Here's our Star Trek streaming guide, so you know where to go boldly where you've never gone before... Without leaving your sofa. We've come up with this Star Trek streaming guide because since the first ever episode aired back in 1966, there's been  a huge number of additions into the franchise.

Star Trek is currently in a bit of a purple patch for content as Paramount Plus , which is the home of all things Star Trek, is responsible for several new shows in recent years. But, it's not just new content, you'll also find where to stream the classics both movies and TV series below.

Before, Star Trek content was scattered all around different streaming services and searching for what you wanted to watch could feel like hunting for a cloaked Bird of Prey. However, these days you're able to stream all Star Trek content out there on Paramount Plus. However, we do have round-ups of the best sci-fi movies and TV shows on Netflix , Disney Plus and Amazon if you want to check them out.

You can also check out our take on the Star Trek movies, ranked so you know which movies to beam up onto your device. While Paramount Plus has everything Star Trek out there, you can find the odd bit of content on other platforms. So, below you'll find where you can watch what, regardless of where you're based, in our Star Trek streaming guide.

However, for the likes of Picard and Lower Decks, you’ll have to hop on over to Amazon Prime. It's worth noting that platforms such as SkyGo may only have a select number of episodes or series to stream.

Star Trek Movies and Shows

Launched on September 8, 1966 — nearly 54 years ago — the NBC-TV series Star Trek was the beginning of a new age of science fiction on television and, eventually, the big screen. The first show to echo the sophistication and vision of sci-fi literature , Star Trek was only a cult hit at the time of its initial run but refused to die even after its cancellation, with the original 79 episodes running for years in syndication.

More than five decades later, Star Trek encompasses eight TV series (a total of 764 episodes and counting) and 13 films, plus countless books, comics, games and more. It’s had its ups and downs, its high points and its misfires, but it remains one of the most beloved and durable franchises in all of pop culture.

Now, thanks to streaming, all those episodes and movies are available to watch any time (we know you diehard Trekkers have the Blu-rays and DVDs, but you don’t have to break those out anymore). Below is a handy guide to where you can stream every iteration of Trek , from The Original Series to the movies to the new Star Trek: Picard . Grab your remote and boldly go…

Star Trek TV

Star Trek: The Original Series

Star Trek: The Original Series (1966-1969)

The one that started it all, the original Star Trek came along at a time when most screen sci-fi (movies and TV) was still just monster movies or kiddie fare ( Lost in Space , anyone?). Gene Roddenberry ’s vision of an intelligent, allegorical sci-fi series, which used actual genre writers for much of its first two seasons, was groundbreaking in ways that reverberate to this day. And its cast, led by William Shatner as Captain Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Spock and DeForest Kelley as Dr. McCoy, became iconic.

Star Trek: The Animated Series

Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973-1974)

Using the voices of many of the original cast members and even employing writers from the original series, TAS had a genuine chance to extend the original show with the visual freedom animation offered. But the format turned out to be its enemy, as clunky, cheap animation and frequent reuse of shots gave the show a shoddy, amateurish reputation. Some of the stories are quite good, however.

Available in the UK on Netflix UK

Star Trek: The Next Generation

Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-1994)

Set nearly a century after the original series, with Gene Roddenberry mandating that conflict between the crew members be diminished by that point, ST: TNG proved to be enormously popular even with a brand new, unfamiliar crew. It took most of three seasons for the show to find its footing, but Captain Picard (a magnificent Patrick Stewart ) and company went on many captivating and genuinely outstanding adventures of their own.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993-1999)

Many fans consider DS9 the best Trek series ever , and they certainly can make a good argument for it: the first Trek show not set on a starship, but instead on a remote space station, DS9 addressed cultural divides, character conflict, religion and war in a bolder fashion that any Trek entry before it — while also utilizing the kind of serialized storytelling that is now the standard across the medium.

Available in the UK on Netflix UK , Amazon UK* (*purchase only)

Star Trek: Voyager

Star Trek: Voyager (1995-2001)

Voyager found members of a Federation starship and the rebel Maquis stranded together 70,000 years from Earth in the Delta Quadrant, facing a 75-year journey home. Headed by Trek ’s first female captain , Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), Voyager encountered all kinds of interesting new races as well as old enemies the Borg during the long and often compelling journey home.

Star Trek: Enterprise

Star Trek: Enterprise (2001-2005)

The first series to act as a prequel, set a decade before the creation of what would become the United Federation of Planets, Enterprise followed the crew of the first ship to bear that name. Uneven in quality and struggling to find resonant stories, Enterprise was canceled after four seasons and ended an 18-year run for Trek on TV.

Available in the US on Amazon , Netflix , Hulu , CBS All Access

Star Trek: Discovery

Star Trek: Discovery (2017- )

Set 10 years prior to TOS , Discovery ’s troubled birth (it went through numerous delays and several showrunners) led to the most polarizing show in the franchise to date. Focusing for once on a central character other than the captain — mutinous anthropologist Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), who turns out to be the adopted sister of one Mr. Spock — it has often ignored or played fast and loose with Trek continuity while painting Starfleet in a more conspiratorial light. Season 3 will debut in 2020.

Star Trek: Picard

Star Trek: Picard (2020- )

Like Discovery before it, Picard has divided Star Trek fans with its depiction of a Federation in decline, marked by bigotry, deception and treachery. But there is no questioning the powerful presence of Patrick Stewart, playing an older, flawed Picard for the first time in 18 years, and the thrill of seeing old friends like Seven of Nine, Will Riker and Deanna Troi. The show has certainly had its moments ; we’ll see if more are to come in the already-announced season 2 .

The 15 best worst episodes of star trek: the original series, star trek movies.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

After an aborted attempt at a second TV series ( Star Trek: Phase II ), Paramount Pictures brought Trek to the big screen in a lavish, $40 million epic (the most expensive movie of its time) that reunited the original crew in a 2001 -like encounter with a massive, mysterious space probe. Slow-moving, alternately impressive and shaky visually, ST: TMP nevertheless proved that the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise could hold their own on the big screen — and strangely, the film has actually aged better than most.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)

Still considered the finest Trek movie of all , and rightfully so, The Wrath of Khan focused — like the original show — on character and story instead of visual effects and esoteric concepts. Bringing back a deadly enemy from the first season, the generic superman Khan (Ricardo Montalban), the movie was thrilling, dramatic and, with the death of Spock at the finale, incredibly moving.

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984)

Even though the end of Star Trek II strongly hinted at Spock’s return, it wasn’t a given. But Leonard Nimoy did come back for Star Trek III — as director (and yes, as Spock too in the film’s closing minutes) of this somber and often underrated entry . Captain Kirk loses almost everything — his beloved ship, his commission and his newly reconciled son — to save his friend’s life in a poignant story about friendship and loyalty. And there’s a bad-ass villain too, a Klingon captain played to the hilt by Christopher Lloyd.

