The Grand Tour Trailer Released As Series Comes To An Emotional End - WATCH

Motoring enthusiasts could dread the 13th of September as it marks the final time a motoring show with the three top presenters of the automotive world, Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond, head out on an adventure in Zimbabwe. This emotional and spirited journey, titled "One For The Road," is part of The Grand Tour series and will air exclusively on Amazon Prime.

The trio has been popular since its BBC Top Gear days, famous for its brutal car reviews, splendid British humor, high-speed action, a ton of car knowledge, and of course, for its Top Gear specials. However, it wasn't just the cars, it was the unmatchable chemistry between three friends who pretended to hate each other that turned out to work the most. Their playful banter and seamless camaraderie became the hallmark of the episodes of Top Gear, making each episode an unforgettable experience.

The show was a favorite among car enthusiasts in their twenties, thirties, and forties, with its specials standing out as particularly memorable. Highlights included the 1,000-mile motorcycle adventure through Vietnam, the quest to locate the source of the Nile in three second-hand estate cars, and the dramatic crossing of Africa's salt flats and game reserves in three worn-out cars with no doors.

The series also featured specials involving muscle cars in a journey across America to set top speed records on the salt flats and the polar expedition, which showcased a gripping man vs. nature scenario and marked the first car to reach the North Pole. These iconic events became the stuff of legend for car fans, who could only dream of such adventures themselves.

However, Clarkson, May, and Hammond left the BBC after Clarkson was involved in a 'fracas'. The three, alongside producer Andy Wilman, started their own production company to film The Grand Tour. They collaborated with Amazon to feature the show exclusively on Prime. After its first series in 2016, when it broke all records, the trio embarked on adventures every year, demonstrating that even as they aged into their fifties and sixties, their enthusiasm for high-octane exploration remained undiminished.

Sadly, it appears that the era of car explorations is coming to an end this year. The trio will journey to Zimbabwe, followed by a nostalgic return to Botswana, the birthplace of their Top Gear specials. They will embark on a breathtaking road trip through dramatic and challenging landscapes in a Lancia Montecarlo, a Ford Capri 3-liter, and a Triumph Stag, before wrapping up the episode with an emotionally charged finale on a strangely familiar island.

When asked at the Edinburgh TV Festival why the trio was ending the global phenomenon, as reported by Daily Mail , Wilman said:

"We are getting to the point where enough is enough. On top of that, there is the sense that we want to end things on our own terms. It had to come to an end and we wanted to be the ones who called it."

The episode was shot in September last year where the trio will return to Kubu Island, Botswana. Wilman described the episode as "deliberately gentle" as the three stars wanted to go back to where they started from. He added:

"They wanted to go 'unplugged'. We wanted to go back to 2005, leave the dynamite at home, we will go with s*** old cars. They give you more TV than modern new cars, they give you more stories, more laughs. So they wanted evocative cars that they adore and they wanted to be in Africa. It is the favorite continent we ever filmed in.

"Their comradery is next level. I think that you can see that they know this is the last time they will do this.

"We decided a long time ago. The one thing we wanted to be in control of is deciding when and where and how we landed."

In recent years, the three presenters have each pursued their own ventures. Clarkson turned to farming, leading to the expansion of several related businesses. May launched his gin and invested in a pub, and Hammond opened a new garage.

As life progresses and time moves on, some things remain deeply cherished in our hearts. For many, Clarkson, May, and Hammond are more than just television personalities—they embody our passions, the machines we love, and the thrill of adventure. Through their unforgettable journeys and insightful humor, they have taught us to appreciate, respect, and savor the marvels of automotive engineering, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to inspire and delight.

It remains to be seen if Clarkson makes use of his popular line in the upcoming episode - "And on that bombshell, it is time to end."

The Grand Tour Teases Final Episode, Airs September 13

• Amazon has released a teaser video for the final episode of The Grand Tour.
• It marks the end of a 22 year partnership between Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May.
• The trio put Top Gear on the map and The Grand Tour ended up outliving it.

The end of an era is upon us as the final episode of The Grand Tour will air on September 13. When it does, it will likely mark the last time Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May appear on a show together.

The Grand Tour has been airing for eight years, but the team is more famous for putting Top Gear on the map. The show turned into a global phenomenon, before Clarkson’s infamous “fracas” put an end to things. However, in an ironic twist, The Grand Tour would end up outliving Top Gear.

With all that being said, the final episode is called One For The Road and Amazon has released a new teaser video. It notes the trio have been together for 22 years and shows Clarkson saying “For the last time, here we go.”

That’s not much to go on, but the clip shows the hosts traveling across a desert and sharing numerous laughs. They also appear to encounter issues with their questionable cars which include a modified Lancia Montecarlo .

While the teaser doesn’t reveal much, the video is already a hit as it has been viewed more than 420,000 times in the first six hours. It’s also the #12 trending video on YouTube and is followed by another video featuring James May’s visit to Jay Leno’s garage.

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May reluctantly agree to test three SUVs in the rugged landscapes of Canada.

Clarkson in the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, Hammond in the Porsche Macan Turbo Performance Pack and May in the Range Rover Velar. The boys will test their cars’ sporting side at a race track and their utilitarian side with some enormous dogs, before ending in an epic race across the snowy mountains.

Good episode. The lawyers in the Tesla Model X trial were funny. They have once again proved that they are ambitious but void. It is true that James flowing at the end of the episode recalls the end of Top Gear Special Vietnam.

Solid episode, I got Vietnam flashbacks at the end xD. However, Paris Hilton’s presence was just annoying to me, she looked so out of place.

