Kevin Hart Reality Check Tour Review: It’s Like He Never Left

Kevin Hart is back in the UK for his first appearance in 4 years and it’s like he never left. Here’s our Kevin Hart Reality Check tour review.

Kevin Hart Reality Check Review

The question that was on the UK audience’s lips was, could Kevin come back and deliver? It took about 60 seconds for Kevin to answer that question with a resounding yes.

After a few more movies under his belt since his last visit in 2018, the Reality Check tour is a fine return to form for Kevin in front of a UK audience but before I dive into Kevin’s show I want to give a big shoutout to the Plastic Cup Boyz as they absolutely smashed it in the warm-up show before Kevin took to the stage.

Joey Wells, Spank Horton and Na’im Lynn all had similar topics of conversation. Sex, women and growing older were all topics on the agenda but all delivered it in their own wonderful way.

Joey certainly warmed the crowd up as he was commenting on the fact that the show was running 15 minutes late and then worked it into his whole act, if that was ad-libbed or not I’ll never know but that impressed me!

Spank Horton certainly focused his jokes on getting older, his humour was more dry in its delivery but I enjoyed it. I’d have enjoyed it even more if it wasn’t for two idiots on the front row talking throughout the entire set.

kevin hart reality tour reviews

Please note that the start time on the tickets is when the Plastic Cup Boyz take to the stage and not Kevin. Each supporting act had a 20-minute set with Kevin taking to the stage an hour after the event starting time.

Na’im Lynn absolutely blew me away. How he delivered his lines and mixed them up with the perfect facial expressions and even threw in some self-deprecating humour I certainly warmed to his act more than the other two.

They all smashed it in their own individual styles but I certainly gravitated towards Na’im and out of the three I’d certainly want to see his set longer, a real talent.

Kevin took to the stage and Manchester Arena was deafening with applause. The second he opened his mouth to deliver lines about cosmetic surgery he couldn’t even compose himself to deliver it. The whole crowd laughed with it, if you’re still laughing at your own jokes this deep into a tour then you know they’re funny!

Don’t worry little snowflakes, this show is for you too but that culture was touched upon by the previous three acts and Kevin just embellished on areas a little bit. As always Kevin spoke about his family and friends and experiences and it’s those relatable experiences that gravitate the audience to him.

Everyone can relate to a situation that Kevin is discussing. We may not have the money or the fancy jets to go with it but we can all relate to that human interaction and human struggle.

Some absolute gold about a certain Denny’s news story, plastic surgery to improve height, his brothers imaginary dog and even a story about a black lives matter protest were key highlights for me. Crying into my arm hoping that Kevin doesn’t see me in pieces and make me laugh even more sort of crying.

We were front row, for my first-ever Kevin Hart gig. A man whose films I’ve been reviewing for y ears, a man whose stand-ups I’ve only seen on a screen that I’ve reviewed, audiobooks I’ve reviewed and now for the first time he was right in front of me. As close as you could get, the best seats in the damn house and I loved it!

What I loved, even more, was that there were no mobile phones in sight. Before you enter the arena you’re given a pouch to put your phone in and it’s locked. You can’t get into that bag no matter how hard you try (unless you have sharp scissors).

For an entire evening, no phones going off, no one in front of you recording or distracting you with screens. You were present, in the moment and it was a beautiful thing to be a part of.

Kevin Hart Episode 6 Don't F**KThis Up

The only downside to that was that when exiting the arena there was only around 4 people with the devices needed to unlock the phone cases. Four people Vs 21,000 adults wanting their phones back is absolutely horrific planning! They need to sort that out immediately, people were ripping open their cases, taking the cases home and all sorts, it was mayhem!

Kevin’s strengths as a performer relate his audience to the material. He reenacts the scenes but rarely keeps his composure (he must be a joy to work with on set) and it makes the show even more endearing and hilarious.

A story about a woman throwing faeces at a barista is a funny story on its own but it’s how Kevin steps into the shoes of the story and places us there right next to him. It’s a talent and it’s why the man is where he is today, acting and comedy blend with perfect timing (and sometimes composure although it was difficult) and it’s a joy to see it in person.

