The celebrations began at the 69 th Sanremo Festival, where the trio reached the podium with the song “Musica che resta” (written, among others, by Gianna Nannini). Subsequently, 22 February saw the release of the album “Music” (Sony Music), produced by Canova, and their tour through Europe, Japan and America began. On 8 November 2019, “ 10 Years ” (Sony Music) was released worldwide , the best of Il Volo including the DVD Live in Matera. The world tour that should have followed the album came to a halt after a few months due to the health emergency that forced Il Volo to head home early from the USA in March 2020. During the health emergency, Il Volo kept fans from all over the world company with their music, appearing as guests at the most important world streaming events, keeping an important sense of community alive and remembering the need to respect the rules of the health emergency in every country. The tour in Italy and abroad was postponed to 2022. Being unable to perform live allowed Il Volo to concentrate intensely on their new project, working on Maestro Morricone’s repertoire. On 1 November 2020, the trio opened the “ Formula 1 Emirates Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna ” singing the Italian national anthem. 2021 began with Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble guests of the Sanremo Festival with an emotional performance in honour of Ennio Morricone. On 5 June they performed for the first time on live television in the prime-time slot on RAI 1 from the Verona Arena with the great event “IL VOLO – Tribute to ENNIO MORRICONE” racking up a record audience with 4,702,000 spectators, equal to a 25.8% share. This was the only Il Volo concert in Italy in 2021. The concert was also broadcast in the autumn on the major US public broadcaster PBS – Public Broadcasting Service . The group joined Vittorio Storaro to take part in the 78th Venice International Film Festival. October 2021 saw the release of their new single “Ecstasy of Gold” (from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly), accompanied for the first time by lyrics in English written specifically for Il Volo by Andrea Morricone. This anticipated the new album “IL VOLO SINGS MORRICONE” (Epic/Sony Music) released worldwide on 5 November, a whirlwind journey through the art of one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century. After the postponements due to the pandemic, IL VOLO will resume their world tour on 15 May 2022 with the concert at the Gran Teatre Del Liceu in Barcelona. Beforehand, they will be guests at the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 which will take place in Turin. www.ilvolomusic.com

hello, my wife and I have not ever attended a live performance of ll Divo but it is her dream to see them live, she has terminal bone cancer and also mixed dementia and would love to see them whilst she is still fit enough to travel so when and if they ever come to England could you or someone let me know.

Il Volo was the most fantastic show I have ever seen. I have been to four of their concerts in 6 years and their voices keep getting better all the time. I saw them in D C two weeks ago and then again in Orlando this past week. The shows were slightly different. My husband had never been to one of their concerts and he said "the music penetrated my body...their voices are the best I ever heard."

I know all of the Italian words to their songs, yet do not understand what I am saying. I am an Il Volo fanatic!!!!

Love the boys, oops! Young men now. Been listening to them since they first started. Beautiful, extremely talented, personable. Their voices are heaven sent. If there is one thing I’d change it is the orchestra’s volume. It seems as if they are in competition with the guys instead of supporting them. At times you have to strain to hear the vocals above the instruments. Thank heavens the guys have strong enough voices to compensate. However, I don’t think they should have to. We go to their shows to hear them, not the orchestra. In all honesty, they could sing a cappella and be just as good.

And here we are finally on the night of the concert., i too bought my ticket to participate in the streaming, but since here in italy it will be 02:15 am, i didn’t think i would see it …………… instead at 03:20 am i woke up and then i tried to connect, and it was wonderful, from my way to the end i saw every moment, the image and the sound were perfect, i felt like i had il volo singing in my home, wonderful ❤, i would have liked to attach the video of the entire concert that my friend carmen from il volo in clase made, but unfortunately, the video was blocked., there were the first images of the beginning, what emotion, the concert was amazing, the beautiful and large sunrise arena was full of people in crazy love for il volo., ignazio, piero and gianluca, beautiful in their white suits and also very excited., the audience greeted them with a roar. ❤, the lineup of songs is slightly varied, some songs in spanish have been included, which i really like and which i propose to you in these videos., historia de un amor, historia de un amor – click here.

I just joined this IL Volo Flight Crew and am so very impressed with the website and especially the wealth of information available in English translation. I just discovered IL VOLO this year and am now an avid fan. I just love listening to IL VOLO every day and watching them perform. I was fortunate enough to see them in Clearwater, FL on Oct. 7, 2022 and on livestreaming from Sunrise, FL on Oct. 9. I huge thank you to all who created and are maintaining this wonderful website. Daniela, great post and great pictures. I can’t get over how much healthier Ignacio looks with his added weight. Hopefully, he can keep it at this level. He says he’s happy and that’s the important part. Am curious which one felt the relationship had to end or maybe it was mutual and amicable. Since he seems to be an emotional type, he needs and deserves a very loyal and dedicated gal, also because he is so active and on tour a lot, I think. In time the right will appear.

