Maker Monday: Create a DIY marker travel pack

Kids love to keep busy on car rides drawing pictures with felt-tip markers. With this week’s Maker Monday activity — a marker travel pack — it’s so much easier to keep them from dropping to the floor and rolling under a car seat. It’s a fun project to make, too.

Maker Monday materials you’ll need:

  • 9-inch-by-12-inch foam sheet
  • pipe cleaners
  • stickers (optional)

Step 1: Fold the foam sheet loosely lengthwise. Make a series of cuts into the fold about 1-inch deep, keeping the cuts about 1-inch apart from one another. Leave about 3 inches uncut at each end. (You will need two cuts for each marker you’ll store in the travel pack that you’re making.) If you are going to store fatter markers in your travel pack, leave more space between the cuts. If you’ll be storing very thin markers in your travel pack, you can keep the cuts an inch apart (or slightly less) and make more of them.

Step 2: Take four pipe cleaners and set them side by side, overlapping about 4 inches. Twist them together in order to make them into one extra-long pipe cleaner (see above).

Step 3: Open the foam sheet and weave the twisted pipe cleaner in an out of the cuts that you made. Push it through until you have an equal length sticking out at each end.

Step 4: Turn the foam sheet over and insert your markers in between the pipe cleaner and foam sheet.

Step 5: Fold the ends of the foam sheet together, pull the pipe cleaner ends together and twist them to keep it securely closed.

Optional Step 6: Decorate your marker travel pack with stickers.

Now you’re ready to bring your markers on car trips or anywhere you go. When using the markers, it can help you stay organized to remove just one at a time and put it back before using the next marker.

All Versions

Instructions from the readme file.

Armor stands with banners will show a variety of useful info when posed. Limitations:= ============= a. As this is a resource pack and can't access deeper data like an addon/behavior pack, there is limited information that this can access. - It cannot detect light levels or be adjusted for game difficulty / simulation distance. b. Entity Render Distance - On bedrock, entities cannot be seen beyond 70 blocks on most devices. - This means the despawn sphere is only just in view when you're outside it. - There are no options to increase this distance so there is no point in making larger despawn spheres as you won't be able to see them. c. FPS - The FPS meter is very fast and looks a little blurry - It's not possible to slow this down with just the resource pack sadly. d. Measure Distance - Again, due to entities not being visible passed 70 blocks, the measure will only work up to 70 blocks away from the armor stand. - If you need to measure longer distances than this, use multiple armor stands. How to use:= ============ Give an armor stand any banner and then change the pose. Currently there are 12 available settings. Features:= ========== Pose 1: Spawn Spheres - 24 Block Radius (Green) & 54 Block Radius (Red) - 44 Radius is the despawn radius with a 4 chunk Simulation Distance Pose 2: Chunk Borders (1 chunk) - Chunk border is aligned to the chunk that the armor stand is inside of - Does not work if the armor stand is placed on a diagnal orientation Pose 3: Chunk Borders (3x3 chunks) - Same as above but shows a grid of 3 x 3 chunks around the armor stand Pose 4: Chunk Borders (5x5 chunks) - Same as above but shows a grid of 5 x 5 chunks around the armor stand Pose 5: Compass - No matter which way the armor stand is facing, the compass will always point north Pose 6: Measure Distance - Great for measuring straight lines, heights and making circles! - Shows the distance to the player (camera) - Using the third person camera will affect the distance as this measures the distance from the armor stand to the camera. - It will measure in all axis and directions Pose 7: Day - Shows the current in game day Pose 8: Time of Day - Shows the time of day (in ticks) from 0 - 24000 Pose 9: FPS - Shows your current Frames Per Second Pose 10: COORDS - Shows the coordinates of where the armor stand is placed - Limited to 99999 blocks in each direction Pose 11: NETHER COORDS - Shows the corresponding nether coordinates of where the armor stand is placed (Overworld X & Z divided by 8) - Limited to 99999 blocks in each direction - If using the experimental version of the pack the coords will be switched when inside the nether, so the Nether coords (Pose 11) will be correct and the Overworld Coords (Pose 10) will be multiplied by 8 - If not using experimental verison of the pack the nether coords (Pose 11) will be incorrect when used inside The Nether. Pose 12: Spawner Radius - Stand the armor stand on top of a monster spawner cage. - Shows two shapes. - A green rectangle around the spawner where mobs will spawn from - A red sphere around the spawner where the player must stand within to activate the spawner

How to install add-ons...

