Planning of tour to be improved and no adequate information provided by the agent resulting additional cost for staying in Guptkashi. Hotel was changed more than once which was dis appointing. In fact we have to stay with extra beds one day in Rishikesh despite booking for 4 people. At the outset agent has to improve. Just okay with the services. Hotel Heera and their hospitality was good despite their very compact rooms for 4.

Worst experience. We book package coz we are new to place. Itenary looked like it's taken care end to end. But they take responsibility of only hotel booking and taxi. That to cheapest possible...nothing else..I literally struggled during kedarnath tour driver doesn't know agent neither abt package...he says his duty is to drop, we struggled to search hotels...and manage everything else on our own..they dint even register for yatra as promised..I had to book sitting late night in the hotel. They never respond to the calls. And margin they charge for following up constantly and bookings is 60%.. Avoid these people...if you don't star them better u can't submit the feedback

Hotels were below average. Breakfast and dinner was included in the package but some of the hotels provided below standard food. Only Gangotri hotel was good. Cab engine got broken on the way had to wait approx 4-5 hrs for replacement cab. During return can was changed from sedan to Alto. Although when we declined to continue travel in Alto , sedan was provided. Driver and can operator were very helpful. Service of travel agent was almost fine no mazor issues but had to follow up frequently on few things. Please check cancellation policy of the travel agent before booking. Travel triangle takes no responsibility of anything. Better book directly. Cab operator helped at Badrinath to get darshan nicely. Also helped in finding the hotel at night after drop off at rishikesh. Hotel at Gangotri was really nice and provided dinner even when we reached hotel very late at night.

After the snow clears at the foothills of the Himalayas in late April, Hindu pilgrims start flocking to the four ancient temples known as Char Dham. Located high up in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand , these temples mark the spiritual source of four holy rivers: the Yamuna (at Yamunotri), the Ganges (at Gangotri), the Mandakini (at Kedarnath), and the Alaknanda (at Badrinath). Hindus consider visiting the Char Dham to be very auspicious. Not only is it believed to wash away all sins, it will also ensure release from the cycle of birth and death. There are a number of options for going on a Char Dham yatra (journey).

Char Dham Yatra Overview

The Char Dham are only open at certain times of the year from late April or early May to November. May and June is the peak pilgrimage period. The monsoon season (July to September) can quite dangerous as the rain makes the route slippery.

How Can the Char Dham be Reached?

A Char Dham yatra isn't easy. Pilgrims really need to earn the benefits bestowed, as only two of the temples (Badrinath and Gangotri) are accessible by vehicle. How to Visit Gangotri Temple

The simple shrine of Gangotri temple has special significance for Hindu pilgrims. It's considered to be one of the holiest places in India as it's regarded as the spiritual source of the ever powerful Ganges River. Set amidst rugged mountains and forest, Gangotri attracts almost 300,000 pilgrims a year. Every evening towards 8 p.m., an aarti (worship with fire) is held at the temple.

When is Gangotri Temple Open?

Gangotri temple opens on a set day every year. This falls on Akshaya Tritiya (an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar), in the last week of April or first week of May.  In 2021, Gangotri will open on May 14. The occasion features a traditional procession of the Goddess Ganga back from her winter home at Mukhyamath temple in Mukhba village, 20 kilometers (12 miles) downstream. The temple closes on Diwali every year, and the Goddess returned to Mukhyamath temple.

The same as Gangotri temple, Yamunotri temple opens every year on Akshaya Tritiya (an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar). It falls in the last week of April or first week of May. In 2021, it is on May 14. The temple also closes for the season on Diwali. On the day the temple opens, the Goddess is carried from the nearby village of Kharsali (said to be Yamuna's mother's home), installed in the temple, and duly returned when the temple closes.

How Can Yamunotri Temple be Reached?

The route by road is Haridwar/Rishikesh-Dehradun-Mussoorie-Naugaon-Barkot–Hanuman Chatti. The journey to the village of Hanuman Chatti, which is around 14 kilometers from the Yamunotri temple, takes around eight hours from Rishikesh and six hours from the hill station of Mussoorie . From there, it's necessary to take a shared taxi (departures every few minutes) to Janki Chatti. Your trek starts there! It's only 5 kilometers (3 miles) to the Yamunotri temple, via Kharsali, but it's a very steep and and in some parts narrow climb. As a result, people usually take around two hours to cover the distance and it really helps if you take a locally available walking stick. If you find you don't want to walk, there are mules and men to help carry you.

Basic guesthouses and GMVN Tourist Bungalows provide accommodations at Yamunotri, Janki Chatti, and Hanuman Chatti. If you stay the night at Yamunotri, you'll be able to witness the evening aarti (worship with fire) there.

Is it Possible to See the Actual Source of the Yamuna River?

The origin of the Yamuna River is a frozen lake and glacier located around a kilometer above the temple. Unless you have mountaineering skills, the climb isn't advised though. It's a very difficult one.

