More like this

Open all year round, Balfour Winery hosts social events throughout the year, such as its dining club music sessions, jazz evenings and yoga classes followed by food and wine tasting.

What to eat: You may want to add a sharing platter to your tour booking to enjoy alongside the wines – think local Kentish charcuterie, seafood and cheese served with olives, quince jam, flatbread and crackers. If you’re visiting during the winter months, opt for the warm winter platter of local cheeses, baked camembert, house-made chutney and warm bread. A short drive away and you’ll find Balfour-owned The Tickled Trout, serving its signature fish dishes and hearty pub classics which reflect the best of Kentish produce.

What to drink: A visit to Balfour is not complete without a taste of its flagship Balfour Brut Rosé 2018 – we’d also make a beeline for the Springfield Chardonnay 2018.

Where to stay: The Tickled Trout is part of a collection of Kentish pubs and hotels selling wines from Balfour and Jake’s Beers and Ciders. Boutique rooms are simple, cosy and inviting, with exposed beams, shabby chic décor, modern bathroom fittings and sink-into beds. Nutbourne Vineyards, West Sussex

Visit Nutbourne Vineyards , stay at Cattlestone Farm, check availability here.

Set in the West Sussex countryside, Nutbourne Vineyards has been in the Gladwin family since 1991. The family also owns a selection of restaurants in London where you'll find wines from the vineyard. Sustainability is at the core of the operation, from following biodiverse practices in the vineyard (hence wildflower meadows in amongst the vines) to efforts to reduce the carbon footprint in distribution and production.

The vineyard trail is open all year round. Pick up an illustrated map and go on a self-guided tour around the different fields to discover the different grapes grown in each area and enjoy the views across the South Downs. The Cellar Door is open to pick up a bottle at the end of your visit. Guided tours and tastings are also available.

What to eat: Nutbourne offers a range of dining experiences at the vineyard throughout the year, from picnics in the summer to burgers & bubbly evenings. For a flying visit, cheese and crackers are available from April to November. Tour the vineyard, then graze on a special cheeseboard (centred around a whole Baron Bigod brie) on the viewing platform while sipping a glass of wine. For a truly memorable experience, time your visit to coincide with the Nutbourne Vineyard supper clubs on Thursday and Saturday evenings throughout summer (from £95). Hosted by the Gladwin family, you’ll enjoy a sparkling reception before enjoying a five course meal out in the vineyard, with each course matched to a different Nutbourne vintage. Produce is locally sourced, and dishes might include South Coast sea bream served with Nutbourne tomatoes, and roasted Sussex beef from Gregory Gladwin. The menu changes each month to make the most of seasonal produce.

What to drink: The 'Nutty Blush' rosé made from Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir is a light pale pink hue, with floral notes and gentle berry acidity – ideal for summer sipping. Red wine fans will enjoy the Pinot Noir, with a portion of the wine aged in French oak to add depth. Bottles are all illustrated with Bridget Gladwin's paintings.

What to stay: Nearby Cattlestone Farm has a range of camping and glamping accommodation options to choose from. Pitch a tent in the open field or book a yurt and use the outdoor kitchen, complete with a pizza oven. You might even get to spot the goats, named Gin and Tonic. If you can, book the newly renovated luxury Sunrise shepherd's hut. It's impressively spacious and cosy inside, with a comfy king-size bed. Wake up and open the double doors on to your wrap-around deck, with an outdoor roll-top bath and chairs to enjoy the views over peaceful rolling fields. The full-size en-suite shower room and fully equipped kitchen mean there’s everything you need for a quiet, relaxing break.

Cattlestone Farm Sunrise Shepherd Hut

Tillingham, East Sussex

From £165 per night including breakfast, check availability here .

A few miles from the medieval port town of Rye in East Sussex, Tillingham is hidden away in 70 acres of hills, vineyards and woodlands, scattered with wandering pigs, cattle, sheep and chickens. It’s a serene, bucolic setting for the cutting-edge winery, hotel and dining destination. A renovated Victorian farmstead and neighbouring hop barn contain 11 bedrooms, a restaurant and bar, tasting room and shop, all replete with hip, upcycled furniture and fittings and dreamy views of the surrounding Sussex countryside.

Tillingham offers daily tours and wine tastings (by appointment only), running to around 90 minutes, at £35pp. Start in the tasting room and move through the rest of the estate, from the modern winery, to the ancient oast house hosting Tillingham’s collection of qvevri (earthenware vessels buried in the ground and used to make orange wine) through to the idyllic rolling vineyards. Our tour guide took a deep-dive into Tillingham’s biodynamic, low-intervention approach to wine-making – wine nerds and aficionados will love the level of detail. You’re also given four generous pours of different wines.

What to eat: Come for lunch, dinner or both. Set over two floors filled with vintage and revamped furniture, exposed beams, sheepskins and sprays of dried flowers and foliage, downstairs is a casual wine bar with a small plates menu and an impressive wine and cocktail list (make a beeline for the silky fig leaf martini). Upstairs houses a more formal restaurant, where new head chef Brendan Eades (formerly of Silo and the Conduit Club) has created the four-course Garden Menu that showcases Tillingham’s homegrown produce – think veg from its walled garden, meat raised in its pastures and fish caught in nearby Rye. Dishes are simply cooked and presented, yet pack in the flavour – the quality really sings. Highlights on our visit included delicate Dungeness crab with nasturtium; tender, deeply flavoured Tillingham lamb; and a luscious, perfectly set egg tart. If you’re staying over, breakfast also takes place in the restaurant and features a set menu of sourdough with whey butter and homemade jam, granola and yogurt, local charcuterie and cheese.

What to drink: Natural wine fans will love what’s on offer here. Try the delicate Col 21 with its grassy, citrussy tones, or P21 – highly gluggable, vibrant pink fizz with rhubarb and raspberry notes.

Where to stay: The estate’s old hop barn has been converted into 11 bedrooms, all equipped with midcentury furnishings and earthy jewel colours, heavenly scented diffusers, modern art, Roberts Radios, Haeckels toiletries and welcome snacks of fudge and sherry in crystal glasses. We stayed in the expansive feature double room, which comes with a freestanding tub and huge window with sweeping views of the vines and countryside.

Bolney Wine Estate , West Sussex

From £245 per night, check availability at booking.com , tour tickets at Virgin Experience Days (£133.50 for tour, tasting and lunch for 2 .

