InsureandGo Review

Insureandgo travel insurance covers the basics well and a plan geared for cruises..

InsureandGo review

Top Ten Reviews Verdict

Although it does not cover the less likely trip emergencies, InsureandGo nonetheless covers the standard travel insurance needs well and is a choice worth considering if you're looking for bargain or cruise-specific options.

Why you can trust Top Ten Reviews Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

InsureandGo is a UK-based travel insurance company that provides coverage for travelers living in the UK, Ireland and Australia. An online-only insurer, InsureandGo offers a wide range of coverage and in the UK will consider coverage for any medical conditions, includes children on annual policies for free, and covers up to 50 adventure activities.

InsureandGo review: Plan options

InsureandGo travel insurance covers the basics for reimbursement should you have to cancel your trip or have a medical emergency during your travels. It also has a plan geared for cruises. While it lacks some of the features commonly found with the best travel insurance agencies, it is one of the cheapest we evaluated.

We priced out three different plans – a Mississippi river cruise, a vacation in France and an Antarctic adventure. In each case, InsureandGo's plans were significantly cheaper than most of the others in our lineup – sometimes hundreds of dollars below the average. In order to provide these less expensive plans, this trip insurance company does not cover some of the popular but less likely events that others insure, such as trip cancellation due to airline, tour company or cruise line insolvency. It also does not reimburse some of the smaller expenses, like change fees or lost prescriptions, and it lacks a concierge service that most travel insurance companies provide gratis.

InsureandGo review: Coverage

If you are more interested in the basic coverage, however, you may find it's a good deal. It compares well to other plans for how much it reimburses for cancellations, interruptions and delays, and is above average when it comes to lost luggage or baggage delays. It's one of the highest for covering medical expenses. In addition, it has cruise plans with extra coverage for missed departures and compensation for missed cruise days should illness confine you to your cabin.

This company does not provide concierge services, such as a hotline to call to get restaurant reservations, hotel recommendations or even help finding a lawyer. However, for medical emergencies, InsureandGo can locate a doctor for you. As with any insurance, the features, prices and terms vary by your need, so be sure to check the online contracts when you price out your specific plan. This agency does not reimburse lost mileage or cancellations due to default by the carrier.

InsureandGo review: Making a claim

We found the procedures and rules for filing to be about average. The travel insurance agency is clear about what it requires, specifically noting proof in writing for any event that may lead to a claim. As with other travel insurance companies, you need to download the form, but the forms include a checklist of the required paperwork. If you have questions of an administrative nature, you need to call during business hours, but there is a 24/7 line to call if you have an emergency while on your trip.

Should you choose InsureandGo?

While InsureandGo does not cover all the features of other higher-ranked travel insurances we reviewed, it nonetheless does a good job at covering the basics, with above-average compensation for medical needs and some extra considerations for cruises. The paperwork checklist on the claims form makes it easier to file a claim. It lacks some amenities like concierge service and a 24/7 line for non-emergency questions, but with one of the lowest rates of the insurances we reviewed, it's worth pricing out.

InsureandGo Australia was established in 2000 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Europ Assistance. It offers Australians different tiers of travel insurance–bare essentials, silver and gold–with all policies underwritten by Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company Limited.

InsureandGo is highly regarded by Australian travellers, receiving a score of 4.0 from 6,243 reviews on the leading consumer opinion site, ProductReview.

In the following review, Forbes Advisor has analysed InsureandGo’s Gold policy, as this is its most comprehensive policy available.

The InsureandGo Comprehensive Travel Insurance policy is available to all Australians up to the ripe old age of 100, with children up to 18 also included if they are travelling with parents or grandparents. (For cruise cover add-ons, Australians are only covered up to 79 years of age).

While InsureandGo won’t cover fraudulent credit card activity, it will cover credit card replacement. Additionally, there is personal liability cover up to $5 million and up to $8,000 for car hire excess cover.

There is unlimited cancellation cover with the InsureandGo Comprehensive Travel Insurance policy, however, there is no cover for missed connecting flights if the stopover on itinerary is less than six hours.

Lost Luggage

InsureandGo provides $15,000 in cover for lost luggage on its Gold policy. There are sub-limits that apply, including $3,000 for laptops, cameras, tablets, mobile phones and the like.

Customers can choose to increase cover limits for certain items if required.

Unlimited overseas medical expenses are included with InsureandGo travel insurance. This includes emergency surgery, ambulance costs or repatriation.

