The 2021 edition of the Northern Trust , the first event of the 2020-21 PGA TOUR FedExCup Playoffs held at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City that begins on Thursday, August 19, 2021 (8/19/21), marks the first major golf event in New Jersey where fans can be in attendance.

Those who would like to check out the festivities at Liberty National, where the top 125 players in the FedExCup standings will duke it out, can get tickets to the event at StubHub or TicketSmarter .

Among the notable players participating in the tournament this week are:

  • Xander Schauffele
  • Dustin Johnson
  • Brooks Koepka
  • Bryson DeChambeau
  • Phil Mickelson
  • Jordan Spieth
  • Collin Morikawa
  • Rory McIlroy
  • Hideki Matsuyama

Fans who cannot make the trek to Jersey City or would prefer to watch at home can do so for free via a trial of fuboTV .

The tournament will be broadcast exclusively on the Golf Channel from 2-6 p.m. ET on Thursday, August 19, and Friday, August 20, then 1-3 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 21, and from 12-2 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 22.

Here is the latest from Liberty National, via the Associated Press:

Patrick Reed withdrew from The Northern Trust on Thursday with an ankle injury, missing the first of two events remaining before the end of Ryder Cup qualifying.

The PGA Tour did not receive details on the nature of the injury.

Reed is No. 22 in the FedEx Cup and already assured of being in the field next week outside Baltimore. But with the points tripled in value for the postseason, reaching the Tour Championship becomes a little more difficult.

Of more immediate concern is the Ryder Cup.

The top six automatically qualify after the BMW Championship next week. Reed is No. 9 in the U.S. standings. Six more players will be captain’s picks after the Tour Championship.

John Shippen tournaments now offering prize money along with PGA, LPGA exemptions

pga tour new jersey

There is a new feature to the three John Shippen invitational golf tournaments, and the winners will be walking away with more than just a chance of a lifetime at Michigan pro golf events.

The tournament organizers announced on Wednesday that there will be money available to the top finishers for the John Shippen men's and women's invitationals and the Cognizant Cup event. A total purse of $60,000 will be split among the top three finishers (and ties) for each.

“Offering purses for all three the John Shippen events is a hugely important step as we continue to support the top Black men and women golfers in their development,” Jason Langwell, executive director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, said in a released statement. “Pursuing a professional golf career is an expensive endeavor, and the costs of travel, equipment and access to training and facilities can be prohibitive. Our goal is to help ease those financial stresses and reward the players that perform well in our events.”

The winner of the men's event, June 22-23 at the Detroit Golf Club, will still earn a spot in the PGA Tour's Rocket Mortgage Classic from June 27-30, and $13,200.

The women's invitational winner, June 4-5 at Blythefield Country Club in Grand Rapids, will also win $13,200 and a spot in the Meijer LPGA Classic on June 13-16 at the same course. That winner and a partner of her choosing will also play in the Dow Championships, a team event in Midland on June 27-30.

The John Shippen events began in 2021 to highlight the best Black men's and women's golfers in the country and has also contributed to local charities and scholarships.

The Cognizant Cup is held May 6 in Clifton, New Jersey. The winner of the one-round event will get $10,000 and a chance to play in the LPGA's Cognizant Founders Cup later that week.

Amateur players are not eligible for the cash winnings, and will have their portion of the purse split among the other top-three finishers.

John Shippen, the son of a slave, is thought to be the first American golf pro who competed in several early U.S. Opens.

The week ahead in pro golf: PGA Tour, PGA Tour Champions head to Texas; LPGA, Korn Ferry off

The PGA Tour heads to Texas for the first of three tournaments in two weeks preceding the season’s next major championship.

While the Tour is near Dallas, the PGA Tour Champions will be in Houston at the former site of the Houston Open.

The LIV Golf League stays on the other side of the globe, going to Singapore after playing in Australia last week. But LIV will have its own presence in Texas next month, playing at the Golf Club of Houston June 7-9.

The other major tours are dark this week. The LPGA is off before a four-week stretch that will include three tournaments in New Jersey and the Korn Ferry Tour takes a two-week break before going to Kansas City, Mo. — apparently, the only way to cool off Tim Widing, who has won the last two events.

Event: The CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Thursday-Sunday, TPC Craig Ranch, McKinney, Texas.

At stake:  $9.5 million purse ($1,710,000 and 500 FedEx Cup points to the winner.

LIV GOLF LEAGUE

Event:  LIV Golf Senatosa, Friday-Sunday, Senatosa Country Club, Singapore.

Cj cup byron nelson's title sponsor brings new flavor to a beloved local institution, share this article.

pga tour new jersey

McKINNEY, Texas — K.H. Lee has won twice on the PGA Tour deep in the heart of Texas, but should he ever win the Masters, he has already thought of at least one dish he’d serve at his Champions Dinner the following year: Tteokbokki, a simmered spicy rice cake noodle dish with minced meat.

