Is Travelgo.com Legit or a Scam? An In-Depth TravelGo Review
In recent times, online travel booking platforms have become increasingly popular, offering travelers convenience and competitive prices for flight reservations.
One such platform is TravelGo.com , which claims to provide affordable flight bookings for both domestic and international travel.
However, its legitimacy has been a subject of debate among travelers due to mixed user experiences and varying reviews.
In this in-depth review, we’ll explore the features, pros and cons, user reviews, and overall verdict to help you decide whether Travel Go is a trustworthy platform for your travel bookings.
What is TravelGo (Ly.Com)?
TravelGo ( https://www.travelgo.com/ ), also known as Ly.com , is an online travel agency that allows users to search for and book flights from various airlines. The platform claims to offer competitive prices on airfares, enabling travelers to find budget-friendly options for their journeys.
While the website functions as a flight aggregator, it does not operate airlines or provide its own travel services. Instead, TravelGo partners with established airlines to offer flight options to its users.
Pros of TravelGo
TravelGo offers competitive prices, a variety of payment options, easy search and comparison features, partnerships with established airlines, and a user-friendly website.
- Competitive Prices – Some users have reported finding cheaper flight options through TravelGo compared to booking directly through airlines or other travel agencies. The platform’s ability to aggregate flight data from multiple sources can lead to cost savings for certain routes.
- Variety of Payment Options – TravelGo accepts payments through credit cards, PayPal, WeChat, and AliPay, providing users with convenient payment choices. This flexibility makes it easier for travelers from different regions to complete their bookings.
- Search and Compare – The platform allows users to search and compare flights from different airlines, making it easier to find the most suitable option based on their preferences and budgets. This feature streamlines the booking process for users looking for specific flight details.
- Partnered with Established Airlines – TravelGo collaborates with well-known airlines like Virgin Australia, offering flights from reputable carriers. This partnership lends credibility to the platform’s flight options and can give users peace of mind when booking through TravelGo.
- User-Friendly Website – The website design is relatively straightforward, enabling users to navigate and find flight options without much hassle. The booking process is intuitive, and users can complete their reservations with relative ease.
Cons of TravelGo
Below are some cons to consider before using TravelGo for your flight bookings.
- Negative User Reviews – TravelGo has received a significant number of negative reviews, with complaints about poor customer service, difficulty reaching support, and unresolved issues. Many users have expressed frustration with the platform’s lack of responsiveness and lackluster assistance.
- Lack of Information – Some users have raised concerns about the limited information available about the company, including its physical location and registration details. The absence of comprehensive company details can make it challenging for users to assess the platform’s credibility.
- Passport Details Requirement – TravelGo asks for passengers’ passport details even for domestic flights, which may raise privacy and security concerns for some users. Requiring passport information for domestic travel can seem unnecessary and deter potential customers.
- Uncertain Legitimacy – The abundance of negative reviews and the platform’s limited transparency raise questions about TravelGo’s legitimacy and reliability as a travel booking service. Users may hesitate to entrust their travel plans and personal information to a platform with uncertain credentials.
Why TravelGo Appears to be Legitimate?
TravelGo does appear to have some characteristics that may suggest legitimacy:
A. Website and Booking Platform
TravelGo has a functioning website where users can search for and book flights. The platform appears to offer flight options from various airlines, and users can enter their travel details to find available flights.
B. Accepted Payment Methods
According to user reviews, TravelGo accepts payments through various methods, including credit cards, PayPal, WeChat, and AliPay. Accepting multiple payment options can be a sign of a legitimate business.
C. User Reviews
While TravelGo has some negative reviews, it also has a few positive reviews where users have reported successful bookings and satisfactory experiences. User reviews can offer insights into a company’s services and credibility.
D. Contact Information
The platform provides contact details, including an email address and a phone number. Having accessible contact information is a positive sign as it allows users to reach out for assistance or inquiries.
E. Website Design
From the information provided, the website appears to be functional and reasonably well-designed, although it may lack some detailed information about the company itself.