Nestled in lushly green surrounds on the edge of the South Downs, the Bolney Estate is a long-time fixture on the English wine scene – founders Janet and Rodney Pratt first bought the land in 1972 for wine-making – raking in numerous plaudits over the past five decades. It makes both still and sparkling wines from five vineyards on the site, and there's also a sleek visitor centre complete with café and shop, with plans afoot to expand these facilities next year. Bolney offers a range of vineyard tours and tastings of varying length. We tried the Sussex cheese and wine tasting, which included a tour of the winery and surrounding vineyard, and an accessible yet in-depth guided tasting of Bolney wines paired with delicious Sussex-made cheeses and charcuterie, all of which you can find in the shop (make a beeline for the superb Brighton Blue).

What to eat: The light and spacious Eighteen Acre Café (if it’s sunny and warm, nab a table on the large balcony for gorgeous panoramic vineyard views) serves up generous sharing plates that make the most of Sussex produce, much of it made just a few miles away – think tender local braised pork belly with Hispi cabbage and Bolney Lychgate red wine jus, or umami wild mushroom ragu with cured egg yolk.

What to drink: We loved the floral and elegant Bolney Bubbly as well as the passion fruit and elderflower-laced Lychgate Bacchus. English still red wines are something of a rarity but Bolney’s silky pinot noir, with delicate cherry notes, is an excellent example and well worth trying. Don’t just stop at wine, Bolney also makes its own gin and rosso vermouth.

Where to stay: Nearby in the picture-postcard village of Cuckfield, Ockenden Manor is a beautifully preserved Elizabethan manor house with rooms ranging from grand oak-panelled suites to spacious rooms with four-poster beds and roll-top baths. There’s also a plush fine-dining restaurant and an award-winning modern spa just moments away from the main building.

There are vineyards "blossoming" all across Wales, said Natasha Lovell-Smith on Great British Food Awards . And one of the most popular is Gwinllan Conwy, which has received multiple national and international awards. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Snowdonia Mountain Range, the "success" of this vineyard is "underpinned by the microclimate" of north Wales, which "pairs resemblance" to the climate of New Zealand. Thanks to its proximity to the sea, this means the vineyard "experiences mild winters allowing the vines to develop earlier". Tucked into the Welsh countryside, yet only 20 minutes from Cardiff, Llanerch Vineyard offers "a drop of romance", said Kerry Walker in The Daily Telegraph . While the vineyard itself is centred on a "whitewashed farmhouse" from 1851 and pulls off the "delicate act of combining original features", the hotel rooms are "bright and contemporary". Beyond the hotel and wine, is the "perkily turreted Neo-Gothic" Hensol Castle which is only a 15-minute walk away. But where Llanerch really "shines" is its restaurant which overlooks the vineyard and offers "great" food and "bang-on" service. You may "come for a wine tour" but you'll "stay for the imaginative locally sourced food". llanerch.co.uk

Ryedale Vineyards, North Yorkshire

Ryedale Vineyards in North Yorkshire

The most northerly vineyard in Britain, Ryedale offers more than wine – it also makes cider from the estate's orchards. Voted one of the best vineyards to visit and tour in England, it offers an "informal, humorous and informative guided tour". For those wanting to stay, Ryedale has two "cosy en suite rooms in the farmhouse", said The Guardian , and the "slap-up breakfast" is the "perfect way to start a day" exploring the surrounding North Yorkshire wolds. ryedalevineyards.co.uk

The best English vineyards to visit this summer

alt

Celebrate English Wine Week (15-23 June 2024) with wine tours and tastings in English vineyards

From crisp whites to velvety reds, hundreds of vineyards up and down England are producing award-winning wines. To celebrate some of the magnificent wines produced on our very own soil, we’ve compiled some of the best vineyards to visit across the country - all offering great tasting sessions, tours and more.

Chapel Down Vineyard

Tenterden, Kent

Wine tasting at Chapel Down vineyard

Set in the gentle hills and high hedges of Kent’s High Weald, in an Area of Outstanding Beauty, is the Chapel Down Vineyard . The 22 acres of vineyard, has the same chalky soil as Champagné, France (just 90 miles to the south) giving the wine produced here its distinct flavour.

To get a real taste of the wines produced at Chapel Down, take a behind-the-scenes tour. A guide will show you how they grow the grapes to how they transform the fruit in to delicious wine. There’s also a tutored tasting session afterward so you can really appreciate the wines.

St Martin's Vineyard

Isles of Scilly

Rows of vines at St Martin's Vineyard, Isle of Scilly

While only 28 miles west of the mainland, the Isles of Scilly feels like a different world. With no traffic jams or major shopping centres, the only noise pollution you’ll hear is the breaking waves and cawing gulls. Set on the southerly-facing slopes of St Martin, you will find St Martin Vineyard , the UK’s smallest and most southwesterly vineyard. Self-guided vineyard tours are conducted throughout the summer, giving you the chance to explore this unique vineyard.

Without a doubt, the location of this winery is what makes it so special. The clear waters and idyllic beaches surrounding the islands provide a prevailing sense of calm making St Martins a delight. The spectacular flowers, plant life, rare birds and sea views along the heathery cliff paths all add to the thrill of St Martin.

Sharpham Vineyard

Ashprington, Devon

Sharpham Vineyard, Totnes, Devon, England. Close up of crates with green grapes in vineyard.

Sharpham Vineyard has been making fine English wine for around 30 years. Located on the bank of the River Dart in Devon. Sharpham produces red and white wines, which have won awards at both a national and international level. Enjoy a guided tour of the vineyard to gain an insight into how Sharpham Wine is produced.

As well as producing English wines, Sharpham Vineyard also makes soft English cheeses using the milk from its herd of Jersey cows. Cremet, Rustic and Savour are some of the creamy delights produced in Sharpham Dairy.

Three Choirs Vineyard

Newent, Gloucestershire

Nestled deep between the Costwolds and the Forest of Dean is Three Choirs , one of England’s oldest and largest vineyards. The rolling hills and valleys of Gloucestershire provide a unique climate, which is perfect for growing grapes. Explore the beautiful vineyards on a guided tour and afterwards, enjoy a light lunch with a chef's selection board.

The Three Choirs vineyard is perfectly situated to explore the beautiful Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean. If you’re thinking of planning a short break or a romantic retreat, the vineyard has rooms and lodges overlooking the vine-clad valleys. Don’t worry about going hungry either, the vineyard also has a brasserie serving the best local produce.