In regards to pre-existing medical conditions, the InsureandGo website claims that “most conditions” are covered by the policy. However, a medical assessment is required to determine whether cover will be provided, rather than being automatically included in the policy.

Is Dental Cover Included in Medical?

InsureandGo does not include dental in its unlimited medical cover, but it does still provide cover for emergency dental treatment up to the value of $500.

Does it Cover Me for Covid?

Yes, overseas medical expenses related to Covid-19 are covered. Cancellations or trip interruptions due to Covid are also covered for the policyholder and their travelling companions, up to the value of $5,000.

What about Pregnancy?

Pregnancy is included within the unlimited medical cover, with complications of pregnancy and childbirth also covered–but only until week 30 of the pregnancy for individual babies. For multiple babies (such as if you are pregnant with twins), InsureandGo will only provide cover until week 20.

What about Sports and Activities?

InsureandGo provides automatic cover for 90 different sports and activities, which are laid out within its product disclosure statemen t. There are additional activities that may be covered, but only if certain criteria are met.

The excess payable also varies from sport to sport, so it is essential for travellers looking to partake in sports and activities while abroad to carefully review the InsureandGo PDS.

Examples of activities that will not be covered under any circumstance by InsureandGo include cliff diving, paragliding, running with the bulls and more. InsureandGo states in its PDS that its list of excluded activities is “not a definitive list”, and rather is “intended to provide examples of sports and activities where cover is not available under this policy in any circumstances”.

To be covered for snow sports, travellers will need to purchase the additional snow sports cover.

Arranging a family holiday can be stressful enough without worrying about travel insurance. That’s why we make getting covered as quick and simple as possible.

All our family travel insurance policies include automatic cover for over 100 sports and activities at no extra cost.

What is family travel insurance and do you need it?

Family travel insurance is holiday cover for every member of the family, all under the same policy. Typically, family travel insurance will cover one or two adults and between one and eight children aged under 18.

  • A traveller visiting Thailand suffered a serious blood infection needing intensive medical treatment and an air ambulance back to the UK. The total bill was £250,000 paid by the travel insurer.
  • A holidaymaker in Spain needed private medical treatment for a kidney infection. This cost £15,000 , covered by her travel insurance.
  • Real customer claims we’ve paid out include; £42,227 for a superficial head injury in Turkey, and £239,743 for a spinal fracture in the USA.

If you’re heading out with the whole family, costs can quickly stack up. Making sure you’re covered in the event of an emergency is a weight off your mind. We’ll also cover costs for other unexpected issues and mishaps, like losing your luggage or problems with your accommodation, leaving you free to make memories with your family, worry-free.

What does InsureandGo’s family travel insurance cover?

What’s covered.

All our family holiday insurance policies include:

  • Medical emergency expenses cover
  • Cover for cancellation of your trip
  • Our 24-hour emergency assistance team , available to call, day or night, wherever you are
  • Over 100 sports and activities covered (see your policy wording for a full list of activities)
  • Personal belongings and baggage cover
  • Personal money, passports and travel documents cover
  • Accommodation cover
  • Legal expenses cover
  • Delayed departure cover
  • Personal accident cover

What’s not covered

We aim to provide as much cover as possible, however, there are some situations that travel insurance will not cover. For example:

  • You cannot cover events or reasons to claim which took place before you booked the trip or purchased insurance. Insurance exists to cover unexpected events outside of the insured’s control
  • Claims which are less than the excess for that section of cover. For example, you cannot claim a £40 lost item if your baggage excess is £60
  • All of our family travel insurance policies include cover for cancellation of your trip, but there may be some exclusions. For example, you won’t be covered to cancel if you simply decide not to go

Find out about our optional add ons for activities like extreme sports , winter sports , cruises and golf .

We will consider all pre-existing medical conditions, find out more about medical travel insurance . The excess and amount of cover available varies depending on the level of USA travel insurance you buy.

To check the policy exclusions and what is and isn’t included, make sure you have a look at our policy wording to see the full terms and conditions.

Age restrictions

We think family holiday insurance should cover the whole family. That’s why our policies have no upper age limit. Please note that we do not cover anyone over the age of 65 for winter sports like skiing or snowboarding.

The amount of valuables cover available depends on the policy you choose. Make sure you have a look at our policy wording to see the full terms and conditions, including what is and isn’t covered. If you’ll be taking away something a bit more expensive you can add our valuables extension .

