Top 12 Places for a Fun and Unique Girls Trip in the United States

Looking for some destination inspiration for a girls getaway in the United States? After the past couples years we’ve had, I’m right there with you!

Some quality time with your best girlfriends is just what you need, but you likely still want to go somewhere that makes it easy to be outside and where you can keep your distance from strangers.

With that in mind, I’ve put together my recommendation for the top 12 girls trips to do in 2022 in the U.S.

Santa Barbara, California

Santa Barbara is located right in the center of California’s stunning coastline. It’s surprisingly easy to get to thanks to Santa Barbara Airport located on the outskirts of the city, and the airport in nearby San Luis Obispo, plus it’s just a few hours from either LAX (Los Angeles) or SFO (San Francisco).

In Santa Barbara, you’ll find a sleepier beach city than in those aforementioned ones and you don’t have to go far to find incredible views. Look in one direction and there’s the glorious blue of the Pacific while in the other direction are the peaks of the mountains.

The neighborhoods within the city itself are also pleasantly adorable with adobe style houses and understated buildings that don’t detract from the beautiful natural surroundings.

One of my favorite aspects of Santa Barbara is how walkable it is and easy to spend time outdoors. You and your friends can walk up and down the lovely Main Street which is lined with leafy trees and dotted with the tables of cafés on the sidewalks.

If on a girlfriends getaway to Santa Barbara, you’ll no doubt want to take some time popping into some of the shops. Then head down one of the side streets to visit the Santa Barbara County Courthouse; from the bell tower you’ll get gorgeous views of the ocean and Santa Barbara’s terra-cotta colored rooftops.

You’ll also wanna spend some time along the urban wine trail, a fun part of Santa Barbara that is just a mile from Main Street and only a couple blocks from the beach.

The Urban Wine Trail consists of a dozen or so local wineries that have opened little tasting rooms in Santa Barbara. Many of these tasting rooms have funky decor and a hip ambience and several have either an open-air ambience inside or an outdoor patio on which you can taste some of the areas excellent wines.

Then, of course, there’s the beach, and Santa Barbara has one of the prettiest in all of California in my opinion (and I’m not just saying that because I got married on it!).

Big Sky, MT

Montana is one destination that has quickly gained prominence during the events of the past year. Long known for its wide open spaces, low population density, and miles up miles of landscape unmarred by civilization has made it a hot spot for weary city dwellers. 

Big Sky Resort is a top choice for a girls trip because of it many vacation rentals close to fun outdoor activities.

If there in the winter, you’ll have fun on the slopes skiing or snowboarding. In the summer months, those chair lifts take you to epic views and unforgettable hiking trails. Or if you and your girlfriends are feeling extra adventurous, you can even do some mountain biking in the summer or go whitewater rafting on the nearby Gallatin River. 

The town center in Big Sky isn’t that big, but you’re less than 30 minutes from bars, restaurants, and shopping in Bozeman. 

Whitefish Mountain is another great spot for some outdoor adventures during a girls getaway in Montana . 

Rockaway Beach, Oregon

If you’re looking for a lazy, relaxing, beach-filled girls weekend that is devoid of crowds on the west coast, look no farther than Rockaway Beach, Oregon. While I visited there as a family vacation, I also think it’s a great spot for a girls getaway in 2022. 

When I was there, it was August on a weekend that just happened to be the nicest weekend of the summer — and we still had the beach almost all to ourselves in the evenings! And in the day it was still delightfully uncrowded.

Rockaway Beach’s main street is short and unassuming so you won’t find many crowds there, such as in popular Cannon Beach to the north. Most shops and restaurants close early.

Rent a vacation house or condo on the beach with your girlfriends, get takeout, cook up some local crab and create fun memories, and just relax as you take in the gorgeous surf of the Pacific.

Traverse City, Michigan

Having family that lives in Michigan, I’m lucky that I have had a chance to explore the state. Most people just think of Michigan as being the big metropolis that is Detroit, but the northern region of Michigan is absolutely gorgeous and in my opinion is one of the best kept travel secrets in America.

While you probably won’t want to do a girls trip to northern Michigan in winter (it’s cold!), going there in late spring, summer, early fall will have you enjoying pleasant weather that is perfect for visiting all of the lakes nearby or playing on the Sleeping Bear Dunes by Lake Michigan.

In addition, if you time your visit for 4th of July weekend, you can attend the National Cherry Festival (if it’s happening). If not, you’ll still be there when cherries are in season and you can enjoy some awesome cherry pie and other cherry delicacies.

The downtown area of Traverse City is also fun with lots of cute bars and yummy restaurants.

While in Traverse City, you can also do a day trip to gorgeous Mackinac Island , a car-free island that has a swoony old hotel with a wraparound porch that is perfect for a day drink. 

North County San Diego, CA

A perennial favorite girls getaway destination is San Diego, California. As much as I love the city sights and beaches of my old hometown of San Diego, in 2022 you may want to turn your attention north and check out what locals refer to as North County. 

The small coastal cities (Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside) leading up the coast of San Diego County all have charming downtown areas, gorgeous beaches, and a wide range of accommodations. 

If you don’t care about being close to the ocean, move your trip inland to Escondido for better deals and wide open spaces. In Escondido, you can be close to the Safari Park (an incredible extension of the San Diego Zoo) and multiple wineries, plus my favorite beer garden at Stone Brewing Company.

Charleston, South Carolina 

Charleston is one of the hottest destinations in the US right now for travelers. It makes for an incredible girls getaway since you’ll find a blend of beaches, restaurants, shopping, and beautiful historic areas.

Those who want to do a little “maybe someday in the future” dreaming will enjoy walking down The Battery where you can see some of Charleston‘s most epic houses and mansions. Gossip it up with your girlfriends about how you would decorate if you were one of the rich and famous people living there.

For some retail therapy head to Charleston City Market, while Kaminsky’s is a great place for dessert.

Seattle Suburbs

After all the press Seattle has gotten in 2020 you might be thinking it is definitely not where you want to go for a trip right now; however, Seattle is much more than just its city center.

The area around Seattle is jaw-droppingly gorgeous, and there are numerous small cities that have fun nightlife, excellent shopping, and world-class restaurants all within a 30- to 45-minute drive from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

One of those cities is Kirkland.

