Very professional service provided, they answered our queries immediately & the guides were always on time, very nice & informative. The included food was delicious, we couldn’t fault it & there was plenty of vegetarian options for us. Only con was one of the tour guides tried to pressure us into doing a quad bike tour of the chocolate hills for an additional cost. I made it clear i didn’t want to but he took us to the quad bikes anyway. Good job I wasn’t embarrassed to say no to the people that worked there (clearly his friends). Other than that we had no problems with the rest of the tour & the other tour guides were lovely.

East Philippines One Life Adventures - 10 Day Tour

Well organised tour, perfect for water sports enthusiasts and partygoers. Gives a glimpse of what Philippines has to offer, to first time travellers to the country. Loved visiting the Badjao school and the Motag Living Museum. Didn’t enjoy going into Badjao people’s homes, felt it was intrusive. Other interesting activities included a visit to the Tarsier sanctuary and the Chocolate Hills. Accommodation provided is very good, better to opt for your own room if you are a solo traveller. The tour can be hectic at times, especially the first few days, some events require getting up at 3 am! The tour can be improved by including more Filipino tour guides who can give an indepth historical and cultural perspective, and ease the work for the main guide. Day 9 is free and Day 10 is just travel to the airport, so if you don’t have much to do in Boracay, you can leave on the 9th day. This was the inaugural East Philippines tour and it was well done for a first time attempt.

12 Days Ultimate Manila and Cebu - Philippines Island Hopping Tour

12 Days Ultimate Manila and Cebu - Philippines Island Hopping

The trip was amazing and recommended, but for future travelers, we recommend the following changes to the itinerary. 1. On the day you travel from Manila to Bohol, instead of going in three different cars, a flight to Cebu and a Ferry, you should just take a flight from Manila to Bohol airport, which is just 15 min from Bohol South Beach resort. 2. On the day you travel from Dumaguete to Cebu, you should stop at the falls, and spend a night in Moalboal (instead of Cebu), the next morning you should do the island hopping and after that drive to Cebu for 2 nights. That arrangement will save about 7 hours of travel on the day you go to Bohol and another 7 hours driving on the day you travel from Cebu to the falls.

Amazing tour for the experienced traveller or first timer. Eye opening moments, beautiful beaches, great food and a fantastic tour guide. The 10 day tour was well planned with a good amount of planned activities and also free time to explore solo or with new friends. Would recommend this for anyone looking for an adventure of a lifetime!!

My Wander Story

1-Day Bohol Tour Itinerary

1-Day Bohol Tour Itinerary

Back in 2016, I went to Bohol for a birthday vacay with my mother. It’s my mother’s hometown and this will be my second time in Bohol. When I first went here, I was in my kindergarten years, so young that I hardly remember anything about this place. That’s why I decided to travel with my mom here.

During that time, I don’t have my blog yet to document everything. But I have my experience and lots of photos to show you.

We stayed there for four days and we allocate 1 day for our Bohol tour. Good thing my uncle’s job is a driver/tour guide for Bohol tours.

FUN FACTS: The island province of Bohol is the 10th largest island in the Philippines. Located in the central part of the Visayas lying between Cebu to the northwest and Leyte to the northeast.

Here’s the itinerary that he prepared for us for our 1-day Bohol tour.

Hinagdanan Cave

Since we were staying in Dumaluan Panglao, our first destination is the Hinagdanan cave located in the municipality of Dauis on Panglao Island, in the Bohol Province of the Philippines.

Hinagdanan Cave is made of limestone with 100-meter beautiful rock formations. Inside is a greenish lagoon with a depth of  12-15 feet deep.

Blood Compact Shrine Monument

Our next stop is the Blood Compact Shrine Monument. This landmark depicts the First International Treaty of Friendship between Miguel Lopez de Legazpi (the Spanish explorer) and Daku Sikatuna (the chieftain) on March 1, 1565. Locally called as “Sandugo”, means “One Blood”, can be found at Bool District in Tagbilaran City. Aside from this monument by Napoleon Abueva, you can also enjoy the ocean view in the background.

Baclayon Church (La Purisima Concepcion de la Virgen Maria Parish Church)

This is what my mom is looking forward to visit, the Baclayon Chuch or also called La Purisima Concepcion de la Virgen Maria Parish Church. It is considered the second oldest stone church in the Philippines and a National Cultural Treasure. Established in the late 16th century, the church became a parish in 1717. Baclayon church was constructed out of coral stones but the facade was destroyed by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake back on October 15, 2013.

There are an old convent and a museum with centuries-old artifacts, religious relics, and other antiques. Take note that you are not allowed to take pictures of some parts of it.

Loboc River Cruise Floating Restaurants

One of the famous tourist destinations in the province of Bohol is the Loboc River Cruise. The pump boats and floating restaurants will take you upstream passing by Nipa trees, Coconut trees, and other tropical floras that will make your experience very comfortable and relaxing. It’s the perfect spot to grab our lunch as they serve lunch and dinner buffet.

While enjoying the wonderful scenery and your food, you will also be entertained by some local performers.

Tarsier Sanctuary

Bohol is famous for its tarsier. Tarsiers were known as the world’s smallest primates that only weigh for about 113-142 grams. They have mesmerizing eyes and their tail is longer than their body. It’s amazing to see them move their head as they have the ability to turn their head for about 180 degrees. How cool is that?

This Tarsier Sanctuary is located within the forest land at Barangay Canapnapan, Corella with approximately 134 hectares wide.  A local tour guide will orient you (dos and don’ts) and will guide you to find them. Just a few reminders, make sure no flash on the camera and no loud noise.

Bilar Man-Made Forest

Bilar is our next destination and this two-kilometer stretch of densely planted Mahogany trees is just something to look forward to.  The Mahogany Man-made forest that spans from Loboc to Bilar is part of Rajah Sikatuna Protected Landscape.

We were captivated by its kaleidoscope of green foliage and different species of giant ferns. So if you pass by, make sure to stop and take pictures but be careful of the passing vehicles!

Habitat Butterflies Conservation Center

Still, in Bilar, 5 minutes from the Bilar Man-Made Forest, is the Habitat Butterflies Conservation Center.  It’s a simple butterfly sanctuary which aims to protect the butterfly population through breeding. You can see the butterfly garden, a restaurant, and a souvenir shop. After paying the entrance fee, a tour guide will usher you through the entire experience.

Butterfly habitat Bohol Tour - My Wander Story

Just along the highway of Poblacion Norte, Batuan, you will see this unique house shaped like a shipping vessel. The Shiphaus is a house owned by  Capt. Gaudencio Dumapias. It’s a few minutes from Bilar and just on the way to the famous Chocolate Hills.  Inside the ShipHaus you will find the chief mates cabin, captain’s cabin, kitchen, mess hall, and more.

ShipHaus - My Wander Story Bohol Tour

Chocolate Hills

Your Bohol tour will never be complete if you won’t be able to see Bohol’s signature attraction, the Chocolate Hills. Though there are more than a thousand haycock hills spread over several municipalities,  visitors can see and experience the Chocolate Hills in Carmen, Bohol. These hills range from 40-120 meters in height. The origin of its name comes from the fact that on hot summer days the hills turn brown that looks like a Hershey’s Chocolate Kisses.

Chocolate Hills 2 - My Wander Story Bohol Tour

Entrance Fee: Php 50.00

It was a fun experience. I finally have the chance to see the beauty of Bohol, my mom’s hometown, for the first time. I paid my uncle Php 3,500 for the tour. There are a lot of Bohol tour packages that you can find online or even ask your hotel for assistance. The best way to save for a tour is joining a group tour.

