Mikkeller and Friends

The popular Mikkeller on Vesterbro has a baby brother on Nørrebro. A brother that is three times as big and offers up to 40 different kinds of draft beer.

The bar Mikkeller on Vesterbro has been so successful that it has been expanded with newer and bigger premises on Nørrebro.

The bar has gotten the name Mikkeller and Friends, and it is divided into several sections, which can be closed off, in order to maintain the intimate atmosphere.   From bottled to draft beer

Mikkeller and Friends collaborates with other breweries, and their focus is draft beer. Here you can taste up to 40 different kinds. However, Mikkeller did not forget about bottled beer. You have the chance to buy bottled beer in the store, which also invites you to sit, relax and have a cold one. Or, you can simply buy the beer and take it home with you. Not the end for Viktoriagade

Visit Mikkeller  in Copenhagen's Vesterbro area, where you can still taste up to 350 kinds of bottled beer. You will also find Mikkeller bars in San Francisco and in Stockholm .

The Top Breweries and Beer Bars to Visit in Copenhagen

There are many different opportunities to taste and discover øl (that’s the Danish word for beer!) in Copenhagen. From micro breweries to Danish classics and surprising American collaborations, this Scandinavian city has brews every beer fan will love. So, grab your bike and your friends and explore the city for a different taste of Copenhagen.

Built in an old Copenhagen factory, BRUS is the result of a collaboration between To Øl (a traveling brewery) and Mikropolis, culminating in the creation of a playground of great food, brews, and fun. Specializing in micro beer and soft drinks, the brewery ferments up to 13 different concoctions at a time and aims to create a new kind of experience for beer enthusiasts. With beer made with unconventional herbs and ingredients like yuzu, you’re bound to find something you can’t find anywhere else.

Although brewery tours and special tastings are only held once a month, the bar and restaurant is open daily—just don’t forget to get some beers at their shop next store to bring home.

TripSavvy / Taylor McIntyre

Denmark’s largest brewery, Carlsberg, has been brewing beers since 1845. With brews ranging from traditional pilsners to lagers, bocks, and even ciders, there’s a Carlsberg drink for everyone.

With beer tastings and tours held daily, Carlsberg’s flagship brewery in Copenhagen’s Vestebro neighborhood is a must for every beer lover. In addition to their classic beers, be sure to taste selections from Denmark’s other brewery, Tuborg, delicious fruity ciders from Somersby, and much more.

Founded in 1880, Tuborg is one of Copenhagen’s oldest breweries. After merging with Carlsberg in 1970, together they’re one of the world’s leading exporters of beer.

If you happen to be in the city the first Friday in November, you’re in luck! The annual launch of Tuborg’s Christmas ale, Julebryg is held that weekend as a celebration across Denmark. Brand reps drive around in their official Tuborg trucks visiting bars and cafés while singing the traditional Tuborg Christmas Brew song. Best of all, if you happen to catch the truck, you’ll have the chance to get a free beer to skol to the start of the festive season.

Nørrebro Bryghus

Located in the heart of the hip Nørrebro neighborhood, Nørrebro Bryghus is a modern microbrewery serving up their own unique beer influenced by Belgium, Germany, and the United States, with their own Nordic twist.

The traditional Nordic cuisine in their restaurant is the best way to get a taste of classic Danish cuisine perfectly paired with a new beer.

Mikkeller & Friends

A self-proclaimed ‘phantom’ brewery, Mikkeller doesn’t operate a home brewery and instead relies on collaborations with other brewers to create their beer. With exports ranging from classic IPAs to experimental one-off brews, Mikkeller is where to go to experience a one-of-a-kind beer.

This second location of Mikkeller, one of Copenhagen’s largest craft beer exports, is three times the size of the original bar with no fewer than 40 rotating taps featured at once.

In addition to beer, Mikkeller & Friends features specialty Mikkeller Spirits, soft drinks, and snacks to soak up all the delicious craft brews.

If you’re lucky to visit Copenhagen in May, you’ll get to experience Mikkeller’s annual beer celebration that features special casks and tastings from small breweries from all around the world, with many premiering new beers or tasting special one-off batches brewed specifically for the annual festival.

Ølsnedkeren

This Nørrebro beer bar is the perfect stop after a long day of exploring wonderful Copenhagen. Despite its small size, this little brewery serves up a few of their own small-batch micro-brews alongside their weekly rotation on tap.

