Kurt Vile Expands Spring 2024 North American Tour

kurt vile tour support

Kurt Vile released his new EP,  Back to Moon Beach , via Verve Records this past fall. Today, he expands his North American tour in support of the EP, which includes cities he’ll play for the first time in many years. After playing across the midwest and south, Vile will head east, capping off his run with a headlining performance at Virginia’s Red Wings Roots Music Festival. Deemed by  Rolling Stone  as one of the best guitarists of all time , Vile “incorporate[s] influences from all over music’s map, synthesizing them into his bed-headed style that’s gently, subtly virtuosic.” These guitar chops are at the forefront of his rousing live set. A full list of dates below and tickets are on sale this Friday at 10am local.

Back to Moon Beach  is an EP by no one’s definition but Kurt Vile’s. Clocking in at just shy of an hour, this would be a long full-length record by most any other artist’s yardstick; but for Vile, the collection is an expression of just how deep his well of non-album material runs. Following his 2022 album,  (watch my moves),   Back to Moon Beach  collects new songs, one-offs, covers, and newly reworked versions of beloved tracks. Shortly after the release of  Back to Moon Beach , Vile performed for  Austin City Limits 9th Annual Hall of Fame Honors John Prine , saluting the late legendary singer-songwriter John Prine.

Kurt Samuel Vile (born January 3rd, 1980) is an American musician from Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, best known for his solo records. He often performs and records with his band, The Violators.

Vile began writing and recording music in his teens, dreaming of emulating heroes like Smog and Pavement and signing to his favourite label, Drag City. His aspirations, though, were at odds with the professional life that he led through his late teens and early twenties, when he led what he’s described as a ‘depressing’ blue-collar life working jobs that included driving a forklift truck. It wasn’t until 2005, when he returned to Philadelphia after a while living in Boston, that he made his start in the music business by forming The War on Drugs with his friend, Adam Granduciel. He continued to work on his own material, too, and a solo album, ‘Constant Hitmaker’, was released in the same year as The War on Drugs’ debut, ‘Wagonwheel Blues’.

From there on in, Vile’s status as a band member or a solo artist became increasingly more muddied; it was his career as the latter that seemed to really take off, meaning that Granduciel toured with him in his backing band The Violators in support of 2009’s ‘Childish Prodigy’. Since then, Vile has split from The War on Drugs, who would go on to huge success with 2014’s ‘Lost in the Dream’, and focused on more solo records that have seen him master his own brand of woozy, freewheeling and often psychedelic rock; ‘Smoke Ring for My Halo’ met with rapturous acclaim in 2011, and its follow-up, 2013’s ‘Wakin on a Pretty Daze’, troubled the right end of many a publication’s end of year best-of list.

Live reviews

Take one look at the man and the band in front of you onstage: all that hair, all those electric guitars, there’s a plaid shirt or two…this is going to be some kind of noisy grunge nonsense, isn’t it? Well, in short, no. Kurt Vile doesn’t do noise. He’ll give you some dope psych/folk jams, though. Vile is perhaps the most unassuming man to ever take to the stage. He hides behind his hair as he and his band The Violators run through extended versions of tracks from Smoke Ring for My Halo, not saying very much and when he does, it’s all delivered rather nervously. What matters most, though, is not that Vile is lacking “bantz”; Vile’s languid solos are what matter, as he takes a track like ‘Jesus Fever’ and lets the running time extend and bend until you don’t recognise the song anymore thanks to his astonishing liquid playing. Even when he drops the electric and picks up an acoustic guitar, Vile manages to manipulate a song so that one minute he’s Dylan, the next he’s Springsteen – this kid is talented. It’s not all completely laid-back mind you; Vile and the Violators can rock out with the best of them and there’s almost a punk element to the glorious ‘Freeway’ and it shakes you right out of the cosmic reverie the preceding tracks had put you in. You won’t come away thinking you were in the presence of a star and showman, but a Kurt Vile set gives you what you need – cracking songs.

