"Our trip to Icacos Island was absolutely phenomenal thanks to Hecmar, Cristian and Captain Dante. They made sure we were taken care in every way. The snorkeling was alot of fun and the water at Icacos is crystal clear with a white sandy beach. Hands down the best part of our trip to Puerto Rico!!"

"This was a great fun experience. The staff and tour guides were very professional, insightful, accommodating. Hecmar was the best!!!! Loved her and all the full knowledge she gave about the different sea life, reefs, and the hike. I had a blast, and the group that I took loved it. Definitely would recommend it!!"

"Me and my family had the wonderful experience of snorkeling with Innovations Tours on 7/23/19. Our tour guides Christian and Sandra could've been more excellent. They were both fun, engaging, patient and informative. My two children ages 6 and 10, who have never experienced snorkeling had the best time ever. The island Icacos was absolutely beautiful. The food and drinks provided were perfect. It was worth the cost. I highly recommend them."

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY

The staff was very friendly. The experience was enjoyable for the whole family. They worked with the children on board to help teach them about sailing and snorkeling.

We have done many snorkeling tour in various places, this tour tops our list. Most “sailing” tours only go to the snorkeling site with the engine running. This tour sailed to and from the beach. We snorkeled at two places and had a two-hour stay on a great beach. Lunch was great and we had plenty to enjoy. I highly recommend Fun Cat Catamaran if you are in Puerto Rico.

We have had a great trip to Puerto Rico and by far, the best thing we’ve done is spent a day on the Fun Cat Catamaran with Capt. Jim and his crew. They were all outstanding!!! The ship was beautiful. The equipment was top notch. The lunch buffet, snacks, and drinks were all delicious. The Pina Coladas were awesome!!! And all of the places we stopped were amazing. Do this tour – you will not be sorry!!!

Fajardo Snorkeling Excursions

Locals’ favorite beaches & islands.

Located on the east coast of the island, Fajardo is right between San Juan and El Yunque Rainforest, so it’s a great place to stay if you’re planning to do many activities around the island on your Puerto Rico vacation. Beyond its convenient location, Fajardo offers many small keys right off the coast with incredible snorkeling. One of the most popular ways to explore is by booking a catamaran snorkeling tour or chartering a boat and visiting several keys in one day. If you’d rather stay on the mainland, there’s great snorkeling to be had at Fajardo’s beaches as well.

Fajardo Snorkeling Beaches & Keys

Set sail to various reefs and islands where you’ll spot tropical fish, sea turtles, and other marine creatures. With so many places to explore, you could spend your whole vacation beach and island-hopping. Most of the choice snorkeling spots are part of La Cordillera Nature Reserve, a chain of about 10 islands that can be reached easily by boat.

Icacos Island

Located just off the coast of Fajardo, Icacos is an uninhabited island with sparkling sand, vibrant, clear waters, and an abundance of marine life, making it the perfect place to go snorkeling or scuba diving. Since it can only be reached by boat, it’s a favorite destination for catamaran snorkeling tours from Fajardo. Enjoy refreshments and gorgeous island views on the sailing trip to the island; then gear up to dive in and explore the impressive coral reef formations. Beyond snorkeling, the beaches of Icacos Island are a wonderful place to spot iguanas and gulls and relax with a drink in hand.

Palomino Island

This is one of the largest islands off the coast of Fajardo, with the eastern side accessible to guests of El Conquistador Resort. You can rent a mini speed boat equipped with snorkeling gear and a cooler with snacks and refreshments and head over to snorkel the reef that surrounds that portion of the island. Although the island can get windy, the beach is somewhat sheltered, making for calm snorkeling conditions. Other popular keys for snorkeling in Fajardo are Cayo Lobos, Cayo Ratones, and Cayo Diablo.

Fajardo Mainland Beaches

For snorkeling closer to your Fajardo hotel or rental, head to the public beach, Playa Seven Seas. This sheltered strip of shoreline can get crowded on the weekends, but it’s a great place to snorkel if you don’t want to take a full-day tour to one of the islands off the coast. El Convento Beach to the west is a nesting ground for sea turtles and home to many breathtaking reefs to explore.

Start planning your Fajardo snorkeling excursion today! Don’t forget to reserve your tours ahead of time, especially if you’re visiting during Puerto Rico’s busy season.

Experience the best of Fajardo, Puerto Rico

Since it’s a private tour I can customize the times and destinations. The closer islands we go to are Icacos, Lobos, Palomino, or Palominito. We also offer tours to Culebra, Culebrita, Luis Pena, and Vieques!

Icacos is gorgeous. Crystal clear water that is so many shades of turquoise with white sandy beaches. It’s where I go with my family when we have boat days.

