We Asked AI to Take Us On a Tour of Our Cities. It Was Chaos

An image of a globe with thumbtacks placed at different locations.

With high hopes of finding some hidden gems in our home cities and $100 (£77) each burning a hole in our pockets, we—Natasha Bernal in London and Amanda Hoover in New York—asked AI to plan out the perfect day.

We decided to use Littlefoot, an AI-powered local discovery chatbot that can generate experiences in 161 cities around the world. It was created by Bigfoot, a startup founded by former Airbnb executives Alex Ward, James Robinson, and Shane Lykins that purports to enmesh the minds of all the publicly available AI chatbots, including ChatGPT, Claude, Llama, Anthropic, and Perplexity, in addition to 50 information sources such as Tripadvisor and Google. Bigfoot claims to use three different language models as “AI agents” to create itineraries.

We told Littlefoot our respective starting points, dates, and times, and introduced some caveats: Amanda asked that her New York tour be dog-friendly; Natasha was obsessed with avoiding London’s crowded tourist hotspots.

The results were, frankly, rather mad. Right now, Littlefoot has no concept of time or space or what a human being might find interesting. Its recommendations vary wildly from the incredibly niche (climbing up a hill in South East London) to the wildly vague (going to the London Zoo, no further instruction provided). The same attractions—such as the London Eye, the Namco Funscape arcade in Romford, a cycling studio in Brooklyn—kept coming up in recommendations, to the point that we suspected it might be paid-for advertising. (Bigfoot has confirmed that is not the case and that it has no plans to offer sponsored picks.)

It recommended back-to-back gym sessions in London, a concert and helicopter tour in New York that were out of our budget, restaurants for lunch that didn’t open until dinner time, and itineraries that would have sent us criss-crossing around our respective cities. In London, Bigfoot’s map function showed two out of the four suggested destinations in completely wrong locations, an issue that the company says it is working on.

“While we expect to face typical challenges associated with an early company, we are confident in our ability to meet them as we acquire more resources and continue to refine our approach based on user feedback,” says Bigfoot CEO Alex Ward. “We’re a preseed startup of six, and itineraries aren’t meant to be perfect just yet. But we are working to do everything we can to get there in the not-too-distant future.”

Bigfoot says its features—which are currently very contingent on the location you provide and how you phrase what you’re looking for—have been tested by 70 to 80 alpha users this year, and the company is refining the platform based on feedback.

A Day Around London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

I picked a day centered around the 560-acre sporting village, which features pedal boats, a track cycling arena, and tennis courts. I had never been before and assumed it would be great fun. It wasn’t.

My day started at 10 am at WIRED’s office in Central London. The first stop was in East London, to eat at a place called Pizza Union, which didn’t open until 11 and which Littlefoot claimed had slices priced £6. (It was wrong.) Armed with Google and a comrade, fellow Londoner and WIRED staffer Sophie Johal, I marched to the underground for a 3-mile trip to Aldgate East, a place I can confidently say no one goes to voluntarily.

Priscila, Queen of the Rideshare Mafia

We stalled until the pizza place opened. I ordered a margarita pizza pie and a bottle of water, and we sat on a wooden bench on the sidewalk, complete with a view of a strip club called White’s. I choked a bit on an inordinately crispy piece of basil.

Then we walked just over a mile to the next stop, the historic Borough food market, near London Bridge. On the way, in the 17th-century church of Saint Magnus the Martyr, we found a 2,000-year-old crusty-looking wooden log randomly tucked in under the entrance way. Were it not for this trip, we might have lived our entire lives never having seen it.

Across London Bridge, we arrived at the market, where we had to navigate around bag-wearing people and other obstacles to find Horn OK Please, a random Indian street-food stall that happened to be one of the only vegetarian eateries in the entire place. We stood next to a trash bin at around midday and ate dosa chaat (a wrap filled with masala potatoes, onion, coriander, and chutneys). I was sweating profusely, felt like I had eaten a brick, and began to worry about whether I would make it to the Olympic Village at all.

We jumped back on the tube and headed in a circle to Trafalgar Square—2 miles away and five minutes from WIRED’s office. We stood in a crowded queue for 10 minutes outside the National Gallery, and after seeing some familiar public art from the likes of Degas, Murillo, Raphael, and Gainsborough, rewarded ourselves with treats from the gift shop (some badges featuring Van Gogh and Manet artwork and the museum logo, and a chocolate coin—the only things we could afford on our budget).

