Day 1: Nairobi – Solio Game Reserve, Kenya

The adventure of a lifetime awaits you as you embark on a safari tour through East Africa’s spectacular national parks. In Nairobi, we will hold a briefing to discuss the upcoming ten days. You begin your exploration of Solio Game Reserve in the Aberdare Region after meeting your guide. It is thought to be one of the best places in East Africa to see rhinos in large numbers – it is arguably the best private game reserve in the country where rhinos are protected. This is perhaps the best part of it: it is a well-kept secret, so you won’t meet many other tourists in this private reserve during your game drive. Solio has many bird species, as well as lions, buffaloes, and waterbucks, among the beautiful acacia forests. The Rhino Watch Safari Lodge will be your first night’s accommodation on safari. Depending on your luck, you may be able to see Mount Kenya in the distance. Welcome to Kenya!

Accommodation : Rhino Watch Safari Lodge Meals : Lunch, Dinner Included Highlight : Solio Game Reserve, View of Mount Kenya in the distance

Day 2: Solio Game Reserve / Nyeri – Nakuru National Park, Kenya

Breakfast is served early in the morning before departing for Lake Nakuru National Park. Take a moment to stop at Kenya’s highest waterfall, Nyahururu, and watch the water plunging from 72 meters above. As you travel through local villages, you will reach Lake Nakuru, where you will enjoy a game drive in the afternoon. There is a large flamingo population in this paradise for bird watchers, which gives the lake a pink hue depending on the water level and time of year. The Lake Nakuru region is also home to the rare Rothschild’s giraffe and the black and white rhino which are on the endangered list. In just two days time, you will have witnessed more of the wildlife of East Africa than you ever thought possible. When the sun sets, it is time to unwind at your accommodation for the night, the Flamingo Hill Tented Camp.

Accommodation : Flamingo Hill Tented Camp. Meals : Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Included Highlight : Nyahururu – Kenya’s highest waterfall, Lake Nakuru National Park – afternoon game drive

Day 3: Nakuru National Park – Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya

Get ready to be amazed! Today, you will travel to the Masai Mara, a magical place in Kenya. You pass through Lake Naivasha, Kenya’s flower capital, and Mt Suswa, one of Kenya’s inactive volcanoes, as you cross the Great Rift Valley. You will reach one of the most significant wildlife viewing areas in Africa as you drive deeper into the land of the Masai. In the afternoon, you will take your first game drive in the Mara. With the Masai Mara being home to the Big Five and many other wildlife species, you will spend the following days searching for and watching these animals together with your guide. We will be staying at Julia’s River Camp for the next two nights. This is an intimate tent campsite on the banks of the Talek River. You can expect wildlife to be close to you since animals do not adhere to borders.

Accommodation : Julia’s River Camp Meals : Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Included Highlight : Lake Naivasha, Mount Suswa, Great Rift Valley, Masai Mara Game Reserve – afternoon game drive

Day 4: Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya

In the morning, you will set out for a full day of exploration of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Make a stop at the Mara River, if you visit during the Great Migration when thousands of wildebeests and zebras follow the rains and migrate from Tanzania’s Serengeti to Kenya. There is an opportunity to witness a river crossing when the herbivores attempt to cross the river in order to avoid being snatched by a hungry crocodile. What’s great about today is that you have time to observe. There is no need to rush and you can make the most of each moment. You will notice that once the Big Five have been observed, you will then begin to focus your attention on the other animals. Hyenas and cheetahs graze on the savannah, waterbucks and zebras come to the rivers to quench their thirst, and hippos can be seen protecting their sensitive skin from the harsh sun in the murky water. Spend one more night at Julia’s River Camp and share stories around the dinner table.

Accommodation : Julia’s River Camp Meals : Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Included Highlight : Full Day Game Drive in the Masai Mara Game Reserve

Day 5: Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya

A second day of wildlife adventures awaits you in the Mara. As we explore the western part of the reserve today, you will gain a better understanding and experience of the Mara ecosystem. The amount of information you have gained so far about Kenya’s flora and fauna will surprise you. You will be able to see more than beautiful sunsets and majestic lions with the assistance of your guide. You will also understand the context and fragility of their environment. We will stay at a remote camp in Mara West tonight. You can enjoy panoramic views of the Masai Mara from here and remember the wonderful experiences that you have had here, while bush babies leap through the leaves of nearby trees.