“I think American people would love it,” he said.

Lee is back at TPC Craig Ranch this week where he has experienced great success and also where the tournament has a new flavor. Lee’s biggest sponsor, CJ, a South Korea-based holding group with a presence in food, retail, logistics, media and biotechnology, has stepped in to replace AT&T as the title sponsor of the Tour’s annual stop to the Dallas Metroplex.

The CJ brand has had a consistent presence in professional golf through ambassadors such as Ben An, Sungjae Im, Si Woo Kim and Lee, and has been associated with the PGA Tour dating to 2017 when the Tour hosted its first event in South Korea on Jeju Island. But due largely to the outbreak of COVID-19, which prevented travel to Korea, the tournament has bounced around from Las Vegas to Ridgeland, South Carolina. Finally, the CJ Cup is putting down roots in Dallas, a city home to a large contingent of Korean-Americans, signing a long-term deal in what has become known as the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

“It’s a storied tournament,” said Minsok Pak, CEO of CJ Food. “It gives us a permanent spot for the next 10 years, which allows us to have a deeper connection with the community.”

CJ has long valued the nexus between sport and consumers, and used that bridge to connect them elsewhere. The company is in the middle of a six-year partnership with the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers, who wear a logo patch on their jersey. Lakers legends World Metta Peace and Sasha Vujacic participated in activities at the golf tournament in a branding crossover.

The timing of CJ’s takeover of a local institution that has carried the Nelson name since 1968 coincides with a re-brand of Bibigo, which launched its U.S. business in 2010, and is considered an important part of the company’s global portfolio, accounting for roughly a third of its total food business. In the last four years, Bibigo’s market share has grown 1,100 percent, and the sense is they’re just scratching the surface.

“It’s a growing market and one in which we have very big aspirations right now,” Pak said. “In addition to what we see around the CJ brand, you will see Bibigo is going to be all over the place. That’s our main global food brand and this year it had a new logo and brand refresh. It will be showing up not only in the concessions but in the signage and activation in the community.”

During Thursday’s first round, fans were lining up to sample Bibigo’s Mandu Dumplings in the fan zone and order favorites ranging from fried bibigo chicken dumplings with a citrus-soy dipping sauce and sweet-heat sesame cucumber salad to Korean crunchy chicken and Korean-style loaded fried with Bibigo’s Korean BBQ drizzle sauce.

“It’s a great way to introduce consumers to our variety of flavors and give them a chance to sample these products,” Pak said. “That’s how we get consumers to try these new categories and then they come back because they’re darn tasty.”

On Tuesday, local chefs challenged each other to a Korean versus Texas Barbecue cook-off. The winner? It’s too close to call. Even Pak said he had a hard time choosing between the two delicacies.

“I have some cognitive dissonance on that one because I grew up in Texas so Texas or Korean BBQ, ah man, that’s a hard one,” he said.

Lee, however, didn’t hesitate in voting with his heart.

“Come on, I’m born in Seoul so I love Korean barbecue,” he said.

Lee said that Korean culture – from the Netflix sensation “Squid Game” and the movie Parasite – have infiltrated U.S. pop culture and that the popularity of Korean food should continue. (He’s bullish on Korean ice cream being the next breakthrough star.) He said he has taken Tour pros such as Maverick McNealy to Korean barbecue restaurants while traveling on the road and hoped to host some players this week in Dallas.

“Most guys, almost everybody knows Korean BBQ — the grilled meat — and sometimes they ask me ‘Can we go to a Korean restaurant?’” Lee said. “I love to treat the guys to Korean restaurants.”

At the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, food may well be the way to a fan’s heart. Asked by a reporter if Mandu Monday could become as popular as Taco Tuesday, Lee pondered the questions and said, “Even if not on Monday, I love Mandu.”

NY Jets’ Aaron Rodgers the source of inspiration for PGA golfer

A PGA Tour golfer used the New York Jets’ starting quarterback as a source of inspiration for his own comeback

One New York Jets player is serving as a source of inspiration for a PGA Tour golfer.

PGA Tour golfer Bernhard Langer tore his Achilles two months ago in March but is set to return to action this weekend.

Two months after tearing his achilles, @BernhardLanger6 is making a return. The 66-year-old plans to tee it up next week @InsperityInvtnl . A look inside his miraculous comeback journey ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/aBjzCWn9jO — PGA TOUR Champions (@ChampionsTour) April 26, 2024

At 66 years old, it would be one of the most impressive returns from an Achilles injury in modern history. And in pursuit of that return, Langer turned to Jets’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers for advice.

