About Booking This Tour
Travel Documents
If you are a U.S. citizen traveling internationally , you will need a passport valid for six months beyond the completion of your Tauck journey to enter the United Kingdom; however, you do not need a visa for the short duration of this tour.
If you are a citizen of another country traveling internationally, you should contact an embassy or consulate of the United Kingdom to determine what travel documentation is required.
Please note that longer stays abroad for any purpose may require additional travel documentation.
We recommend that you make at least two photocopies of all the travel documents that you bring with you. Include copies of the photo page of your passport that contains the date of issuance, the date of expiration and your citizenship. Secure one set of copies in the safe in your room while traveling and leave one set behind with someone at home who will assist you in the event your documents are misplaced, lost or stolen.
To facilitate Travel Requirements, destinations are increasingly utilizing online forms that require digital proof that you've successfully completed your submission (via an email, QR code, etc.) To ensure smooth travels and peace of mind, we strongly recommend all guests carry a personal smart phone and sign up for international data plans before traveling overseas.
TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN AS A GUARDIAN: If you are traveling as the guardian of a child/children, we strongly suggest that you carry a letter from both parents of the child authorizing emergency treatment in the event of illness or accident. For travel abroad, many foreign countries have specific entry requirements for children under 21 who are traveling internationally without BOTH parents. (These requirements are in response to the increased incidence of children being abducted and taken abroad.) PLEASE NOTE THAT TAUCK IS NOT RESPONSIBLE for the disruption of travel caused by improper documentation for children traveling without both parents.

Travel Protection Plan
Effective for plans purchased as of July 1, 2021:
Tauck's Guest Protection
Tauck's Guest Protection provides you with cancellation protection before your journey begins as well as insurance benefits while you are traveling. Guest Protection includes the following:
Cancellation Waiver – Provided by Tauck:
Under Tauck's Cancellation Fee Waiver you can cancel your tour for ANY REASON up to the day before departure and receive a money-back refund (except in Extreme Circumstances*) on the land tour cost, based on your original method of payment.
*Extreme Circumstances: In the event of an act of God, war (whether declared or undeclared), terrorism, accident, natural disaster, outbreak of disease, or other event or circumstance beyond our control that contributes to or results in cancellation rates above our historical cancellation rates in the absence of such event or occurrence, Tauck reserves the right to issue a credit to you in lieu of a money-back refund, applicable to a future Tauck journey.
Travel Insurance Benefits – Underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company.
- Trip Cancellation – If you must cancel your tour due to a covered reason, the plan provides coverage for the amount you paid for your travel arrangements. Since the non-insurance cancellation waiver takes care of the land package cancellation fees already, this benefit reimburses the airfare cancellation charges up to the value of your original airfare purchase.
- Trip Interruption – If you have to interrupt your tour for covered reasons, the plan provides reimbursement to catch up to your tour or return home.
- Travel Delay – Provides reimbursement for missed, prepaid travel arrangements if you are delayed by a common carrier, natural disaster, unannounced strike, or other reasons as cited in the plan.
- Medical Expense – Reimburses covered medical expenses incurred in the event you become injured or sick during your trip.
- Baggage / Personal Effects Protection – Provides reimbursement in the event your luggage or personal effects are, lost, stolen, damaged or delayed during your trip.
- Worldwide Emergency Assistance Services – Provided by Carefree Travel Assistance; 24-hour emergency telephone assistance hotline for medical and travel related problems.
The cost of Tauck's Guest Protection is: $559 per person
This protection provides insurance coverage that applies only during the covered trip. You may have coverage from other sources that provides you with similar benefits but may be subject to different restrictions depending upon your other coverages. You may wish to compare the terms of this policy with your existing life, health, home and automobile policies. If you have any questions about your current coverage, call your insurer, insurance agent or broker.
This optional Guest Protection must be requested at time of booking and fee must be included with initial payment. Fees are based on costs as of July 1, 2021, and are subject to change. Details will be provided with written confirmation of your tour reservation. Guest Protection does not protect travel agent commissions. Reimbursements will be made according to original method of payment. The amount of any refund shall be reduced by any recoveries obtained by you from any third parties.
