It was a cold rainy April night, but Matt did an awesome job guiding our group through the cemetery, teaching us how to use divining rods, and how to use paranormal devices to communicate with ghosts at the Ryan home. My husband and I would do it again and I'll tell friends to open their minds and enjoy a great evening tour! Note the red orb at the upper left of the photo. This was most likely a ghost not so happy to have us visit.

I had never been on a ghost tour before. It was a lot of fun. Tour guide gives you a brief description of haunted Galena and then you're shuttled to a haunted mansion and cemetery. I'd recommend for family's especially. Try and go on a nice day as you will be outside a bit. I would do again.

This is very fun. The speaker Matthew was very well spoken. He did a great job and we found orbs!!! Little Tokyo. We travelled to three bars and found stories. Very good excercize

The ghost tour was wonderful and the guide was very entertaining. The stop at the civil war era graveyard yielded a photo we still can't explain. The graveyard was fenced off so nobody could be inside the fence and we saw nobody. We shot a photo into the darkness and later discovered we had captured what appeared to be a human form. Upon closer examination there are some characteristics of a soldier including a sword and stripes on the arm...very creepy. See the photos to see what we captured!

Our tour guide Matt was great. Very interesting stories and a spooky atmosphere. Would recommend this tour to anyone staying in the area. I even caught a ghost in a picture. The face of what I beleieve to be of an injuried Civil War solider is in the reflection of this mirror...

With our kids being 9 and 12 years old, we were looking for something light and fun...something with a bit of history and mystery. Local library historian, Steve, more than delivered. He was enthusiastic, knowledgable, and a bit corny. He was perfect! We loved that the tour was on foot, that the price was reasonable ($15 per adult and kids free), and that the stories of "ghost-like experiences" were just right for our kids. A must 90 minutes after dinner on a gorgeous night in Galena.

The tours meet inside the DeSoto Hotel lobby area and you must pay in cash for the tour. Our guide for the night was Steve. Steve works at the local library and helps patrons with historical research, so he gets to hear a lot of ghost stories. The tour is a walking tour that winds its way around several blocks in town and even goes up the hill slightly to Bench street, so be prepared to walk. Steve mixes the history of the town with assorted ghost sightings and stories. He will even show you areas that were used to film "Field of Dreams". To round off the tour you get to go back inside the DeSoto for a little building history and the ghost stories there. One story which I found to be very striking is the "lady in black" especially since the hole was found in the wall last year after the flood. That is very eerie as that the spot she always disappears into. Remember the show "If Walls Could Talk"? A final stop in a quiet dark room to sit around a table and talk about our experiences if you wish, and the importance of learning the history of places. All in all it was definitely worth the money for the history, ghost stories and the entertainment. It was a fun evening and I would do it again just to hear the stories.

The tour was very cool, historically educational, and the tour guide was very nice. We could have gone in one of the busses, but wanted a more personal experience. It was worth it. Don't expect to go walking into a haunted building and trying to communicate with the dead. It's not one of those tours. Had a nice conversation with the gentleman afterwards and he generally loves doing the tours and hearing about people's experiences. So, if you love learning history, interesting facts, and aren't one of those easily distracted tools (like the only 2 people to give this tour a bad rap), I highly recommend it.

Spent the weekend in Galena and decided to do the ghost tour. It was convenient as we were staying in the DeSoto Hotel and simply had to walk outside. However, we soon found out that our hotel was haunted, and that the room we were staying in was the epicenter for ghostly activity! Fortunately, nothing out of the ordinary occurred during our stay. Steve had us enthralled throughout the tour, and did an excellent job of relaying his knowledge of the town and its spooky history. It was a great way to see the town in a different light - highly recommended.

I was reading the reviews earlier from 2011 & those people have NO IDEA what the point of the tour was.... It was a little of history mixed with mystery! The tour guide was Steve Repp & he has a lot of awesomeness! He was funny and very knowledgeable about Galena, this tour had 10 people. I went on another ghost tour that was way more expensive & it sucked; I don't want to tell you which one, because I don't know if this post will be removed or not. This tour was about $20 less & it was a way better tour. See everywhere you go in Galena they tell you the same history and it gets boring, and that is why I went to this tour by myself; my friend didn't want to hear the same information we heard at every attraction. I was surprised because this tour was very different, Steve gave us interesting facts that I haven't heard yet and it was mixed with ghost stories. At the end of the tour we all sat around in a slightly dark room and heard more chilling stories from Steve, because he has the ability to research anything/everything working at the library with the historical department. Of course he wanted anyone else in the group to share, but no one spoke up. I took a lot of pictures from the tour, but I haven't had the chance to look at them to see if I caught anything paranormal on them. Either way paranormal caught on camera or not this tour was fun. I was going to go see Steve at the library today, BUT I had to leave unexpectedly :( I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TOUR!!!! The guide makes the tour even better too! Agree with previous poster. Waste of 60 mins. We left early. No mention of ghosts on this tour. We felt there was false advertising involved. The tour guide left making a killing!

We went on this tour after our Annie Wiggins ghost tour was unexpectedly cancelled. It was possibly the most boring 90 minutes of my life. Our tour guide had no enthusiasm at all. The tour itself included maybe 2 stories about ghosts, with the rest of the tour being about the history of the town, walking outside, looking at architecture, poorly executed jokes, and the guide talking about the movie "Field of Dreams." Avoid at all costs. I felt thoroughly ripped off. The worst ghost tour I have ever been on.

Offering a variety of ghost tours, the Haunted Galena Tour Company is the most well-known ghost tour company in Galena. Their most popular tour, The Haunted Galena Ghost Walk, offers an inexpensive way to explore the haunted history of our town, costing just $24 per person and lasting 90 minutes. This tour does not take place in the winter months and will begin again on Saturday, April 20th, but their Spirits and Spirits Tour, which tours three haunted locations (while enjoying three specialty drinks), takes place nearly every Saturday of the year.

Matthew’s Haunted Pub Crawl offers just one tour, but it is a pub crawl that will be most enjoyable as you “drink spirits amongst the spirits” (their words!) Lasting approximately 3 hours, participants visit 2 to 3 haunted pubs, and if you aren’t a drinking person, it’s ok. You are still encouraged to participate in the tour and learn the history of our town, as the hosts use ghost equipment in an effort to contact the spirits.