Ryedale Vineyard

Ryedale Vineyard, York

The Ryedale Vineyard, North Yorkshire, England

The sunny south-facing slopes are key to producing some of England’s award-winning wines. Throughout summer Ryedale offers guided tours and tasting sessions which include a selection of wines accompanied by homemade nibbles.

Ryedale Vineyard is located only six miles from the market town of Malton, known as the food capital of Yorkshire. Malton regularly has food markets and festivals featuring the finest produce from the region. Perfect for enjoying a short break or romantic trip – taste the wine, enjoy the food and at the end of the day, settle down for a peaceful night’s sleep at Ryedale farmhouse.

Adgestone Vineyard

Isle of Wight

View across the vines at Adgestone Vineyard

It’s thought that the Romans grew vines on the Isle of Wight some 2,000 years ago. Adgestone seems to have perfected the technique now, producing red, white and rosé wines. The chalky south-facing slopes and almost frost-free climate give these wines a unique taste. Their vineyard tour offers the whole grape to glass experience, as you'll be guided around the 10-acre site and shown the whole process of turning grapes into wine.

If you’re looking to get away from the bustle of everyday life and take some time to relax, Adgestone is the ideal place to escape. Adgestone has snug double bedrooms with en-suite facilities and magnificent sea views offering a tranquil setting to relax and unwind. What could be more special than spending your evenings under the stars amongst 10 acres of vines?

Tinwood Estate Vineyard

Chichester, West Sussex

Since then they have been producing fine English sparkling wines since their first crop in 2009. Tinwood runs fun wine tasting sessions that everyone is able to enjoy, enjoy the sun and a glass of bubbles after spending the day touring the beautiful vineyards.

Tinwood isn’t only a vineyard, it also offers accommodation to its guests. Lodges at the estate offer the guests the chance to stay in cabin lodges with an authentic rustic feel. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows and private veranda overlooking the vines are the real showpieces.

Langham Wine Estate

Dorchester, Dorset

After the tour, sit down to lunch in the 19th-century milking parkour or pre-order a Vineyard Lunch picnic (you can pick between a traditional afternoon tea or a seafood-packed platter) to enjoy on a table amongst the vines or in the rustic barn area.

Camel Valley

Bodmin, Cornwall

Outdoor tables overlooking vineyard in Cornwall

Located on Cornwall’s famous Camel Trail, Camel Valley is the only vineyard in the UK to hold a royal warrant. Currently producing sparkling, rosé and white wines, this once little vineyard has scooped up a whole heap of international prizes and supplies to a handful of British supermarkets. Daily tours run throughout the week (though not at the weekends) and include tastings of their favourite creations.

If you don’t want to take a tour, you can still enjoy a glass or two of vino on the relaxed terrace that overlooks the endless Cornish countryside, or if you just can’t bear to leave, extend your visit with a stay at one of the cottages perched above the vineyards. With fantastic panoramic views and private access to the Camel Trail, the cottages are the perfect base from which to explore Cornwall’s epic landscape.

Giffords Hall Vineyard

Hartest, Suffolk

Head to the pretty village of Hartest – complete with colourful thatched houses and huge village green – to find Giffords Hall Vineyard , a vineyard that dates back to the 1970s and is planted on the sandy clay of an ancient glacial riverbed. This family-run vineyard produces a myriad of sparkling wines, award-winning rosés and fruity red pinot noirs, meaning there are plenty of wines to try.

You can opt for a private or group tours of Giffords Hall, both of which provide an insight into the history of English wine and the varieties of grapes grown there. The tour will take you through the vineyard and around the winery, showing you the various stages of production, before ending up in the tasting room where you’ll have the chance to taste three still wines and three liqueurs alongside a selection of canapés. Sounds like our cup of tea!

Denbies Wine Estate

Dorking, Surrey

The vineyard at Denbies Vineyard Hotel

With an estate spanning 627 acres, Denbies , in the Surrey Hills, is England’s largest vineyard. As well as making a range of fantastic wines, Denbies is home to a hotel, a collection of restaurants and lots of tours and experiences. Take an outdoor vineyard train tour to see the most beautiful points in the vineyard (all without getting out of your seat), or book onto the Secret Vineyard Trail to meander through vines not normally open to the public, with tasting stops along the way. The Indoor Wine Tasting Experience is also popular, as you’ll learn about the history and geology of the estate before tasting four of Denbies’ award-winning wines.

Make a day of it and accompany your tour with lunch with a view at The Gallery Restaurant, overlooking the vineyard from the winery’s third floor, or enjoy al fresco dining all year round at The Conservatory Restaurant, which serves up light lunches and delicious cream teas. Or stay overnight at Denbies Vineyard Hotel. Renovated from the original 1850s farmhouse, the 17 luxury rooms have outstanding views across the estate – a sight you wouldn’t mind waking up to every day!

Hambledon Vineyard

Hambledon, Hampshire

Wooden post and vines under blue sky

If you pop into Hambledon, you can join a tour that takes you through the historical vineyards and into the estate’s underground cellars cut directly into perfect white chalk. You’ll also get to take a sneak peek at the state-of-the-art winery (it’s the only gravity-fed winery in the UK) and see how the award-winning sparkling wines are created, from grape all the way to glass. And yes, tastings are part of the package too.

Balfour Winery

Tonbridge, Kent

Group of people walking through vineyard

Set in 400 acres of scenic Kent countryside you’ll find the Hush Heath Estate, home to Balfour Winery . Pioneers for both English traditional-method sparkling wines and English still wines, this vineyard has won many a prestigious accolade since its inception back in 2002 – including being chosen as the official English wine of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Year-round tours and tasting experiences are available here, from self-guided strolls through the vineyards, apple orchards, wildflower meadows and ancient oak woodland to expert-led tours where you’ll discover the winemaking process from grape to glass, before sitting down to try six of the vineyard’s homegrown wines. If you get a bit peckish, you can add on Kentish meat, cheese or veggie platters to your tasting, or if you want to push the boat out further, attend one of the vineyard’s many foodie events including the Balfour Dining Club, a series of four-course dinners created by the estate’s head chef and paired with Balfour wines.

10 of the best vineyards to visit in Britain

We'll raise a glass to that

Surrey vineyard

There a number of beautiful vineyards across the UK making award-winning wine. Here are the best vineyards to visit and raise a glass to.