Available in the UK on NOW TV , * YouTube , * Amazon UK , * Sky Store (*purchase/rent only)

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)

Leonard Nimoy’s second outing as director is both a comedy and an environmentally themed adventure — and it turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the franchise. This light-hearted romp sent Kirk and the gang back to 20 th century San Francisco to rescue a pair of humpback whales, and the fish-out-of-water (pun intended) antics of the crew provide plenty of laughs and a ton of heart.

Available in the UK on NOW TV , * Amazon UK , * YouTube , * Sky Store (*purchase/rent only)

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989)

Shatner got behind the camera for this turgid, unfunny mess , which regularly rates near the bottom of any Trekker’s list. The old “alien pretending to be God” trope, a long-lost brother we never knew Spock had and the other cast members acting by and large like buffoons make this perhaps the most embarrassing of the Enterprise ’s big screen voyages. There are a few nice moments — there always are — but this nowhere near first on our revisit list.

Available in the UK on NOW TV , * Amazon UK , *YouTube , * Sky Store (*purchase/rent only)

Star Trek IV: The Undiscovered Country

Star Trek IV: The Undiscovered Country (1991)

The classic Trek cast bounced back from Star Trek V with a final adventure that was also one of their best . A suspenseful, urgent meditation on aging, grievance and the end of the Cold War, Star Trek IV was a remarkable example of how Trek could show us at our finest even while facing down our lingering demons. Plus it ends with both a great space battle and one of the greatest cast send-offs ever (which was emulated by none other than Avengers Endgame ).

Star Trek: Generations

Star Trek: Generations (1994)

What could have been a magnificent passing of the torch from the classic Trek cast to the TNG crew ends up looking and feeling more like a tepid extended TNG episode with weak cameos from Kirk, Scotty (James Doohan) and Chekov (Walter Koenig). Patrick Stewart and his team are all solid, as is villain Malcolm McDowell, and the crashing of the Enterprise is a genuinely gripping setpiece. But the story and motivations are undercooked — as is most of the movie.

Available in the UK on NOW TV , * Amazon UK , * Sky Store , * YouTube (*purchase/rent only)

Star Trek: First Contact

Star Trek: First Contact (1996)

Easily the best of the TNG quartet, First Contact travels back in time to the very start of Earth’s push into space, where the Borg intends to cripple humanity once and for all. The crew of the Enterprise follow them to make sure history isn’t changed, even as Picard confronts his fear and hatred of the Borg . Jonathan Frakes does a nice first-time directing job, balancing the action and character work ably, while Alice Krige steals the show as the sensual Borg Queen.

Star Trek: Insurrection

Star Trek: Insurrection (1998)

Like Generations , the third TNG theatrical outing feels like a mediocre TV segment stretched to feature length; even Frakes’ direction seems uninspired. One difference: with Picard fighting a secret plan (engineered by F. Murray Abraham, above) to uproot the natives of a “fountain of youth” planet, the seeds were planted for later Trek entries that portrayed an increasingly corrupt Federation. Otherwise, this is a forgettable, often cheesy film.

Star Trek: Nemesis

Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)

The final big-screen outing for the TNG cast is better than its reputation suggests , as Picard squares off against a renegade Romulan who happens to be his clone. Tom Hardy chews the scenery fabulously as the latter, and the climactic battle between his massive ship and the Enterprise is well handled by director Stuart Baird. There’s also a surprising emotional payoff for Data (Brent Spiner) that ends up being the hook for Star Trek: Picard 18 years later.

Star Trek (2009)

Star Trek (2009)

J.J. Abrams does what many thought couldn’t be done — he reboots Star Trek with a fresh, young cast inhabiting the original roles made iconic by Shatner, Nimoy and their crew. The new cast, led by Chris Pine as Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock, is the best thing about the film, which also uses a clever plot device to position this timeline just slightly to the side of the original one. The reliance on action over ideas is a bit of a letdown, and unfortunately would carry over to the next two movies.

Available in the UK on Netflix , NOW TV , * Amazon UK , * Sky Store , * YouTube (*purchase/rent only)

Star Trek Into Darkness

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

One of the worst Trek films ever , right down there with The Final Frontier . STID insults both fans and casual viewers with a brain-dead script, frantic action and massive contrivances (such as the sudden ability for someone to beam across the galaxy or the screenwriters’ well-worn “magic blood” gimmick). But its most egregious offense is turning into a half-assed remake of The Wrath of Khan that’s as dumb as it is pointless. This is what happens when people tackle Trek with no understanding of it.

Available in the UK on * Amazon UK , * Sky Store , * YouTube (*purchase/rent only)

Star Trek Beyond

Star Trek Beyond (2016)

Still too reliant on action over depth, and featuring the third revenge-driven storyline in a row, Star Trek Beyond is nevertheless better than its predecessor . It mostly works as a standalone adventure, and once again the Pine/Quinto cast delivers with heart. But even though Beyond does occasionally capture the vibe of classic Trek , there’s a vague sense of desperation at work — like the franchise knows it’s run out of gas (and crashing the Enterprise for the third time in 13 films doesn’t help).

June 22 will bring “Strange New Worlds,” “Children of the Comet,” and “Ghosts of Illyria” to UK viewers, with future episodes following five weeks after their US, Canada, and Australian release dates — the  Strange New Worlds Season 1 finale will debut July 7 in the United States; the staggered schedule looks to bring that finale episode to the UK on Wednesday, August 10.

We have confirmed directly with Paramount+ UK that all four seasons of  Star Trek: Discovery and the first ten episodes of  Star Trek: Prodigy will all be available in the UK at launch on June 22. TrekCore is currently working to find out if the recently-remastered Star Trek: The Motion Picture — Director’s Edition will be part of the service’s initial UK offerings.

( Star Trek: Picard and  Star Trek: Lower Decks are currently available as Prime Video exclusives in the UK and Ireland.)

Paramount+ will be available in the UK via the Paramount+ on June 22; users will be able to sign up for the service for £6.99/month (or £69.90/year) following a free seven-day trial. Pricing for Ireland has not yet been announced. In addition to the app, Paramount+ will launch on Sky platforms in the UK, with Sky Cinema subscribers getting access to the streaming service at no additional cost.

Strange New Worlds is not the only Paramount+ original series to be impacted by this type of delayed release in the UK; the recently-concluded season of HALO will also debut with three episodes at launch (and a weekly rollout following), as will the Paramount+ adaptation of The Man Who Fell to Earth  — likely to keep viewers from using the 7-day trial period offered to watch all that new content in the first free week.

Hopefully this is just part of the initial launch strategy for Paramount+ in the UK; it seems likely that future seasons of Discovery ,  Strange New Worlds , and  Prodigy will be released simultaneously with the US release schedules once the regional debut is behind… but only time will tell.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds  returns with “Spock Amok” on Thursday, June 2 on Paramount+ in the United States, Australia, Latin America, and the Nordics, as well as on CTV Sci Fi Channel in Canada.