I want you to share your Bohol experience with us on the comment section below.

Bohol Overview

There are exactly 7,641 islands (!) in the Philippines , but Bohol is surely one of the most diverse and interesting ones you can pick to visit.

If you visit Bohol alone you get a decent idea of what the entire country is all about. An eco-tourism paradise suited for adventurers. Tropical beaches (not the best ones in the country, but we’ll get to that), lush jungle, friendly people and top-notch diving spots all in the same place.

But Bohol checks all those boxes and raises the parade with some unique experiences that you can’t find anywhere else. Odd landscapes like the Chocolate Hills . Architectural heritage from Spanish colonization. Or the endangered tarsier, the smallest mammal in the world.

In other words: in case you’re still having FOMO about the itinerary for your Philippines trip, don’t. Bohol is absolutely a great choice.

How to get to Bohol island

Whether you come by air or by sea, the main point of entry to the island is Tagbilaran City . It’s less than an hour’s drive to the adjacent island of Panglao , where most visitors stay.

If your hotel doesn’t have the transfer included, you can easily arrange a van, taxi or tricycle to get to Panglao . We paired up with a group of tourists and were able to negotiate a van for five.

Here’s how you can get to Bohol from other places in the Philippines .

Manila to Bohol ✈️

The easiest way to get to Bohol from Manila is by plane (1h30). There are several airlines flying from Manila to Tagbilaran airport in Bohol :

  • Cebu Pacific
  • Philippines Airlines

Flights are generally inexpensive but book ahead to guarantee a good price.

Cebu to Bohol ⛴️

bohol travel guide itinerary tagbilaran to cebu ferry oceanjet

The best way to get from Cebu to Bohol is to use the fast ferry (a 2-hour trip).

There are mainly two main ferry companies that do the route Cebu City – Tagbilaran several times per day: SuperCat and Ocean Jet .

Ocean Jet is slightly more expensive (800-1000 pesos), but from what I’ve seen the boats seemed newer and more comfortable. Keep an eye on special promos they offer sometimes.

You can purchase tickets in advance directly from the company websites, or through third-party providers like 12Go Asia .

Alternatively, just head to the ferry terminal and get your tickets there, to be honest, it’s unlikely they’ll be sold out.

Ferry schedules between Cebu and Bohol (updated September 2018)

  • Supercat : 5:50,8:15,11:00,13:15,15:35,18:00

Dumaguete to Bohol ⛴️

A 2-hour ferry trip is the best way to travel from Dumaguete to Bohol (Tagbilaran) . Ocean Jet makes this trip twice a day (9:50 and 14:30).

Siquijor to Bohol ⛴️

If you’re in the beautiful island of Siquijor and want to get to Bohol, Ocean Jet makes this trip once a day (12:30). It connects Larena pier in Siquijor to Tagbilaran in Bohol .

Best time to visit Bohol

Like most of the Philippines , Bohol has a tropical climate, which means very rarely the temperatures drops below 20 degrees Celsius. This would make Bohol pleasant for a visit at any time of the year… if it wasn’t for the rainfall. This the key!

June to December is normally considered the rainy season – you can expect much less sunny days around this time. Heavy frequent showers are more common between August and October when the southwest monsoon prevails. You’ll want to avoid this time to visit. Late December is also a peak season for locals so there will likely find more crowds and inflated prices in Bohol .

Anywhere between January and June is a good time to visit Bohol . If you come right after the end of the rainy reason – January to March – the rice fields are still vivid green, everything looks more fresh , and photo ops multiply. If you decide to come between April and June, fields will be likely more brown, including the almighty Chocolate Hills .

My weather experience in Bohol

I visited Bohol in mid-December. The temperatures were warm without being unbearable. However it was still very unpredictable. The weather changed from a clear sunny day to heavy stormy showers in a short bike ride. We were struck by surprise twice when we were on the road.

The good thing is that the rain never lasted for long. 1 hour tops. And being soaked while driving just made us appreciate the warm sunny weather even more!

Weather in Bohol

To help you understand better how does weather work in Bohol , here is some more detailed info about temperature and rainfall.

average temperatures bohol philippines

What to pack

Don’t overthink your clothing options too much. As a tropical island with almost-constant temperatures all-year-round, with light summer clothes, you’ll be fine. Pick comfortable and breathable pieces.

A light rain jacket is recommended – we never know when the occasional storm will appear – and you’ll also want to have long sleeve piece to enter churches.

Landscapes are incredible and the adventure activities are a must, so make sure you bring a good camera and consider getting a GoPro if you haven’t got one.

Other than that, don’t forget sunscreen, a snorkeling mask, and a dry bag to keep your stuff. The latter is super useful if you’re doing sea activities or to simply go to the beach.

bohol travel guide budget itinerary paddy fields

Getting around Bohol

Bohol is one of those places I absolutely recommend getting your own wheels. Not only the public transportation is unreliable, but it gives you freedom of schedules and itineraries. It can also be cheaper, with rates ranging from 300 PHP to 600 PHP per day. All depends on the number of days you’re renting and your haggling skills.

In fact, one of my best memories and experiences of Bohol was riding a bike around the island. You get to drive next to vivid green paddy fields, forests or just stunning beaches with a view to the Pacific.

You can also get around by tricycle , a kind of moto-taxi that has a capacity for about 3 people, give or take. They usually don’t have meters and prices are haggled by destination. For a journey of about 10km, expect to pay around 400-450 PHP.

Other more local ways of transportation include jeepneys and buses .

Getting from Tagbilaran to Panglao

Most travelers arrive in Tagbilaran to then get to Alona or Dumaluan in Panglao , where most beach accommodation is located. To make this trip, you have some options:

  • Hire a taxi. Most convenient but also more expensive.
  • Hire a tricycle. It should be around 500 pesos.
  • Go on a van. Share it with other people – just ask around – and haggle the price down.

We ended up sharing a van with other travelers to Alona . We were 5 in total paying 400 pesos, which totals a very inexpensive 80 pesos per person!

Are tours in Bohol worth it?

As I mentioned, personally I feel the best way to explore Bohol is to get your own wheels. There’s no need for tours if you’re young, active and know how to ride a motorbike – it adds to the adventurous vibe of the island after all.

However, there are some pre-defined day tours to explore the island – these will cost around 500 PHP to 1500 PHP per person. These are usually rushed, covering all the main sights of Bohol in one day.

Jeepneys and tricycles in Bohol

bohol travel guide budget itinerary getting around jeepney

Jeepney is a local’s favorite and prices depend on the distance. Most jeepneys going along the south side of the island depart from Dao Terminal, including Baclayon , Carmen and Jagna . They’re mostly used by locals.

Don’t expect luxury. Jeepneys are often old and overcrowded. While the experience of a ride amongst dozens of Filipinos as well as animals like chickens (and other random creatures) might be appealing, note that distances in Bohol often mean more than 1-hour long trips.

You can also hire a tricycle driver to get you around Bohol for the day. This can cost you between 800-1000 pesos per day.

Fun fact: did you know tricycle drivers are obliged to place verses from the Bible on the back of their vehicle? Yes, it’s a mandatory law by the Government!

Vans and buses in Bohol

Air-conditioned vans with capacity for 10-11 people are also available. However, they tend to depart from the Dao terminal only when they are absolutely packed with more than 15 people.

