15 Best Day Trips from Panama City

The constantly evolving Panama City is one of the most culturally diverse and thrilling places in Central America, thanks to its location straddling two continents and Panama’s turbulent history as Latin America’s financial hub.

The contrast between the gorgeous colonial old city and the glittering metropolis that has sprouted up in the center makes it a fascinating place to explore.

From churches to casinos, there’s enough to keep everyone entertained.

When it comes to taking a break from the city, Panama’s subtropical latitude and climate mean that there is a wealth of idyllic destinations within easy reach of the capital.

From paradise beaches to monkey-inhabited islands, here are some of the best day trips from Panama City.

1. San Lorenzo Fort

San Lorenzo Fort, Panama

A tour of the historic site of the San Lorenzo Fort will have you feeling like you’ve stepped into a real-life Pirates of the Caribbean set.

Located north of the city of Colón, the fort can be reached in less than two hours from the capital, with a route that provides spectacular views of the countryside before even arriving.

Overlooking the mouth of the Chagres River, San Lorenzo was the site of many battles between pirates and Spanish settlers and has now largely fallen into ruin.

However, the fascinating history, preserved walls and tropical surroundings make it a truly breathtaking destination.

Recommended tour : Panama Canal, Colón Rainforest and San Lorenzo Fort Tour

2. Colón Rainforest

Colón Rainforest

Colón is one of the oldest cities in Panama, and it combines decadent colonial architecture with the appeal of being a popular tax-free retail haven.

However, a short ferry ride from the city, you’ll find yourself in its beautiful neighbouring rainforest.

The gorgeously lush ecosystem is home to an astonishing variety of mammals, reptiles and amphibians and is a world away from the hustle and bustle of Panama City and the materialistic atmosphere of Colón.

3. Chagres National Park

Chagres National Park

Growing in abundance around the Chagres River and protecting its function as a water source, the Chagres National Park is a place of hidden wonders, indigenous culture and natural beauty.

Reachable in an hour from the capital, you can embark on river journeys here, usually aboard traditional canoe-style vessels that carry you through the rainforest and to secret pools and waterfalls.

You’ll also get the chance to visit an Embera Village, inhabited by indigenous people who share their history and knowledge of the rainforest with visitors.

Between hiking, boat rides and fascinating culture, a trip to Chagres National Park is an unforgettable way to spend the day.

Suggested tour : Chagres National Park Hike & Embera Village Tour from Panama

4. Monkey Island

Monkey Island, Panama

Embark on a journey around the islands in the Panama Canal waterway and spend the day cruising between stunningly beautiful slices of nature.

This day trip includes a stop off at the famous Monkey Island, inhabited by incredibly sociable and friendly white-faced monkeys that’ll have no reservations at jumping into the boat to say hello! The beautifully diverse area is also the home of caimans, crocodiles, turtles and an astonishing array of tropical bird species.

Be sure to bring your camera along on this close-encounter day trip as it offers some truly unbeatable opportunities to see rare animals in their natural habitat.

Top rated tour : Monkey Island and Indian Village Tour

5. El Valle

El Valle, Panama

In only two hours, you can leave the waterways and coastal destinations of Panama City behind and ascend an enormous extinct volcano crater on your way to the mountain town of El Valle.

This quaint town is nestled within the crater itself and is home to gorgeous villas, colorful artisan markets and of course, breathtaking views.

With so much on offer, from thermal springs to hiking trails, you may be tempted to stay for longer than a day.

The hotel options here range from luxury to affordable, though if you plan an early departure from Panama City, you can have your fill of El Valle in the space of a day.

6. Lake Gatun

Lake Gatun, Panama

Once the largest artificial lake in the world, Lake Gatun was the first step to making the Panama Canal a reality.

Today, it is one of the most ecologically diverse areas in the whole of Central America and there are a number of tour operators who offer day trips to explore it.

Navigating your way by boat around ancient routes and tropical rainforests, you’ll have the chance to spot sloths, iguanas and crocodiles all living in harmony.

Be sure to try and arrange a stop off at the floating house in the middle of the huge body of water where you can eat, relax and learn about the lake’s history.

Suggested tour : From Panama City: 5-Hour Eco-Cruise on Gatun Lake

7. Portobelo

Portobelo, Panama

With everything from idyllic tropical beaches to UNESCO World Heritage sites, the port city of Portobelo is a gorgeous colonial outpost that was of great historical significance in its time.