Dealing with zip files....

Most of the downloads on this site will be in the form of a .zip file. The zip file is a compressed folder normally containing a readme file, a licence agreement and the add-on or pack you've downloaded.

First you'll need to open or unzip the zip file somewhere onto your PC or device.

On Windows, you can use Microsoft's built in zip tool , or you can download a zip tool from the internet . I recommend 7-zip as it's free, fast and lightweight .

On mobile you might want to look at downloading a file manager if you don't have one available.

On console you can download the pack to either a phone or your PC and follow the steps below...

Installing on Windows and Mobile

Once you have extracted the zip file, the simplest way to install the add-on or resource pack is to open the .mcaddon, .mcpack, .mcworld, .mctemplate file and let Minecraft install it automatically .

For older packs without a zip file , just open the file you downloaded and Minecraft should load up and install it for you.

Installing on Console...

You can no longer install packs and add-ons directly on to consoles , instead you'll need access to a Minecraft Realm and a version of Minecraft on Windows or Mobile .

Follow the procedure above to install the add-on or pack to your Windows or Mobile version of Minecraft and then add the pack to a new world or a world you want to use on your console.

Upload that world to your realm and then download that world from your realm on your console.

Add-on Conflicts

Some add-ons just won't work with other add-ons!

This is normally because the conflicting add-ons require at least one of the same file. Only one of the add-ons can run in this situation which will make the conflicting add-ons seem broken.

What are Experimental Features?

Experimental features are additional game features for Minecraft Bedrock Edition, that are still under development by Mojang.

They can include new blocks, items and entities but they are mainly for developing third party content such as add-ons, resource packs and maps for the Minecraft Marketplace . They exist for the developers to be able to receive feedback from the public in order to test them and get them ready for production.

Not all experiments will make it into the stable release of the game as they may be determined to be unreliable or unsuitable . Newer experiments are likely to change during development which can have adverse affects on add-ons and worlds which use them.

There are various experiments that are available to be toggled within your Minecraft world settings . Each experiment contains different features that might be required for certain add-ons and maps.

You can enable experimental features on Minecraft worlds, realms and servers and use them in single player and multiplayer.

Are they dangerous?

Not all experiments are dangerous. Some have been around for a long time and are considered relatively stable . Newer experiments are more likely to cause unpredictable results in your game which could lead to crashes or world corruption , but this is unlikely.

Always proceed with caution though! Make backups before enabling experiments on any of your worlds.

Why are some add-ons and packs Experimental?

There are a lot of add-on features within the experimental features that are not available within the stable version of the game. Due to the popular demand of these features, I decided to add some of them into my packs to make my packs more effective and more enjoyable.

How to enable Experimental Features?

For single player worlds, you can toggle them within the world settings screen.

For realms and servers you can check it out on YouTube: How to enable EXPERIMENTAL MODE on REALMS & SERVERS

Can You Bring Markers on a Plane?

Traveling by plane often comes with a long list of dos and don’ts when it comes to items that can be brought on board. One common question that arises is whether markers can be brought on a plane. In this article, we will delve into this question and provide you with all the information you need to know about bringing markers on a plane. From TSA regulations to tips on packing markers for travel, we’ve got you covered.

Understanding TSA Regulations

When it comes to bringing markers on a plane, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations. The TSA considers markers as liquids or gels, which are subject to the 3-1-1 rule. This rule states that each passenger is allowed to bring liquids, gels, and aerosols in containers that are 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item, all of which must fit comfortably in a single, clear, quart-sized zip-top bag. Therefore, if your markers are within this size limit, you are allowed to bring them on board.

It’s worth noting that markers with a water-based formula are more likely to meet the TSA’s guidelines compared to markers with an alcohol-based formula. Alcohol-based markers may be considered flammable and could be subject to additional restrictions. To be safe, check the packaging or label of your markers to determine the formula or consult with the manufacturer for specific guidelines.

Additionally, it’s crucial to remember that even if your markers comply with the TSA’s regulations, the final decision ultimately rests with the security officer. They have the authority to confiscate any items they deem to pose a potential threat to the security of the aircraft or its passengers.

Packaging Markers for Travel

When packing markers for air travel, there are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind to ensure they are safely stored and easily accessible. Firstly, make sure to place your markers in a clear, resealable plastic bag that adheres to the TSA’s guidelines. This will allow for easy inspection during security screening.

