Most islands of the Caribbean possess a subtropical climate, with both wet and less wet seasons. During the wetter season—generally July to December—rainfall will vary from one island to another, depending on elevation, size and water currents. Common ports like the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, Puerto Rico, St. Martin and Jamaica typically feature subtropical and tropical climates in which warm trade winds from the east and northeast bring occasional rainfall, with precipitation heaviest from May through October.

Packing Checklist

• Casual clothes including pants, jeans, shorts, T-shirts, collared shirts or blouses

• Semi-formal clothes or dress clothes for 1-2 evenings, depending on the length of your cruise

Dining Dress Code

Depending on the cruise line, there will be one to two nights of dressing up for dinner or other special events. We suggest a semi-formal dress or skirt and blouse for women and a dark suit for men. The remaining dinners on the cruise are informal—blouse and pants for women; and collared shirt with trousers for men. Remember that T-shirts, shorts or tank tops are not permitted in the dining room.

Packing Tips

Make certain your suitcase closes and fastens securely. Mark your luggage and carry-on bag with your name and address so you can distinguish them easily. We also recommend you put identification information—name, address and phone number—INSIDE your luggage in case the luggage tags are lost in transit. We also suggest keeping your essential toiletries and a one-day change of clothes in your carry-on. Do not pack your passport or travel documents in your luggage. It is suggested that you keep a color copy of the information page of your passport inside your luggage if your passport is lost.

Every cruise ship has plugs that accept U.S. and Continental European devices, and you do not need to bring plug adaptors. Here are some things to know about your electronics before you pack them:

Phones, MP3 Players, Laptops, Cameras & Video Cameras

Most small digital devices have chargers that will fit in the plugs on a cruise ship. One thing to be mindful of is the limited plugs in each cabin; you may want to bring a multi-plug extension cord.

Blow Dryers, Curling Irons & Straighteners

Each stateroom has a hair dryer for your personal convenience. If you prefer your hair appliances, you may want to consider purchasing or borrowing compact and travel-friendly appliances.

The scenic beauty of Caribbean can be enjoyed from onboard the ship and to make the most of your cruise vacation, you can also get out into the local ports. Shore excursions offer something for everyone. Choose from city tours, culinary explorations, shopping outings, cultural activities and more.

Because shore excursions have limited capacity and fill up quickly, we recommend you book early for the best selection on your cruise. Once you’ve booked your Inspiration cruise, check out the customized cruise line excursion list based on your itinerary. Using your cruise booking number, you can easily book shore excursions online as early as 60 days before your trip and up to 3 days before departure, depending on the cruise line.

Remember that you always have the option of arriving earlier or staying later. For example, hotel reservations may be available if you want to arrive a few days early before boarding your cruise or stay a few days after the cruise returns.

As you plan for your upcoming Christian cruise with Inspiration, you may wonder about using money and credit cards during your travels. We’ve made the following recommendations to help you save money, avoid unnecessary fees and focus on an exceptional travel experience.

• Consider leaving all unnecessary credit cards at home.
• Once you determine which cards you’ll bring, remember to notify each credit card company of your intended travel dates and locations to ensure fraud alerts and holds are not placed on your accounts.
• For each card, you’ll want to store the bank’s contact information in a separate, secure location in the unlikely event your wallet or purse is lost or stolen.

Almost all Caribbean destinations accept U.S. credit or debit cards. If you plan to use your credit cards, you’ll want to check with each credit card company to determine the international exchange fee for each card. Because the difference of a few percentage points could cost you more (depending on your purchases), we recommend using cards with lower international exchange fees. Using your credit card for large purchases gives you more protection for the items you buy on your trip. You can review your credit card statement to verify all of your purchases.

The Bahamian dollar equals the U.S. dollar, and both are accepted interchangeably throughout the islands. The U.S. dollar is the official currency of Turks and Caicos, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The U.S. dollar is widely accepted in the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Belize, Honduras and St. Maarten. If traveling with currency other than the U.S. dollar you may exchange money on board the ship, although we always recommend checking the exchange rate before traveling to a foreign country.

