Share this journey with a friend..., paris to frankfurt by train.

What won't be obvious when looking up the train journey from Paris to Frankfurt (Main) is that the trains between the two cities take two different routes. But it makes little difference to the journey times or ticket prices. The route via Kaiserslautern involves travelling through valleys in a forest to the east of the city, but aside from that it isn't more scenic than the route via Strasbourg. The route via Strasbourg is longer in terms of distance travelled, but the train travels further on the high speed line.

What gives this journey its wow factor is the speed, the trains will travel at more than 300 km/h on the fastest high speed line in France.

Other Ticket Providers

DB is the national railway operator in Germany, so its website can be used for booking journeys by German express trains; the ICE and IC trains and it doesn't charge booking fees. It also sells tickets for journeys by direct trains on all international routes from Germany regardless of whether DB is operating the train service.

It also sells an extensive range of end-to-end journeys which involve making connections both within Germany and in neighboring countries, but journeys between Germany and Britain cannot be booked on DB.

On journeys within Germany and on most international journeys from and to Germany on trains operated by DB:

 • For journeys by the express trains, EC. IC and ICE trains an adult (on German railways an adult is a person aged 15 and over) can take up to four children aged 6 - 14 with them at no additional charge.
 • Tickets need to be booked for children aged 0 - 5, but there is no charge for them.
 • Those aged 65 and over can take journeys at a discounted rate.
 • Dogs, which are too large to be placed in pet carriers, require tickets which cost 50% of the adult rate.

When booking both types of the discounted 'Sparpreis' tickets seat reservations are an optional extra, so need to be added when booking if you want an assigned seat(s).

SNCF Connect Guide

SNCF is the national rail operator in France and not so long ago it recently simplified both the range of tickets and the term and conditions of using them. Therefore the cheapest tickets also become more flexible too.

Other improvements included a simple integration of travelling with bicycles and rail pass users being able to book reservations for national journeys, without paying booking fees.

And it also recently launched SNCF Connect as replacement for its Oui.SNCF booking service. You can set up a low price alert to let you know when the cheapest price is available for a future journey.

Something else to look out for is that simplest way of travelling with tickets is to use the SNCF Connect App, as booked tickets can therefore be stored on your mobile device, which can then be shown to the train conductors as proof of purchase.

SNCF Connect in the App (Apple) store

SNCF also operates RailEurope , which is in effect a dedicated online booking service for making bookings from outside of Europe. If you reside outside of Europe you may discover that SNCF Connect rejects phone numbers or card numbers, but RailEurope won't do so. Though RailEurope will add booking fees when making a purchase

That's because the most common form of online payment used in The Netherlands is 'iDEAL' and HappyRail doesn't charge a transaction fee for 'iDEAL' payments, but only Dutch residents can sign up to 'iDEAL'. Travel Information

Final Destination: Frankfurt (Main)

All trains also call at: Mannheim

Some trains also call at: Kaiserslautern

Some trains also call at: Karlsruhe

Note that these trains depart from Gare de l'Est in Paris .

Until 2016 all trains between Paris and Frankfurt (Main) travelled via Kaiserslautern, but now the high speed line from Paris has been extended to Strasbourg, some trains take that route.

Whether the train travels via Kaiserlautern or Strasbourg, doesn’t make such a significant difference to journey times to make it worthwhile to choose one departure over another – particularly if the cheapest possible price is a factor.

The trains via Strasbourg also call at Karlsruhe.

This is a direct journey

Journey Features

Good to know.

The morning departures are scheduled to be TGV trains, while the afternoon/evening departures SHOULD be ICE trains.

Not much to see from the high speed line

Via: Kaiserslautern

This is a journey of four distinct phases.

 • Around 13 minutes after departure the train will move on to the high speed line, on which between Champagne-Ardennes and Lorraine, it should travel at more than 300 km/h (faster than the speed achieved by ICE trains in Germany).
 • Shorty after passing Lorraine TGV station, the train will move on to conventional tracks.
 • Between Kaiserslautern and Neustadt the train will travel through a series of forests in the valleys, this is the most scenic part of the journey.
 • After passing through the cities of Ludwigshafen and Mannheim, the train will pass through the commuter towns to the south of Frankfurt.

Via: Strasbourg This is a journey of three distinct phases.

 • The train will take the same high speed line from Paris, but will remain on it until around 5 minutes before arrival in Strasbourg.
 • On departure from Strasbourg the train will travel fairly slowly on a route it will share with local metro trains.
 • Then it will speed up, but remain on conventional railway tracks as it passes through Karlsruhe and Mannheim.

How Eurail and InterRail pass users can save money when travelling from Paris by train

These trains now take one of two routes; (1) via Kaiserslautern, (2) via Strasbourg - but that doesn't tend to impact on ticket prices, what matters more is the departure time and how popular a train is likely to be.

Book early and save: Yes Online bookings usually open: up to 6 months ahead of the travel date - but this period of time is shorter when looking up journeys in August to October.

