Metallica to Stream Two Nights of “M72 World Tour” in Cinemas Worldwide

Metallica

Metallica – Story by Cat Badra, photo by Tim Saccenti

Metallica will stream the Arlington, Texas, dates of their “M72 World Tour” in cinemas worldwide this August

The metal men of Metallica premiered their new album, “72 Seasons,” in theaters worldwide Thursday (April 13) with their “Metallica: 72 Seasons – Global Premiere” worldwide listening party . Now, they’re already gearing up for another big cinema event.

Metallica’s “M72 World Tour” will reach the big screen as they stream their performance live from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in cinemas worldwide this summer. Specifically, the two-night event will play on Friday, August 18, and Sunday, August 20.

The showing, called “Metallica: M72 World Tour Live From Arlington, TX – A Two Night Event,” will feature the band playing two nights with two totally different setlists. That’s exactly how the band is doing their “M72 World Tour.” The setlist will feature songs coming from the group’s entire career, from their seminal 1983’s “Kill ‘Em All” to the just-released “72 Seasons.” Expect more than 30 songs across both nights. The tour and cinema event will also see Metallica performing in a new in-the-round stage design that brings their Snake Pit to center stage. That will give audience members a 360-degree view.

“We feel like we are a part of the Metallica family now that we are doing our third release together,” Kymberli Frueh, SVP programming and content acquisitions at Trafalgar Releasing, said in a statement. Frueh is referring to the “72 Seasons Global Premiere” and “S&M²” as the other two cinema events.

“Since Metallica is touring in very limited markets this year, we are so happy that we can extend that tour into cinemas across the globe,” Frueh added. “The cinemas create a virtual tour stop for fans in thousands of locations where Metallica isn’t touring this year. What better way to create a VIP experience with every seat in the cinema feeling as if you are in the front row of the concert.”

The ticket on-sale date for “Metallica: M72 World Tour Live From Arlington, TX – A Two Night Event” will be announced later, according to a statement. For more information on the cinema showings, head to Metallica.film .

"M72" , named after "72 Seasons" , sees METALLICA playing two-night stands in cities around the world this year and through 2024, with "takeover" events taking place during weekends in the New York City area, Montreal, Dallas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, St. Louis and Detroit. Those events include film fests, pop-up stores, Ross Halfin book signings, tribute bands, special performances by friends and family, and more.

METALLICA 's "M72" world tour launched in late April in Amsterdam. Each "No Repeat Weekend" features two completely different setlists and support lineups. The "M72" tour boasts a bold new in-the-round stage design that relocates the famed METALLICA Snake Pit to center stage, as well as the "I Disappear" full-tour pass and the debut of discounted tickets for fans under 16 years of age.

METALLICA 's two-night stand at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas later this month will be livestreamed to movie theaters across the globe.

It will mark METALLICA 's first appearance in Texas since November 2021, when the band played before, during and after a Triad Combat event at Globe Life Field.

METALLICA last played AT&T Stadium in June 2017.

Hailed as "some of the deepest, hardest-hitting music of their career" ( Rolling Stone ), METALLICA 's "72 Seasons" was released April 14 via the band's own Blackened Recordings . Produced by Greg Fidelman with frontman James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich , and clocking in at over 77 minutes, the 12-track "72 Seasons" is METALLICA 's first full length collection of new material since 2016's "Hardwired… To Self-Destruct" .

Formed in 1981 by Hetfield and Ulrich , METALLICA has become one of the most influential and successful rock bands in history, selling nearly 120 million albums worldwide and generating more than 15 billion streams while playing to millions of fans on all seven continents. METALLICA 's catalog of multi-platinum studio albums includes "Kill 'Em All" , "Ride The Lightning" , "Master Of Puppets" , "… And Justice For All" , "Metallica" (commonly referred to as The Black Album), "Load" , "Reload" , "St. Anger" , "Death Magnetic" , "Hardwired… To Self-Destruct" and "72 Seasons" . METALLICA 's awards and accolades include nine Grammy Awards , two American Music Awards , multiple MTV Video Music Awards , a 2009 induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame , and Sweden's Polar Music Prize . In 2017, METALLICA established the All Within My Hands foundation to give back to communities that have supported the band. To date, All Within My Hands ' collective efforts have raised nearly $12 million — providing $5.9 million in grants to career and technical education programs, over $2.5 million to combat food in security, and more than $3.3 million to disaster relief efforts.