Mark, I would say that Ignazio is in excellent shape and I’m sure he is happy, otherwise you would read unhappiness on his face, he can’t hide it. Certainly, for the terrible period Ignazio was going through, Ana Paula was very precious, but perhaps she was not the girl for all his life.

Great post, Daniela and Pat!! I loved reliving that beautiful concert. I know it’s all been said, but they just keep getting better and better, yet remain their true, kind hearted, genuine selves, no matter what they are doing. ❤ How thoughtful of them to do this for the hurricane relief efforts.

Dear Jane, I’m so glad you watched the live stream of the concert, it was wonderful. Thank you for the nice compliments, it’s always nice to be able to relive the concerts by reading other points of view as well, it seems to lengthen the beautiful vision. It’s true our boys with hearts of gold are getting better and better. A hug to you and your family!

It’s over😪 and the guys are on their way to Australia and New Zealand. They have a grueling 18 hour flight ahead of them with one layover in Brisbane. The concert is the next night so I hope they get some well deserved sleep on the plane. Barbara said they had to be at LAX 4 hours before their flight. It was an exciting concert with 2 special guests. A singer named Isabella (not familiar with her) and one of the guys from Pentatonix, he sang Hallelujah with all 3 of the guys. It was absolutely magical, lots of goosebumps in the theater during that song. I was fortunate to have a front row center thanks to Joanie my Il Volo dear friend. Meet and Greet was very quick because they had to get ready for their flight this morning. We are all now suffering from Il Volo depression this morning knowing that are gone. Next year they will do a South American tour, lucky fans. Thanks Daniela and Pat. You make us happy.

RoseMarie, I hear you sad, it’s true, they said goodbye to everyone and left for Australia and this is a cause for sadness. However you have seen some great concerts this year and that just has to make you smile, and remember how many good times you have seen. I saw the videos last night with the singers Isabela and with Scott, and I liked them a lot and I like that Il Volo does these mixes, because the guys know how to blend with anyone and are not afraid of comparisons. So you were with Joanie, and you’ve seen Judith too. You spent a beautiful evening admiring and listening to three young artists: Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca. A hug.

Daniela, To make the Sunrise live-stream happen in 3 days was a miracle. I shed tears of joy as the three angels in their white suits emerged to open. They are truly blessed in their generous support of the victims of Hurricane Ian. We all wanted to help, and they made it happen! Great camera/sound. I already told Pat that I was so happy she got to see it, as well as others who could not make it to a performance during this tour.

Yes, Martha, the idea of live streaming was fantastic, all those who could not attend concerts saw them live, and then the charity, I am very proud of our guys and the idea was them, not of the staff. I love them!

Hi Linda, when you said “the Mike” did you mean the microphone? I don’t remember seeing anything in the videos coming down from the ceiling. In which video did you see it? I’d to see it too, especially if it hilarious! 😂

Pat, it’s in the Clearwater “Funny Moments” video. And yes, he dropped to the floor.. And you could see Piero and Gian really laughing because they finally surprised him!

Linda, thanks for pointing out that video, I laughed a lot when I saw it. My opinion is that Piero organized everything and Ignazio and Gianluca knew nothing, in fact Gianluca approaches Piero and seems to ask “did you organize this?”. Yes, it is from the three of them, to do these things, to make surprises to be able to see their reaction and even make fun of themselves!

Thanks for all of your amazing summaries of the concerts! I wasn’t able to go to the show in Atlantic City this time around, but did live stream the concert from Miami. Does anyone know how much money they raised for the Red Cross Florida?

Lois, I would also like to know how much money they raised for charity, but the amount is not known, but I think, from the enthusiastic comments of the guys, and considering the generosity of all the volovers, that’s a lot!

Talking about the boys I think is all of our favourite topic – I have heard of people flying over from New Zealand to be at the concerts here in Australia – I am from Queensland roughly about 60 kilometres South West of Brisbane & near the Amberly Airforce base – although I can’t see the boys in concert because I have an Atrium problem with my heart – just watching them on “YouTube” & “Facebook” lifts my soul – I worry about their personal happiness though – the relationship they have with that special girl will need to be someone very worthy of them – they are – from what I can see very – sensitive kind & well mannered – no wonder everyone around the Globe loves them – thank you Daniela & Pat for the great effort you put into this extraorinary website – much appreciation – JudeR

It’s true Jude, the fans of Il Volo, are willing to take long flights, just to see them, because between Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca and their fans, there is not only admiration, there is much more, a deep affection, a camaraderie that makes them feel like children, grandchildren, brothers, in short, people to respect and love.