Furthermore, consider wrapping your markers in a protective layer, such as bubble wrap or tissue paper, to prevent any accidental leakage or damage during transit. Placing them in a hard-shell pencil case or a designated marker travel case can also provide added protection.

If you are traveling with a larger set of markers, it may be more convenient to pack them in your checked luggage rather than your carry-on bag. This will not only save space in your carry-on but also minimize the risk of the markers being confiscated during the security screening process. However, be aware of any restrictions on art supplies in your destination country or state, as there may be additional regulations to consider.

Benefits of Bringing Markers on a Plane

Bringing markers on a plane can offer numerous benefits, especially for those who enjoy creative pursuits or have young children. Markers allow for artistic expression and can be a source of entertainment during long flights or layovers. They can be used for coloring in coloring books, sketching, or even creating handmade cards or artwork to pass the time.

Moreover, markers are compact and lightweight, making them an ideal travel companion. They can easily fit into your carry-on bag or personal item without taking up much space, leaving room for other essentials. Whether you’re a professional artist, a doodler, or simply looking to relax and unwind during your journey, having markers on hand can enhance your travel experience.

It’s important to note that while markers can be a fun and useful item to bring on a plane, it’s essential to be considerate of other passengers. Avoid using markers with strong odors that could potentially cause discomfort to those around you. Additionally, be mindful of not accidentally marking or staining the aircraft’s surfaces, as this may result in additional charges or penalties.

Tips for Bringing Markers on a Plane

Here are some useful tips to keep in mind when bringing markers on a plane:

  • If possible, opt for water-based markers rather than alcohol-based markers to comply with TSA regulations more easily.
  • Invest in travel-size markers or marker sets specifically designed for travel. These often come in compact packaging and are more convenient to carry.
  • Check the size and quantity of markers allowed by the TSA prior to your journey to avoid any surprises at the security checkpoint.
  • Consider carrying a small notebook or sketchbook with your markers to have a designated space for creative expression.
  • If you’re traveling with children, ensure the markers are age-appropriate and non-toxic.
  • Remember to pack markers securely to avoid leakage or damage to other items in your luggage or bag.

Can you bring markers on a plane? The answer is yes, as long as they adhere to the TSA’s guidelines and regulations. By understanding the rules, properly packing your markers, and being considerate of other passengers, you can enjoy the benefits of bringing markers on your next flight. Whether it’s for personal creativity, entertainment during the journey, or simply to pass the time, having markers on hand can elevate your travel experience. So gather your markers, pack them appropriately, and set off on your next adventure with artistic inspiration at your fingertips.

Can You Bring Markers on a Plane?

Traveling by plane often comes with many restrictions and guidelines on what items you can bring on board. If you’re an artist or simply enjoy coloring, you may wonder if you can bring markers on a plane. In this article, we’ll explore the transportation regulations surrounding markers and provide you with all the information you need to know to bring your markers with you on your next flight.

Transportation Regulations for Markers

When it comes to bringing markers on a plane, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has specific guidelines in place to ensure the safety and security of all passengers. In general, markers are allowed in both checked baggage and carry-on bags. However, there are a few key factors to consider to ensure smooth travel without any issues:

  • Size Restrictions: For carry-on bags, markers must adhere to the 3-1-1 liquids rule, which means each marker must be 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less, and all markers must fit into a clear, quart-sized plastic bag. If you have larger markers that don’t meet these size restrictions, it’s best to pack them in your checked baggage.
  • Water-Soluble Ink: If your markers have water-soluble ink, it’s important to remember that they may be subject to additional scrutiny by TSA agents. While they are generally allowed, you may need to remove them from your bag during the security screening process.
  • Sharp Tips: Some markers come with sharp tips that could be considered potential weapons. To avoid any issues, it’s recommended to pack markers with sharp tips in your checked baggage rather than your carry-on to ensure a smooth security screening process.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that you are in compliance with TSA regulations and enjoy your flight without any complications.

Benefits of Bringing Markers on a Plane

By bringing markers with you on a plane, you can turn your flight into a more enjoyable and productive experience.

Additional Tips for Traveling with Markers

While you now have a clear understanding of the rules and benefits of bringing markers on a plane, here are a few additional tips to ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience:

Pack Extra Supplies:

Make sure to bring extra markers, as well as coloring books or sketchpads, in case you run out of ink or feel inspired to create more art during your flight.

Protect Your Markers:

Consider investing in a protective case or container to keep your markers safe and organized during the flight. This will prevent any damage or leakage that could ruin your other belongings.

