Visiting the Apple Park and Apple Campus

I’m an Apple fan, if you didn’t already figure that out.  So, while in the Bay Area, visiting the Apple Park and Apple Campus was a goal of mine, even if that meant just taking a quick look around outside.  

Getting to Apple Park

After enjoying our breakfast at Tartine Manufactory, we jumped back into our Silvercar and headed out Apple Park.  To get to Palo Alto, we took the 101, the 85, and, finally, Interstate 280.  Once on the surface streets, you’ll need to make your way to North Tantau Ave, and from there, you can drive right into the Apple Park Visitor Center.  Though there’s an above-ground parking lot, you’ll most likely end up in the underground structure as we did.  Parking, though, is free.  

The Visitor Center

The Apple Park Visitor Center is what you’d expect; a glorified Apple Store with a few unique products, an AR tour, a cafe, and an observation deck. It’s an interesting place to visit filled with passionate staff, but if you’re hoping to see something unique (other than the architecture and the AR tour), then you’re out of luck. But, anyway, take a look at some of the photos I took while we were there.

Visiting Apple Campus

Once we finished looking around at the Apple Park Visitor Center, we jumped back into our Silvercar and headed to Apple Campus. The original campus isn’t far from the newer Apple Park, being just 2.5 miles away on One Infinite Loop.

Things are a little less organized at Apple Campus than at Apple Park. Sings are a bit lacking, so we needed to look around to figure out where to park. For what it’s worth, the visitor parking appears to be in the open lot immediately to the right when you drive in.

Once you park, you’ll find an Apple Store right across from the parking lot. This store has a few Campus-exclusive items, though it’s a lot smaller (and emptier) than Apple Campus. Of course, you can walk around and take a look at the exterior of the building too.

Visiting the Apple Park and Apple Campus, Final Thoughts

Honestly, there isn’t a whole lot to see at Apple Park or Apple Campus. As a result, this is a stop to make only if you’re a serious Apple fan or want to appreciate the unique architecture of the Apple Park Visitor Center. Seriously, you’d get a better view of Apple Park by walking around it or flying your drone over it. Too bad I couldn’t find a suitable place to launch my drone since we were pressed for time.

Apple Confirms iPhone Launch Details

Apple has confirmed its next event. Glowtime will take place on Monday, September 9th, and given Apple’s love for a regular release schedule on its smartphones, it will see the official launch of the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. Naturally, the image and animation of the invite has kicked off a serious round of Kremlinology to decide what’s going to be the big news. It’s probably AI:

"The colors in this year’s animation are likely to refer at least in part to what the iPhone 16 series will look like. Blue, yellow, white, pink and black are all evident and that corresponds to what some reports have said the iPhones will look like. If more details appear, we’ll be covering them."

Secret service puts $2.5 million bounty on most wanted hacker’s head, apple iphone 16 and iphone 16 plus: everything we know so far, final iphone 16 pro design leaks.

As the iPhone 16 Pro launch approaches, many will be happy to see the increased specs on the camera. While the adoption of the x5 telephoto zoom lens into the smaller iPhone 16 Pro will be welcome (last year, it was an iPhone 15 Pro Max exclusive), there’s a bigger change that will impact your photographs. Apple is bringing a larger sensor to one of the key cameras:

“...the 5x zoom equivalent on the telephoto will be on both sizes of Pro (it’s currently an iPhone 15 Pro Max exclusive, for space reasons, I’m told). The main camera will remain the same as it is on the current Pro models, with 48-megapixel resolution.

The most striking news is the arrival of a second 48-megapixel sensor. The ultra wide camera on the Pro and Pro Max will switch to this and offer the same capability as the main camera, that is, the ability to shoot at full resolution as well as combining adjacent pixel sites to create better 12-megapixel images.

Preparing For A New iPad Mini

Could an iPad Mini show up next week? Apple typically runs its stock down on older products that are about to be replaced. Many are looking at the dwindling supplies of Apple’s entry-level tablet and are hoping for the second foot to fall on Monday, especially as it has been three years since the last iPad Mini was revealed:

"Apple has been working on a seventh-generation version of the iPad mini , and rumors have suggested that it could come out this year. The next iPad mini is expected to include an A17 Pro or better chip to support Apple Intelligence, along with updated front and rear cameras. Updates that Apple has been making across its product lineup could also be included, such as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3."

Four New MacBooks

Four new Mac models have been picked up in developer logs. While their consumer names aren’t out there, we do have the reporting numbers (“16,1,” “16,2,” “16,3,” and “16,10.”). Previous reporting numbers 14,10 and 15,10 were subsequently identified as the MacBook Pro models. We likely have a base MacBook Air 13, an uprated Air 13-inch, and a similarly specced Air 15-inch:

"The upcoming models are expected to feature base-level versions of the M4 chip. Three of these models will have 10-core CPUs and GPUs, while one lower-end version will include an 8-core CPU and GPU. The 10-core CPUs share the same specifications as the M4 processor found in the iPad Pro, which has four high-performance cores and six efficiency cores."

Snapchat Arrives On iPad

Amazingly, Snapchat has not released a dedicated client for the popular service specifically focused on the iPadOS platform. That changed this week, as users of Apple’s tablet can now unleash the full power of their devices:

"Snapchat's latest update allows the app to run natively on iPad , utilizing the device's full screen for the first time. Until now, iPad users who wanted to use Snapchat had to run the iPhone version of the app, which was not optimized for the larger display, leaving it to run at a lower resolution with large surrounding black borders like other unoptimized apps. "

And Finally

Perhaps belief doesn't just happen because you have the viewing figures and critical acclaim. Still, when the various contracts and options that need to be triggered for a fourth season of Ted Lasso are triggered, you have to think the official green light is not that far behind.

"Warner Bros. Television has picked up the options on original cast members Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift. It’s believed that Jason Sudeikis is involved in the revival in some capacity as an executive producer. Warner Bros. TV declined to comment."

Transfer a copy of your Apple Music playlists to another service

From Apple's Data and Privacy page, you can request to transfer the playlists that you’ve made in Apple Music to YouTube Music.

Transfer playlists from Apple Music

When you transfer playlists to YouTube Music, they aren’t deleted from Apple Music.

The transfer process typically takes a few minutes, although it might take up to several hours depending on the number of playlists that you’re transferring.

This service is available to Apple account holders where Apple Music is available . It isn’t available for child accounts or Managed Apple ID accounts.

Before you transfer

You need an active Apple Music or iTunes Match subscription

You need an active YouTube Music account

Join Apple Music

What you can transfer

Only the playlists that you've created (including collaborative playlists that you own) are transferred

Music files aren't transferred

Non-collaborative shared playlists and curated playlists aren't transferred

Folders in which you've organized your Apple Music playlists aren't transferred

Playlists can include only songs available on YouTube Music. If your playlists contains other audio files — such as podcasts, audio books, or user-uploaded audio files — they won't be transferred.

How to transfer your Apple Music playlists to YouTube Music

Go to Apple's Data and Privacy page , then sign in to your Apple ID account.

Select “Transfer a copy of your data.”

Follow the onscreen instructions to complete your transfer request. To start the transfer, you’ll need to sign in to your YouTube Music account.

When you start a transfer, Apple sends email notifications to the email addresses associated with your Apple ID account.

You can check the status of or cancel your transfer on Apple's Data and Privacy page .

When your transfer is complete

You receive a confirmation email from Apple that the transfer is complete.

Your playlists appear in the Library tab in YouTube Music.

If a song is missing from a playlist, it might not be available in YouTube Music.

If you update a playlist after it has transferred, it won't update in the other service.

If you cancel your transfer, playlists that have already transferred remain in YouTube Music.

With the free app, fans can follow games, leagues, conferences, and teams, and can soon receive real-time updates on iPhone and Apple Watch Lock Screens with Live Activities

Apple Sports — the free app for iPhone that gives sports fans access to real-time scores, stats, and more — today introduced a new way for fans to stay up to date with the NFL and college football seasons.

