Himachal Pradesh

With spectacular snowy peaks and plunging river valleys, beautiful Himachal is India’s outdoor adventure playground. From trekking and climbing to rafting, paragliding and skiing, if it can be done in the mountains, it can be done here. A convoluted topography of interlocking mountain chains also makes Himachal a spectacular place simply to explore, by bus, car, motorbike, jeep or foot. Every pass crossing into a new valley brings you into a different culture, with its own deities and language. Villages perched on staggering slopes enchant with fairy-tale architecture and residents' easygoing warmth. Hill stations appeal with a holiday atmosphere, while backpacker magnets lure with chilled-out vibes and mountain beauty. In the Dalai Lama's home-away-from-home, McLeod Ganj, or in remote Lahaul and Spiti with their centuries-old Buddhist cultures, you might wonder whether you've inadvertently stumbled into Tibet.

Hello, I am glad to share my experience with you regarding the splendid Himachal tour packages that had been put forward by Swan Tours, a brilliant travel agency. I was glad to go on an amazing trip to the Queen of Hill Stations with my family where I had a lot to explore in all the places namely, Manali, Khajjiar, Kasauli, Dharamshala and Dalhousie to name the major few. Along with the beautiful environs that was covered with lush greenery to the eye-catchy views of the snow-clad peaks, it had a lot to discover like the Rohtang Pass and Solang Valley putting up enthralling activities like hiking, skiing, paragliding and so on. My overall experience was awesome as I had no room for complaints pertaining to the bookings, and sightseeing transfers.

Travel experience, R.K Roy, Kolkata:

I want to thank Swan Tours for providing a wonderful Himachal Pradesh Tour Package that has allowed me the opportunity the nitty gritty of the famous hill station in the North. From Kullu- Manali, to Khajjiar, Kasauli, Dalhousie and Dharamshala, it has covered all the beautiful destinations in a few days where I have not only explored the best extracts of nature, but the local food and the shopping ventures at Mall Road was also unforgettable. Jakhoo Temple, Mall Road, Lakkar Bazaar, and The Ridge, town of Kufri, Himalayan Park, Christ Church, and Spiti Valley are some of the best places that I have come across during my tour to Himachal Pradesh and I had an amazing experience so far!

Here are some tips for planning your trip to Himachal Pradesh

  • Choose the right time to visit

  • Plan your itinerary

Tourists can plan their itineraries according to their interests and preferences by visiting these places at different times of the year. Or they can contact Noble House Tours which offers the best Himachal tour packages from Delhi .

  • How long do you need?

If you want to see most of the major attractions in Himachal Pradesh, then you should stay at least two weeks or more, depending on your available time. Don’t forget that many places require hiking, so make sure that you have enough time in case something goes wrong or someone gets injured while hiking!

  • Make sure you have enough money

Make sure you have enough money as per your Himachal trip cost while travelling because there are no ATMs in some areas like Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti. Make sure your bank account is linked with internet banking so that funds can be transferred easily without any hassle during emergencies such as flight cancellations or sicknesses during travel time (which happens quite often).

  • Find out About the Weather

Weather plays an important role when travelling anywhere, especially if you are travelling with kids or older adults who might not be able to handle extreme weather conditions very well. Please find out about the weather before you go so that it does not ruin your vacation completely!

  • Pack at least one pair of trekking shoes

Himalayan trekking is a popular activity in Himachal Pradesh. You should always take along suitable shoes for trekking, especially if you are going on an overnight hike or in winter when it gets very cold up in the mountains. If you don’t have any trekking shoes with you, rent them from a travel agency which offers such facilities.

  • Interact with the locals

The locals are amiable and will be more than happy to help you with all the information you need. If you want to see things from their perspective, then interacting with them is a good idea because it will give you a better understanding of their culture and traditions.