Philadephia’s Kurt Vile gets the ‘slacker’ term levied at him in a manner that’s frightfully unfair, if you ask me. Like fellow ‘slackers’ Beck and Mac Demarco, he’s built up a considerable fan base thanks to consistenyly touring the world on the back of a slew of excellent, inventive, melodically rich records that only continue to grow in elegance, the lazy sod. Honestly, if the three of them had never worn a plaid shirt, we’d most likely be calling them prolific. Kurt Vile’s shows can be split by in large in to two sections; one, a singular Kurt deftly finger picking his way through beauteous tunes like ‘Baby’s Arms’ and ‘Peeping Tomboy’, two, Vile backed by his powerhouse of a rock band The Violators to channel their inner Rolling Stones on songs that require a little more of a backbone (‘Shame Chamber’ or the near-epic ‘Goldtone’ being among the tunes benefitting most from their addition). Songs are mumbled and somewhat loose, sure, but that’s part of their charm – devoid of pretence or showiness, Kurt Vile makes the whole ‘being an international rock star’ thing look like the easiest job in the world. Maybe there is something about those shirts after all.

The setting was perfectly unassuming when Kurt Vile played a low-key SLC summer concert series set. I was expecting a tracklist chock-full of b'lieve I'm goin down songs and relative-hits, but was glad to hear a slew of Smoke Ring's deeper cuts and fluid, loose jams from Kurt's entire discography. By the end of the night, Kurt Vile's infectiously casual demeanor spread through the audience, and the festival-goers who stuck around were treated to a final, beautiful rendition of Goldtone and On Tour, two of my favorite tracks. Overall, the atmosphere Kurt Vile brought on tour was a caricature of the man himself, and exactly what I came to hear.

The show was great! Kurt's musical sincerity and quirky personality shined! I loved it. I only wish the crowd and venue could've done their part in creating an environment that respected his talent. Unfortunately, Marathon never brings in crowds that are 'present' or truly respect the performer/music. It's disheartening because Kurt showed up, performed a beautiful set, but Nashville let him down with their overly chatty tinder dates and disengaged crowd. Regardless, my friends and I got a lot out of it and our appreciation for Kurt Vile and artists like him continues to grow.

It was a great show.KV was presenting his last record "Bottle it in", released last week, and most of the songs was from this album. Not one of my favourite KV's albums but always better than the average rock albums.

Previously played Meg Baird and Mary Lattimore. It was just a 30 minuts concert but very intense and exciting.

The venue was full and the sound was awesome (Sala Apolo is my favourite club in Barcelona). Definitely a great night.

Mr. Vile seemed plagued by pedalboard and monitor problems at the start of the set; but things got better as the show rolled along. Setlist skewed towards slower acoustic numbers, with a predictable encore of "Pretty Pimpin". The Sadies definitely stole the show with their high-energy opening set, and the audience was reminded of this when Kurt Vile had them back onstage at the end of the show for a great closer.

tedpeebles’s profile image

Very disappointing. The 'Pretty Daze' album took a while to find it's following in London, but by summer this year, it was the soundtrack to every hip coffee joint in the city. But there's been a new record since then, and that formed the majority of the set. I don't think I was alone in being disappointed by this fact, since the crowd lost energy with each track played, and many began leaving before the end.

tmdoomzz’s profile image

Great show from a seemingly very shy man, played mainly eyes to the ground, behind a curtain of hair.

The first few songs felt a little chaotic, but about a third of the way through the set the band settled in and Kurt starting whipping his guitar off his shoulders at the end of songs at breakneck speeds. Despite his reservedness, Kurt's enthusiasm for the music, venue and performance shone through.

I have seen at least 200 hundred shows and I have walked out on 3. Kurt Vile was one of them. There was no show. It was basically like watching the album being played on stage by a robot. No emotion. No showmanship. Nothing special. My husband, who loves live music as much as I do, was super disappointed as well. Total bummer.

HeatherDevers’s profile image

I did not know him a week ago but was very exciting meeting him and his band.

It was an excellent show! He is an amazing guitarist and his last album is very great. Looking forward seeing him again with the Violators!

Very folk and rock!

I bought his last vinyle on the way home, Bottle It In.

Kurt Vile announces new EP ‘Back To Moon Beach’ and 2024 North American tour dates

The first single, 'Another good year for the roses', is out now

Kurt Vile

Kurt Vile has announced a new EP called ‘Back To Moon Beach’ along with a 2024 North American tour.

The new project’s first single, ‘Another good year for the roses’, is out now, with the full EP due for release on November 17 via Verve. Pre-order it here .

Alongside news of the EP, the US singer-songwriter has announced a string of 2024 North American tour dates, following his UK and European run this summer.