Acres of acid green vines, snaking over undulating slopes as they grow heavy with ripe fruits are a common sight in Tuscany but less so in the UK. But British wine has come a long way in recent years, winning numerous international accolades and tempting even the most discerning of drinkers. If you don't believe us, visit one of these wonderful UK vineyards and see for yourself.

Langham, Dorset

Agriculture, Cash crop, Crop, Plantation, Field, Vineyard, Plant, Farm, Tree, Hill station,

In deepest Hardy country, this vineyard takes a ‘low-intervention’ approach to grape growing – striving to minimise environmental impact while producing crisp quality bubbles, that are even vegan friendly. The hand-picked grapes are processed on site using an amalgamation of old and new methods, which visitors are talked through on the two hour long guided tours. Plus, visitors can enjoy lunches and afternoon teas, prepared in the 19th century milking parlour, the perfect place to grab a bite to eat after a few hours ambling among the vines. For those who prefer a more hands on experience, don’t miss the opportunity to join in picking the grapes, loading the press and meeting the team, during the autumn Harvest Experiences, which include lunch and a refreshing glass of fizz, as a reward for your hard work.

Giffords Hall, Suffolk

Bottle, Drink, Alcoholic beverage, Alcohol, Liqueur, Glass bottle, Wine, Distilled beverage, Product, Wine bottle,

Coates & Seely, Hampshire

Drink, Champagne, Alcoholic beverage, Wine, Bottle, Sparkling wine, Glass bottle, Alcohol, Liqueur, Distilled beverage,

Crafted in small batches using traditional techniques, this winery, owned by two friends, takes full advantage of the English chalk terroir on which it sits – creating bubbles which have been served at Kensington Palace. Described as ‘fabulously elegant and refined’ by the judges of the 2017 English Wine Awards, it's no surprise Coates & Seely supply some of the most prestigious events across the UK.

Sharpham Wine and Cheese, Devon

Stemware, Glass, Drink, Wine glass, Champagne stemware, Alcoholic beverage, Wine, Alcohol, Drinkware, Red wine,

Offering tastings and tours of their irresistible wines and cheeses (a dreamy combination) this award-winning vineyard uses both New World and traditional techniques that best enhance their unique regional characteristics. Specialising in Brut and Rosé sparkling wine, the team use traditional Champagne varieties and methods. Available for next day delivery, this Herefordshire based wine is certainly the answer if you're craving a fabulously British glass of bubbly. Each bottle bears the ‘Chinn-Chinn’ motif, a play on the Chinn family name, which had clearly destined them for success in the winemaking business.

Greyfriars, Surrey

Natural landscape, Nature, Nature reserve, Atmospheric phenomenon, Grass, Tree, Morning, Natural environment, Land lot, Leaf,

Rathfinny Tasting Room balcony

10 of the UK’s best vineyard and distillery stays

Rooms with a brew: vineyards, breweries and distilleries where you can raise a glass and spend the night in a hotel or cottage

Rathfinny, East Sussex

In the new wine heartlands of the South Downs, this 600-acre estate was started in 2010 and the first vintage of its Sussex sparkling wine arrived in 2018. With a tasting room and restaurant, staying here is a Napa Valley-style experience. There are also 10 en-suite rooms in the restored flint barns, including some with bunks, and prices are reasonable. A posh hostel vibe is at play here, with high thread counts and packed lunches, plus another – more casual – restaurant at the weekend, serving set meals. Doubles from £100 , rathfinnyestate.com

Raasay, Kyle

Steel drums: Raasay opened its first (legal) distillery in 2017

Waiting for a malt whisky to mature involves patience. Reached by a 25-minute ferry from the Isle of Skye, the Hebridean island of Raasay (population 161) opened its first legal distillery in 2017 and the first casks will reach maturation this year. The whisky uses barley grown on the island, and the water comes from a well that dates back to Celtic times. In the meantime, a Victorian villa has been converted into a six-bedroom hotel for the faithful. Guests can try the distillery’s gin, which requires less patience and is already available, made from juniper picked on Raasay, citrus fruits and rhubarb. Doubles from £105 B&B, raasaydistillery.com

The Swan, Southwold, Suffolk

Ccreate your own gin: the Swan, Southwold.

As an ale house, the site of the Swan predates the Adnams brewery by about 200 years, but the two have been in partnership since 1872. Style-wise, it may fit into this moneyed part of Suffolk with ease – there are plenty of velvet sofas in jewel colours and artfully scorched mackerel on offer within its generous Georgian proportions – but it’s not too sanitised. The Swan still backs on to the brewery, but the neighbouring buildings also house Southwold’s distillery, with spirits and liqueurs, including whisky and vodka. As well as standard tours, visitors can choose botanicals to create their own gin. Doubles from £200 B&B, theswansouthwold.co.uk

Ardbeg, Islay

Some of the finest whiskies in the world are produced on the Hebridean island of Islay.

With eight distilleries, producing some of the finest whiskies in the world, the Hebridean island of Islay is a place of pilgrimage for whisky lovers. On the south coast, the whitewashed, low-slung Ardbeg, famous for its 10-year-old single malt, was founded in 1815. Now owned by luxury behemoth LVMH, its guest accommodation is refreshingly low-key. Seaview Cottage is housed in the middle of the distillery grounds and has three bedrooms, all en suite, decorated with local furnishings and walker-friendly extras such as a drying room. Tours start at £8, with a dram at the end. There’s also a small café. From £220 a night (for up to six people) self-catering , ardbeg.com

Llanerch Vineyards, Vale of Glamorgan

Winning blends: the Llanerch Vineyards.

