“I don’t know of anybody who’s done it,” ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus tells Apple Music. “Is there anybody?” He could be talking about the improbability of a Swedish pop group comprising two formerly married couples selling nearly 400 million albums worldwide and counting. He could also mean their impending residency at a purpose-built arena in London in which all four members will perform as ABBAtars—painstakingly motion-captured renderings of their circa-1978 selves—with a live band, potentially until, or beyond, the collapse of civilization. But he’s actually referring to the fact that ABBA is releasing their first album of new music in 40 years, an event that bears little historical precedent. “I constantly have those moments when I think, ‘How the hell did this all happen? Why is it that suddenly on TikTok two million people are following what we are doing?’ It's weird. It's all weird.” This unlikely occurrence started becoming more likely around 2018 when Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson wrote two songs, the cheekily self-referential “I Still Have Faith in You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down,” for possible inclusion in the show, and approached their former partners, singers Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. “We asked the ladies and they were absolutely enthusiastic about going into the studio and trying their voices again,” Ulvaeus says. “And then after a while we thought, why not record a couple more? And there was absolutely nobody breathing down our necks.” The result is Voyage—nine new songs and one resurrected from their original incarnation, fitting for a project that renders the very notion of the passage of time meaningless. While ABBA's legacy is long since assured, their ABBAtars could revolutionize the prospects for artists looking to secure career options beyond this mortal coil. “The reason why it works is that we are still alive,” Ulvaeus says. “The cranium does not change over time. The rest of your body falls apart, but the cranium, they could take exact measurements, which they cannot with a video of Elvis. I bet you there are a lot of singers who will have these in a couple years. Everyone should have an ABBAtar.” Take a chance on these stories behind the songs on Voyage from Ulvaeus himself. "I Still Have Faith in You" “When Benny played it to me, I thought, ‘This is really epic.’ It's about us and the bonds we have, about the loyalty we have to each other, and celebrating the fantastic career that we've gone through. Or haven't gone through—there's a lot left of it, as it seems—but there are more layers than that today in that lyric, but that I want the listener to find out by himself.” "When You Danced With Me" “It's a bit Nordic, but maybe more Scottish and Irish. I lived in England for six years, between '84 and ’90, and I used to see these fairs that they had in the villages for the children. And that's what I saw before me when I heard the melody: a village fair, but somewhere in Ireland. It's about leavers and remainers. I grew up in a small town and I left it when I was 20. But somehow I'd come back to that little town and feel I have roots there.” "Little Things" “Benny tells me he didn't think of it as a Christmas song, but I, the minute I heard it, I said it cannot be anything else. It is early, early Christmas morning. The stockings are hanging right there and then this couple wakes up. This could be played for Christmases to come. And that would be great, because we want to own Christmas and New Year's Eve, like with [1980’s] 'Happy New Year.'” "Don't Shut Me Down" “At that time we were kind of getting the hang of what the ABBAtars would be. This is about a woman who has broken up and regrets breaking up. And she is going to come back and see if the guy will take her back. So she sits on a bench in a park and it gets dark. And finally she gets the courage up to go and knock on the door. That's it at face value, but I see it as us, as ABBAtars, knocking on the doors of the fans: Please take us as we are now and don't shut us down. It's a little flirt with the disco of the '70s, but other than that, I don't think that any of the old songs have had any impact on the new songs.” "Just a Notion" “It's from '78 and it's never been released in its entirety before. There's been snippets on YouTube, but we thought it's a great song and it has very good vocals on it. Benny did a new backing track, so the band is new but the voices are old. And it illustrates in a way what we are doing in the ABBAtar concert in London, because we will have a live band but the original vocals.” "I Can Be That Woman" “It's a country song, in essence. And a little gesture to the queen of country, as far as I'm concerned: Tammy Wynette. The good dog is called Tammy. There's a lot of stuff going into that song, but it's basically about someone who has come down from an addiction and finally come down into real life and is sorry about all the wasted years. But there's hope at the end of the tunnel: I can be that woman now. Only we know what is fact and what is fiction about our life experiences together. It's a kind of freedom that you get. With 70, you get that freedom.” "Keep an Eye on Dan" “Dan is the little child; his two parents are divorced and he is being left with one parent. All of us who have been divorced know what it's like to leave that little kid and seeing how absorbed that little kid is with the other parent. And he waves, or she, and you stand there and you feel, 'Argh.' I find it interesting to explore things that happen in relationships that haven't been explored before. I don't think that this has.” "Bumblebee" “I've always found bumblebees or squids as powerful symbols for what we might lose with climate change. It's a symbol of the loneliness we will feel when these creatures perhaps vanish because they cannot adapt.” "No Doubt About It" “I've known a few people who kind of flare up and can't help it, but then very quickly sort of get calm again and say, 'Sorry, sorry, I shouldn't have done that. I shouldn't have said that.' So it is this woman, in that situation she is incensed with her husband, who is very calm. He knows, he just waits for it. And in the end it comes.” "Ode to Freedom" “The concept of freedom is so intriguing and it's so different for different kinds of people. This song is so majestic. I could never say what my freedom is, because that would be received as, 'Oh, you can say that you are rich, you're famous. Da, da.' This is not my ode to freedom; it's about how if I ever wrote one, it would be simple. I don't know what it would be about, but I wish someone would write one.”