Buses going North of the island – Loon , Calape and Tubigon for instance – start from Kogon Market in Tagbilaran .

What to do in Bohol

Bohol is a perfect for for adventurers and nature enthusiasts. The island is packed with 7 outdoor experiences and unique activities .

If you’re looking for a more relaxed time, hop on a river cruise in Loboc or hit the white-sand beaches of the twin-island of Panglao await you.

To make things visual, I’ve prepared a map of all the main sights in Bohol . In purple the main towns; in orange the main sights; in blue the main beaches.

Tarsier Sanctuary (the real one!)

🇵🇭 PHILIPPINES | 🐒Sanctuary. This little guy is a tarsier and is the smallest primate in the world (size of a human fist! 😅). It’s also one of the most endangered animals: there only 130 left in the wild worldwide. He needs an hectare of forest to live and when kept in cages, he often attempts suicide. It’s a hard task to protect him but sanctuaries like this one in Bohol are key to make this alien-like creature thrive! #Philippines #itsmorefuninph #boholovers #primate #Bohol #animal #tarsier #ig_NeverStopExploring #WanderOut #Destination_Earth #NatGeoTravel #BeautifulMatters #TourThePlanet #TheGlobeWanderer #OurPlanetDaily #boholphilippines #WeLiveToExplore #wwf #PassionPassport #MyTinyAtlas #WildernessCulture #TravelPhotography #lonelyplanettraveller #Goph #the_ph #comeseeph #traversePhilippines #TravelStoriesPH #travel_philippines Uma publicação partilhada por BRUN🌎, The Travel Geek (@bruno_mb) a Dez 11, 2016 às 6:14 PST

When in Bohol you’ll see that are quite a few tarsier “sanctuaries” in Bohol . Make sure you go to the Tarsier Sanctuary near Corella , the only “real” one.

They have less than a dozen animals, but it’s the only place where they live in the wild and have enough space to have an acceptable quality of life. See, when they tarsiers don’t have an hectare of forest to live and are enclosed in little cages, they often attempt suicide. 😥

Corella Tarsier Sanctuary

  • Ticket price: 60 pesos
  • How to get there: Follow the road to Corella and Sikatuna , turn left on the fitting Tarsier Sanctuary Road. There are buses from Tagbilaran to Sikatuna where you can drop off nearby too.
  • What to do: Your main task is to spot the tiny tarsiers in the middle of the trees!

Loboc River

bohol travel guide budget itinerary loboc river hanging bridge

I found Loboc to be one of the most interesting little towns in Bohol . People are friendly and the setting is beautiful, right next to the jungle-resembling Loboc River .

Next to it, the Baclayon and San Pedro churches, destroyed during the 2013 earthquake that stroke the Philippines are there to remind of the country’s Spanish colonial past.

Loboc is also popular for its cruises that take you up and down the river, and often include a fancy meal aboard.

  • Ticket price: N/A
  • How to get there: Loboc is nearly halfway between Tagbilaran and the Chocolate Hills.
  • What to do: From the popular floating restaurants to mountain biking & paddleboarding tours, there’s a lot to do here. Don’t miss the iconic bamboo bridge!

Chocolate Hills

travel guide of bohol philippines chocolate hills

Probably the most iconic postcard of Bohol , the Chocolate Hills are a geological formation consisting of 1,776 conical-shaped hills ranging from 30 to 120 meters high. The name comes from the fact that during the dry season they change their color to a light brown color. In the rest of the year, they’re actually a lovely vivid green!

The Chocolate Hills Complex is located in Carmen , in the very center of Bohol . The road there wanders across beautiful paddy field sceneries but nothing prepared me for the moment I got to the viewpoint. The hundreds of identical hills going as far as your eyes can see are dazzling. Don’t miss this.

  • Ticket price: 50 PHP
  • How to get there: Follow the road to Carmen . After you pass the Man-Made forest, it’s a fairly straight ride. If you’re on a a bus, take one at Tagbilaran bus station heading to Carmen . You can ask the driver to drop you off at the Chocolate Hills .
  • What to do: On a clear day, you can spend hours admiring the landscape.

Balicasag Island

bohol travel guide balicasag

The Marine Sanctuary of Balicasag is a world-class diving spot. Featuring rich wildlife of fish, dolphins, turtles, and corals it’s a must if you’re into the underwater world.

That said, there have been rising environmental concerns regarding snorkeling. The high number of boats with careless tourists touching starfishes and turtles (they’re sensitive to human bacteria) and swimming with sunscreen on (whose chemicals can literally destroy the corals). Please be aware of this when going there.

To get away from it all, you can also spend the night in Balicasag Island Dive Resort .

  • Ticket price: Don’t pay more than 300 PHP if you’re going on a organized tour
  • How to get there: Join an organized tour or haggle with a boatmen to take you there on a outrigger
  • What to do: Snorkeling and diving are the main highlights here.

Beaches of Bohol & Panglao

bohol philippines travel guide budget itinerary dumaluan beach

To be completely honest, I was expecting more from the beaches in Panglao . My biggest disappointment was the infamous Alona Beach . What once was a tropical paradise, now it’s a dirty overcrowded beach, full of restaurants, bars and dodgy stalls oriented for mass tourism.

I’ve toured across other beaches and whether was the trash, the algae or the total absence of sand to lay in, they all seemed they needed some kind of maintenance.

While Bohol has Anda Beach , a rising eco-tourism hotspot, most beaches are actually located in the twin island of Panglao . On the map it looks like an appendix , but this place boasts a different vibe from Bohol .

Panglao is packed with at least a dozen white-sand beaches to choose from. Some of them boast beautiful palm trees, clean sand, and crystal clear beaches, especially if they are maintained by resorts or hotels. In this category, Dumaluan Beach was my favorite.

If you’re a beach bum and mostly want beach time, there are better islands in the Philippines .

Beaches in Panglao and Bohol

  • Alona Beach : don’t matter what Google images tell you, skip it. What it used to be a picture-perfect beach in Panglao , today is a mega-touristy and rather depressing stretch of sand full of boats, trash and restaurants.
  • Anda Beach : unspoiled stretches of sand in the southeast tip of Bohol . A great choice if you’re looking for the off the beaten track.
  • White Beach : packed at first, but pretty secluded after a 10-minute walk. I still found some plastic and trash on the sand, but nothing dramatic.
  • Dumaluan Beach : awesome. You need to pay an entrance fee to the STUNNING Bohol Beach Club , but it’s worth it. This the kind of beach you see in travel magazines.
  • Doljo Beach : the scenery here is stunning. The sand is so white it creates a natural mirror during low-tide. Lots of starfish. I didn’t find it amazing for swimming though.
  • San Isidro Beach : super disappointed with the level of trash and low level of sand. The way I’d describe it: a dirty rocky bay.
  • Danao Beach : another one not inviting enough to lay around for long.

Sample Bohol Itinerary

Find below a suggested itinerary to explore Bohol and Panglao . Even though I’ve created a list of sights up until 5 full days available in Bohol , I’d say 2 full days is the absolute minimum to have a well-rounded experience of the island.

This itinerary is in order. If you only have 3 days available on the island, my suggestion is that you do the things on the first 3 rows.

Where to stay in Bohol

My first suggestion is to skip beach-front accommodation in Alona Beach . Firstly, all the prices are inflated. And then from what I’ve seen, I can hardly call it a “beach” anymore.