How to Visit Kedarnath Temple

The most remote and holiest of the Char Dham, although Kedarnath temple requires effort to get to, it still draws more than 100,000 pilgrims a year. This is because it's considered to be the seat of Lord Shiva and the most important of the 12 Jyotirlingas (large lingas /shrines to Shiva) in India. It's an impressive temple too -- perhaps the largest and most magnificent one in the Himalayas. Situated high up in Lord Shiva's territory, it occupies a glacial terrace leftover from a long ago melted glacier, in the Mandakini Valley.

When is Kedarnath Temple Open?

The opening date is decided by priests on Maha Shivaratri in late February or early March each year. In 2021, it will open on May 17. The temple closes the day after Diwali each year.

How Can Kedarnath Temple be Reached?

The route to Kedarnath starts off at Rishikesh and heads in the same direction as to Badrinath, but branches off at Rudraprayag (where connections are available). The destination is Gaurikund, 14 kilometers (9 miles) from Kedarnath. The whole journey from Rishikesh takes around 12 hours by bus or jeep. Then, from Gaurikund, it's a grueling uphill trek to the temple. Expect it to take around six hours. The stunning scenery of the Mandakini River along the way helps though! Those who don't feel up to walking can opt to take a pony, which will reduce the duration of the trek by an hour. There are porters available to help carry luggage as well.

Alternatively, Kedranath temple is also accessible by helicopter! The Uttarakhand government provides services departing from various locations and online bookings can be made here . Other options are Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd (owned by the Indian government) and private company Pilgrim Aviation . A one way trip only takes 15 minutes.

Where to Stay?

In terms of accommodations, basic GMVN Tourist Bungalows can be found at Gaurikund. Following the devastating 2013 flash flood, which destroyed infrastructure around the temple, the government has constructed tent colonies to accommodate pilgrims. New sanitation facilities, including toilets and bathrooms, have been added along with community kitchens.

By Road

Highways 309 and 109 links Nainital, Almora and Jim Corbett National Park. Haridwar

Importance of Yamunotri Dham:

To begin explaining the importance of Char Dham Yatra, let us start with the first destination of this holy pilgrimage circuit, the Yamunotri Dham. The main centre of this site is the Yamunotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, also known as the Lady of Life. The sacred Yamuna River also originates in Yamunotri. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Yamuna was the twin sister of the God of Death, Yama. On the occasion of “Bhai Dooj”, Yama made a promise to Yamuna that whoever takes a dip in the waters of the Yamuna River will therefore attain salvation and not experience the sufferings of Yamlok (Hell). Hence, to this day, millions of devotees from across the world visit this Dham to take a dip into the holy river with the belief that it will wash away their sins and shield them against an unfortunate demise. Importance of Gangotri Dham:

After visiting the Yamunotri Dham, devotees move towards the Gangotri Dham, placed at an elevation of 3,400 m above sea level. It is located at Gomukh, which is the sacred source of the Ganga River. According to Hindu mythology, after numerous failed attempts, King Bhagirath was able to bring Ganga from heaven to earth through years of deep meditation at Gangotri. He was the grandson of King Anshuman and was able to impress Lord Shiva through his determination, who released three streams on earth, one of which came to be known as Bhagirathi. Similar to the Yamuna River, the Ganga River is also referred to as one of the holiest rivers flowing through India and a source of purity. The next stoppage point of the holy Yatra following Kedarnath is the Badrinath Dham. It is not only the final destination of the Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra but also a part of the Bada Char Dham Yatra. Hence, the significance of Badrinath Dham to individuals of the Hindu faith is immense. Located on the River Alakananda’s left bank, this Dham is nestled at an elevation of 3,133 metres. According to Hindu mythology, when Dharma’s two sons, Narayan and Nar, were looking for suitable places to set up their hermitage in the Himalayas, they came along Vridha Badri, Yog Badri, Bhavisya Badri and Dhyan Badri. Prior to going ahead and booking one of the Chardham packages, you need to ascertain what time of the year you are going to be travelling and whether or not the Chardham Yatra is open at that time of the year. Chotta Chardham comprises Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, with the temples marking the sources of Hinduism’s four rivers - Ganga, Yamuna, Mandakini and Alaknanda. The Chardham Yatra remains open between April to the first half of November. Although the specific dates are announced by the state government of Uttarakhand annually and it states the opening and closing dates of the circuit. In the winter, the deities are moved to their winter abode such as Joshimath for Badrinath, Ukimath for Kedarnath, Mukhba for Gangotri and Kharsali for Yamunotri. These winter abodes stay open round the year and you can visit them in that season in case you cannot make it to Chardham within the stipulated period. Q. What is the significance of Gangotri in Chardham Yatra? A. As you go through Chardham tour packages, make sure you have enough time at Gangotri, the source of Hinduism’s holiest river, the Ganges. Day 01: dehradun/delhi- haridwar.