With its eclectic array of furniture and affordable prices, you’ll learn the true meaning of hygge after spending a few hours relaxing with your friends.

WarPigs Brewpub

If you’re a diehard American craft beer drinker, you’re in luck. WarPigs is the love-child of Indiana’s 3 Floyd’s and Denmark’s Mikkeller. Featuring Texas-style barbecue, American, Danish style brews, this is your best chance to taste a little bit of home with a hip and innovative Danish twist.

Located in the heart of Vestebro’s meatpacking district, the brewpub always has 22 beers on tap, 6 house beers, and 14 rotations that will surprise any native or visitor.

If you’re looking to spend time outdoors, get a 1 liter crowler to enjoy at Kongen Have or one of the many bridges, like a true Dane.

About Mikkeller Færgekroen

Mikkeller breathes new life into iconic Tivoli locationIn one of Tivoli's most picturesque locations overlooking Tivoli Lake, lies Færgekroen, and when Tivoli opens its gates again for the summer season of 2024, it will be with new forces in the kitchen and behind the beer taps at the iconic inn. It is the brewery Mikkeller that has taken over operations, and the goal is to create a cozy dining spot where Færgekroen's traditions and charm go hand in hand with modernized pub fare and Mikkeller's world-famous beer.A classic Danish inn experience with a modern twist. That's the ambition as Mikkeller takes over operations at Færgekroen in Tivoli. The brewery took over the inn at the turn of the year, and work is now in full swing to create a menu, brew special beers, and furnish the premises so that Færgekroen can be ready to welcome Tivoli's guests when the amusement park opens its doors for the 2024 season.

The Classic Inn Experience

The plan is to continue the inn's traditions and classic inn atmosphere while ramping up the quality and ambitions on the plates and in the glasses. There will still be classics like schnitzel, steak tartare, plaice fillet, and open-faced sandwiches on the menu, but the ingredients will, as far as possible, be organic and always of the highest quality, just as everything will be made from scratch. The menu will also offer a range of vegetarian dishes for both lunch and dinner. The decor will uphold the proud traditions of the old inn, and guests will still be able to sit comfortably among platters, high panels, antlers, and large beer mugs. The goal is to create a classic, cozy, and intimate inn experience with a modern touch, where both food and drink are of the absolute top class.

Worth Traveling For

And since it's Mikkeller behind it, there will naturally be plenty of Mikkeller's world-famous beers on the menu. Færgekroen is not only an inn but also a small brewery. Therefore, Mikkeller will brew a new beer, which will only be brewed and available at Færgekroen, as well as seasonal beers that change with the seasons, in addition to the regular selection of around 20 taps. There are also plans to invite guest brewers from around the world to create unique beers for the inn. Both food and beer are intended to be something both Danish and foreign tourists travel to experience, but it will also be a relaxed place where one can sit down with a cold draft beer before Friday concerts. Mikkel Borg Bjergsø, the man behind Mikkeller, says about the ambitions at Færgekroen: "It has long been a dream for us to open a restaurant in Tivoli. So when we got the chance to take over such an iconic establishment as Færgekroen, we had no doubts. The goal is for Færgekroen with Mikkeller at the helm to become one of the country's best inns – with its own microbrewery, authentic pub food, and a relaxed atmosphere where both young, old, regulars, and tourists have a good experience." Mikkel Ustrup, Tivoli's high-end director, says about the new tenant at Færgekroen: "We are very happy with the collaboration, which undoubtedly can help elevate the gastronomic level in Tivoli. Our goal is for the food and drinks to be attractions in themselves, something people come to Tivoli to experience on par with rides and concerts, and here Mikkeller's brand fits in perfectly. It stands for high quality and innovation, and has a good reputation worldwide. We hope that Færgekroen will become a popular meeting place for both families and concert-goers as well as foodies and beer enthusiasts of all ages."

About Færgekroen

When Tivoli opened its gates on May 4th in sunny weather in 1934, an old idyllic fishing village was erected along the shores of Tivoli Lake. Old yellow and white half-timbered houses, with walls where the lime peeled off and with red tile roofs glimmering in the sun, formed Tivoli's new Fisherman's Village. In the middle of the Fisherman's Village lay Færgekroen. Færgekroen was built as an old inn with a beamed ceiling and brown panels, a smoke-stained fireplace, and waiters in checkered dresses running around with beer mugs, sausages, and mustard. The building was supposed to only stand for a single season, but Færgekroen was an immediate success and this year celebrates its 90th birthday. In 1934, hungry children and adults could eat Færge-labskovs, a favorite among guests, but also Shrimp à la Gerhard (1 DKK), a cold pork chop (0.75 DKK), and Hungarian goulash. After many years of service in Tivoli, Færgekroen was completely renovated in 2021, when an entirely new inn was hoisted into the Garden.