F. Booking with Established Airlines
Users have mentioned booking flights with well-known airlines like Virgin Australia through TravelGo. Collaborating with reputable airlines can indicate that the platform is working with legitimate partners.
TravelGo Review Verdict
While I cannot definitively label TravelGo as a scam, there are numerous red flags and reasons to be cautious about using their services. It’s essential to be aware of these potential issues to protect yourself and make informed decisions when booking through any online platform.
Here are some reasons that might make you skeptical about TravelGo’s legitimacy:
A. Lack of Official Affiliations
TravelGo is not registered with reputable industry bodies such as AFTA (Australian Federation of Travel Agents) ‘s through ATAS (Australian Travel Accreditation Scheme) or other recognized travel associations. Established travel agencies usually have affiliations that provide consumer protection and reassurance.
B. Mandatory Passport Details for Domestic Flights
Requiring passengers to provide passport details for domestic flights is highly unusual and raises concerns about the platform’s intentions and potential misuse of sensitive information.
C. Inconsistent Customer Service
Numerous negative reviews highlight poor customer service from Travel Go. Delayed responses, unhelpful assistance, and difficulty in resolving issues have left customers frustrated and dissatisfied.
D. Obscure Background and Location
The platform’s Chinese origins and the lack of detailed information about the company’s background can make users skeptical about its legitimacy and trustworthiness.
E. Mixed User Reviews
While some users report successful bookings and competitive prices, there are also numerous negative reviews detailing problems with bookings, cancellations, and refunds, raising doubts about the platform’s reliability.
F. Lack of Trustworthy Testimonials
The absence of well-documented and verifiable testimonials from reputable sources may lead users to question the credibility of Travel Go’s claims.
G. Potential Scam Reports
There have been instances where users reported being scammed by travel agencies with similar names, leading to confusion and mistrust in the market.
User Reviews
User reviews of TravelGo are mixed, with some travelers expressing satisfaction with their bookings, citing competitive prices and smooth transactions.
Positive reviews often highlight successful experiences where users secured affordable flights with TravelGo.
However, the platform has also received a substantial number of negative reviews like below. Many users have reported issues with customer service, refund processes, and communication, indicating potential risks when booking through this platform.
Note: Remember, it’s best practice to review recent feedback from various customers across different review sites for a safer experience .
As with any online travel booking platform, caution is advised when using TravelGo . While some users have reported successful bookings and satisfactory experiences, others have faced significant challenges and frustrations.
Before making a decision, it’s essential to conduct thorough research, read reviews from multiple sources ( Not just this one ), and consider using well-established and reputable travel booking sites to ensure a safe and reliable booking experience.
Remember to prioritize your privacy and security when providing personal information and making payments online. Ultimately, the decision to use TravelGo should be made after careful consideration of all available information and potential risks.

The travel channel
We simply love this channel. Never boring. Always something coming up that we look forward to. Hope this channel never goes away. Should our cable provider discontinue this feed, we shall discontinue them. We stay on this channel all the time. Why would anybody not?? We love traveling, and our national parks. This new virus, however is a bummer, and may not go away for quiet some time. This may greatly curb our travel planes for this year. Stay safe everybody, we certainly do not want to loose anyone to this terrible new disease. We stay to ourselves, best we can do as not to be able to spread this to our fellow Americans. Any of you who should read my post, we hope to see you at our national parks. Our government has obtained so many wonderful places to visit. This simply grows on you for wanting more of this. For now we understand that they are closed to protect us from this deadly virus. Our rv is ready for the road whenever they open again. Jim chapman here, the loving camper.
Abusive To Viewers
Great shows but don’t count on seeing the end of some of the shows. The Dead Files gets cut off before the reveal on most episodes and then I switch over to my phone app to see the end of the show. But the app has TONS OF ADS! I literally counted the ads I had to go through…….38! 38 ads for a 43 minute show! Really? No way I will ever subscribe to this channel. I already have it in my cable package, but I want to see all the previous episodes of this show. But I think I am over it. So over it!!!!! Adding to my previous review!!! AKA “Abuse To Viewers” Well you responded with a link for help with the problem. I don’t know what the deal is there. I feel like it was just lip service! When I attempted to click on the link to submit a request, it DIDN’T DO A THING! So I couldn’t “submit a request” what a joke. Why even bother to respond to reviews if you don’t even have the correct information! Usually when there’s a genuine email address or website link, there’s a line under it or it’s blue. Not this time. But I still tried to click on it. With my finger and with a mouse. Perhaps you could be so kind as to recheck your information and try again? Maybe you should click on the link first, just to be sure. Thank You!