The series will arrive to the UK and Ireland on Paramount+ on June 22; additional international distribution has not yet been announced.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: everything we know about the Star Trek prequel

The latest intel on Original Series prequel Strange New Worlds – including its release date and mysterious Khan connections.

Captain Pike in Star Trek: Strange new Worlds.

  • Release date
  • Is there a trailer?

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2

The adventures of the USS Enterprise didn’t start with James T Kirk. Star Trek : Strange New Worlds is set around a decade before he embarked on the most famous five-year mission in TV history, and puts his predecessor – Christopher Pike – back in the captain’s chair.

Pike first appeared in original Star Trek pilot ‘The Cage’ back in 1966, but it was his comeback in Star Trek: Discovery’s second season (where he was played by Anson Mount) that earned him his own spin-off show. Pike and fellow ‘Cage’ veterans Number One (played by Rebecca Romijn) and Spock (Ethan Peck inheriting the role made famous by Leonard Nimoy) proved so popular with fans that Paramount Plus decided to make Star Trek: Strange New Worlds the latest addition to Trek’s rapidly expanding shared universe .

And when it launches later this year, the show will feature a few more iconic names from the ’60s, including Nurse Chapel, Dr M’Benga and a genuine Trek legend in the form of Uhura. There’s also a mysterious crew member called La’an Noonien-Singh, whose surname has a special resonance for fans of the final frontier.

With producers promising less serialized storytelling than Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds looks set to get back to the cosmos-exploring traditions of the Original Series and The Next Generation. Here’s everything we know so far – hit it!

What is it? A Star Trek: Discovery spin-off following the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike, science officer Spock and first officer Una Chin-Riley (better known as Number One) on the USS Enterprise, around a decade before James T Kirk takes command.

Release date: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will beam onto Paramount Plus on May 5, 2022 – after Star Trek: Discovery season 4 and Star Trek: Picard season 2 have finished boldly going.

Cast: Alongside its familiar trio of lead characters (still played by Discovery's Anson Mount, Ethan Peck and Rebecca Romijn), six new crew members will be taking their places on the Enterprise bridge. Read more about them below.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds release date

Star trek: strange new worlds release date: may 2022.

It's so long ago that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds got its greenlight (May 2020) that Paramount Plus was still known as CBS All Access at the time.

Unfortunately, coronavirus significantly delayed its departure from Spacedock, and the show didn't make it in front of the cameras until March 2021. Production on Strange New Worlds' 10-episode first season eventually wrapped in October 2021, as confirmed in a video announcement from star Anson Mount:

Now the wait for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is almost over. StarTrek.com confirmed on January 18, 2022 that the new voyages of the USS Enterprise will boldly go onto Paramount Plus in the US on Thursday May 5, 2022 – coinciding with the conclusion of Starfleet stablemate Picard's second season.

Jess Bush, who'll play Nurse Christine Chapel in the show, celebrated the announcement by posing in one of the Enterprise's Jefferies Tubes with co-star Christina Chong (La'an Noonien-Singh).

While we know Strange New Worlds will stream on Paramount Plus in the US, it may vary depending on where you are. The streamer is set to launch in the UK in 2022, and we'd expect to see Strange New Worlds debuting on there – especially after the recent controversial announcement that Discovery's fourth season has been shifted from its traditional international home on Netflix, to help launch Paramount Plus around the world.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds trailer

Is there a star trek: strange new worlds trailer.

There's no sign as yet, but with less than three months until the series' launch, it can't be long until we get to see a Star Trek: Strange New Worlds trailer. Indeed, with Star Trek: Discovery returning from its mid-season break and Picard's second season kicking off in early March, Paramount have a pair of tentpoles they can hang a promo off.

That said, journalists at the show's Television Critics Association panel on February 1, 2022 were treated to first-look footage focussing on Cadet Nyota Uhura (played by Celia Rose Gooding), the character made famous by Nichelle Nichols in the Original Series. Den of Geek reported that most of the bridge crew were also accounted for in the clip.

Back in September 2021, the Star Trek Day event also unveiled a brief teaser introducing the cast. It contains a few stills from the new series, including a glimpse at the new-look USS Enterprise uniforms – a modern riff on the classic gold, blue and uniforms we saw in ’The Cage’ and the original series.

Going back even further in time, leads Anson Mount, Ethan Peck and Rebecca Romijn beamed in an announcement video in May 2020:

As you’d expect, the party line was very much that the show exists because of fan demand. “Without you this wouldn’t be happening,” says Peck, while Mount explains a bit about the tone of the series. “[It’s] a classic Star Trek show that deals with optimism and the future.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds poster: the frontier is waiting

While Paramount are keeping us waiting for a trailer, the tantalizing new Star Trek: Strange New Worlds poster is doing more than enough to get us excited about the show. It features Captain Pike on horseback in what looks like his home in the Mojave desert – but the real excitement comes from what's in the sky above him. The iconic USS Enterprise is hovering in front of a pair of alien worlds – and, no doubt, several new life forms and new civilizations.

If the "The frontier is waiting" tagline isn't enough to get Trek fans firing up their warp drives, chances are nothing will.

A post shared by Star Trek (@startrek) A photo posted by on

“We wanted [the poster] to reflect that the [concept] of the final frontier is at just the beginning,” executive producer (and Star Trek's de facto commander-in-chief) Alex Kurtzman told the show's TCA panel (via Syfy ) . “We think it brings the sense of nostalgia hope, optimism, exploration and sense of adventure."

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast

Star trek: strange new worlds cast: who’s beaming onto the enterprise bridge.

The principal Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast looks like this:

  • Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike
  • Ethan Peck as Mr Spock
  • Rebecca Romijn as Una Chin-Riley/Number One
  • Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel
  • Christina Chong as La'an Noonien-Singh
  • Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura
  • Melissa Navia as Lt Erica Ortegas
  • Babs Olusanmokun as Dr M'Benga
  • Bruce Horak as Hemmer

Ever since Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was confirmed in 2020, we've known that three actors would be reprising their roles from Discovery.

Anson Mount is back in the captain’s chair as Captain Christopher Pike. Meanwhile, after proving himself worthy of donning the pointy ears that once belonged to Leonard Nimoy, Ethan Peck returns as Spock. Rebecca Romijn continues as first officer/helmsperson Number One.

A ‘start of production’ video released in March 2021 introduced five other members of the cast:

The five new additions to the USS Enterprise bridge crew are Melissa Navia (from Dietland), Celia Rose Gooding (Jagged Little Pill), Christina Chong (Doctor Who, Line of Duty), Babs Olusanmokun (Black Mirror), and Jess Bush (Skinford).

At the Star Trek Day panel in September 2021, it was finally confirmed who each of them would be playing.  We also learned that the full name of Number One is Una Chin-Riley – the first time this has been confirmed in the character’s 56-year history.