Back on the tube, I took the Elizabeth Line—opened in 2022—for my first time ever, to get to Stratford and the Olympic Park. Severely tired and dehydrated, I led us beyond mega-supermall Westfield, which overlooked a gigantic car park, to a not-very-scenic path near blocks of flats. By that point, we had figured out that the pedal boats weren’t working, that you had to take a training course for the cycling track, and that the tennis courts were unaffordable on our meager remaining budget.

There was no sign of the hideous steel Orbit Tower , or anything else noteworthy for that matter—we just saw blocks of midrise flats and a rather large park. Invoking the spirit of the Olympics and taking advantage of the fact that we were practically alone, we attempted to complete an obstacle course in a nearby fitness playground. (We got stuck on the equipment a few times.)

And that’s how we ended up lost near the Wetlands Walk close to the River Lea, cycling around on the only available rental e-bike I could find. Unfortunately it could only travel at breakneck speed, so I spent about 20 minutes screaming in genuine fear as I hurtled back and forth through the same bit of stinky swampland, with Sophie perched precariously on the fender like a human pannier.

I gave up attempting to find anywhere after it started to pelt down rain, and realized I had paid £6 for the e-bike, for the pleasure of going absolutely nowhere. We never even found the bike track, and were too exhausted to go to our final stop, six miles away at Bradley’s Spanish Bar. Instead I had an ice cream (two scoops: one straciatella, the other chocolate and hazelnut) at a place near the station. I had a cuppa, and at £64 spent, called it a day.

In the darkest moments, I would have described the itinerary as a teeny bit evil and a lot pointless. It would take two minutes with an internet connection to come up with a better plan, but it would not be as chaotic and random—and ultimately unforgettable.

As soon as I got home, I asked ChatGPT to come up with a rival day: It suggested a cultural walk along the South Bank, winding around Big Ben and the London Eye, with stops to enjoy some art and culture along the way. It made sense, but a small part of me—the same one that screeched in delight at seeing a giant slide that we could go on—wonders whether there was some magic in Littlefoot’s mundane (and inane) picks.

A Day Around Washington Square Park and Central Park in New York

I wanted to see whether Littlefoot could do something a little challenging: Plan a day around Manhattan that I could bring my dog, a 22-pound poodle mix named Charlie, along on. Turns out, it couldn’t.

The app gave me recommendations for a park in New Jersey that wasn’t accessible without a car and two restaurants with the word “dog” in the name—although I’m not sure dogs would be allowed inside—and repeatedly tried to persuade me to take a spin class in Brooklyn, I’m assuming because the word “friendly” was in the description. It also highlighted an expensive helicopter tour of Manhattan when I asked for outdoor activities and, at one point, a Noah Kahan concert (sold out, with only pricey resale tickets available).

Sifting through the options took some work and reprompting. Some of the restaurants recommended were closed at the times Littlefoot suggested I go, and they would send me between the city’s boroughs, or even further out of my way—even when I asked for a day in Manhattan that was completely accessible by subway.

I combined and pruned two itineraries to save myself some agony of hours on the subway. I left Harlem at around 8 am and headed to my first stop: the Obelisk in Central Park, a 3,500-year-old monument brought over from Egypt. Charlie was particularly happy with this plan, as we made it to the park during off-leash hours, and he was free to roam the greenery and trails with other dogs.

We walked a mile across Manhattan’s Upper East Side to get to Claire’s Kitchen Cafe, a tiny Mediterranean-inspired spot with outdoor seating that Littlefoot had recommended. It definitely wasn’t a tourist trap, but rather a neighborhood spot. I had a cream cheese and smoked salmon breakfast sandwich and a latte, both of which were good, but not necessarily something I would travel to a new neighborhood to eat.

Charlie and I took the subway downtown and got off near Washington Square Park, our next suggested stop. The park was quieter than normal on a weekday morning, although I saw some probable TikTokkers running up to people on benches to interview them. We walked past the iconic archway and fountain, and stopped at the dog park, where I threw a tennis ball for Charlie.

We got back on the subway and rode to the AI-recommended 9/11 Memorial & Museum—a somber stop mixed in with all the recommendations for parks and pubs. With my dog in tow, I couldn’t go into the museum, but we did walk around the memorial, and Charlie made a few friends with tourists there.

Our last stop was at the Dead Rabbit for lunch. It was a quirky Irish pub with upscale bar food and drinks, and a bunch of dollar bills taped to the shelves holding liquor. It’s been deemed the best bar in the world by some, and luckily, it was dog-friendly, with one little table out front that was empty when I arrived. I had a burger and a drink, which ran me about $50 with tip. (Charlie slept at my feet during lunch, undisturbed by nearby construction sounds, but completely knocked out.)

