Welcome to Cobham Hall

At Cobham Hall, we are dedicated to building opportunities for students so that they can achieve their best academic performances, ensuring that every student is known well as an individual and that their unique personality, talents and interests are nurtured and developed to the full. A Cobham Hall education is about developing the whole child and providing opportunities for students to flourish within and beyond the classroom; to become a successful learner and well-rounded individual who is excited to make the next steps in their learning journey. Staff here work tirelessly to build strong and effective relationships between home and School based on mutual respect and trust. It is my aim to ensure that everyone at Cobham feels part of a successful team, knowing that they are valued and inspired to fulfil their potential and take their place in society as individuals who can make a real difference.

We aspire to offer a caring environment and an inclusive spirit and encourage students to challenge themselves. We believe that by taking part in everything Cobham Hall has to offer, our students discover more about themselves. In turn, they excel academically and leave us fully prepared for the path they have chosen. Education should be about preparing students for life beyond school. At Cobham Hall, students acquire the knowledge they need to pass examinations, but also learn the skills needed to apply, assess, evaluate, use, re-evaluate, and develop that knowledge as they journey through life, enabling them to thrive after school and beyond in a world constantly changing and enveloped in an environment of ‘alternative facts’ and ‘fake news’. We believe that the combination of our core values – Trust, Honesty, Respect, Kindness and Tolerance – and the below elements of Cobham Hall result in each student discovering there is more in her than she thinks.

It is quite often the case that there is more to a school than a website can convey. with cobham hall, that is especially true..

At one of our tours, from the moment you walk in and receive a warm welcome, you and your child will discover there is a reassuring feeling about our old family home. It will help you feel at ease as you ask our staff and students all the questions you need to know the answers to, from the academic to the lunches, from the teaching and pastoral care to the happiness of our students, and from your tour guide’s favourite subject to their opinion on the School. Our community will happily answer any and all of your questions, and our confident and friendly students, from Year 8 to 13, will be on hand to give you a tour.

Testimonials

“The dynamic Boarding environment at Cobham Hall encourages pupils to live their lives to the full. This could be competing in an inter-House sports match, acting in a drama production or singing in Benesonantes." Mr 1

At Cobham Hall our aim is to provide an excellent education which prepares our students for success in life and the world of work. In order for us to do this, we need to ensure our students are engaged in their learning and develop curiosity about their subjects and how they relate to the world around us. It is our belief that in order to successfully prepare students for the world beyond our school gates, we must encourage their personal development beyond academia.

Co-Curricular

We provide our students with the opportunity to develop every aspect of their character and aim to unlock their full potential with the breadth of our co-curricular programme. Cobham Hall students are eager to take part in a wide range of activities. Stop by netball club and the student making the winning shot may very well be the same student making an impassioned speech as a delegate at a Model United Nations General Assembly.

Our lively boarding community lies at the heart of Cobham Hall. British and international students from around the world can live, work and socialise together, sharing all aspects of school and Boarding House life. The rich cultural diversity that our students from over 30 different countries bring to our community is a cause for celebration. Young people leave Cobham Hall confident in their ability to communicate readily and easily with those from different cultures and backgrounds and to take their place in an interconnected, globalised world

Cobham Hall

Cobham Hall is an outstandingly beautiful red brick mansion dating from 1584, which demonstrates an exciting combination of Elizabethan, Jacobean, Carolean and 18th Century styles.

The Elizabethan wings date from 1584 while the central section contains the Gilt Hall, wonderfully decorated by John Webb, Inigo Jones' most celebrated pupil, in 1654. Further rooms were later decorated by James Wyatt in the 18th Century.

Many English monarchs have enjoyed the splendour of Cobham Hall from Elizabeth I to Edward VIII, later the Duke of Windsor. Charles Dickens regularly walked through the grounds from his house in Higham to the Leather Bottle pub in Cobham village. In 1883 the Honourable Ivo Bligh, later the 8th Earl of Darnley, led the victorious English cricket team against Australia and brought home the ""Ashes"" to Cobham Hall. Visitors to the House should not miss the many fine 17th century marble fireplaces and the 18th Century historic Snetzler organ in the Gilt Hall.