Today’s technology allows you to stay connected while traveling—ensuring you get that memorable photo or message from your loved ones. On most ships, you should be able to use your cell phone or smartphone to do everything you’re used to doing at home. In addition, mobile phones provide convenient access for emergencies and confirming travel plans. Some basic guidelines and tips will help you save money, keep your phone working effectively and stay in touch.

Before you leave

Spending some time contacting your cell phone carrier before your trip will help ensure you can call friends and family back home and eliminate any surprises on your phone bill when you return. Let your phone carrier know your travel plans, including how you plan to use your phone on your cruise. You’ll want to make sure you understand all of the potential charges. Contact your carrier for specific information.

Check with your carrier for international dialing access

You will want to make sure international and cruise package dialing is active on your mobile phone plan so that you can use it in Caribbean ports, and remember that international and maritime roaming rates will apply to calls placed onboard the ship (charges will appear on your phone bill). Because roaming rates can be high on cruises, checking with your carrier for specific cost details before you leave is a good idea.

Aboard your flight and cruise

Your cell phone’s battery life is the key to keeping you connected. Below are some tips for staying powered up on your trip:

• Remember to set your phone to Airplane Mode when you board your flight. You can also do this aboard the cruise when sailing to avoid roaming charges unless you have the cruise ship package with your carrier. This suspends all calling and texting functions but still allows you to play games, use your camera and listen to music, etc.
• On the cruise, you’ll want to charge your phone every night to ensure enough battery life for the next day.
• Try to turn off your phone when you’re not using it. Leaving your phone on all day drains the battery, so it’s a good idea to turn it off while you’re on a shore excursion, eating or reading.

Smartphone tips

As one of the most popular communication devices today, smartphones have revolutionized how we connect and the world. We know leaving your smartphone behind for an hour, much less multiple days is difficult. The following tips will help you save your phone’s battery life and get the most out of your smartphone while on the cruise:

• Before your cruise, you’ll want to disable any applications that give you regular updates, such as sports reports and weather updates.
• Disable the Data Enabled or Data Roaming option on your phone and keep it off until you reach your destination. Turn off the function for “Automatic” checking of emails and change the email settings to “Manual” to reduce data roaming charges. During your trip, you can check for email messages when connected to a free, wireless Internet connection, such as in a hotel lobby or Internet cafe while in port.

In-room phones and phone cards

If you choose to not bring your mobile phone, you can stay in touch with others while on your cruise using the in-room phones. Please make sure you understand all of the charges associated with this before you place your call, as the rates can be expensive.

Your cruise vacation allows you to travel without the hassle of checking in and out of hotels, packing and unpacking, and spending valuable time trying to find quality restaurants–all with excellent service dedicated to enhancing your exceptional travel experience.

Each cruise line makes rewarding the excellent service you’ll receive onboard easy. A gratuity of $16-$19 per day (depending on the cruise line and cabin category), per guest for dining and stateroom services will be automatically added daily to your shipboard account. The cruise line also will automatically add an 18% service charge to beverages purchased through your onboard account. Before the end of the cruise, the Cruise Director will address more specific questions regarding tipping procedures.

If you take a taxi to the pier, it’s common to simply round up to the next dollar when paying your tab. The cab drivers appreciate this, and it is considered part of their income. When you arrive at the ship on embarkation day, we suggest tipping the porters at the pier $1.25 per bag when they take your luggage to place it on the ship.

A 15-20% tip for restaurant service workers is appreciated when visiting restaurants off the ship and during shore excursions.

Depending on your itinerary, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to explore the cities, beaches and attractions of each island on your route. Most ports will have shopping districts within an easily walkable distance from the cruise ship. You’ll also want to spend time in the sun since the Caribbean is home to some of the best beaches in the world. Other adventurous activities, from snorkeling to rainforest ziplining, are available at many ports.

