the Race tracks with slot machines, larger machines are allowed, also the video poker restriction was waived.

The casino will send its own bus to pick up visitors from anywhere in the Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi or Oklahoma areas. The Kerrville Bus Co. offers day trips and overnight stays to the Coushatta Casino from San Antonio and Austin, Texas. The bus tours run Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday each week.