Slayer guitarist Kerry King’s solo band made their live debut last night (May 8) at Reggies in Chicago, Illinois.

The guitarist – joined by vocalist Mark Osegueda (Death Angel), co-guitarist Phil Demmel (ex- Machine Head ), bassist Kyle Sanders (ex-Hellyeah) and drummer Paul Bostaph (Slayer) – played a 17-song set mixing Slayer covers with material from King’s upcoming debut album From Hell I Rise .

See the full setlist below.

The covers of King’s seminal thrash band played on the night were Repentless (from the 2015 album of the same name), Hate Worldwide ( World Painted Blood , 2009), Chemical Warfare ( Haunting The Chapel , 1984), Disciple ( God Hates Us All , 2001), Raining Blood ( Reign In Blood , 1986) and Black Magic ( Show No Mercy , 1983).

Watch live footage of Raining Blood and Black Magic via the video players below.

In a new interview with Metal Hammer , King explained his choices when it came to which Slayer songs to cover with his solo band.

“For this coming summer in Europe we’re gonna do like nine or 10 tracks from the album and depending on set length fill it with stuff I’ve done – something I wrote in Slayer or co-wrote," he said.

“So nobody can say ‘he’s playing Jeff [Hanneman, late Slayer guitarist] songs!’ because although I love Jeff songs and he was such a big part of my life, I don’t want to rely on it this year, this album cycle.

“At some point, I will play Angel Of Death but there’s so many fucking faceless haters on the internet I don’t want to give them ammunition.”

King is also active in the reunited Slayer, who came back after five years apart earlier this year to play a handful of US festival dates.

Talking exclusively in this month’s issue of Metal Hammer , where he is the cover star, King revealed the Slayer return won’t lead to new music or extensive touring.

“For me, it's three shows marking five years since our final shows, a fun, ‘Hey, remember us from before the pandemic?' celebration,” he said.

King will release From Hell I Rise on May 17 via Reigning Phoenix Music.

CBS SF talks to Slayer guitarist Kerry King about his new band's debut album, upcoming tour

By Eddie Jorgensen

May 9, 2024 / 7:21 AM PDT / CBS San Francisco

For the uninitiated, Slayer's co-founding guitarist Kerry King has been at the forefront of thrash metal for almost four decades. With a style that encapsulates the finer moments of thrash, punk and metal, King's songs have been the soundtrack to many head-banging youths with such song staples as "Mandatory Suicide," "Hell Awaits," and "Raining Blood."

As the debut his new band's latest single "Idle Hands" proved, longtime Slayer fans didn't have to worry if the guitarist softened since Slayer's farewell tour back in November 2019. Said Kerry -- who ceremoniously left his trademark chains behind as he walked offstage at the last Slayer gig -- "I knew early on that I wasn't done, and I had no intention of not continuing to play."

Kerry King

With principle tracks recorded at Henson Studios in Los Angeles over the course of only two weeks, From Hell I Rise  was finished shortly thereafter. Featuring 13 blistering tracks including standouts "Crucifixation," "Toxic," "Residue," and the highly infectious "Tension," there isn't a dud to be found. And with song structures and topics that could only come from Slayer's axeman, this soundtrack to the apocalypse -- available on all formats on May 17th Reigning Phoenix Music -- is sure to incite riotous behavior and circle pits wherever the band performs.

Much more than a side project, Kerry King -- both the band and the man -- are on a mission and putting the group at the forefront of all conversations. While Slayer may have announced reunion appearances at a trio of festivals in the fall (including one at Aftershock 2024 in Sacramento ), King and his new band will be on the road as much as humanly possible. Started well before the pandemic, King has been a writing machine and, perhaps, even more prolific than during his full-time Slayer tenure.