Developer Response ,
Hi there, the link in our original response is the correct link. Here it is again: https://gohelp.discovery.com/hc/en-us. If the link isn't working for you, try opening it on a different device and/or browser. Once you are on the site, click "Submit a Request" in the top, right-hand side of the page and submit your information and we will get back to you.
Re-authenticate Expired
I’m currently subscribed to watch Travel Channel & today as I was trying to get on the app.. it said, “The current authentication session has expired. The user must re-authenticate with a supported MVPD in order to continue.” For anyone who comes across this, just go into the 3 stacks on the left top side of the app, go to settings, where it says TV Provider sign out and sign back again. And it should let you watch whatever you were previously trying to see. I give it 5 stars since it was an easy fix and I also wanted to let others know if something like this happens.. just to follow the directions above. Closing the app won’t do anything and you’ll keep seeing the pop up message as I mentioned before. Hope that helps :)
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! A normal experience includes signing in (re-authenticating) to the app at a minimum every 14 days, though this could be longer. If you ever have any questions or need assistance please feel free to reach out to us at the link below and select 'Submit a Request' https://gohelp.discovery.com/hc/en-us

Travel | travel: how to go on a high-class golf vacation without landing in the financial rough.
One of the beauties about golf, besides the azalea-flanked 13th hole at Augusta National Golf Club, home of this week’s Masters, is that unlike most professional sports, you and I can actually play where the pros play.
Is surf-hugging Pebble Beach Golf Links too beautiful to only watch on TV every February? Then go online and get a tee time for a gorgeous California course that has made U.S. Open champions of such greats as Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson and Tiger Woods, and has hosted an iconic pro-am annually since 1947. Feel like playing 18 in the Hill Country home of the Texas State Open? The Ram Rock course, considered the most difficult among the four at renowned Horseshoe Bay Golf Resort outside of Austin, welcomes all from hacker to scratcher. Same with Hawaii’s paradisal Plantation Course at Kapalua, which hosts the wintertime Sentry Tournament of Champions, and The Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Florida, home of one of the most esteemed stops on the PGA tour.
Unfortunately, for us golf lovers not among the top 1%, water hazards and sand traps aren’t our only obstacles. It takes a lot of green to play the greens. A round at Sawgrass, for example, can set one back a grand at peak tee times, making Pebble Beach sound like a bargain at $675. Another reality is not every prestigious or pro-played golf course puts out the welcome mat for us commoners. Teeing off at Augusta National, for one, pretty much requires being besties with a club member or past Masters champion.
The good news is we club-swinging stalwarts have alternatives when hankering to play legendary links. The U.S. is dotted with them, but if we take our virtual golf cart to the warm-weather golfing meccas of California, Hawaii, Texas and Florida, our GPS system can locate less forbidding championship courses that are also vacation-worthy because they’re linked to topnotch resorts with accommodations, dining and activities to match.
Where are these swinging Shangri-las? This question is well-timed. Aware that golf fever is peaking with this week’s Masters and next month’s U.S. Women’s Open — we’re in the heart of the PGA, LPGA, PGA Champions and LIV tours, as if you didn’t know — we’ve scouted the four aforementioned states for resorts that are well above par even if your score isn’t under par. Quality doesn’t come cheap, but unlike some of the more hoity-toity clubs, this quartet of courses will welcome you with open arms, which, if you listen to Tiger, should be wide on the backswing to allow your muscles to stretch to their full potential.
Traveling west to east ….