The best family travel insurance for your holiday

All families are different, which is why we offer different types of insurance for every family. Not sure what policy is right for you? Here’s what we’d recommend.

  • Doing one big family trip this year? Our single trip insurance may work out cheaper for you and your family.
  • Heading out a few times? If you buy one of our annual multi-trip policies , you can travel as often as you like for an entire year!
  • Doing a trip with family friends? If multiple families are travelling together, we can offer group insurance policies.
  • Taking the grandparents? If you’re going on a multi-generational holiday, you can have kids, adults and grandparents all on one policy. Great grandparents too, if you like – our policies have no age limit .
  • Doing something special? We can cover winter sports , extreme sports , cruising and hiking for the entire family.
  • Want to expand your current policy to other family members? We can help with that. You can either manage your policy online or give our team a call and we’ll be happy to help.

Choose a cover level to suit your travel needs

Family travel insurance with pre-existing medical condition cover.

We don’t think that having a pre-existing medical condition should get in the way of a holiday. This is why we cover more than 1,300 pre-existing conditions, many at no extra cost.

If you or a family member has a pre-existing medical condition, we can offer medical travel insurance . We’ll simply ask a few questions about the condition so you have more time to get on with your holiday planning.

Examples of medical conditions we can cover include:

  • Heart-related conditions
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Disabilities
  • Epilepsy or Stroke

We consider a pre-existing medical condition if you’ve:

  • Taken any prescribed medication or received medical treatment within the last 2 years
  • Been registered in or been an outpatient at a hospital, clinic or GP surgery in the last 2 years.
  • Been advised of a terminal illness.

Before buying a family travel insurance policy, you must let us know about any pre-existing conditions you or your family members have. Just call us or use our quick and easy online medical screening system.

Which destinations are covered by our family travel insurance?

We offer family travel insurance policies based on the following destination groupings:

  • Europe (plus countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, plus Madeira and The Azores)*
  • Worldwide (except the USA , Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean)

*Europe includes: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Azores, Balearics, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia And Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canary Islands, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Madeira, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey.

If you’ve already bought annual multi-trip travel insurance for a particular area but are now going to be travelling further afield, we can upgrade your cover to include the new destination. Alternatively, you could purchase separate single-trip cover instead, but upgrading your annual travel insurance policy to include worldwide cover can often work out cheaper. If you’d like to discuss these options, or you’re still unsure which area your trip falls into, please contact us .

We can even cover grandparents, as our policies have no upper age limit. That’s a weight off your mind!” Russell Wallace – Travel insurance expert

Our reviews speak for themselves

Here’s what our other customers have to say about us.

Frequently asked questions on travel insurance for families

Does family travel insurance cover individuals.

Yes, our family travel insurance policies cover any adults over the age of 18 who want to travel alone. If you buy annual multi-trip family travel insurance, every adult on the policy over 18 is insured to travel independently.

Can children travel independently on family travel insurance?

Any children under 18 need to travel with an adult named on the family travel insurance policy to be covered.

However, any adults over 18 who are named on the policy can travel abroad at any time to be insured. Every adult on the policy is insured to travel independently.

Do I need family travel insurance for a UK holiday?

We’d recommend getting family travel insurance for any holiday, including a staycation. While your medical costs would be free if you’re staying in the UK , family travel insurance also covers other holiday mishaps, such as lost luggage, delays and cancellations.

Is family travel insurance cheaper than individual insurance?

We tailor pricing on an individual level, so the price of each policy will vary based on the individuals in the family.. You also can’t buy an individual policy for under 18s, so a family or group policy is essential to cover anyone younger than this.

One of the main benefits is that the family policy is less hassle. You’ll only have one policy to look at, one set of documents, and one provider to contact in case of an emergency. That’s a lot less to worry about.

Does travel insurance cover cancellation due to family illness?

Need to cut your family holiday short due to illness? We know this is the last thing you’d want to think about when planning time away but if anything was to happen and you needed to cancel/shorten your holiday then know you’re covered.

When should I buy family travel insurance?

You should purchase family travel insurance as soon as you have booked your holiday. This is a great way to ensure that you don’t forget to buy it, and you can avoid a last-minute scramble to get a policy later.

If that’s not possible, simply buy a family travel insurance policy as soon as possible. Don’t forget that you’ll need to have a policy in place before you leave the UK for it to be valid.

How much is family travel insurance?

