No one helps

What is going to take to help when one of you riders has a problem, I’m new to buying anything I was always scare, and sure enough I bought a pass of 30 days, because I got a one month job in NYC, so to make it worth it saving money I bought a pass, well apparently I bought the wrong pass, I try using it for the first time on Tuesday of this week because that was when the job start it, I got an Intrastate instead of a interstate, so the driver made me aware of it I had no idea, that same day I went to custumer service in port authority Ny, and they gave me a number to call and no one help they were supposed to call me back and no one did I sent 2 messages through the app and nothing, so now I’m here writing this message to plead for someone to help me or guide of what to do, my savings are not savings any more because I’m paying out of my pocket and I can’t use the up, I need a refund to buy the right pass

Buy paper tix until this app is fixed

App was fine before in early summer when I used it, as of Aug 25th 2023 is very glitchy, wouldn’t process my (easy) ticket I normally get and a friend traveling with me ended up accidentally buying 6 (!) of the same tickets because the app kept telling them the purchase didn’t go through and to try again. They did actually go through, even after refreshing things the app didn’t send a pop up notice the purchase was successful, and NJ Transit didn’t send a receipt promptly via email saying so. Being on a train platform or on a train running into ticket/app problems creates high stress and headaches for conductors who end up hearing valid excuses why you can’t show your ticket, or that you were just overcharged trying to buy 1 but ended up with 6. Apparently NJ Transit doesn’t like giving refunds (what a scam) so my friends forced to try to use the extra tix to a location she doesn’t often go. NJ has a millions of tech IT people who can capably fix app bugs I’m sure.. NJ Transit management needs to hire better tech developers to keep these problems from happening-do more test runs before releasing a new update. Amateurs should not be running an app that a half million people or so need for train commuting. Please stay on top of tech issues and fix asap! Or just go back to paper tickets til app bugs are sorted out.

New version looks nice but WONKY and nonsensical.

The new version of the app looks nice and modern. But it’s very annoying that my monthly pass pops up instantly when clicking “my tickets” because i actually have other tickets! Also it displays horizontally, which is annoying because I never asked it to rotate. If the ticket wants to display horizontally to distinguish a monthly from a single use, fine, but the functions should still remain at the bottom because I’m not holding my phone sideways, I’m holding it vertically. It’s very frustrating when trying to close the monthly pass to continue using the app or display another ticket. Also, the new version’s “schedule” feature got rid of displaying if a route has transfers on the results screen. I almost stayed on a train that had a transfer to get to where I was going because you have to CLICK the route to see wether or not you need to transfer to a different line or not. The old version said wether or not a route had transfers or not up front. It’s very misleading because I want to avoid trains with transfers if I can, and people who are new to NJ transit will for sure stay on a train instead of transfer if they don’t click to expand the route info because they’re under the impression there are no transfers if It doesn’t say so up front. Please bring that feature back. Everything else is fine I guess.

NJ Transit Launches New FlexPass Ticket Option

nj transit 10 trip pass

NJ TRANSIT has introduced a pilot ticketing option called FLEXPASS, which allows for more flexible travel options that better accommodate our customers’ current commuting patterns which continue to evolve due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

FlexPass-450x405

FLEXPASS will consist of 20 one-way tickets between one customer-selected origin and one destination and will be sold at a 20% discount off the one-way fare. FLEXPASS tickets will be available for purchase on bus, rail and light rail, and will only be offered for purchase via the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App during the pilot.

“The impacts of the pandemic have prompted NJ TRANSIT to develop creative solutions that accommodate our customers’ evolving travel patterns. FLEXPASS is just one way that NJ TRANSIT is working to incentivize customers to return to transit,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett. “We are working to make transit as attractive as possible and traditional monthly, weekly and ten-trip tickets are not economically optimal for many of our customers based on their current commuting frequency. Our hope is that we can encourage customers to return to transit by offering a flexible fare option that meets their needs.”

A FLEXPASS can be purchased at any time of the month and FLEXPASS sales are non-refundable. Customers may only buy and o

Hello, I can't find what is the price of 10 Trip ticket:

Ten-Trip Tickets

Ten-trip tickets are valid for ten one-way trips. Some ten-trip tickets are discounted. Discounted ten-trip bus tickets are valid for 20 days. Full-fare ten-trip bus tickets are valid until used.

tickets vary on cost by the number of zones you go through (up to 5). A 1 zone might be a dollar, a 2 zone $1.75. so it is best to but the right ticket for the trip you need. if you need 10- 4zones, buy that, they don't expire

nj transit 10 trip pass

And the 10-trip is about a 10% discount over the full price. But if you're 62+ you qualify for the senior fare which is less than 50% off

Whoops, should have read, "more than 50% off"

NJ Transit’s fare hike vote is coming. Here’s what you need to know.

T he clock is counting down to a scheduled April 10 vote by NJ Transit’s board of directors whether to increase fares 15% starting on July 1. What happens next?

The public comment period is closed, and work begins for NJ Transit officials to review the 1,197 comments made over 10 days of hearings , by email and snail mail. Their recommendations after reading the public comments have guided past NJ Transit boards in voting on and modifying a fare increase proposal.

What’s on the table?

NJ Transit has proposed a 15% fare hike, the first increase since 2015 when fares increased roughly 9%.

