Do we bring our own adult drinks for the boat ride?

Unopened! They also have little frozen ones that they sell that they put a little ice chest for you. It's so family friendly. They also gave all the kids frozen strawberry lemonade, We learned so much about the area from The Man driving the boat

If the event of rain, our tickets non refundable? The website does not give that information. It just says the tour will not happen in inclement weather.

We went to the flooded part of the lake to swim...basically swimming in a parking lot and saw this tour boat pull in and drop others off. We were intrigued!! Called this a.m. and hopped on a prepaid for 5pm boat. $25 a person for a little over an hour tour. We met at their store/bar/bus depot (booze can be bought inside) and drove down to the ramp in their very cool old school bus. Loaded onto the party boat and just sat back and chilled. The boat captain was super nice and a fellow band geek (along with the bus driver) so I was with my people. When you know, you just know. We got a history of the lake and waters surrounding it, wildlife and also jammed to some fun tunes as we drifted along. Very relaxing! We plan on doing this again on our next trip back from Fort Worth.

If there's a boat tour, then I am there! I was excited to find this place while planning my first ever Broken Bow stay. Booking was easy on their website. My map took me to the wrong place. I called them because I didn't want to be left behind. The nice lady that answered was patient with me. You can't miss it on Stevens Gap Rd. Look for the blue Tiki bus! They have a deck bar to hang out at and have drinks or play games before your tour. They advise you to come 30 mins early to give you plenty of time to check in. You can also purchase drinks from them, and they'll even lend you a little cooler bag filled with ice! The shuttle leaves about 15 mins prior to your scheduled time to take you down to the lake where the boat awaits you. And what a cool boat it is! Both sides were lined with a bar counter and stools set up along with a surf road shaped counter in the middle as well. Plenty of seating. The tour guide (forgot his name) was great and I liked his energy. He played fun, upbeat music throughout the whole tour. He even stopped to let everyone take pictures with the sunset in the background. Bring cash to leave a tip y'all! I booked the last tour of the day aka sunset tour and was so glad I did. Got some beautiful shots, but being there and experiencing it with a cold drink in hand made for a perfect ending to my first day of vacation. The whole staff was very friendly and welcoming. I definitely see myself making this a tradition on future Broken Bow trips. Highly recommending this boat tour to everyone I know and to you guys too!

Y'all, the Broken Tiki is an absolute MUST if you visit broken bow/hochatown. Do NOT hesitate to book with them! My now husband and I did an elopement trip to broken bow last week and we scheduled a tiki tour for our first night in town and it completely set the tone for our trip (we had a number of friends in tow with us as well). They are so kind and outrageously fun! I know not everyone visits for a wedding, but when they heard we were in town to elope, they offered to do a private boat ride out to a little island in the middle of the lake at sunset for our ceremony. That's the kind of people they are. Our experience was nothing short of amazing and our photos are epic! When, not if, we go back to OK, Broken Tiki will be on our list every time! Not sure how many captains they have and I'm sure they are all phenomenal, but if you can, ask for Patrick

fun things to do in Broken Bow

With a population of just 4,100, Broken Bow is a little-known town in Oklahoma, and it’s often overshadowed by bigger tourist destinations like Tulsa and Oklahoma City .

When you look a little closer, however, you’ll realize that there are plenty of things to see and do in Broken Bow.

It’s a paradise for nature lovers; its secluded nature is home to breathtaking scenery in the form of rivers, lakes, mountains and waterfalls, and many of them have been unspoiled by human habitation.

It’s also quite charming in terms of shops, saloons, diners and other hallmarks of country living.

It’s very much a place that’s still imbued with the spirit of the Wild West.

Another thing worth mentioning about Broken Bow is its roadside attractions.

If you’re a fan of the kooky and quirky, you’ll find plenty of “you have to see it to believe it” attractions, including many that revolve around Bigfoot.

They’ll be perfect for your vacation scrapbook!

Are you ready to learn more about this hidden gem of Oklahoma?

Let’s talk about things to do in Broken Bow.

With lush scenery and ample opportunities for fun, Beavers Bend State Park is one of the best places for outdoor adventure in the central US.

For starters, it’s located in the foothills of Oklahoma’s mountains, so the landscapes are filled with everything from crisp, cold rivers to craggy cliffs peeking through oak and pinewood forests.