Accommodation : Mara West Camp Meals : Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 6: Masai Mara Region – Lake Victoria, Tanzania

It is an early start for your final morning in Kenya. Enjoy one last look at the Mara before you depart for the Tanzanian border at Isebania. You proceed directly to Lake Victoria after clearing immigration. Enjoy your afternoon at leisure along the shores of Africa’s largest lake, where you will also spend the night at the Speke Bay Lodge. Let your mind rest after your adventurous days, take a walk by the lakeshore, visit the local fishing village, or even catch up on your emails to ensure that you can face the days ahead without stress. Relax and enjoy the views of Lake Victoria. Welcome to Tanzania!

Accommodation : Speke Bay Lodge Meals : Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Included Highlight: Lake Victoria

Day 7: Lake Victoria – Serengeti   National Park, Tanzania

In Tanzania, the first morning will be spent canoeing across Lake Victoria. As a local fisherman explains how to catch fish the traditional way, you sail across Africa’s largest lake together. Upon returning to the fishing village, you can admire the catch from the previous evening. Time to venture into the bush for another wildlife encounter. You will arrive at the Serengeti Gate and begin your game drive after a short one-hour drive. The Serengeti hosts the Great Migration of wildebeests and zebras along with the Masai Mara. It is a great opportunity to view these natural spectacles in Tanzania if you missed them in Kenya. There is no denying the fact that Serengeti means “endless plains” in the local language, and you will soon realise why: the open expanse of grassland stretches as far as the eye can see. Despite appearing endless, these plains are dotted with kopjes, large rock formations, and lions’ favourite places for napping. The Kati Kati Tented Camp will be your destination for the evening, when you will arrive late in the afternoon. Located in the middle of the Serengeti, this exclusive and unfenced camp will enable you to experience nature more closely than ever before.

Accommodation : Kati Kati Tented Camp Meals : Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Included Highlights : Canoe Trip across Lake Victoria, Serengeti National Park game drive

Day 8: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

Enjoy a bush breakfast in the Central Serengeti while birds chirp and the sun rises. You will have the opportunity to explore the park with your guide for the remainder of the day. The best way to experience Tanzania’s wildlife is to go right when everyone else goes left. There are large prides of lions living on the Serengeti, lazing under acacia trees that provide shade during the hot afternoons. Be aware of your surroundings and you may spot a leopard feasting on its latest kill on the branches of the trees. Each safari day is unique, and you will be astonished at the new species you see on the eighth day of your great East African safari. Upon returning to Kati Kati Tented Camp, join your fellow guests in front of the “bush TV” and listen to the crackling of the campfire.

Accommodation : Kati Kati Tented Camp Meals : Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Included Highlights: Serengeti National Park

Day 9: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater – Karatu, Tanzania

As you leave the Serengeti this morning, you should take advantage of the cooler temperatures and keep a lookout for more predators – large cats become more active as the weather cools. On your last game drive of your safari, you will enter the world famous Ngorongoro Crater at lunchtime for a spectacular finale to your safari. There are more than 25.000 animals living in this large inactive volcanic caldera in the course of a season. The crater floor is home to large herds of zebras, buffaloes, and prides of lions. Steep and rugged walls of the crater always remain visible, marking the perimeter of this wildlife haven and a truly unique environment. Following the game drive, you continue to Karatu, where you spend the final night of your safari at one of its three superbly situated Tanganyika Wilderness Adventure Lodges.

Accommodation : Tanganyika Wilderness Adventure Lodges. Meals : Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 10: Karatu – Arusha, Tanzania

Your day begins with a leisurely breakfast before making your way to Arusha, where you should arrive around noon. There is no need to spend another night in the city, if you wish to continue with your travel plans. After your exciting excursions in the bush, return home or fly to Zanzibar for a relaxing vacation on the tropical beaches. Contact us for more information!

Meals : Breakfast; Lunch

13 Day Small Group Safari – Best of Tanzania & Kenya

small group safari kenya and tanzania

Click here to watch a video of this safari ...