Intriguingly, three of the new cast members are playing characters who – like, Pike, Number One and Spock – were first established in the 1960s.

The most famous of these roles goes to Celia Rose Gooding, who plays a younger version of Nyota Uhura, the Enterprise communications officer famously portrayed by Nichelle Nichols in the original series and first six Star Trek movies. (Guardians of the Galaxy's Zoe Saldana took on the role in JJ Abrams' rebooted Trek.)

Gooding explained to the assembled journalists at the TCA event in February 2021 that this will be a much less experienced version of the communications officer we saw serving alongside Captain Kirk in the Original series.

“Nichelle had a level of understanding and clarity [in her portrayal], but we're showing different parts of her humanity, which isn't as sure and asks questions as we go along,” the actress explained. “Getting to represent an iconic character in a multi-faceted way is an honor and now we're getting to see other sides of Uhura that go outside of the limitations set for Black women in the '60s."

Babs Olusanmokun plays Dr M'Benga (originally played by Booker Bradshaw), a character who filled in as the Enterprise's chief medical officer when Dr McCoy was absent in the original series. Jess Bush, meanwhile, inherits the role of Nurse Christine Chapel, who worked alongside McCoy in the Enterprise Sick Bay.

Chapel is one of two Strange New Worlds characters who were originally played by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry back in the 1960s – the other is Number One, who made her one-and-only vintage Trek appearance in 'The Cage'. (Barrett-Roddenberry also went on to play Lwaxana Troi and voice the Enterprise computers in The Next Generation.)

Of the Starfleet newbies, Bruce Horak's Hemmer is a member of the Andorian species. The fact he's wearing a red shirt – aka Star Trek's sartorial kiss of death – doesn't bode well for his life expectancy. The same could be said for Melissa Navia's Lt Erica Ortegas.

The most mysterious addition to the cast, however, is Christina Chong's La'an Noonien-Singh. The fact she shares a surname with The Wrath of Khan's Big Bad can't be a coincidence, but seeing as Trek canon tells us the cryogenically frozen 20th century villain won't be thawed out until after Kirk has taken command of the Enterprise, it's unclear how they're linked – but there definitely is a connection.

"She's related to Khan for sure, and, uh, the deal will unfold...” co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman confirmed at a Television Critics Association panel in February 2022 (via the Hollywood Reporter ).

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds already has its first great mystery...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds story

What can we expect to see in the star trek: strange new worlds story.

Star Trek: Discovery spoilers ahead – proceed with caution if you haven't seen season 2.

Pike, Spock and Number One have been part of the Star Trek story even longer than James T Kirk – they were on board the Enterprise in original Star Trek pilot ‘The Cage’, unaired in the ’60s and set more than a decade before Kirk’s famous five-year mission. Jeffrey Hunter, Leonard Nimoy and Majel Barrett originated the three roles.

While we know that the trio have been together at least three years by the time Star Trek: Strange New Worlds kicks off and that a tragic fate awaits Pike – more on that later – most of their voyages remain undocumented. That means it’s prime storytelling territory and – after the more serialized Discovery and Picard – a chance for Trek to get back to the standalone stories of its earlier years.

“We’re going to try to harken back to some classical Trek values, to be optimistic, and to be more episodic,” executive producer Akiva Goldsman (and director of the Strange New Worlds pilot episode) told Variety in May 2020. “Obviously, we will take advantage of the serialized nature of character and story building. But I think our plots will be more closed-ended than you’ve seen in either Discovery or Picard.”

The ability to visit a huge galaxy of, well, strange new worlds, should allow the show to feel different from week to week – after all, this versatile formula is a big reason for the franchise’s longevity.

“We want to do Star Trek in the classic mode; Star Trek in the way Star Trek stories were always told,” fellow EP Henry Alonso Myers said at a Star Trek Day panel (via TrekMovie ). “It's a ship and it's traveling to strange new worlds and we are going to tell big ideas science fiction adventures in an episodic mode. So we have room to meet new aliens, see new ships, visit new cultures..."

Strange New Worlds won't be entirely devoid of serialization, however, as writer Akela Cooper explained: “While we'll have individual one-off plots, the character arcs are what's going to carry us through in a more serialized fashion. There's probably one point that we will be sprinkling through this series until we actually get to the episode. And that's all I can say about that.”

Goldsman explained a bit more about the structure of the show in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in April: “If you think back to the original [Star Trek] series, it was tonally more liberal – I don‘t mean in terms of politics but it could sort of be more fluid. Like sometimes Robert Bloch would write a horror episode. Or Harlan Ellison would have ‘City on the Edge of Forever’, which is hard sci-fi. Then there would be comedic episodes like 'Shore Leave’ or ‘The Trouble with Tribbles’. So [co-showrunner] Henry Alonso Myers and myself are trying to serve that. We’ve all become very enamored, myself included, with serialized storytelling. Picard is deeply serialized but Strange New Worlds is very much adventure-of-the-week, but with serialized character arcs.”

Strange New Worlds

Going on Mount’s performance in Discovery, Pike is the ideal captain for an optimistic mission of exploration.

“The writers have done a magnificent job of establishing this captain as his own iteration of what a Starfleet captain should be, independent of other captains in canon,” the actor said at the TCA panel (as reported by Syfy ). “Humility is a big part of his character. And his father was a science teacher and scholar of comparative religion, so exploration is a big part of Pike. He’s looking at the things that made us see what’s next over the horizon? Are we searchers or conquerors?”

We can also expect to see a Spock more prone to displays of emotion than his Original Series counterpart, as the younger version of the character struggles to balance his logical Vulcan side with his human urges.

Indeed, in ‘The Cage’, Number One was the more buttoned-up, logical member of the crew – her personality traits passing to the Vulcan when Star Trek went to series. “She's way more complex than y'all know,” actor Rebecca Romijn teased in the cast introduction video released on Star Trek Day, and she expanded on the theme in the panel.

“'The Cage' being such an old pilot, the writers have this very unique opportunity where they've had this character that's existed since the beginning of the canon, but she's never been written,” Romijn pointed out. “I can't wait to find out how vast her skill set is. What are the arrows in her quiver? My number one question is, 'What's her backstory?’ [The writer's room] floated an idea for Number One's backstory that I'm not going to share right now because it blew my mind when they said it.”

Despite being made more than half a century after the Original Series, the look of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will echo those early ’60s designs – from the Enterprise starship interiors to the Starfleet uniforms.

“It’s a fine line because, obviously, we want to keep continuity with the storytelling and the style, but we also want Strange New Worlds to be a different show,” Goldsman told the Hollywood Reporter. “It’s not Discovery. There are a few more reach-backs [to the Original Series] and the uniforms have been adjusted slightly, the sets are slightly different. Remember, the Enterprise existed as a little piece [of Star Trek: Discovery], but now it’s its own object. When you close your eyes and think of the key sets and situations that you think of the Original Series, that’s what we’re looking to do.”