Today our representative will pick you up from either Delhi Airport or Dehradun Airport. From there, we will escort you to Haridwar, where you'll complete the check-in formalities at your hotel. Haridwar is known to be the "gateway to the almighty Lord," and holds lots of importance for Hindus. It is located on the Ganges River bank and is believed to be blessed by Vishnu. Har Ki Pauri is one of the most revered ghats in Haridwar established by King Vikarma and Saint Bharathi, adding to its spiritual allure. After a short nap at your hotel, you’ll get ready to visit Har Ki Pauri to attend the Ganga Aarti. You can also visit the Mansa Devi Temple if you have time. In the evening you will return to your hotel and enjoy a lip-smacking dinner. Have an overnight stay at your hotel.

Day 02: Haridwar – Barkot (6 – 7 hrs/210 kms)

On the second day, you will enjoy a mouth-watering breakfast at the hotel and then you will head to Barkot, a picturesque town situated at a distance of around 210 kilometers from Haridwar. The journey will take you through Mussoorie’s picturesque hill station, where you'll soak in the breathtaking views of the valleys and surrounding mountains. On the way to Barkot, you'll visit the famous Kempty Falls, a splendid waterfall known for its cascading waters and natural beauty. Take some time to rejuvenate and relax amidst the refreshing and lush green atmosphere of the falls. After arriving at Barkot you will check into your pre-booked hotel and unwind. Day 03: Barkot – Yamunotri – Barkot (6 kms trek/42 kms drive)

Today you’ll embark on an excursion to Yamunotri from Barkot. After having a mouth-watering breakfast at your Barkot hotel, you will head to Janki Chatti which is the trek’s starting point. After reaching Janki Chatti, you’ll undertake the challenging trek towards Yamunotri covering around 5.5 kilometers. The path is filled with scenic vistas of the Himalayan landscape making the trekking journey a memorable experience. Along the way, you will pass through beautiful hamlets like Phoolchatti, immersing yourself in the serenity of the surroundings.

Once you reach Yamunotri offer your prayers to Maa Yamuna and seek her blessings. The spiritual aura of Yamunotri Temple will leave an indelible impression on your heart, reaffirming your devotion and faith. After the divine darshan, you will retrace your steps back to Barkot and have an overnight stay at your pre-booked hotel. Don’t forget to indulge in a lip-smacking dinner before retiring to sleep.

Day 04: Barkot – Uttarkashi (4 hours Drive)

On the fourth day, you will head for a picturesque drive to the town of Uttarkashi from Barkot. Uttarkashi is situated amidst the snow-capped Himalayas. Enjoy a tasty breakfast at your Barkot hotel and then say goodbye to the serene surroundings. You’ll head for a four-hour journey to Uttarkashi appreciating the lush greenery, snow-capped peaks, and cascading streams adorning the horizon. After arriving in Uttarkashi, you will check in to your hotel and enjoy the warm hospitality. The town exudes a serene charm, with its spiritual vibes and tranquil ambiance. Day 05: Uttarkashi – Gangotri – Uttarkashi (3-4 hours/100 Kms Drive One Way)

Today you will prepare yourself for an exciting journey to the town of Gangotri from Uttarkashi, tracing the divine River Ganga’s path. Enjoy a luscious breakfast in the morning and then head out for a 100-kilometer drive, transversing through breathtaking landscapes adorned with snow-clad peaks and verdant valleys. On the way to Gangotri, you will stop by Harsil, a tranquil hamlet known for its panoramic vistas and serene ambiance. Here, you will immerse yourself in the surrounding’s natural beauty.

Once you have reached Gangotri, you will absorb the sacred atmosphere that envelopes the town and catch the sight of the Bhagirathi River which is known to be the holy River Ganga’s origin point. You will take a holy dip in the sacred waters, rejuvenating your spirits and purifying your souls. You will then head to the Gangotri Temple built in honor of Goddess Ganga. Offer prayers, perform rituals, and seek the blessings of the Goddess for your spiritual journey. After the blissful visit to the temple, you’ll head back to Uttarkashi. As you retrace your path through the breathtaking landscapes, you will be full of gratitude for the profound experiences.

Day 06: Uttarkashi – Sitapur (9 to 10 hours/230 km)

Today you will prepare yourself for a picturesque drive Sitapur from Uttarkashi, spanning around 230 kilometers in a duration of around 9 to 10 hours. You will set out for the journey at around 8 AM after relishing a mouth-watering breakfast. You will transverse the scenic routes via Lambgoan and Moolgarh.

On the way, you’ll see the Mandakini River, whose waters emanate from the Kedarnath region. Following the river’s course, you will arrive at Guptakashi which is known for its spiritual significance. Here, you’ll visit the Ardh Narishwar Temple which is situated amidst the breathtaking backdrop of the Himalayas and is dedicated to Lord Shiva in his Ardhnarishwar form. The sacred ambiance and ancient architecture of the temple will leave a lasting impression on your heart, deepening your connection with God. After absorbing Guptakashi’s divine ambiance, you will resume your journey and reach Sitapur, where you will check into your hotel and have a relaxing sleep.