The old fortifications provide a fascinating insight into the strategic importance of the city, while a stone’s throw away you’ll find stunningly beautiful beaches and islands like the postcard-perfect Isla Grande.

Enjoy mouthwatering seafood for incredibly reasonable prices and do your best to hang around for the unbeatable sunset.

Included in : Caribbean Adventure: Snorkel & Zip Line Tour in Panama

8. Camino Real

Camino Real, Panama

Nestled deep within the Chagres National Park, the Camino Real is an ancient pathway leading through the rainforest.

Begin your journey on the shores of Alajuela Lake and make the crossing at the start of a well-preserved section of the path.

Here you’ll begin a spellbinding hike through the jungle and gently rolling hillscapes, completely isolated from civilisation and breathtakingly beautiful in their entirety.

You’ll get the chance to see cobblestone sections of the old path and learn about its significance in the time of pirates and conquistadores.

As well as all of this, most tour operators will take you through indigenous villages to meet the people that have lived here for centuries.

Available tour : Camino Real – conquistadors, gold and pirates

9. Taboga Island

Taboga Island

An ex-haven for pirates in the colonial era, Taboga Island is now one of the most popular day trips from Panama City for locals and travelers alike.

Only a 30-minute ferry ride from the capital, it’s a gorgeous escape from city life, though be sure to pay a visit on a weekday to evade the weekend crowds.

Expect white sandy beaches, a quaint town and some stunning hiking routes.

The best of these is a hike up to El Cruce, which affords some of the best views on the island.

There’s also no shortage of mouthwatering seafood that can be found in any of the various restaurants.

10. Coronado

Coronado, Panama

Though the Caribbean coast has the reputation of being home to idyllic beach destinations, the Pacific Coast to the west of Panama City has a few gems of its own.

Coronado is a small beach resort city just over an hour away from the capital, which affords visitors the luxuries of carefree days on the beach whilst being close enough to civilisation to not feel isolated.

With beautiful white sand beaches and a thriving expat community, you can enjoy paradise here without breaking the bank.

11. Cerro Azul

Cerro Azul, Panama

Literally translating into “Blue Mountain”, the Cerro Azul is a wonderfully unique mountainous region on the outskirts of Panama City that offers a break from city life for those who don’t want to spend every day on the beach.

Characterised by spellbinding waterfalls, lakes and an abundance of world-class hiking trails, the Cerro Azul has an unmistakable tranquil quality that attracts visitors and locals all year round.

Be sure to pack accordingly as the temperature here is a lot cooler than on the coast.

12. Contadora Island

Contadora Island, Panama

Part of the Islas Perlas (“Pearl Islands”) that are all well worth a visit if you’re looking for postcard Caribbean beaches, Contadora Island is the most popular.

In under two hours, you can leave the skyscrapers of the capital behind and find yourself in the rugged allure of this beautiful archipelago.

With a fairly exclusive vibe, Contadora is the place for boutique hotels, world-class restaurants and of course, plenty of exploring the relatively untouched island.

13. Cajones de Chame

Cajones de Chame

The Cajones de Chame makes for a perfect combination of adventure and wild natural beauty, all within easy reach of Panama City.

The naturally formed river canyon is part of the Chame River and is made up of sections of scalable walls and cliffs that you can scramble around and dive off into the river.

A favourite amongst travelers looking for an adrenaline rush, as well as locals who come to spend the day in the gorgeous surroundings, the Cajones de Chame is growing in popularity by the day.

14. Playa Veracruz

Playa Veracruz, Panama

Playa Veracruz is one of Panama City’s nearby urban beach communities, not too far removed from the city but far enough to enjoy the open space that comes with beachfront destinations.

The beach itself is wide and sandy, perfect for taking a long stroll, and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from once you’ve worked up an appetite.

If you’re tired of the views of the Panama Canal, then Playa Veracruz is your best bet.

15. Laguna de San Carlos

Laguna De San Carlos

At 800 meters above sea level, the Laguna de San Carlos is a forgotten geological formation far removed from postcard beaches and waterfront cities.

The mountain lagoon is nestled in a valley and features crystal clear water that visitors like to kayak, swim and paddleboard in.

If you’re looking for a quiet day trip high up amongst the crisp mountain air and green valleys of Panama, then make the two-hour journey to the Laguna de San Carlos.

It is an unparalleled experience, first to be in the Panama Canal, then enjoy nature and contact with the diversity of flora and fauna. I recommend they do it, they will not regret it.