Basing yourself in Panglao is a good idea, specially if you’re looking for some beach-bum time. But instead, base yourself near Alona Beach . If your budget allows, don’t even think twice. Stay in Bohol Beach Club :

Bohol Beach Club

You might never want to leave this place. The setting is fantastic and right next to the best beach I’ve seen in the entire Philippines . Book now >>

I understand if you can’t spend that much. Here’s another suggestion of good value:

Bohol South Beach

Comfy hotel, cose to a private beach. The breakfast is rated as excellent.

Or make your own research:

Food in Bohol

bohol travel guide food chicken adobo

Compared to other places in Southeast Asia like in Vietnam , the food in Philippines can be somewhat disappointing.

Or maybe I was biased because I came to the Philippines coming from Ninh Binh in Vietnam which has some of the most delicious food I’ve tasted.

In any case, I had some pretty nice meals in Bohol .

What to eat in Bohol 🍳

  • Chicken Adobo : chicken marineted in a delicious rich sauce of vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, peppercorns and bay leaves
  • Kare-Kare : traditional Filipino stew complimented with a thick savory peanut sauce. Beef, pork, ox or chicken meats can be used.
  • Lechón : roasted suckling pig. I don’t eat babies so I didn’t try this, but I got to say it looked good!
  • Halo-halo : the most famous dessert in the Philippines . It’s a rather odd and indulging mix of shaved ice, jelly, sweet beans, coconut and fruits.

Places to eat in Bohol 🍽️

Bohol bee farm restaurant (panglao).

This restaurant in Panglao is part of a hotel with the same name and serves healthy, organic food.

The ingredients come from the owner’s farm and the view of the sea brings up the experience by a notch. They also have a smaller café right in Alona Beach – The Buzz Café – where I went religiously every evening for their organic ice creams.

Gerarda’s Place (Tagbilaran)

Located in Tagbilaran , this family-owned restaurant serves unpretentious, delicious and inexpensive food. Good for trying local flavors. Try the buttered chicken, actually served on butter!

The Wine Cellar (Panglao)

It’s on the higher end of the price spectrum but when you’re on vacations, sometimes you need a treat. Boasting a wide choice of Asian and European dishes and wines from Germany and Austria, you can rest assured to have a neat meal here.

Sunset Grill Authentic Mexican Food (Panglao)

Well, the name says it all! When you’re traveling through Asia , mixing things up with different flavors is a breath of fresh air. This authentic Mexican place with great food and big servings is the place to go.

Coco Loco (Anda)

One of those beach bars serving delicious food all-day-long. Come for the breakfast menus, stay for craft beers. Perfect spot to unwind, with the beach just a few steps away.

Cost of things in Bohol

To give you a good idea of the budget you can expect, I’ll give you some examples of what things can cost. The prices are up-to-date at the date of writing of this article.

Bohol budget and daily costs

  • Transportation : The ferry from Cebu on Ocean Jet was 500 pesos (plus extra 100 for the luggage). We haggled down the price of a van from Tagbilaran to Alona for 400 pesos.
  • Vehicle rentals : motorbikes can be rented from 350 pesos per day next to Alona Beach . I’m sure you can find for less in other more remote areas.
  • Gasoline : if you go to the petrol station, filling your tank can be as low as 100 pesos
  • Food : Local restaurants serve main dishes starting at 60 pesos, but on average a lunch would cost around 150-200 pesos. Some restaurants in Alona can be slightly more expensive during dinner: a full meal for 2 people starts at around 300 pesos. A beer starts at 40 pesos.
  • Water : don’t forget to hydrate! A big water bottle (1,5L) was around 15-25 pesos.
  • Accommodation : I’d say you can expect to pay somewhere between 1000 and 1600 pesos per day for a medium-quality double room in most places in Bohol . Even in Alona Beach . Of course there are backpacker dorms cheaper and resort rooms more expensive than this.
  • Entrance fees : everywhere you go in the Philippines you need to pay a small entrance fee (even in airport terminals!). See below the entrance fees for the main sights in Bohol .

I found the prices in Bohol to be in line as compared to other places in the Philippines and a bit lower than in touristy hotspots like El Nido .

If you’re traveling with more people, you can easily get around with less than 1000PHP or 50EUR/USD per day.

Bohol Travel Tips

  • Bring sunscreen. You can get burned easily if you’re not careful. Read other stuff to pack while traveling in Southeast Asia .
  • Always have some change and small money with you. In the Philippines (too) many places ask for a minimal entrance fee (even churches and airport terminals). They might just change their name to FEE-lipphines.
  • Don’t stay right in Alona Beach. Biased by Google Images results and promises of a tropical paradise, I almost made this mistake.

Bohol Review

Bohol stroke me as the most diverse place in the Philippines . While other islands excel in beaches or jungle landscapes, this one seems to have a bit of everything. Sort of a mini-showcase of the Philippines .

While the Chocolate Hills and Dumaluan Beach were definitely an highlight, my fondest memories were actually small things on the day-to-day. Like driving through the island. The winding roads through paddy fields and lush forests are beautiful to look at. The school kids waving at you and older people smiling every time you enter a restaurant or a shop.

The level of infrastructure is just right and it is suited for all kinds of people, from the budget backpacker to the most luxurious traveler. However, some places are starting to lose its charm and yes I’m speaking again of Alona Beach . What a disappointment!

In any case, Bohol is safe, friendly and the definition of adventure. If it’s your first time in the Philippines I highly recommend you stay for a few days.

Day 1 of Your 3 Day Bohol Itinerary

Philippine tarsier sanctuary (corella) .

The first activity on your 3 day Bohol itinerary is going to be meeting the cutest residents in the whole of the Philippines.

Tarsiers are one of the smallest primates in the world and they are sadly endangered. But you can visit them ethically at the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella.

Tarsiers are extremely shy and noise causes them so much stress that they have been known to kill themselves. In order to protect these lovable creatures, your visit will be led by a guide.

The guide will expect you to keep noise to a minimum and to not take photos with flash photography. It also goes without saying that you should keep your distance from them and not try to touch them.

Entrance to the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary is 60 PHP (1.20 USD) and this covers your admission and the mandatory guide who will escort you through the forest. The reserve is open daily, 9 am to 4 pm. You can buy tickets on-site, there is no need to book in advance.

Plan to spend 30 minutes here in total, the actual tour only takes around 20 minutes in order to protect the tarsiers.

Scenic drive via the Bilar Forest (Mahogany Forest)

As you leave the tarsier sanctuary, you can continue your journey via the man-made Mahogany Forest.

The forest is 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) in length and is located on the border of Bilar and Loboc. These gorgeous trees stretch up to the sky and form a tunnel that makes your drive splendidly scenic.

Habitat Butterflies Conservation Center

Continuing on with your day of nature and wildlife, you can stop off at the Habitat Butterflies Conservation Center.

There are hundreds of butterflies and moths here across over 20 different species. You’ll pick up some interesting trivia as you’re guided around the park and you’ll have the chance to take some incredible close-up shots of the beautiful creatures.

You can also grab a fruit ice cream from the gift shop – no Bohol itinerary is complete without sampling this local specialty!

The entrance fee is 60 PHP (1.20 USD) and as with the tarsier sanctuary, this includes a guided tour.

The drive from the Tarsier Sanctuary to the Habitat Butterflies Conservation Center takes just under one hour but you’ll want to stop to admire the Mahogany Forest along the way.