About Mikkeller

Mikkeller is the story of a young, beer-loving math and physics teacher who began experimenting with hops, malt, and yeast in a small kitchen in Vesterbro, Copenhagen, in 2003. Today, Mikkel Bjergsø and Mikkeller export beer to 40 countries worldwide and operate just as many bars, restaurants, and beer shops. With its imaginative and constant development, Mikkeller is a brewery that has gained broad international recognition for both innovation and quality. In addition to the beer, creative collaborations are a key element of Mikkeller's brand. Mikkeller collaborates with everything from world-famous Michelin restaurants and other fantastic breweries to designers, wine producers, entertainment giants, artists, and rock stars. Mikkeller Brewing NYC to open this fall at Citi Field in Queens, NY

visit mikkeller brewery

(Press Release)

Mikkeller , and its founder Mikkel Borg Bjergsø, are proud to announce their first East Coast brewery “ Mikkeller Brewing NYC ” (a.k.a “Mikkeller NYC”). MKNYC is scheduled to open this fall at Citi Field, in Flushing, Queens. Mikkeller, the renowned Denmark-based “gypsy” brewery, opened its first U.S. Brewery in San Diego, CA in 2016 and has been looking for the right opportunity to create an East Coast brewery ever since.

Following the success of Mikkeller’s “ballpark beers” (Henry Hops and Say Hey Sally) at Citi Field this season, Bjergsø jumped at the opportunity to make Flushing the New York City hub for Mikkeller.

visit mikkeller brewery

“Since launching Henry and Sally at Citi Field in April, the Mikkeller team and I have come to appreciate how baseball fans in Flushing are quite similar to Mikkeller fans around the world. Devotees like The 7 Line Army are fanatical about the quality and performance of their team and their community.  They invest time, effort and emotion into supporting the orange and blue and we look forward to sharing this passion when they visit Mikkeller Brewing NYC. Our new location at Citi Field provides convenient year-round access for craft beer and food fans from the five boroughs and beyond.  We are thrilled to be associated with this wonderful fan base, the Flushing and Willets Points neighborhoods and New York City.”

Mikkeller NYC plans include a 10,000 square foot brewery and restaurant. Consistent with Mikkeller’s prolific nature, the brewery and bar are specifically designed to optimize creativity, agility, and collaboration. The production area includes a 20 barrel brewhouse, lots of single batch fermenters, and a canning line to provide fresh and varied offerings to customers on a weekly basis. The customer experience is anchored by 60 taps in the bar-restaurant area, a merchandise and beer shop for take home purchases, and public tours of the brewing operations. Mikkeller NYC will be Mikkeller’s first location connected to a professional sports venue anywhere.

Jim Raras Jr., formerly CFO of Hill Farmstead Brewery, has joined Mikkeller NYC as Executive Vice President, responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, with a keen focus on the customer experience, collaborations and partnerships. In his previous role, Raras had worked with Bjergsø and Mikkeller on several joint initiatives and hit it off with the team in Copenhagen given their like-minded focus on quality and experience. “Moving my family to a more urban area was the initial driver for leaving Vermont, but this opportunity exceeded anything we imagined.  I am thrilled to be a part of this all-star team, working to redefine what a high quality beer-centric experience can be”.

visit mikkeller brewery

Mikkeller NYC aims to bring the highest quality craft brewery and food experience not only on game days but also year-round as a center for beer education, collaboration, and innovation. The premium beer experience will be complemented by a high-quality food program executed by Mikkeller NYC’s in-house kitchen and including items from year-round partners Fuku and Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors. Additionally, customers will have the opportunity to enjoy special event menus throughout the year as Mikkeller NYC partners with some of New York’s finest culinary and beverage minds. The trademark Mikkeller Danish minimalist design will be integrated into the iconic Citi Field resulting in an environment that will both excite and engage ballpark fans while still paying homage to what Mikkeller has become known for across the globe.