About five hours later, I was exhausted and had spent $90 between the subway and food. We had traveled from Harlem, toward the top of Manhattan, to the Financial District at the bottom, taking five trains and walking 5 miles to hit Littlefoot’s recommended spots. I had to rely on my own knowledge of the city to create the most efficient route between the various recommendations provided by Littlefoot.

Afterward, I ran a similar prompt through Perplexity’s chatbot, and found an itinerary with more details about prices and how to get around. This wasn’t perfect, either. It recommended I take Charlie to Manhattan’s iconic High Line, which doesn’t allow dogs, and gave vague advice about buying a bagel from a street vendor “nearby” Central Park. But it did give recommendations in several known parts of the city that would keep me under budget.

Littlefoot got me to try some new restaurants and explore some new corners of famous parks—plus, it got me out of the house and away from my routine. But had I followed its recommendations exactly, I may have ended up going to Brooklyn or Queens to find restaurants with their doors closed, or gone way over budget on some experiences. AI might have some new recommendations, but until the technology improves, I’d rather just ask a fellow New Yorker where to go.

Copenhagen Tries Rewards for Good Tourist Behavior

The Danish capital is offering free museum tours, art workshops and more to visitors who take part in climate-friendly initiatives.

In front of a street lined with colorful buildings with red-tiled roofs, a canal is lined with umbrellas and tables filled with people. In the foreground, four young women in jackets sit on a wall overlooking the canal.

A new fee for Venice day trippers. A looming ban on vacation rentals in Barcelona. Restrictions on the sale of alcohol in Majorca. At a time when overwhelmed European destinations are slapping tourists with restrictions and fees, Copenhagen is trying a different approach: rewarding visitors who act responsibly.

Beginning July 15, tourists who demonstrate climate-friendly travel behavior by participating in the city’s green initiatives — including cycling, train travel and clean-up efforts — will be granted access to museum tours, kayak rentals, free meals and more.

“We must turn tourism from being an environmental burden into a force for positive change,” said Mikkel Aarø-Hansen, the chief executive of Wonderful Copenhagen , the tourism organization for the Capital Region of Denmark. An important step in this transformation, he said, “is to change how we move around on the destination, what we consume, and how we interact with the locals.”

On average, 81 percent of consumers say they want to act more sustainably, but only 22 percent have changed their behavior, according to a 2023 sustainable report by Kanter, a London-based market research group. Copenhagen’s new initiative, CopenPay, aims to bridge the gap between the desire to act sustainably and actual behavior by making climate-friendly action a currency for cultural experiences.

For instance, those who arrive by bike or train at CopenHill, an artificial ski slope built on top of a new waste-management center, will be able to go down the rooftop hill for free. Other sites will allow visitors to volunteer in cleanup efforts. The National Gallery of Denmark will hold workshops to turn plastic waste into pieces of art, while the Copenhagen Surf School will offer a free lunch to surfers who take part in 30 minutes of beach cleaning after their surf course. More than 20 attractions will be participating in the pilot program over the summer.

“Our vision with CopenPay is to create a ripple effect,” Mr. Hansen said. “We hope that by showcasing the success of this and other initiatives, other cities around the globe will be inspired to find their way to incentivize more sustainable tourism behavior, ultimately leading to a more sustainable future for everyone.”

  • Big picture:  What you need to know this week
  • Your questions answered: Could internal dissent lead to Putin's removal from power? | Has the West been honest about Ukraine's failures?
  • Live reporting by Ollie Cooper

Thanks for tuning in to our live coverage, that's all for today.

Here are the key events from the day:

  • President Zelenskyy said Ukraine had halted Moscow's forces completely in the Kharkiv region;
  • Germany looks set to halve its military funding for Ukraine next year;
  • Crimea and Russian Black Sea ports were targeted by Ukraine overnight;
  • The EU's president dubbed Viktor Orban's visit to Moscow an "appeasement tour";
  • Mr Zelenskyy appealed for European unity, defence systems and diplomacy during a visit to Blenheim Palace in the UK.

Five people have been killed and three injured in Russian attacks on the Donetsk region, prosecutors have said.

A woman and her husband were killed in artillery shelling in the village of Pleshchiivka, the general prosecutor's office said.

Another three women were killed in a strike on private buildings in the village of Hrodivka, it added.

Separately, the Russian military dropped two guided bombs on the village of Velyka Novosilka, injuring a man and his wife inside their house, while another man was wounded in an artillery strike in the town of Zalizne.

In April this year, the US finally approved a long-awaited aid package worth some $60.8bn (£49bn) in aid to Ukraine.

Included were vast quantities of much-needed weapons and ammunition meant for the frontlines - which Kyiv had been desperately calling for for months.