Jerin did a great job transporting us in his passenger van and in his tour boat. His narration was excellent. In addition, Jaren prepared a tasty picnic lunch for all of us on the tour. We highly recommend Panama Day Trips.

Highly recommend you take this tour. Monkey Island is one of the coolest experiences I've had anywhere in the world and it was equally enjoyable for both adults and children.

Enrique our tour guide was absolutely amazing. We had monkeys actually eat grapes out of our hands. It was also great to go back in history when visiting the fort and the Panama Canal. I definitely recommend this trip!

The day was outstanding. The trip was well paced and not strenuous. One member of our group went zip lining and enjoyed the experience. The company is attentive to every detail to enhance the guest's enjoyment.

This was my single best experience in Panama! I highly recommend this tour. We saw and touched a sloth (wow !!). This was phenomenal experience was made by our very patient and nature-centric tour guide.

Panama is compact enough that you can sample the rainforests, ocean and mountains in a single day © Joel Carillet / Getty Images

Panama City is a fast-paced urban dynamo that’s quickly becoming a Central American powerhouse.

The city’s spruced-up historic quarter of Casco Antiguo invites endless strolling while soaring skyscrapers overlook the Pacific and the so-called banking district is a hive of buzzing restaurants, luxury shopping malls and nightclubs. But with pristine nature and sunny beaches on your doorstep, why confine yourself to a busy city?

The isthmus is compact enough that you can sample the rainforests, ocean and mountains in a single day. The national parks in the Panama Canal watershed are alive with biodiversity – a marked contrast to the concrete jungles of the capital.

Breezy beaches pepper the coastline west of the city, offering respite from its relentless heat and grind. The Caribbean Coast, rich in tropical vegetation and buccaneering history, is just an hour away.

Here’s our guide to the best day trips from Panama City .

Brilliantly colored wild keel-billed toucan in Soberanía National Park of Gamboa, Panama

Encounter neotropical fauna at Soberanía National Park

Dense tracts of luxuriant rainforest consume the Panama Canal Watershed, draining the vast quantities of water needed for the canal’s day-to-day functioning. Parque Nacional Soberanía is one of several national parks within reach of the capital. Soberanía, in particular, is 27km (17 miles) from Panama City.

The central component of a biological corridor spans the entire isthmus from Panama City to Colón on the Caribbean coast. The 223-sq-km (86-sq-mile) tropical wonderland brims with nature. The park’s 17km-long Pipeline Trail (11 miles) is legendary among birdwatchers – 385 avian species were spotted here in a single day in 1985.

Around 1.6 km (1 mile) from the pipeline trailhead is the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center – an ecological education facility with buzzing hummingbird feeders and a 32m-high observation tower (172 steps) with superb views over the jungle canopy.

How to get there: Public transport to Soberanía National Park is infrequent and unreliable. It’s best to drive, go with a tour group or take a taxi. It takes less than 40 minutes to reach the park. Access the Pipeline Trail from the port of Gamboa on the banks of the Chagres River. To get there, follow Avenida Omar Torrijos, which runs parallel to the canal, to its conclusion.

Enjoy refreshing Pacific breezes on Taboga Island

Festooned with pink and purple bougainvillea, the Pacific retreat of Taboga—“the Island of Flowers”—was a favorite of the French artist Paul Gaugin, who nearly settled here in 1887. The best way to get here is to take a ferry.

Taboga has a hot, soporific, Mediterranean atmosphere where rambling streets and white-washed houses punctuate the tiny village.

The Iglesia de San Pedro on the main plaza is the second-oldest church in the western hemisphere. There are pleasant, though unspectacular, beaches on Taboga, like Playa Restinga, located about 150m (492ft) north of the main pier.

At low tide, a small spit of sand connects the beach to the Isla of El Morro . You can snorkel here or at caves on the other side of the island. A fisherman can take you for US$20 to $30.

Around a third of the island is a refuge for brown pelicans, and thousands nest in the hills from January to June. If you have the energy to hike, trails lead to the summits of Cerro Vigia and Cerro de la Cruz.

How to get there: Isla Taboga is located 20km (12 miles) offshore. Ferries depart several times a day from the Amador Causeway in Panama City.