Ciao, Daniela and Pat. This was an exceptional post, with so much in it–great videos and photos–that I’m still saving some of the interviews for later, but wanted to write you now and thank you! What a thrill our 3rd row seats (and my first Meet and Greet) in Clearwater were, plus the Sunrise live-streamed concert. But I have to say that even though the theater in Clearwater was so much smaller than the arena in Sunrise, we were a hot audience and applauded and hollered and stood up with the best of them! Il Volo Sings Morricone is comprised of 14 songs that recall the Maestro’s legendary melodies from “The Ecstasy of Gold” (from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly), featuring new lyrics written specifically for the trio by Ennio Morricone’s son, Andrea Morricone to “Your Love” (from Once Upon a Time in the West). Another highlight is “I colori dell’amore” (“The Colors of Love”), an unreleased track composed by Andrea for the trio, which was unexpectedly performed live for the first time at The Arena di Verona on June 5, 2021. But it’s just the beginning. On April 20, their new world tour will start from China and then move to Japan. It will then touch the main European capitals in autumn and will arrive in the USA, Canada and Latin America in 2025.

Billboard Italy met them on a rainy morning at the end of March in Milan. They joke with each other from the start, except when they reflect on what their music means to their audience.

What determined this change of approach?

Gianluca : After great projects in recent years, especially the tribute to Ennio Morricone, we thought the time had come to sing original songs. We wanted to try to be ourselves 100%. Being an interpreter is great, but singing your own songs is a completely different thing. The songwriters got to know us personally because they came to our concerts. We tried to make a real concept album, very diverse, with an intro and an outro. The album perfectly reflects who we are. Well, some songs reflect one or the other of us in particular. We want to demonstrate that diversity is our strength.

Which song represents each of you the most?

Piero : I too would say “Ad Astra,” then “Saturno e Venere” featuring Irama. We immediately got on well in the studio with him, despite coming from different worlds, and we saw the way he writes his songs. Irama thinks of the melody first, then the words come. It was very fascinating to watch him at work. I also really love “Opera” for the message it sends: try to live your days without thinking too much about tomorrow. It is in small gestures that we must seek happiness.

What’s the most important message you would like to convey to young people who feel under pressure?

Piero : Always look for enthusiasm in what you do, always persevere by pursuing your passions, without putting money first.

Gianluca : I’d say the meaning of the Latin expression “Per aspera ad astra” [“to the stars, through difficulties”]: you cannot achieve great results if you don’t sacrifice yourself. The main problem for young people, but also for adults, is not knowing themselves enough. That way, you don’t feel a sense of purpose.

What kept you together for so long?

Ignazio : We could say the love for music, but that would be too obvious. It is the awareness that our strength lies in our unity and our diversity. As soloists we would never be the same.

Do you feel respected by other artists?

What is the most significant international tour you have done?

Piero : Definitely Japan, where we’ll be returning in a few weeks. We can’t wait. Our music genre gave us the opportunity to have unique, unrepeatable experiences. Last year they wanted us for the inauguration of the Kiyomizu-dera temple in Kyoto, a world heritage site immersed in a forest. We sang between the columns, dressed in white. The emotion was indescribable. Japan is a destination that we recommend to everyone: it showed us how we should behave, always. Respect for others, even for strangers, is an essential value there.

You said that at one of your concerts you initially thought the audience had fallen asleep.

Ignazio : The Japanese close their eyes to concentrate. At the end, however, everyone gets up and wants to come and say hello on stage – strictly waiting for the right moment, of course. Even the way of clapping is different, it’s quieter.

What have been the biggest sacrifices of these 15 years?

Gianluca : Sacrifices are constant, especially in terms of homesickness, despite we do what we love most. There were moments when we didn’t know what to do, like the year before we won Sanremo. In 2014 we kept changing record companies and didn’t know which path to take. With this new album we want to show who we are even more.

And the best moments?

Gianluca : There are many. The victory of Sanremo 2015, the tour with Barbra Streisand, the “We Are The World for Haiti” concert in 2010. But this last edition of Sanremo was also a way to show how much we have grown as artists.