Intriguingly, at this point in the Star Trek timeline , Kirk and other members of the original crew must be out there somewhere in the universe, so the smart money would be on a few headline-grabbing (recast) guest appearances – as the older members of the Original Series line-up, McCoy and Scotty would seem prime candidates.

If a few familiar faces do turn up, however, we may have to wait a while to see them, with Goldsman telling the TCA panel that bringing classic characters back into the fray isn't a priority.

“We’re starting wth this crew and don’t want to bring folks into the show to be splashy,” he said. “We want to dig deeply into the characters in this ensemble. We’re open to widening our arms, but right now, and this is said in the best possible way, what you see is what you get."

Perhaps the biggest elephant on the Enterprise bridge, however, is Pike’s tragic story…

When we meet him in Original Series two-parter ‘The Menagerie’, it’s revealed that he’s been left severely disabled by a radiation leak. In Discovery, he’s forced to endure a vision of that future, so it'll be intriguing to see how that knowledge preys on his mind, and how much it plays into Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ story.

“The most honest thing I can say is, I'm still figuring out,” Mount explained at Star Trek Day. “Pike didn't just learn how he dies, he learns in what circumstances. So we do know that at some point he's going to be presented with a promotion opportunity to Fleet Captain. And he has to accept that in order for the fate to come into existence. So what is it that's going to allow him, both in terms of circumstance and emotion, to accept that promotion? It's a tough question but I think we'll figure it out together.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 is already confirmed

The show hasn't even aired yet and Strange New Worlds: season 2 has already been confirmed by Paramount Plus via StarTrek.com . In fact, the streaming service is so engaged by the prospect of a follow-up season that it's already shooting – one journalist at Strange New Worlds' TCA panel on February 1, 2022 noted that Ethan Peck was wearing his Vulcan ears and costume because he was already working on the new season.

At the #StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds #TCA22 panel, Ethan Peck has his costume and Vulcan ears on. He's currently shooting. February 1, 2022

Star Trek [ ]

Initially, the BBC was the first-run broadcaster of Star Trek ( 12 July 1969 - 15 December 1971 ). The series was not shown in airdate or production order (although unlike on NBC, the " Where No Man Has Gone Before " pilot was aired first), and the BBC edited some episodes for violent content. The series was shown in four seasons, the first on Saturday evenings at 5:15 pm (in the time slot usually taken by Doctor Who ), the second on Monday evenings at 7:10 pm. The final two seasons were shown on Wednesday evenings at 7:10 pm. Star Trek was one of BBC's bigger ratings winners and was repeated throughout the 1970s and early '80s. ( Star Trek Magazine  issue 177 , p. 33)

During their original run of The Original Series , the BBC had chosen not to show the episodes " The Empath ", " Whom Gods Destroy ", and " Plato's Stepchildren ", deeming them unsuitable for the series time slot, due to their assessment that " (...) they all dealt most unpleasantly with the already unpleasant subjects of madness, torture, sadism and disease ", as stated in a letter sent to the UK-based Star Trek Action Group in 1976. These episodes were eventually shown during the 1992 repeat run. " Miri " was not repeated by the BBC until 1993 for similar reasons, following audience complaints after its original transmission. ( Star Trek Magazine  issue 177 , p. 33)

Apart from having no commercial breaks, there were several differences in how the episodes were presented, compared to their original NBC broadasts:

Firstly, all episodes had their opening titles moved to the start, in common with many series shown by the BBC.

Secondly, all Season 1 episodes featured the cello version of the theme music. The electric violin version originally used on the earliest episodes would not be heard in the UK until the VHS release of " Where No Man Has Gone Before ".

Thirdly, William Shatner 's opening narration was heard on " Where No Man Has Gone Before ", having been absent on NBC.

Finally, the Desilu and/or Paramount closing logos were removed from all episodes, again in line with BBC policy, though it was a policy inconsistently followed as many imported series did keep their closing logos. However, ITV broadcasts still use the Desilu and/or Paramount closing logos until it fades to every ITV endcap in every ITV region.

At the time of first airing, BBC was still broadcasting in black and white. The first episode transmitted in color was " Arena ".

Following the huge success of the series in the UK, BBC subsequently repeated the series throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, but in the order which followed the original NBC schedule.

Spin-offs [ ]

The first season of Star Trek: The Animated Series was broadcast from 31 August 1974 to 22 December 1974 , with the second season being incorporated into a broadcast run the following year.

Star Trek: The Next Generation premiered 26 September 1990 and ran until 6 May 1992 , up to " The Best of Both Worlds, Part II ". Many of the first season episodes were shown out of original airdate order, leading to some inconsistencies in plot lines across the first few episodes. After 1992 , the first-run rights of TNG – and later DS9 and Voyager – went to Sky One , with the BBC showing the episodes several months later.

From 26 August 1992 , the BBC instead repeated The Original Series , ending on 6 April 1994 . This screening mirrored the original US airdate order, and restored all of the edited content. The run of The Next Generation started again on 13 April 1994 , and once the run ended in 1996 the entire series repeated in its now regular Wednesday 6 pm time slot.

All of the Trek spin-offs were shown in an early-evening 6:00 pm slot – TNG on Wednesdays, DS9 on Thursdays, and VOY on Sundays – and as a result, several episodes had to be cut for violence and disturbing imagery, most notably the TNG episodes " Conspiracy " and " The Icarus Factor ". The BBC also refused to show the episode " The High Ground " due to political sensitivity over its content (stating that terrorism had succeeded in re-unifying Ireland), broadcasting the episode for the first time on 29 September 2007 , nine years after the Good Friday Agreement brought the conflict in question to a largely peaceful end.

The BBC lost out in the bidding to broadcast Star Trek: Enterprise on terrestrial re-run to Channel 4 in 2001 , and did not renew its repeat rights for the other series until 2006 , when in July, Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation returned to the screen – Star Trek in a late-night Friday slot, with The Next Generation in a mid-afternoon Saturday slot (later following on from TOS in the Friday slot). Voyager repeat rights were taken by Five in 2005 .

BBC Two stopped repeating TOS in 2007 and TNG in 2008

‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Coming To Nickelodeon In The UK And 8 Other Countries In April

| March 22, 2022 | By: Anthony Pascale 6 comments so far

Star Trek: Prodigy is about to expand its global reach as the animated series aimed at kids of all ages is set to debut on the Nickelodeon channel in the UK in April, along with eight other countries.

Prodigy coming to Nickelodeon internationally

TrekMovie has confirmed Nickelodeon is set to start their international rollout of Star Trek: Prodigy , beginning with nine countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa. In April the series will debut in the UK, France, Spain, and Portugal for Europe. It will also debut in Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines in Asia. And in Africa, the series will debut in Nigeria and South Africa. Nickelodeon will be airing the first 10 episodes from the first half of season one, which have already streamed on Paramount+. We are currently awaiting exact release dates for each territory.