A whole audience laughed and for one evening we were one, all together, all family (except those two talking idiots next to me, they’re ex-communicado in my book).

Zero F**ks Given was a show Kevin did in lockdown in his home and those jokes whilst great treaded somewhat lightly and didn’t have the same effect as shows gone by in my opinion. Reality Checks certainly checks us back into the Kevin Hart we know and love.

Don’t get me wrong, Zero F**ks Given was a great show but back in front of an audience (a big audience) is where Kevin thrives.

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart

Reality Checks is not a celebration of comedy, it’s a celebration of family, friendship and togetherness and we’re all there as one enjoying the show. It really is like he never left.

I can die happy now I’ve finally seen the man in person and what a way to see him. Smack bang at the front. How did we get the tickets you ask? We used the presale link that Kevin adds to his official website and we managed to get them even earlier than the normal presale link.

If there’s one bad thing I’d say about the tour it’s that meet and greets aren’t included in the package. Paying £400+ in some cases for a tote bag, poster (unsigned) and some other goodies just isn’t worth it whatsoever.

I hope Kevin brings back meet-and-greet packages one day, for me that was the only disconnect Kevin had to his audience the entire time with this UK tour.

I’m sure there are many a reason why it didn’t happen on this UK tour and it’s a shame, it is what it is, but one day I do hope that changes.

Kevin Hart: Reality Check Review – The king is coming for his crown

Kevin Hart: Reality Check Review - The king is coming for his crown

This review of the Peacock film Kevin Hart: Reality Check does not contain spoilers.

Between 2009 and 2020, Kevin Hart released over seven stand-up comedy specials while doing two full tours across the world. Of course, Hart didn’t stop working between 2020 and 2023; he was making hit movies left and right. However, after four years of not being on a worldwide tour, Hart returned to the stage for the Reality Check Tour . And after a three-year hiatus, Hart is set to return to the stage for his eighth stand-up comedy special but his first for Peacock , Kevin Hart: Reality Check .

Kevin Hart: Reality Check review and plot summary

Reality Check sees Kevin Hart hit the stage to talk about his ever-growing family, his father’s ability to give great nicknames and his feelings about Black Twitter.

The special kicks off with an elaborate opening with Kevin being driven to the arena, and he hits the stage with a baseball bat in his hand. Of course, the bat is to “protect” himself in case someone tries to hit the stage like they did with Chappelle. He mentions that he is about to tell jokes and for the audience to unclench their butt cheeks and enjoy the ride.

Hart opens the show by talking about plastic surgery and how it has changed over the years, from making fun of Lebron for growing hair overnight to someone taking fat out of their back and adding it to his legs to make him taller. A strong opening monologue from Hart sets the tone early.

As mentioned, Hart hadn’t done a special in over three years, and what I loved about this special was the fact it was reminiscent of the old Kevin Hart, the joke writer who didn’t care about who he might offend or what might come from one of his jokes. Hart never really crossed many lines over the years, so this felt like a refreshed Kevin Hart with a chip on his shoulder.

Nobody on this planet is as good on stage as Kevin Hart. From his hand gestures to his voices to his facial expressions, it’s truly incredible how he elevates each of his jokes with these mannerisms. Another thing he does perfectly is the callbacks to his jokes from earlier on the show — heck, his callbacks to his past specials are fantastic. His on-point joke-writing skills allow him to intertwine things that shouldn’t make sense.

Is Reality Check good or bad?

In 2023 we’ve seen some heavy-hitting stand-up specials from some new faces and some veterans. Hart quickly reminds us that he is one of the best of the best, not just of this era but of all time. Reality Check ranks amongst Hart’s best work on the stage as we watch a man find a new lease on life. I credit this to that time off, which let him get back into the world of writing and processing things happening around him.

Is Kevin Hart: Reality Check worth watching?

Fans of Kevin Hart will have a blast with Reality Check . If you are like me and saw Hart on his Reality Check Tour , you might realize that the material is identical. However, that didn’t stop me from enjoying the special as it felt fresh (mainly because I forgot half the jokes). This is Kevin Hart at the top of his game, and you don’t want to miss it.