Respect Other Passengers:

While coloring can be a relaxing and enjoyable activity, be mindful of the people around you. Avoid excessive noise, strong odors, or any behavior that may disturb fellow passengers.

With these additional tips in mind, you can fully enjoy your coloring experience while respecting the comfort of those around you.

Bringing markers on a plane is generally allowed, as long as you adhere to the Transportation Security Administration’s guidelines. • Always pack your markers in a clear, resealable plastic bag to facilitate the security screening process.

  • Remember to follow the airline’s regulations regarding the transportation of liquids and sharp objects.

Frequently Asked Questions

In this section, we will address common questions regarding bringing markers on a plane.

1. Are markers allowed on a plane?

Absolutely! Markers are generally allowed in both carry-on and checked baggage. However, it is crucial to ensure they meet the specific regulations set by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). When packing markers in your carry-on, make sure they are not categorized as prohibited items.

To avoid any issues at the security checkpoint, choose markers that are non-toxic and do not contain hazardous materials. Additionally, it is always good practice to pack your markers in a clear, resealable plastic bag to make the screening process smoother for the TSA officers.

2. Can I bring markers with liquid ink on a plane?

Yes, you can bring markers with liquid ink on a plane. However, similar to any other liquid item, markers with liquid ink are subject to the TSA’s liquid restrictions. According to the TSA guidelines, each liquid item carried on board must be in a container that does not exceed 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and should fit into a single quart-sized, clear plastic bag.

If your markers with liquid ink meet these requirements, you are allowed to bring them on the plane. Just make sure they are placed in the plastic bag for easy inspection during the security screening.

3. Are there any specific rules for bringing permanent markers on a plane?

Permanent markers, also known as sharpies, are generally permitted on a plane. However, they must adhere to the same liquid restrictions mentioned earlier. If your permanent markers contain liquid ink, ensure that they are within the allowed limit of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and packed in a clear plastic bag.

Furthermore, it’s essential to understand that the final decision on what items are allowed rests with the TSA officer at the security checkpoint. It’s always a good idea to check the TSA website or contact them directly for the most up-to-date information before your trip.

4. Can I take paint markers on a plane?

In general, paint markers are allowed on planes; however, there are some restrictions to keep in mind. Paint markers often contain liquid or gel ink, which means they are subject to the TSA’s liquid restrictions. Make sure the paint markers meet the 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) limit and are packed in a clear plastic bag.

While paint markers are usually permitted, it’s always a good idea to check with the TSA or your airline before your trip, as regulations can vary. Compliance with the specific airline policies is also crucial, so be sure to review their guidelines as well.

5. Is there anything else I should be aware of when bringing markers on a plane?

Aside from complying with the TSA’s rules and regulations, it’s important to note that markers, like any other item, may be subject to additional screening. If a security officer deems it necessary, they may conduct further inspection of your markers. Be cooperative and follow their instructions to ensure a smooth and efficient security process. Remember, the primary goal of these regulations is to maintain the safety and security of all passengers during air travel.

Lastly, it’s worth mentioning that regulations can change over time, so it’s always wise to double-check the latest information from official sources such as the TSA website or by contacting your specific airline before your trip.

So, to wrap things up, we’ve learned that bringing markers on a plane is generally allowed. However, there are some rules you need to follow to make sure everything goes smoothly.

First, make sure your markers are non-toxic and water-based. This means they won’t harm you or others if accidentally ingested. Second, keep your markers in a clear, plastic bag to make it easier for the security officers to check them. Remember to remove any sharp or removable parts from the markers and put them in your checked luggage.

Lastly, it’s always a good idea to check with the airline you’re flying with to see if they have any specific rules about art supplies on board. This way, you can be prepared and avoid any surprises at the airport.

Now you have all the information you need to bring your markers on a plane. So get creative and bring your artwork with you on your next flight! Safe travels!

travel pack markers

After visiting more than 60 countries, I have probably been on every type of plane there is and visited countless airports. I did my very first international solo trip to South Africa at the age of only 16 and haven’t really stopped traveling since.

Despite the adventurous travel itch, I do have a nerdy side as well – which is satisfied by writing about all things aviation “too boring” for my regular travel blog.