A former dairy farm in Hensol which started a trial-and-error form of viniculture in the 1970s, Llanerch has evolved to grow a core variety of grapes, including orion, perle, bacchus, huxelrebe, reichensteiner and the red triomphe d’Alsace. The estate produces its wine with input from the acclaimed Three Choirs vineyard in Gloucestershire and has created the award-winning ortega and rosé blends. The evolution continues with a 37-bedroom hotel and a restaurant; tours run from April to October and cost £14pp. Doubles from £ 75 B&B (some rooms are accessible) , llanerch.co.uk

In the Welsh Wind, Cardigan

Wunderful: Cardigan’s own gin specialists, In the Welsh Wind

This distillery, opened in 2018 by Alex Jungmayr and Ellen Wakelam, specialises in bespoke blends of gin. Once a blend has been devised, there’s a mobile still here that can be taken to weddings and other celebrations. Tastings start at £25pp; bespoke gin-making sessions cost £145 for two people. Its one-bedroom Distiller’s Cottage overlooking Cardigan Bay is popular with couples – many stay here to devise their own gin before a wedding. Cottage from £100 self-catering, inthewelshwind.co.uk

Gin Distillery, west London

New life in an old boozer: the Gin Distillery

Opened in 2017, this is a working gin distillery in what was once a notorious Notting Hill boozer. There are three mid-century rooms, a bar and restaurant, and the hotel produces its own Portobello Gin from a copper still on site – ingredients include citrus, juniper, Indonesian-sourced nutmeg and orris from Italy. Think you can do better? There’s a Ginstitute on site, where guests can create their own gin using a blend of botanicals. Doubles from £150 , the-distillery.london

BrewDog, Aberdeen

Tap dancing: the industrial bar at Aberdeen’s new Brew Dog

BrewDog, which started in 2007, has just opened its first hotel in the company’s hometown of Aberdeen. The Kennels is aimed at weaning millennials away from Airbnb; all rooms have food delivery from the bar downstairs and bedrooms with their own beer-filled fridge. While there’s no brewery on site, the company’s main production area at Ellon is a 25-minute drive away – a 90-minute tour costs £15 including tastings. Doubles from £75 , brewdog.com

Polgoon, Cornwall

Soft drinks are served here: Polgoon, Cornwall.

Ortega is a three-bedroom cottage in the middle of the vineyards and orchards that make up the 23-acre Polgoon estate. Started by local couple Kim and John Coulson in 2006, a variety of different thirsts are catered for here, including soft drinks. Sparkling wines are especially strong, with a single estate seyval, an elderflower wine and a raspberry aval – the latter named after the Cornish for apple and served by Marcus Wareing at the Gilbert Scott restaurant. Its ciders, perry and scrumpies have been garlanded with awards and the 2019 sauvignon blanc harvest promises to be a stonker. Everything produced is certified vegan, and the setting, just outside Penzance, is superb. From £600 a week self-catering, sleeps six , polgoon.com

Pied Bull, Chester

As old as time: established in 1535, the Pied Bull, Chester.

The only microbrewery in the centre of Chester is in a building that dates back to the 11th century, and has been licensed since 1535. Located underneath the Pied Bull’s bar, the Camra-awarded microbrewery offers tours on Thursdays, Fridays and at weekends, with a range of bitters and IPAs to sample. There are 31 rooms carved out of the former coaching inn, some with Jacobean panelling, others in former brewers’ cottages. Doubles from £79, piedbull.co.uk

The best vineyards with rooms in the UK

By Rebecca Cope

Llanerch Vineyard

Llanerch Vineyard

Set within 10 acres of woodland and lakes in the South Wales countryside just north of Cardiff, Llanerch Vineyard was the first of its kind here, built in 1851. The original white-washed farmhouse, with its exposed beams and wine-related décor (think vine-entwined wallpapers), still stands, and there are also 37 newly-designed rooms for anyone who wants to spend the night after a day on the grapes. There are subtle nods to the hotel’s Welsh heritage – with artwork by local photographer Andy Stoyle and Pembrokeshire wool furnishings – as well as an excellent restaurant with locally-sourced dishes and delicacies like laver bread. The best bit? It’s dog-friendly, too, so you can bring your Labrador and go for a walk to clear your head the next day. Visit llanerch.co.uk for more information

Tinwood Wine Estate

Tinwood Wine Estate

Tinwood Wine Estates capitalised on its uniquely picturesque location at the foot of the South Downs National Park by adding on a trio of luxury lodges for guests to stay in either before or after their tour: offering the perfect vantage point to watch the sun set over the vines. The wooden lodges may not look much from the outside, but inside, they are the last word in luxury, with an extra-large king-sized bed, a two-person Jacuzzi bathtub, walk-in shower, barrel sauna and a fully-stocked wine-fridge. What’s more, there are also handy mountain bikes provided – two for each lodge – so you can zip around the area as you please. Visit tinwoodestate.com for more information

Rathfinny Wine Estate

Rathfinny Wine Estate

Boasting an unbeatable location for sparkling wine thanks to its south-facing slope, chalk soils and proximity to the sea, Rathfinny Wine Estate has swiftly risen to become one of the most popular English fizz producers in the country. Its lush 600 acres is home not only to countless vines, but also its Flint Barns, which grant visitors a luxurious place to stay after a hard day’s tasting. Think cosy fireplaces, stone walls, colourful throws and wooden floors, not to mention French windows overlooking the estate. The estate is also home to a highly esteemed restaurant, The Tasting Room, with Rathfinny offering packages where you can book dinner, a tour and an overnight stay. Very spoiling indeed. Visit rathfinnyestate.com for more information

Denbies Wine Estate

Denbies Wine Estate

It’s the largest vineyard in the UK, producing award-winning sparkling, rosé and dessert wines, and very happily, you can also spend the night here after indulging in all three. This summer, the winery has opened a new hotel, replacing the small bed and breakfast that was here previously, with 17 rooms overlooking the 265-acre estate. Naturally, there will be nods to the business throughout, with barrel-crafted furniture, wrought-iron vine gates and grape-motifs galore. Even more fun is the Enomatic wine dispensing machine, which you will be able to use to taste all the Denbies wines using just your room key. Chin chin! Visit denbies.co.uk for more information

Smith and Evans

The White Lias Limestone Ridge of Higher Plot Farm has been recognized as a special place to grow fruit for at least 300 years, when terracing was built to grow cider, but since 2010 Smith and Evans have been utilising the free-draining Calcerous Limestone soil to produce Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier wines. There’s a reverse level barn conversion on site, allowing one lucky group the chance to make the estate their base for a longer break in the beautiful Somerset Levels. Mersea Island

Mersea Island

A short trip from London, Mersea Island in Essex is perhaps best known for its oysters and pretty pastel-coloured beach huts, but it's also got a vineyard. The compact site also offers rooms, as well as two self-catering cottages for bigger groups, with access to Maria's Vintage Tearoom being an additional perk. The top UK vineyards with rooms

The country’s wineries are booming. for english wine week (17-25), we pick the best of the bunch.