The Guest Protection plan waives cancellation fees outlined below, provided we are notified of cancellation before your tour departs. Tour cancellation fees are waived regardless of reason, without written notice, and Tauck will refund land tour cost.
To obtain your state-specific Certificate of Insurance that contains the complete terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the certificate, visit affinitytravelcert.com/docs/TACGPPINTL .
If You Have To Cancel
If you cancel within 10 days of initial deposit Within the first 10 days after you place your initial deposit, you may cancel your reservation for any reason with no cancellation fees. If you cancel more than 10 days after initial deposit Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed bookings. These fees vary from tour to tour. Therefore, the following fees apply.
Cancellation Fees with Tauck's Guest Protection Plan:
Loss of Guest Protection fee, per person
Cancellation Fees without Tauck's Guest Protection Plan :
60 days or more before departure = $600 per person
59-8 days before departure = $900 per person
7-1 days before departure = $1500 per person
Time of cancellation will be when notice is received in our Wilton Woods, CT office.
In the event of an unforeseen circumstance beyond our control, Tauck reserves the right to amend the cancellation terms outlined herein.

Travel Requirements For This Tour
Air Information and Luggage Restrictions
AIRFARE: Airfare to and from this destination is not included in the journey cost. If purchasing your air elsewhere, it is very important to provide us with your confirmed arriving and departing flight information no later than 3 weeks before your arrival date. Flight information can be submitted to Tauck (or verified, if you've already provided it) in the My Account section of Tauck.com.
TAUCK AIRPORT TRANSFERS are included at the start and end of the journey between the airport and the Tauck hotel. Airport transfers are available for any pre tour or post tour hotel stays immediately consecutive to the tour, providing flight information is received in the Tauck office no later than three weeks in advance. Details on locating your transfer upon arrival to the tour start city will be included in your final documents.
AIRLINES and CHECKED LUGGAGE: Due to space limitations during your Tauck journey, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one average-size suitcase per person. Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and are free to revise luggage policies without notice. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies. PLEASE NOTE that if you are booked on a tour that includes on-tour flights, the checked luggage weight restrictions for these flights may be lower than the weight restrictions for your international flights.
Checked Luggage – General
Due to space restrictions, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one suitcase per person weighing no more than 50 pounds (23 kg) and with overall dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 62 inches (158 cm).
Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and luggage exceeding airline standards for size or weight may result in expensive overage fees or other consequences.
Airlines are free to revise luggage policies without notice, and certain airlines have different baggage allowances for different classes of service. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies.
Tauck luggage tags will be provided by your Tauck Director on Day 1 of your itinerary. Please do not attach a Tauck luggage tag to any carry-on items, as the Tauck tags designate luggage that is to be handled and transferred by ground operators and hotel staff during your journey.
Carry-on Luggage - General
Although oversize bags and wheeled, carry-on luggage are popular for airline travel, they are often not convenient or appropriate for motor coach travel or for many on-tour flights. Most modern sightseeing motor coaches offer limited space for numerous or larger items. Space under seats or in the overhead rack is typically small, and designed to accommodate items like coats, hats, purses, and small camera bags, etc.
For your day-to-day travel while on tour, we recommend that you limit your hand luggage to a small, soft-sided carry-on piece, and that you bring only those items you need handy during the day such as make-up, medications, cameras, film, etc. Items too large to fit under the motor coach seat or on the overhead rack must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach, and may be inaccessible during daytime travel.
Health, Safety and Mobility
HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS
While drinking water is generally safe at all our hotels, bottled water will be available wherever the local water is not fit to drink. We also provide bottled water on the motor coaches.
There is a smoking ban in public places throughout Scotland. The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa is a non-smoking property, with no 'smoking' rooms available.
Please check with your health insurance provider to determine whether you are covered while traveling. If you will not be covered under your current policy, we strongly suggest that you arrange for adequate coverage while on tour.
If you have a medical condition that might limit your participation in activities, please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice and notify us as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. We will advise your Tauck Director accordingly.