Promising review: "This wallet is durable, chic, and spacious. The lining is very soft and feels expensive. From the design to the material to the zippers and snaps, it's well made. They ordered in yellow and bronze and were also happy with the color." — Brianna graham

reviewer's clothes neatly organized in green packing cubes

Promising review: "I travel frequently and travel light. My luggage is usually limited to a backpack that slides under the airline seat. For a two-week European cruise, I added a carry-on rolling suitcase. I've used these packing cubes twice so far, and I am hooked. One cube holds everything (including clothing) I take on a three-night trip . The cube slides into my pack, saving massive amounts of room, and everything is easy to find during travel and at the hotel. Taking out one cube and unzipping is much better than digging through a pack! I will never leave home without these!" — Gura

Get a set of four from Amazon for $21.99 (available in 12 colors and as a set of eight).

6. Or some  vacuum storage bags  when you're a serial over-packer...or if you simply need to maximize luggage space. Place your items in the bag and suck out the air with the included travel pump. Who says you can't bring multiple outfit options on vacation?

A BuzzFeeder's bulky clothes in a sealed bag with text:

Former BuzzFeed Shopping writer  Jasmin Sandal says: "I swear by these bad boys not only for general storage purposes, but also if I know I'm going to be traveling for an extended period of time. As someone who tends to pack for every eventuality (who doesn't like to be prepared?!) I have learned that it's better to travel with them than without — especially since it's more or less a guarantee that my clothes are gonna take up a ~substantial~ amount of room in my suitcase. And if I can use something that's gonna shrink the size of my bulky hoodies and/or big tees in order for me to create more space, I'm sure as heck gonna do it. Plus, the satisfaction is indeed guaranteed because when you see those chunky layers flatten into a pancake...it's just *chef's kiss* ."

Promising review: "These are the best packing bags. We used them traveling across the country and... to save space in the suitcase! It's really easy to have the pump right inside the suitcase to flatten the bags when traveling for pleasure. I definitely recommend this for home or travel." — kit

Get a three-pack from Amazon for $32.98+ (available in four sizes and in larger multipacks).

BuzzFeed Shopping editor Maitland Quitmeyer says: " I never thought I'd be an e-reader person, but living in a New York apartment with limited bookshelves changed my ways. I love love (love love love) my Kindle — especially for easily borrowing library books, squeezing in a few chapters on a subway ride, and of course traveling. I lit'rally read 10 times as much with a Kindle in my life."

Promising review: "I was so skeptical about switching from actual books to the Kindle but I have loved it!!! It’s so much more convenient to read and travels well. I’ve only had it like two weeks and have only charged it once (have read three books)!! Its battery life is amazing." — Haley

model wearing a gray trtl pillow while sleeping on a plane

The Trtl pillow is adjustable — you wrap the pillow around your neck and secure it with Velcro, and if you find it's too loose, just make it a bit tighter! I've truly never slept better on a plane than with this pillow.

Promising review : "WOW! Literally life changing; used it on my 11-hr flight to and from Norway to SF and I usually can never sleep on planes, but this did the trick! It’s also super packable and doesn’t take up too much space! " — Julie Cox

It's made of vegan leather and includes a 15" padded laptop sleeve, two additional pockets, an external zipped pocket, and a separate shoe compartment!

Promising review: "This garment bag is an exceptional value for the money. Well built, top quality materials, including 'beefy' zippers, should hold up well for airline travel. Minimal wrinkles if any in garments, and a cavernous bag for storing shoes and other items for a trip. Added bonus, it fits easily in the plane overhead storage , similar in size to a standard roller bag. I highly recommend this product." — Kindle Customer

Get it from Amazon for $57.45 (available in two colors).

10. An amazingly compact  travel stroller  if one of your major anxieties when packing revolves around your essential parenting items. This stroller is so dang portable *and* it can count as a carry-on item.

Reviewer's photo showing the folded stroller fitting the carryon size requirement for Southwest Airlines

The stroller is supposed to accommodate kids from 6 months up to 55 pounds (approx. 4 years old).

Promising review: "This stroller is great! So cool looking, too. I constantly have moms coming up to me asking where I got this! So easy to fold, so light, and barely takes any space in my trunk. We took it on a flight, and the flight attendants recognized the stroller and told me that I can just wheel the baby on and put the stroller in the overhead bin. I wish I had gotten this stroller with my oldest, but I was being cheap. This stroller is so worth the money. I regret not getting it sooner! But at least my youngest can enjoy it." — Nai Len

Get it from Amazon for $139.99+ (available in eight styles and four colors).

11. A set of TSA-approved  silicone travel bottles  so your toiletries are ready for flight in no time. This set also includes spray bottles and jars for storing other products, like lotions and perfumes.