Even if it’s raining on the mainland the little islands usually only get quick sprinkles and it passes. We still go on days like that. If it’s pouring all day of course we cancel and try to reschedule or give a refund. The same goes for the Rainforest. Even if it’s raining in one area of the rainforest there are other areas that are still perfect for adventuring. It’s big!

Coral, fish, dolphins, sea turtles

Yes! We have floatation devices and a very patient captain and crew who will assist you the whole way. You can even snorkel if you can’t swim! Lots of times we are able to anchor in water that is shallow enough to stand in and you can walk to the beach.

AMAZING PUERTO RICO BOAT TOUR EXPERIENCE ★★★★★

Absolutely amazing experience! The captain and his crew were fantastic. We looked for a while trying to find someone to book an excursion through, and we’re so glad we went with them. We would go back in a heartbeat! Thank you guys for the awesome time!

My group traveled to Puerto Rico & booked the private all inclusive boat tour to Icacos. I would recommend booking the private tour if you have a large group like myself. Tito and his crew were great! They were nice & very accommodating. They were on time and gave great directions to get to the dock. They gave us drinks, snacks, and lunch. I would 100% rebook with them the next time I’m in the area. No complaints!

The staff was excellent and the trip was everything we were hoping for... drinks, sun, snorkeling, and the most beautiful beach! I have been on many boat trips in the Caribbean and this was one of the best. Would definitely do it again!

My husband and I had an awesome private boat tour on the Tortuguita, their 28 foot power catamaran. The captain, who was also the owner, was very attentive. It was SO great being able to be on our own schedule, back right up to the beach, and go to his "secret spot." We came back from a walk on the beach to find an umbrella and our towels waiting for us, followed by refills of our drinks! It was fantastic!

If you do one thing while in Puerto Rico, book this trip to Icacos. Not a care in the world, unlimited piña coladas, rum punch, soft drinks and water with a yummy lunch provided. Gracias a Benji, Dwight, Alonso and Joey for being an amazing crew y por ayudar a esta viejita to get in and out of the catamaran. ¡WEPA!

This was a great tour! Emmanuel and the crew provide top notch customer service and the boat ride and snorkeling was a highlight of our trip.

We took this catamaran today to go to Icacos Island and do some snorkeling. It was an amazing experience!! The captain was excellent, very informative of the places we passed, and recommended places to visit. The crew was very polite, entertaining, helpful. Sandwiches were fresh and the drinks were included in the price paid. The island was amazing, the water such a beautiful turquoise color and deep blue when the ocean got deeper. I loved every minute of it!! Felt very safe and will do this again next time I come to PR. Thank you for a wonderful day!! And for recommending La Estación Restaurant, which was amazing too!!

We had an amazing time, since it was during the pandemic we didn't have the food buffet and was a bit disappointed to just get a bag lunch- it wasn't as good as when they have food laid out and they also didn't provide bread to feed to the fish so there was very little fish to see. I know it sounds like all negatives but it was literally due to the pandemic. Traveler overall is a great experience and I love relaxing and the team is great!

Great staff and service. We were staying in Candado and it was well worth the trip over to Fajardo, Puerto Rico. I recommend the afternoon trip because you get to have a relaxing afternoon and enjoy the the beautiful Puerto Rico sunsets. Great time!

Beautiful sunset. The crew actually took the picture and shared it with us.

Captain Gio, Alonso, and the entire crew were absolutely incredible! We had an amazing trip aboard the catamaran. The lunch was also delicious! We loved both stops at Icacos Island and Tortuga Reef. A must do when visiting Puerto Rico!!

I booked this excursion after a recommendation from an Uber driver-So glad I listened! My Airbnb was in Carolina so Fajardo is a 40 minute drive which is far compared to other local options. However it's worth the trip and allows you a chance to experience more of the island than if you stay local. Once you get to the pier, there is street parking that was very convenient. There is also a boat house with stalls and showers that make it convenient to change into and out of your swim gear. At first we thought that we wouldn't be able to go to both of the locations included in the tour but the weather cleared up and we were good to go. The staff was so great! Very friendly, fun, and knowledgeable. The lunch was sub buffet style-different meats, cheeses, and toppings with a few cold salad options. They also offer rum punch, water, and sodas once lunch begins. So if your the type to get a bit thirsty, bring a water bottle with you too. Definitely ensure you bring a hat, sunglasses, and tons of sunblock! You are out for hours in the sun. The excursion itself is amazing! Stunning ocean views, pristine beaches, water slide, great music! Do yourself a favor and book this excursion!