You can go hiking, biking, camping, canoeing, rock climbing and more.

Every activity is a sightseeing dream!

Points of interest around the park include everything from a sleek and modern golf course to a rustic lodging area that offers old-fashioned cabins.

Whether you’re interested in thrills like water skiing or slow, leisurely activities like guided horseback riding in the plains, Beavers Bend State Park has a little something for everyone.

There’s a reason why it’s considered one of the top tourist attractions in all of Oklahoma.

Do you have “ziplining” on your bucket list?

If so, this is the place to make your dreams come true!

Ziplining is one of the coolest things to do in Broken Bow thanks to the proximity of the Kiamichi Mountains.

Not only can you achieve dizzying heights from its tree-topped cliffs, but you can also enjoy a panoramic, bird’s eye view of its lakes, cliffs and alpine forest all the way down.

Rugaru Adventures isn’t the only place in Broken Bow that offers ziplines, but it’s among the best.

It has six different lines that range in length from 300 to 1,100 feet, and thrill-seekers have been known to reach speeds of 35 miles per hour or more.

Do something different this year with a trip to Rugaru Adventures.

Cross an item off your bucket list.

Hochatown Swamp Booger Mercantile

If you’re looking for unique places to visit near Broken Bow, how about somewhere with “swamp booger” in its name?

The Hochatown Swamp Booger Mercantile is a fun and quirky shop that’s beloved by passing tourists.

You can buy colorful t-shirts and kitschy “I Love Oklahoma” key chains; you can indulge in coffee, milkshakes, ice cream and bubble tea.

They even sell freshly-made fresh with all of the fixings as a southern-style dessert.

It isn’t a large store, but that’s part of its charm.

It’s almost like a roadside attraction that you’ll only find if you drive by it or get directed to it by a local.

You certainly won’t find this booger bonanza in any fancy travel brochures!

One thing to note about the Hochatown Swamp Booger Mercantile is that it’s technically located outside of Broken Bow in the neighboring city of Hochatown.

However, it’s only a few miles away, and many Hochatown attractions are considered Broken Bow attractions as well.

They’re not unlike the Twin Cities of Oklahoma, so put some extra gas in the tank to enjoy both during your vacation!

You can rent kayaks and jet skis to make a splash on the water; you can spread out blankets for picnicking in the grassy green fields.

A number of trails are available if you want to venture around the park and see what wildlife you can spot.

(November to December is bald eagle season, so bring your binoculars if you’re visiting at the end of the year!)

You definitely won’t want to miss it.

Janet’s Treasure Chest

What do Bigfoot and the Statue of Liberty have in common?

They’re both on display outside of Janet’s Treasure Chest , the quirkiest little gift shop in Broken Bow.

You can find all kinds of odds and ends at Janet’s.

From vintage toys to feather boa jewelry to gold-plate antique cash registers, there’s always something new to be discovered on the shelves.

Most have very reasonable thrift store prices, though some are specialty pieces that have been picked up at auctions or donated from high rollers, so they’re more expensive.

You don’t need to spend money at Janet Treasure Chest’s to have a good time, however.

Window shoppers are welcome.

So are selfie-takers who just want to snap a photo with the statues and cardboard cut-outs that dot the front lawn.

Exotic animals live side-by-side with traditional farmyard and barn-dwelling critters.

Many can be pet, fed and held by visitors, including children, so it can be an educational experience as well as an exciting one.

The staff is always on hand to answer questions and encourage children to develop a love for wildlife care and conservation.

If you’re really lucky, you might drop by the center when there’s been a recent rescue or birth.

Your kids will never forget the time that they got to cuddle baby deer!

Spend an afternoon at the Hochatown Rescue Center and Petting Zoo.

Not only will you be supporting a good cause, but you’ll be giving your kids a chance to interact with animals that they’ve never actually seen outside of a zoo.

11. Kiamichi Owa-Chito Festival of the Forest

Kiamichi Owa-Chito Festival of the Forest

Kiamichi Owa-Chito Festival of the Forest

Held every spring, the Kiamichi Owa-Chito Festival of the Forest is one of the top things to do in Broken Bow.

It combines food, drink, music, dance, art and culture to celebrate the older, more rugged ways of life.