For a city-based girls trip in the Pacific Northwest I recommend the city of Kirkland because it is located right across from Lake Washington from Seattle and it has adorable little beaches lining that lake. Making these beaches even better is the fact that you can gaze at gorgeous views of the Seattle skyline on a clear day.

Girls Night Tip: For a fun after-dinner drink you and your friends won’t forget, head to the adorable Lady Yum bakery for incredible macaroons you can order alongside Champagne.

Kirkland’s beaches are also all right next to the city center of Kirkland where you’ll find parks, alfresco bars and dining, and lots of shopping.

I also like Kirkland for a getaway because it’s a short drive from Woodinville, which is Seattle’s little wine tasting area and features tasting rooms for many of the wineries located in Walla Walla (Washington’s premier wine growing region).

At Château St. Michelle in Woodinville you can order a bottle of wine and then go have a picnic on the winery’s huge grassy area. Plus, there are many more winery tasting rooms to check out where you’ll find outdoor patios.

Some other options for fun places to go around Seattle that I recommend are Edmonds, Issaquah, Whidbey Island, and Snoqualmie.

All of these places are close enough that you can do a day trip to Seattle or Mt. Rainier, too:

Chicago, Illinois

When it comes to girls trips, Chicago will always hold a special place in my heart since it’s the first destination getaway I did with two of my college besties when we decided we needed to meet up after several years apart living in different states.

Chicago was the perfect place for our girls weekend, even in the middle of winter. While most people are still going to be staying away from big cities in 2022, travelers in the know are aware that Chicago is one large city that has a lot of outdoor activities you can do.

Granted, unless you’re used to cold winter weather you might want to save your outdoor time in Chicago for the spring, summer, or fall months, but there is fun to be had outdoors whenever you go.

But one reason to stick to the warmer months for a girls getaway to Chicago is because of the beaches lining the water’s edge of downtown, where you’ll find beaches that look like they belong in the Caribbean but are right in the middle of the Midwest!

Another fun place to go for an outdoor stroll is Millennium Park, where you can see the famous “Bean” statue.

Miami, Florida

If you’re looking for some glitz and glam in a beachy setting, grab your girlfriends and head south for a getaway to Miami .

You can avoid the crowded hotspots like South Beach and still have an incredible time in this popular Florida city.

Experience some local culture on your girls trip with an amble around the outdoor Wynwood Walls, where you can see incredible art street art.

The murals are also located located right in the center of the Wynwood neighborhood where you’ll find some of Miami’s best restaurants as well as an array of excellent boutiques. This is also where most of Miami’s best breweries are located, the majority of which have outdoor patios and seating areas.

Newport, Rhode Island

I just adore Newport, Rhode Island! It’s a top pick of mine for a girls getaway in 2022 due to the outdoor walking paths, beautiful downtown area right by the harbor, and incredible old mansions built in the gilded age that you can tour. 

Plus, if you and your friends are into the new hit show, the Gilded Age , you’ll love walking around Newport and visiting the stately historic homes.

Dallas, Texas

Have an art and history filled girls weekend in Texas with a trip to Dallas. 

Often overlooked by out-of-staters for the hip destination city of Austin, Dallas is also worthy of a weekend away in 2022, with plenty of outdoor spots for dining and sightseeing.

Visit the Grassy Knoll where President Kennedy was assassinated, then tour the Sixth Floor Museum dedicated to his life and the events that conspired that led to his death.

The art museums in Dallas are also worth touring, as is a jaunt to the top of the Reunion Tower for incredible views of the city.

Kauai, Hawaii

Of course you could also go all out for your girls vacation and fly to the exotic, beautiful islands of Hawaii. While traveling far distances is sometimes still concerning in recent years, Hawaii gives you the comfort of not having to worry about international borders closing while still going somewhere that fels exotic. This makes Hawaii a great choice if you do have to fly somewhere to meet up with your best girlfriends.

My top pick for a girls getaway in Hawaii is to the island of Kauai: you and your girlfriends can play on the beach, drive up to Waimea Canyon, go snorkeling, or walk around the open-air shopping center in Princeville.

When you think of girls’ weekend getaways, what comes to mind? Sun, shopping, spa, wine? Sure, me too. Those are always fun things to do with friends. But your next girls’ trip doesn’t need to be to popular but pricey hot spots like Charleston, Nashville, Napa , Santa Fe, Las Vegas, or Key West . It is time to think a little out of the box.

Since the purpose of a girlfriend getaway is the time you spend together, there are so many fun spots to have a girls’ getaway that don’t have to cost an arm-and-a-leg. These are some trip ideas that will also let you try something new, learn something, or have a unique bonding experience in destinations that may never have dawned on you as being perfect for a girls’ trip.

Unique Destinations for Girls’ Weekend Getaways

Living in New England, Maine has become my go-to girls’ weekend getaway destination, especially for my friends that love the outdoors and adventure as much as I do! My friend Kim and I have spent a girl’s trip relaxing at a cabin in Moosehead Lake . Our days were filled with hiking, moose safaris, naps, and laughter while our evenings were spent reading, talking, cooking, and drinking wine together.

My friend Tracy and I took a trip from Portland, Maine to the Inn at Diamond Cove . After enjoying lobster and shopping in Portland, we took the ferry to Great Diamond Island for a relaxing and car-free stay. We spent our days exploring the island, searching for sea glass, and relaxing on private beaches and our evenings enjoying fine dining and beautiful sunsets.

This past summer, my friend Michelle and I had a unique adventure on the Schooner Heritage , a Maine Windjammer that cruises out of Rockland, Maine. We made friends with fellow passengers, helped the crew raise and lower the sails, and enjoyed the scenic views of the Maine coast — topped off with an authentic Maine lobster bake on a deserted beach.

Whether you prefer mountains and lakes or Maine’s rocky coast, there is a unique girls’ trip location waiting for you in Maine.

2. Fort Wayne, Indiana

Fort Wayne has two big claims to fame — Vera Bradley and the Genealogy Center, which is the nation’s second-largest genealogy collection, and a great place to research family history. Yes, the Vera Bradley Annual Outlet Sale is a great time to visit and shop on a girl’s trip, but there is plenty more to enjoy in Fort Wayne for a weekend getaway.