Beautiful butterfly in the Habitat Butterflies Conservation Center in Bohol, Philippines

You can’t start thinking about what to do in Bohol for 3 days without the Chocolate Hills instantly popping into your mind!

There are over 1,200 hills spread across the region in central Bohol. During the dry season, these oddities of nature turn a delectable chocolate brown color. If you visit during the wet season note that the hills will be emerald green instead.

The entrance fee to the Chocolate Hills complex is 50 PHP (1 USD) per person and this grants access to the viewing platform where you can take panoramic photos. Plan to spend around 30 minutes admiring the hills.

bohol job tours

To round off the first of your 3 days in Bohol you can treat yourself to a floating dinner on the Loboc River. This is the golden opportunity to try Filipino cuisine with a lush jungle backdrop as you slowly cruise along past traditional villages and witness local life.

A number of local companies run lunch and dinner tours on the Loboc River. Lunch ones are more popular but there are dinner options too.

You can book via Scotty’s or ask your hotel to provide the latest schedules with their recommended cruise operator.

Day 2 of Your 3 Day Bohol Itinerary

Stand up paddle boarding on the loboc river.

If you skipped the dinner cruise last night then you might fancy starting the second of your 3 days in Bohol itinerary with an alternative way to experience the Loboc River.

SUP Tours Philippines provides a couple of options. You can book a 1 hour stand up paddle boarding tour which is suitable for beginners. These run from 8 am and you will cover 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles) of the waterway.

Alternatively, you can book the moderate 3-4 hour waterfall tour that navigates 8 kilometers (5 miles) and takes you to the Busay Falls where you can enjoy a swim and splash around.

bohol job tours

Dimiao Twin Falls (Pahangog Falls)

Once you finish off your SUP tour, it’s time to head east and check out some of the more remote sights of Bohol.

The Dimiao Twin Falls (also known as the Pahangog Falls) is one of Bohol’s best-kept secrets. Two strands of water tumble over some huge limestone boulders and flow into a turquoise pool that you can take a refreshing dip in.

You can swim right up to the tumbling water itself for a relaxing water massage. You can take some great photos from the bamboo bridge as well.

Note that the parking area is only accessible for motorbikes, not cars. From where you leave your scooter, you will need to follow a steep 1 kilometers (0.6 miles) descent through the jungle to reach the waterfalls. This will take around 20-30 minutes each way subject to how slippery the route is.

You will need to pay 20 PHP (0.40 USD) to view and swim in the Dimiao Twin Falls.

Dimiao Twin Falls in Bohol, Philippines

A short drive from the twin falls brings you to another of Bohol’s most beautiful waterfalls that must feature on your Bohol itinerary.

The great thing about Ingkumhan Falls is that they have a swing rope where you can unleash your inner Tarzan and fling yourself into the refreshing swimming hole!

If you know what you are doing you can also try cliff jumping. But I would recommend you ask the locals to give you some pointers first or that you get the lay of the land before you plunge in.

As with the Dimiao Twin Falls, you will need to follow a steep route down through the jungle in order to reach the waterfalls. Again there is an entrance fee of 20 PHP (0.40 USD).

bohol job tours

After visiting your first two waterfalls of the day, you have around an hour of traveling ahead as you venture over to eastern Bohol where even more waterfalls await you.

Unlike the other two waterfalls, Kinahugan Falls is super easy to get to and just requires a 5-minute walk from the parking area.

Depending on the conditions when you visit, these three waterfalls might be powerful to take a dip in. Sometimes the water is really fast moving so make an assessment and plan to skip the swimming if that’s the case.

They’re still worth making a trip to see and take photographs of. Plus, Kinahugan Falls is free to visit!

There are lots of beautiful beaches to visit in the municipality of Anda and you could spend the rest of the day beach hopping.

With its powdery white sand fringed with swaying coconut palm trees and turquoise waters, Anda White Long Beach is the best place to slot into your Bohol 3 days itinerary. Factor in some time to relax on the sand, take a swim, and eat at one of the surrounding beach bars.

bohol job tours

Tibaw Cave Pool

There must be around 20 sunken cave pools in the Anda area so it would be crazy to come all the way over to this side of the island and not visit at least one!

They are kind of like the cenotes in Mexico and many of them permit swimming and cliff diving. If you do want to jump in for a swim, make sure you check first that there is a ladder so you can get back out.

A couple of the cave pools used to be accessible to swimmers but since the ladders have been taken away, it appears they are now closed. You can still visit for a look around though and to take some photos.

Tibaw Cave Pool is the easiest to access on your Bohol itinerary and is open to swimmers and jumpers. The water is around 3 meters deep so you can dive in but ask the locals for some tips first and do a recce of the water to check the layout.

The entrance fee for Tibaw Cave Pool is 20 PHP (0.40 USD). It’s a 5-minute walk from the parking area or you can just walk there from Anda White Long Beach.

You can follow the signs and continue another 5 minutes and see the much larger Cabagnow Cave Pool. Unfortunately, this one is currently closed to swimmers but it’s still available for viewing.

As well as its waterfalls, Bohol gives Bali a run for its money with its abundance of dreamy rice fields.

There are a couple of rice terraces in eastern Bohol that you can check out. Some of the most beautiful and accessible to tourists are the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces in Candijay.

You can park your car or scooter at Eleuterios’s Farms where you will need to pay the entrance fee of 20 PHP (0.40 USD). Then you are free to roam the terraces and take photos to your heart’s content.

It’s a fairly tricky road to reach the parking area if you’re driving yourself by motorbike so do take care. The ride from Anda White Long Beach takes just under one hour.

bohol job tours

There’s been a lot of waterfalls on your Bohol itinerary so far but I’m sure you’ll agree that they are a major part of the appeal of the island!

Can-Umantad Waterfall is only a 10-minute drive from the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces so I recommend you round off your day with a refreshing dunk in the water. This 18 meters (60 feet) tall waterfall is said to be the tallest on the island and it really does make for an impressive sight.

The trail from the car park is around 5 minutes. Once you’re at the swimming basin you can swim right up to the waterfall and, carefully, experience a neck and back massage from the gushing waters.

As is the norm in Bohol, you will be expected to pay 20 PHP (0.40 USD) to visit the waterfall and take a dip. All these entrance fees go towards keeping the natural environment clean and maintained.

Day 3 of Your 3 Day Bohol Itinerary

Baclayon church .

So far your 3 days in Bohol have been focused on experiencing the raw nature and the unique nature of the island. Let’s start your final day dipping into some of the heritage of the island.

Officially the tongue tangling La Purisima Concepcion de la Virgen Maria Parish Church, Baclayon Church was built in 1596.

Constructed out of coral stones, it’s one of the oldest churches on the island and dates back to when the island was colonized by the Spanish.

You can go inside and have a look at the ancient frescoes and majestic altar. The church looks pretty humble from the outside and the interiors might surprise you.

Entrance to the church hall is free but if you want to visit the adjacent museum it costs 25 PHP (0.50 USD).

Baclayon Church, Bohol island

Blood Compact Shrine

Another fascinating heritage site to squeeze into your Bohol itinerary is the Blood Compact Shrine. This commemorates the friendship treaty that took place between the Spaniards and the Filipinos on 16 March 1565.

The compact, or Sandugo in Spanish, was initiated between the explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and Bohol chieftain Datu Sikatuna.

The shrine is a 5-minute drive from the church and it’s free to visit.