The artist will kick off at The Ottobar in Baltimore, Maryland on March 17, 2024, with stops planned for Tennessee, Arkansas, New Orleans and more, before it finishes up at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia on March 29.

Support will come from King Kong and Weak Signal on select dates, and tickets go on sale this Friday, October 27 at 10am local time from Vile’s website .

In a statement shared to social media, Vile noted that the new release is “longer than an ep”, and that he now calls it a now “KV comp”.

“The first 6 tracks — which are the ones that fit on a single LP — are new to the world, with one foot in the not-too-distant past and the other with one tiny toe pointing toward the future. Together my feet are like a couple spanning time together.”

He continued: “Four songs on this comp were started at Stinson Beach, CA in September 2019 for a few days of recording with Rob Laakso, Stella Mozgawa, Chris Cohen, Cate Le Bon (and Adam Langellotti floating as a fly on the wall as well).

“Adam and I being the two overseers across this entire endeavor: we finished it on our own (and with some friends along the way). We ended up demonically overdubbing for weeks straight at OKV Central, Philly (my studio)… this was all of May 2023… so many magic moments.

He went on to describe his influences, including Cohen and Le Bon, adding that it was “an honour to simultaneously work with and become friends with both of them at once and for the first time”.

“Others like Rob Laakso and Stella Mozgawa, well, they’re cosmic family to me and we’ve gone to outer space together many times over the years (and whenever we want),” he continued.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kurt Vile (@kurtvile)

“Adam Langellotti is a comparatively new member of the family but has been an official member of the Violators since the release of ( watch my moves ) — but was a recording partner in Philly for the making of that album from start to finish — and I’m just stoked i have a partner to go to outer space with — on the stage and in the studio — (whenever we want!).

“Farmer Dave Scher is family too from the old days and he rescued some o’ these tunes at Mant Sounds, Los Angeles just a couple days after our beloved Rob Laakso left this earth.

Vile concluded: “Sending lots of love out. The only word is love to see us through. The world is heavy. If this song takes your mind off things for 5 minutes that’s all I can hope for. Give peace a chance. Love, KV.”

‘Back to Moon Beach’ EP tracklisting:

1. ‘Another good year for the roses’ 2. ‘Touched somethin (caught a virus)’ 3. ‘Back to Moon Beach’ 4. ‘Like a wounded bird trying to fly’ 5. ‘Blues come for some’ 6. ‘Tom Petty’s gone (but tell him i asked for him)’ 7. ‘Must Be Santa’ 8. ‘Passenger side’ 9. ‘Cool Water (Single Mix)’

Kurt Vile Tour Crew Gets Console Support from Britannia Row

  • By: FOH Staff
  • July 28, 2023

kurt vile tour support

The Philadelphia psych rock star’s audio crew continues to choose Britannia Row Productions for equipment rental and international tour support. Pictured here, FOH engineer Aaron Brody and monitor engineer Erich Miller.

UK-EUROPE – Following a Spring visit to Australia and New Zealand, Kurt Vile and The Violators hit the road in the UK and Europe touring in support of the 2022 studio album, Watch My Moves. Britannia Row provided audio support including a DiGiCo SD12 with SD rack for FOH Engineer Aaron Brody and an Avid Venue S6L for Erich Miller at monitors.

More details from Britannia Row ( www.britanniarow.com ):

kurt vile tour support

FOH Engineer Aaron Brody

FOH Engineer Aaron Brody began working with Vile six years ago, and as of last year, has been pulling double duty as Tour Manager. “We’ve been with Brit Row since I started working with Kurt, when I was originally mixing monitors. He’s actually the first artist I’ve toured with overseas, and this has given me the ability to rent a production package,” he says.

“I love working with Brit Row; the prep days in their shop are the best! It’s important to know, when you’re mixing and tour managing, that your gear is going to be right for the job. I try to be as specific as I can, down to the length of cables, and I know on arrival at Brit Row that everything will be in place, exactly how I’ve asked for  it.”

Out front, Brody requires a small yet perfectly defined rider, packaged with precision, thanks to Brit Row Account Executive Dave Compton’s expertise.

Brody continues: “I used to take a lot more outboard out with me, but over the years, I’ve really paired it back, and I find that works for Kurt’s mix. I’ve been diving deeper into the world of snapshots because I think there’s a higher value to a mix in snapshots than there is in a bunch of fancy toys. This allows my mix to translate no matter where I am in the world.