And while there is much chatter going on about Slayer returning this year, From Hell I Rise  showcases one helluva line-up and is much more than a distraction from current events. Featuring some of Bay Area's best including longtime Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph (who also once played in Forbidden), guitarist Phil Demmel (formerly with Vio-Lence and Machine Head, who is also a member of the recently unveiled supergroup Category 7 featuring Armored Saint and former Anthrax frontman John Bush), and Death Angel vocalist Mark Osegueda along with bassist Kyle Sanders (Hellyeah), there is more than enough firepower to appease even the most devout Slayer fan.

As luck would have it, the band will be supporting Lamb Of God and Mastodon on a stateside trek dubbed the "Ashes of Leviathan Tour" that sees them crisscrossing the U.S. starting July 19th in Grand Prairie, TX and then ultimately ending in La Vista, Nebraska at the close of August.

CBS SF:  Just finally listened to the new album as a whole and it's a great listen from top to bottom. How long have these songs been ruminating? Were any of these riffs meant for Slayer originally?

Kerry King: There are two complete songs on this album that were left over from 'Repentless' and they were even done lyrically then, but I wasn't thrilled with how they turned out. I put them back in my pocket until the next Slayer record, but there never was a next record, so that became part of my new record.  Some of these riffs, like the main body of 'Residue,' is probably over 20 years old. I could never find the parts to finish it. This time I was able to. It's one of those songs that I always knew I wanted to use, but didn't want to put it out prematurely. There's tons of stuff I wrote since Slayer was done. There's also tons of stuff I wrote since 'From Hell I Arise' was done, so record number two is shaping up nicely as well.

CBS SF:  Your band features a veritable who's who of the Bay Area metal scene. Why that area in particular?

Kerry King: I didn't think of it like that, but that's just how it panned out. I've known these guys -- especially, everybody from the Bay Area -- for decades.  All of them except Mark [Osegueda] needed work. Certainly Paul and I were out of work. Phil Demmel was also out of work, but he put his name in the hat very early and worked with us doing demos off and on. Every five or six weeks, he'd come down to play and we'd sound better.

Using the demos we had, Phil would send new ideas whenever had new material. Phil's an incredible player and Mark's one of the best singers in thrash metal, without question. The pulse of thrash definitely comes from there. We were a little displaced because we were in Southern California, but at the end of the day, so was Metallica.

I met Kyle in 2015 on the Mayhem Tour and we became friends very quickly. I knew that if I ever wanted a bassist, that's who I'd be calling. He's my East Coast connection. Paul's been working with me on and off since the early 90's, so the talent and the friendship is there. I'm happy I could help the guys out when they didn't have work. Right now, I get to go forward and show everybody what we got.

CBS SF: A full U.S. tour is already on the books. Do you plan to stay as busy with the KKB in 2025?

Kerry King: Absolutely. I would like to get something filled up between October and December 2024, but if the promoters think that's too early, then it will be soon after the New Year as business picks up again. Five weeks in Europe is very short for any kind of tour, be it festivals, or whatever. We want to go back and do a proper headline tour over there. We'll probably come to the States and do a proper headline tour or shift gears and put our other record out. We will be busy for sure.

CBS SF:  Do you prefer festivals over headlining dates?

Kerry King: That's difficult. I like both. If I had my choice, I would probably say a headlining date.  When you're doing festivals, you're just a pawn in a sea of bands that are there to entertain a mass of people, so there's too many cooks in the kitchen, so to speak.

CBS SF:  Any songs that didn't make the record?

Kerry King: Absolutely.  Within three months of Paul and I getting together, we had so many songs.  I said, "Hey dude, let's shift gears and finish the ones I've already got lyrics or titles for, or just songs making this record, so we aren't spinning our wheels and getting burned out." Before we called those songs, we made demos of them however far along they were at that point, and those are ones I'm going to readdress when I start working on stuff again. Actually, when I finally go on tour, during days off I'm going to really try to finish lyrics and stuff. When I come home and when the tour cycle is over, we can go right back in the studio and get more music out.

CBS SF:  Why no Bay Area show scheduled so far? Seems like your biggest market aside from Los Angeles and New York.