Copenhagen-Based Mikkeller Brewing To End Run In United States With Impending Closure Of Tasting Room In San Diego's Little Italy

visit mikkeller brewery

Copenhagen-based Mikkeller Brewing is ending its tumultuous run in United States with the impending closure of its tasting room in San Diego's Little Italy.

Mikkeller's 5 year old tasting room in San Diego's Little Italy is currently the company's last remaining U.S. property but not for long. The company will close the 900-square-foot space after end of service on Saturday, April 8, as troubles continue to mount for the craft beer industry.

Mikkeller's closure marks the end to a rocky tenure in the United States. In 2017, Mikkeller San Diego was linked to numerous complaints from employees about unsafe working conditions, harassment, and bullying, which were echoed by Mikkeller employees around the globe. In 2021, several former Mikkeller San Diego employees shared complaints via the viral @ratmagnet Instagram stories detailing incidents of rampant discrimination throughout the male-dominated industry. Last year, Mikkeller established a reconciliation plan in an effort to make amends with those who experienced mistreatment and move forward with a more positive work environment. Mikkeller will close its tasting room at 2021 India Street in San Diego's Little Italy after business on Saturday, April 8. For more information, visit mikkeller.com .

St. Paul brewer plans to bring Minnesota's first Black woman-owned brewery to Rondo neighborhood

Britney Mikell still remembers her first beer: a Stella Artois.

Later, as her tastes developed, she would spend hours studying at breweries around the Twin Cities while enrolled as a pharmacy student. When the pandemic hit, she took up home brewing to fill all the free time. Eventually, so captivated by the culture and community around beer, she left the pharmaceutical business behind to become a brewer.

That's when Mikell saw an opportunity. "I woke up at one point after maybe 10 or 15 batches," Mikell said. "I was like wait, what are the black-owned breweries in the Twin Cities? What are the women-owned breweries in the Twin Cities?"

She knew of at least one brewery owned by women, St. Paul's Urban Growler, as well as Black-owned MetroNOME Brewery in the same city, and Montgomery Brewing in Montgomery, Minnesota. But none were owned by a Black woman.

Mikell, 33, has plans to open Bubble Line Brewing Company in St. Paul next year. It will be Minnesota's first Black-woman owned brewery, located in St. Paul's Rondo neighborhood, a historic hub of Black residential and business activity.

"Being in these brews and being in these spaces there's rarely anyone that looks like me, both in the people who patronize the brewery and also the people who work there," Mikell said. "Part of this brewery is diversifying the face of craft beer."

Starting with her lengthy study sessions while in pharmacy school, Mikell said she saw how breweries could become "third spaces" — places where people can hang outside their home or work, and where all types could feel comfortable: fellow students, people holding business meetings, and of course people there to relax with friends or family.

Of course, it helps if the beer is good. That's where Mikell's pandemic hobby comes in. Brewing became a way to flex both creative and scientific muscles, she said, as she explored flavor combinations and processes. Mikell found that creating different recipes brought her joy. Plus, the beers turned out quite well, she said.

The pull toward beer was finally strong enough that Mikell left pharmacy behind for a job as an assistant brewer at La Doña Cervecería in Minneapolis. She enrolled in a Community Entrepreneurship Program at the University of St. Thomas, where she was paired with student consultants who helped her build and develop a strategy around crowdfunding to open the brewery.

Recent St. Thomas graduate Laila Franklin was one of two students paired with Mikell to work with her on the crowdfunding campaign .

"I was really grateful that I got assigned Brittany, because she's just an amazing human," Franklin said. "Being a woman of color myself, I just found her to be very inspiring with her words and all the things she's trying to do for the Rondo community."

Franklin, 22, was able to sample some of the beer. She said future patrons have a lot to look forward to.

While Minneapolis may have its fair share of breweries, the Rondo and Midway areas of St. Paul are a bit of a brewery desert, Mikell said. She's excited about the work-life harmony she hopes to achieve by getting out of bed and going to work in her neighborhood — which she wants for her coworkers as well.

One of her first successful home brews, a Honeycrisp apple blonde ale that is a nod to the apple created at the University of Minnesota and her love of the apple flavors, will be a part of of the taproom's menu.

"We'll have beer, we'll also have craft lemonade. We'll have a bit of something for everyone," Mikell said.

Mikell hopes Bubble Line can be space for all to having fun and building community, whether they love a good pilsner or have never heard of one, whether they are celebrating a big win or simply studying for an exam like she used to.