ABBA have today announced confirmation of their return for the first time in 40 years, with two new songs, an upcoming complete new album and, in 2022, a revolutionary digital concert spectacular.

The quartet of Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid, one of the most successful pop groups of all time, have not only recorded two new songs available today, “I Still Have Faith In You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down,” but have completed an entire new album, Voyage . They worked on it together at Benny’s studio, Riksmixningsverket, in Stockholm, for release by Universal Music Group on November 5.

‘eat to the beat’: how blondie served up a new wave classic, beauty queens: the stories behind roxy music’s album covers.

ABBA - I Still Have Faith In You

“I Still Have Faith In You,” which has a music video directed by Shynola, is an atmospheric, slow tempo piece that builds dramatically with harmonized choruses and rock guitar accompaniment. “Don’t Shut Me Down” also starts slowly, but soon picks up pace with an infectious beat. Both tracks have the powerful vocals and intelligent lyrics that characterized the group’s songbook in their earlier years together.

The album title mirrors the forthcoming live experience, ABBA Voyage , which will open on May 27, 2022 at the purpose-built ABBA Arena. The state-of-the-art 3,000 capacity arena will be located at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

Don't Shut Me Down

“It’s been a while since we made music together,” say the four members of ABBA. “Almost 40 years, actually. We took a break in the spring of 1982 and now we’ve decided it’s time to end it. They say it’s foolhardy to wait more than 40 years between albums, so we’ve recorded a follow-up to The Visitors .

“To tell the truth, the main inspiration to record again comes from our involvement in creating the strangest and most spectacular concert you could ever dream of. We’re going to be able to sit back in an audience and watch our digital selves perform our songs on a stage in a custom-built arena in London next spring. Weird and wonderful!”

The concert experience will feature digital versions of ABBA which have been created after weeks and months of motion-capture and performance techniques, involving the four band members and an 850-strong team from George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic. It marks the company’s first venture into music. Pre-registration for tickets opens at 6 pm BST tonight (2) on abbavoyage.com . Tickets go on general sale from next Tuesday, September 7.

The ABBA Voyage concert is made with the help of producer Svana Gisla ( David Bowie Blackstar /“Lazarus,” Beyoncé and Jay Z for HBO, Springsteen and I) ; producer Ludvig Andersson ( And Then We Danced , Yung Lean – “In My Head,” Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) ; director Baillie Walsh ( Flashbacks of a Fool, Being James Bond, Springsteen and I ); co-executive producer Johan Renck ( Spaceman , David Bowie Blackstar /“Lazarus,” Chernobyl ); and choreographer Wayne McGregor CBE (The Royal Ballet, Company Wayne McGregor, Paris Opera Ballet).