VACCINATIONS
If you are a resident of the U.S., no vaccinations are currently required for travel to the United Kingdom. For complete vaccination and inoculation information please contact your physician, the public health service in your area, or the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to obtain information regarding vaccinations that may be required for your journey. The Travelers' Health Section of the CDC operates a 24-hour "Travelers' Health Hotline" at 800-232-4636 (toll-free in the U.S.). You may also log on to the CDC website by clicking here .
If you are a resident of another country, please contact an embassy or consulate of the United Kingdom to determine what vaccination(s) may be required for your travel.
SPECIAL DIETARY REQUESTS
The restaurants, hotels, caterers and numerous other partners we work with all do their best to accommodate special dietary requests from Tauck guests. However, given the diverse nature of those food providers (from small wineries to grand hotels to world-famous restaurants in more than 70 countries worldwide), some of our partners are better able than others to accommodate such requests. We therefore cannot guarantee that all dietary requests can be accommodated at every meal. Also, please note that where dietary requests can be accommodated, choices will frequently be limited.
England, Scotland & Wales involves a considerable amount of walking. To enjoy this tour, you should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances, often over unpaved and uneven surfaces. Some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot. The amount of walking you do, however, is at your discretion. The castle visits at Edinburgh, Stirling and Caernarfon and the visit to Levens Hall & Gardens are challenging for those with difficulty walking as they have steep steps, cobblestone walkways and hillside gardens. Some walks can be extensive on flat terrain in places such as Stratford-upon-Avon.
PLEASE NOTE: We regret that this Tauck itinerary cannot accommodate wheelchairs or motorized scooters. Likewise, we regret that we're unable to provide individual assistance to guests with walking difficulties or other personal needs. The responsibility of the Tauck Director who accompanies your trip is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest. Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it.
Reading List
We have compiled a reading list of recommended books to give you more information about the destinations you will be traveling to on your upcoming journey!
You can view the reading list here.
The climate of the United Kingdom is notoriously variable and changeable from day to day. Weather is generally cool to mild with frequent cloud cover and rain, but occasional settled spells of weather occur in all seasons. As a general rule, the western side of the United Kingdom is cloudier, wetter, and milder in winter, with cooler summers than the eastern side. The eastern side of the United Kingdom is drier the year round, with a tendency for summer rain to be heavier than that of winter. You will rarely experience severe or unpleasant weather for long; however, you should be prepared for rapid changes of weather in all seasons. There is good reason for weather being a major talking point in the United Kingdom!
To read about current weather conditions, we suggest you log on to the Internet website by clicking here.
What To Pack
Bringing the right clothing for your trip is important – we've partnered with New Headings who provide an "easy-to-use, one-stop shop" for your Tauck travel needs, specifically selected for this trip. Click here to visit their site .
The weather in the United Kingdom is moderate but unpredictable. Your journey is designed with leisure in mind. Dress for comfort and convenience with a wardrobe that is adaptable and allows for layering. Generally, during the day, casual, comfortable, cotton clothing is recommended. Cool weather at higher elevations or at night will require warmer, layered clothing.
In Europe, especially in finer restaurants, it is generally customary to dress somewhat formally. Slacks or a dress for women and a jacket and tie for men are acceptable dining attire, although not required. It is advisable to avoid wearing jeans, sneakers or shorts for dinner. You may also wish to dress up a bit for the welcome reception and the farewell dinner, but by all means be comfortable.
You will find a hair dryer located in your hotel guest room. Irons and ironing boards are available upon request. Valet laundry and dry cleaning services are also available for a fee.
We recommend that you pack an adequate supply of your prescription medication in its original container to last through your entire journey, together with a copy of your doctor's prescription or a letter from your health-care provider on office stationery explaining that the medication has been prescribed for you, a list of the generic names of your medication, your travel documents and a change of clothing in your carry-on bag to avoid any inconvenience in the event that your flight or luggage is delayed.
