The Manfreds will also play a few Paul Jones, Mike d’Abo and Tom McGuinness solo hits, plus other surprise covers of their favourite R&B songs.
Paul Jones said: "What's this? Our Diamond Jubilee? Wow! People say to me: 'I bet you never dreamed you'd still be doing this after all these years / decades'; but the truth is that I always believed I'd be out here doing what I do until - and well beyond - this age.
"The only thing I didn't know was that I'd still be a Manfred, and (as Mike d'Abo frequently points out) we've got Tom McGuinness to thank for that.

The Manfreds
The manfreds return to the met following the huge success of their sixtieth anniversary tour in 2023..
They are considered one of the finest and most respected bands from the 1960s era. Their numerous hits were not just ‘pop’ songs, many were R&B based with an undercurrent of jazz – a very unusual but winning combination of playing style and substance.
As a result, their records have a timeless quality and, some sixty years on, The Manfreds , with original front man Paul Jones , will be performing many of their hits, including ‘Do Wah Diddy Diddy’ , one of the most popular and instantly recognisable songs of the ‘60s, and still the biggest audience pleaser at their concerts, along with a mix of jazz and blues covers and tracks from their individual solo albums.
Paul Jones , with his unique harmonica sound, will be joined by Tom McGuinness on guitar, Pete Riley on drums, Mike Gorman on keyboards, Marcus Cliffe on bass, and Simon Currie on saxophone/flute.

60s icons The Manfreds back with celebratory tour
The Manfreds – featuring three members of chart-topping 60s legends Manfred Mann – are celebrating 60 years as one of Britain's most respected bands.
Pioneers of rhythm and blues in the UK, and a massive part of the British Invasion, The Manfreds’ music still retains a timeless quality all these years later.
As well as celebrating their anniversary, the group’s upcoming jaunt will also mark the last opportunity for fans to see both original frontmen Paul Jones and Mike D’Abo on tour together as it’s the last full tour Mike is doing with The Manfreds, though he’s not fully retiring from gigging, just touring. Joining Mike and Paul is original guitarist Tom McGuinness.
Speaking to the Cambridge Independent from “near Saffron Walden”, Paul Jones, 81, says it genuinely has been six decades since Manfred Mann first came together.
“Actually, the band assembled originally towards the end of 1962,” he explains, “so as far as the actual kick-off of the band is concerned, we’ve passed 60 years – but it was more than a year before we had a hit record.
“The first hit came out towards the end of 1963 so it really is 60 years this year, and it’s a great to have a celebration like that.
“We have done these autumn tours roughly every other year since the early-to-mid 90s, and we’ve had guests on every single one, except the 50th anniversary.
“We did the 50th anniversary tour no guests, just us, and so we’re doing exactly that on the 60th anniversary tour.”
Led by South African-born keyboard player Manfred Mann, who is no longer involved, the band originally lasted from 1962 until 1969, with Paul as the lead singer from 1962 to 1966 and Mike D’Abo taking over lead vocal duties from 1966 onwards.
Reforming as The Manfreds in 1991, the collective have carried on performing together ever since. Fans attending the autumn gigs can expect to hear many of their much-loved hits, including Pretty Flamingo , 5-4-3-2-1 , The One in the Middle , Mighty Quinn and Do Wah Diddy Diddy , one of the most popular and instantly recognisable songs of the decade.
There aren’t many bands from the 1960s still going strong with three members from the hitmaking line-up. “If you want to be really strict about it, the Stones are down to two now,” says Paul, “just Mick and Keith, because even Ronnie came in later on, of course, but they’ve got three from pretty nearly the original line-up, which is darn good going these days, isn’t it?
“You’ve got a whole number of bands and all they’ve got is the drummer from the original band, or one other member.”
It’s also worth noting that all the original members of Manfred Mann are still alive, which perhaps no other band from that period can say.
“Well, yes, when we got back together again in 1991, we actually did have everybody except Manfred,” notes Paul, who left the fold in the mid-60s to pursue a solo career as he felt the group was becoming more and more pop-driven.
“And in a way it was a coincidence, or a sort of spin-off, that we got the band back together, because in 1991 Tom McGuinness was celebrating his 50th birthday and he decided to celebrate by having every band that he’d ever played in on one gig, on one evening.
“That meant having The Manfreds, of course, having The Blues Band, having McGuinness Flint and also having a band called The Roosters, which was his first band.
“He couldn’t get The Roosters back together again, for one reason: another member of The Roosters was Eric Clapton and we couldn’t find him – he’d vanished...
“But we had all of that back together again and it was a wonderfully enjoyable evening. We got back to the dressing room and somebody said, ‘You realise we’re going to have to do more of this, don’t you?’ because The Manfreds obviously topped the bill and that was what we realised we were going to have to do more of.
“And sure enough, we started there and then to get gigs and go back out on the road. It was a little bit slow starting but it’s going very well now, 30 years later!”
Paul, who has also worked extensively as an actor in TV and theatre, says he’s “moderately in touch” with Manfred but notes: “There were times when we weren’t in touch because we really wanted him to come back and play with us. Not all year round but to do the odd tour, but he wouldn’t do it.
“I absolutely understand because Manfred Mann’s Earth Band is a very going concern, and so why would he muddy the water of his own career? So there was a time when we were sort of not very friendly but that’s long gone now – we’re all mates again.”
Paul notes that only Manfred Mann and keyboard player and drummer Mike Hugg were in Manfred Mann before he was. Mike was involved with The Manfreds until recently.
“Absolutely – right from 1991 through to 2021,” says Paul, a committed Christian, “but he’s been off with ear problems and stuff like that... we’re in contact and seeing how things go for him.
“He’s still spiritually there, if you see what I mean. A lot of stuff that we put in the repertoire because of him when he was there, we are still playing when he’s not there, so he’s still with us in spirit.”