Musicians play everything from folkish flutes to bluegrass banjos and mandolins.

Games and contests include things like axe throwing, double buck sawing and Jack-n-Jill crosscutting.

Other activities range from art shows to luncheons served with farm-fresh meals.

Another important aspect of the festival is that it pays homage to the Native Americans who lived in Broken Bow even before European settlers.

You can find many forms of indigenous artwork and craftsmanship for sale in order to support these tribes.

12. Old West Town Mini-Golf

You’ve never played mini-golf quite like this!

Old West Town Mini-Golf is set in a rustic, country-style environment.

You’ll have to use your nine iron to navigate everything from trick shots around wheeled wagons to putting greens situated in saloons, blacksmith shops and old-fashioned post offices.

Despite its novelty status, however, the town is authentic in terms of detail and decoration.

It’s a genuine representation of life in the late 1800s, and real artifacts of old are scattered throughout the course.

One of its coolest pieces of memorabilia is the costume of “Pawnee Bill,” a famous performer in 19th century Wild West shows throughout America and Europe.

The Old West Town would be a must see destination even without the golf course, but since it’s there, why not take advantage and play a few rounds?

You’ll have fun, and you’ll do something unforgettable while you’re in Broken Bow.

Address: 9123 N US Hwy 259, Broken Bow, OK 74728, United States

13. Girls Gone Wine

Girls Gone Wine

Girls Gone Wine

Girls Gone Wine is a hilarious stop in the northern streets of Broken Bow.

It’s a winery, but it’s decorated with bright, popping colors and advertised with a sassy sense of humor, so it’s a far cry from the pompous wineries that you might’ve visited in the past.

Visitors can browse the boutique, examine the wine collection, swirl some samples at the tasting bar or lounge around on velvet couches with a glass in hand.

There’s no vineyard, but everything is locally sourced, so you’ll still be supporting Oklahoma’s small farming communities.

A VIP table can be reserved under the name “The G-Spot.”

You might also enjoy some of the winery’s special events, including parties, movie screenings and fundraisers like the “50 Shades of Pink” 6K marathon.

One thing’s for sure: Girls Gone Wind will be one of the most memorable experiences that you have in Broken Bow.

Once you’ve enjoyed a funky place like this, you’ll be spoiled for other wineries!

You can choose from five different “themes” for your escape game, including a killer virus, a murderer at a lake house and a crooked sheriff in an Old West town.

The Beavers Bend Folk Festival and Craft Show can only be experienced once per year, so if you’re thinking of traveling to Broken Bow in the fall, make it during the festival time!

18. BigFoot Speedway

BigFoot Speedway

BigFoot Speedway

With a name like BigFoot Speedway , you’d probably expect this destination to be quirky, and you’d be right!

It’s an amusement center that takes pride in its silliness, but that’s exactly why you and your kids will have a blast.

The “Speedway” part of the name refers to the outdoor go-kart track.

The “Bigfoot” part refers to the rides and games indoors, all of which are stamped with cartoon gorillas.

Activities include the BigFoot 360, a dizzying simulator ride, and the Bigfoot VR, a thrilling virtual reality roller coaster.

A snack bar is available, so you can cool down after all the excitement with a nice soda or snow cone.

You don’t even need to have children, though they can be a convenient excuse for dropping by and enjoying the rides, games and snacks.

Hochatown Saloon

While it’s true that Oklahoma isn’t exactly a hub of nightlife, there are a few places out there that can offer drinks and dancing after sundown.

One of these destinations is the Hochatown Saloon .

Like its name suggests, the Hochatown Saloon is designed like something from the Wild West.

Even its exterior architecture has the wood panels and horse hitching posts that you’d expect from an authentic 18th-century alehouse.

Today, however, you’re more likely to find cars than foals.

The country and western vibe lives on in the free-spirited atmosphere of the saloon.

During the day, it’s a kid-friendly restaurant; at night, it transforms into a dance hall complete with live music and tipsy but enthusiastic patrons.

Fall is an especially popular time for a drive since the changing leaves will make it seem like the trees are on fire with color.

Attractions along the highway include everything from restaurants to horse ranches to log cabins for rental.

A perpetual favorite is Pam’s Hateful Hussy Diner, but there are many others as well.