Following is a list of recommended items to pack for your trip to The United Kingdom:
- Casual daytime wear – shorts, slacks, long and short-sleeved shirts
- An optional jacket and tie for men
- Casually elegant evening wear for ladies
- Sunglasses, sunscreen, hat
- A light sweater or jacket for higher elevations or a breezy night
- Binoculars (7x50 preferably)
- Insect repellent
- Camera, lenses, batteries, memory cards and chargers
- Lightweight, comfortable, sturdy walking shoes that have already been broken-in
- Travel alarm clock/cell phone with alarm functions (many hotels do not have clocks in the rooms)
- Rain poncho and collapsible umbrella
- Daypack for camera equipment
- Sundries and toiletries that may be difficult to find en route
- Copies of your travel documents that should be secured in the safe in your hotel room while traveling

What a fabulous tour! We saw so much of Great Britain! This tour is great! If you have never traveled to GB or traveled overseas, like us, this is the way to do it. Our tour director was so informative, organized and humorous! The bus driver was excellent and so personable. Everything was taken care of for us. No worries...just fun. Our fellow travelers were wonderful. Meals and hotels were excellent. I would definitely recommend this tour. I look forward to taking another CIE tour in the future.

Amazing Trip With A Few Hiccups Along the Way
This is my 3rd trip with CIE and there’s a reason why I keep coming back. I chose this itinerary due to the locations that we’d be going (some I’ve done with my last CIE tour and wanted to experience the city again) as well as some of the activities being offered. However once again at the airport it took me a while to find the driver from the airport to the hotel on the day of arrival. This is the second tour in the UK where this has happened and both times I’ve had to contact the company in charge of the driving company to either get a new driver and or find my driver. At this point if I do another tour starting in London I’d rather take my chances with a taxi and or the tube. Another issue was the fact that I had chose this tour due to the Day 11 activities which included the train ride from Goathland Station. It wasn’t until we arrived at our hotel on Day 10 that we were informed that we weren’t doing the train which is one of the main reasons why I had chose this specific tour. On route to Whitby we were told by our tour director that the change to the itinerary had been made in May but nobody on the tour had been made away and instead we went to Castle Howard. For the itinerary, I feel like this one should/needs to be more time in Cardiff. This was my second time there and with this tour I feel like Cardiff Castle shouldn’t be the only place that’s explored in the capital city besides the castle. In Hay-on-Wye we should have more time than an hour, seeing as some of the stores were still closed.
History, Castles, Beachside towns and the English Countryside, loved it all
So much to see and learn. It was a great to experience all the different areas of England. The history, scenery and hospitality was exceptional.
CIE took care of everything, all we needed to do was show up.
12 full days wasn't long enough have to go back and do it all again...
All location stops and attractions visited were worth it and even though the weather wasn't always the best our guide and drive made up for it with commentary and scenic drives.
How can we help you?

Destination Must-See's
A world in a city is a common way to describe the metropolis of London, the capital of England. A cultural melting pot of over 230 nationalities, London is the financial, political and cultural capital of the UK. It is booming with activity and bursting with sightseeing treasures. You’ll find historic highlights from the haunting Tower of London to the ornate Buckingham Palace and more modern attractions such as the world-famous Harrods department store and the towering London Eye.
The historic walled city of York in North Yorkshire is located in the northern part of England. Today York is still encircled by its ancient medieval walls. York was founded by the Romans in A.D. 71 and is considered to be one of the great cities of the medieval world.
Gaze upon the charming thatched-roof homes that line quaint streets of this south central area of England. The Cotswolds are roughly 25 miles across and 90 miles long, stretching from Stratford-upon-Avon to Bath. The Cotswolds run mainly though the counties of Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. The region is known for its small towns and villages, made from golden colored Costwold stone as well as lush greenery and rolling hills.
Buckingham Palace (Changing the Guard):
Queen Elizabeth's residence in London, Buckingham Palace is the ornate icing on the cake of England's capital city. Serving Britain's sovereigns since 1837, Buckingham Palace is the end point for parades and special events in the city as well as the daily Changing the Guard. Hundreds gather daily to watch the official changing of the Queen's Guards in the area outside of the palace gates and to get a glimpse of the palace itself.