Day 07: Sitapur – Kedarnath

On the seventh day, you will have two different options to reach the revered Kedarnath shrine, one of Lord Shiva’s 12 jyotirlingas. The first option involves a departure early in the morning after breakfast, where you’ll be dropped off at the designated helipad at Sersi, Guptkashi, or Phata, as per the reporting time that the Helicopter Company has provided to you. From there, you’ll board a helicopter for Shri Kedarnath Ji. Once you have reached the helipad at Kedarnath Ji, you’ll perform Pooja and have the divine darshan of Lord Kedarnath. After that, you will have an overnight stay at Kedarnath Ji. You can also return and have an overnight stay at Sitapur.

Alternatively, you can also choose the second option wherein you will check out early in the morning from your hotel and embark on a scenic drive to Sonprayag. From there, you will catch a government jeep that will drop you at GauriKund, where the Shri Kedarnath Ji’s trek will commence. The trek spans around 19 kilometers and can be completed in 8 hours. Once you have reached Kedarnath Ji, you will perform Pooja and seek darshan, followed by a stay at Kedarnath Ji or a return journey to Sitapur. Savor a luscious dinner at your hotel and settle in for the night.

Day 08: Kedarnath – Sitapur / Govindghat

Today you can choose from any of the three options for your further journey. The first option entails an early morning helipad visit so that you can catch a helicopter to Sitapur. From there, you’ll head to Govindghat covering around 170 kilometers journey in around 7 hours. On the way, you will visit Ukhimath, known as Kedarnath Ji’s winter abode. Once you have reached Govindghat, you will check in to your pre-booked hotel and have an overnight stay.

Alternatively, you can choose the second option if you have returned on the previous day from Kedarnath and stay at Sitapur. After a mouth-watering breakfast, you will check out from your hotel and head to Govindghat via Ukhimath. You will follow exactly the same route that you followed in the first option.

You can also choose the third option wherein you’ll be provided an option to embark on a scenic trek early in the morning. You’ll start the trekking journey from Kedarnath and reach Gaurikund. From Gaurikund, you will drive to Sitapur and have an overnight stay at your hotel, following a different route than the other two options.

Day 09: Govindghat – Badrinath

Today you can choose from any of the two options for your journey. If you choose the first option you will savor a lip-smacking breakfast and then you will check out from your hotel and head for a 30-kilometer journey for darshan to Badrinath. Along the way, you will take a holy dip in the Tapt Kund and see the Badrivishal. After that, you will attend the evening Aarti. Badrinath holds lots of prominence for Hindu devotees, especially for those who perform their ancestors' Pinddan Shraddh at Brahamakapal. Additionally, you can visit the famous sightseeing spots nearby, such as Vyas Gufa, Maatamoorti, Mana Village, the Saraswati River's "Mukh," Charanpaduka, and Bhimkund. These attractions are situated at a distance of around three kilometers from Badrinathjee. Retire for the night in your room at Badrinath after having a delectable dinner.

The second option is suitable for those who have trekked and finally reached Sitapur. Enjoy a hearty breakfast and then check out from your Sitapur hotel and embark on a journey spanning 8-9 hours to Badrinath, covering approximately 180 kilometers distance. En route, you will visit Ukhimath, Kedarnath Ji’s winter abode. Once you have reached Badrinath, you will partake in the same sightseeing activities and rituals as mentioned in the first option. Both options offer a memorable spiritual experience amidst the Himalayas' breathtaking landscapes.

Day 10: Badrinath – Rudraprayag / Srinagar (6 – 7 hrs/160 km )

After breakfast and darshan in the morning, you will check out from your Badrinath hotel and head on a drive to Srinagar/ Rudraprayag via Joshimath. Joshimath is a hill town perched at around 6150 m in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district. In the eighth century, it was built by Adi Guru Sankaracharya. It is Lord Badri ‘s winter home where lord Badri’s idol gets shifted from Badrinath. Visit Narsing Temple on the way to Joshimath. Later you will head for Srinagar/ Rudraprayag. Rudraprayag is situated at the confluence of river river Mandakini and Alaknanda and is a revered site among Hindus. This place is the gateway to Kedarnath and Badrinath. On the way to Rudraprayag, you will visit Karna Prayag and Nand Prayag. On arrival, you will check in to your pre-booked hotel for a delectable dinner and overnight stay.

Day 11: Rudraprayag/Srinagar – Haridwar (6 – 7 hrs/160 kms )

Savor a hearty breakfast in the morning and then you will check out your hotel and head to Haridwar. On the way, you will visit Dev Prayag, Dhari Devi Temple, and Rishikesh. Once you have arrived in Haridwar you will check in at your hotel and have an overnight stay. In the evening you will head to Hari Ka Puri to attend the Ganga Aarti.

Day 12: Haridwar – Dehradun/Delhi

Precaution for Yatra

• Cover your head with Monkey cap or any other woolen clothes while on high altitude to avoid hill-sickness, giddiness etc. at KedarnathandYamunotri.
• Keep on drinking water to avoid dehydration.
• Trek only on hill-side, avoid trekking or standing on valley side, as pony (horse) coming from opposite direction may push you down to the valley which may cause serious casualty.
• Packaged Water is available at every place, use only packaged water or boiled water can be obtained from local tea shop during trekking.