So the Raptor came as a replacement for the QV…..That’s odd

The Grand Tour Season 3 (Almost) Full Episode Guide

The Grand Tour Season 3 will begin 18th January 2019 . So with it being right around the corner, Amazon have revealed as much information about the episodes as they can get away with. So without further ado, he is our full episode guide to The Grand Tour Season 3!

Episode 1 – Motown Funk

As we brought to you last week , the boys head to Detroit to bring back the roar of the American V8 to the Motor City. What was once the heart of American muscle and motoring industry, now only produces kale and healthy green things.

To remedy this, they get their hands on the Ford Mustang RTR, Dodge Challenger Hellcat, and the Hennessey Exorcist. They drag race, make a lot of noise, and race their cars around the city to rekindle its love of petrol fumes.

‘..A true battle of good versus evil, with Jon Bon Jovi in the middle….’ Amazon says. What a way to kick off the season.

Episode 2 + 3 – Snap!

The Colombia special will finally be given to us after a long wait. Find the photos here . The Grand Tour trio are challenged to take photos that live up to the quality of the Amazon screen saver photos. Of course, when it comes to Clarkson , Hammond and May , this needs to be done with cars deep in the mix.

They travel to one of the most photogenic places in the world and crack on with three cars in hand: a Jeep Wrangler, a Chevrolet Silverado pick-up and a Fiat Panda 4×4. I’m sure you can guess who’s is who’s.

Richard Porter, script writer of The Grand Tour had this to say about the episode:

“What happens next is an adventure of such size and scale that it’s been split into two parts for your viewing pleasure, as the trio embark on a journey of incredible beauty, majesty, peril and wonder. And also a thing involving donkeys that’s a bit weird’.

Episode 4 – Pick Up, Put Down

In this episode they’re tasked with reviewing three pick-up trucks. Japanese pick-ups, like the Hilux, are extremely popular and dominate the market. So instead of that, they choose to test three European trucks to put through their paces. They test the VW Amarok, a Ford Ranger and a Mercedes X-class.

According to Porter, it’s a “… brutal simulation of harsh, lawless life in a subsistence existence. Which may also be handy if this whole Brexit situation takes a turn for the worse.”

Episode 4 – Itchy Urus

Clarkson taken on the Lamborghini Urus in Sweden and eventually races Abbie Eaton in a Porsche Cayman. James May takes the Alpine A110 to the Eboladrome, and Hammond features a Jim Clark history segment on his successful racing career, and eventual death.

Episode 6 – China In Their Hands

Are you a Chinese businessman on a budget and looking for a luxury saloon to drive you around one of the busiest cities in the world? Well you’re going to find this difficult, because there are no budget luxury saloons in China. But, if Chinese people travel to the UK to buy clothes, watches, and other goods, then why can’t they do the same with cars?

Clarkson, Hammond and May head to Chongqing ‘…., the biggest city you’ve probably never heard of…’ Clarkson explains, to see if this is possible. They see if a Mercedes S 600, an old BMW 750iL, and a Cadillac STS have the chops to cut it in the Chinese city. Fire drones have also been hinted at, and of course, May’s outstanding fashion choices.

Episode 7 – Och Aye The Views

With classic car prices on the rise, Clarkson, Hammond and May find three classic cars which haven’t appreciate much compared to their more valuable brothers and sisters: an Alfa Romeo GTV6, a Lancia Gamma coupé and a Fiat X1/9.

To find out who’s chosen the best car, they drive to Scotland where the cars can truly be tested. If you didn’t want to go to Scotland before watching this episode, I’m sure you will after.

Episode 8 – Holiday Road

Campervanning has never been a favoured way of staying somewhere for the trio. But it’s been forced upon them by producer Andy Wilman for this episode. They will be given a lorry armed with bunk beds and sent to Nevada for a while.

Porter says this:

“… Having quickly had their worst suspicions confirmed, the presenters decide to abandon their shared RV and buy one each, which they can modify to suit their preferences and prejudices. Because what could go wrong with that? Apart from many things”.

This could very well be the crowd favourite due to its similarities to classic Top Gear challenges. Bring on episode 8!

Episode 9 – Aston, Astronauts, and Angelina’s Children

You’ve seen Mr May reveal his own Toyota Yaris GRMN. Not it turns out that this car is one of three hot hatches that the trio test during the tenth episode. Unfortunately, the boys are told they’re fat too old to drive these. We’ll see what happens when they test the GRMN against two of the best hot hatches in the world.

Porter says, “…after a bit of fun on the lesser-spotted Grand Tour rallycross track, the three are told to stop mucking about and get out there to see which of them can make their car seem the most appealing to millennials using slogans, stickers and the power of social media.”

This episode is going to be a lot of fun.

Episode 11 – A Grand Tour

Are you going to be driving from the shores Black Sea in Georgia to the edge of the Caspian Sea in Azerbaijan? No? Well who cares, the boys are giving you advice on which car to do it in anyway!

They take the new Aston Martin DBS, the new Bentley Continental GT and the rare (and also new) BMW 8-series on a grand tour to tell us which one really is up to the job. It’s a tough life, but someone has to live it. Expect to see plenty of incredible scenery, and a few fans who come to see the filming in person.

Episode 13 – The Flat Pack

Set in Mongolia, the trio is set down and told to wait for a delivery. The delivery turns out to be simply rations and a flat pack vehicle that they have to put together. Could this be James May’s dream come true? Possibly, as long as they don’t starve to death or kill each other.

“Just putting the damn thing together was enough to make James want to bludgeon Jeremy with an exhaust manifold and it went downhill from there,” Porter says.

Episode 14 – Funeral For A Ford

With rumours that Ford are no longer going to be producing saloons, the trio are extremely saddened. As is Porter.