What’s the most unexpected feature you would like to have in one of your songs?

Piero : Lazza, also because he’s very good at playing piano.

Piero Barone , Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble made their debut in 2009 as individual participants on the talent show “ Ti lascio una canzone ” , on the Italian TV channel RAI 1, where they were spotted by Michele Torpedine, the manager that launched the careers of Andrea Bocelli, Zucchero, Giorgia and Biagio Antonacci, who decided to work for them and with them on their international artistic journey, counting on their extraordinary vocal talents both individually and as a trio: in an extremely short space of time, they became the first Italian artists in history to sign a contract with a major American record label, Geffen Records.

Their self-titled debut album, “ Il Volo ” (2010), went platinum and entered the US Billboard Top Ten. They appeared on major European and American television shows, including The Tonight Show, American Idol, Good Morning America, the Today Show, Watten Das in Germany and the MDA Labor DAY Telethon by Jerry Lewis, and were present alongside Unicef at the Venice Film Festival for children in the Horn of Africa.

Selling over a million copies of their “ Special Christmas Edition ” (2010), along with their first international tour and the broadcast of the first of their television specials, which have been repeated over a thousand times, turned them into global superstars!

Also in 2010, they were the only Italian artists invited by Quincy Jones to “We Are The World for Haiti” , together with 80 international stars including Celine Dion, Bono, Lady Gaga, Carlos Santana, Barbra Streisand, Enrique Iglesias, Usher, Natalie Cole and Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas.

They were nominated for two Latin Grammy awards for their releases. They embarked on a memorable twelve-concert tour with Barbra Streisand in the US and Canada (2012), which preceded the duets recorded from their second album “ We Are Love ” (2012) with Placido Domingo and Eros Ramazzotti, while the live album “ Il Volo Takes Flight ” and the album “ Il Volo ” occupied the top and second spots in the Billboard Classical Crossover chart.

In 2013, advance tickets went on sale for their first concert at the Radio City Music Hall in New York , and they sold 1600 tickets in just 8 hours (the concert sold out within a few days). This event kicked off their tour of the US, Canada, Central and South America, with 50 sold-out concerts, confirming Il Volo as the rising stars of operatic pop. “ Buon Natale – The Christmas Album ” was their third studio album to be released worldwide and contains some of the best-known Christmas classics. The trio took part in the big Christmas Concert in the Upper Basilica of Assisi, broadcast by RAI 1 on 25 December after the Pope’s Holy Mass.

In 2014, they received the Latin Pop Albums Artist of the Year, Duo or Group award at the Latin Billboard Awards in Miami .

On 21 December, the three young artists had the privilege of performing in a charity concert in the Chamber of the Senate of the Republic in Palazzo Madama, broadcast live on RAI 1 , after the Angelus of Pope Francis from St. Peter’s Square.

2015 saw them dominate the music scene. Il Volo won the 2015 Sanremo Festival with the song “Grande Amore” and SONY published their EP “ Sanremo Grande Amore ” which brought together famous songs from the history of the Festival reinterpreted with a contemporary, international twist. After their triumph at Sanremo 2015, the success of Il Volo was unstoppable: the group reached #1 on iTunes with their EP, single and accompanying video (which racked up record views on the web) and went straight in at the top of the FIMI/Gfk charts ranking the bestselling albums and singles with “Sanremo Grande Amore” and “Grande Amore” respectively, the former going Double Platinum and the latter Platinum.

Il Volo represented Italy at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest and the European television audience rewarded the group, giving it the top spot in the public phone vote, also continuing to support it in the sales charts: the single “ Grande Amore ” and the album “ Sanremo Grande Amore ” actually went straight to number one on the iTunes charts of the Eurovision countries. The public’s great fondness for the group was also demonstrated by the audience figures during the trio’s performance in the final, with theirs being the most watched of the evening. The public were not the only ones enthusiastic about Il Volo. Music critics also expressed positive opinions, presenting the trio with the prestigious Marcel Besançon Award 2015, voted for by the international press. Around the same time, the group’s fourth studio album “ L’amore si muove ” , was released by SONY in 45 countries, reaching the top of the charts in just a few days and allowing Il Volo to spend a long period in the Italian and international charts with three CD/DVD releases, while sales of their book “ Un’avventura straordinaria ” , published by Rizzoli, continued to rise.

The 2015 Italian tour took the trio’s concerts to the most prestigious venues, including Pompeii , where the extraordinary event was recorded by the US national television network PBS and broadcast in all states. The tour ended on 21 September at the Verona Arena and was broadcast live on RAI 1. It marked the start of an extremely long tour in the US and South America and a European tour that sold out in the major capitals.