  • Stay safe when driving

Himachal Pradesh known for its scenic beauty, so it’s no surprise that most people visit the state to enjoy nature. However, it would help if you took some safety measures while driving on roads with steep slopes or sharp curves. It is also important to avoid visiting isolated areas at night or after sunset. Stay safe, especially when driving alone!

  • Be mindful of the culture

Before travelling to any new place, it’s essential to be aware of the culture and traditions of the people there. In Himachal Pradesh , you’ll find people who have preserved their traditions and culture despite being in touch with the outside world. You can experience this when you go sightseeing or shop at local markets. Make sure you respect their culture and traditions as well.

A 7-day itinerary for Himachal Pradesh

Arka Roy Chowdhury , TRAVEL TRENDS , HIMACHAL PRADESH Updated : Apr 5, 2022, 14:45 IST

plan my trip to himachal pradesh

Journey into the Himalayas

Himachal Pradesh is one of the many gifts that the Himalayas has given us in India. The enchanting hill state is home to so many wondrous destinations, full of beauty and charm. The tall mountains surely stir our hearts in more ways than one. Here is a 7-day guide for a trip to Himachal Pradesh.

Day 1 - Chandigarh to Shimla

The distance between these two is only about 112 km by road, which takes roughly 2 hours 30 minutes. You can also start from Delhi and go via Chandigarh, but that would take more than 7 hours. Travelling by road is best as the views gradually change, and it allows you to understand and soak in all the beauty of nature.

Day 2 - Explore Shimla

Shimla is one of the most popular destinations in Himachal Pradesh. There is a lot to do here, like riding the toy train, walking the mall road, paragliding, cycling, the list is endless. You cal also walk as far as you can, and lose yourself to nature. Then start cafe hopping in late afternoon.

Day 3 -Day trip to Mashobra

Mashobra is only 10 km away from Shimla, and you have to make it to this fine destination for a day trip. The Reserve Forest Sanctuary here is a must-visit, and so is the Tattapani River for river rafting experience. Mashobra is also home to some temples that you could visit, before returning to Shimla to spend the night.

Day 4 - Shimla to Manali

Start your day early, and head towards Manali. It should take around 6 hours by road. You could also fly from Shimla Airport to Bhuntar Airport, which is only an hour away from Manali, as that would save a lot of time. On this day in Manali, we suggest you take in the sights and sounds of this magnificent destination. It is truly breathtaking.

Day 5 - Solang Valley, Beas River

Whoever comes to Manali, must visit the breathtaking Solang Valley. While the destination is truly charming, the drive up to the valley is quite an alluring one. Here in Solang Valley you can experience paragliding, skiing, horse riding, or also hire an ATV bike and experience the thrill of it all. On your way back, stop by the Beas River, and take some time to contemplate by the river. Also, the views are perfect for photography.

Day 6- Go to Kasol

If you thought Manali is beautiful, wait until you reach Kasol. It is only about a 2 hour drive away from Manali, and nature gets progressively more untamed. The beautiful destination is perfect for soul-searchers, for those who want to spend a day without the intervention of usual city life, and societal rules. Situated in the Parvati Valley, it is one of Himachal Pradesh's crowning jewels.

Day 7 - Head back

Start early, and drive down to the Kalka Railway Station. You can catch a train to Delhi, or even towards eastern India, Howrah. On the other hand, you can even go to Shimla airport and catch a flight.

Travelers often choose Shimla for its mind-blowing landscapes, frondescence, many activities, and perfect weather. Upon your arrival, check-in at the hotel and relax or go for a stroll around.

Overnight stay in Shimla.

Begin the day with a healthy breakfast, and make your way for a tour to Kufri. Take a yak and horse ride, and experience the thrill by trekking to Mahasu Peak. For the best experience, the ideal time to visit Kufri is winter. During this time, the town turns into a paradise ideal for skiing. Enjoy a stroll at Mall Road and try the activities before returning to Shimla.