The Luxury Cabins listed have been recommended by Local Moms in the Plano Moms group. The photos have been shared with credit to Air BnB, Expedia, Vrbo, and the Cabin owners. Affiliate Links are included in this post – we may earn a commission for any bookings that you make – thank you.

In addition to these rentals, if they’re booked up when you want to go, you can also try Beavers Bend Cabins, which is a centrally-owned agency that offers cabin management and booking.

Is Broken Bow and Beavers Bend the same?

Things to do in Broken Bow, Oklahoma

For the adults of the family, there’s a Winery (Girls Gone Wine) that offers a great range and a gift shop with super cute gifts ( We recommend you try the Winearitas! )

A Weekend Itinerary could include:

  • Go to Tomahawk’s for axe throwing
  • Spot the Deer in the forest while you’re hiking more than 12 trails in Beavers Bend State Park and then hitch a ride on the cute train ride.
  • Kayak the Lower Mountain Fork River
  • Zipline over Broken Bow Lake
  • Ride go-karts in the Big Foot Speedway
  • Pet the animals at Hochatown Petting Zoo .

Head to Steven’s Gap ( Off of U.S. 259, Hochatown, OK ) to pick up one of the BrokenTikiTours . They get the little kids involved, who may even be able to drive the boat!

Head 9 miles west on Highway 3, and try Riverman Trail Rides for horseback riding. It’s a beautiful ride. It puts you up on this huge cliff overlooking a river – it is stunning.

Ages 10 and up ride their own horse; littles can ride with an adult on a tandem saddle in the rear – the people running this are the folks who own and live on the land itself – truly amazing!

The food at Buffalo Grill is also great. If you fish, go to the river for trout. Each person must have a Oklahoma fishing license.

For a little more adventure, you can Rent ATV’s and Boat Rentals – couples or families looking for adventure and a unique experience in the great Ouachita mountains.

You could always try Ziplining too with Rugaru Aerial Adventures, but be sure to check the requirements for the members of your family that can take part. Tripadvisor classifies it as their current #1 Outdoor Adventure in Broken Bow!

Enjoy the Water on Broken Bow Lake

To swim in the Broken Bow Lake or rent a Boat, head to Steven’s Gap and to the Beavers Bend Marina for rentals. Add a Tube too, for extra fun!

The lake is usually warm (depending on the time of the year).

There are some rocky beaches off Steven’s Gap –> Eagle Dr where you can swim, but the river was fun to catch tadpoles in the shallow areas. At the little lake, you can rent paddle boats and canoes.

Places to Eat Out in Broken Bow, Oklahoma

For Pizza, Grateful Head is very popular for the atmosphere, but the Pizza at Mountain Fork Brewery is renowned!

We love the Beavers Bend Brewery, Jake’s Brickhouse Grill for steaks, Shuck Me for Seafood and Buffalo Grill (for Barbecue! ) and the Rolling Fork Takery in Hochatown – they source everything fresh and local, and the owner creates all the recipes.

Another great option is a little place called the River Walk Market in the Hochatown Strip Mall which does breakfast and lunch buffets with great home-cooking. You’ll pay according to your kids age – $.99/year up until 8, then it’s a flat price for everyone.

For Coffee and Desserts, try Okie Girls Coffee and Ice Cream , Northside Ice Cream Parlor and Gypsy Brew Java.

Rental Tips

  • Check if they are  Kid or Pet Friendly
  • Check the Host and Property Ratings and Reviews: the reviews usually tell you if the neighbors were loud, the host responsive, if the place was clean or how easy the parking was!
  • A re Linens and Basics provided ? Always check if you need to bring kitchen paper, your own sheets and toilet paper. Listings usually provide that information.
  • The closest  Grocery  Store is Pruett’s and stock may be low if it’s a popular time of year for rentals. There is a Walmart in the town, but you may want to bring your own  Groceries .

Items to bring

  • Fishing poles
  • Stuff to make s’mores
  • Bring Rain boots for the creek

If you are not well versed in starting your own log fire, or want to ensure you don’t rely on having a stock of logs, you can purchase a duraflame log at Tom Thumb. Most cabins will provide logs for you for an extra fee. Check when you book or contact the owner before you go.