Kerry King: I'll bet that Lamb of God has played the Bay Area recently. There's no New York City show either, so I'm assuming Lamb of God had shows there awhile ago as well. We're playing the sheds in some B & C markets, but when we come back we'll be hitting the other places.

CBS SF:  What are your earliest memories of touring alongside Mark Osegueda previous to joining the band? What about Phil Demmel?

Kerry King: My earliest memories are all gone, because that was probably 40 years ago. I've known Mark since he was a teenager singing in Death Angel. I remember them opening for us because Mark always reminds me he did when he was not even 18 years old and still a kid. Beyond that, Death Angel did an opening run for us in around 2016 or 2017. Before that, it was basically different circles.

As far as Phil goes, I knew Phil in Vio-Lence, but really I don't remember that period either. We'd already toured with Machine Head lots and unless we were playing the same festivals and we turned up at the same place, I would never see him. However, every time if I was off and he came through or he was off and I came through, we'd hang to talk music and stuff.

CBS SF:  Have you worked with anyone else outside of your band that has music recorded for possible release someday?

Kerry King: No. This isn't a solo project. Kerry King [the band] happens to have my name on it. This is my band and will be until we decide no longer to be one. Hopefully, that's when we're all done and want to hang it up to go sit on our porch and watch a bucket of grass grow. These are my guys now, so get used to them.

The first Monday of  May is here, which means that it's officially time for the 2024 Met Gala. We've compiled everything you need to know about the event, including who will be in attendance and where to watch a free Met Gala red carpet live stream.

Hosted annually by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and a slew of high-ranking cultural figures, the Met Gala has become one of the season's glitziest and most exclusive events, often referred to as the Fashion Oscars. Tickets to the event reportedly go for about $30,000 a piece, and that's only after you've been invited by Wintour.

This year's theme is "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" with a "The Garden of Time" dress code. Attendees dress to impress and often interpret the themed dress code in creative ways. Memorable past themes include 2018's "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" and 2019's "Camp: Notes on Fashion," both of which received their fair share of criticism and attention.

We've got you covered if you're hoping to catch a glimpse of the Met Gala. Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about tuning in. Plus, we have details on who you can expect to see tonight (and which global pop star might be missing).

Where to watch the Met Gala in the US

The Met Gala will live stream exclusively through Vogue. Starting at 6 p.m. ET, the fashion magazine will stream the red-carpet arrivals. You can catch the live stream through Vogue's YouTube and TikTok accounts, as well as through the publication's website itself. The red carpet typically lasts for several hours (with most guests arriving by 8 p.m. ET, but some A-listers get there even later). No live streams or public coverage are available for the famously secretive event itself, which is held inside the Met.

Gwendoline Christine, La La Anthony, and Ashley Graham will host this year's live stream. Influencer-turned-coffee-mogul Emma Chamberlain will return as Vogue's special correspondent, who will be tasked with interviewing the celebs as they arrive.

E! will also be covering the event starting at 6 p.m. ET. Ross Mathews will conduct interviews for the network. If you don't have cable, you can live stream E! via live TV packages like Sling TV and Hulu + Live TV. For Sling TV you'll need to select Sling Blue to access E!, which is available for $40 a month (with $20 off your first month). Hulu + Live TV costs $76.99 a month and comes with a three-day free trial. Plus, you'll get Disney+, ESPN+, and regular Hulu bundled in.

Where to watch the Met Gala in the UK

Vogue's website, YouTube, and TikTok will also be your live streaming answer in several other countries, including the UK. It will be a bit later in England, but the bulk of the action is expected to take place from 11 p.m. BST to 1 a.m. BST (6 p.m. ET to 8 p.m. ET), so you can probably catch the action before bed.

How to watch the Met Gala from anywhere

You should be able to access these live streams from anywhere, but if you're traveling and, for some reason, unable to access these options, you can always try setting a VPN to a US location and streaming it that way. Our go-to pick is ExpressVPN , a beginner-friendly option with a 30-day money-back guarantee. You can check out our ExpressVPN review for full details.

Will Taylor Swift be at the Met Gala?