So how have they impacted the war?

Nichita Gurcov, Eurasia analyst for Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project  (ACLED) told Sky News it may actually have pushed Moscow to act quickly and launch fresh attacks.

"It may have prodded Russia to step up its offensive to claim as much ground as possible, before the arriving weapons make it harder," he says.

Russia resumed its offensive in October last year after fending off the latest Ukrainian attempt to cut the land corridor to Crimea, Gurcov explains.

"By mid-February [this year] Russia secured the Avdiivka stronghold and has been since pressing toward Ukrainian logistical hub in Pokrovsk," he said.

ACLED has counted the number of settlements gained by Russia in each month of the conflict.

Five were taken in February, but just two in March.

In April (the month the US aid package was announced), seven settlements were captured, followed by nine in May and 11 in June - highlighting a clear increase in Russian offensive action.

"The sharp increase in the number of claimed settlements in May is due to the Russian re-invasion of the northern Kharkiv region," Gurcov explains.

"It could have pursued - diverting Ukrainian forces from elsewhere - but so far has been contained," he adds (see 11.40am post).

Another indicator of increased fighting is the number of reported battles, according to ACLED:

"The sharp increase in fighting in April and the subsequent near-50% increase in May is an all-time high since the invasion," Gurcov notes.

"The spike is only partially due to the re-invasion of the Kharkiv region as we are recording steadily intensifying offensive in the Donetsk region," he adds.

Closing arguments in the trial of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich will be heard in a Russian court tomorrow.

Mr Gershkovich attended a trial session for a second day behind closed doors today - more in our 8.10am post on that.

The 32-year-old was arrested in March last year while on a reporting trip. Authorities claimed, without offering any evidence, that he was gathering secret information for the US - which he, his employer and his government all vehemently deny.

Russia will not rule out new deployments of nuclear missiles in response to the planned US stationing of long-range conventional weapons in Germany, Moscow's deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov has said.

Russia regularly threatens Europe and the US with the nuclear option in public.

"I am not ruling out any options," the Interfax news agency said he told reporters in the Russian capital when asked to comment on the US deployment plans.

Washington said last week it would start deployment in Germany from 2026 of weapons that will include SM-6, Tomahawk and new hypersonic missiles in order to demonstrate its commitment to NATO and European defence.

Interfax cited Mr Ryabkov as saying that the defence of Russia's Kaliningrad region, which is wedged between NATO members Poland and Lithuania, was a particular focus.

"Kaliningrad is no exception in terms of our 100% determination to do everything necessary to push back those who may harbour aggressive plans and who try to provoke us to take certain steps that are undesirable for anyone and are fraught with further complications," Mr Ryabkov said.

Readers have been sending in their questions to our senior correspondents and military experts for their take on the changing battlefield environment in Ukraine.

Today, Ross Tregembo asks:

Is there a possibility of internal dissent within Putin's inner circle leading to his removal from power?

Moscow correspondent Ivor Bennett   replies:

"Not right now, no. This seems extremely unlikely for a number of reasons.

"Firstly, Vladimir Putin has just started a new presidential term, keeping him in the Kremlin for another six years.

"The potential political jeopardy of an election has evaporated and his approval ratings are near record highs (85% according to the independent Levada Center), helped by Russia gaining the upper hand on the battlefield in Ukraine.

"So there's no overt public support for a change at the top.

"Secondly, who would succeed him? His refusal to pick a successor all these years has been deliberate, and a key factor in preserving his power.

"Thirdly, his potential rivals are focused elsewhere.

"Look at what’s happening at the ministry of defence and the series of corruption scandals. By replacing his long-time ally Sergei Shoigu as minister of defence, Putin seemed to open the doors to a full-on purge of the military’s top brass.

"Analysts say this was a deliberate ploy to play his rivals off against each other - security services vs the military. By doing that, they're less likely to take a shot at him.

"Yes, it's only been a year since his authority was challenged like never before, with the Prigozhin-led uprising. But fast-forward 12 months and his grip on power appears stronger than ever."

A Russian court has sentenced US citizen Michael Travis Leake to 13 years in prison on drug smuggling charges, the court service has said in a statement.

Mr Leake, a musician and former US paratrooper - who was arrested in June 2023 - was found guilty of selling drugs on a large scale, the court service said.

It was not clear how he pleaded.

He is one of about a dozen Americans currently held in Russian detention - alongside Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, whose trial continued today (see 8.10am post).