Start off by renting kayaks, bikes, or paddle boards from Fort Wayne Outfitters and explore the riverfront in Promenade Park. Afterward, check out The Landing neighborhood, which used to be where canal boats docked to unload goods. In this new food and entertainment district, you can fill up at The Landing Beer Company or enjoy farm-to-fork dining at Tolon. Fort Wayne is also home to one of the largest Burmese populations outside of Thailand so you may want to sample authentic Burmese dishes at restaurants like Mahnin.

Your gal pals will also love searching out some of the murals that are part of Fort Wayne’s growing public art scene, shopping at great downtown boutiques, and sampling the goods at DeBrand Fine Chocolates.

3. Glacier Country, Montana

If you are looking for an outdoor adventure combined with cute towns, local breweries and distilleries, and one-of-a-kind adventures, head to Glacier Country in Western Montana. My friend Keryn and I recently came back from a Montana girlfriend getaway and we had the best time just reconnecting and enjoying nature.

From the epic views of Glacier National Park to the lesser-trod gems like the Kootenai Falls and Suspension Bridge or Ross Creek Cedars, you won’t run out of room or fun ways to get outdoors. A highlight of our trip was getting to try llama trekking and I’m convinced this is the best way to hike!

Where to stay: For a short stay, fly in and out of Missoula and stay at the Residence Inn Missoula downtown where you can walk to cute boutiques, restaurants, day spas, and cocktail bars. For a small-town setting, book a cabin at Bridge Street Cottages in Big Fork, Montana.

4. Franklin, Tennessee

Just a half-hour south of Nashville lies the cutest little downtown with a great American Main Street that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There is a reason the town has appeared in so many Hallmark movies! In downtown Franklin, you will find unique shops, restaurants, antique stores, entertainment, and the arts. It is also a great spot to explore Civil War history or take some tasting tours at local distilleries on a day trip along the Masters & Makers Trail.

If you want to stay active, try paddle boarding on the Harpeth River, bike out to Leiper’s Fork, or challenge yourself at the SOAR Adventure Park.  Nearby you can also explore sections of the Natchez Trace Parkway, a 444-mile “All American” national scenic byway, which follows the course of the ancient trace traveled for centuries by tradesmen and Native Americans from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee.

A photo with your friends in front of the double arch bridge is the perfect memento for your trip. Be sure to check out the Visit Franklin website to see if you can coordinate your visit with any of the area’s fun festivals or events.

Where to stay: The Harpeth Franklin Downtown , a Curio Collection by Hilton property, which is just steps away from Main Street.

5. El Paso, Texas

El Paso, Texas is one of those unexpected spots for a girls’ getaway. I visited with my friend Kim a few years ago and it was great because she was coming from the West Coast and I was from the East Coast, so we got to meet somewhat in the middle and experience something new. It was a fun mix of adventure, eating, drinking, and shopping in the American Southwest.

You can’t miss browsing at some of the boot factory outlets around town. We even had a chance to watch some of the master bookmakers in action at the Lucchese factory before I snagged a new pair of snazzy boots.

We also explored downtown and had fun with our Instagram poses in front of the many murals. I developed a fondness for all things green chili, while we slugged down margaritas the size of our heads and steaks the size of a platter. Don’t worry, we worked some of it off hiking in Franklin Mountain State Park (even did a little spelunking!) and off-roading at Red Sands, where I learned I’m terrible at driving an ATV. To chill out, we popped into nearby New Mexico for some wine tasting at local wineries.

Where to stay : Hotel Indigo was perfect for a girl’s trip with a rooftop pool and bar and lots of local flair.

6. Buffalo, New York

If you love a destination with a great urban transformation story, it is time to check out Buffalo, New York. In recent years, Buffalo has redeveloped its waterfront and revitalized neighborhoods with over $1 billion in new investment. History lovers can explore the robust history of this region, from its original Senecan inhabitants to its time as the Gateway to the West on the Eerie Canal, to its critical role in the Underground Railroad. Once home to many wealthy industrialists, the city has a number of Frank Lloyd Wright homes and restored architecture.

What may really surprise you is the city’s rising prominence as a foodie destination. Famous for the spicy wings first introduced at the Anchor Bar, there are many other “ must eat” foods in Buffalo, from sponge candy to beef on weck sandwiches. Follow the many food trails, experience the international flavors brought to the city by immigrants from Southeast Asia and Africa, and check out some of the city’s burgeoning craft beer purveyors. Where to stay: Hotel at the Lafayette is a boutique hotel built in 1904. This landmark French Renaissance-style hotel was designed by Louise Blanchard Bethune, the first American female architect, making it perfect for a girls’ weekend.

7. Oceanside, California

If you are looking for a SoCal beach getaway, skip the tourist spots and head to Oceanside. Located between LA and San Diego, you can even access Oceanside on the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train for a car-free trip. This beach town has a laid-back vibe with gorgeous beaches, a historic wooden pier, a quaint New England-style harbor, and charming bungalow neighborhoods.

You can explore surf culture at the California Surf Museum, or take a surf lesson and catch some waves yourselves. O’side (as locals affectionately call it), is a perfect spot for outdoor adventures from paddle boarding and biking to bucket list activities like sky diving and helicopter tours. Movie fans will get a kick out of seeing the Top Gun house, while shopping aficionados will enjoy strolling through The Rising Co., a fun makers space/co-op with several noteworthy local artisans such as Rais Case, which makes handmade leather goods. Where to stay: Mission Pacific Hotel has a rooftop pool and a fun bohemian style, and ocean views, and is a fun alternative located in the heart of downtown is The Fin Hotel , part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton. This 26-room boutique hotel is in a historic building with many of the original architectural and design details, but modernized rooms.

8. Outer Banks, North Carolina

The beach house rentals available in the Outer Banks make it a perfect laid-back, girls’ trip destination for a large friend group. This was actually where I used to go with my college girlfriends back in my 20s, but it is still a perfect pick decades later. In addition to enjoying the beach and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, you can get your thrills by trying out hang gliding off the 90-foot sand dunes at Jockey’s Ridge.

Seafood fans can explore the newly-launched North Carolina Oyster Trail, and then stop at a few of the local breweries. A visit to Roanoke will take you back to America’s earliest colonial history, and a climb to the top of America’s tallest brick lighthouse in Cape Hatteras will make a perfect photo opp to remember your trip.