The Manfreds Announce 60th Anniversary Celebration Maximum Rhythm ‘N’ Blues UK Tour

Alongside these classic chart toppers, The Manfreds will showcase a few Paul Jones / Mike d’Abo / Tom McGuinness solo hits, plus a few surprise renditions of their favourite Rhythm ‘n’ Blues numbers from over the years
Ahead of the tour Tom said:
“It’s 60 years ago this December that I joined Manfred Mann and 30 years and more since we got together for a one-off gig to celebrate my 50th birthday, with no idea that it would lead to a long-term reunion. How lucky I feel to be once again on-stage making music with The Manfreds”.
Paul added:
“What’s this? Our Diamond Jubilee? Wow!
People say to me: “I bet you never dreamed you’d still be doing this after all these years / decades”; but the truth is that I always believed I’d be out here doing what I do until – and well beyond – this age. Mike commented:
“I first became aware of Manfred Mann’s reputation with ‘5-4-3-2-1’ storming up the charts, Paul Jones oozing youthful confidence, the band – with a hint of academia about them – had a unique appeal.
Little did I know that, in a couple of years , I’d be joining them as Paul’s replacement. What an incredible thrill and honour that was!
Well… the good news is that The Manfreds are still doing it! Yes, we’re all back together again – Paul Jones, Myself & Tom McGuinness – belting out the hits we created all those years ago. What an amazing survival story.“ Share this:

