Check Out Daniel Ricciardo’s Red Bull F1 Homecoming Adventures Down Under

F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo is back in a Red Bull Formula 1 car. And he's back home in Australia, along with some friends, to test the car and make sure it's up to down under.

Danny Ric is back in a Red Bull and he’s taken a road trip down under. The Australian Formula 1 star joins the latest in the Red Bull Road Trip video series as the team gets ready for his home GP on April 1.

If you’re a bit confused, we’ll take a step back. F1 driver Ricciardo came back to Red Bull Racing after two disappointing seasons with Renault, and one lackluster and one horrific season with McLaren.

But Ricciardo didn’t take on a full-time spot with the team for 2023. Instead, he’s its “third driver.” Doing sim work, test weekends, and, crucially for us, PR work.

PR work like this Australian road trip video.

Latest Red Bull Road Trip Action

Red Bull Daniel Ricciardo Australia Road Trip

Red Bull has done a few F1 road trip videos already. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have raced across the U.S. in two separate videos . And Verstappen made the leap from the simulator to reality on real roads and dirt. Up against serious competition. Ricciardo drove his car to San Francisco back in 2018 in another one of the vids.

But the Red Bull F1 car has never before taken on the Outback.

The car needs to be tested on Australia’s toughest surfaces. From the Outback to the famous Mount Panorama circuit. That’s the idea, at least.

He’s not driving this year’s car. He’s driving a 2011 RB7 that he had sitting in the shed. At least that’s the story. Whatever the reason, it’s great to see that No. 3 on the nose of a blue-and-red racer again.

Daniel Ricciardo Heads Home to Australia

Red Bull Daniel Ricciardo Australia Road Trip

First up, Ricciardo tears up some dirt with off-road racer Daniel Sanders around his home in Perth. Then it’s herding cattle with his RB7 and a helicopter in the Outback.

It’s time for a pit stop in Broken Hill, New South Wales, where the team is playing cricket while they wait for him to arrive.

Onto the Sea Cliff Bridge — a stunning site that will be familiar to anyone who played Forza Horizon 3 . He’s joined by aerobatic pilot Matt Hall.

I won’t tell you the entire video, but I will tell you there’s time for some sightseeing and some souvenir shopping. And more guest stars including off-road racer Toby Price, Supercars driver Shane van Gisbergen, and plenty of local wildlife.

So watch the clip and get pumped for Red Bull Racing in the Australian Grand Prix this Sunday in Melbourne. Or is that Tuesday? Wait, it’s actually 1 a.m. Eastern Sunday morning, 10 p.m. Saturday evening Pacific. Darn dateline.

Runtime: 9 minutes

Red Bull Racing has taken an Australian F1 road trip

Ahead of this weekend’s 2023 australian grand prix, red bull racing’s daniel ricciardo has undertaken an epic outback adventure.

John Redfern

This weekend sees the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship head Down Under for the Australian Grand Prix.

Before the on-track action begins in Melbourne , Red Bull Racing has treated reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo to an epic homecoming.

In his first trip back to Australia following his return to the Red Bull team, Ricciardo took the championship-winning RB7 Formula 1 car on a road trip across some of Australia’s most challenging terrains.

Dusting the competition

Red Bull Racing Australian Homecoming

The road trip began in the heart of the Australian Outback, with Ricciardo meeting enduro motorbike riders Toby Price and Daniel Sanders.

At a cattle station, Ricciardo used the RB7 F1 racer to drift on dirt, before heading deeper into the dusty terrain.

In a scene more reminiscent of the Forza Horizon 3 video game , Ricciardo took on aerobatic pilot Matt Hall, at the iconic Sea Cliff Bridge in New South Wales.

This saw the RB7 pitched against the Hall’s aerobatic plane , tackling the twists and turns of the landmark stretch of road.

To the top of the mountain

Red Bull Racing Australian Homecoming

To complete the trip, the RB7 made an appearance at Australia’s most famous racetrack, Mount Panorama, home to the annual Bathurst 1000 race .

Here, Ricciardo went head-to-head with Australian Supercars Champion Shane van Gisbergen. The latest Gen3 Red Bull Ampol Chevrolet Camaro was used by van Gisbergen to demonstrate the best lines to take around the challenging Mount Panorama Circuit.