Destination Must-Do's
Cardiff is the capital and the largest city in the country of Wales. Surprisingly it has only been the capital city of Wales since 1955. Two hours from London by train, Wales is the base for many national cultural and sporting institutions and is home to many of Wales’ sporting venues and sports teams. Travelers can explore its connection to the Iron Age, ancient Rome and the Norman Conquest. They’ll also fall in love with the famous Victorian shopping arcades.
Stonehenge:
Walk in the footsteps of so many before you when visiting prehistoric Stonehenge. This mysterious rock formation dates back to the Stone Age and remains one of the world’s most famous sites. Standing in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, Stonehenge is perhaps the most important prehistoric monument in England. And now, updates at the site will make it more accessible than ever! New galleries and visitor facilities will enhance the overall experience and understanding of Stonehenge for visitors of all ages and interests. Construction has started on three Neolithic houses which will be the focal point of the outdoor gallery at the new visitor center. These houses offer visitors a glimpse into the lifestyle of the people who built Stonehenge. The experience of seeing this timeless monument is not to be missed.
Standing at 315' tall, Big Ben is located in London near the Halls of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. An iconic image of London, Big Ben's clock dials are some of the largest in the world at 23' high. The current structure was built in 1858 after the previous clock tower was destroyed in a fire in the 1830s.
Lake District:
The Lake District is a mountainous region in northwest England. This region is famous for its lakes, mountains and forests. In this region hiking the mountain trails and boating on the lakes is a popular activity.
Expert Advice
Pubs are extremely common in England, and are a major part of English culture and way of life. Savor the traditional “pie and a pint” at local pubs, where the “pie” here is of the hot and hearty steak variety!
Pack your rain gear! It tends to rain in England and Wales almost every day.
Learn the lingo…yes, they speak English but many words are different such as sweater and elevator which turn into jumper and lift.

This community was named after the legend of Gelert the dog, who Prince Llywelyn left to guard his child. The prince found the dog covered in blood and assumed he had turned on the child, thus killing him. Tragically, the prince realised that Gelert had saved the child from a nearby wolf. Stricken with grief and remorse, the prince gave his heroic hound a ceremonial burial by the river, and to this day, thousands visit the cairn of stones that mark Gelert’s grave. Leave the city behind this morning as you take the train to Fort William. This is no ordinary ride, so make sure you’ve got a good view out the window – the West Highland Line has some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland. The urban landscape is quickly replaced with a windswept panorama of the untouched Highlands as the line skirts the edge of Loch Lomond and ascends from Crianlarich to Upper Tyndrum and wild Rannoch Moor. Arrive in the early afternoon with time to explore the town with your leader. Visit nearby Old Inverlochy Castle, on the banks of the river that feeds the loch. This is on the site of possibly the oldest castle in Scotland. Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the Isles, looms in the distance, and you can take a gondola to the top of one of the smaller peaks in the Nevis Range for incredible elevated views of this wild region. Enjoy a free evening to enjoy Highland hospitality and maybe try some great local produce for dinner.

Complete your journey on the West Highland Line – one of the world’s most spectacular scenic railroad lines – soaking in the scenery as the train winds along the coastline and across the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct. The viaduct is one of the best-known in Scotland as it plays a part in Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express route. The train line ends at the port town of Mallaig, and you’ll hop off the train and onto a ferry – as the Scottish song goes – over the sea to Skye. When you reach the isle – the largest island in the Inner Hebrides archipelago – you’ll take a private transfer along the winding roads past the Cuillin mountains to Portree, the capital of Skye that sits on the loch of the same name. Enjoy some free time to explore this colourful port, then join your leader in a local bar for a pre-dinner whisky tasting. You’ll get an inside insight into what makes this region the home of some of the best whisky in the world.
- Isle of Skye - Leader-led Whisky Tasting
- Glenfinnan - Railway Viaduct Crossing
Today’s train ride is on a regular passenger service operated by Scotrail, not on the steam-hauled tourist train. It travels on the same route as the Jacobite train, but you'll have the bonus of travelling the local way.