Taylor Swift Eras tour ticket scams could have conned UK fans out of more than £1m, bank warns
Fans of Coldplay, Beyonce and Harry Styles were also targeted by scams last summer, Lloyds has said. The bank has issued a warning to fans after analysing reports of customers who have been conned since tickets went on sale in 2023.
Wednesday 17 April 2024 00:54, UK
Taylor Swift fans in the UK could have already lost more than £1m to con artists pretending to sell concert tickets for her Eras tour, a major bank has estimated.
Lloyds Bank has issued a warning to fans based on an analysis of purchase scams reported by its customers, as well as those of Halifax and Bank of Scotland, where Swift and/or the Eras Tour were referenced as part of the claim.
More than 600 Lloyds Banking Group customers have reported being scammed since tickets went on sale in July 2023.
Each victim lost £332 on average, though in some cases the loss was more than £1,000, Lloyds said.
With the figures based solely on its own customer data, Lloyds estimates there are likely to have been at least 3,000 victims across the UK - with more than £1m lost to fraudsters - based on its current account market share and assuming similar trends across other UK banks.
Fans aged 25 to 34 trying to buy sold-out tickets are most likely to be targeted, with many scams originating on social media, Lloyds warned.
Fans of Coldplay , Beyonce and Harry Styles were also targeted by scams last summer, it added.
Purchase scams involve tricking someone into sending money via bank transfer to buy goods or services that are fake, shoddy, or do not exist.
Ticket scams often involve fake adverts, posts or listings on social media, offering tickets or access to events which have already sold out as fraudsters know they can cash in on eager fans willing to pay much more by falsely claiming to have tickets for sale.
Swift's record-breaking Eras tour is set to gross more than $1bn (£813m), according to reports, with tickets for shows selling out as soon as they went on sale.
By the time it ends in December, the star will have played more than 150 shows across five continents.

'If it looks too good to be true, it probably is'
Lisa Webb, consumer law expert at Which?, said people buying gig tickets should use a credit card for anything costing more than £100, or PayPal, as both these methods can provide protection.
"We've heard from disappointed Swifties who have bought tickets on social media, only to realise it's a scam when their promised tickets never materialise," she said. "Unfortunately, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
"Don't be tempted to buy tickets from anyone other than authorised sellers, as your rights can be significantly reduced if something goes wrong."

Anyone who thinks they have fallen victim to a ticket scam should contact their bank and report it to Action Fraud or Police Scotland, she added.
Liz Ziegler, Lloyds Bank fraud prevention director, said: "It's easy to let our emotions get the better of us when we find out our favourite artist is going to be performing live, but it's important not to let those feelings cloud our judgement when trying to get hold of tickets."

Autumn 2021 UK Tour The Manfreds plus special guest Georgie Fame
Legendary pioneers of British Rhythm and Blues, The Manfreds, will be touring once again this autumn, featuring special guest Georgie Fame. The dates are rescheduled from 2020 – all original tickets remain valid.
The tour will bring Rhythm and Blues nostalgia, along with their greatest hits, all across the country. The tour begins in Sheffield, with stops in Liverpool, London, Birmingham, and many more before the final show in Glasgow.
Manfred Mann formed in London in 1962, quickly finding success with their breakout single 5-4-3-2-1 , recorded for ground-breaking TV pop show Ready Steady Go! Following this, Manfred Mann went on to score 3 number one hits in the UK, as well as 13 more in the Top 10, with their first number one Do Wah Diddy Diddy landing them in the vanguard of the British pop invasion of America alongside The Beatles and The Animals.
Following several more hits including Pretty Flamingo , a song which was often played by Bruce Springsteen during the early years of his career, and Bob Dylan’s Mighty Quinn , by the end of the 60’s, the band members had decided to pursue their own separate musical directions, resulting in the disbanding of Manfred Mann.
Fast forward 20 years later to 1991, several original members of the band reformed as The Manfreds, in celebration of Tom McGuinness’ 50th birthday and surrounding a compilation of Manfred Mann’s classic hits.
The all-star line-up features the original Manfred Mann singer Paul Jones alongside founding members Mike Hugg and Tom McGuinness. Also joining is Paul Jones’ 1966 replacement Mike d’Abo, responsible for penning the classic tracks Build Me Up Buttercup, and Handbags & Gladrags, most famously covered by Rod Stewart, Chris Farlowe and Stereophonics and used as the theme tune to the UK TV series The Office; as well as Simon Currie and Marcus Cliffe, who have previously worked with the likes of Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, and Rod Stewart, and drummer Rob Townsend, formerly of rock band Family.
The group will be performing some of their most loved songs, with their timeless hits Do Wah Diddy…, Pretty Flamingo, Sha La La, and, of course, 5-4-3-2-1 to be played alongside the individual hits that brought the artists solo success. This includes Mike d’Abo’s solo-penned hits and Paul Jones’ I’ve Been A Bad Bad Boy , as well as the McGuinness Flint classic When I’m Dead and Gone .
Paul Jones says, “Not only is it exciting to think that the Manfreds might actually be able to play together on tour again at last; that the great Georgie Fame will be back with us as well; that our friends and fans, starved of live music from us for so long, will refresh their memories with the real thing once more; but also that these loved, cherished and much-missed venues – and the people who work in and look after them – will once again host us and make us welcome!”
Mike D’Abo also commented, “I’m looking forward to being part of the Manfred’s Maximum R&B Tour featuring our special guest and old friend Georgie Fame. To think that, between us, we topped the charts on no less than six occasions in the 60s – with both The Manfreds & Georgie Fame each notching up three No.1 hits – that’s an achievement I’m ‘Mighty’ proud of!” Joining The Manfreds is the iconic Georgie Fame. First shooting into the charts as the founding member of Georgie Fame & the Blue Flames, he went on to achieve 3 UK Number One singles Yeh Yeh, Get Away and The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde .
With his much-loved blend of Jazz and Rhythm & Blues, Georgie Fame has consistently worked in the highest musical circles and has become an icon of the British music scene, having collaborated with the likes of Van Morrison and Bill Wyman.