Ko Olina Golf Club
Golf in Hawaii is nearly as kingly as Kamehameha, so playing a tropics-kissed course that’s drop-dead gorgeous isn’t hard to do in the Aloha State. What isn’t as easy as Sunday morning is finding a premier property with a cool, unpretentious vibe. That’s Ko Olina Golf Club on Oahu. Perennially ranked among the nation’s top resort courses, Ko Olina ( koolinagolf.com ) is a judgment-free zone with great taste in its partnerships with the Four Seasons Resort at Ko Olina, the choice property within the master-planned oceanfront community, and an on-site Roy’s Hawaiian fusion restaurant that might be the best in the chain.
The Ted Robinson-designed course is decked with stunning water features, multi-tiered greens and generous landing areas. Here is where retired LPGA phenom Michelle Wie developed her game, and there’s a statue of her out front to prove it. The pro shop is consistently ranked among the best in the U.S., and with the rental clubs being TaylorMade graphite, it’s tempting not to schlep your set. Inclusive of cart rental, a logoed tumbler and a basket of range balls, adult fees are no higher than $255, and go down to $190 after 1 p.m.
A short shuttle ride or stroll away is the 371-unit Four Seasons ( fourseasons.com ), which offers digs and dining befitting the five-star brand, and serves as a model for luxury Hawaiian resorts striving to appeal to everyone from young families to honeymooners to seniors. An impressive schedule of daily activities is augmented by R&R offerings that include the five-star Naupaka Spa, inviting lagoons and pools, and first-rate horseback riding in the scenic Waianae Mountains.
The Links at Spanish Bay
Having recently walked the storied course and hallowed halls of the 146-year-old Royal Troon Golf Club, which in July will host its 10th Open Championship, this unworthy duffer can now distinguish between a “Scottish-style links” course and the real deal. While the landscape between Pebble Beach and the south Ayrshire coast has little in common besides a shoreline, getting in a round at The Links at Spanish Bay does hint of playing Royal Troon’s Old Course.
Helping get in the Scottish spirit is a bagpiper who plays for about 45 minutes before sunset from the first tee to the second. Fee-wise, guests staying at The Inn at Spanish Bay pay $350, which includes a cart. It’s a stately and elegant hotel with 269 rooms, and has reciprocity with other Pebble Beach Resorts facilities ( pebblebeach.com ). Overlooking spectacular sand dunes with an endless view of the Pacific costs just north of $1,000 a night, but that’s less than the rates at the sister properties, The Lodge and Casa Palermo.
Snob factor aside, “better” and “best” don’t get much more than “good” — not when Spanish Bay’s lowest-price room still comes with a romantic fireplace, reading nook, choice of nine different types of pillows and other niceties.
Lost Pines Golf Club
The phrase “everything is bigger in Texas” certainly applies to the list of activities at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa ( lostpinesresortandspa.com ), a Hill Country jewel along the banks of the Lower Colorado River. On more than 400 glorious acres just outside Austin, you can fish, ride horses and ponies, pet goats, alpacas, pigs and donkeys, say “howdy” to morbidly named Texas Longhorns (Chuck, Sirloin, Brisket, T-Bone and Ribeye — really?), go on a wagon ride and hay ride, trap shoot, fire off BB guns, slingshots and arrows, throw tomahawks, swim, float on a 1,000-foot, palm tree-lined lazy river, play tennis and pickleball, and, oh yeah, golf.
Deep in the heart of Texas is a 7,200-yard course well-described by the club’s lead golf instructor as “undulating and isolated.” Green fees top at around $200. A recent multimillion-dollar makeover included a redesign of holes 10 through 13, rebuilt bunkers and a name change from Wolfdancer. Designed by golf architect Arthur Hills, Lost Pines is a par-72 beauty graced by rolling prairies, wooded ridgelines and groves of native pecan trees.
Apparently, those homegrown pecans aren’t good enough for the nuttiest dessert served at Maude’s, a bastion of Southern hospitality ironically named for the Texas-sized pecan tree that towers over the outside tables. But like nearly everything guests taste, touch and see at the 490-unit resort, the headline ingredient of the yummy bourbon pecan pie is still locally sourced. Deliciousness continues with the lamb sliders, artisanal charcuterie and flawless libations that include a killer carajillo. Take one sip of their version of this classic Spanish coffee-based cocktail and you may never order an espresso martini again.