Another American, Robert Romanov Woodland, was sentenced by a Russian court to 12-1/2 years for drug smuggling earlier this month.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's desire to create "a true European Defence Union" if she is re-elected shows the mood in Europe is one of militarisation and confrontation, the Kremlin has said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the plans reflected Ms von der Leyen's "changing priorities" and said her proposals gave a "military colouring" to the EU.

Mr Peskov told reporters that her proposal "confirms the general attitude of European states to militarisation, escalation of tension, confrontation and reliance on confrontational methods in their foreign policy".

"Everything is quite obvious here," he added.

One more line to bring you from Volodymyr Zelenskyy's address at Blenheim Palace - concerning Russia's progress in northern Kharkiv.

When trying to convince leaders to help with Kyiv's air defence capability, the president said Ukraine had halted Moscow's forces completely.

"We have stopped the Russian advance on Kharkiv - period," he said.

"Putin has sacrificed tens of thousands of his citizens but has achieved nothing significant," he added.

"This was made possible by the bravery of our warriors and the bravery of our partners, who have lifted limitations on the use of Western weapons along our border," he added.

Russia launched a surprise attack on Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region in May, opening up another front for Ukraine to defend.

Moscow's troops made rapid progress in the days immediately after the incursion, before being slowed by a stubborn Ukrainian resistance.

Reports earlier in the week that Russian operations were winding down in the area resulted in Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denying the claims yesterday.

"This operation is ongoing, it will continue until it has been successfully completed," he told reporters.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. Meet with me or one of my agents in our spacious office.  If you have an idea where you would like to go, great!  If not, that’s great too.  We have literally thousands of travel ideas for you to think about, and will make sure every detail of your trip is taken care of.

All without a fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, we work within any and all realistic budgets, and an honest sharing of ideas and goals helps us immensely when making recommendations and suggested edits to travel plans.

No, there is no fee for our vacation planning services as the travel vendors involved recognize our value and compensate us from the gross amount paid (what you would have paid even without our assistance). For those complicated international itineraries that require custom crafting and significant involvement of our international on-location partners, we do request an intent-to-travel deposit to begin the process. This deposit is applied to the  reservations  that are made on your behalf.

No. We have access to all the same pricing for resorts as the online booking sites do and we can price-match online booking engine pricing when comparing apples to apples.

In many cases, we can find discounts and other promotional offerings that are not offered to the general public.

Travel insurance is available and recommended to protect your travel investment. Many trips, such as tours and cruises, involve non-refundable funds paid months in advance. Travel insurance protects you from losing this investment. Perhaps even more important is the ‘during travel’ coverage and assistance that comes with the top-flight insurance company we utilize.

You can find them here:

Trip interruption due to illness or unforeseen circumstances can be very expensive, and medical care abroad is often not covered by domestic insurance plans.

Call us right away. If it’s after normal business hours, please contact the next involved travel supplier (airline, hotel, tour operator, cruise line) to cancel any reservations you will not be able to use. If you purchased travel insurance, please contact the insurance company’s 24-hour line to start the cancellation process and ensure your maximum refund.

M & M Travel and Tours will do everything possible to accommodate your requests and needs. Please indicate on you reservation form your specific requests. The sooner that we know that you have a special request, the better we can prepare and accommodate. If you have any mobility challenges, we suggest you bring a travel-mate that can best assist you in the way that you need.

Government-issued identification is required for all air travel. A valid passport is required for all trips outside the USA. All passengers should check with the appropriate foreign consulate for entry and validity requirements. We recommend that your passport has six months validity, and at least 3 blank pages. Passports and visas are the responsibility of each client. International Borders. Any child under age 16 (traveling without a parent or legal guardian to Canada) must have written permission from a parent or legal guardian. Please be advised that if you have been convicted of an offense, or have committed a criminal act that is an offense under the laws where it occurred and would be an offense in Canada, you may be inadmissible into Canada. You will need to apply for a Minister’s Permit of Approval of Rehabilitation at a Canadian Consulate. All other travelers should contact the appropriate consulate for entry requirements in other international destinations. In South Africa, children are required to have a passport as well as additional documentation to travel with you into and out of the country. Please consult the South African Embassy for the current specific requirements related to your travel dates.

If traveling internationally with a child under the age of 18, please check directly with the airline for the legal documentation that is required. It is the sole responsibility of the guest to procure the proper documentation to travel and many requirements vary by airline and destination.

M & M Travel and Tours will not be responsible for costs incurred for missed flights or canceled tours where a guest fails to secure proper documentation.

Please indicate on your reservation from whom you are traveling with and we will request that the hotel assigns your rooms next to each other. Although adjacent rooms will be requested, the hotels are not always able to accommodate. We will ensure your rooms are near each other if not connected.
