When artists fuse genres to create new and exciting music, it’s a demonstration of great skill and talent, and Ignite’s creating of their melodic hardcore music is something that I thoroughly enjoy, and has now become a mainstream genre. I’ve seen them perform countless times over the years, and they always put on a great show: they’re performance dedication and technique is of incredibly high standards, and they give every performance 110%, which is always completely contagious to the audience, who dance and sing along from start to finish.

They opened the show with their track Ash Return from back in the day, and had everyone singing along right from the outset. Their skills on their respective instruments are incredible, and some of the solos that they performed totally blew me away. Nik hill played an awesome solo, whilst Zoltan Teglas sang some incredibly high notes over the top, causing the audience to go crazy. It’s great that they put different spins on their music from the recordings, giving everyone something to really get excited about at their shows. Although their line up has altered considerably over the years, the band are all tight together, and you really wouldn’t know that they weren’t the original group.

Great show! It was unbelievable, better than when I seen them 20 years ago. Really a great set, worth seeing and go pick up the new album. Zoli and the band were tight and the energy was unreal. Great representation of hardcore music.

INTERVIEW: Ignite reignite their band with new album, new singer, new tour

Ignite, billed as a melodic hardcore band, are back on the music scene in a big way. Their new self-titled album introduces to listeners their new lead singer, Eli Santana, and they are celebrating by heading out on the road in the United States. They stop Thursday, May 12 at the Debonair Music Hall in Teaneck, New Jersey, for a headlining gig with support from Silence Equals Death, Rest Assured? and Bullet Brigade.

“This U.S. tour is going to be pretty fun because we have some headlining shows, but we also have a few shows where we’re jumping on with other bands,” said Brett Rasmussen, bassist for Ignite. “We’ve been playing five or six new songs a night, mixing in with another old 10, 11, 12 and having fun playing all the eras. The new stuff we’re super inspired by it because obviously we just wrote it and recorded it a year and a half ago.”

Rasmussen said he has been blown away by the fans’ reaction to the new album, which features the single “Anti-Complicity Anthem.” He was a bit worried because the band changed its singer, which some diehard devotees don’t always accept, but the band members and now their fanbase have embraced Santana. Rounding out the band are Nik Hill (guitars), Kevin Kilkenny (guitars) and Craig Andersen (drums).

“It’s a big shift to bring in a new voice, and you never know how people are going to react,” he said. “We were super happy with the results, and we were super happy with the songs and the sound, the music, Eli’s voice. And that’s all we could really go with. That’s all you can trust. It’s us five in a studio with our producer, Cameron Webb, who we have the utmost confidence and trust in, so at the end of the day, when that album was done, we couldn’t be happier with the results. At that point, you just kind of throw it out there to the world and go, all right, I hope everybody hears what we’re hearing. That’s always an interesting thing being a musician and being a songwriter / artist. We do it for us. We do it because we’re stoked on the music, and that’s really the only agenda. When it connects with people, it’s so cool. It’s such a bonus to the whole process, so, yeah, the response has been amazing from top to bottom.”

Santana was a longtime Ignite fan before he joined the band, and he also traveled in the same circles as Rasmussen and company. They would see one another at metal concerts, and Santana became close friends with Anderson, Ignite’s drummer.

“We were trying to find a guy that would fit and not only do justice to the back catalog but also a voice that we were inspired by,” Rasmussen said. “We played with a few guys, and it wasn’t really clicking on anything. It wasn’t really where we wanted to be, and I talked to our drummer, Craig. I said, ‘Hey, maybe hit up your friend Eli and see if he knows anybody that would be available to sing.’ We didn’t he know he was a singer at the time because he had only been playing as far as we knew guitar. … But he asked if he could lay down his vocals on a demo. We were like, yeah, go ahead. We were looking for somebody that fits and wants to do this, and that’s how we stumbled onto him.”

The songwriting in Ignite is a collaborative effort. Sometimes a band member will bring a song that is completely finished and ready to be practiced, while other times a band member will bring in a riff or baseline that needs to be fleshed out. For “Anti-Complicity Anthem,” Rasmussen brought the music, and Hill penned the lyrics.

“After we connected with Eli, then we got him on the recording of that, and it really brought the song to life,” the bassist said. “That’s how that song worked, and then we came to find out Eli is a great songwriter.”