This proposal also asked for approval of a 3% fare increase to be taken annually starting July 1, 2025. NJ Transit officials said the annual increase answers a commuter complaint about waiting years and imposing large, double digit fare hikes instead of periodic increases in small increments.

Similar to a process called indexing used to increase New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway tolls 3% annually since 2021, there is no end date for automatic fare increases if approved.

For the agency, the fare hike and other provisions help closes a $106 million gap between farebox revenues, ridership that has not returned to 2019 levels. Added expenses such as $30 million spent on bus service when three private companies left the commuter and public transit business in 2023, in addition to inflation and contractual obligations have increased the operating budget to $2 billion in fiscal year 2025, that start July 1.

Gov. Phil Murphy proposed a business transit fee that places a 2.5% tax on large corporations making more than $10 million in profits to provide dedicated funding for NJ Transit’s operating budget, but a 15% fare increase is still needed to “bridge the gap” until those funds start flowing, officials said.

The end of FlexPass

The proposal ends the discount, 20-ride FlexPass. That discount ticket was created three years ago to service commuters working a hybrid schedule and commuting less than five days a week.

NJ Transit expects to make $4 million by discontinuing the FlexPass discount fare pass that was created in 2021 to accommodate commuters working hybrid schedules between the workplace and home, who stopped buying monthly passes.

NJ Transit sold 2.2 million FlexPasses in the last quarter of 2023, agency documents said. Commuters asked the agency during hearings to keep FlexPass, saying losing it with a fare hike would increase their commuting cost 43%.

Tickets have a shorter shelf life

Have some unused paper tickets in your pocket or e-tickets in the NJ Transit app wallet? Start using them. Paper and e-tickets would expire in 30 days, under the fare proposal, a big change from the current policy where they don’t expire.

That means, if approved, paper tickets purchased prior to July 1 would expire on July 31, officials said. Tickets purchased on and after July 1 would expire 30 days after the purchase date.

NJ Transit expects to earn $25 million by restricting tickets to a 30-day expiration date, according to agency documents.

One can understand that NJ Transit wants to discourage riders from hoarding tickets under the old fare if an increase is approved. But this got push back from both transit advocates and individual riders at fare hearings, who suggested a 60 to 90 expiration date that’s aligned with other agencies policies.

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has a 90 day expiration date on one way and round trip commuter rail tickets. MTA Long Island and Metro North commuter rail mobile, one way, off peak and 10 trip tickets are valid for 60 days, including the date of sale.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority which serves Philadelphia and its suburbs, phased out conventional paper tickets and replaced them with the the SEPTA Key card fare system , said John Golden, a SEPTA spokesperson.

Similar to New York’s OMNY fare card, travelers put funds on the chip enabled Key card . Riders on regional rail tap when get on and off, bus subway and trolley riders tap when getting on. Key Card funds never expire, Golden said.

SEPTA cash customers can buy single ride Quick Trip tickets that must be used on the same day they are purchased

NJ Transits ticket life proposal isn’t the worst. Metra, the regional commuter rail that serves Chicago and its suburbs puts a 14-day life on tickets purchased with its Ventura app. One way paper tickets die three hours after purchase on Metra.

Also affecting that issue are NJ Transit plans to debut its own fare card in late 2024 that riders would add value to and function similar to the Key Card.

Can the fare proposal be changed?

In theory, that’s the purpose of public hearings. In past years, original fare proposals were modified by NJ Transit based on public comments.

In 2010, NJ Transit officials changed the fare increase proposal, but the 2015 fare proposal was approved without modifications.

Where NJ Transit’s used discretion in past fare hikes is by not applying the full percentage of a fare increase to the one zone local bus fare, sparing the poorest, most transit dependent people who use local bus service.

Advocates said during public hearings, noting there’s a difference between the commuter who take the bus to a Wall Street job and the person who rides it to a minimum wage job. Some riders said at hearings they may have to put off other essentials to cover a fare hike .

Transit advocates and some riders asked the board to delay voting on the fare increase to coincide with adoption of the $56 million fiscal year 2025 state budget which takes effect on July 1.

Others, including some legislators and a retired legislative leader suggested scuttling the fare increase and using revenue from the proposed business transit fee instead. So far, legislation to enact that fee has not been introduced.

Nj transit one-way tickets will expire after 30 days starting this summer.

New Jersey Transit will be implementing a new policy regarding one-way tickets and Flexpass effective July 1, according to an announcement from the company.

Here are the details of the updated policy.

One-way tickets

Starting on Monday, July 1 all NJ Transit one-way tickets, including both printed and digital, will have a 30-day expiration period. Tickets will remain valid for 30 days after and including the date of purchase.

PATH’s new fare payment system that lets commuters tap their digital chip-enabled cards and smartphones to ride is now in all seven New Jersey rail stations, officials said.

The Total Access PATH Payment (TAPP) readers , which will ultimately replace the old SmartLink and MetroCards that require riders to reload value, are now available at nine stations that include major New York PATH terminals .

More than 100 fare gates have now been equipped with TAPP readers, representing 30% of 337 turnstiles in the system, officials said. More TAPP turnstiles were seen in service at World Trade Center on Friday as PATH is starting to phase out use of SmartLink and MetroCard for payment.