Before we leave Lost Pines, hoping to return again, a shout-out to Sushi By Scratch for a new-wave spin on the Japanese dining experience of omakase, where it’s basically chef’s choice through 17 individually paced pieces of nigiri, A5 wagyu beef and other delicacies. Seatings are limited to 10 patrons, each paying a minimum of $165 for this event meal. Sushi By Scratch’s Lost Pines location is one of 10 in the U.S., four of which are in California.
The Boca Raton
It’s hard to imagine a classier, cleaner and more comfortable resort than The Boca Raton ( thebocaraton.com ) in South Florida. This place is so exquisite after a history-respecting, $200-million reimagination, if it weren’t for the bill at the end it could qualify as heaven on Earth.
Dating back to 1926, The Boca Raton’s rich golf heritage includes Tommy Armour and Sam Sneed serving as its first two golf directors — 10 majors won between them. The resort’s Harborside Golf Course, exclusive to members and guests, is dedicated to these two legends. The par-71, 18-hole championship-level course features 12 acres of water, some put to use for a signature island-green finishing hole. From June to October, green fees are $210. That includes a golf cart and — get this — the food and beverage cart. We’re talking Asian shrimp salad, roasted turkey shawarma, rotisserie chicken salad and more delivered on the course by a pleasant attendant, and just for the asking. As we said, classy.
So is the adjacent high-tech driving range. Included in the resort fee are hitting stations powered by state-of-the-art Toptracer technology designed to perfect your swing. A monitor displays helpful data related to your golf ball’s speed, distance and spin rate. The digital gaming options are a blast.
Taking off the cleats, also on the resort’s 365 acres are five hotels within a hotel that make up 835 total rooms. The adults-only Yacht Club claims 112 of those units, all chic suites with private balconies and views of Lake Boca Raton, the Atlantic and a yacht-lined marina. Amenities include a butler, exclusive dining and an invitation to explore the South Florida coast while behind the wheel of a $200,000 Aston Martin DBX. Which begs the question: Do we dream about buying that or membership into the Augusta National Golf Club?

You can still find affordable flights to Europe this summer
Airfare prices to amsterdam, brussels, prague and reykjavik are way down from last year.
Christina Saull and her husband have waited five years to take a 10-day cruise through the Norwegian fjords. The first time they planned the trip, it was postponed for a medical emergency. The second time, there was a family wedding. Now, finally, they were getting ready to go in July.
Only they needed plane tickets.
“It’s interesting to see how expensive fares have been and how they’ve fluctuated,” said Saull, a public relations executive who lives in Alexandria, Va.
The couple watched prices go from as little as $900 round trip to as much as $2,500 for flights from Washington to Edinburgh, Scotland, and back from Copenhagen. They finally settled on premium economy seats for $2,000 each on Delta Air Lines and its partner Air France.
“I don’t think it’s unreasonable for summer Europe travel,” Saull said of what they paid.
Not unreasonable is a good way to describe transatlantic air travel this summer. Even with strong travel demand, tickets are cheaper on average than they were last year.
“Airfare to Europe is less expensive than last year by 10 percent,” said Hayley Berg, the lead economist at flight-booking app Hopper . The average round trip ticket before any extra fees costs $882, according to the data.
The highest fares are in June, July and August, Berg added. Traveling in shoulder months — for example, September and October — could save travelers as much as 30 percent.
Schedule data from aviation analytics firm Cirium Diio shows airlines will offer 8 percent more seats on U.S.-Europe routes from May through September than last year.
Philadelphia is gaining new nonstops to Copenhagen, Naples , and Nice, France, on American Airlines. Phoenix gets its first nonstop to Paris on Air France. Washington, a new flight to Zurich on Swiss International Air Lines. And many other routes additional flights or options on larger planes.