Boat views

For my anniversary with my bf, I booked the day trip sail to Icacos Island. It turned out to be the highlight of our vacation!! From the incredible views to the unlimited rum punch, we had such a memorable time. The boating crew and captain were more than hospitable and entertaining for our sail! We 10/10 recommend Traveler Catamaran if you want to see unforgettable views of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico :)

Took the Icacos Island tour with East Island Excursions. Loved every bit of the tour. Truly professional, friendly and helpful crew. The places we were taken to were exotic and I just loved it . My phone which had most of the pics and memories got drenched in the sea water and died and Levi one of the member of the crew member truly felt our anxiety took pictures for us and sent it later . Wonderful guy. I am not a swimmer but took the plunge with the help of Moises from the crew team . I would recommend East Island Excursions and Levi to anyone visiting Puerto Rico and taking the Island tours

Loved the Icacos Island tour with East Island Excursions

Loved the Icacos Island tour with East Island Excursions

Loved our visit to Icacos with East Island Excursions. Originally we had booked for Vieques, but due to weather, we could not go there. East Island was very prompt in calling us every day and giving us an update. In the end, they even offered to shift us to Icacos on priority and refunded the balance amount. Their boats are amazing and look luxurious. The staff is insanely friendly, offer great food and drinks and snorkeling tips. Had a lovely time with East Island. Will definitely try Vieques tour with them next time I am in San Juan.

Unforgettable Trip to Icacos

Unforgettable Trip to Icacos

This is my second time in two years traveling with East Island Excursions – and they really do a great job! You will NOT be disappointed. They are very easy to make reservations with and they call with reminders, The staff is extremely friendly, the boat clean and the overall experience is amazing. There are two stops – one at Icacos Island and another at another site where the coral is. You will see a bunch of beautiful things! And the water is amazingly crystal blue . You’ll arrive around 9am to check in, leave at 9:30am and be back at the dock around 3:30 pm. A great activity for all ages – my family thoroughly enjoyed. They serve you food and rum drinks too! Just an overall great time!

I was so glad we got to experience snorkeling like this when we were in Puerto Rico. East lsland excursions was a great company to book with. It was an all day adventure and they provide lunch and service unlimited alcoholic drinks. The crew on the boat was great very friendly and knowledge. Our captain was Ty and he did an amazing job informing us about the water, different sea animals and islands that we past. The gear that they provided was clean and looked new, the boat was kept clean as well. I definitely recommend booking a tour through them for a great experience just remember to bring your sunblock and keep reapplying because we got sun burnt.

This is by far the most fulfilling activity I did while in PR. This excursion handles everything you need from food, to drinks and location. First stop is snorkeling and the crew were helpful in explaining all safety concerns, for us and the environment. They served us an incredible lunch complete with pina coladas to refresh from the heat. The 2nd stop was a relaxing beach and they gave us ample time to really enjoy the water and take pictures. I would without a doubt book this trip again and can’t wait to visit 🙂

A must!!

Great experience! Crew was friendly and helpful. Communicated what we needed to know and expect very well, and consistently. Very professional but laid back enough to help everyone enjoy the experience. Overall experience was great.

Great boat tour and snorkeling. We went to the island of Culebra on the tour. Great staff and nice drinks! Definitely recommend the fast boat. Thanks to the skipper and the crew. You were great!

Captain & crew helpful and fun, brought us to some wonderful snorkeling spaces. Maybe 25 or so people total on boat, so a good size group but not overcrowded. Lots of fun!

Highly recommend this tour, wonderful service, food and attention. You must go to Flamenco beach and snorkel in Culebra they made our trip to Puerto Rico worth every penny.

My mom and I went on this trip and we loved it! Snorkel areas were amazing as well as playa flamenco. The crew is super cool, kind, responsible and friendly!

The crew was amazing and friendly. Couldn't ask for a better time out in Culebra. After a boat ride to the island we spent a couple hours snorkeling. Next up was a provided lunch on the boat and rum cocktails. Following that we went to Flamenco beach for a couple hours.

13 Best Tours & Excursions In Fajardo, Puerto Rico (2024)

  • Tours & Excursions

Fajardo is a popular vacation destination located on the north-east side of Puerto Rico.

There are many tours to experience here, such as the bioluminescent bay tour and guided rainforest tour.

I’ve been living in Puerto Rico for 14 years and frequently visit Fajardo for weekend getaways.

In this article, I will cover the 13 best tours & excursions in Fajardo, Puerto Rico:

1. Laguna Grande Bio Bay tour

Puerto Rico is home to three different bioluminescent bays.

Fajardo is lucky to have one of these bio bays: Laguna Grande Bioluminescent Bay .

image of a hand dipped in the lagoon

When you kayak through a bio bay, you will see millions of bright sparkles in the water. This is a once in a life time experience.