9. Cincinnati, Ohio

The Queen City rises to the top of the list when considering the perfect midwest destination for a girlfriend getaway.  Situated along the scenic Ohio River, Cincinnati surprises visitors with an array of entertainment, an eclectic food scene, and plenty of lively happenings. 

The first stop on any girlfriend getaway is Cincinnati’s historic neighborhood, Over-The-Rhine (OTR). This neighborhood has seen a massive transformation over the past decade, shaping it into today’s incredible destination. OTR is full of boutique shops, cocktail bars, craft breweries, and some of the city’s best food. Don’t miss favorites such as the Eagle’s fried chicken, a classic donut from Holtman’s, or gourmet tacos from Bakersfield. 

Downtown, you will find the Aronoff Center for the Arts for those looking to catch a Broadway performance. Before you the show you can try to snag dinner reservations at nearby Sotto or Nada. 

A girlfriend getaway is never complete without a mimosa or bloody mary! Cincinnati’s brunch scene is booming, offering creative dishes, and fresh local ingredients in an upbeat atmosphere.  Splurge on an exquisite brunch buffet at the Orchids of Palm Court or dine at a must-visit spot like Taste of Belgium. While the Taste of Belgium is known for its decant waffles, they also serve various traditional Belgium recipes with a twist. 

Step into one of Cincinnati’s gorgeous museums and exhibits like the Cincinnati Art Museum in Eden Park, Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal, and the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center.   Enhance your art experience by touring the city with a self-guided walking tour of the downtown Artworks Murals. While there are over 130 murals throughout the city’s regions, many popular ones are found downtown and  OTR. Cap off any visit to Cincinnati with a stroll along the lovely riverwalk at Smale Riverfront Park while enjoying a scoop of Graeter’s Ice Cream. 

Where to stay: 21c Museum Hotel is located in the heart of the Queen City and this unique modern hotel offers a luxurious spa, a beautiful rooftop bar, and a contemporary art museum. 

10. Providence, Rhode Island

The “Creative Capital” of the country’s smallest state is a great New England girls’ weekend destination . Perfect for foodies, you can spend your whole weekend seeking out the city’s best restaurants, breweries, food trucks, and pop-ups. Or, make it easy and take a food tour with Rhode Island Reds.

Get your exercise by biking the East Bay Bike Path, kayaking through downtown with Providence Kayaks, or climbing College Hill and finishing with a walk across the Pedestrian Bridge. The best boutique shopping is found on Westminster Street or in Wayland Square. For relaxation, book a treatment at the Bodhi hydrotherapy spa.

Where to stay: Hotel Providence is an ideal boutique hotel option in the heart of downtown, or pick the Dean Hotel for something funky. The new aLoft Providence also has a great location and a fun roof-top bar.

11. Door County, Wisconsin

Door County sits at the tip of a peninsula north of Green Bay. Door County is a popular Midwest summer and fall destination. The popular Door County Wine trail, which includes stops at eight local wineries, is a perfect part of a girls’ trip. There are cute local shops all over the peninsula, but take extra time to walk and explore downtown Fish Creek. It’s situated right on the water and there are some lovely restaurants. The historic White Gull Inn has a delicious French toast with cherry cream cheese filling that everyone should try once in their life. 

Be sure to leave time to explore Door County’s five state parks where visitors can try everything from kayaking to exploring the island’s lighthouses (there are 11 of them). Your group should also make plans to attend a local fish boil. Door County was settled by Scandinavian immigrants and a fish boil was part of their culture. Many local restaurants prepare the fish according to traditional methods and tell stories along with the meal. It’s definitely a fun night out.

Door County also has a lavender farm (Washington Island), you-pick orchards (cherries and apples depending on the season), and seasonal festivals. There is truly something for everyone in Door County.

Where to stay: There are vacation rentals all over Door County, but consider choosing a place that is within walking distance of shops and amenities. Ephraim and Fish Creek are good choices. For a hotel stay consider Ashbrooke Hotel in Egg Harbor, Edgewater Resort in Ephraim, or White Gull Inn in Fish Creek. 

12. Excelsior Springs, Missouri

Back in its heyday in the late 1800s, Excelsior Springs drew hundreds of tourists and families hoping to drink or soak in the supposedly healing mineral waters from the dozens of springs and wells on the hillsides. The springs are long closed, but now the Missouri town near Kansas City is a relaxing destination for girlfriends who want a little pampering. Kim from Oh My! Omaha recommends the fabulous spa and accommodations at The Elms Hotel & Spa , a historic hotel. 

The hotel’s lavish outdoor pool is an attraction in the summer, but the indoor spa is a year-round treat. The hotel’s spa is well known for The Grotto, think modern Roman bath with a steam sauna, cold plunge shower, steam shower, and an exfoliation bar. Within walking distance to the hotel, you can stop at a lively brewery called Dubious Claims and hit the shops, including the Willow Springs Mercantile, which features goods made by Missouri artisans.

If wine’s more of your crew’s style, visit the nearby wineries, like VanTill Family Farm & Winery or Fence Stile Winery, which offers private wine cave tours paired with candlelit wine tasting.

13. Tempe, Arizona

If you crave some desert sunshine and a great winter escape, head to Tempe, Arizona for a girls’ trip . This small city just outside of Phoenix is home to Arizona State University, so it has the energy of a college town with the amenities of a city. Hike up to “A” Mountain for a spectacular sunrise or sunset, kayak on Tempe Town Lake, e-bike through the city, and visit the Desert Botanical Gardens.

Make sure to enjoy some great tacos, take pictures by murals, and plan an adventure like hot air ballooning or horseback riding through the desert.

Where to stay: Tempe Mission Palms Hotel and Conference Center is a perfect spot for hiking A mountain or taking the light rail from the airport and it even has a rooftop pool (although only on the second floor.)  If you are looking for something on the trendier side, you will want to stay at either The Westin Tempe , with the tallest rooftop lounge and bar in the East Valley, or the Canopy by Hilton Tempe Downtown , which offers a rooftop pool for guests.

14. Finger Lakes, New York

If your girlfriend group includes a few wine aficionados, skip Napa and head to the Finger Lakes Region in New York. Whether you stay in Ithaca or Watkins Glen on Seneca Lake , you have your choice of wine trails, state parks, and waterfalls.