“In that sense, I’m relying more on what my desk has to offer, rather than extra elements. I’m focusing on system control and system processing, which I tend to do through the Lake LM44. I also like Rupert Neve Designs’ Master Buss Compressor. In fact, I never leave home without that!”

The desk Brody is relying on is a recent switch to a DiGiCo SD12 with SD Rack. “I like the sound of a DiGiCo desk… It has this sort of British charm, and I’m having a blast on it. It can really show you where you’re at as an engineer, and I think I’ve grown into being able to use it. It’s been a positive swap for the band,” he adds.

Brody explains his mix is “good straight out of the desk”, given that they’re using house PAs across this club circuit. “I just tune the room as best I can, and we run a virtual sound check every day. My favorite thing about the console is its flexible layout, and the custom banking, which works better for my workflow. The dynamic EQ on every input channel in Groups is incredible, that’s a real selling point for me.”

He continues: “You can’t do that on other desks without the use of plug-ins, and it also helps to control the mix. The warmth and the tube emulations are pretty great if used, too.”

A keen multi-instrumentalist, Vile has used a Telefunken M80 for many years, while a microphone package comprising Shure, Sennheiser, Behringer and Beyerdynamic are spread stage wide for his Violators.

Vile plays acoustic and electric guitars while singing, and his four-piece live band switches between bass, keys, and guitar.

Brody describes this live arrangement as “entirely different” to the records. “The albums are nothing like the live show; I asked Kurt about this early on, the way he wanted it to sound, and the aim is to be a lot more ‘in your face’, with big guitars and bigger drum sounds. I describe it as wider and more hi-fi.”

Erich Miller at monitors

In monitor world, new crew member Erich Miller is enjoying his first outing with Brit Row.

He begins: “I live in Philadelphia, about an hour from Clair Global, so although I’ve known a lot of people that have worked for them, I didn’t know Brit Row personally before this tour. If a company is associated with Clair, I know that we’d be very well taken care of, and we absolutely have been.”

Miller has inherited an Avid Venue S6L, a desk he says has been a long time preference.

“I’ve used Avid for years, so I find it definitely does whatever I want it to. The scene management is really straightforward, and as I’ve got to know the band and learn what they like individually, I make adjustments and save it on the fly so the next day I can recall it quickly. We multi-track the shows, and because we do virtual sound check, I can go through and make any adjustments to the scenes I need to at a later date.

“I see my job as making sure that everyone is comfortable on stage. The last thing you want to do as a monitor engineer is fish through a bunch of stuff to solve a problem. Whatever they need, I like to have it at my fingertips,” he adds.

“The whole experience has been great. On my first prep day at Brit Row, when I was in the back of the rack putting my stuff together, a freelancer named Stacey Handley came over to do it for me. By the time I could even finish my thought about what I wanted to go where, she was already pulling the connectors out and adapting the rig just as I wanted! The service is fantastic,” he confirms.

Brody closes by explaining that there’s an “honesty” in the Kurt Vile camp, which has encouraged him to step into his dual roles, and to bring Miller into the fold.

“It’s just an easy-going tour,” he says. “It’s not the biggest gig in the world, it’s not the smallest, but management let me bring the control package I want, no questions asked. And to work with a company like Brit Row, which I totally trust to deliver it, well, there’s freedom in that.

“Ultimately, we’re all just having a good time together!”

Kurt Vile and The Violators Announce New Tour Dates, Including a Stop at Jacksonville’s Intuition Ale Works

Image

Singer-songwriter and purveyor of certi fried guitar-pop tunes Kurt Vile has expanded his upcoming tour, announcing additional spring dates, including a visit to Jacksonville to perform at the Bier Hall inside Intuition Ale Works on Thursday, May 9. The announcement comes as Vile’s latest, the extensive extended player Back to Moon Beach has earned critical adoration and broad airplay, floating around the top of the college charts since its release in late 2023.

Ostensibly a collection of songs Vile deemed “non-album material,” Back to Moon Beach proves the depth of Vile’s creative well and showcases the diversity of his creative partnerships. The EP’s first single, “ Another good year for the roses ,” is a catchy, arpeggiated-piano-driven number that features both Welsh avant-pop artist-producer Cate Le Bon and Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa. The foundation of “roses,” and much of the core of Back to Moon Beach , was laid in NorCal as a gathering of indie-famous musicians – which included longtime Violator Rob Laakso and Deerhoof’s Chris Cohen – holed up in a studio near the famously sharky Stinson Beach.