“Yeah, I got his contact information at the Masters and actually from Andy North. A few days later, I was able to talk to him for about 45 minutes. He had the same injury and the same surgery—he just had it done in L.A.,” said Langer.

The golfer also said that he “followed Rodgers’ story” and “was encouraged that he might be able to do something similar.”

Although he never returned in the regular season, it is still extremely impressive how fast Rodgers recovered from his injury.

After tearing his Achilles in Week 1, the future Hall-of-Famer gave himself a chance to return for a possible Jets playoff run in 2023. While New York could not uphold its end, Rodgers defied the odds against him.

Rodgers helped and inspired people in his sport, such as running back J.K. Dobbins.

Now, that influence has expanded well beyond football, reaching a golfer trying to defy the odds in his own recovery.

Tiger Woods, Mike Trout unveil routing for Trout National in New Jersey

Tiger Woods, Mike Trout unveil routing for Trout National in New Jersey

Change Text Size

On Friday, Tiger Woods’ TGR Design unveiled the planned routing of Trout National – The Reserve in Vineland, New Jersey, the course that Woods is designing with 11-time MLB All-Star Mike Trout.

The long-awaited reveal was accompanied by a video showing Woods meeting up with Trout on-site along with drone footage of the planned layout, as well scenes of heavy equipment already in the process of sculpting the proposed design.

“Some of my favorite golf experiences have been ones that have challenged my game while still having fun, and that’s what we wanted to create at Trout National – The Reserve,” the 32-year-old Trout, who played center field for the Los Angeles Angels, said in a statement. “Tiger, John (Ruga, a Millville landowner/developer) and I walked hole by hole, and this course will do just that. Our vision and his design is creating something special here in my hometown.”

Trout National – The Reserve is billed as a par-72 layout that will play to 7,455 yards. The Woods’ design, which will also include a short course design, was originally announced in March and is slated to open in 2025.

“Mike and John found a site with a lot of character to make some outstanding golf holes,” Woods added in the statement. “The sandy and diverse terrain has so many great natural features that have given us a lot of options on how to create a world-class golf course.”

What’s New on Peacock in May 2024? The Tattooist of Auschwitz, Love Undercover, the Kentucky Derby & More

From racing to romance to reality TV intrigue, Peacock’s the place to chill as the weather heats up outdoors.

pga tour new jersey

Is it summertime yet?! Eh — not quite. But things are heating up outdoors as May approaches, even as Peacock keeps things on ice with an eclectic slate of fresh streaming debuts, huge sporting events, new-rotation movies, and a celebration of culture that lasts all month long.

RELATED:  Everything To Know About The Peacock Limited Series The Tattooist of Auschwitz

New to the bird app this month is The Tattooist of Auschwitz , a Peacock original limited series based on author Heather Morris’ bestselling novel that examines the real-life story of love and loyalty between Holocaust survivors Lali and Gita Sokolov. Jonah Hauer-King, Melanie Lynskey, Anna Próchniak, Jonas Nay, and Harvey Keitel head up the cast in a poignant remembrance of hope amid hopelessness, with The Tattooist of Auschwitz available to stream from May 2.

If sizzling romance is more your speed, there’s a Peacock premiere for that, too. May 9 marks the series debut of Love Undercover , the new reality dating show with a super-addictive twist: How will potential partners react when a squad of international soccer superstars hides their wealth and fame in the name of attracting true love? Follow along as the athletic pros go incognito, concealing the affluence that just might be revealed to the mate who proves to be less than impressed by fleeting luxuries.

And, if literal speed is more your speed, there’s no better place to be in May than Peacock. A grand American sports tradition marks a major anniversary milestone with the running of the 150th Kentucky Derby on May 4, followed later in the month (May 26) by the spectacle of open-wheeled racing with the 108th Indianapolis 500 . And for a change of pace that still keeps things competitive, tune in live beginning May 7, when the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest kicks off the annual mega-music sensation, as nations vie for pitch-perfect bragging rights in the world’s biggest musical event.

Season 1 of the inventive music-themed comedy We Are Lady Parts was a hit with critics back in 2021, and this month marks the series return of the show that shadows the joyfully chaotic adventures of its titular Muslim female punk band — all while they shore up their roster and stay on the hunt to land the perfect gig. Catch up on the series in time to plug in on May 30, when We Are Lady Parts cranks it up to 11 for its amped-up Season 2 encore.

There’s even more fresh streaming stuff in store on Peacock, where the entire month of May will mark the small-screen celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month. Commemorate the occasion with 31 days of a well-curated cultural collection, including new movie additions like The Joy Luck Club , The Last Airbender , and Life of Pi — as well as the streaming debut of the 2023 Chinese 3D animated fantasy feature Deep Sea .

Here’s a look at everything streaming on Peacock in May:
