Hop on to the Colombo City tour for an exciting open deck city sightseeing experience
Colombo is the municipal capital of Sri Lanka – a bustling metropolis that has seen continuous growth and development over the years. For someone touring through Sri Lanka, the city has an array of exciting sights and attractions to see and experience. What better way to do all that than from the open deck of a charming double-decker bus!
A Colombo city tour atop an open-deck bus can provide an unmatched experience of the city. You’ll be able to enjoy all of the highlights Colombo has to offer while being serenaded with the lively sounds of the city. Most tours will start by taking you to the Ganagaramaya Temple – one of the most beautiful and architecturally unique Buddhist temples found in the entirety of the island. The complex is also surrounded by many picturesque sights such as the tranquil Beira Lake.
from here, you’ll head to the Colombo National Museum. This establishment is one of the most feature-rich museums in the country. It showcases everything from ancient historical weapons and trinkets to the natural history of Sri Lanka. The museum was recently developed with an ornate library wing – one which houses a huge collection of historical texts and notable photographs.
The sprawling Arcade Independence Square and the iconic Independence Memorial will be your next stop. It’s a great place to get off the bus and stretch your legs for a bit – you’ll find plenty of other doing so. Independence Square is a favourite for joggers and yoga enthusiasts. The calm and peaceful atmosphere lends itself well to an afternoon of relaxation and rejuvenation. If you’re feeling like picking up a souvenir, the shopping complex available here has all manner of shops and vendors for you to peruse through. There’s even a small museum here which pays homage to the many great individuals who fought for the country’s independence from its British overlords.
All in all, an open-deck tour through Colombo can prove to be as fun as it is memorable. In fact, if you’re feeling up for it, you can even book a night tour and get a taste of the city’s nightlife!

India’s first electric double – decker bus to be used for city tours in TVM
KSRTC has launched an electric double-decker bus for city tours in Thiruvananthapuram City. The open deck bus, which resembles the ones that operate in big cities around the world, is India’s first such service. Amazing facilities have been arranged in the bus for tourists to enjoy the scintillating beauty of Thiruvananthapuram City. The trips that begin at 3 pm will be operated every hour until 10 pm. Meanwhile, the bus that starts from East Fort covers Statue, Palayam, Vellayambalam, Kowdiyar, VJT Hall, Petta, Chakha, Shankumugham and Lulu Mall before returning to East Fort. Interestingly, facilities to buy snacks, water and other refreshments inside the bus too have been arranged after the passengers requested the Minister for Transport to make them available. Besides, chartered trips could be booked from 6 am to 2 pm. Special packages for hiring the open electric double-decker bus for wedding shoots, birthday parties, and movie and ad shooting too are available. Phone – 9188619378.
Bus after double-decker train The bus was launched a few days after the trial run of Kerala's maiden double-decker train, which was conducted on the Pollachi-Palakkad route on Wednesday. It was launched before the introduction of the Bengaluru-Coimbatore Uday Double-Decker Superfast Train, intended to address the shortage of trains on the electrified route. AC chair car is part of the inaugural Double-Decker Express series of the Indian Railways. The train timings are yet to be finalised. The trial run was jointly conducted by the Salem and Palakkad divisions.

- DebbJ 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great way to get oriented to Moscow We started our Moscow experience with the hop on hop off. It was a great way to get orientated to the city. The additional optional tours were also good, we did the Metro tour which I highly recommend, we also paid for the Kremlin tour. The hop on hop off has three different lines all included. Only fault was the bus was sometimes full and you had to wait for the next one which was about 15 minutes (in the cold). Read more Written January 6, 2020

- BeverleyT 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Boat trip - TERRIBLE We got on the bus, but couldn’t buy a 1 day ticket. They suggested we do the 1 hour boat trip and said they would drop us to the dock. 1) they dropped us in the wrong place 2) they were lost because of the marathon Then the boat, after we finally found it: 1) stinking fumes, actually gagging 2) no commentary, in fact, no interaction unless you begged 3) offered us 2 for 1 icecreams as they had melted and refrozen as the fridge gets turned off at night Honestly, we enjoyed the afternoon in the boat but spent all of it laughing at just how awful it was!!! The worst thing in Moscow! Read more Written August 18, 2019
- niruDurbs 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Not the best value for the price The ticket is quite expensive and covers three different routes in a 24 hour period. The red route is quite exciting and takes about an hour. The bus comes every 10 to 15 minutes. However the other two routes take about two hours each and buses come every 30 to 40 minute period. If the bus is full then you have to wait at the stop for the next bus. So personally I feel that not much can be seen this way. I definitely was not impressed. However it must be noted that one can learn a lot about the history of Moscow Read more Written July 3, 2019

But to add additional unnecessary delays; the bus stops at each site for 15 minutes at a time or More ! I gave up half way through ( 45 minutes) ; and walked back to the starting point in 10 minutes! - Rebecca J 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Boat element was excellent We purchased a ticket online for the boat and bus for 2 days. The boat element was wonderful, we saw some amazing parts of Moscow along the river side. The bus element was very disappointing as it only started at 10am and was finished by 6:30pm. It was extremely warm when we were there and it would have been great to do the tour in the cool of the day. There was also no air conditioning in the down stairs part of the bus. They also turned away passengers at one of the stops as the bus was full and there was not another bus for 40 minutes. Read more Written September 26, 2018