Aside from the melodious ivory tickles, “roses” features Vile’s trademark frizzled guitar leads and enjoyably off-kilter lyricism: “Man, these days I do I whatever I want / Tone out the rest, ‘til something wakes me from a rest / Tone out the rest, ‘til something arresting awaits me.”  Back to Moon Beach also features a made-for-radio version of the watch my moves track “Cool Water” and Vile’s covers of Wilco’s “Passenger Side” and Bob Dylan’s “Must Be Santa,” (featuring vocals by the Vile’s daughters Awilda and Delphine).

Back to Moon Beach is just the latest offering from Vile, whose unique approach — singular guitar playing, arch and jesting wordplay and laid-back vocal delivery — has made him one of the most popular independent musicians of the 21st century. The one-time guitarist for the War On Drugs (that band’s singer-guitarist, Adam Granduciel, also played in Vile’s backing band, the Violators for a spell) emerged from the early-aughts-Philadelphia music scene as a self-proclaimed Constant Hitmaker – a moniker he’s lived up to across nearly a dozen albums, from his aforementioned solo debut to 2013’s Wakin on a Pretty Daze to 2022’s watch my moves, and collaborations with a litany of other artists, including Courtney Barnett.

Kurt Vile plays Intuition Ale Works on Thursday, May 9. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 9. Once the sale goes live, you can access the ticket link via our live music calendar ( here ) or Intuition’s website ( here ). Full list of Kurt Vile and the Violators spring tour dates below.

Music and concerts | kurt vile brings different approach on tour, which stops at miller symphony hall saturday.

Kurt Vile and his band The Violators will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at Miller Symphony Hall in Allentown. (Adam Wallacavage)

As Kurt Vile headed back out on the road on the latest round of dates in support of his latest album, “Watch My Moves,” he thought he’d take a different approach in his shows compared to previous tours.

“This is actually the first time where we got this (new) record where we do want to play a lot of it,” he said in a phone interview before his show with his band the Violators at 7 p.m. Saturday at Miller Symphony Hall in Allentown as part of a concert to salute 75 years of Muhlenberg College student radio station WMUH-FM. “We’ve rehearsed most of the record, but I feel like this finally is the first record where we could and should (also) mix it up every night just so we’re not playing too long. But there are a lot of songs we want to get to.”

“I think also, with the last record (“Bottle It In”), we would get stuck playing the same set every night, get stuck in a loop after awhile,” Vile added. “You’d go to soundcheck and you soundcheck the same songs. We’re trying to avoid that.”

A more malleable set list and room to spontaneously sub in a song that originally wasn’t in the set list would seem to fit Vile’s musical character. Describing his music is a rather elusive task, as the ways in which he mixes folk, psychedelic rock, and various shades of pop, jazz and other styles make his music hard to categorize. And there’s a spontaneous, exploratory feel to Vile’s music that would seem to encourage improvisation and resist the uniformity of a set list that stays the same throughout a tour.

That said, Vile also sees the value in developing and sticking to a single set list that works well for a tour. The playing tends to get sharper over time and there is still room for variables that keep things fresh from night to night.

“Things get tighter night after night and there are oceans of variables within a couple of chords, so every night can be a little different (even with the same set list),” Vile said.

Vile is happy enough with “Watch My Moves” to want to play many of the new songs live and he’s eager to promote the album. He has even said it’s probably the best representation of him that’s been captured on any of his albums.

“I stand by all of my albums, but I think I just know that (on “Watch My Moves”) when I hear my vocal, it just feels like I’m in the room. It just cuts right through,” Vile said. “And I’m not like, I’m not trying to prove anything. I’ve kind of just lived my life up to this point. I know what I’m capable of and I also know that songs, they just fall into my brain and out of my guitar. I just know how to sort of capture them. Some are more solid than others, but my idea was to put all the best (new) songs that I had so far on this record and I did my best version of that I could.”