The gardens, landscaped for the 4th Earl of Darnley by Humphrey Repton, are being restored by the Cobham Hall Heritage Trust. Extensive tree planting. The Gothic Dairy, The Pump House and some of the classical garden buildings are also being renovated for all our visitors to enjoy.

The grounds yield many delights for the lover of nature, especially in Spring, when the gardens and woods are resplendent with daffodils, narcissi and a myriad of rare bulbs.

Cobham Hall is now an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18 years.

Airframe Tour of Cobham Hall

The Fleet Air Arm Museum’s reserve collection is now larger than many other entire aircraft museums and is housed in a purpose-built and climate-controlled building called Cobham Hall. Cobham Hall is now bulging with a precious assortment of all things “naval aviation heritage”.

The aircraft housed in Cobham Hall are in various stages of preservation, repair or just storage. We have many rare examples that you will not see anywhere else in existence, including the world's oldest surviving aircraft carrier, the Lighter H21 which is on the National Register of Historic Vessels. This sixty feet long streamlined craft was towed behind fast RN destroyers, allowing aircraft to take off at sea during World War 1.

The London Bus Museum is pleased to welcome you on board a bus journey that has taken 150 years

LBM event

Have you ever wondered what happened to all those wonderful old buses that ran in London and which you only now see in old films and books?  Well, the good news is, some of them live on! While thousands went to the scrap yard at the end of their working lives, some have found their way into preservation as living, moving museum pieces at London Bus Museum. Here you will discover the largest collection of working historic London buses in the world, a priceless heritage representing more than 150 years of public transport evolution in the capital.

London Bus Museum is much, much more than simply a display of old buses for enthusiasts; its aim is to present the unique engineering heritage of the collection in its historical, social, technological and educational background.

Here you can re-live the happy times of travelling on these knights of the road, experience the sights, sounds and smells of a past age, evocative of colourful liveries, elegant coachwork, fine leather and moquette upholstery. A wonderful day out with a difference - indefinably nostalgic for those who rode on them, as well as a world of fascination and wonder for the younger generations, many of whom have never even been on a bus!

London Bus Museum displays the culmination of 50 years of preservation work and provides the opportunity to see our vehicles and artefacts in a light, airy and modern environment.

We hope to welcome you for a day out with us at London Bus Museum or at our Heritage Events soon!

Theatres in Moscow

Cultural life of Moscow city is various and rich! Operas, ballets, symphonic concerts... Russian composers have created some of the most beautiful classical music. Russian classical music is very popular in Moscow. It is performed in many beautiful historical venues. Do not forget to include a visit to a concert hall in your itinerary when you are planning your stay in Moscow! And do it in advance.

There are almost no restrictions on dress code in Russian theatres. Visitors may wear jeans and sports shoes, they may have a backpack with them. Only shorts are not allowed.

A typical feature of Russian theatre – visitors are bringing a lot of flowers which they present to their favorite performers after the show.

Here are some practical advices where to go and how to buy tickets.

The Bolshoi Theatre

The Bolshoi Theatre is the oldest, the most famous and popular opera and ballet theatre in Russia. The word “Bolshoi” means “big” in Russian. You can buy a ticket online in advance, 2-3 months before the date of performance on the official website . Prices for famous ballets are high: 6-8 thousand rubles for a seat in stalls. Tickets to operas are cheaper: you can get a good seat for 4-5 thousand rubles. Tickets are cheaper for daytime performances and performances on the New Stage. The New Stage is situated in the light-green building to the left of the Bolshoi's main building. The quality of operas and ballets shown on the New Stage is excellent too. However, you should pay attention that many seats of the Bolshoi’s Old and New Stages have limited visibility . If you want to see the Bolshoi’s Old Stage but all tickets are sold out, you can order a tour of the theatre. You can book such a tour on the official website.

If you want, following Russian tradition, to give flowers to the performers at the end of the show, in the Bolshoi flowers should be presented via special staff who collects these flowers in advance.

In August the Bolshoi is closed.

The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre

This theatre is noteworthy. On one hand, it offers brilliant classical opera and ballet performances. On the other hand, it is an experimental venue for modern artists. You can check the program and buy tickets online here http://stanmus.com/ . If you are opera lover, get a ticket to see superstar Hibla Gerzmava . The theatre has a very beautiful historic building and a stage with a good view from every seat. Tickets are twice cheaper than in the Bolshoi.

The Novaya Opera