“In the transatlantic, we are looking forward to another strong summer,” said Glen Hauenstein, president of Delta Air Lines, referring to bookings earlier in April. He added the airline sees “healthy demand” for seats to Europe.
Paris has flight deals, but hotels are pricey
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics are a bump in the finely tuned machine that is summer air travel to Europe. The Games run from July 26 through Aug. 11, and the French capital is expected to host some 15 million visitors during the event and the following Paralympic Games. Last summer, the city saw more than 6.2 million visitors in July and August.
“Paris will be like an Olympic village in July and August,” said Christine Ourmières-Widener, CEO of the French airline French Bee . All those visitors still need a way to get to the city. French Bee , which caters to leisure travelers like those going to the Games, has added flights from Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco to meet the demand.
Flight deals to Paris can still be found. Booking website Expedia recommends travelers buy tickets at least 21 days before their trip and, for international travel, look at departing on a Monday to find the best airfares.
Finding an affordable hotel in Paris during the Games is another matter. Expedia said it has seen a “massive surge” in searches for accommodations there this summer and recommends travelers look at nearby cities for more reasonably priced options.
Consider Nice, Prague and Reykjavik
Finn Vigeland, a transit planner who lives in Washington, was “quite surprised” last month when he found a good deal on flights to Nice, France, in July.
Prices on American Airlines’ new nonstop to Nice from Philadelphia were only $700 to $800 round trip, he said. That was affordable enough to make a trip to France with friends possible, and he booked the flight (with points, not cash).
Average fares to Nice from the United States are down a quarter to $907 compared to last summer, Hopper’s data shows. The city also has the distinction of being one of the few European destinations with lower airfares this summer than in 2019, 11 percent lower to be exact. That drop is, in part, thanks to a plethora of new flights on American, Delta, and United.
Amsterdam, Brussels, Prague, and Reykjavik, Iceland, are other European cities where ticket prices from the United States are down more than 20 percent from last year, according to Hopper.
Airfares are not down double-digits in all markets though. Fares to cities like Berlin and Glasgow, Scotland, are on par with last year.
Traveler after traveler said they felt like they could find reasonably priced plane tickets for trips between the United States and Europe this summer. Those who said they could not often lacked flexibility to adjust their trips to when and where fares are the cheapest.
“I felt like this was doable. It made sense,” Alexander Giess said of his plan to take his 10-year-old daughter on a three-week trip to France this summer.
After a lengthy search, in March the marketing executive paid about $1,000 each for two round-trip tickets to Nice from San Francisco on his preferred airline, Delta.

‘Conan O’Brien Must Go’ Is a Keeper: TV Review
Legendary talk show host and hot wing evangelist returns to television with hilarious new Max travel show

The key to understanding Conan O’Brien’s comedy is knowing that it comes from a point of kindness. Yes, I know in this age of comics punching down , this kind of compliment may leave you with a neon “Must Avoid!” sign flashing in your bleary eyes — but stay with me.
Popular on Variety
Conan’s three-decade run as a talk show host ended in 2021 under less-than-optimal circumstances , as he wound down his TBS show during the pandemic year. He talked to longtime sidekick Andy Richter , who sat among dozens of cardboard cutout fans. O’Brien quipped that they were last in line for the vaccine because the CDC had looked at the shows and “they said ours is the least essential of pretty much all the non-essential shows.”
There was some truth in that, but Conan had already started his move to other outlets , starting with his “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast in 2018.
The podcast is funny and sweet, especially the pre-interview segments with longtime associate Sona Movsesian and producer Mark Gourley. Conan mocks Sona’s legendarily bad work habits. and Gourley’s flea market predilections, but any kind of comedic acid is reserved for the self-lacerating O’Brien. (On a recent episode, Conan runs down his own looks, and it is cruel and hilarious, but part of me is thinking, “Dude, cut yourself a break.”). The only time things get contentious is when Conan visited by longtime friend Kevin Nealon — perhaps the podcast’s best episodes.