Make sure you include a sunset cruise on the lake and a visit to a local farm to taste freshly-made cheeses, ice cream, or fresh produce. You can even visit an alpaca farm and take the animals for a stroll.

Where to stay: W atkins Glen Harbor Hotel is located right on Seneca Lake and offers beautiful views, yet is a short walk into downtown or Watkins Glen State Park.

15. Manchester, Vermont

If you want to explore country roads, charming towns, and beautiful scenery, a Vermont girls’ trip is just the thing. Stay in artsy Brattleboro, historic Bennington, shopping-central Manchester, or charming Woodstock. You will find ample hiking to help work off all the cheese, beer, and maple syrup you will sample along the way.

Where to stay: Kimpton Taconic Hotel in Manchester is within walking distance to the town’s many restaurants and shops, including my favorite the Northshire Bookstore. You will also find plenty of designer outlet shopping nearby.

16. Orange Beach, Alabama

During spring break and the summer, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are brimming with families. However, if you can go in the shoulder season, you can still enjoy the soft, white-sand beaches without the crowds (you just may not get much of a suntan.)

Off the water, you can fill your days indulging in the region’s tasty cuisine, visit a spa, or even make your own bath products. From dolphin watching to sunset catamarans, and paddle boards to kayaks, there are so many ways to enjoy Orange Beach. A girl’s trip wouldn’t be complete without an evening at the famous Flor-a-Bama bar.

Where to stay: Rent a condo overlooking the Gulf at Turquoise Place , complete with indoor pools and a lazy river.

17. St. Augustine, Florida

For anyone seeking the fountain of youth (and aren’t well all?), head to St. Augustine, Florida for a girlfriend getaway . Located on Florida’s northeastern “Historic Coast”, is the oldest continuously-inhabited city in the United States so it is a great destination for history buffs, but the beach is also nearby.

Have fun exploring the charming downtown on a ghost tour, food tour, or trolley tour. You can also tour local distilleries or try local craft breweries to wash down all that yummy local food.

Destination: Cabo San Lucas   Our Girlfriend: Lori Harvey The Crew: I celebrated my twenty-first birthday with my family, a few childhood friends and Teyana Taylor. (We’ve been joined at the hip since we met more than a year ago.) Where They Stayed: Casa Oliver, a private villa Lori’s Favorite Memories : The whole weekend was crazy. The ATVs were fun, even though two broke down in the middle of the tour and we had to all pile into the ones that still worked. Beach volleyball was hilarious because none of us can play, and we were trying to be cute. We also played musical chairs that got a little aggressive.

Destinatios : Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast Our Girlfriends: Hayet Rida and Danielle Young The Crew: According to Hayet: Most of the ladies were my blogger baes and the others my Chicago backbones. I was born and raised in Ghana, so I wanted to show them my home—from the beaches and food to the men and culture. I became even prouder relearning my Ashanti heritage. Hayet’s Favorite Memory : Clubbing in Ghana. Everyone was happy. We stayed at Carbon nightclub VIP-style till 4:30 A.M. Her Travel Tip: Don’t go to a country with the notion of “this is how it’s done.” You aren’t in America anymore, so let go. Danielle’s Best Memories: The welcome pool party and BBQ Hayet organized at her mother’s home was amazing, with fresh calamari and signature coconut cocktails served by an M’Baku-like waiter with a bare chest in an apron. We also went to a village in Kumasi, where we learned how they make kente cloth and we dressed like Ghanaian queens! The most unforgettable moment was of 17 Black women taking a fierce photo in front of a castle on Cape Coast, where our ancestors were kept and exported into slavery. I was nervous, but when I stood with all those free Black queens, I realized we were the image of the timeless quote: “I am my ancestors’ wildest dreams.” We have come so far to return to that space and reclaim our freedom. Her Travel Tip: Try something new. We went to Kakum National Park and hiked, which I don’t do, especially in 100-degree weather. I am out of shape, so the hike slayed me. I pushed through and made it across all the park’s seven bridges in the sky with my girls cheering me on.

Tiffany’s Favorite Memory: Outside of being totally shocked and confused by the “ping-pong show,” which is explicit, the unforgettable moment was our ride to Phi Phi Island on a speedboat with a fearless driver over treacherous and unforgiving waves. We prayed and sang nineties songs while clinging to one another for dear life. The pictures we snapped on the island are beautiful and it took a lot to get there. Her Travel Tip : Don’t fall for the misconception that traveling is always expensive. Our group has been traveling on flight deals for years. 

Destinations: Havana and Viñales Our Girlfriend: Maya Allen The Crew : I met Jasmine at Howard University and we became sorority sisters. Why It’s Girlfriend-Approved: Cuba feels like such a remote place with barely any WiFi. Since we were not connected to our phones, that made bonding natural. The scenery is beautiful and colorful for amazing photo ops. Maya’s Favorite Memories: One day we took a two-hour scenic drive up the countryside to Viñales and went horseback riding through Viñales Valley. I’ll never forget how gorgeous it was. We loved wandering around old Havana because it was like going back in time. Everyone drives old-school cars, and the architecture has such a vintage feel.

Destination: Ocho Rios Our Girlfriend: Charreah K. Jackson The Crew: The glossy posse of women who attended the first Support Your Girlfriends Weekend Getaway organized by Nikkia McClain. The trip included my bestie Arion and we snuck in some bridesmaid behavior with our girl, Charanna. Where They Stayed: Moon Palace Grande Resort & Spa Why It’s Girlfriend-Approved: Every woman deserves to be served jerk chicken, rice and peas and a frozen Bob Marley while sitting on the beach. We could not resist the pool’s swim-up bar between sushi, steak and a lavish buffet. One of the best perks was that we didn’t have to leave the resort for a sexy night out, thanks to Club Noir, a spot with Vegas vibes. Plus there’s the Piano Bar for your fancy friend who wants to feel like an old-Hollywood star for the evening. For something more relaxing, the resort reportedly has the island’s largest spa. Her Travel Tip: Definitely research your hotel before arriving. We only found out on our last day there that the property had a dolphin park with a cutie named Ziggy. 