Panglao Island

There’s a chance you might have already booked accommodation on Panglao Island which is the small island connected to Bohol via a bridge.

Panglao Island is one of the most popular tourist areas on Bohol and has the best beaches on an island that isn’t as famous for its beaches as neighboring Filipino islands.

Whether you’re staying on Panglao or elsewhere you can’t conclude your 3 day Bohol itinerary until you’ve explored it in full! Here are some ideas for what to do on Panglao Island.

Kayak to Pontod Island (Virgin Island)

Pontod Island (also known as the Virgin Island) is a sandbar located off the western tip of Panglao Island. It’s tiny but well worth the visit for that castaway experience. You also stand a high chance of seeing loads of colorful starfish as you paddle through the crystal clear water.

Most of the local resorts on Alona and Danao Beach provide kayaks to guests. If you aren’t staying in a hotel in the area then you can ask to hire one for a small fee.

Take your passport and money for a deposit and expect to pay around 200 PHP (4 USD) per hour for your kayak rental.

bohol job tours

Scuba dive at Balicasag Island

If you are a scuba diver (or a first-timer wanting to give it a go) then there are heaps of dive shops on Panglao Island where you can get your fish fix.

This will take most of the day so you will need to skip the kayaking and jiggle your Bohol itinerary to visit the heritage sights earlier in the trip.

Alona Divers are one of the top-rated scuba centers on the island. They provide different rates for qualified open water divers based on how many dives you want to do. You can also book a discovery dive, take a refresher course or enroll in your first open water diving course.

Go Deep offers comparable packages and they also have the option to go freediving or snorkeling with friendly whale sharks!

An alternative option for your 3 days in Bohol itinerary is to book an island hopping tour that takes you to both Balicasag Island and Virgin Island.

Balicasag Island from an aerial view in the Philippines

Before you go, there’s one more subterranean cave for your Bohol 3 days itinerary! Hinagdanan Cave is a huge limestone cavern with a deep lagoon that is lit naturally by the sun.

The entire cave is decked out with massive stalagmites that you will get an excellent view of while floating in the water on your back.

The water depth is 3-4 meters so it’s perfectly safe to jump in and enjoy a unique swimming experience.

Hinagdanan Cave is open daily, 7.30 am – 5 pm. Entrance is 50 PHP (1 USD) but if you want to swim in the water you’ll need to pay an additional 100 PHP (2 USD).

You’ll need to shimmy yourself down a skinny, wormhole of a staircase to enter the cave but it’s worth it.

bohol job tours

Wrap up the final hours of your Bohol itinerary by nursing a refreshing cocktail on the sandy white Alona Beach. You can take a dip in the warm, crystalline waters while you wait for the sun to start its descent.

This and Anda Long White Beach are the closest comparables on the island to the likes of Boracay, which is one of the best islands in the Philippines for beach lovers.

There are heaps of beach bars nestled between the tropical palm trees which serve refreshing sundowners, light meals and happy hour deals. Plus, you’ll get an incredible sunset from here.

How to get to Bohol

How to get to bohol from manila.

The easiest way to get to Bohol is via plane. There are direct flights from Manila to Tagbilaran, the capital of Bohol via Cebu Pacific Air, Philippines Airlines, and Air Asia. The flight takes about an hour and costs around 1800 PHP (50 USD).

How to get to Bohol from Cebu

Unfortunately, you can’t fly directly from Cebu to Bohol, you have to catch a connecting flight in Manila. However, you can take the ferry instead which is a pretty convenient and cheap way to get to Bohol.

Bohol has two ferry ports: Tubigon and Tagbilaran. You need to pay attention to which port your ferry is going to because they are actually quite distant from each other!

Tubigon is located on the island’s northwest side, and since it’s far away from the best tourist spots in Bohol , it’s not the most convenient option for most travelers. Tagbilaran, on the other hand, is on the island’s southwest coast and serves as its administrative center.

Typically, a one-way ferry ticket costs around 600-700 PHP (12-14 USD) and the journey takes 4-5 hours.

Best time to visit Bohol

The weather in Bohol is mostly hot and humid, although it does cool down a bit during the evening. The dry season (December-May) is the best time to visit, as it’s cooler and less humid than the other times of the year.

The northeast monsoon begins in late May and lasts until the beginning of December, with 15 wet days on average.

How to get around Bohol

There are regular buses that operate in Tagbilaran, but they’re very crowded and uncomfortable, thus not the best way to get around as a tourist.

A more convenient way to get around is to rent a car with a driver. A full day of driving costs about 1800 PHP (50 USD), while hourly rates are 400-600 PHP (10-15 USD).

It’s also possible to hire a tricycle (pedicab) to take you around town. Trikes are cheap (around 50-100 PHP/1-2 USD) and easy enough to flag down on the street.

If you’re a seasoned driver, you can also rent a scooter or a car. However, traffic is quite hectic on Bohol island so I would only recommend this if you have experience with driving in a Southeast Asian country!

Chocolate Hills and loboc River in Bohol

A visit to the province of Bohol is not complete without visiting its many tourist spots, and a convenient way to enjoy this is by booking Bohol tours . The island province is full of natural wonders, so it's no surprise that its most popular activities include sightseeing, swimming, lounging in beaches, and getting close to the animals in the area. This article lists the top tours and activities you can try on your next visit to Bohol.

Bohol is a small island province in the Central Visayas region, but it offers multiple natural attractions to visit. The island is blessed with tourist spots in Bohol , such as immaculate beaches, world-class dive sites, one-of-a-kind landscapes,  the smallest primate in the world, century-old churches, and adventure parks.

  • Find the best Bohol vacation packages with airfare and hotel
  • Book  Bohol Chocolate Hills tours

While being known as the home of the popular geological formations called Chocolate Hills , Bohol offers more than just this top attraction. Lush forests hold secret waterfalls and pristine rivers, while its surrounding waters are home to sea turtles and dolphins. It's one of the most-visited destinations in the Philippines, and yet the province has still maintained its laid-back and tranquil feel.

Relaxing 4-day beachfront mithi resort bohol package from manila, fuss-free 3-day bohol package at mithi resort with airfare from manila & transfers, 4-day premier bohol beach club resort package with breakfast & airport transfers.

Bohol is also rich in historical and religious significance, being key to the spread of Christianization in the country. This is evident in the glorious cathedrals and stone churches scattered throughout the island, some destroyed by an earthquake in 2013, while the rest are still standing in their might and beauty.

Bohol should easily be on your list of places to visit in the Philippines. If you're planning a trip here, we have rounded up a list of top tours and activities that must be included in your Bohol itinerary

Bees from Bohol Bee Farm

Bohol Bee Farm is a buzzing destination not just for the stinging creatures, but also for its sumptuous food. Nestled on a cliff surrounded by lush greens with a sweeping view of the sea, the organic farm is a gastronomic hotspot known for its healthy and light meals. This includes farm-fresh salads (with edible flowers!), hot soups, and fresh seafood dishes. Their signature squash bread appetizer with spreads is a hit.

  • Read our article on where to eat in Bohol

Bohol Bee Farm is usually part of day tours to Panglao Island. Head outside of the restaurant and finish off your meal with their Buzzz Ice Cream, which comes in interesting flavors such as tomato and spicy ginger.

While the farm’s highlight is their food, don’t forget about the bees. Grab a bottle or two of their honey and other organic food products in their shop.