Angus Imrie as Zero, Rylee Alazraqui as Rok-Tahk, Brett Gray as Dal, David Lee Bradley as Murf and Jason Mantzoukas as Jankom Pog in the series premiere “Lost and Found, Part 1”

Created by Emmy-winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (Trollhunters), the CG-animated series was developed for younger audiences and those not familiar with Star Trek. The series follows a motley crew of young aliens who discover a Starfleet ship and must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future. Even though it is intended for the uninitiated, the series has been popular with many Trek fans, especially those with families. The voice cast includes Kate Mulgrew, playing the Emergency Training Hologram, based on Captain Kathryn Janeway of Star Trek: Voyager .

Various international Nickelodeon websites have started to set up promotional pages for the show, including the UK,  where you can watch trailers and get more Prodigy -related info.

Over last weekend Nickelodeon UK hosted a premiere event with BAFTA including a panel with series creators Kevin and Dan Hageman, director Ben Hibon, and stars Angus Imrie, Kate Mulgrew, and Ella Purnell.

According to Nickelodeon, they plan to launch Prodigy in additional international territories later this year, but those details have yet to be announced. Prodigy is also expected to arrive on Nickelodeon in the USA, however, there currently aren’t any details yet.

Prodigy streams on Paramount+ in the U.S.A., Latin America, the Nordic Countries, and Australia. It will also be available to stream via the Paramouint+ Sky partnership as that roles out in Europe, starting in the UK this summer. In Canada Prodigy airs on CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave . Paramount+ has announced plans to debut the second half of season one later in 2022.

Interview: Kate Mulgrew On Chakotay And The ‘Prodigy’ Janeways; Her Conditions For More Live-Action Star Trek

At last! I’m in the US myself and have loved this show since Day 1, but I’m glad our comrades across the pond will finally get to enjoy it as well.

Thanks from the other side of the pond.

I mean, I didn’t personally do anything to make it happen, but you’re welcome all the same! ;) :D

And I hope you enjoy the show as much as I do.

At first I assumed Prodigy was going to be just for kids and I had no real expectations…. i just hoped it would help build a new younģer audience for future Star Trek.

That said, I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by the show. If you keep an open mind and remember who the target audience is, I think even old time legacy fans like me also can enjoy the show.

I must say, at 55 years young, I’ve also enjoyed this show thus far, like you said keeping in mind its target audience. Good writing, nice callbacks to former shows, respects what came before it. I especially enjoyed the “Kobayashi” episode, very well done, imo.

With the exception of TOS Season One, this is the only Trek series to launch with a clear sense of purpose, how the characters’ arcs will grow and organically serve that purpose, and what the overall themes will be and how they will be addressed. Most Trek series need at least a couple of seasons to figure out all of this, but Prodigy nailed it from the pilot.

From TNG forward, there has always been quite a revolving door of creative executives from the start, and I’d wager that’s the reason for the uncertainty of what ended up on screen. Perhaps the Prodigy team is much more on the same page than prior Trek creative teams?

The Star Trek Movie Franchise Is Finally Available to Stream For Free

The acolyte's creator wants to make a live-action kotor with a fascinating protagonist, dexter: resurrection: these fan theories are compelling.

Star Trek is one of the most popular sci-fi franchises in the world alongside Star Wars , spanning several movies and television series. The original TV show in the late 1960s ran for three seasons, but there were four episodes that were banned in the UK for some time.

As writer Stephen Bell states in his essay, Star Trek is primarily an adult program that’s not necessarily intended for young children, but kids have become fans of the franchise just as much as their parents. The four banned episodes provide curiosity as to what the UK saw in them that was offensive or unwatchable for spectators of Star Trek .

Which Star Trek Episodes Were Banned in the UK?

The Star Trek episodes that were banned in the UK were “Miri,” “Whom Gods Destroy,” “Plato’s Stepchildren,” and “The Empath.” “Miri” was an episode from season one of Star Trek: The Original Series , while the other three were from the third and final season of that show.

“Miri” was about Captain Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and the Enterprise crew encountering a dying planet in which disease causes children to stay young for hundreds of years, but then age rapidly afterward.

“Whom Gods Destroy” involves Kirk and Spock being trapped on a planet that serves as an asylum which is controlled by Garth (a former starship captain who intends to take over the Enterprise due to his intentions of being powerful and immortal). Garth is a sneaky Star Trek villain who can also change his appearance and become anyone, especially when trying to fool Kirk and his crew, so he can get on the Enterprise and commandeer the ship.

"Plato's Stepchildren" focuses on aliens with telekinetic powers who force McCoy to stay on their planet as their primary doctor (since they have no other medical professionals). When McCoy refuses, the aliens control the Enterprise crew and force them to commit rude and unruly actions.

"The Empath" is another episode in which aliens set up controlled experiments on the Enterprise crew. There's also a mute female alien named Gem, who's an Empath (meaning she can adapt her nervous system to someone else's and feel the other person's pain in her own body). Gem's power is tested in order to make the difficult decision to save her own planet or another.

Why Were the Episodes Banned?

These Star Trek episodes were banned by the UK because, according to the BBC, the subject matter was considered too intense for minors due to the themes of disease, torture, madness, sadism, and other unpleasant content that was considered controversial , especially during that time period. The BBC would continue to reject airing these episodes for several years in the 1970s and 1980s. Yet, despite the longtime ban, there were British Star Trek conventions for several fans of the show, including one American fan who brought a copy of "The Empath" to have it screened at the second convention in 1975.

In 1976, there was a convention report mentioning that both "The Empath" and "Miri" were showcased, receiving a positive reception from cheerful fans. Along with conventions, Star Trek fans set up clubs, campaigns, and petitions, writing letters to the BBC urging the corporation to reverse the ban and air all four episodes on television for UK viewers. The BBC continued to ban the episodes, but several fans were able to get their hands on copies of the episodes thanks to the evolution of rental VHS videotapes. The VCR and VHS tapes were examples of new technology that allowed fans to buy and/or rent episodes without having to wait for the BBC's approval (or disapproval), or rely on scheduled programming.

While most fans overall to see all four episodes and disagreed with the ban, there was negative criticism of certain episodes. Bell mentions in his essay that he enjoyed "Miri" and "Whom Gods Destroy," but that "The Empath" and "Plato's Stepchildren" did have distasteful and suggestive content that should be aired later in the evening for mature audiences. Another fan disliked "Whom Gods Destroy" due to the story's average predictability, unconvincing villains, and the typical concept surrounding an asylum. On the contrary, the same fan liked "Plato's Stepchildren" as a unique and outside-the-box episode with strong villains. However, they noted embarrassing moments involving Captain Kirk and his crew committing inappropriate actions, like characters being flirtatious with each other or Kirk crawling on all fours and pretending to neigh like a horse.