This morning, it’s time to explore the Isle of Skye, beginning with a hike around Portree Bay with your leader – there are few better ways to wake yourself up after an evening of whisky tasting than fresh sea air and mountain views. Then, take a private minibus tour around Skye – driving in a loop around the northeast coast, home to some of Skye’s most iconic landscapes. Take in the Trotternish Peninsula and then visit Dunvegan Castle – a striking 13th-century castle and gardens nestled in stunning natural surroundings on the MacLeod Estate. Learn about its history and explore the walled gardens surrounding it – maybe even stop for afternoon tea at the café, where they serve delicious cakes!
- Isle of Skye - Guided hike
- Isle of Skye: Guided private bus tour of Trotternish Peninsula
Today’s hike around Portree Bay is 3.5 km or 1 to 2 hours. If you wish to opt out of this activity your leader will be at hand with alternative suggestions. Some of this afternoon's optional activities are accessible by local bus, whereby for other private transport is required. Your leader will be able to help you organise this.
This morning, travel from Portree to the famous Loch Ness, crossing the Skye Bridge to return to the mainland. On the way, you’ll stop by the memorable sight of Eilean Donan Castle. This castle, first inhabited in the 6th century, is perched on an island where the three great sea lochs meet and is an iconic Scottish image. You’ll also stop in Fort Augustus on the shores of Loch Ness to check out the fantastic valley and head out on an included boat cruise. You’ll also see Cherry Island, Fort Augustus Abbey and, maybe if the conditions are right, the famous resident monster. Continue to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands and your base for the next two nights.
- Fort Augustus - Loch Ness Boat Cruise
Please note that today's included excursion on Loch Ness is a public cruise, and you will share the boat with other travellers.
This morning, start the day by hopping on a local bus to nearby Culloden Battlefield, located on the outskirts of Inverness. In April 1746, it was here that the last great battle on British soil was fought and Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Jacobite rebellion came to a bloody end. The battlefield is fascinating to walk around and exudes sombreness even today. Back in the city centre, take a walk alongside the River Ness. This local’s favourite weaves over some small islands in the river before crossing a graceful pedestrian suspension bridge and finishing close to a local arts centre that looks up at Inverness Castle. The rest of the day is free to explore. Maybe visit a local whisky store, catch a local gig, do some souvenir shopping or hop on a train to nearby Cairngorms National Park to explore the village of Aviemore.
- Inverness - Culloden Battlefield visit
- Inverness - River Ness walk
Today, you’ll board a local train from Kingussie to the Scottish capital of Edinburgh. You might cross the iconic Forth Bridge (not all trains take this route) – a UNESCO World Heritage-listed cantilever structure completed in 1890. Edinburgh is a medieval-like hilly city full of charm and character, with the imposing Castle guarding from above. Edinburgh is designated a UNESCO Creative City of Literature, being the birthplace and home to world-famous writers, poets and playwrights, including Arthur Conan Doyle, Walter Scott and JK Rowling. This afternoon, set off on a walking tour with an Edinburgh local. Your guide has been trained by Invisible Cities, an inspiring social enterprise that supports and trains locals who have experienced homelessness to become tour guides. See the top sights from a different angle, including the Scottish Parliament buildings, Royal Mile and Canongate Cemetery, and give back to the community. The rest of the afternoon is for your leisure – maybe stroll around the Old Town, get acquainted with the fairy-tale Dean Village or head out to portside Leith for eclectic shopping and some great restaurants. In the evening, why not get your group together for dinner and spend the night sharing stories and memories of your adventures?
- Edinburgh - Invisible Cities guided walking tour
Today's walking tour of Edinburgh is run in partnership with Invisible Cities, an NGO that trains people who have experienced homelessness to become walking tour guides in their own city. 100% of the tour net proceeds will be reinvested in developing the guides further with education or new opportunities. Money from your tour will help Invisible Cities organise high-quality training for guides, who have all experienced homelessness, and organise events for the homeless community.