2016 and 2017 were years dedicated to the “ Notte magica ” project, a tribute to the 1990 THREE TENORS event starring José Carreras, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti.

Piazza Santa Croce in Florence was the extraordinary setting for the “ Notte Magica – A Tribute to the Three Tenors ” concert, broadcast on Italian television on Canale 5, with the extraordinary participation of Placido Domingo , who has always been a true admirer of the group, taking part as a conductor. This concert marked the beginning of a triumphant world tour which in 2017, after 15 sold-out dates in the US, saw the group perform approximately 25 dates in Italy with equally successful sales, then continuing with a tour in Latin America and around the world. As well as being shown on primetime television on Canale 5, “ Notte magica ” was also filmed and broadcast in the US by the national PBS television network, as well as in over 500 cinemas in Italy and around the world. The worldwide publication of the CD and DVD containing the live recording of the concert went four times platinum in Italy. The numbers speak for themselves: few if any Italian artists have achieved the scale of global success reached by Il Volo.

In 2018, the group embarked on an international tour in Japan and Eastern Europe (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Croatia). They met with peacekeeping forces in Lebanon at UNIFIL bases and dedicated their Christmas concert to them at the SHAMA base and at the Tyre Theatre, broadcast by RAI 1 on 25 December with very high audience figures. Their end-of-year tribute in the programme “L’anno che verrà”, broadcast by RAI 1 on 31 December, met with similar public appreciation.

On Saturday 26 January 2019, the Italian trio performed in Panama on the occasion of the XXXIV World Youth Day, in front of Pope Francis and over a million people, during the vigil ceremony, in Campo San Juan Pablo II. The event was broadcast worldwide. A date that came after another great artistic and human adventure: in December 2018, Il Volo spent a few days at the UNIFIL base in Tyre, Lebanon , to support the Italian troops on a peace mission.

Il Volo received the Gold Creator Award that YouTube presents to channels with more than 1 million subscribers.

2019 marked ten years in the business for Il Volo. The celebrations began at the 69 th Sanremo Festival, where the trio reached the podium with the song “Musica che resta” (written, among others, by Gianna Nannini). Subsequently, 22 February saw the release of the album “Music” (Sony Music), produced by Canova, and their tour through Europe, Japan and America began. On 8 November 2019, “ 10 Years ” (Sony Music) was released worldwide , the best of Il Volo including the DVD Live in Matera. The world tour that should have followed the album came to a halt after a few months due to the health emergency that forced Il Volo to head home early from the USA in March 2020.

During the health emergency, Il Volo kept fans from all over the world company with their music, appearing as guests at the most important world streaming events, keeping an important sense of community alive and remembering the need to respect the rules of the health emergency in every country.

The tour in Italy and abroad was postponed to 2022.

Being unable to perform live allowed Il Volo to concentrate intensely on their new project, working on Maestro Morricone’s repertoire.

On 1 November 2020, the trio opened the “ Formula 1 Emirates Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna ” singing the Italian national anthem.

2021 began with Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble guests of the Sanremo Festival with an emotional performance in honour of Ennio Morricone.

On 5 June they performed for the first time on live television in the prime-time slot on RAI 1 from the Verona Arena with the great event “IL VOLO – Tribute to ENNIO MORRICONE” racking up a record audience with 4,702,000 spectators, equal to a 25.8% share. This was the only Il Volo concert in Italy in 2021. The concert was also broadcast in the autumn on the major US public broadcaster PBS – Public Broadcasting Service .

The group joined Vittorio Storaro to take part in the 78th Venice International Film Festival.

October 2021 saw the release of their new single “Ecstasy of Gold” (from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly), accompanied for the first time by lyrics in English written specifically for Il Volo by Andrea Morricone. This anticipated the new album “IL VOLO SINGS MORRICONE” (Epic/Sony Music) released worldwide on 5 November, a whirlwind journey through the art of one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century.

In May Il Volo has been guest at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

After the postponements due to the pandemic, from Spring their world tour has started and IL VOLO performed in 4 continents: in the most prestigious Italian venues (Arena of Verona and Ancient Theatre of Taormina), most important European cities, Japan, Australia, Canada and USA (among the others Radio City Music Hall)

In November IL VOLO releases a new Christmas single, cover of the famous song HAPPY XMAS (WAR IS OVER) by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

They are actually working on the Christmas concert in Jerusalem, which will be broadcast on the Italian TV channel Canale 5 on December 24.