People are very curious as to whether Taylor Swift will make an appearance at the Met Gala. Previously a frequent flyer at the event, Swift hasn't attended since the semi-infamous 2016 gala. While conflicting reports have emerged on Swift's possible 2024 attendance, People reports that they've confirmed that Swift won't attend this year. This would have been a tight fit, considering that the European leg of the Eras Tour picks up on May 9 in France.

Who will be at the Met Gala?

While Swift likely won't be there, several other A-listers will be in attendance. In addition to Anna Wintour, Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, and Bad Bunny will co-chair the evening. Other potential attendees could be hosts and sponsors, including Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew. While the guest list is famously kept tightly under wraps, you can usually expect to see at least a few members of the Kardashian-Jenner family. Rihanna is also a frequent attendee.

Welcome to Rockville is underway in Daytona Beach and diehard fans are loving it

metallica tour live stream

Are you ready to rock?

The first clamorous chords of Welcome to Rockville 2024 will fill the hot, humid air Thursday on the infield at Daytona International Speedway.

By the numbers, it’ll be the biggest Rockville ever: 150 bands on five stages over four days.

A record 200,000 fans are expected throughout the weekend, according to Los Angeles-based promoter Danny Wimmer Presents. Hard-rocking News-Journal staffers will be among them.

So check back often for observations about the scene on the infield, interviews with fans and a look at the array of non-musical diversions, among other dispatches from the heart of Rockville in Daytona Beach.

Rockville bands that you can't miss

With more than 150 bands taking the stage over the next four days, how do you decide who to watch? Our resident metal head and sports editor, Ryan Pritt, did the homework. Here’s his take on the top 10 must see artists coming to Welcome to Rockville.

How much is the food at Welcome to Rockville?

Previously, we took a look at the prices for beverages at Welcome to Rockville.

But a heavy-metal fan also needs to eat, so here's what we found at one of the food tents.

There is a WIDE variety of quesadillas available for $18 each.

How wide? Here's the list:

Cheese, chicken, steak, pulled pork, Buffalo chicken, Chipotle chicken or Buffalo ranch.

There are also more than a dozen varieties of fresh-cut fries, ranging from $14-$25.

I've talked with some folks who are unhappy about the food prices, but Judas Priest super-fan Jimm Colarusso, of Daytona Beach, isn't among them.

"It seems about typical for what you'd see at a festival," he said.

Diehard Welcome to Rockville fan brings laughs with inflatable rooster suit

Although black is the dominant color, there's no shortage of fashion statements among the Rockville faithful.

For Chris Miller, of Jacksonville, the appropriate ensemble included a super-sized inflatable rooster.

"It's a play on words," he said of the battery-operated suit. "The idea is to keep people laughing more than anything."

Miller, whose weekend wardrobe also includes inflatable dragon and dinosaur, was rocking out to Austin, Texas-based Amigo the Devil's banjo-powered hybrid of rock and roots.

"These guys are fantastic," said Miller, 43, who has never missed a Rockville since its inception more than a decade ago in Jacksonville.

He's camping on-site for this year's four-day event.

"It's a really nice set-up," he said as the rooster nodded in agreement.

Rockville parking, allowed items, ticket info: What else should you know?

If you’re heading to the event this weekend and you still have questions, we put all the logistical details – from parking and reentry to accepted forms of payment and what you can bring on the grounds – all in one spot: Everything you need to know about Welcome to Rockville 2024.

Who else is playing at Rockville this year?

With more than 150 bands slated to play over the next four days, The News-Journal reached out to some of the headliners for one-on-one conversations prior to the show.

And don’t forget Palm Coast’s very own Rain City Drive:

For Palm Coast’s Rain City Drive, Welcome to Rockville show is ‘bucket-list experience’

For Palm Bay fan, 'It's straight-up Limp Bizkit'

Clifford Ford, of Palm Bay, is another Rockville diehard, who arrived in distinctive tropical attire.

Although he looks like he's bound for Margaritaville, Ford is a bona fide metal head.

A few years back, he was all about Metallica. This year, the focus is different.