Peacock’s 2024 Paris Olympics Line-Up Includes Commentary Shows From Kevin Hart, Kenan Thompson, Alex Cooper & More

7 father’s day movies on netflix in 2024 to celebrate dads, stream it or skip it: ‘keith robinson: different strokes’ on netflix, the comedian may have slowed down, but he can’t stop, won’t stop joking around, stream it or skip it: ‘kevin hart: the kennedy center mark twain prize for american humor’ on netflix, when a tribute feels more like a roast.

For his eighth stand-up special, and first in three years, Kevin Hart headed to Las Vegas to film at Resort World, and the comedian also goes all-in on Peacock , leaving Netflix behind for whatever jackpot NBCUniversal offered him. Will he keep his cards close to his vest, so to speak, or will he show us what kind of hand life is dealing for him now?

KEVIN HART: REALITY CHECK : STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

The Gist: Kevin Hart jumped from Comedy Central to concert films to arenas and stadiums, before the pandemic brought him much closer to home (making his 2020 Netflix special appear as though he filmed it in his actual living room). But now that he’s back out on the road, Hart wants to let us in on how he feels about plastic surgery, his late dad’s penchant for mean nicknames, and how he’s neither as good of a friend or as good of an activist as he’d like to think he is.

What Comedy Specials Will It Remind You Of?:  Both Kevin Hart and Tom Segura have specials out this week where they stop not only to mention their dads had died, but also to celebrate their fathers. Albeit in drastically different ways.

Memorable Jokes: Have you ever looked at an ant up close and thought: Brazilian Butt Lift? You will now, after watching Hart describe some of the absurd lengths people are going to to nowadays to get plastic surgery. The comedian may poke fun at LeBron James for his receding hairline, but Hart saves the best jokes to mock himself, acting out how foolish he’d look if he took people’s suggestions to undergo surgery to make himself taller.

Hart has mined his father’s behavior for comedy gold in previous specials, and now that his dad has died (apparently from COPD), the comedian pays tribute to him one last time by remembering some of the great yet mean-spirited nicknames his dad gave to some of their relatives.

The second half of the hour is devoted to the comedian providing himself with the titular reality checks.

He worries about passing down bad habits to his sons. His ego feels deflated when his wife compares him to Gollum; even more so when he sees some the fan art that’s sent his way (and which he displays on the giant screens). At 43, he no longer can drink like he used to, and yet, even if he blacks out, he claims his friends will “Weekend at Bernie’s” him to various nightclubs. Why? “They need my face to get into places.”

It’s not all about him, tho.

Instead of divulging exactly what went awry when his friends pulled him away from going LIVE on social media, Hart decides to recount for us a viral video about gross encounter of the poop-throwing kind at a coffee shop, and then imagine being an innocent bystander caught in the shitstorm at 7 in the morning.

But the more colorful and electric stories do involve Hart getting in over his head, whether it’s on a vacation with his friends that might get busted due to drugs, or whether it’s his wanting to join a celebrity-filled Black Lives Matter protest at the memorial for George Floyd.

Our Take: Kev puts a lot of thought into the flow of his sets.

That said, the timing for some of these bits already somehow feel outdated. Walking onstage with a baseball bat to threaten any fans who might want to bound onstage (was that Dave Chappelle incident at the Hollywood Bowl only 14 months ago?!?) or sharing his take on Will Smith’s Oscars outburst. Or even a joke about the metaverse, which is that even a thing, still?

Hart jokes that we live in crazy times, and it certainly feels crazy to think of how fast the cultural conversation keeps shifting, that some of these premises can somehow go stale so soon.

But that’s not his fault, necessarily. They were fine enough when he delivered the jokes to that audience.

What saves Hart and always has is his affability, and his proclivity for putting himself into situations where he has to squirm and hope to talk his way out of them. It doesn’t take much to picture him with his Plastic Cup Boyz caught up with foreign law enforcement, and imagine how Hart might try to separate himself from the pack. Or when he describes himself feeling out of place with other celebrities at the George Floyd memorial, somehow at a loss for words, but still managing to say a lot anyhow.

After all, those are the kinds of qualities and situations that have made him a movie star.