Denbies Wine Estate, Surrey

1. Denbies Wine Estate, Surrey

Tucked among the Surrey Hills near Dorking and Box Hill, Denbies is quite the local landmark, frequently hosting fairs, festivals and even Parkrun events on its 627 idyllic acres. With so many activities on offer it’s almost like a winey leisure centre — choose indoor tastings or vineyard tours by land train, cheesemaking, bubbly brunches or fine dining, along with walks among the reichensteiner and bacchus vines. Accommodation is swish, in the stylishly converted mid-19th-century farmhouse that is now the Denbies Vineyard Hotel. Details Tours from £10pp; B&B doubles from £170 (denbies.co.uk)

Oxney Organic Estate, East Sussex

2. Oxney Organic Estate, East Sussex

Quietly making delectable chardonnays and fizz near Rye, Oxney claims to be the largest single-estate producer of English organic wine, with about 20 per cent of organic grapes grown in the UK coming from its 35 tree-lined acres. Tours run every Saturday and there’s no need to hold back on top-ups — you can sleep it off here in a shepherds’ hut, farmhouse cottage or in a converted barn. Details Tours and picnics £25pp; two nights’ self-catering for two in a shepherd’s hut from £200 (oxneyestate.com)

Tillingham, East Sussex

3. Tillingham, East Sussex

The modern Tillingham estate has a chilled, next-gen approach: not only do its wines — such as the candy-pink Rosé and Qvevri White — come with slick, graphic labels, but the bar, shop and restaurant look more suited to some cool city quarter than the middle of the countryside. The open-sided Dutch barn — all black paint and corrugated ceilings — serves wood-fired pizza, there are tastings and tours that are super laid-back, and you can stay in one of the 11 neutral-toned rooms in the old hop barn. Details Tours £35pp; B&B doubles from £175 (tillingham.com)

Balfour Winery, Kent

4. Balfour Winery, Kent

Balfour’s reputation surged from a hit brut rosé in 2004. The pink fizz remains its flagship, accompanied by pinot noirs and chardonnays, placing it firmly on the English oenophile’s map — as well as sparkling ciders. Its Hush Heath Estate vineyard, near Staplehurst, has nature trails through ancient oak woodland, but no accommodation; instead, ten minutes’ drive away is the Goudhurst Inn, one of Balfour’s ten pubs, where elegant white and grey rooms soothe spinning heads. Details Tours from £45pp (balfourwinery.com); B&B doubles from £109 (thegoudhurstinn.com)

Chet Valley Vineyard, Norfolk

5. Chet Valley Vineyard, Norfolk

Small-scale, sensitively managed and family run, the Chet Valley ethos is artisan all the way. Champagne varieties and Germanic crosses go into fruit-forward rosés and aromatic whites, and there’s even a sparkling red to challenge tradition. Learn about vine-to-glass production on tours led by the chief winemaker, book vineyard picnics featuring Norfolk cheese and a bottle or two, then stay over in the estate’s modern Vine House cottage. Details Tours £30pp; picnic £85 for two; two nights’ self-catering for six from £380 (chetvineyard.co.uk)

Toppesfield Vineyard, Essex

6. Toppesfield Vineyard, Essex

In Roman times the valley surrounding Toppesfield Vineyard was heavily planted with vines; the remains of a Roman centurion — complete with wine vase and cup — were unearthed in the fertile fields here, since replanted by Jane and Peter Moore to establish the vineyard in 2012. Visitors must book the sleek Scandi villa-style holiday house for vineyard access, including tastings and tours. If you do, it offers a lifestyle akin to that of the celebrity winemakers Cliff Richard and Kylie Minogue — gazing across the vines from the nickel bar, sipping bubbles in the hot tub or playing tennis on the private court (not necessarily in that order). Details Two nights’ self-catering for four from £1,029 (toppesfieldvineyard.co.uk)

Holmfirth Vineyard, West Yorkshire

7. Holmfirth Vineyard, West Yorkshire

Whether Yorkshire wine can cut it on the global market remains to be seen, but for northern-based connoisseurs who don’t want to travel to the south of England — never mind Alsace or Provence — to gen up on viticulture, a tour and tasting at Holmfirth Vineyard should hit the spot. Situated in the folds of the rolling Holme Valley, the estate has seven airy apartments in a low-impact building powered by wind turbine, with views across the Peak District . Details Tours £12.50pp; room-only doubles from £125 (holmfirthvineyard.com)

Sparkling day for the vineyards of Sussex

11 of the most idyllic vineyards to visit in the UK

By Charlotte McCaughan-Hawes

The UK, especially southern England, is rapidly becoming one of the world's new wine destinations, especially for sparkling wine . With small producers dominating the fledgling business, many vineyards have also opened themselves up to tourism, making it easy to visit to take a tour of the vines, try the winery's best vintages, and buy a few bottles. Increasingly, vineyards are also taking advantage of their scenic locations (often on the south coast) to encourage visitors to stay for the day, or even longer, by offering food and rooms to stay in. For even the casual oenophile, this makes a great day out or weekend break. We've put together a few of our favourites so you can make them a destination this year.

Image may contain: Drink, Alcohol, Beverage, Bottle, Wine, Liquor, and Beer

Ask anyone about vineyards with rooms in the UK and Tillingham is always the first place mentioned. The biodynamic winery near Rye – run by Ben Walgate – not only hosts vines that produce some of this country's most sought-after, cult wines but also hosts guests for overnight stays in a clutch of stylish rooms, with food taken care of via the popular restaurant. Natural wines, eleven pared-back and comfortable rooms in a former hop barn and wood-fired pizzas and seasonal British cooking, all in touching distance of the Kentish coast – you can't ask for much more.

  • Accommodation: 11 double rooms (two of them dog-friendly) plus two Bell Tents in the grounds (the latter bookable May-September). No children under 10 allowed.
  • Food: Tillingham has a wine bar, pizza barn and a restaurant which focuses on seasonal tasting menus for lunch and dinner. All are open Wednesday-Sunday. Book the restaurant in advance.
  • Tours and tastings: Public tours are available three times a day on days that the winery is open, at £35 per person. For larger groups, private tours can be booked at £40 per person. On Fridays and Sundays you can also book a ‘Tour & Lunch’ package for £70. Make sure you book in advance.

Conveniently situated not far from London in the green Surrey landscape, Denbies is ideally set up for a day out, with four restaurants and a rolling programme of tours and tastings. It's a large commercial operation, with its vines representing 10% of all that are planted in the UK at the moment. Indoor tastings come complete with a cinema experience, and there is a train to take groups around the huge vineyards. If you want to get a sense of the scale of a large winery in beautiful surroundings, this is the place to come.

