About W.A.S.P. [Text Wrapping Break]Few Bands in the history of Rock N’ Roll have ever incited the love, the hate, the raw emotional effect this Band has had on the world. From the very beginning, in the small venues of Los Angeles California, and later to the numerous countries worldwide that banned these Winged Assassins from performing live, the Band’s unique style of Shock and Rock caused Religious organizations, Local City Councils, Parliaments, and the Washington D.C. Senate to hold hearings in an effort to bar this group from selling records and trashing stages everywhere they played.

The band’s founding member, frontman Blackie Lawless, has led the group as its lead vocalist and primary songwriter since its beginning. His unique brand of visual, social and political comment took the group to worldwide heights and sold millions of records alongside a legacy of sold out shows across the globe for 4 decades.

Joined by bassist Mike Duda and guitarist Doug Blair, whose tenures in the band span 26 and 18 years respectively, along with drummer extraordinaire Aquiles Priester, will take the Band and the Fans back to where it all started. Complete with the stage show extravaganza that many fans never saw live.

W.A.S.P. are one of the most enduring glam metal bands of all time. They formed in 1982 and like many of their peers, hail from Los Angeles, California, USA. Their durability comes as much from their shock rock inspired image as it does from their numerous studio albums.

It might be difficult to fathom, but in the L.A Hair metal scene of the 1980’s, W.A.S.P were widely considered “the outrageous ones”. Bear in mind that this is a scene where Mötley Crüe could get in a snorting contest with Ozzy Osbourne ending with Osbourne snorting a line of ants. At the time however, W.A.S.P were the ones considered “mad, bad and dangerous to know”.

W.A.S.P was formed from the ashes of another band called Circus Circus. When they split up the bands guitarists, Blackie Lawless and Randy Piper, wanted to continue playing together. So after Lawless spent a brief period of time playing with Nikki Sixx's band London, the two recruited Rik Fox, and Tony Richards on bass and drums to become W.A.S.P.

However, this first incarnation didn’t last all that long. They released one single, entitled “Animal (F*ck Like A Beast)” which was the beginning of their bad reputation, and then Fox left to play with Yngwie Malmsteen and the replacement bassist also left in short order. This left Lawless to take up the bass and Chris Holmes was drafted in on the lead guitar.

This line up stuck, and by 1984 the band had signed to Capitol Records. Unlike many of their peers W.A.S.P never had the astonishing chart success that the likes of GNR and the Crüe commanded, but their debut album still sold 500,000 copies and their further records sold handsomely while courting no shortage of controversy among parent associations.

Until 1989 that is, when their album “The Headless Children” would stall a number 47 on the Billboard charts and then sail off soon afterwards. Chris Holmes also left the band to be with his wife Lita Ford. The band was in need of some time off, and Lawless began work on a solo album. However, under pressure from both promoters and fans he decided to release the record as a W.A.S.P album. This was, it’s fair to say, a good move.

The resulting record, “The Crimson Idol”, was immediately hailed as the bands best work and the band were back on track. Since then, the bands work has been surprisingly deep for a band whose name is said to stand for “We Are Sexual Perverts”. But everything is more interesting when you look a little closer, and W.A.S.P is no exception. These guys are still on the top of their game, and every metalhead would do well to see them as soon as possible.

Live reviews

While this is the decade that many 80’s bands are celebrating their 30th anniversaries by touring, there aren’t many who can stake the claim of not having stopped recording and touring since their glory days- one such band is W.A.S.P. The West Coast hair-metallers have been going steady since their self-titled debut in 1984, which sealed their place among other LA-originated greats of the era like Guns N’ Roses, Van Halen and Quiet Riot. W.A.S.P are known for their shock-value lyrics and onstage antics, and even 30 years down the line, they don’t appear to have gotten any less tongue-in-cheek provocative, particularly the ever-charismatic frontman, guitarist and keyboardist, Blackie Lawless.

As an 80’s metal nut, I was excited to catch W.A.S.P. on the opening night of their 30th anniversary tour at The Forum in London a couple of years ago, and they pulled out all the stops, delivering a blisteringly epic two-hour set. They focused on some of their classic material in the first two ‘Acts’ of the show, with hits like "L.O.V.E. Machine", "Wild Child", "Hellion", and "Scream Until You Like It" to kick things off, which had the whole black leather-clad crowd jumping and screaming along to every word. The finale of the show was dedicated to more recent work, such as the headbanging "Chainsaw Charlie (Murders in the New Morgue)”, and “Widowmaker”, for which Lawless and bassist Mike Dupke swapped instruments, just like back in the old days. A fun-filled, hair-thrashing show from some of the greats!