Fontaines D.C. announce huge 2024 UK and Ireland headline tour
The dates come ahead of their upcoming album ‘Romance’
Fontaines D.C. have announced details of a huge UK and Ireland tour, set to kick off later this year. Find ticket details below.
- READ MORE: Fontaines D.C.’s daring comeback single ‘Starburster’ is their most experimental work yet
Announced today (Friday, April 19), the new dates arrive in celebration of the band’s upcoming album, ‘Romance’ .
Grian Chatten and co. shared news of their fourth LP earlier this week, dropping the pummelling new single ‘Starburster’ and confirming that it will be arriving later this August.
Produced by James Ford ( Arctic Monkeys , Foals , Depeche Mode ), the release will mark the follow-up to 2022’s acclaimed ‘ Skinty Fia ‘ and will be shared via XL Recordings. Visit here to pre-order it.
The new tour dates are set to take place across the latter half of 2024, and kick off on November 20 with an opening night at The Halls venue in Wolverhampton. From there, the tour will continue with a gig at Alexandra Palace in London two days later.
Shows in Cardiff, Plymouth, Nottingham and Manchester are lined up for the remainder of the month, and the final three shows will take place during the first week of December.
The December shows include a gig at First Direct Arena in Leeds (3), Glasgow’s OVO Hydro Arena (4), and finally, a stop at the 3Arena in Dublin on December 6.
Recommended
Support for all dates will come from Sorry , and DIIV will also be joining the Irish band for the gig at Alexandra Palace.
Tickets go on sale next Friday (April 26) at 10am and will be available here . Fans who pre-order the album by 3pm on April 23 will also have access to pre-sale tickets. Check out a full list of new tour dates below.
Fontaines D.C. upcoming UK and Ireland tour dates are:
NOVEMBER 20 – Wolverhampton – The Halls 22 – London – Alexandra Palace 24 – Cardiff – Utilita Arena 26 – Plymouth – Pavilions 27 – Nottingham – Motorpoint Arena 29 – Manchester – Aviva Studios
DECEMBER 3 – Leeds – First Direct Arena 4 – Glasgow – OVO Hydro 6 – Dublin – 3Arena
The 9-date tour through November and December will follow a summer of extensive festival shows for Fontaines D.C., which includes performances at Glastonbury , Reading & Leeds , Fuji Rock, Pukkelpop Festival, and more.
The announcement of ‘Romance’ also came with the release of lead single, ‘Starburster’ – a song inspired by frontman Grian Chatten suffering a panic attack and accompanied by a sinister and cinematic video directed by Aube Perrie ( Megan Thee Stallion , Harry Styles , The Hives ).
Reviewing the track, NME noted how the band had “taken a perfect left turn” , adding: “Leaning on the Massive Attack trip-hop noir vibes first hinted at on ‘Skinty Fia’’s title track, ‘Starburster’ is a pensive art-rock beast that fuses elements of electronica and hip-hop more akin to their fellow striking countrymen (and recent collaborators ) KNEECAP .
“Bravado meets psychedelia as the frontman says he’s ‘over harder than a turned up challenger’ and ‘the pig on the Chinese calendar’.” it added. “The video, too – a fever dream of blood, animals and a cast of misfits trying to find their way – further supports their referencing of Shygirl and Sega Bodega as key inspirations.”
Speaking about the title of the album, bassist Conor Deegan said: “We’ve always had this sense of idealism and romance. Each album gets further away from observing that through the lens of Ireland, as directly as ‘ Dogrel ‘. The second album (‘ A Hero’s Death ‘) is about that detachment, and the third is about Irishness dislocated in the diaspora. Now we look to where and what else there is to be romantic about.”
He added: “This record is about deciding what’s fantasy – the tangible world, or where you go in your mind. What represents reality more? That feels almost spiritual for us.”
Since their third album, ‘Skinty Fia’, Fontaines D.C. have also covered Nick Drake’s ‘Cello Song’ for a compilation album .
In December, the band teamed up with Massive Attack and Young Fathers to announce the release of a limited edition 12” single to support Médecins Sans Frontières in their relief efforts in Gaza. The ‘Ceasefire’ EP will arrive on June 1.