This 13-day lodge safari is for travellers wanting to experience both Tanzania and Kenya. Starting in Arusha, you experience Tanzania’s safari highlights such as the national parks Tarangire and Lake Manyara, the famous Ngorongoro Crater as well as the vast Serengeti. Via Lake Victoria, you cross into Kenya and continue to the Masai Mara where spectacular wildlife viewing awaits. Round off your safari by exploring the swamps of Amboseli National Park with Mt Kilimanjaro in the background before you end in Nairobi.

Day 1: Arusha - Tarangire National Park

After a short briefing in the morning, your safari will set off towards the Tarangire National Park. This park with its savannah, seasonal swamps and the life-giving Tarangire River is home to huge elephant herds – literally hundreds of animals. Animals gather at the river and besides elephants you should see mongoose, giraffes, bushbucks, hartebeests, dik-diks, waterbucks, warthogs and reedbucks all year round. After an extensive game drive, you will leave the park in the late afternoon and head to the Lake Burunge Tented Camp, where you will spend the night.

Accommodation: Lake Burunge Tented Camp (incl. lunch & dinner, mineral water, activities)

Day 2: Tarangire Area – Lake Manyara National Park – Karatu

You will enjoy breakfast before you leave the Tarangire Area to continue your journey to the Lake Manyara National Park. The park with its shallow alkaline lake is known for its over 400 bird species, primate-filled forests and grassy plains. Apart from elephants, you might also spot giraffes, hippos, wildebeests and impalas while the forests near the lake are teeming with noisy groups of monkeys. After an extensive game drive, you will travel to Karatu in the Ngorongoro highlands. After your arrival, there might be time for an optional walk in the coffee plantations. You will spend the night at one of the three beautifully located Tanganyika Wilderness Adventure Lodges.

Accommodation: One of the three Tanganyika Wilderness Lodges (incl. all meals, mineral water, activities)

Day 3: Karatu – Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti National Park

You will have breakfast at dawn before the 4×4 safari vehicle takes you to the crater rim from where you descend into the crater on an adventurous and steep trail. Down here in the crater you have the possibility of seeing all the animals that can be found in the East African savannah including the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. The Ngorongoro Crater is also one of the best places to see the magnificent but almost extinct black rhino. After an extensive game drive, you will exit the crater in the early afternoon. The journey then continues to the plains of the Serengeti National Park – the most famous park in Tanzania and where the biggest animal migration in the world takes place. Hundred thousands of wildebeests and zebras cross the border from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara in Kenya in search of fresh grass and water, with hungry predators following close behind. You will spend the night at the Kati Kati Tented Camp in the central Serengeti.

Accommodation: Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp (incl. all meals, mineral water, activities)

Day 4: Serengeti National Park

Rise and shine! Up at the crack of dawn, you will be able to see the sunrise over the Serengeti before you join an early morning game drive. Upon your return to the camp, a hearty breakfast awaits. Adventurous guests may choose to experience the Serengeti from the sky and join a hot-air balloon ride followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush. This activity is not included in the tour price and needs to be booked in advance. Guests interested in visiting the visitor centre, are also able to do so. In the afternoon you will enjoy another game drive before returning to the Kati Kati Tented Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park – Lake Victoria

After an early start, you will travel through the Serengeti National Park and on your way out of the park you might spot animals you haven’t seen yet. After leaving the park, the safari continues to Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa and the second largest in the world. The area around Lake Victoria is the most fertile and densely populated region in Tanzania. Here at Lake Victoria, you will have the chance to see another side of Tanzania. Away from the tourists and the masses, you will experience the lives of the local people. The night will be spent at the Speke Bay Lodge.

Accommodation: Speke Bay Lodge (incl. all meals, mineral water, activities)

Day 6: Lake Victoria – Masai Mara Area

After breakfast you will join the local fishermen and a guide on a canoe trip on Lake Victoria. You will see how the locals catch fish and admire the previous night’s catch. After your fishing excursion you will set off on the longest journey of your safari – the trip to the Masai Mara. The road towards the Kenyan border is a long an adventurous one, but it should be worth it as the Mara is reputed to have the highest lion population of all reserves in Africa. Other large cats like leopards and cheetahs also live here and can be spotted all year round, as their sightings are not dependent upon the seasons or the migration. You will overnight in luxury tents at the Mara West Camp on the outskirts of the Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Accommodation: Mara West Camp (incl. all meals, mineral water, activities)