The cost of family travel insurance varies, as it will depend on a few different factors. An insurance provider will need to know how many people they’ll need to cover, what their ages are, and whether they have any pre-existing conditions. It’s also likely they’ll want to know where you’re going on your family holiday, and whether or not you’ll be doing any activities, such as winter sports or extreme sports.

Do I need family travel insurance if we all have GHIC cards?

Yes, you’ll need family travel insurance even if you all have GHIC cards. The UK Government advises that all British nationals get the correct type of travel insurance before leaving the country.

The GHIC, formerly known as the EHIC, covers medical expense costs but does not insure you against anything else, such as transportation to and from a hospital, lost luggage, cancellations, delays or legal expenses.

Can I get a family policy for winter sports?

Yes, you can get a family policy for winter sports. All you need to do is add winter sports cover to your policy when you’re getting your quote. That way, the whole family is covered.

Already got a family policy that you need to add winter sports cover to? You can either manage your policy online or give our team a call and we can do that for you.

Can I get family travel insurance as a divorced or separated parent?

Yes, our Family Travel insurance covers children (even if they do not live with you) and stepchildren.  You will need to declare all their details, including medical conditions

Who can buy an InsureandGo family travel insurance policy?

All our family travel insurance policies are available to UK residents. This means:

  • Someone who has been living in the UK or the Channel Islands for at least six of the last 12 months
  • They must be in the UK at the time of buying
  • All trips must start and end in the UK

Choosing a travel insurance policy

Maddy was very helpful and informative which made the decision easier to make on what policy I should take out. It also encouraged me to use your company rather than others I have contacted.

Having received a renewal note on line I phoned InsureandGo with a specific query. This was dealt with quickly and efficiently by Finn who also arranged for renewal over the phone and at an even more competetive price than I expected. Great Customer Service!

Extremely helpful and pleasant customer service

Maddy at customer service was extremely helpful. Gave me all the information I needed to make an informed choice. Explained all the relevant details thoroughly. She was very pleasant and friendly person and I was happy to accept the quote she gave me.

More haste less speed.

Good service except when my documents came through on line the address house number read as 9 9 instead of 9. Which meant ringing up and once again having to endure the verbal diahorea, before getting through to someone, who then had to transfer me to somebody else. The daily grind of dealing with large companies.

Owen is a great advocate for Insure & Go

Owen was super friendly, respectful and helpful. He explained the various options and made sure that all our medication etc was fully disclosed. Owen explained the gold policy that I purchased and the benefits. Altogether a good experience.

reviewStaff were very pleasant and curious

Staff were very pleasant and curious, quickly sorted and ready to go. Only minor is cost as it's risen by £324.75 since last year and unfortunately it's my lifeline to be able to travel abroad in order to see my family.

Very helpfull not pushing you to get top insurance and have a good knowledge of medical problems you may have, a very friendly sales person. The only problem was not a very clear phone line.

Insurance for River Cruise.

A prefect telephone service from a most helpful and pleasant assistant, Louise. She was extremely polite and took an interest in me as a customer. All aspects of the policy were clearly explained.

Great easy experience

Abdullah did not push me to accept the quote. He was polite, informative, knowledgeable and friendly throughout. Good cover for a very good price

Excellent Travel Insurance Company

Have used InsureandGo for years and have always found them very easy to deal with. Was looking to alter the date of my auto-renew and change the zones covered. Aaron was extremely helpful and it was all sorted in a few minutes.

I would choose another company

Quick to take my money and give me ‘cover’ but 2-3 months after incident aboard where my bag was stolen. They have done nothing to make sure I’m covered and reimbursed. Keep getting told ‘ we will get back to you shortly’ so slow to help compared to other company’s I’ve used in the past. I wouldn’t be using there service again.

Why you should renew your car insurance policy on time.

Whatsapp Follow Channel

Renew car insurance promptly to comply with the law, avoid financial burdens, and maintain benefits like no-claim bonuses. Online services simplify the process, ensuring continuous coverage and hassle-free renewals.