"It's straight-up Limp Bizkit," he said. "They are my childhood, my teenage years. I can't wait to see them."

A supermarket employee, Ford, 43, returns to Rockville for the sense of community.

"Straight up, it's the atmosphere. Everyone is like family here.

"If you're down when you get here, the people will bring you up. You can feel the energy from the crowd and know this is home."

Rockville 2024 tickets. Are they still available?

Some VIP and general admission tickets are still available. The weekend general admission four-pack has already sold out, according to the event website. If you’re looking to grab a last-minute ticket to the festival, click here .

Traffic delays expected around Daytona airport during Rockville

As thousands of rock fans take over the Speedway and surrounding streets during the Welcome to Rockville weekend, Daytona Beach International Airport officials are warning those arriving or departing the airport about traffic delays.

"People arriving at Daytona Beach International Airport for departing flights or picking up passengers — especially after 9 p.m. — should allow for extra time, as there will be significant traffic in the area," said airport spokeswoman Joanne Magley in a press release Thursday afternoon. "Travelers should avoid International Speedway Boulevard and Williamson Boulevard and instead enter the airport off Clyde Morris Boulevard."

Magley also mentioned that "concert parking is prohibited at the airport."

Longtime Daytona Beach resident a 'big Judas Priest fan'

One look at Jimm Colarusso's wardrobe and there's no doubt what band he came to see.

"I'm a big Judas Priest fan," said Colarusso, 53, a lifelong Daytona Beach resident.

That's evident from the dozens of band patches on the front and back of his black denim jacket.

On the back, the display includes 25 Judas Priest album covers, arranged in neat rows.

"I must have spent two days sewing all these patches on," said Colarusso, who is attending his first Rockville.

It's not his first concert at the Speedway, where he recalls seeing Blue Oyster Cult and Twisted Sister on the infield about 20 years ago during Bike Week.

Grabbing some shade under one of the midway tents, he thinks that it's too early in the year for temps in the 90s.

"It's a little bit warmer than it usually is," he said. "This feels more like June or July."

Artificial turf near Inferno stage cooling things down

There was a new wrinkle for fans watching the noon set by Until I Wake, a metal-core outfit from Buffalo, New York.

Bright green artificial grass covered the asphalt in front of the Inferno stage near the Speedway's Turn 1.It might be wishful thinking, but the plastic turf seemed to make it cooler.

Was I hallucinating?

A nearby festival goer didn't think so.

"If that's the road underneath, that would definitely buffer it, I think," said Chris Willingham, 47, who traveled from Branson, Missouri, for the four-day festival.

Equipped with a masters in geology, Willingham seemed to know what he was talking about.

Or maybe it was just the heat.

On stage, Until I Wake's lead singer, Justin Smith closed the show by taking a selfie of the crowd.

"We're going to take a Polaroid picture," he said, "so I can remember this and show my little guy at home."

In the crowd, Willingham said he was most looking forward to seeing Slipknot and the Foo Fighters, adding that the event already had impressed him.

"It's super-early, but it's already super-nice. I like the layout."

Hydration packs now allowed at Rockville due to extreme heat

"Due to the extreme heat, we will be allowing hydration packs (Camelbacks) at Welcome To Rockville this year," organizers said in a Facebook update Thursday afternoon. "They must be empty upon arrival and fans will be able to refill for free at one of our multiple FREE WATER REFILL STATIONS throughout the festival site. Stay safe, hydrated and get ready to rock."

How much do drinks/merch cost on the Rockville midway?

Here's a look at the menu board at one of the bars:

$12 for a Budweiser, $14 for a craft beer.

$17.50-$19.50 for specialty cocktails such as the Red Bull Watermelon Margarita, a mix of Milagro Silver Tequila and Red Bull Red Edition.

A bottle of water = $4.

On the topic of prices, you can score an official Welcome to Rockville T-shirt for $40 at one of the festival's massive merch tents.

Also available: An official welcome to Rockville beach blanket for $35.

Accept no imitations!

Early-bird fans ready for the first day: 'We never miss it'

Among the early-birds on opening day, Katie and Ryan, a couple of twenty somethings from St. Augustine, staked out an enviable patch of shade next to one of the colorful art installations on the midway.