“The magic of ABBA and the herculean efforts of this whole magnificent team reaches a long-awaited milestone today,” say Gisla and Andersson. “To be able to finally share this endeavor with the world is a proud moment for us and we can’t wait to welcome you to our arena in East London, a place where we are so happy to be.”

Notes director Walsh: “I watched ABBA win the Eurovision song contest in 1974, and never did I imagine that 47 years later I would be with them on this extraordinary voyage. Life is weird and wonderful sometimes.”

McGregor reflects: “Imagine: growing up in the North of England in the 70s and learning to ballroom, Latin and disco dance to the incredible songs of ABBA. I was 8 and I was totally transported. Fast forward to 2020, being in Sweden and dancing with ABBA – in real life! I was about to be 50 and I was totally transported again. That is the magic of ABBA.

“We have shared many creative and joyful adventures with a bold collaborative team to make the impossible possible for ABBA Voyage : technological wizardry, state-of-the-art immersion, and entertainment innovation,” he continues. “And still at its searing heart we simply have new songs, new moves, classic songs, classic moves: ABBA is DANCE and always will be. See you on the dancefloor.”

Sir Lucian Grainge, chairman & CEO, Universal Music Group, says: “From the very beginning of my career, and having had the privilege to work with them directly for many years since, it’s been a tremendous joy to be surrounded by ABBA and their music. Their boundless creativity and timeless melodies make us want to partner with them on everything they do because we know it will be simply great.”

Tickets for ABBA Voyage will be available from 10 am BST on Sunday (5) for fans who have pre-ordered the album from the official ABBA store, and from 10 am on September 6 for those who have pre-registered. General on-sale commences at 10 am BST on September 7 at abbavoyage.com .

‘Thank you for waiting’

In further comments released today about their return, ABBA add: “To all of you who patiently have followed us in some way or another these past decades: Thank you for waiting – it’s time for a new journey to begin. We simply call it Voyage and we’re truly sailing in uncharted waters. With the help of our younger selves, we travel into the future. It’s not easy to explain but then it hasn’t been done before.”

Says Benny: “It’s hard to say what’s been the most joyful thing for me with this project. If it’s the involvement in creating the concert together with everyone or being back in the studio together again after 40 years. I think hearing Frida and Agnetha singing again is hard to beat. When you come to the arena you will have the four of us together with an absolutely glorious 10-piece band. And even if not in the flesh, we will be right there, thanks to the work of the creative team and ILM.”

Anni-Frid adds: “Those first sessions back in 2018 were such fun and when Benny called and asked if I’d consider singing some more I jumped at it! And what songs!! My respect and love go out to these exceptionally talented, truly genius songwriters! Such joy it was to work with the group again. I am so happy with what we have made, and I dearly hope our fans feel the same.”

Agnetha comments: “When we got back together in the studio I had no idea what to expect…but Benny’s recording studio is such a friendly and safe environment, and before I knew it I was really enjoying myself! I can hardly believe that finally, the moment has come to share this with the world!”

Bjorn completes the group’s comments by saying of Agnetha and Anni-Frid: “They’re such amazing singers those two, I was completely floored by the way they delivered those songs. They’re true musicians; totally unimpressed by pop star glamour but still having a great time being creative in a recording studio. The Voyage project has injected new life into us in more ways than one.”

Collectively, ABBA conclude: “So, again, thanks for waiting! We hope to see you in the ABBA Arena and yes – see – because we have infused a good deal of our souls into those avatars. It’s not an exaggeration to say that we’re back.”

