Day 1 Hanoi

Day 1 Hanoi

Saturday. Welcome to Hanoi, a city known for its grace, unique atmosphere, and exotic charm, making it one of the most captivating capital cities in Asia. You will be transferred from the airport to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure, allowing you to discover the city's wide tree-lined avenues, picturesque lakes, ancient pagodas, and the vibrant historic old town, all easily explored on foot. For those arriving very early today or the day before, consider joining our optional Back Streets of Hanoi add-on. This exploration takes you through the charming districts of Cho Buoi, Hoang Hoa Tham, and Vinh Phuc, offering an exciting local experience—riding pillion on taxi-motorbikes through a labyrinth of narrow streets and along the scenic Ho Tay Lake shoreline.

Day 2 Halong Bay

Day 2 Halong Bay

Hanoi – Halong Bay. Following breakfast this morning, we depart from Hanoi and head to the gem in Vietnam's picturesque crown – the incredibly stunning Halong Bay. Aboard a traditional wooden junk boat, we navigate the jade waters adorned with karst islands. After embarkation, there's a delightful lunch with panoramic views. In the afternoon, we explore Trinh Nu Cave, one of Halong Bay's finest caves, spanning an area of 2,000m² and showcasing a breathtaking array of stalactites and stalagmites. You also have the opportunity to engage in kayaking and take a refreshing swim. Later in the evening, back on board, witness a Vietnamese cooking demonstration held on the sundeck before indulging in a lavish seafood dinner.

Day 3 Halong Bay

Day 3 Halong Bay

Halong Bay - Hanoi - Hue. For those early risers, the day kicks off with a serene Tai Chi class on the sundeck or indulging in a traditional massage – a perfect morning ritual. Prior to returning to port this morning, we venture into the enchanting Sung Sot cave (Surprise Grotto), a colossal 10,000m² cave featuring two grand chambers that are awe-inspiring and spacious enough to accommodate a multitude of visitors. Returning to Hanoi in the mid-afternoon, we embark on a cyclo (rickshaw) adventure through the labyrinth of streets in the French Quarter. Highlights of the journey include the Opera house and Ly Thai To park. We then transition from wheels to a leisurely stroll through the '36 streets of the old quarter,' named after the various guilds that once occupied a particular street, from silk tailors to traditional medicine shops. Later in the evening, there's an opportunity to freshen up before boarding the train (4-berth sleeper cabin, basic standard) on the 'Reunification Express' railway line bound for Hue. An alternative option to fly from Hanoi to Hue is also available.

Day 4 Hue

Upon reaching Hue, we commence a guided exploration of the 19th-century Nguyen empire capital. Our itinerary includes a visit to the Thien Mu Pagoda, housing the oldest monastery in the city, characterized by its 21m high tower, which has become an iconic symbol of Hue and the citadel. Within the citadel, we encounter the Imperial Purple Palace, an exact replica of the Forbidden City in Beijing, featuring impressive ramparts, formal moats, and imperial palaces, some of which are in a state of ruin. Venturing into the countryside, we discover the Royal Tombs of the Nguyen kings, with a particular focus on the elaborate mausoleum of Emperor Tu Duc. As the sun sets, there's an optional long boat cruise along the tranquil Perfume River, offering enchanting views of the illuminated surroundings.

Day 5 Hoi An

Day 5 Hoi An

Hue - Hai Van Pass - Hoi An. Today, our route takes us through the picturesque Hai Van Pass, often referred to as the "Road of the Ocean Clouds." This scenic journey unfolds breathtaking vistas of beaches on one side and lush hills on the other. Along the way, we pause for a leisurely stroll on My Khe beach, a pristine coastal stretch known as 'China Beach' during the war, featured prominently in Francis Ford Coppola’s film 'Apocalypse Now.' You might opt for a refreshing swim in the sea before resuming our southward travel along the coastal route to Hoi An.

Hoi An, a captivating old-world trading port, welcomes us with its cobblestone streets, traditional residences, and small shop houses, providing a glimpse into a bygone era. The town boasts boutique restaurants, trendy waterfront cafes, charming craft shops, and skilled artisans, particularly renowned bespoke tailors offering services at reasonable prices. Our brief walking tour of this historically rich town includes visits to Chua Ong Pagoda, the Chinese Assembly Hall, the 200-year-old Tam Ky house, former merchants’ residences, and the iconic 400-year-old Japanese Covered Bridge.

During your time in Hoi An, consider the unique optional Hoi An Street Eats add-on, an exploration of the city's popular local eateries. Experience the city's pulse on a vintage Vespa, savoring a variety of delicious Vietnamese cuisine. Secure your spot early through your reservation consultant, as availability is limited.

Day 6 Hoi An

Day 6 Hoi An

Embark on a cycling excursion into the rural landscapes, guiding us to Tra Que village. In this quaint locale, we delve into time-honored agricultural methods and delve into the realm of traditional medicine. Today is a hands-on experience, as we actively participate in field and garden maintenance and join in the preparation of a delightful lunch!

Day 7 Hoi An

Day 7 Hoi An

Enjoy a leisurely day to unwind or explore more sights. You might consider a serene rowboat excursion along the river or indulge in a day of relaxation by the beach or hotel pool. Alternatively, you can choose to embark on an adventure to the UNESCO-listed My Son sanctuary or opt for a day trip to the Ba Na Hills. Here, you can experience the world's second-longest cable car ride, explore the resort, and stroll along the remarkable Golden Bridge (booking and payment on-site).

Day 8 Can Tho

Day 8 Can Tho

Depart from Hoi An and catch an early flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Afterward, embark on a journey to the Mekong Delta, often known as the 'rice bowl' of Vietnam. This region is renowned for its lush harvests of tropical fruits, flowers, and rice, offering picturesque landscapes along its intricate network of canals. Boarding our sampan in Cai Be, we navigate through the waterways, observing the vibrant daily life on the riverbanks. Passing by colorful trading boats, houseboats, and playful children swimming, we make stops to explore local cottage industries producing popcorn, coconut candies, and paper. Today's lunch is served in a traditional wooden home on Dong Hoa Hiep Island.

Day 9 Ho Chi Minh City

Day 9 Ho Chi Minh City

Departing from Can Tho, we make an early visit to the bustling Cai Rang floating market today. Witness the vibrant scene as waterborne vendors trade melons, pineapples, fresh greens, sacks of rice, and children's toys at impressive heights and speed from one sampan to another. Afterward, we journey back to Ho Chi Minh City. Formerly known as the Pearl of the Orient, contemporary Ho Chi Minh City is a dynamic urban center in constant motion. Modern skyscrapers, gourmet dining establishments, upscale malls, and trendy bars and spas coexist with ancient pagodas, colonial-era landmarks, and bustling street markets. Our walking tour of Ho Chi Minh City encompasses visits to the Notre Dame Cathedral, Old Post Office, and the poignant War Remnants Museum. The evening is yours to enjoy at your leisure.

Day 10 Ho Chi Minh City

Day 10 Ho Chi Minh City

On Monday, take advantage of a leisure day to explore and savor the vibrant atmosphere of Ho Chi Minh City before your departure transfer to the airport. Consider indulging in a soothing foot massage, exploring souvenirs at Ben Thanh Market, or visiting the majestic Independence Palace with its concealed bunker and subterranean military command center. Alternatively, you have the option to extend your stay and join a day trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Delve underground to navigate the extensive network of tunnels and hideouts utilized by Viet Cong guerrilla fighters. Witness booby traps, trap doors, or even test your marksmanship with an AK-47 at the firing range.
