El Tour de Tucson is now preparing to host the 41st year for what we think is one of the premier bicycling events in the country.  We hope you participate in this year’s event on November 23, 2024.   You won’t be alone given that annually over 9,000 cyclists participate in the renowned and popular event with distances from 102 miles to family fun rides of 1 mile!

Did you know that El Tour de Tucson enables nonprofit, charitable agencies to raise funds for their respective organizations?   Learn about their programs and sign up to ride on their teams here.  Since 1983, Perimeter Bicycling events have raised nearly $121 million for local and international charitable organizations.

The Routes & Start Times

Perimeter Bicycling and El Tour de Tucson are thrilled to bring this world class event to downtown Tucson .  El Tour de Tucson was recognized by USA TODAY as the country’s Top Road Cycling Event.  All Rides/Routes start and finish at the Tucson Convention Center and the surrounding area.

• The Century (7:00 am start) 102 Mile
• 5K Run/Walk (7:15 am start) 3.1 Mile, certified 5K run/walk
• The FUN Rides! (8:00 am start) 3 Mile / 1 Mile
• The Metric Century (9:00 am start) 62 Mile/100 Kilometer
• The Half Metric Century (10:00 am start) 32 Mile/50 Kilometer

The El Tour Expo & Fiesta will be at the newly renovated Tucson Convention Center exhibition hall and surrounding grounds.  Most of the activities including the live music, food trucks, beer garden and some exhibitors will be outdoors!

Bike Patrol

The mission of Perimeter Bicycling’s Bike Patrol program is to promote safety, provide assistance, encouragement, and support for the participants of Perimeter events.

Patrollers offer mechanical assistance, first aid as needed and encouragement to successfully finish the ride. 

Platinum Designation

Platinum cyclists are those in the 102 mile distance with extensive experience in riding in a pack/peloton. Cyclists must meet specific criteria to earn platinum designation and must attend a special meeting.  Visit the Platinum Designation link for full details, including meeting times, how to get the pass required to enter the platinum corral on ride day, etc.

Parking Options

The move to the new location at the Tucson Convention Center has an abundance of nearby parking for individuals and well as team vans or large vehicles. There are two large parking garages on property as well as a large surface parking lot to the west of the Tucson Convention Center.  There are also several city/county/private garages and lots within a block or two of the start/finish line.  

Free and secure bike valet is available at the finish line on Saturday as part of the EL TOUR experience, complementary as part of your entry.

Each year we recognize riders that have achieved, inspired and encouraged cyclists . 

Rules are created to keep the playing field level for all participants. Violation of any rule may result in disqualification or time penalties. click here  to review rules

Bug Fest, Kids fishing, and Kids to Park Day among things to do this weekend

It's a fun weekend for families in El Paso.

Families can take them fishing at Ascarate Park, where the Ascarate Fishing Club will lend them poles. At the El Paso Zoo, the Bug Fest returns with lots of interesting insects to learn about.

In Northeast El Paso, a new hiking group is planning an outdoor event at Chuck Heinrich Park.

The popular groups, Flans y Pandora, will be in concert this weekend at the El Paso County Coliseum.

More concerts are coming up later in the month, including Mon Laferte, a Chilean-Mexican musician and singer.

Celebrate Kid to Parks Day

The group, We Hike, will have its inaugural event, Kid to Parks Day, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Chuck Heinrich Memorial Park located at Officer Andrew Barcena Drive. The event will have music, games, hikes, crafts, tabling and raffle prizes. There will be community awareness on health and wellness, such as hiking, biking, walking preparation and preparedness.

Flans and Pandora back on tour

Pandora and Flans are on an Inesperado Tour 2024 and will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the El Paso County Coliseum, 4100 E. Paisano Drive. Tickets, ranging from $44 to $192, plus fees, are available at Ticketmaster.

Bug Fest returns to El Paso Zoo

It's all about bugs at the Bug Fest, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19, at the El Paso Zoo. The fest will include bug cooking demos and insect games.

Sponsored by Truly Nolen, Bug Fest will be humming with bugs and insects, from spiders, scorpions, and crickets to Madagascar hissing cockroaches. Visitors can get close and personal with these creepy critters in a large bug room while learning about the importance of bugs in the ecosystem. Bug Fest provides an opportunity to learn about the different types of bugs, their habitats and their behaviors.

Kid Fish Derby

The Ascarate Fishing Club will hold a free kid's fishing tournament at Ascarate Park on Saturday, May 18, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration will be from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. The derby is for ages 3 to 16. Parents will need an ID to register. Bait and poles will be provided to registered children. There is a limit of 200 kids.