Day 7: Masai Mara Game Reserve

You can look forward to a day dedicated to safari and game viewing. On extensive game drives in your 4×4 safari vehicle you will explore the Mara Triangle, located in the north-western part of the Masai Mara. Far stretching grassland plains, dotted by acacia forests, dominate the landscape. You will take a trip to the Mara River, the greatest hurdle for the wildebeests and zebras on their yearly trek. At the end of October and the beginning of November, an incredible scene is set when the river swells to almost bursting levels and tens of thousands of animals prepare to cross it, knowing that possible death awaits them – as crocodiles are hiding just below the water’s surface. It can be a gruesome sight. At other times of the year, hippos, hungry crocodiles and other animals can also be seen near the river. In the late afternoon, as the shadows start to grow longer, you return to your accommodation and spend another night at the Mara West Camp.

Day 8-9: Masai Mara Game Reserve

The following two days will be spent on game drives in the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Together with your guide you can search for the Big Five. You are in no rush, so you have enough time to enjoy all the wonderful moments which can make your safari a magical experience. The Mara is home to many other interesting animals too, such as Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, elands and Coke’s hartebeests. Not often seen outside Kenya are the Masai giraffe, roan antelope and the nocturnal bat-eared fox. The reserve also has over 470 bird species including about 60 raptor species. You will spend two nights at the Mara Legends Camp inside the Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Accommoda tion: Mara Legends Camp (incl. all meals, mineral water, activities)

Day 10: Masai Mara Game Reserve – Nairobi

After breakfast you will leave the bush for the bustling capital of Nairobi. Reaching the city in the late afternoon, there will be enough time to relax at your accommodation. Dust-off from your previous adventures, take a refreshing dip in the pool or simply lean back and rest ahead of your next safari experiences. In the evening, you enjoy dinner together with your fellow travellers at the famous nearby Carnivore restaurant (own expense). You spend the night at the Tamarind Tree Hotel.

Accommodation: Tamarind Tree Hotel (incl. breakfast & lunch, mineral water, activities)

Day 11-12 Nairobi – Amboseli National Park

Leaving the busy city, your journey takes you to the Amboseli National Park close to the Tanzanian border. This park is famous for iconic images of elephant herds on the plains with the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro in the background. We hope for good weather so you can see this scene for yourself. Apart from herds of elephants (sometimes as many as 500 animals), you might also see lions, leopards and the rest of the Big Five. Looking out from Observation Hill, you will see buffaloes, hippos and water birds frolicking in the swamps below. You have the remainder of the day as well as the whole next day to explore the Amboseli National Parks on game drives. You are in no rush and can look forward to many exciting wildlife encounters. You will be surprised about how much you have learned from your guide in the past few days about flora and fauna. The Ol Tukai Lodge with its lovely carvings and African art is your home for two nights.

Accommodation: Ol Tukai Lodge (incl. all meals, mineral water, activities)

Day 13: Amboseli National Park – Nairobi

On route to the park gate, you go on one last game drive. Then slowly but surely, your wonderful safari comes to an end. With many fantastic memories and experiences, you return to Nairobi. Your guide will bring you to the airport or your hotel in the city to say good-bye and hopefully, until next time.

End of Safari.

Small group safari Tanzania feedback

A very efficient and friendly service provided by Arno – the booking process was seamless. All information provided was very clear and helpful. The itinerary was a good mix and staying in Serengeti for two nights made for a more relaxing trip. The lenght of tour for us was ideal. We believe the trip was well priced for the overall package.

ON TANZANIA'S FAMOUS NORTHERN SAFARI CIRCUIT - THE CLASSIC SAFARI DESTINATIONS

On Tanzania’s northern safari circuit, you can discover the Big Five, incredible landscapes and stay at personal camps and lodges. Classic safari destinations await you: From the plains of the Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Crater and the Tarangire National Park, dotted with Baobab trees and home to many elephants. Thanks to our sister company in Kenya, we offer small group safaris as crossing-border trips to Kenya as well.