Destination: Paris Our Girlfriend: Yolande Macon   The Crew: We all know one another from Instagram as bloggers who follow one another. We are pictured from left: Tye Glover , Sade Solomon , yours truly, Jasmine Rose , and Ijeoma Kola . Since we were each considering going, we decided to do Paris Fashion Week together in February/March. Yolandé’s Favorite Memories: We were like-minded individuals but we had not all met before, so we were a little nervous about how we would mesh. Her Travel Tips: You can’t just show up at many of the train stations and buy a ticket; plan ahead and purchase weeks in advance. India can get really cold at night during the winter months. Locals get excited when they see people they don’t normally see and ask to take pictures with you as if you are a celebrity.

I met Rushell and Marika at a women’s empowerment gathering and we hit it off. Where They Stayed: Harum Sari Private Villa Why It’s Girlfriend-Approved: If you’re looking for adventure, culture, beauty, and relaxation, go to Bali. The moment you leave the airport there’s an indescribable feeling of zen magic. The people are welcoming; there was no awkward tourist stare. It’s visually captivating, the food is delicious and the luxury spas are super affordable. Sherri’s Favorite Memory: Bathing with the elephants at the elephant sanctuary. It’s scary and exhilarating at the same time. Riding an elephant was at the very top of my bucket list. 

Destination: Santorini Our Girlfriends : Twin sisters Hermon and Heroda Berhane The Crew: We met in our mother’s womb. Where They Stayed: Zenith Blue hotel in a family cave suite with views of the volcano Why It’s Girlfriend-Approved: Santorini is a delight. It’s one of those places where you are reminded that nature is purely awesome and just beautiful. The picturesque views are beyond the imagination. Hiking is the best way to experience the culture: Just follow the awe-inspiring coastline from the darkest blue sea to the volcanos. As you keep on walking, you can see lots of little-whitewashed villages dotting the edge of the caldera—a deep bay formed by the eruption of a volcano—with the sunset poking around corners, creating spectacular color combinations on the walls. Their Travel-Tip: Our favorite place to relax, have a cocktail and watch the sunset was PK Cocktail Bar. Make sure you reserve a front-row table.

Destination: Beijing Our Girlfriend: Rushell Marshall The Crew : I’ve known Marika since I was 14. We’ve been traveling together for more than 11 years and have been to 20-plus countries together. Two years ago Sherri hit me up on Instagram about joining the trips and brought along her good friend Jessica. Where They Stayed: Nuo Hotel Beijing Rushell’s Favorite Memories: China has great landmarks and interesting food. The Great Wall was so magical, and when you have your friends they can help with dope photo opportunities. We weren’t supposed to be up there and we were watching out for anyone who would tell us to get down, but it was worth it for just five minutes. The pictures were spectacular. Her Travel Tips: In China, certain Web sites are blocked (including Instagram and Google), so download apps and directions beforehand. The air quality is bad, so grab masks if you’re staying for a while. Catching a cab was difficult (I could tell being Black was an issue), so schedule car service in advance.

Former Arkansas Teacher Gets 13 Years For Sex With Student 20 To 30 Times And On A Field Trip

A former Arkansas teacher was sentenced to serve the next 13 years in federal prison for transporting a minor across state lines for the purpose of unlawful sexual activity.

Heather Hare, 33, of Conway, was sentenced by United States District Judge Lee P. Rudofsky on Wednesday.

The investigation into Hare revealed that Hare taught Family Consumer Science classes at Bryant High School and met the minor victim on the first day of their senior year.

Hare began one-on-one counseling sessions with the minor victim, eventually giving them her personal phone number and primarily communicating with them through Instagram and Snapchat.

Hare later told the minor victim that she had a dream of them having sex and gave the victim her home address in Conway.

The minor victim and Hare engaged in sexual activity between 20 to 30 times throughout the 2021-2022 school term, including multiple times at her Conway residence, in her vehicle, and in her classroom and parking lots at Bryant High School.

Between April 21 and April 24, 2022, Hare was the sponsor and chaperone for a field trip to Washington, D.C., as part of an extracurricular activity related to the Family Consumer Science courses Hare taught.

During the field trip, Hare and the minor victim engaged in unlawful sexual activity to which she pleaded guilty.

Hare was indicted on August 1, 2023, and charged with one count of interstate/foreign travel for prostitution/sexual activity by coercion and one count of transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. In exchange for her guilty plea, the remaining charge was dismissed.

Hare was also sentenced to serve a lifetime of supervised release. Hare faced a maximum sentence of not less than 10 years imprisonment and up to life imprisonment, and not less than five years of supervised release for transportation of a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity.

“Teachers who have sex with their minor students should take note of today’s sentence for Ms. Hare which reflects the consequences of abusing her position of trust and taking advantage of the vulnerability of this minor to repeatedly engage in unlawful sexual activity,” Ross said. “Our office will continue to hold accountable those who are in a position of trust that target children and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law, as evidenced by Judge Rudofsky sentencing Ms. Hare to 13 years in federal prison.”

“The FBI takes crimes against children very seriously,” said Special Agent in Charge Alicia D. Corder, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Little Rock Field Office. “Today’s sentencing shows that the federal government will continuously work to identify, investigate, and prosecute individuals who abuse their position of trust and authority to exploit children in our community.”

America's Best Cities for Getting Away With the Girls

The older we get, the more precious time spent with our favorite people becomes. This is reason enough to champion a girls' trip — a special sojourn away from the routine of daily life to just have fun with the humans who make you laugh that ugly laugh only a small portion of people who know you have seen. Whether it's a bachelorette party, a divorce celebration or a just-because getaway, these are the cities around the country guaranteed to show your group a grand old time.

Charleston, South Carolina

You might be too awestruck to actually Instagram the vibrant, historic houses that line the Battery , but the experience walking along the harbor will be memorable even without the photo documentation. If your group is craving more culture, spend a few hours at the Gibbes Museum of Art (check the online calendar to ensure they're open) or wander through the Unitarian Church Cemetery — a really cool, if not kind of creepy park-like cemetery with trees and other foliage growing among the headstones. If you have a free Sunday morning, reserve a table at Hall's Chophouse for its lively gospel brunch. The music and food are equally good, but the drink — namely the famous house bloody mary — takes it all home.