Abba announce new album, Voyage, release two new songs and confirm avatar concert plans

Swedish superstars return with new material and tech-powered gigs

Abba, one of the biggest pop bands of all time, have confirmed that their long-awaited new album, Voyage, will be released on 5 November and contain 10 new songs.

Ahead of the release, the band have unveiled two new singles, I Still Have Faith In You and Don’t Shut Me Down, both of which are available to stream now.

Although the band won’t be reuniting on stage in the traditional sense, they’ve also set sail on the Abba Voyage, a virtual concert experience that will see their avatars - or Abbatars, as everyone will probably be calling them - accompanied by a 10-piece live band in a custom-built arena at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London.

This will take place in Spring 2022 - you can register for early ticket access on the Abba Voyage website.

Thank you (again) for the music, ABBA !

The iconic Swedish pop band, best known for beloved classics like "Dancing Queen" and "Mamma Mia," sharedtwo brand-new songs and announced an upcoming album and virtual concert during a YouTube livestream on Thursday.

During the global event, ABBA members Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson signed on live from London to unveil a video for the group's new song "I Still Have Faith in You" that boasted a montage of images from past performances and cuts to glowing orbs and stars. The pair later debuted a second song, "Don't Shut Me Down," after revealing that their first LP in four decades will be titled Voyage. The album, out Nov. 5, will contain 10 new tracks and be followed by a spring 2022 concert series, ABBA Voyage , featuring ABBA avatars (or, "ABBA-tars") and a real-life 10-piece band performing in a custom-built arena at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

ABBA disciples have been eagerly awaiting fresh material from the 1970s pop quartet — made up of Ulvaeus, Andersson, Agnetha Fältskog, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, a.k.a. Frida — since they split up in 1983, and this week they finally got it.

Premiering "I Still Have Faith in You" — a nostalgic ode to the foursome's lasting friendship, complete with the lyrics "Do I have it in me/I know it is in there/I know I have a bittersweet song in the memories we share" — Andersson said, "It's about realizing that it's inconceivable to be where we are. No imagination could dream up that, to release an album after 40 years and still be the best of friends, and still be enjoying each other's company, and have a total loyalty. Who has experienced that? Nobody."

Watching the montage and recalling the group's reunion in the studio, Ulvaeus said, "The bonds that we have were so clear. It was great. It all came rushing back in a matter of seconds… We went into the studio knowing that if we didn't think it was up to scratch, we would never release it. So we're proud of it."

Andersson described Voyage as "a mixture of everything," including a Christmas tune. "There's a certain depth to it," he explained, "a lot of experience and a lot of years in there that I hope people can hear."

"We never looked at what the charts look like today — we never speculated," said Ulvaeus. "We decided to… record the songs the best we could." Added Andersson, "We're not competing with Drake," reasoning that they couldn't even if they wanted to "because we don't know what the modern pop artists are doing."

The LP's other new cut, "Don't Shut Me Down," is a more upbeat affair that recalls what many consider ABBA's most treasured hit, "Dancing Queen." It includes bracing lines like "I'm like a dream within a dream that's been decoded/I'm fired up/Don't shut me down" and "I've learned to cope and love and hope/That's why I'm here now."

The ABBA Voyage concert series, which kicks off May 27, will incorporate special motion-capture technology that documented the band member's movements, mannerisms, and singing for five weeks in Stockholm to reimagine them in digital form.

"What you're going to see when you come to this show is actually us," said Ulvaeus, adding, "We've been longing for this for such a long time." Joked Andersson, "We wanted to do it before we were dead."

Describing the recording and motion-capture process, Ulvaeus said, "We got so used to going there each day. It was like going to work… even though we looked ridiculous in our leotards."

The concerts will feature the "ABBA-tars" belting out a set of 22 songs and will serve as mostly a greatest-hits spectacles; while attendees will enjoy two new tracks, the group began the motion-capture process before the rest of their new album was written. The "ABBA-tars" were designed by Industrial Light and Magic, the visual effects company founded by George Lucas.