Term and Conditions

• There is no provision of concession to children or senior citizens.
• We reserve the right to postpone the timings of flying subjected to weather, operational or technical issue.
• Weighing at the time of boarding the helicopter is a must, since the company shall not allow boarding in case the total weight exceeds the weight limitation of the helicopter. And, due to the same reason, in case of more than 01 available aircraft, we reserve the right to shuffle passengers between different groups to manage the right weight of helicopters for safe flying in the hills.
• While changing the helicopter at Kedarnath or Guptkashi/Phata/sitapur the waiting time is between 10 mins to 3 hrs. depending on Shuttle slots / weather conditions or technical reasons or ground situations.
• Rescheduling of booking to a next date will be done subject to availability and on payment of 10% of the cost. This will be permitted only if applied 7 days before journey date. In case the rescheduling is requested with less than 7 days to the journey then booking will be treated as cancelled and a fresh booking will be given subject to availability.
• If due to any reasons beyond our control like bad weather conditions, flood, Pandemic, riots, political unrest, bandhs, or any other natural or man-made misfortunes, program will have needed to be changed or extended. The additional expenditure for the same will have to be borne by the passengers directly.
• In case of charter getting cancelled due to bad weather or any other reasons on the date of your travel, the booking will not be revalidated for the next day. Refund as per the refunds/cancellations policy, with no further obligation of Company whatsoever. Any kind of inconvenience caused because of cancellation of flights is beyond the control of the operator. No compensation, reimbursement or arrangements shall be offered in the event of cancellation of a flight.
• Our company shall not be liable for any medical emergency on the ground to the party. Therefore, in your own interest, guests are hereby advised to kindly consult a doctor and get medical check-up done, before commencing the yatra. Medical check-up is mainly required if a guest has any medical suffering/condition.
• In case the journey is not finished within the stipulated time and passengers are not able to visit one or more Dhams due to bad weather conditions/technical reasons then the company will try to visit all places within the stipulated time. Although if this is not possible then the liability of the company will be limited to refund of unutilised sector/s.
• 100% refund shall be applicable in case the entire tour gets cancelled due to any Force Majeure reason, minus flight preparation charges of INR 2,500 Per Person Per Sector and any additional services provided to guests.
• Where bad weather, technical snags or any force majeure reason beyond company control results in the cancellation of the flight being delayed or cancelled, Company will not be liable in any way for the cancelled or delayed flight. However, refund will be given to clients as per the refunds policy. Any kind of inconvenience caused because of cancellation of flights is beyond the control of the operator. No compensation or reimbursement for accommodation, transportation, meals or any other travel expenses done by the guests shall be offered in the event of cancellation of a flight.

Yamunotri is one of the four sites of Char Dham pilgrimage situated in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Yamunotri is the source of River Yamuna and is regarded as the seat of Goddess Yamuna. This is the western most shrine in the Garhwal Himalayas, situated at an altitude of 3293 m atop Bandar punch parvat.

The chief attraction at Yamunotri is the temple devoted to the Goddess Yamuna. It is surrounded by mountains on all sides. The temple was first built by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur in the early 19th century. The temple was damaged in the earth quakes of 1923 and 1982. But it was subsequently rebuilt by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal, who was the ruler of this region. Yamunotri Temple can be reached by 5 km trek from Janki Chatti which is the nearest road point. Janki Chatti , Kharsali , Saptarishi Kund , Barkot and Hanuman Chatti are the other attractions in Yamunotri. Yamunotri also has famous trekking routes, such as Hanuman Chatti – Yamunotri route, Dodi Tal and Janki Chatti.

The temple opens every year on the auspicious day of the Akshaya Tritiya, which generally falls during the last week of April, or early May. The temple closes on the sacred day of Diwali in October / November. Kharsali is the winter home to the idol of goddess Yamuna. The best time to visit Yamunotri is from May to June and September to October.

Gangotri, the origin of the River Ganges, is one of the four sites in the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit in Uttarakhand along with Badrinath, Kedarnath and Yamunotri. It is situated at an altitude of 3100 m in the Garhwal Himalayan Range on the banks of the holy Bhagirathi River. River Ganges originates at Gaumukh in Gangotri Glacier, which is located about 19 km away from Gangotri town. As per legends, Goddess Ganges took the form of a river in order to absolve the sins of King Bhagiratha’s ancestors, after his severe penance. Lord Shiva received River Ganges in his thick hair locks, to reduce the impact of her fierce flow.

Gangotri is famous for its ancient temples and religious significance. The present Ganga Temple at Gangotri was built by a Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa in the early 18th century. Near the temple is located a sacred stone where King Bhagiratha is said to have worshipped Lord Shiva. Surya Kund , Pandava Gufa , Bhaironghati and Gaumukh are the other religious attractions in Gangotri. Gangotri town is the starting point of the Gaumukh , Tapovan , Nandanvan , Vasuki Tal and Gangotri-Kedartal trekking.

Gangotri temple is opened from May and gets closed on the occasion of Diwali festival in Oct / Nov. Gangotri temple remains closed during winters as the region is prone to heavy snowfall. The idol is shifted to Mukhyamath Temple in Mukhba village, 20 km downstream.