Stylistically, “Watch My Moves” isn’t far afield from Vile’s other albums. Like his other albums, new songs such as “Like Exploding Stones” and “Mount Airy Hill (Way Gone)” share a similar hazy quality and fall somewhere between rock, folk and pop, while “Jesus on a Wire” and “Cool Water” offer a more delicate and straight-forward pop/folk sound. Overall, “Watch My Moves” doesn’t hit you in the face with hooks or power chords; instead, it’s fairly laid back, with melodic nuggets and ear worms that tend to reveal themselves and deliver more impact with subsequent listens.

One development that Vile thinks helped “Watch My Moves” was for the first time he had a fully functioning home studio in which to work, and about half of the album was recorded there.

In a sense, this represents a return to Vile’s creative roots. An original member of the band the War On Drugs, Vile started transitioning to a solo career after touring with that band in support of the 2008 War On Drugs debut album, “Wagonwheel Blues.”

Vile’s solo debut, “Constant Hitmaker,” arrived that same year, followed by “God Is Saying This to You…” in 2009. Both of those albums were made up mainly of home recordings, and Vile sees “Watch My Moves” as a return to his home recording ways (where he feels more free creatively than in a typical studio environment), albeit with the ability to attain professional fidelity sound when he wants.

“I’m trying to get back to my roots, for sure, in that way, with my guard fully down, but more high fidelity when desired, more professional, all of those things combined. I think I captured all of that (on “Watch My Moves”), but it’s still pretty raw. So it’s a little bit of everything.”

Vile moved on to making albums in studios with his third album, “Childish Prodigy,” and landed a deal with Matador Records with that album. He went on to release four more well received solo albums on Matador, including the highly regarded “Smoke Ring Halo” in 2011 and a slew of EPs, as well as a collaborative album with Courtney Barnett, “Lotta Sea Lice,” in 2017.

The pandemic slowed Vile’s musical output, as “Watch My Moves” arrived nearly four years after his previous solo album, “Bottle It In.” But the 43-year-old Pennsylvania native said he was already planning to scale back on his touring and give himself some breathers in his schedule before COVID forced his hand.

“I literally planned for a break. I said I wasn’t going to travel for awhile, all those things. But in reality, it’s easier said than done because the offers still come,” Vile said. “I just realized, I don’t think I can be gone constantly. I felt like I had to before. I didn’t have to be, but in another way, yes I did. To get where I am today, I had to take all of the work and put myself out there. And I do want to be out there. I want to promote the (“Watch My Moves”) record and I love to play music, and then when I’m out there, it feels right. But I just didn’t have any routine at home anymore. I would just be spent and be tired and want to take it easy.”

Vile made one other major move during the pandemic. He moved from Matador to Verve Records, which is best known for the many elite jazz artists that recorded for the label (Ella Fitzgerald, Bill Evans and Nina Simone among others) as well as rock acts the Velvet Underground and Frank Zappa and the Mothers. Vile, a big Velvet Underground fan, said Verve’s history was appealing.

“I was flattered that they offered it (a contract) to me,” Vile said. “I like to buy into the ghosts and the myth of a label, but ultimately at the end of the day, I just liked the people that were there and it was just an opportunity. It was interesting that it wasn’t just an indy rock album label. I didn’t know if I could reach a new audience through it (Verve), but I was intrigued by the possibility that could easily (happen), just a different set of hands and a different audience. I think I’m always wanting to broaden my audience.”

Press release:

Philadelphia psych-pop master Kurt Vile and his band The Violators are making their triumphant return to Aotearoa for three very special shows.

A long-time favourite with New Zealand audiences, this formidable live outfit will be here playing in support of Vile’s celebrated recent album (watch my moves).

Kurt’s ninth studio album finds him truly at the top of his songwriting game. His first for legendary label Verve Records, (watch my moves) has garnered glowing praise from fans and press alike, and features notable guest appearances from the likes of Chastity Belt, Cate Le Bon, and Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint.

On his latest album, Vile pulls his talents in unexpected directions—and the result is a vibrant, yet meditative album propelled by Vile’s laid-back charm and curious spirit. Every lyric has been chiselled down into an aphorism, every bloom of distorted guitar or murmuring synth helping create that “fried” pop.

“It’s about songwriting. It’s about lyrics. It’s about being the master of all domains in the music,” says Vile of the new record, much of which was recorded at OKV Central, Vile’s Philadelphia home studio. “I’ve come into my own here, and at the same time I’m getting back to my home-recording roots.”

Don’t miss this guitar hero and his rockin’, road tested band when Kurt Vile & The Violators return to NZ for the first time since their 2019 tour.