Our Call: STREAM IT. It’s not my favorite Hart special, but not my least favorite, either. It’ll certainly give a lot of people a new reason to check out Peacock.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q:  Do I maintain possession of my phone at all times?

Q:  Will the case affect my phone in any way?

Q:  My ticket is on my phone. What do I do?

A: Printed tickets are preferred for entry, but Yondr staff will be standing by to unlock your phone so you can access your mobile ticket in order to enter the venue.

Q:  I have a babysitter at home OR I am on-call for work — Where can I check my phone?

A: Set your phone to vibrate as you enter the venue. You’ll be able to feel your phone vibrate through the Yondr case when you receive calls or texts. You may use your phone throughout the night at designated Phone Use Areas in the lobby of the venue.

A: All venue staff and security have cell phones and radios. Should an emergency occur, they are trained to implement and execute safety and emergency procedures. Kevin Hart: Reality Check

The comic turned filmstar turns back into a comic for his latest tour

Time Out says

The blockbusting American funnyman is back with a massive new international tour that takes in a couple of dates at The O2. Exactly what reality is being checked we’re not entirely sure as there’s not a huge amount of advance information and a dearth of reviews – the UK dates are near the start of his big globetrotting jaunt. But expect slickly delivered anecdotes about his attempts to adjust to life as a big Hollywood star.

The event is phone-free: your mobile will be locked away in a pouch for the duration.

Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.

Kevin Hart returns to Memphis with Reality Check tour stop at FedExForum

kevin hart reality tour reviews

Comedy supernova Kevin Hart returns to Memphis with his first major tour in more than four years. Hart’s Reality Check tour will see the film star and standup king headline FedExForum on Friday.

Here’s a look at what Hart has been doing and what fans can expect as the show hits Memphis this weekend.

Showbiz juggernaut

Already one of the most beloved (and ubiquitous) presences in entertainment and advertising, in 2022 Hart has continued to expand his empire. Hart’s Laugh Out Loud Productions has become a major force in TV and streaming, and he’s also the founder of HartBeat Ventures, a venture capital firm with a focus on lifestyle, media and technology.

Those efforts follow a decade-plus of stardom for the Philadelphia-born Hart. The Emmy- and Grammy-nominated funnyman remains a top box office champ, having opened 10 films at No. 1, with his films having generated $4.23 billion in movie ticket sales worldwide.

Kevin Hart's history in Memphis

Hart is no stranger to Memphis and the Mid-South having performed in the region numerous times over the years, including memorable stops on his “Let Me Explain” tour at the Orpheum in 2012 and FedExForum on his “What Now?” tour in 2015.

But he’s always done a little more for the city, whether appearing on the late Bobby O’Jay’s WDIA morning show, or as he did in 2014, working a shift at the A&R BBQ on Elvis Presley and handing out sandwiches to fans. That appearance coincided with a Memphis red carpet premiere of Hart’s feature film “Think Like A Man Too” at the Malco Paradiso.

In 2017, Hart returned to town to mingle with Memphis' young comedians as part of "Hart of the City.” The Comedy Central show created by Hart and comic writer and actor Joey Wells focused on a different city (Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, etc.), providing a showcase for several local comics and chronicling Hart's travels in the city and his mentor-type meetings with up-and-coming standups.

Another Memphis connection came in 2019, when director Craig Brewer (“Hustle & Flow,” “Coming 2 America" ) brought his Bluff City-based series “You Look Like” — inspired by the monthly insult-comedy competition at Midtown's P&H Café — to Hart's Laugh Out Loud Network.

Reality Check tour

Hart’s Reality Check tour of U.S. arenas kicked off in July in Las Vegas’ The Chelsea, and so far he’s played in front of a quarter of a million fans. Hart has been playing across the country and has already passed through the region a once, playing in Nashville and Little Rock. In November, Hart will return to Las Vegas for a multinight stand at the Theater at Resorts World, which is expected to be filmed for his next standup special.

The Reality Check tour, which will stretch five months through 2022, enjoyed a run of East Coast dates earlier in the year, that grossed around $2 million per show. A recent list published in touring industry bible Pollstar — which hailed him as the comedy touring star of the decade — reported that Hart’s career touring gross earnings “are nearing $190 million.”