Kedarnath is a popular destination for Hindu pilgrims and is one of the four major sites in Uttarakhand known as Chota Char Dham pilgrimage. It lies at an altitude of 3584 m near Chorabari Glacier, the head of river Mandakini. It is the most remote of the four Char Dham sites and is flanked by breathtaking snow-clad peaks. The famous Kedarnath temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and is thronged by thousands of tourists each year. Other than Kedarnath temple, Bhairavnath temple , Chorabari Tal , Shankaracharya Samadhi , Vasuki Tal , Deoria Tal and Ukhimath are the some other religious places near Kedarnath.

Kedarnath can be reached by 14 km steep climb from Gaurikund to the temple of Kedarnath and can be done on foot or on ponies. Ponies or horses are available on rent from Gaurikund. After the flash floods of 2013 which greatly affected the Kedarnath region, the route has been modified. The 14 km trek is now of 21 km which starts from Sonprayag. A general health check-up is done to ensure the safety of the tourists before allowing them to go further after registration. From here a trek of 7 km takes place up to Bhim Bali, while the next halt is at Linchauli at another 7 km. The last halt is the Kedarnath temple after a trek of another 7 km. The original route from Gaurikund runs through Rambara (7 km) – Linchauli (4 km) – Kedarnath (3 km).

The extreme weather condition of Kedarnath prompts the temple to be open only for 6 months from the end of April to the beginning of November. The town receives heavy snowfall during the winter months which makes it uninhabitable. The residents of Kedarnath shift to villages lying at lower altitudes during the winter months while Lord Kedarnath’s Palki is transferred to Ukhimath.

Badrinath is the most important of the four sites of famous Char Dham pilgrimage; the other three being Puri , Dwarka and Rameswaram. It is also visited as part of Chota Char Dham Pilgrimage along with Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri in Himalayan region of Uttarakhand. According to the epic Mahabharata, Badrinath is the site where Nara and Narayana, the dual forms of Vishnu, did meditation. It is also believed that the Pandavas passed through Badrinath on their way to heaven. Legend has it that Sage Vyasa authored Mahabharata at a cave in Mana, which is about 4 km from Badrinath.

Badrinath is famous for its Badrinath Temple that houses Lord Badrinarayan, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The present temple is believed to have been established by saint-philosopher Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. Adi Shankara discovered a Saligram idol of Lord Badrinarayan in the river bed of Alaknanda. He installed this idol in a cave nearby Tapt Kund. It was later shifted to the present temple by the King of Garhwal in the 16th century. Badrinath is also famous for Panch Badri temples, which are Yog Dhyan Badri, Bhavishtya Badri, Adi Badri and Vriddha Badri, along with Badrinath temple. Some of the other attraction of Badrinath includes Tapt Kund , Brahma Kapal , Sheshanetra , Vasudhara Falls , Charan Paduka , Satopanth Lake , Neelkanth and Mana Village . Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Nandaprayag , Vishnuprayag and Pandukeswar are among the other pilgrimage sites on the route to Badarinath.

The best time to visit Badrinath is from May to June and again from September to October. The monsoon months must be avoided as the region is prone to landslides. Tourists are advised not to visit during winters as the region receives heavy snowfall and harsh cold conditions. The Badrinath temple is closed from November to April.

YAMUNOTRI TEMPLE

At a height of 3,291 metres, YAMUNOTRI TEMPLE is located in the western part of the Garhwal Himalayas. The temple was constructed in the 19th century by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur. The temple was rebuilt by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal and is devoted to the river Yamuna, who is symbolised by a silver image that is covered in flowers. Yamunotri Temple is the first destination of 4 Dham Yatra circuit which defines a pious journey to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangorti and Yamunotri. Some people also plan for Gangotri Yamunotri Do Dham Yatra which only includes the journey to Yamunotri and Gangori, the two sources of India’s most holy rivers, Yamuna and Ganga, respectively. Hot springs that are spilling out of the mountain caves are close to the temple. The most significant Kund is the Suryakund. Before puja is done to the god, Divya Shila, a shrine located next to the Suryakund, is worshipped. Reports indicate that chaos is prevalent, with traffic jams lasting for hours on all major routes, including those to Kedarnath and Badrinath.

The Yatra has also seen tragic incidents, with 11 reported deaths so far. Among the deceased, four had underlying health conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. The steep climbs and varying temperatures pose significant health risks, particularly for those with pre-existing conditions. Consequently, health experts are advising potential pilgrims to consult doctors before undertaking the journey.

All the four shrines in Uttarakhand's Chardham Yatra are located at higher Himalayan altitudes of above 3,000 meters, marking very low temperatures and harsh geographical conditions. Pilgrims, especially elderly people, should prepare meticulously before going on this tour. Here, experts advise how to pack your backpack, which foods to carry and what to do when a medical emergency arises.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand): Devotees from every corner of the country are coming for the Chardham Yatra that started in Uttarakhand from May 10. If you are leaving for these four Dhams located in the high Himalayan regions from Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat, Maharashtra or any other corner of the country, then you will have to take special care of many things.

