What travellers are saying.
Maori Experience Rotorua
You’ll know you’ve arrived in Rotorua when your nostrils detect that distinct sulphuric smell that pervades the city. Some say that it smells like rotten eggs, the locals don’t love you mentioning it (you get used to it if you stay a week or more), but we say that the smell is a small price to pay when you get to see some really unique geothermal attractions including spouting geysers, bubbling mud pools, and hissing fumaroles. Rotorua is also home to many Māori cultural experiences, and it is here that you’ll experience a pōwhiri – a traditional Māori welcoming ceremony.
NEW ZEALAND’S MOST DYNAMIC GEOTHERMAL HOTSPOT
Set within an active geothermal field that includes Taupō and Tongariro National Park, Rotorua is one of the few places in the world where extraordinary geothermal phenomena is the norm. Aside from the star attractions that we’ll take you to (including spectacular hot springs known to the Māori as ‘Sacred Waters’, and a legendary geyser that erupts to a height of 30m), you might also notice steam wafting from drains and mud boiling in public parks – and that’s okay! Just be sure to watch where you walk as you encounter these hot and steamy attractions.
MĀORI CULTURE, ARTS & HOSPITALITY
Māori have lived in this region since the thirteenth century and made great use of the naturally heated waters and earth around the region to cook, bathe and warm themselves. Rotorua is rich in Māori history and folklore and we will take some time here to visit the home to the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute where we’ll also be treated to an impressive cultural performance and take a tour of an authentic pre-European village.
THE TOWN BUILT FOR ADVENTURE
Rotorua is unique in New Zealand as it was built on the southern shore of Lake Rotorua by the government in the 1880s to cater to the tourists visiting the thermal springs in the area and ‘taking the waters’. Over the years, the town has extended its offerings by catering to the adventure seeker and mountain bike enthusiast. Aside from admiring all the volcanic and geothermal wonders and getting an insight into Māori culture, you can also speed down a hill in a luge, roll down a hill in a giant inflatable ball, go white water rafting over highest commercial waterfall drop in the world, try river sledging or thread your way through a giant redwood forest on mountain bike trails. There are numerous activities for every type of tourist to include in their Rotorua holiday package. Although we do not offer a full Rotorua tour package from Auckland, many of our tours stop here for two nights, allowing guests more time to fit in all the activities they can manage.
TRACKS BUILT FOR BIKERS
Surrounded by mountains, crystal clear streams, native forests and 18 freshwater lakes Rotorua is the perfect place to have a two-wheeled adventure and reconnect with nature – and then relax tired muscles in a geothermally heated hot spring! Recognised as a mountain biking mecca with around 130km of world-class mountain bike trails that are also used for the annual Crankworx, MTB fans love riding through Rotorua’s forests and amongst active geothermal fields.

Things to do on a tour to rotorua.
An iconic tourism destination for people from across the world, Rotorua holds a lot of offerings to leave you aghast. Move back in time with a visit to Maori villages. As you navigate through the dense forest, a unique picture of Maori lifestyle and traditions - with singing, dancing and a traditional hangi feast to enjoy will make your day. You may also learn about the traditional Maori arts preserved at the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute (Te Puia). And, if you are looking for a 'real slice of New Zealand', a marae stay, hosted by an extended Maori family (whanau) is a must. What’s more? With our Rotorua tour packages, on the Kaituna River, you may raft over the world's highest commercially raftable waterfall at 7 meters high. Isn’t that exhilarating? Have some fun while you sail or kayak to Manupirua Hot Springs outdoor thermal pools which can be accessed only by boat on Lake Rotoiti. With an incredible network of trails, swing bridges, ziplines, and tree platforms, your Rotorua Canopy Tours are a mix of thrill and wonder. Hop on a gondola at the top of Mount Ngongotaha, and scream your heart out on the Sky Swing. Famed for its range of unique spa therapies, here’s your chance to renew your sense of wellbeing. Visit New Zealand's only mud baths at Hells Gate, and pamper yourself with a traditional Maori Miri Miri massage and mud therapies at Wai Ora Day Spa.
A place to visit during a Rotorua tour
Nestled beside the cerulean blue Lake Rotorua, this exotic town is home to some unique tourism sites in the world. Marvel at the natural wonders of Te Puia while exploring its thermal valley of geysers, streams of boiling water and hot mud pools, and peek into Maori culture through traditional art forms. Visit the Agrodome- New Zealand’s one of the most loved attractions and a fun window into the farming culture. Experience native flora and fauna at Rainbow Springs Nature Park, including New Zealand’s national icon, the Kiwi, where a special Kiwi Encounter let you see the nursery and hatchery for these endangered birds. Get on a full day tour from Rotorua and visit Matamata, home to the famous Hobbiton Movie Set Tours where movie magic was made for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, or you may choose a tout to Waitomo Caves to marvel at the incredible limestone formations and enjoy a boat ride through the glowworm grotto. Waimangu Volcanic Valley- the youngest geothermal ecosystem in the world with the largest hot water spring is also one of the must-visits on a Rotorua tour.

Albeit, Rotorua is one of the most popular tourist spots in New Zealand, it still maintains its small-town charm.
How to reach Rotorua
Well connected to the rest of New Zealand and the world through a network of air, road, and rail transport mediums, it’s quite easy to reach Rotorua. The city is 457 km from the country’s capital, Wellington and less than 3 hours drive from Auckland which is situated at a distance of 234 km. With nearly a half of New Zealand’s population living within 300 km of Rotorua, it’s an ideal location to live, an easy-to-get-to holiday destination, and a growing popular location for conventions, major sports, and cultural and entertainment events. Rotorua’s airport is one of the busiest domestic terminals in New Zealand, while Five State Highways form a vital link between the city and the rest of the country. Visit Rotorua Lakes District and Bay of Plenty Region for plenty of quality activities including adventure, excitement, fun, and entertainment, ideal for a relaxing holiday.

Donald Glover's 1st Childish Gambino tour since 2018 is coming to Phoenix. How to see it
Donald Glover is touring as Childish Gambino, bringing the New World Tour to Footprint Center in Phoenix with special guest Willow on Monday, Sept. 16.
This is Glover’s first Childish Gambino tour since 2018-2019, and follows the release of “Atavista,” an album he’s said is the “finished version of 2020’s '3.15.20.'”
That last tour, which was named for his “This Is America” single, played Desert Diamond Arena (then called Gila River Arena) in December 2018.
The tour announcement was accompanied by the release of a new video for “Little Big Foot,” featuring Young Nudy.
There’s also more new music on the way.