'Phone free experience'

Joining a list of other high profile comedians — including Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock and Amy Schumer — Kevin Hart’s tour dates, including the Memphis show, will be a “phone free experience.”

According to FedExForum here's how it works: “Upon arrival at the venue, phones will be secured in individual Yondr pouches that will be opened at the end of the event. Guests maintain possession of their devices at all times and can access them throughout the event only in designated Phone Use Areas within the venue. All devices will be re-secured in Yondr pouches before returning to the performance space. All pouches and equipment are routinely sanitized. The Yondr staff is trained and required to follow safety guidelines and hygiene protocols to practice social distancing, minimal contact and wear required personal protective equipment. Anyone seen using a device during the performance will be escorted out of the venue by security.”

Tickets to FedExForum show

Seats for Hart's FedExForum show start at $56 for mezzanine and upper level. A small number of lower level seats are still available for $76.60 and $92.50. Platinum seating and VIP packages are also available starting at $216 and going up to $444. To purchase tickets, go to Ticketmaster.com .

Big Laughs on tour

Comedian kevin hart brings 'reality check' to dallas on upcoming arena tour.

Kevin Hart

Comedian Kevin Hart's first major tour in over four years, "The Reality Check Tour," will make a stop in Dallas at American Airlines Center on Friday, August 12.

Produced by Live Nation, Hart's tour begins on July 2 and 3 with a two-night stay in Las Vegas, after which he will perform in over 30 arenas across North America, including dates in three other Texas cities — Houston on August 5, Austin on August 7, and San Antonio on August 13.

Hart's last visit to the state was in 2018, when he had stops in the four same cities in late October/early November.

“I am [hyped] as shit to go back out on tour," Hart said in a February 14 statement. "There is nothing better than making people laugh, I can feel the energy in the venues like caffeine pumping through my veins. I’ve been cooking up something special and have thoughts I need to get off my chest. Go get your tickets and come ready to have a good night!”

Hart is known to be one of the few comedians who can consistently fill up arenas. His most recent global comedy tour sold out over 100 arenas and sold over one million tickets worldwide. He also had a hometown stand-up performance at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, marking the first time a comedian sold out an NFL stadium in Philadelphia.

Tickets for the tour go on sale 10 am Friday, February 18 at KevinHartNation.com . Fans will also have access to a special Live Nation presale beginning 10 am Wednesday, February 16 through 10 pm Thursday, February 17.

“Since we opened our first gym in 2011, Bouldering Project has been focused on the intersection of fun, fitness and community,” said Kyle Wiggins. “Climbing is a great way to exercise the body and mind, but it’s just one of the many ways we engage with the neighborhoods in which we operate. With classes, camps and co-working, there’s always an opportunity for members to enjoy Bouldering Project and really make it their own.”

The Dallas location is a 35,000-square-foot facility with some of the most expansive climbing walls in the region including 8,500 square feet of bouldering terrain, a fitness center, yoga studio, and saunas. Bouldering Project also offers co-working space for members to hang out after climbing.

Membership options include unlimited monthly visits for $80 per month for adults. Day passes are $25 or you can get a 10-visit punch pass for $20 per visit, or a two-month summer membership for $100. Staff are on hand to assist newcomers. They also offer shoe rentals, chalk, and other equipment.

Hart concluded, “My fear is just looking like the old guy in the club,” hI never want people to look up and [and people] go, ‘Why is he here?’ That to me, that’s aggressive. ‘Oh God, you see Kevin over there in the corner? Why is he here? It’s 21, 22 night. Why did he come?’ Bumping into my kids’ friends from school, that’s just aggressive. I don’t need those problems. I’ll take my ass home and be happy.”

Kevin Hart is coming to Toronto this summer

Latest Videos

Comedy superstar Kevin Hart is coming to Toronto this summer, performing at the city's newest outdoor concert venue.

Toronto comedy fans are in for a treat this September, because Kevin Hart will be stopping by the city on his Acting My Age   tour, and better yet, he'll be performing in a more intimate venue than the stadiums and arenas he's used to in the city.