The most popular time to experience a Tanzanian safari is during the dry season from June to October. Temperatures are pleasant, humidity levels are low, and the chance of rain is minimal. It is the perfect season to witness how vast numbers of prey congregate near rivers and water holes, which encourages predators to base themselves in these areas. However, it is also a busy time on the Northern Circuit. For a more intimate experience with fewer tourists and vehicles around, we recommend travelling during the low and shoulder season months.

Baobab during the dry season

June to late October & December to February Best time for wildlife sightings; book early

Tanzania experiences a long dry season from June until the end of October and a shorter dry period from January to February. Both are superb times to travel to Tanzania as all the national parks will be easily accessible. Not only are they the best time for a safari, but thanks to the dry weather these two periods are also a great time to experience a tropical beach retreat on the Zanzibar Archipelago. Since it is the most popular time to visit Tanzania, expect to see more safari vehicles in the popular parks on the Northern Circuit.

Green season in Tarangire National Park

Rainy Season

April, May, November Ideal to see a lusciously green Tanzania and fewer other visitors

This is the season when the landscapes turn green, the sky is clear, and the light is incredible. It occurs thanks to two rainy seasons. The long rains arrive from March to May and the short rains, which are less predictable, happen in November and December. Despite the afternoon thunderstorms, it is a great time to visit Tanzania, because the northern parks remain accessible, the landscapes are incredibly beautiful and there are fewer visitors.

GREAT EXPERIENCES AT A SMALLER PRICE

Our intimate group safaris offer nature lovers, both young and old, the opportunity to experience an authentic safari with like-minded people at a very competitive price. If you want to find out more, browse our small group safaris in Tanzania below.

Every part of a safari is an experience to savour. On our small group safaris, you will be welcomed as a guest, not just a room number.

What to expect on a small group safari in Tanzania

Advantages of a small group tour.

Rather than feel like a mass market tourist, we want you to feel like an individual traveller. From the point of your enquiry to the end of your safari, our goal is for you to experience this ethos.

We understand the importance of disconnecting from the fast-paced world of urban living, to experience nature in an authentic way. We created our small group safaris so that you can experience a Tanzanian safari with all of your senses.

We achieve this by limiting the size of our groups to seven people. But did you know that if only two travellers book a group tour, that safari will still go ahead? Plus, our guides are not only knowledgeable but skilled in allowing each guest to get the most out of their safari. Best of all you get to share the cost of this intimate experience with your travel companions and travel at a fantastic price – getting back much more in return than you ever imagined.

What do you see on small group safaris in Tanzania?

Tanzanian safaris transpire on three circuits. The more remote Southern and Western Circuits, where you can see incredible wildlife numbers on private safaris . And the popular Northern Circuit, which is home to some of Tanzania’s most spectacular national parks. Due to the close proximity of northern parks, our group safaris explore this area. To see the southern and western national parks, book a private trip.

The Northern Circuit has two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. One is the vast Serengeti National Park, home to stunning and diverse wildlife all year-round; and the second is the incredible Ngorongoro Crater, a spectacular inactive volcano. Other protected areas include Tarangire National Park, an elephant lover’s paradise; and Lake Natron, a soda lake that turns pink in the dry season and hosts ~2.5 million breeding flamingos.

Those hoping to make it to the top of Africa’s highest mountain could consider one of our group treks up Mount Kilimanjaro .

All these parks are accessed from Arusha’s Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where you will be collected and driven to your first destination.

Tanzania Shared Group Safaris

When going on a Tanzania safari, you can either join a group tour or book a private safari. Being part of a group can be a lot of fun, especially when you’re a single traveler. Groups can be small (up to six people) or larger. Even large groups are often split up in smaller groups occupying a maximum of six to eight people per vehicle. Every vehicle will have a knowledgeable driver-guide. If the group is split up, a head guide or tour leader might move between vehicles throughout the trip. You’ll have game drives together and all meals are shared. Single travelers might have an opportunity to share accommodation to avoid the single supplement.

5 Questions About Tanzania Group Safaris

What are the pros and cons of a group safari in Tanzania?