"Agnetha, Frida, Benny, and Bjorn got on stage in front of 160 cameras and almost as many VFX geniuses, and they performed every song in this show, to perfection, over five weeks," said producer Ludvig Andersson in a pre-recorded interview during Thursday's event.

ABBA announced they had regrouped in 2016 and then revealed in 2018 that they had plans to release new music. Despite recording "I Still Have Faith in You" and "Don't Shut Me Down" that year, the group pushed back the release date of the promised tracks multiple times, partly because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In May of this year, Ulvaeus stated in an interview with The Herald Sun that it was "definite" the group would release new music in 2021, adding, "It will happen." On Thursday, it finally did.

ABBA formed in 1972, but it wasn't until they won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with their breakthrough hit, "Waterloo," that they took the world by storm. They were Sweden's first winner of the competition and quickly became one of the most commercially successful groups in pop music history, topping the charts all around the globe (they topped the U.K. album chart eight consecutive times, alone) and selling some 150 million records worldwide. They remain one of the best-selling acts of all time.

The band began teasing Voyage on August 26, when a website and social media accounts sporting the name popped up online. Until Thursday's big reveal, the site and accounts merely pointed to the date and time of the livestream — Sept. 2 — and featured a cryptic image of four glowing rings.

Although this is the first time the group has released new music since the '80s, ABBA has collaborated on various projects over the years, including the stage musical-turned-blockbuster-movie Mamma Mia! and its sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again , as well as a 50th-anniversary appearance at a party at the Berns Salonger hotel in downtown Stockholm in June 2016.

The first two singles from Voyage, "I Still Have Faith in You" and "Don't Shut Me Down," are available to stream right now. You can preorder Voyage the album on AbbaVoyage.com . Tickets for ABBA Voyage go on sale Sept. 7.

ABBA Release Two New Songs From Upcoming ‘Voyage’ Album and Show

ABBA have returned after decades of inactivity with a new album and a futuristic virtual London concert residency, both named Voyage .

The Swedish pop stars unveiled two new songs and confirmed the Nov. 5 release of Voyage , their first studio album since 1981's The Visitors . You can hear "I Still Have Faith in You" and "Don't Shut Me Down" below.

ABBA also announced the May 2022 launch of the Voyage virtual concert residency in London, which will feature motion-captured, de-aged digital avatars of the four original band members performing alongside a live band at the state-of-the-art ABBA Arena, which is currently being custom built for the shows.

“We simply call it 'Voyage' and we’re truly sailing in uncharted waters," keyboardist and songwriter Benny Anderson explains in a news release. "With the help of our younger selves, we travel into the future. It’s not easy to explain but then it hasn’t been done before. When you come to the arena you will have the four of us together with an absolutely glorious 10-piece band. And even if not in the flesh, we will be right there, thanks to the work of the creative team and ILM.”

Early registration for tickets to Voyage begins at 6PM tonight at ABBAVoyage.com

The announcement follows a succession of vague previews of the project, including the launch of a new website and a social media poster featuring four planets. The ambiguous teasers refueled speculation about a long-awaited hologram tour, originally announced in 2016, featuring the band members depicted as their younger selves.

ABBA also recently began advertising newly remastered music videos and a series of YouTube shorts, leading to fan chatter about possible reissues and/or unheard music.

Hear ABBA Perform 'I Still Have Faith In You'

The group announced plans to release a pair of new songs, including “I Still Have Faith in You,” in 2018 after recording sessions stemming from their work on the avatar tour. "We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio,” they wrote in a statement at the time. “So we did. And it was like time had stood still and we had only been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience! It resulted in two new songs.”

Though David Crosby is famously not a fan , ABBA have inspired numerous rock artists over the years, including Motorhead ’s Lemmy Kilmister and Foo Fighters ’ Dave Grohl . They landed nine Top 20 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1972 and 1983, including the chart-topping smash “Dancing Queen.”