The Manfreds Announce 60th Anniversary Celebration Maximum Rhythm ‘N’ Blues UK Tour
Legendary pioneers of Rhythm and Blues in the UK, The Manfreds (formerly known as Manfred Mann) have announced a comprehensive UK tour, celebrating a remarkable 60 years as one of Britain’s most respected bands.
A massive part of the 60s British Invasion, The Manfreds’ music still retains a timeless quality some 60 years on. As well as celebrating the band’s 60th , this tour will also mark the last opportunity for fans to see both original frontmen, Paul Jones and Mike D’Abo, on tour together. Joining Mike and Paul is original guitarist Tom McGuinness along with long standing Manfreds members Rob Townsend on drums, Marcus Cliffe on bass and Simon Currie on saxophone/flute. The band originally ran from 1962 until 1969 – defining the decade with their unique sound. Reforming as The Manfreds in 1991, the band have carried on performing together ever since for over 30 years.
Fans can expect many of the much loved hits, including Pretty Flamingo, 5-4-3-2-1, The One In The Middle, Come Tomorrow, Sha La La, Ha Ha! Said The Clown, My Name Is Jack, Fox On The Run, Mighty Quinn and Do Wah Diddy Diddy, one of the most popular and instantly recognisable songs of the decade and still the biggest audience pleaser at their concerts Alongside these classic chart toppers, The Manfreds will showcase a few Paul Jones / Mike d’Abo / Tom McGuinness solo hits, plus a few surprise renditions of their favourite Rhythm ‘n’ Blues numbers from over the years Ahead of the tour Tom said:
“It’s 60 years ago this December that I joined Manfred Mann and 30 years and more since we got together for a one-off gig to celebrate my 50th birthday, with no idea that it would lead to a long-term reunion. How lucky I feel to be once again on-stage making music with The Manfreds”.
Paul added: “What’s this? Our Diamond Jubilee? Wow! People say to me: “I bet you never dreamed you’d still be doing this after all these years / decades”; but the truth is that I always believed I’d be out here doing what I do until – and well beyond – this age. The only thing I didn’t know was that I’d still be a Manfred, and (as Mike d’Abo frequently points out) we’ve got Tom McGuinness to thank for that.
This tour is indeed a celebration: of the longevity of a concept that came together over a long time – and mostly of its own accord.”
Mike commented: “ I first became aware of Manfred Mann’s reputation with ‘5-4-3-2-1’ storming up the charts, Paul Jones oozing youthful confidence, the band – with a hint of academia about them – had a unique appeal. Little did I know that, in a couple of years , I’d be joining them as Paul’s replacement. What an incredible thrill and honour that was! Well… the good news is that The Manfreds are still doing it! Lloyds Bank is aiming to help Taylor Swift fans in the UK avoid a cruel summer. The bank has issued an “urgent warning” over ticket scams for the upcoming UK leg of the superstar’s Eras Tour, finding that Swifties are being “targeted by a wave of concert ticket scams flooding social media.”