Tana Ramsay recalls time apart from husband Gordon that led to 'tricky' moment

Tana made the candid confession during a recent podcast appearance.

Tana Ramsay has shared a candid glimpse inside her private life and her marriage to celebrity chef, Gordon .

During an appearance on the Postcards From Midlife podcast, the mother-of-six recalled a "tricky" moment in their marriage after they'd been forced to spend time apart due to Gordon's work commitments.

"I'll tell you what's interesting, whenever he has been away, the first few days of him being back is really hard and we always have an argument," Tana shared.

"And it's usually because he has to slot back in. He'll sort of say to me, 'Am I even in this family? Because you know you've just done this that and the other, and you didn't even ask'."

She continued: "I'm like, 'Well because I'm not used to asking, I don't need to ask you to do it, because you're not usually [here], you haven't been here for two weeks'. So that's quite tricky."

Elsewhere on the podcast, the 49-year-old revealed that Gordon has been at home more since lockdown, a shift which she's been relishing.

"Having him around so much more, it does make it really lovely and I think that being older, both of us value those moments," she explained, before later adding: "Everything feels calmer… There's more of a respect for each other."

Gordon, 57, has been married to Tana since 1996. Together they share six children: Megan, 25, twins Holly and Jack, 24, Matilda, 22, Oscar, four, and newest addition, Jesse.

They kept details of their latest pregnancy under wraps, with Tana announcing Jesse's arrival in a sweet Instagram post back in November 2023.

Sharing their joyous baby news with the world, Tana wrote: "It's been a nerve-wracking 9 months but we've made it and we have been blessed with this little bundle. Ramsay family definitely complete. Jesse James Ramsay we love you so much."

Gordon also revelled in the exciting news, writing on Instagram: " What an amazing birthday present please welcome Jesse James Ramsay, 7lbs 10oz whopper. One more bundle of love to the Ramsay brigade!! 3 boys, 3 girls…. Done."

During an interview with People, Gordon reiterated that they have no plans to expand their family.

The star explained: "This morning, Oscar said, 'Wouldn't it be nice if Jesse and I had a little sister?' And I spat my Cheerios out. So yeah, I had to get up from the table and walk away."

Ramsays of Aberdeen

Visited a couple Sundays ago. Good holiday options at okay prices but got cheaper online myself. Shop and staff are not professional looking. Very tired shop and staff all wearing casual clothes like leggings jumpers and joggers not what you want to see in my opinion.

If you are driving to your cruise, then take the A90 to Dundee and follow signs for the harbour. Once you arrive, you can find the car park located within the port area. Please note: Parking must be pre-booked before arrival.

Choosing to arrival by rail instead? The closest station to the port is Dundee Railway Station which is approximately 1.5 miles from the Passenger Arrivals Area at the port. You’ll be able to get a taxi to the cruise terminal from the taxi rank at the station exit.

Six new cruise routes set sail from Aberdeen

Cruise passengers will soon be able to travel direct from Aberdeen on six new routes, including one to Russia.

Independent travel agent Ramsay Travel has unveiled the brand new routes which will be operated by Cruise & Maritime Voyages from the new Aberdeen South Harbour.

The six routes include voyages around Britain and Paris, trips to the Baltic States and St Petersburg, Norway and Iceland, and will run between August and October 2020.

The cruise company has been running voyages from nearby Dundee and hopes to build on its success in the north-east.

A £350 million harbour expansion is under way at the Bay of Nigg, which will begin to welcome cruise ships when it opens in 2020.

Colin Ramsay, managing director of Ramsay Travel, said: “We have six cruises starting and ending in Aberdeen.

“It has been an astounding success for the last three or four years from Dundee.

“We suggested to them that they do something out of Aberdeen but the problem was getting access to the harbour.

“The new south harbour has given us a great opportunity.”