The podcast had an offshoot called “Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan,” on which O’Brien would talk to a fan, often in a faraway land. That led to O’Brien traveling to Norway, Thailand, Ireland and Argentina to meet them. Why? Well, a dour and ominous narrator, aka Werner Herzog, offered this rationale at the beginning of each episode: “Once a proud talk show host, he’s been driven by a changing ecosystem to a drier and harsher climate: the weekly podcast. Here , without the nourishment of his studio audience, this clown with dull , tiny eyes, the eye of a crudely painted doll , is forced to feed on that meagerest of morsels: the random call-in fan. Unhinged by the feral scent of their mild enthusiasm. He scavenges in distant lands uninvited, fueled by a bottomless hunger for recognition , and the occasional selfie.”
It’s a self-deprecating bit, but it’s also the truth. Conan has been doing travel shows for years, most notably one to Movsesian’s native Armenia , as well as a chaotic trip to Finland where O’Brien is treated as a god because of his physical resemblance to the Finnish president who happens to be a woman. He clearly loves the journey. And he loves the comedy set piece–see his classic “Old Timey Baseball” opus — which has always been an essential part of his appeal.
The encounters work because O’Brien doesn’t treat his new friends as fools — rather , he revels in the fact that he is the fool. (See his instant-classic appearance on “Hot Ones,” the show where interviews are conducted while the celebrity consumes increasingly acidic chicken wings. Conan rhapsodizes on comedy being all around us as green-yellow mucus drips down his nose.) Of course, there are exceptions made for old friends. Conan goes out for asada in Buenos Aires with the effete and erudite Jordan Schlansky, a longtime producer and frenemy. Schlansky and Conan are the Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon of American cable , and on his TBS show and podcast the two have tangled over Japanese customs, Conan hosting Schlansky’s bachelor party in his own office, and Schlansky hiding an expensive Espresso machine in an inaccessible part of their offices. (As with the Courtney Thorne-Smith segment, Conan’s visceral malice toward Schlansky works because it is so out-of-character).
During the Argentina episode, they get into a fierce argument about the proper pronunciation of the word “tango,” Conan then licks Schlansky’s favorite cut of meat — wait, that came out wrong. After, they go on an ill-fated trip to the Pampas, where both fail spectacularly at gaucho life.
Not everything works. O’Brien does a self-referential bit about the expensive drone he is using on the first show , and for the next four episodes I am distracted every time I see a beautiful shot thinking about the drone’s specifications and capabilities. Some of the stuff goes on a bit long, but so does my writing.
These are minor quibbles. If you’re a Conan fan, you’ll treasure the trips, just like his completists treasure encounters with a masturbating bear. The series ends with Conan tracing his family’s roots in Ireland. He comes across his ancestor’s land, makes a few jokes, but then looks at the land, clearly moved. Conan O’Brien has played the fool long enough; we grant him this moment of humanity with all our hearts.
All four episodes of “Conan O’Brien Must Go” are now available on Max.

'Conan O'Brien Must Go' is side-splitting evidence of life beyond late night TV
Eric Deggans
Conan O'Brien dresses as a Viking in Norway. Conaco/Max hide caption
Conan O'Brien dresses as a Viking in Norway.
To be honest, when I first heard Conan O'Brien was ending his TV talk show in 2021, I assumed news that he might turn to variety shows and online programs to continue his career was some combination of face-saving and wishful thinking.
But after watching the four episodes of his new Max series Conan O'Brien Must Go , it's now obvious — even to a thickheaded critic like me — that leaving late night TV really was liberating for O'Brien. He's leveraged his unique sensibility into several different podcasts, a deal with Sirius XM , specials featuring other stand-up comics and now this travel series for Max — which resembles jokey specials he did for cable channel TBS back in the day.
And as the late night TV genre crumbles under sagging viewership and the decline of traditional media, O'Brien's renaissance also provides an example for the future — where fertile comedy minds and talented performers can spread their work over a much larger canvas.
Pop Culture Happy Hour
Is conan o'brien the best 'hot ones' guest ever discuss., learning a lesson from 'hot ones'.