A choice of tickets

Four types of ticket are typically available: Two types of discounted tickets, which will be cheaper the further ahead you book - Sparpreis Europa and Super Sparpreis Europa Two types of non-discounted ticket - Flexpreis Europa and Flexpreis Plus Europa.

A key difference between these types of tickets is refunds:

 • Super Sparpreis tickets are cheapest, but they can't be refunded at all.
 • Sparpreis tickets can be refunded for a fee, but the refund will be in the form of travel vouchers to be used for alternative / future journeys.
 • Flexpreis Europa and Flexpreis Plus Europa tickets can be refunded at no additional charge.

The other key difference is that both types of Sparpreis tickets are only valid on the specific departures selected when booking, but both types of Flexpreis tickets live up to their name, as they can be used on any departure on your travel date.

Note that none of the tickets can be exchanged to a different departure. There's no need for this to be available for Flexpreis Europa tickets, as they aren't train departure specific. If you book a Sparpreis Europa ticket and want to travel by a different departure you can refund it and then use the travel voucher towards the cost of the new booking. Super Sparpreis Europa tickets can't be exchanged or refunded.

The Sparpreis, Flexpreis and Flexpreis Plus tickets also include 'City tickets', which can be used on public transport between Frankfurt (Main) Hbf and locations in Frankfurt city centre.

Seat reservations

Reservations are mandatory on these trains from Paris, so will be included, when booking tickets, but if you will be using a rail pass you will need to make a reservation.

Seat reservations are optional on the ICE train on to Berlin. They cost €4.90 when travelling in 2nd Class and €5.90 when travelling in 1st class - Specific seats can be selected from seating plans - you don't have to accept the seat(s) that you will be automatically offered.

They are included within the cost of booking 1st class Flexpreis tickets and both 1st and 2nd class Flexpreis Plus tickets.

On this journey which involves two trains on which seat reservations are available, the fees cover all trains - if reservations are added when initially booking.

When booking Super Sparpreis, Sparpreis and 2nd class Flexpreis tickets, you have the option of purchasing seat reservations later. It can be worth re-looking up a journey a week or two ahead of travel, because the DB website will indicate how busy a departure will be. Though if you opt to add reservations later you will have pay the fees per train.

Europe’s cheapest city break is known as ‘Little Paris’

A pretty city without many tourists has been named as europe's cheapest summer holiday for 2024..

Bucharest

Ready to book a summer getaway? A beautiful city in Eastern Europe has been named as one of the continent’s best value summer holiday destinations.

According to research from the team at Flight Hacks , Bucharest is the best value holiday destination for this summer.

The Romanian capital is sometimes known as ‘Little Paris’ as its architecture bears similarities to the City of Lights.

The team’s research found that the price of a hotel cost just £86.72 on average, making it a bargain compared to other European cities.

So what is there to do in Bucharest?

Stavropoleos Monastery

Bucharest’s top-rated attraction on Tripadvisor is the Stavropoleos Monastery which was built in the 1700s.

A tourist wrote: “The Stavropoleos Monastery is a little gem nestled into the old town of Bucharest. It’s amazing how peaceful and quiet it is given its location.”

If it’s good weather, check out the monuments at Herastrau Park which one tourist described as “a great oasis of peace”.

Papanasi

Bucharest is also close to one of Europe’s best value spas. Theme București is outside the city centre and has a huge range of pools and spa facilities.

Admission to the spa can cost as little as £35 and one tourist described it as “an amazing wellness centre”.

After a day at the spa, tuck into a plate of papanasi, a form of fried doughnut filled with cottage cheese and cream and smothered in berry jam.

Travel can be an exhilarating experience, whisking you off to parts unknown or familiar comforts.

However, the gateway to these adventures—airports—can sometimes become more akin to a trial by fire, particularly regarding delays and cancellations.

As travel ramps up in a world rebounding from restrictions, understanding which airports have a tendency to disrupt travel plans is more crucial than ever. Here’s a roundup of the eight notorious culprits that could turn your travel excitement into exasperation.

Europe’s busiest airport, Heathrow, often lands on travelers’ lists for all the wrong reasons. 1. London Heathrow (LHR)

Europe’s busiest airport, Heathrow, often lands on travelers’ lists for all the wrong reasons. Last year alone, a staggering number of passengers found themselves stranded or delayed, thanks to an overtaxed infrastructure struggling to handle post-pandemic travel volumes.

Weather conditions in the UK can exacerbate delays, with fog and winter snow causing frequent disturbances. The airport is making strides in improving, but it’s a good idea to always have a backup plan when flying through Heathrow.

Top airlines flying from charles de gaulle to frankfurt am main.

Excellent apart from transport to actual plane 10 minutes from the actual gate , walking out in the tarmac in the rain and having to climb stairs to enter while holding luggage.

They wanted to close counter although they did not provide the wheelchair requested which ended by going alone to transit security and lost long time and they did not want to wait .

They charge me for luggage which is was included on the ticket

Good aorcraft 777 but Worst food ever Breakfast was a bû’with matonnaise… Staff was nice but invisible most of the flight

Everything went smoothly with Air France. There was a delay in departure which seemed to relate to the immigration services being short staffed.