Miami, Florida

If indulgence is a word you're associating with your girls getaway, Miami's the spot. With so many stunning hotels to choose from, it might be worth shelling out extra for a proper pool-side stay, whether you end up lodging at a place like The 1 Hotel South Beach (which always smells good) or Acqualina Resort & Spa. Palm trees and picture perfect waves make the ideal backdrop for time well spent lounging, but when you're taking a break from the beach, check out the Wynwood Arts District , where you can enjoy 50 blocks of eclectic street art, galleries, retail shopping and tons to eat and drink (including three James Beard-nominated chefs and restaurants).

Little Havana should be on your list as well: The Cuban neighborhood will transport you back in time, where while exploring galleries and sites, you must take advantage of the strong Cuban coffee. Miami's nightlife offers something for everyone, so whether it's casual drinks or table top club dancing you're after, either will be easy to find.

Austin, Texas

There's lots happening in Austin, but for your weekend away with the girls, think boating, barbecue and booze. Consider reserving a full day for a boat party on the Colorado River; the city has plenty of rental options, so you and your maties can drink, swim and relax near groups of other like-minded adventurers. For a bit more physical activity, you might rent kayaks or stand-up paddleboards to burn off the finger-lickin' goodness that you'll definitely be indulging on during your visit. If you'd rather spend the day on land, make an event out of waiting in line for Franklin's Barbecue , one of the best-known brisket joints in the city. The wait is an experience of its own — those in the know will bring beer and mimosas, games, lawn chairs and snacks to keep it entertaining. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are known to be the least packed, with an average wait time of 60 to 90 minutes. Franklin's is not the only good place to grab some grub, so be on the lookout for excellent Tex Mex and glorious vegan food, if that's more your scene. Make sure to carve out some time to enjoy some of the city's local art — Art on 5th and Austin Art Garage are two great places to start.

Sedona, Arizona

The perfect mix of adventure and chill awaits you in Sedona, where you can embark on a hike surrounded by stunning scenery and be treated to a detoxifying massage all in the same day. If you don't know where to start with the red rocks, sign up for one of the Pink Jeep Tours , where a pro will guide you off road to sites you wouldn't otherwise be able to access. Be warned: The ride will be a rocky one in every sense. Sedona lovers say being surrounded by the rich natural scenery of this place can provide those who are looking for it some spiritual healing. Sedona spas don't take the city's natural wonders for granted: At Mii Amo , for example, a Sedona clay wrap treatment incorporates the red, mineral-rich clay from the surrounding environment for the ultimate detox. At this particular spa, Native American therapies, meditation, mindfulness and reiki treatments are offered in addition to the more typical spa services.

Park City, Utah

Winter, spring, summer or fall, every season's a good season to venture out west to Park City. In the colder months, your whole gang can spend the day on the slopes, taking advantage of the imitable fresh powder. Then you'll warm up at night with a cozy cocktail-by-the-fire scene (try Molly Green's or Fletcher's for these vibes).

There's no denying that this town is a ski town, but the warmer months here are just as bustling and active: The slopes transform into mountain biking terrain, and you'll have the chance to dominate the hills while taking in the gorgeous green scenery. Your girls can experience a whole new kind of zen: Park City Yoga Adventures will bring you inside the geothermal Homestead Crater, where you'll do some downward dog atop a paddleboard. Novice yogis have no need to fret — the mineral water hovers around 95 degrees year round.

Willamette Valley, Oregon

The U.S. is home to plenty of unique winery expeditions outside of California, so open your mind and allow the wine to flow like wine in the state of Oregon. Oregon's Willamette Valley will fulfill a variety of tasting note desires, so your group of oenophiles should be pumped to explore the sprawling vineyards, of which there are many. Plan to stay here for the duration of your trip — or spend a night or two, using the other days to fall in love with Portland, which is just about an hour drive away.

You could spend your whole trip drinking — no judgement — but if you need a little break from all those tannins, consider hiking the trails at Silver Falls State Park . If you choose to venture on the Trail of Ten Falls, you'll have the good fortune of spotting stunning waterfalls while making your way through the lush green terrain.

Pagosa Springs, Colorado

Here's another trip that caters to the girls eager to spend time together in the great outdoors. This tiny town (population 2,000) is home to deepest geothermal hot spring in the world, which you can access year round. Called the Mother Spring, this 1,000+ foot deep spring is made up of slightly acidic water with the the same salt content as the ocean and plenty of nutrients, like lithium, manganese and potassium, that are said to have major health benefits. The Springs Resort & Spa boasts 23 different soaking pools that vary in temperature, so you can venture from something piping hot to cool to piping hot again.

Craft beers are hot here in little Pagosa, so make sure you sip on something from one of the few local breweries. Great places to do this are The Backyard at Pagosa Springs , Pagosa Brewing and Riff Raff Brewing .

New Orleans, Louisiana

Don't let the fact that NOLA's the bachelorette capital of the U.S. bug you — there's a reason so many ladies have this destination high on their bucket list. You could totally model this trip after Girls' Trip, but it's by no means a requirement. For an expedition less crowded than Bourbon Street and Jackson Square, stroll the French Quarter for great glimpses at the the iconic architecture the city is known for. If you want a real taste of history, stop by the 1850 House , where you'll get a sense of what life was like in the antebellum more than 100 years ago.

You'll want to check out Bourbon Street even if it's just to gawk at the scene. For an extra sweet hurricane and a show, head into Pat O'Briens , where you won't be able to help but sing along with the dueling pianos. Bar hop, or don't, then discover some new sounds around Frenchmen Street. From quiet jazz clubs to more energetic spots with talented cover bands, you won't be disappointed. It must be said: an appetite is mandatory in New Orleans — this is a foodie's paradise. Taste the cajun cuisine (try Coop's Place ), the chargrilled oysters (try Acme Oyster House ) and the sugary sweet beignets (believe everyone — Cafe du Monde is worth the wait).

Saratoga Springs, New York

Buy a big floppy hat and prepare to make some bets: The Saratoga Racetrack is the charming city's summertime scene, where hoards of people dressed in fun, old-fashioned derby attire gather to drink, gamble and holler as magnificent horses glide through the sticky heat. When you're back in town, mosey your way up and down Broadway, the city's main street that's a window-shopper's paradise, rife with cute antique shops and specialty stores, like Saratoga Olive Oil . Here, you're encouraged to taste the many, many flavors.