Following his Australian adventure, Ricciardo said: “After my first Red Bull Racing Road Trip in San Francisco, I’ve always wanted the opportunity to do this in Australia.”

He added: “To be back home, taking the RB7 across the Aussie outback, and sharing the best Australia has to offer with the world; what better way to celebrate my first F1 event at home since returning to Oracle Red Bull Racing.”

Watch F1's Daniel Ricciardo Grin Across the Outback in Red Bull's Championship RB7

Formula 1's favorite aussie takes a road trip across his home continent in the rb7, the car that gave vettel his second world championship in 2011..

There are a lot of Red Bull fans out there, and, well, a lot of former fans who have likely buried every piece of Red Bull attire in frustration after how the last two seasons of Formula 1 ended (looking at you Max Verstappen and Christian Horner ). But there is one ray of sunshine in the Red Bull garage this year: Daniel Ricciardo . The Aussie F1 driver returned to the iconic energy-drink team for 2023. Unfortunately, his toothy grin will be behind the scenes as the A-team’s test driver. However, with Ricciardo back at Red Bull, it looks like the team decided to take advantage of the sports’ most friendly and charismatic driver, and put him back on camera to run an old Red Bull F1 car through the Outback in his home country of Australia .

Related Content

You can’t help but smile at the opening shot of Ricciardo’s head bobbing inside the cockpit of an old RB7 car — the car Sebastien Vettel drove to a World Championship with Red Bull in 2011, the V8 screaming as Ricciardo passes a semi. Cut to Ricciardo’s wide grin front and center on a tractor as he’s on a video conference call with the team in what looks to be a mission control out of a spy film.

Ricciardo’s mission is to test the RB7 by taking it across the Australian continent. I’m not sure how this will help the team for the upcoming race weekend, since the car is completely different from today’s F1 car and well over a decade old. But we’re going to overlook this little bit of storyline to preserve the ruse.

Along Ricciardo’s Outback tour, he kicks up the dusty desert landscapes and winds along beautiful coastal roads — challenging Red Bull racers along the way, including Australian rally biker Daniel Sanders, aerobatic pilot Matt Hall, and New Zealand V8 Supercar driver Shane Van Gisbergen.

(There’s also quite the nod to Top Gun during the airplane race. We’ll allow it.)

While seeing Ricciardo return to Red Bull this year was a little disheartening for fans, this video might help folks warm up to the idea. Most F1 teams just don’t seem to know how to take advantage of Ricciardo’s goofy personality like Red Bull does, and that’s a darn shame.

Ricciardo may not be one of the 20 drivers on the grid this 2023 F1 season, but we’re glad to still have him in the paddock in some capacity. Hopefully we’ll see a few more fun stunts like this in the meantime.

The prodigal son has returned – in more ways than one – and to commemorate his first Formula 1 event on home turf since being re-welcomed into Red Bull Racing (albeit as a #3 driver), Daniel Ricciardo has undertaken an off-track road trip across Australia… in the championship-winning RB7 that earned Sebastian Vettel his second world title.

Joined by local talent ranging from Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen, off-road racers Toby Price and Daniel Sanders, to aerobatic pilot Matt Hall, the eight-time grand prix winner slipped back into the Red Bull cockpit to showcase our sunburnt country at its very finest.

“To be back home, taking the RB7 across the Aussie outback, and sharing the best Australia has to offer with the world; what better way to celebrate my first F1 event at home since returning to Oracle Red Bull Racing?”

Daniel Ricciardo drives his F1 car around Australia in epic off-track road trip

Australian Formula One star Daniel Ricciardo has made an exciting return to the cockpit as he raced his RB7 F1 car around the country in an epic off-track road trip.

In a video released on the Oracle Red Bull Racing YouTube channel ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, Ricciardo drives the F1 car along some classic Australian terrain and through the Australian outback.

WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Ricciardo drives his F1 car around Australia in epic off-track road trip.

Ricciardo was joined by Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen, off-road racers Toby Price and Daniel Sanders, and aerobatic pilot, Matt Hall, as he drove the championship-winning RB7 through iconic Australian locations, from Broken Hill to Sea Cliff Bridge, all the way to the home of Australian Supercars in Bathurst.

Ricciardo said he has always wanted to take the F1 car around Australia.

“After my first Red Bull Racing Road Trip in San Francisco, I’ve always wanted the opportunity to do this in Australia,” he said.