Reasons to renew your car insurance on time

  • To ease your financial burden: If you own a car, it is important to keep a valid car insurance policy handy. In case your car meets with an accident, a comprehensive car insurance policy will cover your own as well as third-party liabilities and save you from financial setbacks. On the other hand, if your car injures a third party and your insurance policy has lapsed, you will have to compensate the third party from your pocket and also bear other associated expenses.
  • To avoid legal issues: Driving a car without a valid car insurance policy is illegal in India. The Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 mandates car owners to have at least a basic third-party car insurance policy to avoid legal issues. Therefore, if you drive with an expired insurance policy and you happen to get caught by the traffic police, you will be fined for the same.
  • To prevent heavy repair expenses: If your car needs repair after an accident, your comprehensive car insurance policy will cover the bills. However, if your insurance policy has expired, you will be forced to pay the garage bills from your savings.
  • To ensure continuous coverage: Renewal of car insurance policy on time is crucial for continuous coverage. It is best to renew the policy on or before the expiry date. This is important because insurance companies do not offer coverage when the policy is in the grace period. For example, suppose you fail to renew your policy, and it is under a grace period. If your car meets with an accident during this time and you raise a claim, the insurer will reject the same.
  • To prevent a no-claim bonus reset: If you don’t renew your car insurance policy even during the grace period, your policy will officially lapse. This will leave you without car insurance, and you will also lose the accumulated no-claim bonus on your policy. Since a no-claim bonus in car insurance can reduce policy premiums by a significant percentage, losing it will only increase your financial burden when you buy a new insurance cover. Most insurance providers in India offer a no-claim bonus of 20% to policyholders for a claim-free year. If you don’t make claims for 5 consecutive policy years, the no-claim bonus can go up to 50%. Renewing your policy on time will keep your no-claim bonus intact and help you save big on policy premiums.
  • To avoid vehicle inspection: If your car insurance policy expires and you apply for a new one, the insurance provider may appoint a surveyor to inspect your car. The surveyor will check the vehicle thoroughly for pre-existing damages. The presence of damages will increase the premium of your car insurance policy. Moreover, the entire inspection process may take time, and your car will remain uninsured during this period.
  • Higher premiums: If your car insurance policy expires due to non-renewal and you buy a new one later, you may have to pay higher policy premiums. Insurance companies increase premiums if there is a significant gap between the expiry date of the old policy and the purchase of the new one.

A simple guide to car insurance and 6 ways to cut your premium

Get the lowdown on insuring a car - from the mysteries of a no claims bonus to the different types of cover.

What Drives Me

Running a car is more expensive than ever, so it's really important to keep your costs down. If you haven't bought outright, then you'll have to budget for your monthly finance payments; then there's fuel or charging, road tax , servicing, maintenance and repairs. Other expenses include breakdown cover, parking fees and permits, and tolls.

However, one of the biggest costs is insurance, and premiums are soaring. The cost of car insurance has surged by 46% in a year adding £292 to the average annual cost.

The punishing increase has taken the average annual premium up to £892, according to the Compare the Market comparison site.

Car insurance is essential when unfortunate accidents like this happen

What is car insurance?

Car insurance protects you if your car is involved in an accident, stolen, vandalised or damaged by fire. As well as covering your car, motor insurance covers you for any damage you might cause to other vehicles, other people’s property, and injuries to other people.

Why do I need car insurance?

You must have motor insurance to drive your vehicle on UK roads. It protects you, your vehicle and other motorists against liability in case there is an accident. It provides financial compensation to cover any injuries caused to people or their property.

Penalties for driving without insurance range from a fine and at least six points on your licence, to being disqualified from driving. The police can also seize, and in some cases, destroy the vehicle that’s being driven uninsured.

A vehicle was stolen every eight minutes 12 seconds on average in 2023

Different types of motor insurance cover explained:

Third party .

This cover is the minimum legal requirement. It makes sure that compensation is available for injury to other people (including your passengers) or damage to other people's property resulting from an accident caused by you. It doesn't cover any of your costs as the result of an accident.

Third party fire and theft

Providing the same cover as third party only, TFT also insures you should your vehicle be damaged by fire or is stolen.

Comprehensive

This provides the same cover as third party fire and theft. However, it also covers you should your vehicle be damaged in an accident. Additions to this level of cover can include providing a courtesy car while your car is being repaired, legal expenses and roadside recovery.

Taking photos of your damaged can help to support an insurance claim

How much does car insurance cost?

The premium your pay to insure your car will depend on a number of factors including the type of vehicle you drive (the less powerful the better), whether you use your car for business, pleasure or commuting, your age, driving history and where you live.

Voluntary excess is also important. This is the amount you’re willing to pay towards the cost of a claim, in addition to the Compulsory excess. A higher figure will help to cut your premium, but only set a voluntary excess amount you're confident you'd be able to pay.