Panama’s best islands: our guide to finding a piece of paradise

A group of young Panamenians performing the Congo dance in one of the Spanish fortresses (hence the cannons) of Portobelo by the Caribbean Sea, Panama, Central America

Learn Afro-Panamanian history in Portobelo

Nearly two hours from Panama City, Costa Arriba, located on the northeast side of the country, is a verdant stretch of Caribbean shoreline alive with African history and culture.

Its geographic and spiritual heart is the village of Portobelo . Sleepy most of the year, the tiny fishing town swells with activity during the Festival of the Black Christ (Festival del Cristo Negro). The event takes place on October 21 and draws around 50,000 pilgrims from all over the country and beyond. The festival honors a 1.5m-high Black Christ statue (5ft) found in the Iglesia de San Felipe.

Portobelo is also the site of the biannual Festival Diablos y Congos. The raucous and colorful celebration, held in late February or early March, mocks slavery while celebrating the emancipation of the enslaved. It’s a tradition that dates back hundreds of years.

To get there: Buses to Colón depart every 15 to 30 minutes from Panama City and cross the isthmus in about an hour. Colón experiences high crime rates and is usually unsafe for tourists. If you’re visiting Portobelo, you can skip the city entirely as eastbound buses connect with Portobelo via Sabanitas – ask the driver to let you out at the turning. The entire journey from Panama City to Portobelo takes around 2 to 3 hours by bus.

Fort San Lorenzo in Colon, Panama

Peek into the past with a visit to Fuerte San Lorenzo

About an hour-and-a-half drive north of Panama City is Fuerte San Lorenzo – one of the oldest and best-preserved Spanish fortifications in the Americas.

Perched on a clifftop promontory overlooking the Caribbean Sea, San Lorenzo was built to protect the Camino de Cruces. This transisthmian trade route connected Caribbean shipping lanes with Panama City via the Chagres River.

After exploring the fort, it’s about a 40-minute drive to the Gatún and Agua Clara locks on the Panama Canal. Head to the viewing stand at the Agua Clara Visitors Center to see the super big boys (think Titanic ) pass through the locks.

Getting there: Driving is the only way to get to San Lorenzo, and the Panama Canal locks of Gatún and Agua Clara. Take Rte 9 to get to San Lorenzo, and Puente Atlantico to reach the Agua Clara Visitor Center. There’s no public transport to San Lorenzo or the locks.

Enjoy the wildlife at Monumento Isla Barro Colorado

Shrouded in jungle, Gatún Lake is a 442-sq-km (171-sq-mile) fresh-water reservoir and an integral section of the Panama Canal . To create it, engineers constructed enormous dams that diverted the course of the Chagres River and reshaped the biogeography of central Panama.

The flood waters slowly submerged the forests, forcing animals to flee. Some reached higher ground, some drowned and others were stranded on an archipelago of newly formed islands.

The largest and most-visited island is Barro Colorado and home to a world-leading biological research station – the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) – since 1946.

The island’s tropical forests are one of the most intensively studied on the planet. A cavalcade of visiting researchers and students live on the island to gather data on local biodiversity. Day visits to Barro Colorado include a strenuous hike with a multi-lingual naturalist who explains the ecology of the forest and the history of the research center.

Getting there: Visits to Barro Colorado are strictly controlled. If possible, try to book several weeks in advance through the STRI website . Early morning boats to the island depart from the docks at Gamboa (about a 40-minute drive from Panama City) and return in the afternoon. The boat won’t wait if you’re late, and don’t turn up at the docks without a reservation. An entire trip takes from seven to nine hours.

The 10 best beaches in Panama for big swells and secluded escapes

Frolick on the beaches of the Pacific Coast

The Pacific Coast is the preferred getaway for Panama City weekenders. West of the capital, the string of low-key beach communities overlooking the ocean is ideal for recuperating.

Traveling west on the Pan-American Highway , the first place you should go is Punta Chame (not to be confused with the town of Chame) – a windswept peninsula with a desolate beach and a budding kite-surfing scene. From December to May, wind speeds average 15 to 25 knots, perfect for lift.

About 45 minutes from Punta Chame is Playa Coronado. A popular destination for ex-pats from Canada and the US, Playa Coronado has a golf course, resort and shopping mall.

A 20-minute drive on the Pan-American takes you to the surfing hubs of El Palmar and Río Mar.

Getting there: It’s about a two-hour drive from Panama City to Punta Chame on the Pan-American. You’ll pass the townships of Arraiján and La Chorrera before reaching the Pacific Coast. The turn to Punta Chame is just before Bejuco. If bussing, westbound services depart every few minutes from Albrook bus station – just holler when you pass your stop on the Pan-American. Note that some beaches are connected to the highway by a long access road, requiring a taxi.