ABBA

ABBA , one of the most successful music groups of all time, has announced its return nearly 40 years with a new studio album — hear two songs from it here — and a new concert that will see singers Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad and instrumentalists/songwriters Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus performing digitally via avatars with a live 10-piece band in a purpose-built arena in London, beginning on May 27, 2022.

The “Voyage” album will be released worldwide on November 5 via Universal Music Group’s Capitol label. The two newly released songs, “I Still Have Faith in You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down,” were recorded by the group at Andersson’s Riksmixningsverket studio in Stockholm and will both feature in the concert. The songs are the first new material from ABBA since the release of the “Under Attack” single in December of 1982, although the members, now all in their 70s, have released several solo projects.

“ABBA Voyage” will open on May 27 the ABBA Arena, a state-of-the-art 3,000 capacity arena located at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. Pre-registration for tickets opens at 6pm Thursday (Sept. 2) on abbavoyage.com with tickets on general sale from Sept. 7.

The announcement follows three-and-a-half years of tantalizing statements from Ulvaeus and Andersson about new music — first two songs, then six, along with some form of virtual performance — being on the way. The pair said in 2019 that the music would be delayed while preparations for the concert were completed, and finally a cryptic message about “ABBA Voyage” was posted on social media last week.

In a lengthy statement released Thursday, the group said:

“It’s been a while since we made music together. Almost 40 years, actually. We took a break in the spring of 1982 and now we’ve decided it’s time to end it. They say it’s foolhardy to wait more than 40 years between albums, so we’ve recorded a follow-up to [1981’s] ‘The Visitors.’ To tell the truth, the main inspiration to record again comes from our involvement in creating the strangest and most spectacular concert you could ever dream of. We’re going to be able to sit back in an audience and watch our digital selves perform our songs on a stage in a custom-built arena in London next spring. Weird and wonderful!

“To all of you who patiently have followed us in some way or another these past decades: Thank you for waiting — it’s time for a new journey to begin.

“We simply call it ‘Voyage’ and we’re truly sailing in uncharted waters. With the help of our younger selves, we travel into the future. It’s not easy to explain but then it hasn’t been done before.”

Andersson said, “It’s hard to say what’s been the most joyful thing for me (Benny) with this project, if it’s the involvement in creating the concert together with everyone or being back in the studio together again after 40 years. I think hearing Frida and Agnetha singing again is hard to beat. When you come to the arena you will have the four of us together with an absolutely glorious 10-piece band. And even if not in the flesh, we will be right there, thanks to the work of the creative team and ILM.”

Lyngstad said: “Those first sessions back in 2018 were such fun and when Benny called and asked if I’d (Anni-Frid) consider singing some more I jumped at it! And what songs!! My respect and love go out to these exceptionally talented, truly genius songwriters! Such joy it was to work with the group again. I am so happy with what we have made, and I dearly hope our fans feel the same.”

Fältskog said: “When we got back together in the studio I (Agnetha) had no idea what to expect… But Benny’s recording studio is such a friendly and  safe environment, and before I knew it I was really enjoying myself! I can hardly believe that finally, the moment has come to share this with the world!”

Ulvaeus said: “They’re such amazing singers, those two, I (Björn) was completely floored by the way they delivered those songs. They’re true musicians; totally unimpressed by pop star glamour but still having a great time being creative in a recording studio. The “Voyage” project has injected new life into us in more ways than one.”

“So, again, thanks for waiting! We hope to see you in the ‘ABBA Arena’ and yes — see — because we have infused a good deal of our souls into those avatars. It’s not an exaggeration to say that we’re back.”