Adding an additional driver to your policy, such as your partner, could also lower your premium. However, adding young or inexperienced drivers would probably increase it.

Why car insurance is going up?

There are various reasons why the cost of insuring a car has soared over the past year especially.

Inflation is a major factor because it has pushed up the cost of repairs, replacement parts, energy costs and even the price of paint.

The cost to replace written-off vehicles has also increased as the average price of new cars has risen.

There's also an argument that today's sophisticated cars are helping to fuel insurance price hikes because their repair costs are higher. A simple bumper replacement now involves the replacement of expensive sensors for everything from parking to autonomous emergency braking (AEB).

Electric cars are more expensive to insure than their petrol equivalents

Are EVs more expensive to insure?

There is growing evidence that drivers of electric vehicles are being charged more to insure their cars than owners of conventional cars with petrol and diesel engines. Again, there are many reasons why electric car premiums have been hit harder.

One of the biggest ones is that EVs tend to be higher value, which means that insurers assume repair parts or fully replacing the car will cost them more.

RELATED:  6 things you need to know before buying your first electric car

Also, younger drivers have traditionally chosen cheaper, older, slower, smaller-engined cars. However, EVs are more expensive, newer, more powerful and faster, which means that they are at a higher risk of being involved in an accident.

EVs are also built with advanced technology and parts, meaning they're more expensive to repair or replace in the event of a claim. Some EVs take longer to fix too or require specialist mechanics, while the high cost of repairing and replacing batteries meaning EVs are more commonly written off.

What is a No Claims Bonus?

Also known as a No Claim Discount (NCD), a No Claims Bonus (NCB) is a discount your insurer can apply to the price of your car insurance policy to recognise your claim-free driving history.

The amount of money varies for each insurer, but the more consecutive years you go without making a claim, the greater the discount you might get.

The little Volkswagen up! is one of the cheapest cars to insure

Car insurance groups explained

Cars are placed in insurance groups, also known as insurance bands, to help calculate the cost of insurance policies. Broadly speaking, the lower the number, the cheaper a vehicle is to insure.

There are 50 car insurance groups. Cars in insurance Group 1 are the cheapest to insure, while vehicles in Group 50 are the most expensive to insure.

Small cars, such as the Skoda Citigo, Kia Picanto, Hyundai i10 and Volkswagen Up!, tend to be in the cheapest groups. Family cars including the Nissan Qashqai range between 11-25, while a Tesla Model Y falls into groups 46-50.

Ways to lower your annual premium

There are things you can do to cut the cost of your car insurance. Here are six of the best:

Choose the right car

When you're choosing your next car, check what it will cost to insure. The basic rule of thumb is that the more impressive the vehicle, the more it will cost to insure. Not only will it attract thieves and vandals, it will cost more to repair and is more likely to be involved in an accident because it's likely to be powerful and fast.

Car Insurance Schedule Document

Pay upfront

When you find a car insurance policy that ticks all the right boxes, you'll probably be given the opportunity to pay in one lump sum or in monthly instalments. If possible, pay upfront because by paying monthly you are effectively taking out a loan from the insurer with added interest rates.

Shop around

One of the best ways to find cheaper car insurance is by shopping around and comparing prices in the weeks before your renewal. Use comparison websites like Go.Compare, MoneySuperMarket and Compare the Market, and if you find a cheaper price don't be afraid to go back to your insurer and ask it to match or lower the price. The golden rule is never to allow your policy to auto-renew. Even if you don't find a cheaper quote elsewhere, the odds are that you will be offered a better deal with your existing insurer if you tell them you're thinking of switching.

Drive sensibly

Avoid accidents and speeding fines because these will impact your policy. Whether an accident is your fault or not, making a claim will usually lead to an increase in your car insurance premium the following year. Insurance companies also take a dim view of points on your licence because they suggest a higher risk of accidents and claims.

Location, location, location

Insurance companies assess crimes relating to car theft, fire and vandalism in your area, so changing your address could affect the cost of your car insurance premium. Insurers will also offer you a more affordable premium if you keep your car in a secure garage on a driveway overnight, rather than on the road.

Mileage matters

Most people estimate their mileage when getting a car insurance quote, but it's not that difficult to get a more accurate figure, which could help lower your premium. Check your MOT history online or using recent certificates. They will show your mileage from previous years. Car insurance premiums are usually cheaper for those who drive fewer miles, because the more miles you drive, the greater the chance of having an accident.