Ultimate San Blas Dreams Tour – Honest Review

T he San Blas Islands, part of the autonomous Guna Yala territory, are located on the northern side of central Panama, about a two and a half hour drive from Panama City. They are most well known for its relaxing white sand beaches and pristine turquoise waters. In reality it is an escape from your daily life where you can just enjoy the company of your friends and loved ones.

There are many different companies that offer tours from Panama City ranging from day tours to 4+ nights on the islands. Due to the drive and boat time to get to San Blas we recommend 2 nights and 3 days to really have enough time to relax and enjoy.

After researching the different companies we chose San Blas Dreams which we found to offer the most complete tour option. The 3 day/2 night tour cost $340 per person for a private cabin including round trip transportation, accomodations, daily boat tours to multiple islands, all meals from lunch on the first day to lunch on the last day, and a late check out on the last day.

We did review cheaper tours, but many did not include meals or day tours in their prices and would require us to plan the rest on our own, and probably costing us the same in the end.

Read This Before Visiting The San Blas Islands

San blas packing list, 3-day/ 2-night san blas island hopping tour, day 1: panama city to san blas islands, day 2: san blas island hopping, day 3: isla aroma & return to panama city.

The San Blas Islands offer a pristine beach oasis, but do not visit San Blas expecting a a luxury experience. The infrastructure, rooms, and meal offerings are simple. You will find most cabins have sand floors, limited electricity, and only adequate bedding. But don’t let that deter you from visiting the San Blas Islands, we only want to put your expectations in line.

However the local community who work on the islands do their best to provide an outstanding service and are so welcoming.

When booking a tour with San Blas Dreams there is the option of booking a Shared Cabin or Private Cabin, all with the same shared bathrooms. We opted for the private cabin for only $20 more per person to ensure some privacy and space to our own. Visiting in early December we saw the people who booked a shared cabin with anywhere from 4-12 beds actually had the space to themselves, but do not bet on this.

The bathroom facilities consisted of separate simple toilets, some of which you had to manually fill the back of to flush, and even simpler showers without heated water, only the sun warming it in the cistern.

There are two items that you simply cannot forget to pack when visiting San Blas, that is your original passport and a $23 in cash for the tourist entry tax & port fees. Without this you can’t even enter in the Guna Yala territory. Besides that, we recommend packing as little as possible, as you will potential need to transfer your bag several times throughout the day on and off boats.

It is important to remember that whatever bag you use can get wet on the boats. At the same time anything that does get wet will not dry very well in the humid climate, and of course there will simply be sand everywhere and on everything.

3-day/ 2-night San Blas Packing List:

• $23 cash for tourist tax + additional spending money (small bills are preferred)

• 3 shirts (at least 1 long sleeve)

• 2 bathing suits

• A pair of shorts

• Light pajamas

• Flip flops or beach shoes

• Snorkel gear

• Underwater camera

• Portable battery pack

• A quick dry towel

• Coral reef safe sunscreen

• Sunglasses

• Drinking water

• Any other specific drinks

While it is recommended to bring drinking water and any other specific drinks or snacks you would like, it is possible to purchase drinks such as beer, rum, water, or soda on the island for $1-$2 each which helps supports the local community further.

We booked a 3-day, 2-night San Blas island hopping tour with San Blas Dreams which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, lodging (both nights on different islands), transportation from Panama City, and two daily visits to different islands or natural pools.

They also offer many different tour route options through the San Blas Islands, if there is a specific island you want to make sure to visit. The island hopping tour did mean we had to pack up and check out of the accommodations each day, but we felt it allowed us to visit a wider range of islands. At the same time we only packed a small backpack each and left the rest of our luggage in Panama City.

The tour begins bright and early with a pickup from our hotel in Panama City around 5:30AM. The SUV holds a total of 6 passengers, which can be a bit tight depending on how much luggage everyone brings. Luckily everyone brought just a small bag and the ride was not too uncomfortable.

The drive north from Panama City took three hours to the port. This includes a stop at a gas station for breakfast and the opportunity to buy any last minute snacks or supplies. We recommend getting anything you want the day before as the options here are limited and more expensive, as every tour company stops at the same gas station.

After breakfast we continued on to passport control entering the Guna Yala territory, where you also pay the tourist tax. Our driver collected this at the gas station to speed up the process. For the drop off at the dock, we went to different locations depending on what tour and islands each person was visiting.