Mr Ramsay said the city would likely benefit from cruises beginning and ending in its harbour.

He added: “Many people come for a couple of days before or at the end and they will stay in the city.

“There is a pent-up demand in the north-east for this because I know people have been going from Dundee previously and many have to go to Southampton.”

The Marco Polo cruise ship, which will be used for the routes, has space for up to 800 guests along with eight passenger decks, five lounge areas, a swimming pool and walk-around promenade.

Tourist bosses have recently said they are detecting “a lot of interest” in the north-east as a destination for cruise ship passengers.

The new harbour has also been described as a “game changer” for the cruise market as it will allow much larger ships to enter the port.

Stay clear of Ramsay World Travel Dundee! Utterly horrific, didn’t book me on the right holiday from the start and nothing but a nightmare thereafter. Staff very unhelpful and the manager wouldn’t even return my call. No professionalism whatever. If I could have given zero star I would have.

Gordon Ramsay on Why He Loves Norway — and Eating the Best Scallops He's Ever Tasted for 'Uncharted' Season 2 (Video)

Gordon Ramsay is perhaps best known for his swaggering personality as a TV chef — and, of course, the many restaurants and Michelin stars he has to his name. But on top of the success of Hell's Kitchen and his cooking competition show empire, Ramsay has recently taken on a new role: travel host.

On Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted , the celebrated chef travels to remote destinations around the world to learn from locals about the ways they eat, drink, and live. Season two, which premiered on National Geographic on June 7, sees Ramsay traveling from Tasmania to Guyana, Sumatra to the Louisiana bayou. But one of the chef's favorite destinations from filming was just a few hundred miles from his home in London.

For Travel + Leisure 's May Europe issue, we spoke with the chef about his culinary adventures in Norway , home to both centuries-long culinary traditions and some of the most innovative cooking on the continent. Travel + Leisure : Why did you want to go to Norway for this season of Uncharted ?

Gordon Ramsay: "Norway’s cuisine is among the finest in Europe. Of course, I was familiar with amazing Norwegian seafood and cured fish products, but I didn’t know much about the other incredible ingredients and classic dishes. So I was curious to learn more about the region, and to see the people and ingredients that make this the amazing place it is. Plus, I love diving — diving in the fjords in winter sounded so thrilling."

What were some of the most memorable meals that you had in Norway?

"On one cold, exhilarating day, I got to dive for scallops off the southwestern coast. I’ve never had scallops from such a pristine setting, but more importantly, I've never had scallops that tasted so fresh. But I’d have to say the most unusual meal was reindeer blood pancakes….I don’t think those will make it onto the Ramsay Christmas menu any time soon!"

What was your favorite culinary destination in Norway?

"When it comes to food, Bergen can’t be beat. I absolutely fell in love with Norway's second-largest city while we were filming. The mountains, the fjords, the Nordic design. Everything about it is stunning. I tasted some of the best seafood of my life during my few days there. When you have such incredible ingredients in your backyard — from sheep to rockfish to reindeer — the food is going to be top-notch."

Did you have a favorite meal there?

"My guide in Norway was chef Christopher Haatuft, who helped put New Nordic cuisine on the map with his trailblazing Bergen restaurant Lysverket . My meal there was incredible. Christopher and his team are known for elevating traditional recipes like fish soup using fjord-sourced produce and modern techniques. Obviously, he is at the top of his game, and the food he serves out of that tiny kitchen is outstanding."

What else should food-lovers look for in Norway?

"One cool discovery was fanaost , a Gouda-style cheese that’s produced at a farm called Ostegården and recently won first place in the World Cheese Awards. Even the drinking was amazing. Bareksten Spirits in Bergen is producing a London Dry Gin that any Brit would go crazy for. If you visit in the winter, try to go in December for the Christmas market and Norwegian Christmas treats. But the summer is also breathtaking. Sit outside, take in the amazing setting with a local beer, and enjoy the freshest seafood you’ll have anywhere in the world."