Consider staying at The Downtowner , a new boutique hotel centrally located on Broadway. You'll likely spend the night somewhere on Caroline Street, where you and your pals can decide to bar hop or spend hours leisurely sipping cocktails — Hamlet & Ghost is a fun spot for just this. Don't end your trip without sitting down for a decadent brunch at Max London's (breakfast pizza, Belgian waffle, or both?) or for the famous fried chicken at Hattie's .

Carmel, California

Plan for a dressed down getaway in Carmel: As a safety precaution, the city has a ban on high heels that are over two inches in height due to the town's uneven, cracked streets (it doesn't seem like this law is strongly enforced, but take it as permission to give your feet a break!). Beyond walking the shoreline barefoot in the sand, you and your group can traipse (comfortably) along the charming streets that make up the one square mile village — some say the whole area feels like a European Disney World, minus the screaming kids and costumed staff.

Wife of U.S. soldier detained in Russia says he was having an affair, not involved in 'geopolitical intrigue'

The wife of Gordon Black, the American soldier detained on theft charges in Russia, said he traveled there because he was having an affair and was not involved in "geopolitical intrigue."

Megan Black is in the process of divorcing her husband and called on Russian authorities through a statement from her attorney, Brett Pritchard, to release him to provide comfort to their 6-year-old daughter.

She said she had no knowledge of his trip to Vladivostok in eastern Russia until an Army investigation branch official contacted her asking for information on what was at first a missing person inquiry, and only learned about the details of the trip after NBC News broke the story of his detention Monday.

"Nevertheless, Megan Black firmly believes that Mr. Black's decision to travel to Russia, while ill-advised, was motivated by entirely personal reasons involving an extra-marital affair," her lawyer said in the statement Thursday.

"It is Mrs. Black's desire that her husband obtains a prompt and fair resolution to his current legal situation and is able to secure his release back homer as soon as possible," the statement continued, adding that the situation had created "substantial distress" for the estranged couple's daughter.

The statement explained that Megan Black began divorce proceedings in July 2022. The couple were together for nine years and had known each other since 2014 and were married in Belton, Texas, north of Austin, after Black was stationed at the nearby Fort Cavazos.

The attorney's statement said Black's detention in Russia had placed the divorce proceedings, including questions over property ownership, in "limbo" in a family law court in Texas.

On Wednesday, Black's mother, Melody Jones, told NBC News that she thought her son was set up and "lured" to Russia from where he was stationed in South Korea by a woman she named as Aleksandra Vashchuk.

"They have a 6½-year-old daughter," she said. "And she misses her daddy."

Black has been charged with stealing from a Russian citizen, causing them "serious damage." He will spend at least two months in pretrial detention, a court in Vladivostok said this week.

The Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry office in Vladivostok has also said Black’s detention had nothing to do with politics or espionage.

Gavin Rossdale and Xhoana X are catching some rays in Cabo!

The Bush frontman, 58, was spotted this week on vacation, enjoying a bit of beach time with his girlfriend, who fans think resembles his ex wife Gwen Stefani .

During their latest getaway on Friday, May 10, the pair — who have been dating since 2023 and went Instagram official in March 2024 — could be seen holding hands.

Rossdale rocked a pair of black-and-red swim trunks and showed off his tattoos, while Xhoana, who is a fellow musician, could be seen in a black string bikini and a bold red lipstick.

Their outing comes two months after Rossdale and Xhoana X went public with their relationship on social media, when he uploaded a photo of the pair out to dinner. At the time, he wrote that he "finally got to have a birthday dinner with my girl @xhoana_x."

"Here’s to a year filled with magic for you 🖤," he continued.

The couple later made their red carpet debut at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in April 2024, which the Bush frontman called a "fun night in Hollywood."

Xhoana X has also met Rossdale's children — including sons Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10 — whom he shares with Stefani, the "Glycerine" singer revealed on the Amy & T.J.  podcast in March. He called his new relationship "really good" and referred to his girlfriend as "very sweet and very supportive.” 

Rossdale and Stefani wed in 2002 and announced their split in 2015 . He is also dad to daughter  Daisy Lowe , 35, with ex Pearl Lowe.

Speaking about his split from Stefani on the podcast, he said, "I feel bad for my kids, that's it. I wish I could have found a way to not have that in their lives. It wasn't fun for me to come from a broken home...it can be quite debilitating for kids...the overriding thing is you don't want to let your kids down."

Rossdale caught up with PEOPLE in May to talk about his band's upcoming Loaded: The Greatest Hits Tour, which kicks off in July.

Before celebrating the 30th anniversary of Bush's breakthrough album  Sixteen Stone later in 2024, Rossdale reflected on the response to last year's Loaded: The Greatest Hits 1994-2023 , which he called "a brilliant kind of development I hadn't expected."

"The best thing about this job is there are no rules, What it did is it galvanized the connection between a load of people somehow," Rossdale said. "It's taken us a long time to get to this point and that's just by bringing people with us, you know what I mean? It didn't just happen."

He previously told PEOPLE in November 2023 that he doesn't think he's " found the balance " with personal life moments and the rockstar life.

"My priority is my kids. I’m really focused and present and just trying to build something worthwhile [that I can] share with my family, and so I am always working,” he said. “Everything has its price."

Paul pelosi attacker david depape sentenced to 30 years, paul pelosi david depape sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Paul Pelosi 's attacker has received his sentence ... a federal judge has given David DePape 30 years for his brutal 2022 hammer attack on Nancy Pelosi 's husband.

Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley sentenced DePape to 30 years for assault and 20 years for attempted kidnapping for the incident -- the maximum sentence for the crimes. The sentences will run concurrently, so it comes out to 30 years instead of 50.

CNN reports the judge said the sentence had to reflect the serious nature of the incident.

Friday's sentencing ends a years-long saga that began on October 28, 2022 ... when Depape broke into the Pelosis San Francisco home. David claimed he just wanted to talk to Paul about Nancy interfering with the 2020 election, and he only attacked him when his plan went awry.

Pelosi later addressed the body cam footage showing him standing with DePape in the doorway, as well as discussing his 911 audio call where he doesn't explicitly say he's in danger ... explaining he worried the man might hurt him.

Of course, DD ended up hurting him anyway ... smashing his head with a hammer in an attack Nancy later called an act of violent political extremism.

A jury found DePape guilty back in October, reaching their decision after less than 24 hours of deliberation.