The institution further estimates that industry-wide across the UK there are likely to have been at least 3,000 victims since tickets went on sale, with over £1 million ($1.25 million) lost to fraudsters so far.
More than 90% of reported cases start with fake ads or posts on Facebook, which includes Facebook Marketplace, according to Lloyds, with dozens of unofficial groups set up specifically for people looking to buy and sell tickets for Taylor Swift concerts.
Lloyds warned, “With all UK dates now sold out, many more fans are likely to fall victim to ticket scams in the coming weeks and months, both leading up to the tour and once the concerts begin in June.”
In its research, Lloyds found that the number of reported scam cases relating to concert tickets more than doubled last summer compared to the same period a year earlier (up by 158%). Among the other major artists most commonly targeted last summer were Coldplay, Harry Styles and Beyonce.
Liz Ziegler, Fraud Prevention Director, Lloyds Bank, said, “For her legion of dedicated Swifties, the excitement is building ahead of Taylor’s Eras Tour finally touching down in the UK this summer. However, cruel fraudsters have wasted no time in targeting her most loyal fans as they rush to pick up tickets for her must-see concerts. It’s easy to let our emotions get the better of us when we find out our favorite artist is going to be performing live, but it’s important not to let those feelings cloud our judgement when trying to get hold of tickets.”
Ziegler suggested, “Buying directly from reputable, authorized platforms is the only way to guarantee you’re paying for a genuine ticket. Even then, always pay by debit or credit card for the greatest protection. If you’re being asked to pay by bank transfer, particularly from a seller you’ve found on social media, that should immediately set alarm bells ringing.”

Taylor Swift fans in the UK have been scammed out of $1.2 million, bank says
- UK Taylor Swift fans have lost over $1.2 million to Eras Tour ticket scams, Lloyds Bank says.
- The bank issued an urgent warning after it said 600 of its customers fell victim to the scam.
- Most of the ticket scams targeted 25- 34-year-olds through fake ads on Facebook.
It looks like it's heating up to be a Cruel Summer — at least for Swifties in the United Kingdom seeking Eras Tour tickets.
Fans of Taylor Swift have already been scammed out of over $1.2 million trying to purchase concert tickets, mostly through Facebook, according to Lloyds Bank .
This prompted the bank, which is among the United Kingdom's largest, to issue an "urgent warning." The warning said that at least 600 of its customers had been victimized by a ticket scam, losing anywhere from £332 to over £1,000.

Outside of its own banking system, Lloyds estimated some 3,000 more Brits may have fallen prey to the scams, losing as much as £1 million, or over $1.2 million, in total nationwide.
Most of the scams appeared to target 25- to 34-year-olds using fake ads on Facebook, the bank said.
"For her legion of dedicated Swifties, the excitement is building ahead of Taylor's Eras Tour finally touching down in the UK this summer. However cruel fraudsters have wasted no time in targeting her most loyal fans as they rush to pick up tickets for her must-see concerts," fraud prevention director Liz Ziegler said.
The popularity of Swift's Eras Tour has caused all manner of problems for its ticket-seeking fans.
Many Swift fans in the United States were forced to purchase resale tickets after Ticketmaster botched the 2022 release of tickets, prompting a congressional inquiry the following year. Swifties stateside told Business Insider they had to do serious sleuthing to confirm they weren't being scammed when they paid for resale tickets.
In July 2023, the San Francisco Better Business Bureau warned Swift fans that scammers were running ticket scams as her "Eras Tour" date approached in the city, according to ABC .
Alma Galvan, BBB regional communications manager, told the outlet that scammers will sometimes pretend to be friends on social media and sell fans fake tickets for a large price.
The BBB recommends only purchasing tickets from reputable vendors and using a credit card before a debit card, cash transfer app, or cash, the report said.
One Swift fan who spent more than $1,500 on tickets on Facebook Marketplace told BI that she insisted on using Paypal Goods and Services for the transaction because it helps users get a refund if their concert tickets never arrive.