New updates for NFL and college football games include enhancements to play-by-play, offering quick access to scoring drives presented alongside the view of every game play. Additionally, a new dynamic drive tracker lets fans visualize where the ball is on the field at any time. As with other leagues in Apple Sports, fans can follow their favorite teams to ensure those games are just a tap away. For college football, fans can now follow the top 25, updated weekly, in addition to any of their favorite teams and conferences. Every game will also feature real-time scores, stats, and live betting odds, similar to all other leagues in the app. 1

With iOS 18 and watchOS 11, the Apple Sports app will offer Live Activities for all teams and leagues available in the app for the first time ever, delivering live scores and play-by-play at a quick glance to a user’s iPhone and Apple Watch Lock Screens. 2

Coming in an app update later this year, Apple Sports will also introduce a new drop-down navigation for the main scorecard views, making it even faster to switch between My Leagues, My Teams, and users’ feeds for favorited leagues. A new enhanced search makes it easier to view matches for leagues fans do not currently follow.

Apple Sports delivers scores, updates, betting data, and more all season long for the following leagues:

Additional leagues will become available on Apple Sports over time, including Champions League and Europa League, beginning with the league phase in September.

Apple Sports gives fans a simple and fast way to stay up to speed on the teams and leagues they love. Designed for speed and simplicity, the app’s personalized experience puts users’ favorite leagues and teams front and center, featuring an easy-to-use interface designed by Apple. Users can customize their scoreboards on Apple Sports by following their favorite teams, tournaments, and leagues. Fans can easily navigate between scores and upcoming games, explore play-by-play information and lineup details, and tap to go to the Apple TV app to watch live games from Apple and connected streaming apps. 3 Apple Sports will also seamlessly sync with favorites selected within the My Sports experience, including in the Apple TV app and Apple News. Apple Sports is available to download in the App Store in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada.

• Users have the option to turn off live betting odds in settings at any time.
• To get Live Activities, fans must be on iOS 18 and watchOS 11 or later. Live Activities will no longer be available in the Apple TV app with iOS 18.
• A subscription is required for some services.

Oasis 2025 reunion tour tickets go on sale today

Liam and Noel Gallagher will play a series of gigs next summer.

Oasis are officially getting back together after 15 years – and tickets for their reunion tour go on sale today. Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher appear to have put aside their differences, as the iconic Manchester band announced a series of live dates for summer 2025 earlier this week.

The Britpop group will hit stops across the UK and Ireland, including multiple nights at Manchester’s Heaton Park, London's Wembley Stadium and Dublin's Croke Park, as part of OASIS LIVE 25, and they will tour outside Europe next year.

Tickets are set to go on sale this Saturday (August 31) at 9am for the UK dates and 8am for the Ireland dates – and they will be available here on the day. A pre-sale will open on Friday (August 30), though the ballot for that has now closed.

Speaking on the dates, Oasis released a statement saying: "The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised."

There was apparently "no great revelatory moment that has ignited the reunion" but "just the gradual realisation that the time is right".

The group were one of the biggest Britpop acts of the '90s, releasing classic albums including Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story) Morning Glory?

The reunion announcement was made 30 years to the week of Definitely Maybe 's release, and next year marks the 30th anniversary of ( What's the Story) Morning Glory 's debut.

Oasis split in 2009 when Noel left the band ahead of a gig in Paris. The star said in a statement at the time: "People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."

The brothers have since embarked on respective successful solo careers, though rumours surfaced in recent days that an Oasis reunion could be on the cards.

Both brothers posted animated cards on their social media profiles over the weekend teasing today's (August 27) announcement date and time, fuelling speculation even further.

Liam also teased that the band were reforming in a series of posts on X/Twitter, including one which read : "I never did like that word FORMER."

What Is This TV Show Doing in My Film Festival?

Like a comedian with an Ozempic prescription or your favorite online recapper, all the fanciest film festivals are trying to get into the TV business. It’s been happening since at least 2017, when Cannes screened two episodes of Twin Peaks: The Return , but ever since the pandemic blurred the lines between film and television, the practice has exploded. Last year, Cannes saw the controversial debut of The Idol , while TIFF played a supersize episode of Lulu Wang’s Expats and the New York Film Festival premiered the first three installments of Showtime’s The Curse . If you don’t screen at least one TV episode by a director in the A24 family, are you even a real festival?