They are festival veterans since before the event was Rockville, when it was known as Planet Fest in Jacksonville.

"We never miss it," said Katie, who declined to offer her last name.

The prospect of triple-digit heat didn't deter them this year, she said.

Over the weekend, they were most looking forward to sets by Clutch and Slipknot.

"We know it's going to be hot," she said, "you just need to prepare for it."

The couple was more unhappy about the cost of their "overpriced" quesadilla and the festival's policy of limiting attendees to one clear plastic water bottle at the gate.

"The water rule is so dumb," Ryan said. "When it's 100 degrees out, limiting people to one bottle of water is ignorant, really."

Brought your kids to Rockville? Here's what you should know

Welcome to Rockville is an all-ages event, so here's a tip for parents coming with their kids:

At the information tent at the Turn 1 entrance, parents can get an additional wristband for their "spawn"(festival lingo, not ours) that includes parental contact information.

The festival also recommends that parents point out one of the event's two medical tents to their children as potential meeting spots if family members become separated.

Sounds wise to make a plan.

The doors are open! What are the day's first shows?

Gates opened on time at 11 a.m. for Thursday's opening day of Welcome to Rockville at Daytona International Speedway.

Outside the track on West International Speedway, traffic was heavy, but not ridiculously so. Plenty of pedestrians bravely decked out in all black, despite expected temps in the 90s.

The festival's first band, Until I Wake , is slated for noon on the Inferno Stage near the Turn 1 entrance. That's where you can catch Bodysnatcher later at 1 p.m.

At 12:30 p.m., Fuming Mouth opens the Vortex stage. At the same time, Imperial Tide takes over the Octane Drift stage.

At 1 p.m., Point North kicks off the day at the Apex stage and As You Were takes the Garage stage.

Where to find water stations and tips to find shade, stay hydrated

It’s going to be hot out there.

While that information about Welcome to Rockville’s opening day on Thursday might not seem as important as deciding what bands to see on what stages , those musical plans might not materialize if you don’t stay hydrated.

How hot will it be?

According to the latest forecast information from the National Weather Service in Melbourne, the high temperature is expected to reach 93 degrees under sunny skies on Thursday in Daytona Beach. Of course, that means the "feels like" temps could soar into the triple digits.

On Friday, the high is expected to reach 90, with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially after 2 p.m. The rain chances decrease, slightly, to 40% at night.

On Saturday and Sunday, temperatures are expected to reach a high of 82 under mostly sunny skies.

If you want to stay hydrated, here are some tips:

There are designated shade areas such as a pair of Jack Daniels Shade Tents about midway between the Octane Drift and Apex stages. Also, the shaded area under the grandstand next to Turn 1 also will be open and available as a designated shade area, a first at this year's festival.

According to festival rules, attendees are allowed to bring along one factory-sealed bottle of water (20 oz. maximum size) or one empty plastic refillable water bottle (no hydroflasks, glass or yetis).

If you’re so equipped you can refill your bottle for free at one of several water stations throughout the festival grounds.

According to the map on the festival’s official website , water stations are in the following spots:

  • To the right of the Octane Drift Stage, next to the Heavy Tiki Bar, near the Turn 1 entrance;
  • In front of the Garage Stage, near the Turn 2 entrance;
  • Near the amusement rides outside the camper entrance. The same area includes the Vive Hydration tent;
  • Near the VIP entrance next to the Apex Stage.

But if you're looking to re-fill your plastic water bottle at one of a handful of water stations on the Speedway infield, here's some trivia you should also know:

There are 55 fresh water spigots available for that purpose, according to festival PR folks.

There also will be water and non-alcoholic beverages for sale at all concession stands.

If needed, there are medical tents near the campers entrance next to the amusement rides and also near the Turn 1 entrance.

Stay hydrated and, remember, whiskey doesn’t count.

Heavy guitars and bone-shattering drums then came in as she continued to sing, her strong voice in harmony with the thunderous sound of her band, while the lights splashed across the stage, as if she's indeed headlining a heavy-metal show.