Food could have been better especially the breakfast. Overall it was a good flight

No bording was given for next trip on same carrier, food was very moderate.

Lost luggage, 2 bags were badly damaged and one of the bags came open.

A couple of minor delays in boarding but very professional and efficient staff.

Crew was professional. Boarding has few seats . Since the plane was not full would have been nice to change seat on the internet

This airline is the cheapest airline I ever seen I had to pay for my seat and it wasn't even same isle with my husband They charge for everything very rude crew All they think is to sell Who care about customer service just sell you tea coffee water etc.

Everything could be better. The plain was in Orlando for 3 hours prior to boarding. After boarding all the passengers they found out that plane has a mechanical problem. After an hour the problem was solved, the pilot comes on and states, (We have to go back to the gate and take on more fuel!) Are you kidding me???? Who they have for pilots, Boy scouts?? I barely made my connecting flight to Vienna, but my suitcase did not. I'm still waiting for it, in Gyor, Hungary. Am I having fun yet?? Other passenger were in the same binned. I travelled all over the world both for business and pleasure with all types of airlines. By far of all the carriers I travelled with, Discover is the worst. I'm contemplating to bight the bullet and go back to the US with a different carrier. For International flights, the seats are made for little people. The person in front of me had his seat reclined the whole way, I felt like he was sitting in my lap. For closing, I would not let my dog travel with Discover, yet alone recommend it to an other person. Does it sound like I'm frustrated, Think about having to travel back to the US with them. I'm sure I'll not hear back from you, because nobody wants to hear about bad news, but with all the hype Discover puts out there about their services, nothing could be further from the truth. Joseph A. Nagy

Only problem we experienced was not anything to do with Lufthansa. When changing planes in Frankfurt we spent over an hour on passport control line. Lufthansa did a marvelous job on everything from keeping me informed via texts, to terrific cabin crew.

Bordón could be bettet if the company say before boarding the order of the different groups.

There is no recline on flight from DFW to FRA. Middle eastern airways provide better recline option for the same class. FRA to Bangalore has better recline option. I bid 100$ for premium economy, my request was declined. But staff handled it without issues.

Nothing can I say I liked. Food was horrible. Entertainment system didn't work. Crew's attitude was bad. They all were Chinese and wanted to speak Chinese. Baggage missed my connection at Frankfurt even though it was more than 60 minutes for my connection. It came in the next flight of 3 hours later at 16.15 Portugal time but they said they will deliver to me next day. I requested them that I had to go to a dinner meeting so needed clothes and there were medical documents in the bag which I needed for my Doctors appointment on the next day morning. But all no use. Then I had to take taxi, go to airport at 9PM and collect my bags myself and brought bags to my hotel. Will avoid Lufthansa at any cost and same I will suggest to everybodyelse.

German crew were very kind. Food was okay but can be better, especially bread was not good, Garbage collection was very poor.

Not good, the plane was warm , they were selling everything even water

The flight crew was outstanding. Small children running around and constantly crying was extremely annoying.

The boarding was a mess; I'm unclear why they can't organize it by boarding number.

ATM 2024: Emirates and MSC Cruises renew partnership for two more seasons

For the next two years, guests can book a Fly&Cruise holiday package with MSC Cruises

Untitled-2

Dubai: Emirates and MSC Cruises have renewed their partnership for another two seasons.

Announced at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai, the partnership builds on an existing 10-year relationship and will leverage the airline's and MSC Cruises's strengths to enhance the guest experience and support the growth of Dubai's cruise tourism ecosystem.

For the next two years, guests can book a Fly&Cruise holiday package with MSC Cruises, which includes Emirates return flights from 21 airports across Europe and South America.

Nabil Sultan, Emirates' Executive Vice President for Passenger Sales and Country Management, said, "We're eager to continue our partnership with MSC Cruises, which has been an integral part of Dubai's growing cruise tourism industry. We're confident that we have the right plans as we work closely to deliver a seamless sea-to-air experience for our customers."

Gianni Onorato, CEO of MSC Cruises, said, "We are delighted to further extend our partnership with Emirates for MSC Euribia Fly&Cruise packages from Dubai this winter season. Guests will benefit from a streamlined journey from home to ship and a dedicated support team for a stress-free start and end to their holiday."

Emirates and MSC Cruises' partnership will continue to focus on joint promotional strategies, such as Fly&Cruise and marketing campaigns in key markets, to boost Dubai's appeal as a cruise destination.

The airline and MSC Cruises will also focus on sharing relevant data and insights to improve service delivery, coordinate flight and cruise schedules, and facilitate a smooth check-in process at Port Rashid.

The benefits of the Fly&Cruise packages include being met at arrivals with a dedicated bus transfer to the ship. On return, guests can drop their bags in the cruise terminal and collect them directly once they arrive at their destination.

Capitalising on Emirates' extensive international network, the MSC Fly&Cruise packages, including Emirates flights, are available from Italy (Milan, Rome), Germany (Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Dusseldorf), United Kingdom (London Heathrow, Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle) and Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Dublin, Lisbon, Paris, Stockholm, Vienna, Zurich and São Paulo.