Facade of the Baclayon Church in Bohol

Marvel in the rich history and religious heritage of Bohol by visiting its many historical sites. Being one of the oldest provinces in the country and one of the first to embrace Christianity, Bohol is has many centuries-old churches.

Many have stood the test of time, but others have been heavily damaged by a strong earthquake that rocked the island some years ago. But with the locals’ deep faith and combined efforts, rebuilding these important religious structures have been done.

Visit Baclayon Church, originally built in 1596 and regarded as the oldest church in Asia. It is also known for miraculous images appearing in its walls. Another fun fact: it is made of harvested ancient coral stones glued together with egg whites.

Go inside the Church of San Pedro, or locally known as Loboc Church, and be in awe of its ceiling adorned with a heavenly scene painting. Other churches that are worth visiting include Dauis Church, Panglao Church, and Cathedral de San Jose.

One of the stops in a Bohol Countryside Tour is the Blood Compact Shrine, also known as Sandugo Shrine. It was built to commemorate the kinship between Spaniards and Filipinos, led by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna, which involved putting a few drops of their blood on a wine-filled cup and then drinking it after.

Firefly watching in Bohol's Abatan River

Abatan River is home to as many as 32 mangrove species. The real stars of the place are fireflies. See these magical creatures sparkle and shine on Abatan River firefly tours in Bohol, a great way to spend your evening on the island after a day of exploring its many other natural wonders. You can also try a  Loay firefly watching tour.

See our popular Firefly Watching Tours

Bohol firefly watching private evening cruise at abatan river with transfers, palawan coron firefly watching walking tour with dinner & transfers, palawan puerto princesa bay cruise & iwahig river firefly watching tour with dinner & transfers.

The tour cruises along the waterways of Abatan River, which is about 20 kilometers long in total, and drifts near the centuries-old mangroves. In no time, the fireflies appear from the trees and vegetation along the riverbank, offering a magical sight and fantastical experience. Guests are advised to minimize talking and making loud noises to avoid scaring away these tiny, sparkling creatures.

Beautiful view from Danao Adventure Park

For the thrill-seekers and adventurous spirits, the Danao Adventure Park is a must-visit when in Bohol. Adrenaline-pumping activities such as zipline, wall climbing, rappelling, ATV rides, and skybike await here, with sweeping mountain views and scenic landscapes as the backdrop while you participate in all the action and adventure.

See our popular Adventure Tours

Danao Adventure Park’s claim to fame is its signature The Plunge bungee jump, one of the world’s highest canyon swings where you will be released from a cliff-side platform (with all safety gears, of course) situated 200m above the canyon floor.

Located at Brgy. Matangtang, which is about 72km from Tagbilaran City, Danao Adventure Park is managed by the local government to boost the island’s eco-tourism endeavors. You may want to head up here very early in the morning, as the area is popular for its hilltops smothered in a rolling sea of clouds during sunrise.

8. Explore Anda's Attractions

Blue waters of Anda's Cabagnow Cave Pool

Bask under the sun and dip your toes in the fine sands of Anda’s expansive beach. This little town is fast becoming a favorite among locals and international travelers alike for its laid-back vibe and sheer beauty. Anda Beach, which stretches 1.5 kilometers long, may rival some of the country’s most popular beaches.

Anda tours also include a visit to its natural cave pools. One of which is Cabagnow Cave Pool, which offers visitors crystal-clear waters from its opening. Adventure seekers favor this spot for cliff-jumping, as its waters run around 20 feet deep.

The other famous cave pool here is called Combento, which means “convent” in English, named such because of the cave’s rock formations that resemble a chandelier. Although the pool here is much more shallow than Cabagnow at only 5-feet deep, Combento’s mystical charm is worth visiting.

7. Swim at Hinagdanan Cave

Sparkling blue pool inside Hinagdanan Cave

The name Hinagdanan is derived from the Cebuano word that means “laddered”, as it is said to have been discovered by a farmer who built a ladder to enter the cave. Hinagdanan Cave features a sparkling natural pool at the bottom, where visitors can take a dip and swim into under stalactites and other surrounding interesting rock formations.

On a beautiful day with sunny weather, natural light passes through the cave entrance and hits the pool, offering an ethereal glow to the crystal-clear waters. Hinagdanan Cave tours can be done after your visit to the Chocolate Hills and other top Bohol attractions.

White sand at Alona Beach in Panglao Island

Bohol is a beach-lover’s paradise, with bountiful coastlines and gorgeous beaches all over the province. Perhaps the most popular among them all is Alona Beach in Panglao Island, which features a long stretch of white sand beach lined with opulent resorts in Bohol , dining establishments, and entertainment bars.

  • Read our list of best beachfront resorts in Bohol and the best budget-friendly resorts in Bohol

An alternative is the more laidback Dumaluan Beach. It usually has fewer visitors and there are lesser establishments around. The sunset is not to be missed here!

For a more quiet and secluded beach time, head to Bagobo Beach and Momo Beach. Both offer beautiful and palm-fringed white-sand shores with small crowds. The former is a favorite spot for snorkelers and divers because of its bountiful waters teeming with marine life.

Peaceful surroundings of Bilar Manmade Forest

The Bilar Man-Made Forest features towering white and red mahogany trees that make up a 2-kilometer forest from both sides of the road. The man-made forest is part of a reforestation project to protect the Loboc watershed.

The trees’ branches and leaves form an overhanging carpet, almost entirely blocking the sun’s heat and providing a much cooler breeze the entire day. This area has become a favorite stop for travelers doing the Bohol Countryside tours , posing in the middle of the road with the forest as the background.

Be careful of speeding cars as this is still a highway. There is no designated parking area here as well, so you will just park by the roadside and marvel at this winning man-made landscape.

Aerial view of Balicasag Island in Bohol

Book or join an island hopping tour around Bohol and explore the marine life beneath the islands' glass-like waters. The province features numerous prime and world-class Bohol diving spots like Balicasag Island.

See our popular Bohol Island Hopping Tours

Balicasag Island features expansive coral reefs and a wide variety of tropical fishes. You might event spot or swim along with majestic green sea turtles. Meanwhile, dolphins and whales call Pamilacan Island home, and you may get a chance to see them in action when booking a dolphin-watching activity here. For those wishing to just lounge around and frolic on the sand, Virgin Island is the perfect spot to do such, with its moon-shaped sandbar that is surrounded by turquoise waters.

Tarsier in Bohol's Tarsier Sanctuary

Cute is probably an understatement when talking about tarsiers. These nocturnal creatures have big eyes, yet they hold the title of being the smallest primates in the world. No trip to Bohol is complete without taking the chance to see tarsiers up close and personal in their natural habitat, which is usually included in a Bohol countryside tour.

See our popular Tarsier Conservation Tours

The town of Loboc is home to the Tarsier Conservation Area, while Corella has the Tarsier Sanctuary. Both places offer travelers the opportunity to see these small creatures and be educated about them. Tour guides will help you spot them, as they are peacefully sleeping during the day, hiding on tree branches and behind lush foliage.

Noise should be avoided, as well as taking pictures with flash, to prevent them from getting disturbed. More importantly, touching the tarsiers is strictly prohibited as it may cause them stress.

Emerald waters and lush forest at Loboc River in Bohol

Loboc River is one of Bohol’s most recognizable tourist spots and wondrous natural attractions. It features blue-green waters surrounded by lush trees and palms from both sides.