While Hart, who's been behind some of the highest-grossing comedy tours of all time, most recently made Toronto audiences chuckle on stage at the Scotiabank Arena, this time around, he's taking on a venue less than half the size.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Bowl at Sobeys Stadium (@liveatthebowl)

On Sept 6, Kevin Hart will be performing at The Bowl at Sobeys Stadium, a new outdoor venue in the heart of York University's campus that has a capacity of about 9,000 — a far cry from Scotiabank's nearly 20,000 seats.

Tickets will be on presale through Ticketmaster and The Bowl's website  from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2 until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, before going on general sale Thursday, July 4 at 10 a.m.

2024 Paris Olympics

Live sports and events.

July on Peacock is dominated by one thing: the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Peacock is home to broadcasts for the latest Olympic Games, and that’s where almost all of the streaming service’s focus will be for July. Still, if you aren’t interested in the Olympics, there are some other notable premieres, along with the usual lineup of new episodes from NBC, USA and Bravo shows and newly available movies.

The latest WWE event, Money in the Bank, will stream live, and long-running Bravo reality shows “Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles” and “The Real Housewives of Orange County” will premiere their new seasons. On the movie front, Amy Winehouse biopic “Back to Black” makes its exclusive subscription streaming debut.

A drama series about ancient Rome and a reality show about bears round out this month’s Peacock highlights.

New on Peacock in July 2024: Top picks

'the hungry games: alaska’s big bear challenge'.

Can bears star in a reality show? Just because they don’t know they’re participating in a reality TV competition doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening for these brown bears in Alaska’s Katmai National Park. This three-episode series applies the style and approach of reality TV to the content of a nature documentary, as these bears prepare to hibernate for the winter.

“Our Flag Means Death” star Rhys Darby provides comedic color commentary on the efforts of these bears to get themselves ready for a very long nap. The show awards points to the bears in its categories of “beefiness, ingenuity and grit,” as they work to gain nearly 200 pounds each for their time in hibernation. It’s an amusing and informative way for reality TV fans to experience the wonder of nature.

Premieres July 11 on Peacock

'Those About to Die'

Filmmaker Roland Emmerich knows his large-scale spectacles. The director of blockbusters like “Independence Day” and “The Day After Tomorrow” turns his attention to ancient Rome with this new series, which focuses on the brutal gladiatorial competitions that stoked the bloodlust of Roman citizens and helped keep the elite in power. Anthony Hopkins stars as the Roman emperor Vespasian, with a supporting cast that includes Iwan Rheon of “Game of Thrones” and Sara Martins of “Death in Paradise.”

Sign up to get the BEST of Tom’s Guide direct to your inbox.

The series was developed by Emmerich’s longtime collaborator Robert Rodat, who worked on Emmerich films “The Patriot” and “10,000 B.C.,” adapting the classic 1958 non-fiction book by Daniel P. Mannix. Gladiators have been a screen staple since the early days of film, and in “Those About to Die,” Emmerich puts his particular bombastic stamp on the venerable genre.

Premieres July 18 on Peacock

2024 Paris Olympics NBC logo

Peacock is the main home to coverage of this year’s Summer Olympics, held in Paris, France. That means all the events, including popular sports like swimming, gymnastics and tennis, with a total of 329 medal events and more than 5,000 hours of programming. If that seems too overwhelming, Peacock will offer the daily live show “Gold Zone” to guide viewers to the most important events, with highlights and commentary.

In addition to its regular coverage, Peacock will offer Spanish-language coverage from corporate sibling Telemundo, comedic recaps from Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson, and the talk show “Watch With Alex Cooper,” featuring the “Call Her Daddy” podcast host joined by special guests for interactive commentary on various events. No matter what kind of Olympics coverage you’re looking for, it’ll be on Peacock.

  1. Kevin Hart Reality Check Tour Review: It's Like He Never Left

After a few more movies under his belt since his last visit in 2018, the Reality Check tour is a fine return to form for Kevin in front of a UK audience but before I dive into Kevin's show I want to give a big shoutout to the Plastic Cup Boyz as they absolutely smashed it in the warm-up show before Kevin took to the stage.