Totally awesome show and the band was truly on fire! Blackie Lawless’ voice was in great shape. W.A.S.P. played all the songs from ”The Crimson Idol” album plus a shorter set of hits including ”L.O.V.E. Machine”, ”Wild Child”, ”Golgotha” and ”I Wanna Be Somebody”.

Go and see W.A.S.P. if you have the chance! Totally worth it...worth every penny. Recommended!

W.A.S.P. Announce 40th Anniversary World Tour U.S. Dates

June 6th 2022 marks the 40th Anniversary of the band that has rocked and shocked, thrashed, trashed and blasted its way into shock and roll history. Your band, the world's band... my band W.A.S.P.

To celebrate, the band will embark on their first U.S tour in a decade and take fans back through 40 years of madness. Coming along for the trek are L.A.'s ARMORED SAINT, who are also celebrating their 40th Anniversary. And as a special treat, MICHAEL SCHENKER will appear on the Texas and Tulsa shows.

Blackie Lawless commenting on the U.S. tour, "For over 10 years we have not toured on U.S. soil. But starting Oct. 28th, 2022... we return. 10 years I'd want, 10 years I've cussed, 10 years I'd lust to return.... To my home land... and be a Wild Child, a Love Machine, to be Blind in Texas, On Your Knees and Headless."

Joined by bassist Mike Duda, and Doug Blair whose time in the band is 26 and 18 years, along with drummer extraordinaire Aquiles Priester, they will take the band and the fans back to where it all started, complete with the stage show extravaganza that many fans never saw live

"So join me and the band, and very special guests Armored Saint, as we celebrate W.A.S.P 40th Anniversary Tour... Back in the U.S.... Back to the Beginning. I'm gonna scream, cause I wanna feed, cause I wanna bleed, cause I Wanna Be Somebody. W.A.S.P. 40th Anniversary Tour... Back in the US.... Back to the Beginning." -- Blackie Lawless

Few Bands in the history of Rock N' Roll have ever incited the love, the hate, the raw emotional effect this Band has had on the world. From the very beginning, in the small venues of Los Angeles California, and later to the numerous countries worldwide that banned these Winged Assassins from performing live, the Band's unique style of Shock and Rock caused Religious organizations, Local City Councils, Parliaments, and the Washington D.C. Senate to hold hearings in an effort to bar this group from selling records and trashing stages everywhere they played.

The band's founding member, frontman Blackie Lawless, has led the group as its lead vocalist and primary songwriter since its beginning.

The 40th Never Stops World Tour 2023 begins August 4th at Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo, California and winds its way through nearly three dozen cities, coming to a close September 16th in Los Angeles, California.

Comments vocalist John Bush, “ Hello SAINT loyalists! We’re happy to inform you guys that, due to the overwhelming response we got on the W.A.S.P./SAINT tour we did last Winter, we decided to do another leg this late Summer/early Fall: The W.A.S.P./ARMORED SAINT 40th Anniversary tour part 2! This is going to happen in August and September. We will be doing about thirty more shows. The plan is to go to cities we didn’t do on the last run with a few exceptions of some places where we will be returning. There will be some cities that ARMORED SAINT hasn’t played in many, many years as well as some we’ve never played in our history! We’re also happy to be going to Canada including Vancouver, which we haven’t played since 1985. Too bad it won’t be hockey season. It’s gonna be awesome! Thanks as always for all your support, and who knows, maybe we can bring this tour to some other continents on planet earth. ARMORED SAINT released their Symbol Of Salvation Live CD/DVD in 2021 via Metal Blade Records. The release came in celebration of the seminal album’s 30th anniversary. A record vocalist John Bush refers to as the band’s “ cornerstone record ,” Symbol Of Salvation Live is a combination live album and video of the band playing the album in its entirety at New York City’s famed Gramercy Theatre during their 2018 tour. It captures the power, diversity, and peerless songwriting contained within. “ I felt like showing Symbol… in another light was a great homage to the record itself, ” states bassist Joey Vera. “ Also, having all the fans be there and part of that event is a way for us to say, ‘Thank you!’ For, without them, we can’t do any of this in the first place. “

"We'll take the band and the fans back to where it all started, complete with a stage-show extravaganza that many fans never saw live," Lawless continued. "'Cause I wanna scream, 'cause I wanna feed, 'cause I wanna bleed, 'cause I wanna be somebody."

