A terrifying chase was glimpsed in a video captured by tourists in a safari vehicle at Ranthambore National Park , Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan. A tigress identified as Sultana was in hot pursuit of an open-top vehicle as she leapt in and out of foliage, keeping up with the tourists all the while.

Toward the end of the footage, the driver was seen reversing the direction of the vehicle, which did not deter Sultana. According to reports , this may actually have encouraged her to chase the vehicle even faster.

Alpha predators like lions and tigers may never bother attacking an individual human, as they typically don’t see humans as a threat. However, the sight of a large, swift and noisy vehicle can change that.

They often display characteristics to make themselves look larger, or more capable of handling the threat, causing them to chase and sometimes even confront vehicles.

This isn’t the first time such an incident has been captured on video. While it is a terrifying prospect for tourists, the presence of vehicles are also known to be a cause of curiosity , and sometimes even playfulness , for these territorial animals.

Here are some videos that exemplify this curiosity, while terrifying tourists.

Tigress Sultana ran after tourist safari jeep in Ranthambore

In a viral video, tigress Sultana T107 is seen running behind tourist vehicles during Ranthambore Tiger Safari. Tourists in Ranthambore National Park were in shock on the morning of January 2, 2022, when the famous tigress T-107 alias Sultana chased a safari jeep in Zone 1.

A mobile video clip of tigress T107 allegedly chasing gypsies has gone viral on social media. In the viral video, the tigress can be seen approaching jeeps at a crossroads in Zone 1 of Ranthambore. Then suddenly the tigress runs towards a jeep.

The incident took place on Sunday morning during a jungle safari around Singhdwar in Zone 1. The tigress Sultana ran after two jeeps full of tourists. The driver ran a gypsy in back gear and saved the tourists.

Though the tigress did not attack the occupants of the safari jeep, it was a moment of panic among tourists going on a jungle safari in Ranthambore.

According to the information, the tigress Sultana was seen during the jungle safari near Singhdwar in Zone 1 in the morning shift. Tourist vehicles gathered to see the tigress. Then the tigress got agitated and started running after two gypsies (safari Jeeps). After running behind the jeeps for a while, the tigress stopped.

In such a situation, the gypsy drivers ran the gypsy in reverse gear for about 30 meters, distanced themselves from the tigress and saved the tourists. Suddenly, seeing the tigress coming towards them, the tourists in both the gypsies stopped breathing once.

As a precaution from the Forest Department, Zone 1 has been closed for tourism till further orders. At present, monitoring is being done by the Forest Department to study the behavior of the tigress. The Forest Department has also installed cameras at many places in Zone 1 for continuous monitoring of the tigress.

Sultana, the tigress who ran behind safari vehicles in Zone 1 of Ranthambore, had hunted a dog near tourist vehicles six days ago. Its video is becoming very viral on social media.

Sultana has run behind vehicles in the past too

This is not the first time in Ranthambore National Park that the tigress Sultana has charged tourist vehicles. She has done this twice before. In the past, the tigress Sultana ran alongside the canter. Once she had put her paws on the back of the jeep.

Recently, on 24 November 2021, Tigress Sultana aka T 107 had also chased 2 forest guard patrolling the bike for some distance. However, even after this, Zone 1 was closed for tourists. About a week ago, Tigress Sultana had hunted a dog among tourists' gypsies.

Wildlife experts believe that the tigress Sultana may have a natural tendency to chase safari vehicles, as it has never attacked a human till date. Biologist Dharmendra Khandal said, "The Territory of Tigress Sultana is in Zone 1 of Ranthambore National Park. The movement of the tigress is recorded near human settlements including Ranthambore Fort, Ganesh Temple Road and Jhumar Baori area, but this tigress has never attacked a human.

Ramnagar is an area near Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand. The park is said to have over 200 tigers and is known for its tiger safari among tourists.

After looking at the incident that was captured in the viral video by a tourist, movement in this area has been completely stopped to avoid any misfortune or accident.

This video was shared by Indian Forest Service official Susanta Nanda on his Twitter account. It has by far garnered 47.8K views and 953 likes. While posting the video, Susanta explained that the striped monk, aka tiger, was irritated and hence behaved in the manner seen.

Is this the purpose of National Parks? If I remember correctly PM Indira Gandhi refused permission for safaris in Similipal. National parks have turned into open air commercial zoos. — Amarendra Samantaray (@amarendractc191) April 27, 2023

He asked people what they would do if someone crashed into their house at any designated hour, just like humans walk into the forest to spot tigers.

Many people in the comments section came up with various suggestions, like charging premium fees for jungle safaris and more.

Entry/crossing through wildlife sanctuaries must be at a premium fee. It will at least discourage many. The issue is also that the Government is not as keen to protect the fragile habitat as much as they are in expanding infrastructure, including laying roads through forests. — Ganesh R 🇮🇳 (@greatganesh) April 27, 2023

Tiger chases tourist vehicle inside Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, video goes viral - Watch here

The 19-second clip shows a tiger chasing a tourist vehicle inside the tadoba andhari tiger reserve.

Screengrab from YouTube video

A video has gone viral on social media that shows a tiger chasing a tourist vehicle inside the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra.

In the 19-second clip, the tiger can be seen chasing a Maruti Gypsy which was carrying at least two passengers.

The tiger spots the vehicle crossing its territory and starts chasing it immediately.

Some of the passengers can be heard panicking when the tiger runs after the vehicle in full speed.

Watch the video here:

The incident comes just 3 days after the Maharashtra government constituted a four-member committee, comprising wildlife experts and officials, to conduct an "in-depth" probe into the killing of tigress Avni.

The state government has come under fire over the death of the tigress, who was believed to have turned a man-eater and killed 13 people in the last two years in Yavatmal district. The big cat was shot dead in an operation in a forest in Yavatmal district last Friday.

Animal rights activists have condoned the manner in which the forest department declared Avni a ‘man-eater’ and hunted her down instead of trying to capture her alive.

An official statement issued by the forest department stated that the committee has been formed on the directions of Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar to conduct an "in-depth" inquiry into the death of the tigress. The committee is headed by Principal Chief Conservator of Forest S H Patil.