  • Accommodation: Denbies Vineyard Hotel in the midst of the vines offers 17 ensuite rooms, and there are an additional seven rooms in the neighbouring Farmhouse. Dog-friendly rooms are available.
  • Food: The Gallery Restaurant is open for lunch, while the Vineyard Restaurant & Wine Library offer dinner. In the warmer months, you can get takeaway food at The Hatch on the Lawn, or pop into the airy Conservatory glasshouse restaurant for a casual lunch.
  • Tours and tastings: Tours are available daily of both the indoor elements of the wine production and the vineyards themselves, starting from £15 per person. You can also buy packages that include lunch, afternoon tea or dinner.

Ashling Park

An easy 90-minute train ride from London to Chichester (and a short taxi ride) gets you to Ashling Park Estate, a 50-acre vineyard in the South Downs framed by 200-year-old oak trees. The Gardner family who’ve owned the land for over twenty years brought in ex-Nyetimber winemaker Dermot Sugrue to help produce their award winning still and sparkling wines. The estate uses chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier, the grapes used in champagne, for their sparkling wine and Regent, Rondo and Bacchus grapes are also grown and used for making still.  If you’re planning to make a day of it, find idyllic villages with thatched-roof cottages and cosy pubs right next door, or the dunes and beaches of West Wittering are a twenty minute drive away.

  • Accommodation: There are five one or two bedroom lodges designed by Amazing Spaces designer William Hardie, all made from wood sourced from the South Downs National Park nearby. Opt for the Veraison lodge for additional accessibility features.
  • Food: The onsite restaurant is well worth a visit and is open for lunch and dinner. Book the second-floor terrace for stunning vineyard views.
  • Tours and tastings: Public tours are available twice a day between Thursday to Sunday at an affordable £25 per person. Pick between 10:30am or 2pm.

The winery offers tours and tastings, afternoon tea, and is about to open a brand new restaurant.

Rathfinny Estate

Nestling in a patch of the South Downs between Eastbourne and Brighton, the village of Alfriston in Sussex is fast becoming a hot destination. You can book a stay at Olga Polizzi's The Star, but the wine estate at Rathfinny also offers accommodation for visitors to the area, and enjoy some seriously fine dining while you're at it. Rathfinny's sun-soaked vines produce some of England's top sparkling wines, thanks to their sunny position and chalk soil. There is a range of options for eating at Rathfinny and the flint barns where the rooms are located are really rather stylish, all limewashed walls and pared-back decoration.

  • Accommodation: The Flint Barns include 10 double rooms, bookable year round, with meals in the Dining Room.
  • Food: The Tasting Room restaurant offers high-end dining basked on tasting menus, but you can also visit the more relaxed Dining Room in the Flint Barns for evening meals. During October the winery runs a harvest marquee during the winter and offers al fresco meals in the summer. There is also a casual option, The Hut, open every day for walk-ins.
  • Tours and tastings: In winter (November - April) you can book 1h45 tours every weekend for £27.50 per person, and tastings at the same price. There are also drop-in tastings at The Hut.

Three Choirs

Heading a bit further north out of the Kent-Sussex heartlands of English wine country, Gloucestershire-based winery Three Choirs offers sparkling wine as well as still whites, rosés and reds from its beautiful location near the Wye Valley. You can drink, dine and stay at Three Choirs, and we sense that once you arrive you'll be reluctant to leave. The winery offers rooms, but also lodges tucked amongst the grapes with views across the wine-producing vines as far as the eye can see. After a day tasting their 13 wines, made from the 12 grapes grown in the vineyard, there's nowhere more peaceful to retreat to for a while, before heading to the brasserie for a tapas-style sharing dinner and of course, more Three Choirs wine.

  • Accommodation: Wood-framed, glass-walled lodges for two with verandas and freestanding baths among the vines, or cosy double rooms in a more central building overlooking the plantation.
  • Food: Three Choirs has a stylish brasserie offering lunch and dinner, with a focus on small sharing plates. Booking is essential.
  • Tours and tastings: A self-guided vineyard tour and tasting of five wines can be booked year round at weekends for £20 per person.

This Sussex winery flies a little further under the radar than some of its neighbours, but its wines, which include sparkling, white and rosé bottlings, have won multiple awards, and it also produces gin, vermouth and brandy. It's a marvellous place to visit, with a wine bar and tasting room open Thursday-Saturday and vineyard tours on selected dates. There are also plenty of seasonal events (like Good Friday fish and chips) to mark in your diary.

  • Food: Small plates are on offer at the wine bar, or check the calendar for occasional events.

Nick and Kirsty Goring's family has occupied this land in West Sussex since the 18th century, but the latest generations only began planting vines in 2006. The winery has been a huge success, and now produces white and rosé sparkling wines as well as a pinot noir. Sustainability and stewardship of the land is a key focus here, and the estate offers nature tours as well as the usual tours and tastings. There is also an excellent restaurant, Chalk, with a local, seasonal menu that regularly changes, if you want to make a day of it.

  • Accommodation: None, but The Pig in the South Downs is a short drive away.
  • Food: The Chalk restaurant is open Wednesday to Sunday for breakfast and lunch, with dinner on Friday and Saturday.
  • Tours and tastings: The standard tour and tasting can be booked at £25, but there are also bike tours, landscape tours, and a tour that includes sundowners and dinner at Chalk for £100.

Rathfinny Wine Estate

Tillingham, East Sussex

A farm dating back to the 13th century, Tillingham is surrounded by 70 acres of rolling hills and woodlands with far-reaching views towards Rye and the Romney salt marshes beyond. Ben Walgate’s biodynamic winery is relatively new – the vines he planted gave their first crop in 2020 to produce a variety of wines, including a pinot blanc, pinot noir and chardonnay, as well as a sparkling. Wine tours and tastings run daily and are available by appointment. The lovely accommodation consists of 11 pared-back but stylish rooms in what used to be a hop barn. The wine bar, with its wood-fired pizza oven, is open for lunch, and bar snacks are always available with a glass of wine. For dinner, the chef’s à la carte menu showcases simply cooked ingredients, grown on the farm or sourced from local producers.