“When deciding whether to go on a group safari in Tanzania, it’s good to be aware of the pros and cons before making your choice. The main consideration is arguably one of budget. If you are a single traveler or part of a couple, joining a group will be cheaper than booking a private safari. Some of the costs on safari are shared, for example the guide fees and the vehicle. An operator might also decide on a smaller profit margin per person when putting together group tours. Many people enjoy the social element of a group tour, especially if the alternative is traveling alone. Some group tours come with a tour leader as well as a local guide. Their task is to make sure everything runs smoothly, and that all your needs are looked after. In some cases, the tour leader might bring their own expertise to the safari, such as photography or bird watching. This adds value for those who share that interest. The main negative of a Tanzanian group safari is that you’ll have to fit around set dates, and that you won’t have any flexibility in the program.”

What is the maximum group size recommended for a safari?

“The ideal group size is one that fits into one vehicle, so six to eight people. Having said that, a tour consisting of two or three vehicles (up to 18 people) should be fine as well. Independent of group size, most safari packages in Tanzania are conducted in 4x4 vehicles with a pop-up roof. The terrain doesn’t really allow for larger vehicles. These vehicles typically take up to six guests in three rows. At a push they sometimes take an extra guest in the front seat. Customized stretch vehicles have an extra row and can take up to eight people. Larger group sizes are usually split up over more vehicles. With these seating arrangements, everybody gets a window seat. There are advantages of joining a small group tour. The logistics at check-in and check-out are less chaotic, and less time is spent getting everybody together at various stops or briefings. A smaller group size allows the operator to choose smaller lodgings, which have a different feel to big hotels. The group tours described above differ from one other type of tour conducted in big converted overland trucks. These mostly aim for young clients on a tight budget. Participants might have camp duties, and camping tends to be very basic.”

Are there specialized group safaris for bird-watchers and photographers?

“Aside from general group safaris, specialized tours are also on offer, the most popular aimed at bird-watchers and photographers. For people with a particular interest, a targeted tour is an excellent option. Such tours often have expert leaders sharing their experience. Bird-watching tours will usually be led by an ornithologist with experience in local conditions, while photography tours might enjoy the expertise of a professional photographer. The choice of destinations, the duration of each stay, as well as the best time to be out and about will be designed with these interests in mind. Even professional photographers and very good birders benefit from these tours. Aside from the local expertise of the tour leaders, most individuals delight in sharing a tour with like-minded people. Such a group can be highly productive in helping you achieve your goals, whether it is ticking off a long list of birds or taking amazing photographs.”

Is there a minimum age for a group safari in Tanzania?

“Some group tours do have a minimum age. The main reason is that children might become a burden on the group. Not all travelers are child-friendly, and having young children in the group might create friction. It might also be that age restrictions apply to some of the lodges you’ll stay at, or to the activities you’ll undertake. That said, if your children have successfully been on safari before and you know they will do well in the group environment, there is no reason not to take them on a group safari, age limitations permitting. However, if you intend to take small children on a first safari, it might be better to book a private tour, which will give you more flexibility to cater to their needs. A safari can be a wonderfully enriching experience for children, but as their attention span is relatively short, a Tanzanian group safari might just be too demanding for them.”

How full will the safari vehicles be on a group safari?

“How full the safari vehicle will be will depend on your operator and you should check this prior to booking. The group size of a safari is important, but even more important is the number of people in a vehicle when on a game drive. And most important for the best wildlife viewing is that all guests have a window seat on a game drive. There are two types of group safari, a road safari or a fly-in safari. If you travel by road, your vehicle for the trip is also your game-drive vehicle. These are usually pop-up-roof 4x4 vehicles, and they can usually seat six or eight people in three or four rows (which means that everybody gets a window seat). The operators will usually try to fill the vehicle, but if they don’t have enough bookings, they might still run the tour with a vehicle at half capacity. This will then give you a lot of extra space. If you book a fly-in tour, your group will be flown around from park to park where you’ll probably be picked up in open-sided 4x4 vehicles. These vehicles usually take up to 10 passengers (three rows of three people and the front seat). That means that not everybody will have a side seat when at full capacity. The lodges use their discretion in how to fill up the game-drive vehicles, and your party or group might have to share a vehicle with other guests. However, chances are that they will allocate a vehicle for your group. So you might be sharing the 10-seater with only six or eight people. Many top lodges will not fill up their vehicles to full capacity, but try to give everybody a side seat (two people per row). It is a good idea to clarify these arrangements before booking a tour.”