Wake up and savor a delicious breakfast. Leave for Manali. The hill station is one of the most chosen honeymoon destinations in India. The drive from Shimla to Manali will be long, but the surrounding beauty will keep you hooked. Upon your arrival, check in at the hotel and unwind.

Overnight stay in Manali.

Begin day 4 of the Complete Himachal Package with a hearty breakfast and head out for an exciting tour to Rohtang Pass. As you reach, rent a bodysuit and snow boots, and get ready to play with snow. This tourist place sits at 3,979 m and offers astounding views. Later, make your way back to Manali and spend some time on Mall Road.

A tour of the famous attractions of Manali is lined up for this day. From indulging in activities like zorbing and paragliding to visiting Tibetan Monastery and Vashisht Village. You can also head to Hadimba Devi Temple and Manu Temple to seek blessings. The rest of the evening is free for leisure activities.

Relish the morning meal and pack your bags as day 8 has some surprises in store for you. Owning its name from Lord Dalhousie, he is the one who built this place from scratch as a summer retreat. Call it the elegance of the architecture, or the natural charms, Dalhousie is all things beautiful. You can choose to go out and explore the place on your own.

Night stay in Dalhousie.

Post breakfast, it's time to get ready for a sightseeing tour in Dalhousie. Subhash Baoli, Panchpula, Bara Pathar, St. John's Church, and Bakrota Hills are some of the attractions you will be covering.

A s the calendar turns a new leaf, Himachal Pradesh emerges as a coveted destination for New Year celebrations. The Himalayan state has already received an influx of tourists since Christmas. Therefore, it’s important to know the latest updates on road and highway conditions, which equips us with essential information for a seamless journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Himachal during the festive season.

The important highway connecting Mandi to Kullu via Kamand-Kataula is presently closed for heavy vehicles, only LMVs (Light Motor Vehicles) and route buses up to 32 seater are allowed.

NH 21 at Kainchi Mor near Pandoh dam in Mandi district, which connects Kullu region, was washed away in flash floods earlier this year in the state. A makeshift link road of 400 m was built by PWD behind Pandoh Dam connecting to a village road, thus a bypass link road of distance 4.5 km has been created on which the whole of NH traffic is being run, Mandi Police mentioned on X.

This road has been widened by PWD for crossing of LMVs in both directions, but the movement of heavy vehicles is only unidirectional in turn, as per Mandi Police.

Notably, the vital highways connecting Delhi-Manali, Manali-Kaza, Kelong-Kaza, and Keylong-Leh are presently open 24*7, the district Lahual and Spiti mentioned on their website.

Himachal restricts departments for diesel-petrol vehicles from today

To achieve the goal of ‘Green and Clean Himachal’, CM Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed all government departments not to buy diesel or petrol vehicles from today (January 01, 2024).

This has been done to promote e-vehicles on a large scale in the state. If necessary, the departments will be able to purchase petrol or diesel vehicles only after the approval of the state cabinet.

Aiming for Vyavastha Parivartan, CM Shukhu said, “Due to the consistent efforts of the government the number of government e-vehicles has reached 185, while that of private electric vehicles registered in the state is 2,733.”

CM’s Shimla winter carnival inspection

On New Year’s Eve, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, accompanied by his cabinet colleagues, took a stroll and inspected the arrangements at Mall Road of Shimla, extending warm greetings to the public and tourists. The Chief Minister also visited the Winter Carnival at the Ridge and enjoyed the cultural programme.

plan my trip to himachal pradesh

I am planning a trip during last week of March for 8days with my wife and 3 year old kid from Delhi.

Travel preference is not to make it too hectic.

First preference is Manali however weather forecasts for this March 2024 are quite freezing and don't want to land in a situation where kid is not able to enjoy and we are staying indoors. (15°/-1°)

Source of weather forecast is AccuWeather

however last year Mar 23, it's showing 30°/16°. So either it's too cold this year or accuracy is in question.

Need guidance to finalize the location between Manali or Dalhousie.

Thanks in advance