Our first stop was Isla Nugnudub where we had two hours to enjoy the island. There are several hammocks a few steps out into the water which make for a beautiful photo spot and a great place to relax.

While a trip to San Blas is all about relaxing and enjoying the pristine water, with only a few hammocks available, remember there might be other visitors as well who want to take advantage of the facilities. Half the islands we visited were packed and the other half only had a few couples, so it can really vary.

Around noon we were picked up by boat again to go to the Piscina Natural sandbar, were there is the potential to see starfish, depending on the season. Visitors touching the starfish and removing them from the water has harmed the local population. At the same time, with higher seasonal winds and water currents when we visited, the starfish get blown to the edge of the sandbars, where they are much harder to see.

We unfortunately did not see any starfish at this spot but did enjoy walking around the crystal clear blue water that only went up to our knees.

We then continued on to the next island, where we would be spending the night, Ariyaladub or more famously called Isla Iguana . When we arrived they took our order for lunch, which throughout the tour we found the options for lunch and dinner to be chicken or fish (or simply more carbs for the vegetarian option).

After lunch we had the chance to settle into our cabin and enjoy the afternoon on the beach. Right in front of our cabin was a hammock at the edge of the water, that unfortunately fell over halfway through the afternoon. This is a good example of how not to expect a 5 star experience while the locals are doing their best to provide an amazing experience. There were several other swings around the island which were quite fun.

Once we we done watching a breathtaking sunset over the water we were called to dinner with a seashell horn with the same option of chicken or fish. After dinner it was already dark and we just went back to our cabin to sleep after a long day in the sun.

We woke up really early in hopes of a nice sunrise, but without one we went back to bed until 8AM, as we had to pack our bags before breakfast and wanted to get some more photos around the little island. The local family who lived on the island had also set up a little souvenir shop with a nice range of options to choose from and support the community further.

Breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, a slice of cheese, and a fried bread which was tasty but not too filling overall. We had some of the chips we brought along to accompany our breakfast as well.

We were told to be ready earlier, but the boat transfer picked us up around 9:30AM to take us to the next island. Since most visitors are on a different tour itinerary or different day of the tour, the boats would often drop off or pick up people on other islands along the way. This meant the exact pick up times were loose, but you definitely don’t want the whole boat waiting on you when it is time to go.

Our first stop of the day was Isla Perro Grande , the largest of the islands that we visited and by far the busiest. Every single seat was taken during our stay along with almost every spot in the shade around the island. It is an amazing island with a vast stretch of white sand beach on one side of the island, with limited sandy beach around the rest of it.

On the way to the next island we stopped at a different Piscina Natural than the first day in search of starfish. While most guests had no hope to see starfish based on the season, and just went to have a party in the water, we did actually find a few starfish in the seagrass right off the sandbar. We quickly grabbed our underwater camera to get some pictures snorkeling.

Then we continued over to Isla Perro Chico for lunch and some free time at the beach. After another meal of fish and french fries we couldn’t wait to get back in the water. On this island almost the entire circumference had a wide sandy beach, letting us find our own quiet space and of course take a hundred more photos.

After two hours on the island, we made our final boat transfer of the day to Isla Aroma a larger but less visited island, where we would be spending the night. We had the entire afternoon until after sunset to just relax in the many secluded spots. We actually found out the island is such a good example of San Blas, that Windstar cruises actually rents it out for its cruise.

Once it got dark it was time for dinner of, you might of already guessed, more fish and french fries. Before meals on several of the islands they did have the option to upgrade to a fresh caught seafood dish depending on if the fishermen found anything that day.

The third day we spent the morning on Isla Aroma . The tour includes a late check out after lunch, but there are no set activities in the morning. The people on the island were wonderful and they sold us a tour to the natural pool and a nearby coral reef for only $5 per person. The truth is that it was magical as we had the entire area to ourselves. There were a few other guests on the island as well, but it felt like we were alone on our own oasis.

For us, Isla Aroma was the best out of all the islands on the 3-day/ 2-night San Blas tour thanks to its beautiful sandy beach and quiet atmosphere.

After lunch we were picked up for a 30 minute boat transfer back to the port, where we were met by the transfer car back to Panama City . We were dropped of back at hour hotel around 7PM to finish up an amazing and tiring 3-day/ 2-night San Blas Island Hopping Tour.