Mon Laferte to kick off tour in El Paso

Chilean singer-songwriter Mon Laferte will kick off her 2024 tour in El Paso with a show at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, at the El Paso County Coliseum. Tickets are $84, plus fees, available at the Coliseum Box Office and Ticketmaster.

Cool Canyon Nights

Prime Rocks will perform Thursday, May 23, at Cool Canyon Nights free concert at McKelligon Canyon. Gates open at 6 p.m.

Mark Chesnutt

Country singer Mark Chesnutt will bring his honky-tonk classics like "Too Cold at Home" to the Inn of the Mountain Gods in Mescalero Saturday, May 25. The concert will be at 6 p.m. Tickets, ranging from $25 to $65, plus fees, are available at Ticketmaster.

El Paso Water Lantern Festival

The El Paso Water Lantern Festival returns to Ascarate Park from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25.

Tickets are $35 and up, depending on when purchased, and on sale at https://www.waterlanternfestival.com/elpaso.php . The ticket allows people to get a lantern to design and put in the water with an LED candle. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. The launch will be 7:30 p.m.

2024 New Mexico Wine Festival in Las Cruces

The 2024 New Mexico Wine Festival will occur during Memorial Day weekend, May 25-27, at the Southern New Mexico State Fairgrounds in Las Cruces. Hours will be noon to 6 p.m. daily. The wine festival features over 200 wine vendors, numerous food booths, over 50 artisan vendors and entertainment, including Latin and country rockers.  Any-day tickets are $30 through May 24 and $35 effective May 25.

CAJICÁ, Colombia – Al escocés Sandy Scott le sienta muy bien el Club El Rincón de Cajicá. El año pasado, en su primera visita a esta sede, hizo un hoyo en uno en la primera ronda y terminó de tercero en solitario en el Inter Rapídisimo Golf Championship. Aprovechando su buen momento, con top 10 consecutivos en los últimos tres eventos del PGA TOUR Americas, esta tarde regresó al torneo con una ronda de 8-bajo par 64, libre de bogeys. Con ese score inició este sexto y último torneo del Swing Latino como líder absoluto.

El jugador de 25 años tiene un golpe de ventaja sobre el argentino Abel Gallegos y el canadiense Matthew Anderson, quienes hicieron 7-bajo par 65 jugando en horas de la mañana. Para Gallegos, quien entró al field por la clasificación del lunes, este fue un prometedor debut en el Tour, mientras para Anderson, número uno del ranking de la Fortinet Cup, esta fue una ratificación de sus grandes condiciones esta temporada.

A dos golpes del líder, con rondas de 6-bajo par 66 y jugando también por la tarde, el cuarto lugar se lo reparten el chileno Gabriel Morgan Birke y el estadounidense Hayden Shieh. El top 10 lo completan siete jugadores que hicieron 67 golpes. Entre ellos figuran el costarricense Paul Chaplet y el argentino Andrés Gallegos.

A esta temprana altura del torneo, Ricardo Celia es el mejor de 11 colombianos en el field. El barranquillero inició con una ronda de 3-bajo par 69 que lo tiene empatado en el puesto 28, a cinco golpes del líder.

“Me encanta este lugar”, dijo Scott recordando el total de 17-bajo par que lo llevó a terminar a solo dos golpes del ganador en 2023, cuando el torneo era parte del PGA TOUR Latinoamérica. “Me gusta el nivel de estrategia que este campo demanda y debo decir que te da muchas opciones en diferentes hoyos. Siento que puedo utilizar la estrategia para tomar tiros en lugares en los que otros jugadores pueden ser más conservadores. Hay muchas formas de jugar este campo y me tengo confianza en la forma en que lo juego”.

Este graduado de Texas Tech University que dio el salto al profesionalismo en 2022 inició la tarde embocando un putt de cuatro metros y medio para birdie en el 10 y de seguido hizo dos birdies más al 11 y al 12. Después bajó el 16 y por la vuelta del 1 aceleró su paso con águila en el 2, en donde pegó madera-3 y hierro-6 para embocar un putt de 11 metros.

“Hoy mi velocidad en los greens estuvo bastante bien y siento que mis putts asustaron el hoyo en la mayoría de mis intentos. Fue un muy buen día en los greens”, agregó Scott, quien este viernes saldrá a defender la punta saliendo por el tee del 1 a las 7 a.m.