With no activities planned for today, you’re free to leave any time after breakfast. If you wish to spend more time in enigmatic Edinburgh, we don’t blame you – with a history of over 10,000 years, there’s so much to see and do – just speak to your booking agent.

FA Cup replays to be scrapped from 2024-25 season
FA Cup replays will be scrapped from the first round next season as part of a six-year agreement with the Premier League to strengthen the domestic competition, the Football Association (FA) announced on Thursday.
Jonah Heim hit a two-run home run, Marcus Semien and Adolis Garcia delivered solo shots and the visiting Texas Rangers topped the Detroit Tigers 9-7 on Thursday afternoon.
Instead of counting on Jimmy Butler to lead the team into the postseason, the Miami Heat will be in full collective-effort mode when they host the Chicago Bulls on Friday night in the loser-goes-home play-in game.
Women's Lions' unions get £3m injection ahead of first tour
British insurance firm Royal London has given the rugby unions of England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland £3 million ($3.7 million) to invest in female coaches and players ahead of the British and Irish Lions women's inaugural tour.
The investment aims to ensure the Lions squad is not entirely dominated by England players, given they have won 17 of the past 25 Five or Six Nations titles and are leading this year's edition.
Royal London, Britain's largest mutual life, pensions and investment company, in 2021 launched a feasibility study into the formation of a women's British and Irish Lions team.
The team was established in January , with organisers announcing a tour that will take place in 2027. Reigning world champions New Zealand will host a three-test series.
"Supporting the growth of the women's game is a key strategic priority for The British & Irish Lions as it is for each of our constituent Unions," Ben Calveley, CEO of the British & Irish Lions, said in a statement.
"Royal London's 'Levelling the Playing Field' grant represents a significant investment into the women's game in the four Unions and will make a positive impact on women's rugby."
The four unions also provided details on how their allocation of the funding will be used.
The Rugby Football Union (RFU), England's governing body said it will use the grant to further develop its 'Player Development Groups,' while Scottish Rugby (SR) will recruit two coaches and deliver additional camps for youth teams.
The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) said it would hire five new members to strengthen their women's pathway coaching staff, while the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) will use the funds to organise additional under-18 and under-20 camps and training matches.
"The 'Levelling the Playing Field' grants we are announcing today further demonstrate our commitment to breaking down barriers and ensuring we're able to support the development of women's rugby at all levels," Royal London group Chief Marketing Officer Susie Logan said.
£3m fund aims to ensure Lions are not just England
A £3million grant will aim to ensure the first British & Irish Lions women's team are not England in all but name.
The Lions will go on an historic first tour, to New Zealand, in 2027.
But there are concerns over the potential balance of the squad given that England have won 17 of the last 25 Five or Six Nations titles.
As a result, Lions sponsors are to provide funding to try to develop players and coaches in all the home nations.
Funding will be given to Wales, Scotland and Ireland, as well as England, to try to "level the playing field".
Former England flanker Maggie Alphonsi said action was needed to make the Six Nations more competitive with the Red Roses on course for a sixth successive title after they beat Scotland 46-0 in Edinburgh last Saturday.
Wales have never won the Six Nations and are bottom of this year's table following three defeats.
The Welsh Rugby Union said the new funding from Royal London will pay for five new staff members to bolster its women's pathway coaching, including a performance coach, set-piece and skills coaches and a head of physical development.
It will also invest in programmes aimed at identifying talent across Wales as well as players outside the country who qualify to represent Wales.
WRU executive director of rugby Nigel Walker said: "This is vital and welcome funding which we will make full use of in a way which will have an immediate, direct and positive impact on our performance pathway in the women's game.
"We will focus on talent identification and growth as well as bringing in significant new, additional coaching, development and science-based support."
Scotland last won the Home Nations Championship - played between the four unions - in 1998.
The Scottish Rugby Union will recruit two coaches and aim to deliver additional camps and training matches for their women's under-18s and under-20s teams as well as the national academy.
Ireland are the only team other than England or France to win the Six Nations title - in 2013 and 2015 - though finished bottom last year.