But no film festival has embraced television as much as Venice has this year: The official slate includes not one, not two, but four TV projects helmed by acclaimed directors. From Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón comes Disclaimer , an adaptation of Renée Knight’s 2015 novel that will hit AppleTV+ in October. Next to screen is Families Like Ours , a Danish climate-change survival epic from Another Round ’s Thomas Vinterberg. Then comes The New Years , a decade-spanning romance from Spanish director Rodrigo Sorogoyen, and finally Joe Wright’s M. Son of the Century , a miniseries about the rise of Benito Mussolini airing on British TV next year. And these are not lone episodes — each series is screening in full.

For these projects, the appeal of launching at a place like Venice is obvious. They get an added jolt of prestige and a buzzy red-carpet premiere that help them stand out among the thousands of series hitting streaming each month. The festivals benefit too, getting another starry photo opportunity and the chance to maintain their relationships with an auteur class that’s increasingly comfortable with the smaller screen. The only unhappy party in this arrangement is the journalists on the ground, who prefer simply to skip these titles — if they can. However, this arrangement does come with a few side effects. On a minor note, the bevy of TV projects throws into stark relief the relative lack of Netflix at Venice. Two years after opening the festival with Noah Baumbach’s White Noise , the streamer didn’t have a single film in competition until acquiring Pablo Larraín’s Maria on the eve of its Lido premiere. It also means that, quite by accident, Venice and its fellow festivals have waded into one of the most contentious issues in modern criticism: whether a season of TV should aspire to feel like “ a ten-hour movie ” or something else. You can lay blame at Cannes for this, too. Had those French cinephiles not chosen to premiere Twin Peaks: The Return , perhaps their compatriots at Cahiers du Cinéma wouldn’t have been emboldened to name the project the best film of the 2010s , setting off a debate that rages to this day.

One reason critics get upset about the “ten-hour movie” is that, on most occasions, it is a lie. You cannot shoot a TV show like a ten-hour movie because of the simple fact that TV shows shoot much faster, and more cheaply, than movies. Most fascinating about Disclaimer , the first of these series to play the Lido, is that it illustrates the difficulties inherent in the ten-hour-movie approach. This is the rare occasion when the talking point is true: This limited series really was shot as if it were a six-hour movie.

I’m sure Venice would have loved to advertise Disclaimer as Cuarón’s first-ever TV series, but that’s not what it is — he co-created the ill-fated NBC show Believe in 2014. Still, as his first effort since Roma, six years ago, it demands attention. Cate Blanchett plays Catherine Ravenscroft, a British documentarian who’s essentially a more benevolent Lydia Tár. Her life is upended one day when she receives a manuscript apparently based on a secret she has kept for 20 years. Unbeknownst to her, it was sent by Stephen Brigstocke (Kevin Kline), a lonely widower who blames Catherine for the death of his son, Jonathan (played by Louis Partridge in sequences that may be flashbacks or may be dramatizations of scenes from the manuscript).

Like a lot of contemporary television, Disclaimer feels extremely well pedigreed while never really matching the sum of its parts. (Even the people who are not supposed to be characters in a manuscript have trouble behaving as real humans.) Unlike a lot of contemporary television, it looks fantastic, full of bravura long takes and deep-focus shots that would make Orson Welles blush. As the Mexican auteur revealed at the show’s official press conference, that’s because he shot the seven episodes the same way he shoots his movies.

“I don’t know how to direct TV,” Cuarón said. “We approached the whole thing as a film.” While many showrunners might make that claim as a boast, Cuarón called it a “miscalculation.” Disclaimer shot for over 200 days with two cinematographers. “To shoot a film takes long, and this was like seven films,” he added. “I feel for the actors because they were stuck in those characters for way too long.” With reshoots taken into account, production lasted almost a year.

A tale of heroic endurance, overstretched ambition, and vast expense? Maybe this thing deserves to be called a movie after all.