Because, there can be a huge difference in the weather between the city where you live and the places in Uttarakhand where you are going. In such a situation, you will have to pack your backpack keeping in mind both the geographical and weather conditions here.

Rajat, head of operations of Track the Himalaya, a leading organization in trekking and adventure in Uttarakhand, gave information about how travelers should pack their backpack before coming on Chardham Yatra. He said all the four Dhams are at high altitudes of about 3,000 to 3,500 meters on the higher Himalayas. There can be huge fluctuations in temperature during day and night in these Char Dham places.

High Altitude Trekking : Among the four Dhams, Kedarnath and Yamunotri Dham are places where you will have to trek on foot. In Yamunotri, one will have to trek 10 kilometers and in Kedarnath one will have to trek 32 kilometers to and fro. For this you should have a trekking shoe with good grip and socks should also be woolen or warm. Try not to travel in jeans pants. If you have light fit trekking trousers, it will give you more comfort.

You should have warmer clothing both lower and upper. Because, unlike the cities in the plains, you may have to face extreme cold in the high altitude areas. Apart from this, you should have cotton clothing which will be useful in hot areas like Lower Himalayas like Haridwar, Rishikesh and Srinagar.

It is very hot here during the day, but you have to carry a woolen jacket and a heavy jacket with you. A woolen jacket will come in handy when traveling on the road in the evening and when the temperature drops significantly at night. Apart from this, when you will be trekking in Kedarnath Dham and Yamunotri Dham.

You may also have to face snowfall during the journey when a heavy jacket will keep you warm. At the same time, when you reach these high altitude places, you should also keep cap, glasses and gloves with you. They have to be used also. So that, you can avoid the problems caused by cold and your health does not deteriorate.

Buffer stocks of food: Trekking expert Rajat, who was carrying food items and first aid, said that sometimes there will be traffic jams for hours on the way. In such a situation, he has suggested the passengers to keep necessary food items in their backpack. During the yatra, you may not find any restaurant or food items for many kilometers, in such a time you should have food items like dry fruits, fruits and biscuits. It would be better to keep a buffer stock of food for two to three days.

Before starting the journey, whatever hotel booking or any other type of booking, you should confirm them before leaving home. While moving forward on the travel route, remain in constant touch with your hotelier. So that, they remain updated and you do not face problems when you reach there.

Health issues: During the last few years, it has been seen that many people's health deteriorated during the Chardham Yatra, leading to several deaths. There have been 12 deaths so far in the Chardham Yatra which started on May 10. In such a situation, you need to be especially cautious about your health. People often face mountain sickness, which is a very common phenomenon. While travelling from lower altitude to higher altitude, travel intermittently. Acclimatize your body, keep drinking plenty of water and only then proceed further.

Talking to ETV Bharat, senior doctor Vipul Kandwal said that especially the elderly people need to take special precautions regarding their health during the Chardham Yatra. He says that people who have ailments relating to heart, lungs, high blood pressure, diabetes, should go for Chardham Yatra only on the advice of their doctor. When going towards a higher altitude, the supply of oxygen in the body reduces. Due to which there is pressure on the lungs. This pressure also increases on the heart, due to which the chances of heart attack increase.

The doctor said that especially in view of the post Covid scenario, elderly people have to take special care of this. He said that if your health worsens, never ignore it and get yourself checked at your nearest primary health center as soon as possible.

Medical facilities: If your health deteriorates on the Chardham travel route, you can avail of medical facilities. Under the National Health Mission, Uttarakhand Health Department has established 69 health posts i.e. temporary primary health centers (PHC) and a cath lab on the Chardham Yatra route. Of these, 19 health posts have been established in Uttarkashi, 24 in Chamoli and 24 in Rudraprayag. In which more than 100 Swasthya Mitras have been deployed additionally. At the same time, a high standard cath lab has also been established in Srinagar for heart related treatment.

IAS officer Swati Bhadauria, Mission Director of Uttarakhand National Health Mission, said that if the health of any pilgrim coming on the Chardham Yatra route deteriorates, then he can take primary treatment at these health posts on the Yatra route. He said that all these health posts have been established at visible places on the Yatra route, which you can easily find around most of the police check posts.

Uttarakhand CM Dhami Reviews Preparations For Chardham Yatra, Asks Officials, Police To Look After Travel Arrangements

New Delhi: Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday reviewed the Chardham Yatra arrangements at the Secretariat. He directed officials and senior government officials and police to oversee travel arrangements at Ground Zero by road, prioritising the safety of all devotees. 

CM Dhami urged devotees to adhere to their assigned dates for darshan as per their Chardham Yatra registration, and advised them to undergo health checkups and consider weather forecasts before embarking on the pilgrimage, a govenment statement said.

The CM said that the top priority of the state government is that the Chardham Yatra should be safe, and all the devotees should also be healthy and safe, it added.

CM Dhami has instructed that the arrangements for VIP darshan in all four Dhams be postponed until May 31st.