The Irish Rugby Football Union will also host additional age-grade camps as well as working with universities to identify playing talent and developing a coaching scholarship programme.
The Rugby Football Union will use its share of the grant to further develop its current programmes, including skill work.
Lions chief executive Ben Calveley said the grant was a "significant investment" in supporting the growth of the women's game across the nations.
The tour to New Zealand will take place in September 2027. It will include three Tests against world champions the Black Ferns, though a full schedule has yet to be finalised.

Best of Britain (11 Days)
this tour exceeding our expectations, the Guide ( Jacquline Green )and Bus ( Lee ) driver went over and above to make sure every member of tour was included, comfortable and made this trip to UK even more memorable. The Guide gave us plenty of information regarding history and was extremely informative on every location we passed and stopped at. we loved the local treats supplied by the Guide as well. The bus was comfortable, the intinerary was perfect and kept us busy including as much as possible. The accommodation was excellent. I would definitely recommend this company and way of travel to others. and we would use Trafalgar again in the future.

Britain & Ireland Explorer (Classic, 13 Days)
We had a great holiday and highly recommend insight tours . We had lovely hotels and a fantastic tour guide who was very knowledgeable with places and the history.
England, Scotland & Wales
The coach bus was comfortable although I was not expecting to spend so much time riding in it (I should have known because we covered so much ground on this tour!); I would have like to have been more active. The drivers were outstanding! All of the hotels were reasonably comfortable - except one - that one was horrible! England is not a country that is noted for its food and I knew this ahead of time; I did not expect the food to be amazing and it was not but that is not a reflection on the tour. The guide was very knowledgeable, kind, and helpful.

Scotland's Shetland Islands
This was a really enjoyable and comprehensive tour of Shetland, we had an amazing tour guide and had lots of good walking. A great mix of history, sightseeing, and culture.
Bonnie Scotland with London
My husband and I very much enjoyed our tour through Scotland. The tour guide Tom was knowledgeable and kept us interested without drowning us in a myriad of dates and names of Kings and Queens. He was totally in control ensuring everyone was on the bus and at each event checking everything had been arranged and that our group was expected before he would let us off the bus. The Scottish driver Dave was excellent and we felt safe despite the narrow roads. On the down side, we wish we could have had more free time to explore in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. The guided tours of Glasgow and Edinburgh turned out to be pointing out various buildings on way to the castle or as we drove out of the cities on our way to the day's tour highlight rather than a proper city tour. The London part was disappointing with the aspect of being part of a tour. The hotel, although nice, was over 1 1/2 hours by bus away from King's Cross station. The tour director did not take the opportunity to point out the various historic sites along the way. Many key highlights were not included in the scheduled familiarization of London bus tour such as Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. Once the bus tour was over we were left to fend for ourselves. There was no concern/interest shown to ensure transportation arrangements at the end of the tour were in hand etc...a stark contrast to the Scottish part of the trip.
Isle of Skye, Loch Ness & Inverness
Our tour guide Cara was fantastic - fun and energetic and kind and caring. Tour overall was pretty good, however there were some disappointments. The Jacobite train was underwhelming and a waste of time. Would not recommend - stay on the bus. Our ferry to Skye was delayed and Tuesday was about 5 hours of waiting around and not seeing much. I felt there were some stops along the way that were really just toilet breaks rather than a worthy itinerary stop. Too much time in some places and not enough in others. Accommodation was generally good until Inverness. The Waverley Inn was horrible and should be struck off. Breakfast there was unacceptable and not to the standard of other accommodations on offer in Inverness.
What people love about England And Scotland Tours
Tom is a great guide. Would recommend the tour.
Because my original trip was cancelled by Trafalgar to rearrange a new tour was difficult I am giving a little more tolerance as the tourist industry was smashed my amended timetable cost me a lot of money The trip if your a new first trip bus tour user it’s ok far to rushed for us experienced lots 1 hour walk around s. Then bed. ie Liverpool Glasgow I won’t do another bus tour in the UK
I really enjoyed the trip