This destination is best enjoyed and appreciated by joining  Loboc River Cruise tours , where visitors board on a floating restaurant and enjoy a bountiful buffet feast to the fun and mesmerizing singing of a local folk band. They may also perform traditional dances to the delight of everyone on board. The mesmerizing Busay Falls, albeit small, will mark the end of the cruise.

You might also spot local kids hanging on to palm trees and plunging straight into the waters, and adults swimming or working by the river.

Beautiful aerial view of Chocolate Hills in Bohol

No other attraction is as synonymous with Bohol as the Chocolate Hills . This geological formation is the island province’s crowning jewel and showstopper, with more than 1000 cone-shaped karst hills that turn into chocolate brown color during the dry season, thus the name. During the rainy season, they then become covered with emerald green vegetation, which is also an equally wonderful sight.

The Chocolate Hills has been awarded the Philippines’ 3rd National Geological Monument, and others swear by it being an Eighth Wonder of the World.

See our popular Chocolate Hills Tours

Head over to the Chocolate Hills Complex in the town of Carmen and climb 200 steps up the observation deck for a jaw-dropping, 360-degree view of this natural magic.

Great Journeys Made Easier

Bohol island, why you must visit bohol.

It is indeed true that not only apples keep the doctors away — nature does it as well. And when talking about serenity and off the beaten tracks, Bohol is definitely a place to be. From the depths of blue ocean to the warmth of the powdery sand, there’s more for you to savor throughout the year in this beautiful island province.

With the rich natural wonder that this archipelago beholds, it became one of the most popular tourist-friendly attractions in the Philippines. It is located in Central Visayas consisting of diverse sub-islands. Just so you know, Bohol is the tenth largest island in the country.

Just before this place was known for its superb on and off the shore experiences, Bohol has been a home of Carlos P. Garcia, the eighth president of the Philippines. A product of Boholanos’ ethnolinguistic intelligence and skills. And a proud descendant of the last group of settlers in the country called “pintados”.

Traverse into the world of adventure with the cute-bug eye tarsiers, tiny humpy hills, and breathtaking diving experience. You can also unwind under the shades of large coconut trees around the shore. More often, jumping to an escapade of ecotourism set up is one of the best ways to enjoy this island.

Also, try to know more about the diverse culture of Bohol by experiencing the beautiful lifestyle of their people. Eat like Boholanos. Talk like Boholanos. Celebrate like Boholanos. And have the best holiday journey you will ever have!

Clearwater Beach tour boat captain was drunk on the job, fell off boat, police say

  • Jack Prator Times staff

A tour boat captain stumbled into work on Clearwater Beach, voyaged out to sea and drunkenly fell overboard, police said.

John Beckwith, 53, was arrested Friday on a charge of boating under the influence. The captain for Clearwater Fun Boat Tours had 30 customers on board, some telling police he was so impaired he fell off the boat.

Employees told Clearwater police Beckwith “arrived to work stumbling and had food all over his face,” according to an arrest report.

Officers noticed his eyes were bloodshot and they smelled alcohol on his breath. Beckwith “performed poorly” on a field sobriety test and blew a 0.118 on a breathalyzer, which is over the 0.08 level at which Florida law says someone is impaired.

Beckwith was released Saturday afternoon without being required to post bail. The incident is Beckwith’s fourth charge for operating a vehicle while impaired, records show. He was convicted twice in Michigan and again for an “extreme DUI” in Arizona.

The Clearwater Beach tour provides customers a chance to spot dolphins playing in the waves “while indulging in a delicious ice cream sundae” on a “family-friendly boat,” according to the company’s website . Last year, it was awarded Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award, the website states.

Neither Beckwith nor a representative for the tour boat company could be reached by phone for comment.

U.S. Presidents Cup Captain Jim Furyk enjoying Scottie Scheffler's run

Change Text Size

Jim Furyk was as dialed into Scottie Scheffler’s Masters victory as anyone else on Sunday – but unlike most, Furyk had a specific rooting interest in Scheffler’s success.

Scheffler, who became the first golfer since Tiger Woods in 2001 to win both THE PLAYERS Championship and the Masters in the same season, sits on top of the United States Presidents Cup team standings and he’s unlikely to fall from that spot prior to teeing it up at Royal Montreal Golf Club in September.

Furyk, who will captain that U.S. team, is thrilled to see Scheffler’s early-season success.

“The two biggest events to date are THE PLAYERS and the Masters and Scottie dominated both events and finished both events with a flurry and is just on a roll right now,” Furyk said on a conference call with media about five-and-a-half months from this year’s Presidents Cup. “I think he’ll be making the transformation from one of the younger players to now one of the leaders of the team.”

Scottie Scheffler and Ted Scott’s best pre-shot conversations

Furyk will captain the American side against Mike Weir and the International team for the 15th edition of the Presidents Cup. Furyk has had plenty of his own success in Canada, winning the RBC Canadian Open in back-to-back years and finishing runner-up in 2014 when the tournament was played at Royal Montreal.

He was also part of the winning U.S. Presidents Cup team at Royal Montreal in 2007.

As always, the Americans will be favored this time around, but Furyk is not going to be resting on his laurels through the summertime stretch. He said he “definitely” wants his players to scout out Royal Montreal ahead of time, or at the very least get there early in the week to get comfortable with the course.

“I want these guys to be ready,” Furyk said.

He praised the last few captains on the International side – Ernie Els and Trevor Immelman – for bringing that team closer together. Now comes Weir, who was a captain’s assistant for both South Africans and is expected to lean into their successes.

Furyk said no one is overlooking how much closer the matches have gotten recently.

Jim Furyk named U.S. Team Captain for 2024 Presidents Cup

“I expect a very talented group of 12 players on the International side,” he said. “I know they’re hungry. We know the record and they want to change that, and the U.S. doesn’t want to let it go.

“We like the roll we’re on and we want to keep that momentum rolling.”

One person Furyk was non-committal about being a part of the team was Tiger Woods, the 2019 U.S. Presidents Cup captain in Australia who also went a perfect 3-0-0 as a player. As for him being in Montreal as a captain’s assistant, Furyk said he would wait to see if Woods is named the American Ryder Cup captain for 2025.

“We’re still talking about it,” he said. “It's something that Seth (Waugh, the CEO of the PGA of America) and I are going to sit back and talk about it after this event.”

So, Woods is a maybe. Scheffler is a sure thing. Max Homa went 4-0-0 at the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow and was one of the Americans’ lone bright spots at the Ryder Cup in Rome last fall. Neither of those results escaped Furyk’s notice, and nor did the fact that Homa finished tied for third at the Masters, his best career major result.

Homa, whose road to the game’s elite level was not linear, was one of six American potential team members who were inside the top 10 at Augusta National, and Furyk is excited to see him continue to shine on golf’s biggest stages.

“From an aspect of everything involved – as far as being a good person, being a great teammate, being good in the team room and then also being very talented, I think he’s a great package,” Furyk said, “A guy that you love seeing playing well and a guy you’d like to qualify for your team.”

While Furyk’s team – including his assistants – will be confirmed later this summer, he is eager to build off the lessons he learned as U.S. Ryder Cup captain at Le Golf National in Paris in 2018. (One of those, he said, would be sticking to his game plan versus changing things on the fly.) And he knows that when it comes to the Presidents Cup, and the U.S. side’s history of success, there’s not much need to change.

“We’re still in the early rounds of a prize fight here for guys trying to qualify for this team and it’s been a lot of fun,” Furyk said. “It’s my job to lead our group of 50 and keep the ball rolling.”