Gene Roddenberry (the creator of Star Trek: The Original Series along with a couple of other spin-offs) was adamant in his disapproval of the ban. However, he also stated that shows involving violence and sensual content must be done the right way without senseless inclusions or exaggerations. Gene also argues that TV shows like Star Trek will inevitably have characters and stories with pain and suffering, because everyone goes through it in their daily lives. This proves that Gene is a storyteller who deeply cared about his show and stood by how it was presented to a high-viewing public.

When Was The Ban Lifted?

The ban was finally lifted by the BBC in the early 1990s, thanks to enough complaints from fans of Star Trek to demand the airing of all four episodes. While this case was finally resolved, this is one example of the BBC and how firm the corporation is when it comes to censorship and determining what content they consider watchable and inappropriate for their UK television viewers.

The UK's standards on TV censorship seem to be stricter than those in the U.S. However, the evolution of technology (like VCRs and VHS tapes at that time) and increased fandom and conventions prove that spectators and devoted viewers of shows like Star Trek can make a case for the content they want to see. Perhaps current fandom for the DC Universe can take notice and learn from this situation, so they can argue for the DC characters and stories they intend to view more of in theaters and on the small screen.

Star Trek: Discovery’s Wilson Cruz Feels There's More To Hugh Culber’s Story, So We Discussed Whether It Could Continue In Starfleet Academy

There's more potential for the story.

Star Trek: Discovery 's final season celebrated the series and gave an ending that actors like Doug Jones felt gave them closure on their characters. That's not to say everyone felt that way, however, as actor Wilson Cruz recently revealed to CinemaBlend he felt there was more potential for Hugh Culber's story to grow. With several Discovery cast members joining the cast of Starfleet Academy , Culber could return, too, but would the actor show up?

Cruz was gracious enough to speak to CinemaBlend to promote the upcoming digital release of Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 on August 26th, and on Blu-ray and DVD on August 27th. We discussed the totality of Culber's story in the series, which fans can rewatch with a Paramount+ subscription , and how Season 5 finally felt like the ship's doctor had conquered his inner turmoil and was ready to move forward. Cruz spoke about his feelings of the final arc and the potential it had:

I was actually really excited about now that we've closed this chapter of questioning, who he was gonna be now, right? Like, he was firing on all cylinders at that point. So, I, I feel like we're gonna probably see him step into more of his counseling and see him more on these away missions. There was a lot of opportunities for that. So I just feel like, by the time we finished the season, this was a character that was completely three-dimensional We've seen him in every conceivable position. I could really take him anywhere, and I felt like as an actor, I could step into any situation, and I could make it work.

Hugh Culber pointing on the set of Star Trek: Discovery

Hugh Culber had a new zest for life he lacked after his resurrection, and it sparked a real change in him that would've been great to explore in another season. Of course, Star Trek: Discovery was canceled , so I feel we were robbed of what this new era of Culber on the show could've been.

Part of that transformation was thanks to the episode "Jinaal," in which Culber volunteered to be a temporary vessel for a Trill, Jinaal Bix, who had information the Discovery crew needed. Though the ritual made the process temporary, Wilson Cruz confirmed to CinemaBlend that there are echoes of Jinaal that remain in Hugh's body:

If you look at the rest of the season, I haven't really talked about this, there was an element of Jinaal still left in him. There was still the awe, you know, the thing about Jinaal was that he was locked in that away for 800 years, and there was a joy of being alive again that [Culber] understood but never allowed himself to live it. And I feel like Jinaal gave him the ability to be like, ‘Yes, this existence is amazing and can be exciting and fun, and I need to embrace that part of it.’

Imagine Culber maintaining some semblance of his boldness while being Jinaal and taking that with him on new away missions! It's killing me that we didn't get another season of Star Trek: Discovery to explore that, though I did think the series' conclusion was solid enough.

There is one upcoming Star Trek series that Hugh Culber could join, and it's already added Discovery characters to its cast . I felt like I knew the answer already, but for posterity's sake, I asked Wilson Cruz if he'd like to reprise Culber on Starfleet Academy for a chance to show off the new side of the character. He answered:

Yeah. They know where I am. They know my email. They know my phone number. They know all of my representatives, and they know that I would come back. So I'll leave it at that, but I haven't been asked.

I have a feeling that once Star Trek: Discovery characters start to appear in Starfleet Academy , we're going to see a number of them pop in and out of the show. I definitely think that Wilson Cruz's character is an obvious choice, and that he could teach cadets a lot of things about medicine and counseling others on a ship.

Doug Jones in Stra Trek: Discovery

Jones explained what was up to CinemaBlend.

Starfleet Academy is its own show, though, and with the massive cast it already has, it could be telling more stories about the 32nd century rather than continuing the story of Star Trek: Discovery . That's not to say there won't be ways for it to be connected, as even shows like The Next Generation found ways to work in The Original Series actors, in addition to its numerous guest stars , despite a 100-year gap in the timeline.

If an appearance in Starfleet Academy isn't in the cards, there are always novels and comic books to continue Hugh Culber's personal journey. After all, the story in Star Trek is never truly over for its characters when the show ends unless they die like Trip Tucker did in Enterprise 's finale. Aside from that, however, I would expect to see Culber in more Trek adventures regardless of their medium.

Star Trek: Discovery is available to stream right now on Paramount+. I'm planning on re-watching Seasons 3-5 ahead of Starfleet Academy 's release to get a refresher on life in the 32nd century, and am hoping a good number of fans get the same idea so we can revisit it together.

Strange New Worlds Season 2 Cast Guide — Every New & Returning Star Trek Character

Strange new worlds’ season 3 vulcan episode could be sybok’s perfect star trek comeback, i want strange new worlds to break star trek canon & save captain pike.

  • Paul Wesley played three versions of James T. Kirk in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
  • Unexpected twists include an alternate future Kirk, a different reality Kirk, and Lt. Kirk's debut.
  • The Kirk family legacy on the Enterprise is further explored with the addition of Lt. Sam Kirk.

Paul Wesley portrays three versions of James T. Kirk in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds . Wesley is the third actor to play Kirk in live-action as an adult, following in the footsteps of William Shatner, who originated the legendary Captain in Star Trek: The Original Series , and Chris Pine, who plays the alternate Kelvin Timeline's Captain Kirk in the J.J. Abrams-produced Star Trek movie trilogy. Meanwhile, there is yet another Kirk serving on the Starship Enterprise in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

It was a surprise when Star Trek: Strange New Worlds announced Paul Wesley was cast as James T. Kirk before season 1 premiered in 2022. Strange New Worlds is a prequel set about 7 years before Star Trek: The Original Series , but the series was expected to exclusively focus on Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Number One (Rebecca Romijn), and Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck). That USS Enterprise trio who debuted to great acclaim in Star Trek: Discovery season 2 before receiving their own spinoff. Not only was Strange New Worlds adding a young Kirk initially a curveball, but so is Paul Wesley also playing alternate reality versions of Captain Kirk.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' cast of USS Enterprise legends grows in season 2, including the additions of Scotty and Lt. James T. Kirk.