O'Brien already made a splash recently with his brilliantly maniacal appearance on the interview-while-eating-hot-wings show Hot Ones , slobbering over hot sauces while claiming, as he was checked over by a fake doctor, that "I'm fine! I'm perfectly f*****g fine!"
This is the place where O'Brien shines — he's called it "this strange phantom intersection between smart and stupid" — and it's on full, freakish, super silly display in every episode of Conan O'Brien Must Go .
The conceit of the show is pretty simple. O'Brien heads overseas to visit average folks in Norway, Argentina, Thailand and Ireland who had once Zoomed in to speak with him on the podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Fan . Sometimes the visits seem like a surprise — he catches one aspiring Norwegian rapper in shorts and Crocs after popping up on his doorstep — and others seem a bit more planned, including his visit to a radio show with about four listeners in Buenos Aires.
Each episode begins with a solemn monologue which sounds like it is delivered by the film world's most eccentric voice, German filmmaker and actor Werner Herzog (he's not credited in the show and when asked, a publicist at Max shared a quote from O'Brien: "I can neither confirm nor deny the voice in question.")
The torturous accent by "Herzog" makes every line sound absurdly hilarious, describing O'Brien as "the defiler ... with dull, tiny eyes ... the eyes of a crudely painted doll ... he scavenges in distant lands, uninvited, fueled by a bottomless hunger for recognition and the occasional selfie."
Now that's smart. And oh so stupid.
A funhouse mirror version of a travel show
O'Brien performs onstage with a fan in Norway Conaco/Max hide caption
O'Brien performs onstage with a fan in Norway
Fans of O'Brien's Conan Without Borders specials on TBS already know what his style is when he tackles a travel show — throwing himself into outrageous reactions and situations while working his quirky brand of improvised conversations with hapless bystanders.
In the Max series Conan O'Brien Must Go , that includes O'Brien offering screechy vocals onstage during a performance of a Norwegian emo/rap band. Or asking provocative questions of a couple therapist/sex expert. Or getting beat up in a "fight" with a 10-year-old boy in a bar.
It's all an excuse for O'Brien to unleash his energetic wit, taste for silly absurdity and skill at drawing laughs from sympathetic — if often befuddled — strangers. Whether you enjoy this special will depend on how you feel about O'Brien's style, which can feel a bit like the world's best class clown doing everything possible to make you crack a smile.
(Rent a family in Norway so they can say goodbye when he gets on a SeaCraft? Check. Get local artists to paint a mural of O'Brien, a soccer star and The Pope on the side of a building in Argentina? Double check.)
'Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend' Is A Joke Name For A Podcast — Sort Of
But what amazes in a larger sense is how O'Brien has turned his sensibility into a comedy brand to fuel work on many different platforms. And, at age 60, with more than 30 years as a comedy star, he's been released from the shackles of any genre to shine wherever he chooses — whether it's an episode of Hot Ones or a streaming service which sometimes looks like a collision between True Detective and 90 Day Fiancé .
Leaving late night TV as late night left him
I'm old enough that I started covering TV not long after O'Brien made his first move from the shadows of life as a comedy writer – he worked on Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons — to succeed David Letterman in 1993 as host of NBC's show Late Night (now hosted by Seth Meyers). Back then, NBC gave O'Brien years to figure out the show, honing his smartly serious comedy in a way that would inspire then-teenage fans like Seth Rogen and Bill Hader .
O'Brien left NBC after a disastrous deal where the network tried to make him host of its venerated late night program The Tonight Show and also keep its former host Jay Leno at the network. He moved to a late night show on TBS in 2010, but even then, there was a sense that his creativity was a bit hemmed in by the format.
After 28 Quirky Years, Conan O'Brien Is Leaving Late Night
By the time he left his TBS show Conan for good, it seemed O'Brien was already caught in a trend which would hobble other late night shows — as young viewers consumed his content online and ratings on cable dropped.
Now, with a podcast and digital media company worth many millions and growing status as a TV comedy legend still willing to do almost anything for a laugh, O'Brien is proving there is a successful life beyond late night.
Particularly, if you have the talent to play the fool while leaving little doubt you're also the smartest person in the room.