You get four bottles, four jars, and two spray bottles. It also comes with two scoopers to use with the jars, a funnel for transferring liquids, a clear travel bag, a set of labels, and a cleaning brush.

Promising review : " This little set is perfect for your travel toiletries. Instead of paying $3 for those little travel bottles, you can fill your favorite products in these. The taller tubes are silicone and easy to fill. For the circular containers, I used the little scooper to fill them. I didn't use the spray bottles this trip, but I did use everything else, and I'm happy to say nothing leaked. Easy to clean after use as well. " — Nicole

Get it from Amazon for $9.48+  (available in four colors).

12. Or a  waterproof toiletry bag  designed to hold tons of stuff — it has four compartments so you can pack all your travel-size items. There's also a handy hanging hook so you won't lose track of it!

the pink toiletry bag opened showing all compartments filled with items

Promising review: "I. Love. This. Bag. Seriously, I had a cheap toiletry bag from Target that essentially did the same thing, only way worse. It was too small; the hook didn't rotate so you could only hang it at an angle, if anything ever leaked; it would seep right through the bag, etc. But THIS bag has NONE of those issues! It fits everything I need and then some, meaning I don't have to skimp on my 10-step Korean skincare routine when I travel anymore. It never leaks. And I love that the hook swivels so you can hang it anywhere, and your stuff hangs perfectly. I also love the handle and the overall flatter shape. It makes it so easy to travel with! Cannot recommend this bag enough." — KaiEli

Get it from Amazon for $18.39+ (available in two sizes and 11 colors).

So long as you remember to bring it, it's all the convenience of to-go coffee with none of the waste. It's leakproof and, when you're all done, it collapses down teeny tiny and can be tossed back in your bag. Oh! atomizer pumping on a perfume bottle

BuzzFeed Shopping editor Elizabeth Lily says: "^ That's me pumping my signature perfume into one of these travel atomizers I've been using for about a year. As the reviewer down below mentions, it's great to just throw in your purse on the reg for a fragrance re-up throughout the day. As you can see, it's about the size of my thumb and therefore takes up very little room. Plus! It's smaller than most rollerball travel fragrances you can pick up. This first one is working so well, that I just have the other three in storage. But if this one bites the dust this summer during travels, I'll be OK about digging into my stores to use one of the remaining three...especially at this price point."

Promising review:  "I bought these due to traveling a lot for work and needing to cut down on the size of things in my carry-on bag for flying. I can bring four different perfumes now instead of one big one. They’re super easy to fill and haven’t leaked so far, but I keep them in a sandwich baggie while traveling just in case. Promising review: "So helpful! I travel a lot, and so does my husband, and this pad makes packing so much easier and stress-free. The list is quite extensive; while I probably will never need to pack all of it for one trip, it covers everything for a business trip or a pleasure trip. I don't worry about what I forgot to pack anymore. Use a pencil, erase it when done, and one sheet will last 3–4 trips." — Cktine

Multitasky is a small business founded by Julia Xu in 2020. They're known for their adorable and functional tech products, including power banks, laptop accessories, and more!

Promising review:  "It does as it says it does, allowing my Dell XPS15 to operate a pair of USB devices from my lightning port! The laptop has two USB ports, one of which is always occupied by my USB mouse dongle and the other by my protected USB drive. If I wanted to plug in my phone to switch data or add another thumb drive to transfer a device, everything might have to be disconnected, but not anymore. It was really worth it." — Liberty

29. A fold-up duffel  when you know for a fact you'll be coming home with more than you originally packed. Pack your purse in your luggage on the way home and use this as your personal item instead!

The duffel in blue

It folds into a tiny pouch when not in use, is tear and water resistant, and even has a separate side pocket for shoes. There's also a side strap that slides easily over your roller luggage handle.

Promising review: "We bought this to take with us when we visited our daughter who is studying abroad for four months. We figured she would not have enough room in her luggage when it was time to come home. Folded up, this bag was so compact and lightweight, it took up almost no room in our own luggage for the trip over. Then, sure enough, she had a ton of clothes and shoes to send home with us and packed this bag full. We checked the bag and it made it through two international flights without a scratch. The BEST feature is the side strap that allows you to slide it over the handle of a rolling suitcase so you don't have to carry it. This is probably the most practical and the best-value item I have purchased in years. " — Tosa Mom

Get it from Amazon for  $18.99  (available in 16 colors/patterns).