The Chief Minister has directed officials to ensure that devotees participating in the Chardham Yatra are sent for darshan according to the daily capacity set for all four Dhams. He emphasised the need to strengthen the registration system and instructed that devotees should only be allowed to proceed beyond checkpoints if they are registered for the yatra.

Furthermore, the Transport Department, Revenue Department, and Police Department were tasked with jointly conducting checks at checkpoints, and offline registration was ordered to be suspended for the next three days.

CM Dhami Stressed On Strict Checking

CM Dhami stressed on strict checking at entry points of all Chardham routes, as well as in Vikasnagar, Yamuna Bridge area, Dhanaulti, and Suvakholi, ensuring passenger convenience at these locations.

The Chief Minister mentioned about the importance of effectively disseminating information regarding Chardham Yatra arrangements to the public, directing senior government officials to conduct daily media briefings. He stressed the need for all relevant yatra-related information to be promptly provided to the media for public awareness, as per state govenment.

CM Dhami instructed officials to prioritise crowd and travel management throughout the yatra. He specifically tasked the Director General of Police with personally overseeing on-site inspections for traffic and crowd management, delegating responsibility to senior police officers in all four Dhams.

"All officers should discharge their responsibilities as colleagues", CM Dhami said.

CM Dhami underscored the significance of the Chardham Yatra as the lifeline of Uttarakhand and its crucial role in the state's economy. He stressed the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in ensuring the yatra is smooth and accessible, particularly with the increasing number of devotees.

The state government continues to strive for enhancements in yatra systems. Dhami emphasised the need for coordination among districts along the Chardham Yatra routes to bolster arrangements. He urged devotees to prioritise health standards during their spiritual journey through the sacred Dhams of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand.

CM Dhami conducted a virtual meeting with the District Magistrates of Rupradprayag, Chamoli, and Uttarkashi districts to gather information about various Chardham Yatra arrangements and assess any support required from the government. He instructed government and police officials to promptly address any issues raised by the district administration regarding necessary arrangements for the yatra, ensuring swift resolution of problems encountered, as per state govenment.

In the meeting, various officials including Vice President of State Disaster Management Mr. Vinay Rohila, Chief Secretary Mrs. Radha Raturi, Principal Secretary Mr. R. K Sudhanshu, DGP Shri Abhinav Kumar, Secretary Shri R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Mr. Shailesh Bagoli, Mr. Arvind Singh Hanyanki, Mr. Sachin Kurve, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Secretary and Garhwal Commissioner Mr. Vinay Shankar Pandey, Special Secretary Mrs. Riddhim Aggarwal, and Director General Information Mr. Banshidhar Tiwari participated through virtual medium. District Magistrates and SPs of the concerned districts were also present.

Our responsibility to ensure passengers complete journey safely during Chardham Yatra: Uttarakhand DGP

D ehradun ( Uttarakhand ) [India], May 14: Uttarakhand DGP Abhinav Kumar on Tuesday held a meeting with police officials on Tuesday through video conference regarding the arrangements for the Chardham Yatra .

He said that he considered it his and the entire police department's responsibility to ensure that the journey of passengers is completed safely.

After this meeting, DGP Abhinav Kumar spoke to ANI and said that it has been five days since the yatra started and the problems that have come up during this period have been reviewed and discussions have been held to resolve them.

DGP Abhinav Kumar said, "For every passenger coming to the state for the purpose of Chardham Yatra , I consider it my and the entire police department's responsibility to ensure that their journey is completed safely."

DGP Abhinav Kumar said that the Tourism Department has made arrangements for registration for the yatra, and so far more than 25 lakh registrations have been done. He said that in view of the crowd of passengers, all the Superintendents of Police were asked to allow the same number of passengers to travel according to the arrangements of the Dhams, and at the same time, passengers were also appealed to plan their journey on weekdays only.

The DGP said that in view of the large number of passengers, the police have to stop traffic at many places, this is being done for the safety of passengers and local people. Along with this, he said that after talking to the tourism department, LED boards are also being installed at many places so that the passengers who are travelling on that route can get complete information related to the journey.

Earlier, to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the Chardham Yatra , one magistrate each will be deployed in Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi districts. A meeting of top officials was held on Monday on the instructions of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in which the decision was taken.

As of May 11, registration figures indicate a substantial turnout, with over 8.3 lakh devotees registered for Kedarnath and a total of 24.4 lakh registrations for all four Dhams, including Badrinath , Gangotri , and Yamunotri .

The Uttarakhand government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami , deployed three secretary-level officers in the Char Dham area.

Chief Minister Dhami, following extensive discussions with Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, directed the appointment of these officers to oversee travel arrangements in the respective districts falling within the Char Dham area.

The appointed officers include Secretary R Rajesh Kumar for Rudraprayag district, SN Pandey for Chamoli district, and Ranjit Kumar Sinha for Uttarkashi district. Their primary responsibility is to monitor travel arrangements, gather feedback from district magistrates, and ensure a well-organised Char Dham Yatra at the government level. Chief Minister Dhami is also actively involved in overseeing the travel arrangements. He has instructed ministers in charge of the associated districts and Chief Secretary Radha Raturi to maintain continuous monitoring. (ANI)