You’ll also learn about the local ecosystem during your guided tour.

Below is a video that shows a bioluminescent bay in Puerto Rico:

Learn more about Puerto Rico’s bio bays by reading our article Bioluminescent Bays Puerto Rico – All You Need To Know .

2. Guided Rainforest tour

El Yunque National Rainforest is the only rainforest in the United States National Parks system.

Although you can visit this rainforest independently, nothing beats a guided adventure tour to access trails and views you didn’t know you could explore.

image of a waterfall in El Yunque

From waterfalls to waterslides, swimming holes, and trails, a guided tour will help you see it all.

Learn more by reading our article El Yunque National Forest – All You Need To Know .

3. Icacos Beach

Icacos Beach is one of the top beaches in Puerto Rico.

image of Icacos Beach

It’s not a beach you can reach by car — you’ll have to get there on a water taxi or catamaran from the main island.

If you go on a catamaran, you’ll enjoy the trip with music, drinks, and lunch included on your trip.

Check out Cayo Icacos  in the following video:

T o book a tour, visit  East Island Excursions website.

For more beautiful beaches, read our article 30 Best Beaches In Puerto Rico .

4. Go snorkeling on a boat tour

Fajardo is home to some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world. You can see these reefs up close and personal with a snorkeling boat tour.

You’ll also get to see a variety of fish, turtles, and other marine life.

image showing snorkeling on a boat tour in Fajardo

Some snorkeling areas a boat tour will take you is Icacos and Palominos Island.

Learn more by reading our article 25 Best Snorkel Spots In Puerto Rico .

5. Rainforest & bio bay combo tour

Two tours are always better than one, especially from the same tour guide!

Fajardo is home to El Yunque Rainforest & Laguna Grande Bio Bay combo tour.

image showing rainforest & bio bay combo tour

This tour is great for spending the entire day in Fajardo, as you can explore two of the most popular activities in one day.

Check out Bespoke Lifestyle Management to book this tour.

6. Private tour to Culebra

Fajardo is located on the east coast of Puerto Rico and is in proximity to Culebra island .

Although you’ll need to go to Ceiba to take a ferry to visit Culebra, there are plenty of private catamaran sail tours that will pick you up in Fajardo and take you there.

9. Paddleboard Cabezas De San Juan Natural Reserve

Paddleboarding is always a fun water activity to take part in.

You can find a one-hour paddleboarding rental and paddle through the crystal clear waters of the Cabezas de San Juan in Fajardo.

Picture this, on a nice sunny day, paddling through the crystal water as you hear the sounds of the waves breaking on the shore and exploring new places boats can not explore.

It’s a piece of paradise just for you to enjoy.

10. Go scuba diving

Scuba diving is a popular and adventurous packing activity compared to snorkeling.

In Fajardo, you’ll be scuba diving the Cordillera Reef System. There are two tank scuba diving tours for you to explore the world beneath the waves for a longer period.

And no worries, you’ll be diving with certified professionals to ensure your safety is a top priority while creating memories you’ll never forget.

Below is a video on what it’s like to scuba dive in Fajardo:

Check out Dive Puerto Rico to book a tour.

11. Snorkel Icacos Island

Icacos Island is a fabulous island to spend the entire day in.

Besides enjoying the crystal clear waters on a lovely, isolated island in paradise, you’ll want to snorkel and explore the world beneath the seas!

image of a girl snorkeling in Icacos Island

Only some boats that offer trips to Icacos offer snorkeling equipment; make sure that you bring your gear or that you’re going to a boat that provides them.

Check out East Island PR to book a tour.

12. Mini boat excursion

Take the wheel, you’re the captain now!

A mini boat adventure allows you to be your very own captain and explore multi-stop excursions along the eastern coast of Puerto Rico.

You’ll be able to explore different beaches and Cordillera Cays that make up the nature reserve.

image of a mini boats

And no worries, you’ll be boating with a certified guide to ensure your safety and fun is a top priority.

Visit the Boats2Go website to book this tour.

13. Visit Isla Palomino

When people think of Fajardo, they’ll mostly think of Icacos Island.

Did you know Palomino Island is only 4.7km away from Icacos Island?

image of Palomino Island

If you’ve previously visited Icacos, it’s worth coming back to Fajardo and checking out the gorgeous island of Palomino.

If you haven’t visited either island, I recommend going on an island-hopping boat tour that will take you to both in one day!

This is an excellent idea if you’re staying in Puerto Rico for a short time. Mainly because most boats don’t go back and forth from the island to the main island.

Check out Palomino Island in the following video:

To book this tour, visit the Palomino Yacht Charter website.