- Peter F 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Two Routes There is a short red route which depending on the traffic takes about an hour. The route is generally around the Red Square area. The ear phones were small and sometimes the commentary did not link up with the sites you were seeing. The green bus takes you on a longer route and ours took two and a half hours due to the heavy traffic. I would not recommend this trip unless it is raining or you want to fill in time. The sights we saw were nothing outstanding with plenty of time at certain stops for photos. Also the driver stop for a bite to eat at one stop. Read more Written July 30, 2018

The bus didn't stop at many points. Were were unaware a couple of times at what point we were and missed them. Headphones and maps were provided. Would recommend one should check out the route map before going and decide which places to stop in advance, this way one can manage and enjoy the tour more and us it more effectively.! - WilliamDyer 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Poor service on boat and too many waiting times on buses For the price, you should expect at minimum English speaking tour guides with decent experience, but at least in my case that did not happen both in buses and boats. And in the boat even tough we were 90% English speaking tourist at least, the tour guide spoke 95% of the time in Russia, and only 3 sentences in English, I really counted how many times she spoke in English. And at the end she asks us if we have any questions? Of course I told her I couldn’t ask her anything since I didn’t understand 95% of what she was saying. The boat tour is not worth it, just take the bus that would be my advice. Second minus is the waiting times, in the boat they made us wait an hour before it departed, and in many stops with the buses waiting times of 20-30 minutes. I actually think I lost that day around 2 hours doing nothing. Be careful. Read more Written July 10, 2018

City Sightseeing Moscow Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour with Optional Cruise provided by City Sightseeing Moscow
Paul McCartney's psychedelic Wings 1972 double-decker tour bus goes up for auction - here's how much it could sell for
T he famed psychedelic Wings tour bus that housed rock legend Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney, his family and the band is heading for auction next week.
In a rare opportunity to snap up a time capsule of rock 'n' roll history, the double-decker bus that took Wings on a Europe Tour during the summer of 1972 is up for sale with Car & Classics, with pre-bids already open.
The auction runs from 22 to 29 April with bids expected to reach between £150,000 and £200,000.
Paul McCartney fans can get their hands on rock 'n' roll legacy set in perfect period condition, with the bus having been meticulously restored to the heyday of the bands' success and styled to recall The Beatles' Yellow Submarine album cover.
The 1953 open-topped bus travelled 7,500 miles across nine countries and 25 cities , taking Wings on tour.
It quickly gained worldwide fame, becoming the epicentre of an extraordinary band and family adventure.
Before Paul McCartney chose it for the Wings' tour, it was first used in the early '50's for Chelmsford bus routes as a closed upper deck bus before being converted to an open-top bus in '66 to take holiday-makers to and from Butlins.
In full running and working order - UK road registered and MOT testing and road tax exempt - the Bristol Gardner-powered 5LW 7-litre diesel bus is ready to take rock to the roads again.
As well as the perfectly recreated Geoffrey Cleghorn's exterior artwork, the interior has been perfectly restored to the era's atmosphere by David Hoare of Chepstow Classic Buses and Bradley Earl of Simon Morris Thorpe Ltd in Essex.
The revamped interior has wooden bunk beds (reflecting the original sleeping space for the band members' children), bright yellow curtains and the upper deck has a bespoke cover displaying '1972 Wings Tour Bus' graphics on the roof.
Wings' drummer Denny Seiwell has even donated his 1972 Wings touring trunk which accompanies the bus.
In additional rock era touches, the top deck restoration drew inspiration from The Beatles Rooftop Concert of 1969, featuring a newly imagined and engineered performance space, now aptly named 'The McCartney Stage'.
The bus wasn't just a comfortable way to travel Europe, it became the four-wheeled symbol of the tour that marked the rise of Wings after the glory days of The Beatles.
And it's not beyond the realms of possibility that numerous hit songs were potentially written within, including the iconic Bond theme 'Live and Let Die' recorded later that same year (1972) .
McCartney said in an interview: 'We knew we were going to tour in Europe and that the weather would be nice, and the idea of being stuck in a bus all the time, going from city to city, hotel to hotel, wasn't too appealing so we decided to travel around in an open-top bus and get some sunshine as we travelled from one place to another.'
Post-tour, the bus went back into active public service, before being bought in 2019 and restored in 2022.
Since its been used to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the pivotal 1972 Wings Over Europe Tour at The Classic Motor Show at the NEC, Birmingham, in November 2022.
Now this piece of automotive history offers a glimpse into the 'swinging Sixties', Carnaby Street, and the universal message of peace and love.
Incredibly it comes with the license by Sir Paul McCartney's company MPL to display the artwork, logos, band member's names and personal photos taken on the tour. It will be sold with artefacts and memorabilia.
Ready for its next custodian, this vehicle is likely to reach up to £200,000 on the online auction.
It's one of just three Beatles-related, custom-painted vehicles alongside John Lennon's psychedelic Rolls-Royce and George Harrison's similarly decorated Mini.
It's been features in numerous interviews and photographs with McCartney, Wings and even Princess Anne, as well as articles published worldwide.