ABBA is one of the most popular musical artists in history, having sold hundreds of millions of albums worldwide since its formation in Sweden 1972. The group’s simple-sounding but highly sophisticated songs have endured since the group, consisting of two married couples, split amid the breakup of the two couples in 1982. They set a template for pop music that has risen to prominence in recent years, exemplified by the work of countrymen Max Martin (who has worked with everyone from Britney Spears to Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake over the past two decades) on the commercial side and Robyn on the innovative side.

While songwriters Andersson and Ulvaeus continued to work together (including a musical, “Chess,” with lyricist Tim Rice in 1984), the four members did not appear together publicly onstage again until 2016.

Producers Svana Gisla and Ludvig Andersson said, “The magic of ABBA and the herculean efforts of this whole magnificent team reaches a long awaited milestone today.  To be able to finally share this endeavour with the world is a proud moment for us and we can’t wait to welcome you to our arena in East London, a place where we are so happy to be.”

Universal Music Group chairman/CEO Lucian Grainge, said, “From the very beginning of my career, and having had the privilege to work with them directly for many years since, it’s been a tremendous joy to be surrounded by ABBA and their music. Their boundless creativity and timeless melodies make us want to partner with them on everything they do, because we know it will be simply great.”

After 40 years, ABBA is back with new music — and they’re performing as avatars

Nearly 40 years after breaking up, the band that gave us hits like ‘dancing queen’ and ‘take a chance on me’ has reunited in full force.

Photo of the ABBA fan singalong and new song release event in Central Park.

By Lottie Elizabeth Johnson

Although they broke up in 1982, ABBA didn’t exactly disappear.

In fact, the Swedish band’s popularity resurged in the 1990s, largely thanks to the musical “Mamma Mia!” — which led to the 2008 film starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan — and the ABBA-heavy soundtracks of films like “Muriel’s Wedding” and “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.”

“There’s been more ABBA in the world the last 20 years than the first 20 years,” ABBA member Benny Andersson told CBS News . “It’s kind of weird! And I’m happy, and grateful.”

Now, nearly 40 years after breaking up, the band that gave us hits like “Dancing Queen” and “Take a Chance on Me” has reunited in full force, releasing a new album and producing a one-of-a-kind concert that features the band members as “ABBAtars” — digital versions of their 1979 selves, The New York Times reported.

When does the new ABBA album come out?

“Voyage,” ABBA’s ninth album that is the follow-up to 1981’s “The Visitors,” comes out midnight, local time, on Nov. 5, according to ABBA’s official Facebook page.

The album features 10 new songs, including “ I Still Have Faith in You, ” which represents the theme of the band getting back together, CBS News reported. The music video for that track has garnered 26 million views on YouTube since September.

“We’re just going to do the songs, the best songs we can right now,” ABBA lyricist Bjorn Ulvaeus told The Guardian of his songwriting process. “That meant writing lyrics I could get some of my thoughts of these past 40 years into, and add some kind of depth that, hopefully, comes with age and that makes it different from the lyrics I wrote 40 years ago.”

ABBA began recording the album in 2018, and doesn’t have plans to release any more music after this — even though there were two unfinished songs that didn’t make it onto the album, The Guardian reported.

“This is it,” Andersson said. “It’s got to be, you know.”

Other currently available tracks from the album include:

  • “ Don’t Shut Me Down”

  • “ Just a Notion ”

What is ABBA’s new virtual reality concert?

In addition to releasing a new album, ABBA is also launching a one-of-a-kind virtual reality concert next year.

The idea for the show began five years ago, and involves the construction of a 3,000 seat arena in London, a 10-piece live band and the George Lucas-founded visual effects company Industrial Light & Magic to create the “Abbatars,” according to The New York Times .

To bring the production to life, ABBA took part in a five-week motion capture recording session with 160 cameras. The band members wore tight suits covered in sensors to capture every movement, CBS News reported.

A de-aging editing process was then applied to the footage to create the 1979 digital avatars.

“You have to realize that we are confronted by our younger selves all the time on television, in pictures and all of that,” Ulvaeus told The Guardian . “Everyone asks us if it must have been very weird, but for me, I don’t think so. It’s completely natural. Everyone should have their own avatar.”