4 Captain Kirk In Strange New Worlds Season 1, Episode 10 - "A Quality Of Mercy"

This james t. kirk is captain of the uss farragut.

Paul Wesley's debut as Captain James T. Kirk is in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1's finale, "A Quality of Mercy." In an alternate future where Captain Pike never gave up command of the USS Enterprise, Kirk is Captain of the USS Farragut. Pike and Kirk's starships team up against a Romulan incursion in a reworked version of the Star Trek: The Original Series episode, "Balance of Terror," which ended up having a very different and tragic result for the United Federation of Planets.

Captain Pike's tendency toward diplomacy ended up being the spark of an endless war with the Romulans, whereas Captain Kirk's decisive aggression in Star Trek: The Original Series prevented that same war.

However, this Star Trek alternate future timeline, and this version of Captain Kirk, were deleted by Captain Pike choosing to accept his tragic fate so that this future never comes to pass. Partially driving Pike's decision was learning that avoiding the tragic accident that disfigured him would force a similar fate upon Spock. Meanwhile, Pike was so intrigued by Kirk that Strange New Worlds season 1's finale ends with Chris looking up Lt. James T. Kirk's personnel file to learn more about the young Starfleet Officer.

3 Captain Kirk In Strange New Worlds Season 2, Episode 3 - "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow"

A different captain kirk falls for la'an noonien-singh.

Paul Wesley plays a second Captain James T. Kirk from another alternate reality in Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 3 , "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow." This Captain Kirk grew up in space aboard the USS Iowa and is the Captain of the United Earth Fleet's USS Enterprise, which is also mired in a losing war with the Romulans. Kirk ended up in 21st-century Toronto with Lieutenant La'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) , where the duo sought to prevent a terrorist attack that would alter Star Trek 's timeline.

Heartbreakingly, Captain Kirk was murdered by a Romulan operative named Sera.

La'an fell in love with Captain Kirk during their mutual ordeal in the past. La'an's time with James, who was relaxed and outgoing, sparked her desire to break out of her shell which kept La'an from connecting with others. Kirk and La'an also encountered Pelia (Carol Kane), the extremely long-lived Lanthanite, centuries before she became a Starfleet engineer. Heartbreakingly, Captain Kirk was murdered by a Romulan operative named Sera (Adelaide Kane). When La'an foiled Sera's attempt to assassinate a young Khan Noonien Singh (Desmond Sivan), Kirk and his timeline were wiped from existence when Star Trek' s proper timeline was restored.

2 Lt. James T. Kirk In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Lt. kirk is the younger version of william shatner's captain kirk.

Paul Wesley's primary version of Kirk, Lt. James T. Kirk, officially debuted at the end of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 3, "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow," but Kirk finally beamed aboard the USS Enterprise in Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 6 , "Lost in Translation." The newly-appointed First Officer of the USS Farragut, Kirk soon helped Ensign Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), who introduced him to Lt. Spock, forging Star Trek: The Original Series ' iconic friendships.

Lt. Kirk also joined the crew of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' musical episode.

While Lt. Kirk was educated in the finer points of being a First Officer from Number One (Rebecca Romijn), he also learned from Lt. La'an Noonien-Singh about the alternate reality Kirk she met and fell for. Although Kirk is attracted to La'an , James admitted he has a pregnant girlfriend named Carol. Lt. Kirk also joined the crew of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ' musical episode, and Paul Wesley will return as Kirk in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3.

1 Lt. Sam Kirk In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

There's already a kirk serving on the starship enterprise.

Another surprise from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is that another Kirk serves on the USS Enterprise before James T. Kirk is assigned to the Federation flagship. Dan Jeannotte plays Lieutenant George Samuel "Sam" Kirk , the older brother of James T. Kirk. The mustachioed Sam is a xenobiologist and a friend of Captain Christopher Pike. Sam takes great pride in serving on the Enterprise. Still, sibling rivalry flares up whenever his brother Jim beams aboard.

It''s ironic that Sam Kirk begins the Kirk family's legacy aboard the Starship Enterprise.

Lt. Sam Kirk is destined to die in Star Trek: The Original Series , but in Strange New Worlds, Sam is a popular member of the Enterprise crew. Unfortunately, and amusingly, Lt. Spock is no fan of Sam's . Still, it's ironic that Sam begins the Kirk family's legacy aboard the Starship Enterprise, setting the stage for James T. Kirk's legendary Captaincy. And it's amazing that in just 2 seasons thus far, four versions of Kirk have appeared in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Fans were shocked when Terminator and Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin’s cause of death was revealed.

The much-loved actor passed away at the age of just 27, having starred in TV shows such as ER, NYPD Blue and Curb Your Enthusiasm – as well as 2009 movies Star Trek and Terminator Salvation and 2016's Star Trek Beyond. He had even been the voice of Clumsy Smurf in several of the hit Smurfs movies.

But, Anton – born in Russia, but who emigrated to the USA with his parents at six months old – was sadly killed in an horrific accident that nobody could have foreseen. The young star was found dead by friends in the early hours of 18 June 2016, after failing to make it into a rehearsal the previous day.

He was pinned between his Jeep Cherokee and a gatepost on the driveway of his Los Angeles property, and had died from ‘blunt trauma asphyxia.”

Investigations revealed that he’d gone to check the post box on his gate when arriving home, when the vehicle accidentally rolled down the steep incline of his driveway, tragically meaning he was unable to move.

A lawsuit later stated: “Anton Yelchin was crushed and lingered alive for some time, trapped and suffocating until his death.”

Celebrities were shocked, taking to Twitter to pay their respects. Pitch Perfect actress Anna Kendrick said: This is unreal. Anton Yelchin is such a talent. Such a huge loss," while filmmaker Guillermo del Toro – who worked with Anton on his animated series Trollhunters – commented: "The sweetest, most humble, delightful, talented guy you'd ever meet. Worked together for about a year. Shocked."

One Tree Hill actor Chad Michael Murray penned: "Just heard about #AntonYelchin what a great talent and good young man. Gone far too soon... #GodBless Terrible loss. You I'll be missed," and Doctor Who star Andrew Hayden-Smith added: "Wow, that's sad news about Anton Yelchin. A very talented guy taken away too soon."

The manufacturer of the Grand Cherokee was reportedly aware of certain models having problems with 'rollaway' incidents, when drivers were unsure if they were parked or in gear.

But a software patch didn’t reach dealers until after his death. Fiat Chrysler and Anton’s family eventually reached an out of court settlement, with the manufacturer saying it was "pleased that we’ve reached an amicable resolution in this matter” and that the car company continues to “extend our deepest sympathies to the Yelchin family for their tragic loss.”