“To be back home, taking the RB7 across the Aussie outback, and sharing the best Australia has to offer with the world; what better way to celebrate my first F1 event at home since returning to Oracle Red Bull Racing.”

At one point during the “Daniel Ricciardo’s Great Aussie Road Trip” video, the 33-year-old duels with a helicopter flying narrowly overhead in a wild stunt.

Ricciardo then teams up with aerobatic pilot Matt Hall at the Sea Cliff Bridge in Wollongong as he flies around corners at death-defying speeds.

“There’s nothing that compares to the Aussie conditions; we had a lot of fun ripping through the outback and tearing across the Sea Cliff Bridge,” Ricciardo said.

Next on the off-track road trip, Ricciardo meets motorsports great Toby Price, in the Queensland countryside for an obstacle course.

Price’s mega Trophy Truck and Ricciardo’s RB7 drift and swerve through tractors, harvesters, bush chooks, Skippy and even a drop bear.

Ricciardo’s trip around Australia ends with a stop at Australia’s most famous racetrack - Mount Panorama – where Shane van Gisbergen leads the RB7 around the track in his Red Bull Ampol Camaro, giving the F1 car a taste of Australia’s most treacherous circuit.

After being controversially dumped by McLaren with a year left on his contract, Ricciardo opted to sit out the Formula 1 season and returned to Red Bull as a reserve driver.

Daniel Ricciardo was back behind the wheel of a Red Bull Formula 1 car in scenes that simply defy belief.

In the lead up to the Australian Grand Prix, Ricciardo jumped back into the seat of an RB7 and put the F1 car through its paces on terrain it’s never encountered before.

Far from the long and windy roads around Albert Park, the 33-year-old was blazing a dust trail across the Australian outback.

In a video posted by Red Bull titled Daniel Ricciardo’s Great Aussie Road Trip , the Perth native shows off his driving prowess.

Having become notorious for their wildish antics, Red Bull delivered in the nine-minute long video with some movie like scenes being captured.

Ricciardo at one point tries to outmanoeuvre a helicopter buzzing narrowly overhead that is attempting to herd him like cattle.

Joining the absurd antics in the video are fellow Red Bull athletes Daniel Sanders, Matt Hall, Toby Price and Shane van Gisbergen.

Hall, an air race pilot, flies over the F1 car as it crosses the Sea Cliff Bridge in Wollongong before Ricciardo moves on to Bondi Beach.

Matt Hall flies over Ricciardo. YouTube

But it’s the sight of the Red Bull flying around Australia’s most famous track that is truly a sight to behold.

The Formula 1 car tears up the track as it scorches around Mount Panorama following hot on the heels of Supercars driver van Gisbergen.

“After my first Red Bull Racing Road Trip in San Francisco, I’ve always wanted the opportunity to do this in Australia,” Ricciardo said in a press release.

“To be back home, taking the RB7 across the Aussie outback, and sharing the best Australia has to offer with the world; what better way to celebrate my first F1 event at home since returning to Oracle Red Bull Racing.”

Ricciardo returned to Red Bull after being unceremoniously dumped by McLaren despite having a year left on his contract.

Rather than secure a seat with a smaller team and stay on the grid at the expense of his not-insignificant paycheck, He opted for a reserve role with Red Bull, returning to the team with whom he twice finished third in the World Championship and won seven Grands Prix.

While he won’t be on the grid this weekend at Albert Park, he will be in the paddock as Red Bull’s reserve driver.

“This is the first year in as long as I can remember that my goals aren’t going to be 100% about racing and competing,” he wrote on LinkedIn.

“I’m back in an environment and ultimately a family that I have a lot of good memories with, and it feels really good to be back there.

“But it’s not about me this year, it’s about the wider team and trying to contribute and help them where I can.

“Jumping into the simulator, learning their car and helping shape the development are all things I’m focused on doing.

“In turn that will develop my abilities, my confidence and my enjoyment behind the wheel.”

The decision to award a drive-through penalty in Melbourne has had a sickening fallout for an F1 great.

Formula One’s silly season has officially begun, with a shock announcement set to trigger a flurry of team signing movement.

Red Bull’s worst fears have been realised with the team’s legendary guru dropping a bomb over the so-called “sext” scandal.