W.A.S.P. Cancels 2023 U.S. Tour Due To BLACKIE LAWLESS's 'Extensive Back Injuries'

Because of the extensive back injuries suffered by Blackie Lawless during the European leg of W.A.S.P. 's 40th-anniversary tour, the band's previously announced 2023 U.S. tour has been canceled and will be rescheduled for spring 2024. Tickets and VIP packages can be refunded at the point of purchase.

Lawless comments: "The extent of the trauma I endured on the 2023 European tour was far greater than originally diagnosed and surgery will now be needed to correct the problem. In addition to the original herniated disc, as that tour continued, a second disc became herniated. Upon returning home, a second MRI also revealed a broken vertebrae to my lower back.

"I've been fortunate to work with the best specialists in the U.S. and I've been in intensive rehab since we got home. It's going well but the damage was pretty extensive and all the doctors agree moving the tour a few months back will be the safest thing. It's all been as the result of an injury that happened several years ago. I'm working my butt off to get ready and I'll be up riding on [my mic stand nicknamed] Elvis ... bigger and badder than ever. If the Torture Never Stops, then the 40th Never Stops!"

During a May 25 appearance on SiriusXM 's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" , Lawless spoke about completing W.A.S.P. 's recent European tour while seated after suffering a herniated disc in his back. He said: "This past Monday was my 10-year anniversary from when I broke my right femur. And it's a long, complicated story, but what's been going on with my back is a direct reflection of what happened with that femur being broken. Because I wore a lift for nine years, and come to find out I did not need that lift. And that was only determined last summer, so the lift was taken out. But the spine had adjusted to me walking with that lift. And when we took it out, then that's when the problems started. And it actually started at the beginning of the U.S. tour. And I was able to get through the U.S. tour okay, and we thought it had settled into place, but when we got to Europe, we quickly discovered, about two weeks into the tour, that was not the case. And what was happening is that the vertebrae were compressing some of the disks. I ended up rupturing a disk, and then that starts leaking out a gelatin that then wraps itself around the nerves coming out of the spinal cord. And that then creates this thing called nerve pain. And I don't know if people understand what that is, because I had heard of it but I had never experienced it before. And it is pain that you cannot imagine. It is unlike anything you've ever experienced before."

The 66-year-old guitarist/vocalist, whose real name is Steven Duren , continued: "I had to go to Berlin four times to get treatment. I received eight epidurals throughout the tour. That was the only way I was getting through it, because the pain is literally off the charts. And the doctors there told me, they said, 'This thing can become so intense, people commit suicide from it.' And I can see why people would do that.

"The first time I had to go in, you have to go into a surgical center because it's not something that can be done in a regular doctor's office. So we were in a hospital in Berlin. So they take me into the surgical room, or the operating room. And he told me, he said, 'Now I'm gonna inject this needle or insert this needle into you and I'm gonna touch your spinal cord with it.' He said, 'I want you to get ready for this.' Now, I didn't know what that meant — until he did it. And when he did it — I really don't have accurate words to describe what that feels like. The closest way I can explain it is it felt like an explosion, like a bomb went off inside my legs. And he said, 'I'm gonna have to do this one more time.' And I swear to you, I grabbed the table with both hands.

"You see these movies about mafia and things like that, where they're pulling guys' fingernails off with pliers. You don't need that," Lawless added. "You just show somebody a needle — they'll give up their kids. I'm here to tell you — there's nothing like it. I mean, you cannot fathom it unless you've been through it.

"So, anyway, they were able to keep me running, but they were afraid that I was gonna do further damage. So the deal was halfway during the tour that I would pull back about 50 percent of the movement that I was doing. But it started getting worse and worse. And we got to Zurich about two and a half weeks ago, and something happened during the show, and I knew something wasn't right. And that's when we went to sitting after that.

"We got home this past Saturday, and I went straight to the doctor's office. And they looked at me, and we said, 'Okay, let's do new pictures.' So we did new pictures this past Monday.