The virtual reality concert begins on May 27, 2022, and takes place at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, according to Forbes .

The album and tickets for the concert can be purchased through ABBA’s website . The high demand for both “Voyage” and the concert previously caused ABBA’s website to crash,  The Guardian reported.

“It’s cool they have been making such a big impact in music history,”’ Katja Nord, a member of the Swedish ABBA tribute band Waterloo, previously told the Deseret News . “Wherever we come in the world, if (people) don’t know what ABBA is, if they don’t know what Sweden is, they always know what ‘Dancing Queen’ is.″

“ABBA fever will never stop,” added Victoria Norback, a member of the ABBA tribute band Arrival.

Will ABBA add more songs to their ABBA Voyage show?

There have been whisperings among the fandom that the group may have recorded visuals for additional songs not featured in the show's current setlist, which have now been confirmed by Benny's son and show director Ludvig Andersson.

What has director Ludvig Andersson said about the ABBA Voyage setlist shake-up?

Speaking to Retro Pop Magazine, he teased: "We did more songs than we knew we were going to use. So there is more material.

"If this keeps running and people keep wanting to come and see it, we are intending to change a song out or update the show, because that’s also fun to do."

Chopin Voyage

Yulianna Avdeeva

Exclusively Available at NativeDSD in Stereo DSD 512, DSD 256, DSD 128, DSD 64 & WAV 384k from the PCM 384k Edit Master Source

Chopin Voyage marks pianist Yulianna Avdeeva ‘s Triumphant Return to Chopin. Fourteen years after her victory at the XVI International Chopin Piano Competition, Steinway Artist Yulianna Avdeeva documents her journey with the music of Frédéric Chopin.

Voyage focuses on his late works, all composed while surrounded by nature. Avdeeva has recorded them at the rustic Tippet Rise Art Center in Montana , against the serene backdrop of the Beartooth Mountains.

A pianist of fiery temperament and virtuosity, Avdeeva plays with power, conviction, and sensibility, having won over audiences all over the world. She returns to Pentatone after her acclaimed debut with the album Resilience , also available at NativeDSD.

She says “For as long as I’ve been playing the piano, the music of Chopin has been a constant source of inspiration and enlightenment. Particularly the music from his later years, which this recording documents; it always reveals something new. The subtle nuances, which you only begin to perceive over time, whether you’re performing the music or listening attentively, capture something indefinable about the essence of our shared humanity.”

Yulianna Avdeeva, Pianist

Rauw Alejandro Announces New Album Cosa Nuestra , Shares Video for New Song “Pasaporte”: Watch

Rauw Alejandro in “Pasaporte”

Rauw Alejandro has officially announced that his new album, Cosa Nuestra , is out November 15. He’s also released a new single, “ Pasaporte ,” featuring fellow Puerto Rican artist Mr. NaisGai. Watch the song’s video below.

Alejandro produced “Pasaporte” with Mr. NaisGai and SG Lewis. The track follows Alejandro’s recent singles “ Déjame Entrar ” and “ Touching the Sky .” He performed both of those songs at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards .

In a recent interview with Billboard , Alejandro discussed how his new album’s title was inspired by Willie Colón and Héctor Lavoe’s 1969 salsa classic Cosa Nuestra . “Salsa is not my essence, but it’s something that’s in my blood and in my culture, and it’s something I love,” Alejandro said. “I come from urban music, but I can do other genres. The Colón-Lavoe Cosa Nuestra had the elegance and the musicality and the instruments, which you will hear on this album. It’s the first time I use my band and live music on almost an entire project. I usually write with my keyboard and my computer, but on this project I’m going to the roots.”

Cosa Nuestra is Rauw Alejandro’s fifth studio album. He shared his fourth album, Playa Saturno , in July 2023.