Rasmussen added: “There’s definitely agendas in the lyrics. A lot of times songs tell a personal story that people can connect with, and we definitely have those songs, too. But over the years and through this new record, if there’s an issue that we think needs light shed on it, or if there’s an issue that we think needs some resolve or something needs to be made aware of, we feel that’s a great platform what we’re doing to shed light on these issues. We’ve got some stuff on the album on homelessness and some immigration issues and marginalized groups that we’ve decided to write songs about. It’s just a great platform to shed light on these issues that we feel maybe aren’t getting the proper attention that they need.”

IGNITE 's new self-titled album comes six years after the release of their previous full-length, "A War Against You" . But the tangible excitement that radiates from "Ignite" makes the band sound like they never missed a day. Yet in that time, they underwent a major member change, with Eli Santana ( HOLY GRAIL ) taking over vocal duties. And while his style isn't much different from Zoltán "Zoli" Téglás , there is an infectious energy that Santana brings to the record. By self-titling a release that's more than 25 years into their career, IGNITE are clearly celebrating a new beginning.

"Ignite" is brimming with the charms of West Coast skate punk: quick tempos, group vocals and adrenaline-fueled, anti-establishment lyrics covered in major-key, California sunshine. Songs like "Anti-Complicity Anthem" and "This Day" are perfect examples of this, and it doesn't get much catchier than the ultimate toe-tapper, "The House Is Burning" .

But there are more tense moments, too. Brooding tracks "Enemy" and "Let The Beggars Beg" give the album some depth without getting too morose. Sonically, "Call Off The Dogs" is the heaviest song, with Santana providing the only screaming part — and a damn good one — on the record.

Even with the changes in mood, "Ignite" never lets up its feverish momentum. Despite messages that confront topics like immigration and racial injustice with words like, "How many bodies in the river?" ( "The River" ),there is an underlying uplifting spirit beneath it all. The Orange County band's latest stimulating installment will surely satisfy old fans and capture new ones.

Mick Fleetwood Wants ‘Healing' Between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham: ‘That Doesn't Have to Take the Shape of a Tour, Necessarily'

Mick Fleetwood recently told Mojo magazine that he'd love to see his "Fleetwood Mac" band members Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham find "healing." Fleetwood appeared to be interested in getting the band back together, but several hurdles exist such as the death of original member Christine McVie in November 2022.

"It's no secret, it's no title-tattle that there is a brick wall there emotionally," Fleetwood said of Buckingham and Nicks. "Stevie's able to speak clearly about how she feels and doesn't feel, as does Lindsey. But I'll say, personally, I would love to see a healing between them – and that doesn't have to take the shape of a tour, necessarily."

The most recent iteration of Fleetwood Mac (which included Fleetwood, Nicks, McVie and John McVie, plus support from Neil Finn and Mike Campbell) wrapped a world tour in November 2019. Fleetwood told Mojo that he had no idea that would be the final show for the iconic rock band.

"There was a full intention, without waiting too long, that we'd go and pick things back up," Fleetwood said. "That we'd play stadiums, big shows and festivals… and then at that point it was heading towards us saying goodbye."

The plan was upended by both the COVID pandemic in 2020 and Christine McVie's death in 2022. Nicks has been clear since the loss of McVie that there is no reason to bring Fleetwood Mac back together without her.

"It's been a strange time for me," Fleetwood said. "Losing sweet Christine was catastrophic. And then, in my world, sort of losing the band too. And I [split] with my partner as well. I just found myself sort of licking my wounds."

Fleetwood is currently writing solo music for a solo record that would be his first in 20 years. He added: "And believe it or not, I'm actually starting to sing – so God help you."

Fleetwood told the Los Angeles Times in February 2022 that "the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris. I'd say we're done, but then we've all said that before. It's sort of unthinkable right now."

A few months later, Nicks spoke to Vulture  and said: "When Christine died, I felt like you can't replace her. You just can't. Without her, what is it? You know what I mean? She was like my soul mate, my musical soul mate, and my best friend that I spent more time with than any of my other best friends outside of Fleetwood Mac…When she died, I figured we really can't go any further with this. There's no reason to."

Nicks doubled down on her thoughts in her own interview with Mojo just last month, saying: "Without Christine, no can do. There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn't work."

"Even if I thought I could work with Lindsey again, he's had some health problems," Nicks added, alluding to Buckingham's open heart surgery in 2019. "It's not for me to say, but I'm not sure if Lindsey could do the kind of touring that Fleetwood Mac does, where you go out for a year and half. It's so demanding."