"I have a thing, and they determined this in Berlin — it's called mechanical compression," Blackie revealed. "And what that means is you get vertebrae that start pushing against each other, but they grind against each other at the same time because they start to cramp. Well, when we were doing the show in Zurich, it was cramping really bad and I couldn't get it to stop. And I was literally , literally hanging on to [my mic stand] Elvis while I was trying to sing and play at the same time.

"So we did the new pictures on Monday, and I have a cracked vertebra now in my spine. But as bad as that sounds, it's not the first time it happened," Lawless said. "It happened the first time in '92 on 'The Crimson Idol' tour. I got a little too close to the edge of the stage one night and some of the fans pulled me off the stage into the audience, and I ended up upside down in the crowd and they fell on top of me, and I broke a vertebra then. So this is the second time I've been through this. So it'll heal on its own. I start therapy tomorrow — it's a swimming pool thing that I'm gonna have to do to start first. But they say they're gonna have me up to speed in eight weeks to start the tour. So I'll be ready to go."

Fan-filmed video of one of the first shows of Lawless performing while seated, from the May 15 concert at Sono Music Club in Brno, Czech Republic, can be seen below. Lawless 's chair was built into his custom mic stand.

W.A.S.P. 's massive European leg of the 40th-anniversary world tour wrapped on May 18 in Sofia, Bulgaria at Universidada Sports Hall.

Produced by Live Nation , the North American leg of W.A.S.P. 's "The 40th Never Stops World Tour 2023" was scheduled to kick off on Friday, August 4 at the Fremont Theatre in San Luis Obispo, California, making stops across North America in Vancouver, British Columbia; Omaha, Nebraska; New York City; Memphis, Tennessee and more before wrapping up on Saturday, September 16 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California. Special guest ARMORED SAINT was supposed join the band across all 33 dates of the tour.

W.A.S.P. wrapped up its first U.S. tour in 10 years with a sold-out show on December 11, 2022 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. This marked the 18th sold-out shows for the U.S. tour, which kicked off in late October 2022. W.A.S.P. 's performances included the return of the band's classic song "Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)" , which hadn't been played live in over 15 years.

Lawless has led W.A.S.P. as its lead vocalist and primary songwriter since its beginning. His unique brand of visual, social and political comment took the group to worldwide heights and sold millions of records alongside a legacy of sold-out shows across the globe for four decades. He is joined by bassist Mike Duda and guitarist Doug Blair , whose tenures in the band span 28 and 17 years respectively, along with drummer extraordinaire Aquiles Priester .

W.A.S.P. 's latest release was "ReIdolized (The Soundtrack To The Crimson Idol)" , which came out in February 2018. It was a new version of the band's classic 1992 album "The Crimson Idol" , which was re-recorded to accompany the movie of the same name to mark the 25th anniversary of the original LP's release. The re-recorded version also features four songs missing from the original album.

W.A.S.P. 's most recent studio album of all-new original material was 2015's "Golgotha" .

W.A.S.P. 's first live performance since December 2019 took place on July 23, 2022 at Skansen in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Latin Grammys will happen in Miami this year, marking the Spanish-language awards show’s return to the United States just one year after it made a controversial move to Spain .

The 25th annual show will air live from the Kaseya Center on Nov. 14. Nominations will be announced on Sept. 17.

The 2023 iteration of the Latin Grammys was held in Sevilla, Spain as part of a multi-million dollar deal between the government of Andalusia and the Latin Recording Academy. This was the first time in the 23-year-long history of the Latin Grammys that the ceremony was held outside of the United States.

“Since our first awards presentation in the year 2000, the Latin Grammys have provided an international spotlight for Latin music second to none and provided iconic performances that have become part of global music and pop culture history. We are thrilled to celebrate our 25th anniversary in Miami” said Manuel Abud, CEO, the Latin Recording Academy. “Miami has evolved to become the epicenter of Latin entertainment and we are grateful for the community support and enthusiasm we have received.”

This is the third time that the ceremony will be held in Miami, where the Latin Academy’s headquarters are based.

“We are excited to bring to life the landmark 25-year celebration of the Latin Grammys from the city we call home – the city where Hispanic culture has flourished as a driving force of influence and impact globally,” said Ignacio Meyer, President of Univision Television Networks Group at TelevisaUnivision. “As the Home of Latin Music, we’re excited to deliver yet another unforgettable night of excellence in music, grounded in our passion and unwavering commitment to shining a bright light on the most culture-defining moments for Spanish-speaking audiences worldwide.”