Rathfinny Wine Estate, East Sussex

Family owned Rathfinny was established in 2010 and produces one of England’s top sparkling wines. Close to picture-postcard Alfriston in the South Downs, the vineyards occupy a south-facing slope, just three miles from the sea, where the climate, chalk soil and aspect come together to produce award-winning sparklers. Book a tour of the estate to learn how a typical year of growing vines and wine production progresses, as well as taste the wines. Enjoy fine dining in the chic Tasting Room restaurant or opt for something a little cosier and more relaxed in the Flint Barns dining room. On the the western side of the estate, barns have been beautifully restored with contemporary furnishings and house ten lovely en-suite bedrooms.

Denbies Wine Estate, Surrey

One of the UK’s largest producers, the Denbies estate was founded by Sir Adrian White in 1984. Today, it is still run by the White family and has been developed to include a hotel, two restaurants and gift shop. You can book tours of the winery and vineyard, as well as themed dinners with wine tastings. The original farmhouse B&B, built in the 1850s, has recently been transformed and an adjacent wing added to create a chic hotel with 17 contemporary en-suite rooms and a restaurant.

Llanerch Vineyard, Glamorgan

Close to Cardiff, but in the deep countryside, Llanerch is the oldest vineyard in Wales. Renowned for its Cariad wine (unique to the area), it does tours and tastings throughout the year. Follow yours with lunch, afternoon tea or dinner in the restaurant, which serves seasonal dishes made from the best local ingredients. The 26 stylish rooms and suites are divided between a new building – from which you’ll get uninterrupted views of the vines and surrounding fields and hills – and the original farmhouse from where the rooms look out over the Italian-themed courtyard. A couple of the rooms are dog friendly.

Three Choirs, Gloucestershire

Deep in the Cotswolds, this is one of the oldest vineyards in the UK. The first vines were planted in 1973 on half an acre of land to see how they would grow. Today, they stretch across 75 acres. Visitors can enjoy a self-guided walking route or book in for a guided tour and tasting of five still and sparkling wines. For lunch or dinner, the Brasserie serves tapas-inspired dishes to complement the wines. You can spend the night in one of the lodges tucked away further down in the valley – they have floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides with views overlooking tranquil, willow tree-fringed ponds surrounded by vines. Or there are cosy bedrooms next to the restaurant – these have south-facing patios and wonderful views too.

Oxney Organic Estate, East Sussex

Close to Rye, Oxney’s 35 acres of vines produce around 20% of all organic grapes grown in the UK. They are used to make still and sparkling wines in a converted Grade II-listed square oast house. Tours are held on Saturdays from May to September and you’re guaranteed to get an enlightening intro to the English organic wine revolution – a member of the team will take you round the vineyard and the winery, talking you through the perils of growing grapes in a cooler climate and the organic methods they use to overcome them. At the end, you’ll sample four wines. If you want to stay on, you’ve got options: a spacious converted barn, the historic Vineyard House or a cosy shepherd’s hut.

Chiltern Valley Winery & Brewery, Oxfordshire

This is one of the most charming vineyards in the UK. Just over an hour from London, near Henley-on-Thames, the vineyard sits on the Chiltern Hills, surrounded by a vast woodland and Hambleden Valley, where the climate is ideal for growing grapes. Head here for a two-hour behind-the-scenes tour on which you can try wines, ales and liqueurs. For an overnight stay, you can choose from rooms at the B&B with views of the vineyard, orchard, gardens or the 17th-century barn.

Tinwood Estate, West Sussex

Tinwood is near Chichester, in the heart of West Sussex at the foot of the South Downs National Park. Since first planting in 2007, it has established a reputation for producing some excellent sparkling wines, both white and rosé. On a tour, you’ll visit the vineyard and enjoy a tasting that includes three glasses. You can then stick around to order another glass, or bottle, as well as cheese and nibbles. Stay in one of three luxe wooden lodges that take advantage of the lovely views over the vines towards the setting sun. There’s no restaurant here, but there are a few very good pubs close by.

Ryedale Vineyards, North Yorkshire

Ryedale is one of the most northerly commercial vineyards in the UK. A family run business at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds, it’s a few miles from the town of Malton and close to York and Castle Howard. In addition to red, white, rosé and sparkling wines, Ryedale produces cider from the estate’s orchards. Tours and tastings in groups of around 20 are available from April to October – one of the two wine makers will guide you around the vines. There are two cosy en-suite rooms in the farmhouse and you’ll be treated to a full Yorkshire breakfast in the morning. There are two good pubs nearby and, as Malton is the ‘food capital’ of North Yorkshire, lots of good places to eat.

Castlewood Vineyard, Devon

On the Devon-Dorset border in the village of Musbury, the Corbett family have transformed a south-facing hillside on their farm into a thriving vineyard that produces an excellent sparkling wine. By appointment, you can book a private tour and tasting for groups of six or more with the owner – he’ll walk you through the vineyards and tell you all about growing grapes in east Devon, while enjoying breathtaking views across the Axe Valley to the sea in the distance. There are two traditional Grade II-listed stone cottages that date from the 18th century that sleep six. Set in spacious gardens, both are packed with character and retain many original features like inglenook fireplaces, beamed ceilings and window seats.

Jabajak, Carmarthenshire

Once a droving farm, Jabajak’s seven acres of grounds are in a quiet spot on the edge of west Wales’s Bluestone mountains. They produced their first harvest in 2014 and there are now daily tastings of the white and sparkling rosé, along with self-guided tours of the vineyard. Converted from the drovers’ old stone buildings, the restaurant serves dishes using ingredients from the estate’s kitchen garden and local producers. Book the Nook and enjoy a private table for two on a balcony in the eaves. There are eight en-suite rooms, all different in style – we love the Grainstore Suite, a truly romantic hideaway in the eaves.

I had a brilliant day with Wine Tours of Kent! Although I live locally there was so much I didn’t know about vineyards in Kent (including how beautiful they are!) and so I really enjoyed the day! The trip was really well organised and a great, socialable way to learn about the local wine as well as taste it!! I would 100% recommend this tour company and I will be booking again

TripAdvisor

We had a wonderful day with Wine Tours of Kent. We didn't know much about wine before the tour but now feel so much more knowledgeable and can't wait to book another tour. The vineyards are fascinating and our tour guide Abi took us to a local pub for lunch which was also delicious - and well needed after all the wine we sampled at Chapel down! I would highly recommend this Wine Tours of Kent if you are looking for an interesting and unique way to explore Kent!
