Tour Itinerary

Tour information, tour route map.

On this 4-day Isle of Skye tour from Edinburgh, we’ll call into the Highland village of Luss. Sitting on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond this conservation village belies its brutal past when the Vikings raided this area.

From the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park our Highland trip continues over Rannoch Moor to Glencoe, Scotland’s most famous glen. As the mountains close in it’s not difficult to imagine the sights and sounds of a shameful episode in Scottish history, the massacre of the MacDonalds by the Campbells in 1692.

Fort William lies in the shadow of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain. At this point we’ll travel west to the Glenfinnan Viaduct, now better known as the ‘Harry Potter bridge’. The Glenfinnan Monument at the head of stunning Loch Shiel has breathtaking views. This is also the spot where Bonnie Prince Charlie gathered his supporters for the 45 Jacobite rebellion.

Our journey takes us through Glens Garry and Shiel where we’ll get off the beaten track and over the Ratagan mountain pass where you’ll get stunning views over Loch Duich and the Five Sisters of Kintail before we cross the bridge to the Isle of Skye.

Glencoe - 3 Day Isle of Skye Tour from Glasgow

With two full days on the Isle of Skye your friendly driver-guide will ensure you enjoy the best of this stunning island. You’ll be enchanted by the natural wonders, wildlife, and culture of Scotland’s most famous isle.

One of Skye’s defining vistas is its mountain range the Black Cuillins. At nearby Glenbrittle you can trek to the bright blue waters of the Fairy Pools. These sparkling ponds offer magical photographs, and you can even swim in them if you’re brave enough!

The Trotternish is Skye’s most northerly peninsula and has some of the most dramatic landscapes in Scotland. We’ll stop at the Quiraing, a natural wonder created by a landslip. Kilt Rock is a basalt column 90 metres high that looks like our national dress! Capture stunning photos of Mealt waterfall and the Old Man of Storr, a rocky pinnacle created by a massive ancient landslide.

The Fairy Pools - Isle of Skye 3 Day Tour from Glasgow

It’s worth the drive to reach Neist Point, the most westerly point on the Isle of Skye. This is one of the best places on Skye to see whales, dolphins, porpoises, and basking sharks. Just stand there and you’ll feel like you’re teetering on the edge of the world.

We’ll visit Dunvegan Castle* the ancestral home of the Clan MacLeod. It has continuously been occupied by the same family for 800 years. Another magical location is the mystical Fairy Glen, a curious collection of little grassy mounds with small ponds in between.

Time permitting we’ll try and get a tasting at one of Skye’s distilleries for a dram of Scotch whisky. You’ll also have time to explore Skye’s largest town Portree, a busy port and cultural centre.

*Please note Dunvegan Castle is closed from 15th October 2023 – April 2024 (exact date to be confirmed). During this period we will offer passengers the option to visit Eilean Donan Castle on day 4, when possible.  We will be able to stop for a photo of Eilean Donan Castle from a nearby viewpoint when the castle is closed.

Skye Bridge - Isle of Skye 3 Day Tour from Glasgow

From the Isle of Skye, we cross back on to the mainland over the controversial Skye Bridge. Our next stop is to get some photos of the iconic Eilean Donan Castle. It’s easy to see why it adorns paintings, photographs, and calendars as it sits atop its own little island where three sea lochs meet surrounded by stunning highland scenery.

From here we continue to Fort Augustus at the southern tip of Loch Ness where we’ll have lunch. You can stroll along the Caledonian Canal, or you might fancy hunting for the legendary loch ness monster Nessie on a one-hour cruise on Loch Ness.

We’ll travel through the Cairngorms National Park and if we didn’t manage to visit one of Skye’s distilleries for a dram of Scotch whisky we’ll drop in for a dram on the mainland.

Sitting by the River Tay lies the lovely village of Dunkeld. You’ll get excellent views of Thomas Telford’s Dunkeld Bridge by taking a walk down by the river. Take a closer look at the ancient Cathedral that’s part picturesque ruin and part functioning church.

On our journey to Edinburgh, you’ll see the iconic Forth Bridge, a UNESCO world heritage site. The bridge still holds the record as the longest cantilever bridge on earth.

18/08/22 – Anna

For me the Tour was excelente in all aspects. The stops are correct: interesting and with Good timings. I had the Best experience and I think it was Thanks to Gary (our guide). He knew perfectly when to explain things and when to let us rest and process all the information. He always made clear what was the plan for the next days, so we knew what to expect. He was super organize with the timings, pick-ups, cruise reservation…. And top of all that he also was funny making us enjoy a great holidays. Thank you for the experience.

04/08/22 – Sharn

What an amazing  time we had!! From the minute Scott picked us up in Edinburgh until we unfortunately had to be dropped off again. The bus was spotlessly clean at all times Scott had a fabulous rapport with everyone on the bus, and made sure  he was understood by all passengers. We were given an itinerary everyday. He had good knowledge of the history of the area and his enthusiasm shone through. Our B and B in Broadford was delightful, our hosts, Yvonne and Rob were so welcoming. We would highly recommend you.

24 /07/22 – Marion

I am pleased to tell you that I had a marvellous experience. No complaints at all. Enjoyed the whole experience. The accommodation was excellent and the hosts friendly and helpful. Our driver, Stewart, was efficient, cheerful, chatty and supportive of our particular needs. I enjoyed the mixture of age in the group. Everyone was friendly. The itinerary was exciting and commentary good. Stewart was also good at changing plans as necessary according to weather etc.

09/06/22 – Jean and Catherine

My daughter and I had a wonderful tour. Our tour guide, John, lead us on an interesting and scenic tour.  We were given flexibility and even though I have some mobility issues I felt completely relaxed with our tour. The small group allowed John to give us an opportunity to experience Scottish culture as well as visiting the tourist destinations. We particularly enjoyed the Skye Weavers. The information John gave us on the bus along with the music made the drive more than just a drive. The weather on our trip was not very good but because of John and the fine people on the tour it didn’t dampen our spirits instead it added to our memories. This tour was a highlight of our visit to Scotland. Highly recommend this tour. Thank you tour guide John and Discover Scotland Tours.

May 2022 – Brenda

The tour exceeded my expectations. Although the tour itself , the timing the locations and the stops were all amazing, I must say our guide, Scott, is really what put the tour on the above expectations scale. He was awesome. Your vans are great, the place we stayed which you organized for us was outstanding. A sincere THANK you.

17/05/22 – Jitendra and Mina

We had a fantastic time on your tour.It was an experience that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Our host and driver, Scott, made the journey extra special for us with his cheerful and friendly nature – his enthusiasm rubbed off on all of us, making the whole group gel like one happy family. Alas it had to end after only 3 days!! We have highly recommended Discover Scotland Tour company to our friends and relatives.

11/05/22  – Joy and George

Thank you for your email. We had already decided that we were going to email you some feedback as we thoroughly enjoyed our trip. We have never taken any sort of group tour before. When we decided to visit Scotland I looked at what tours were departing from Glasgow and Edinburgh. Yours came up as an option along with a range of others. We chose your company as the tour itinerary was what we wanted, with the stay on Skye.( Some tours travel back to mainland Scotland each day, some do not include accommodation options ).  Jerry was a superb tour guide. He made sure everyone was comfortable , he knew exactly where to go for toilet stops, coffee, photo opportunities etc.  He gave us so much information about Scotland, the places we were visiting, etc. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He made the trip go very smoothly. We were able to sit back, relax , and enjoy the scenery. We have also been very impressed with your company and the quick efficient and friendly voices on the end of the phone when we have rung with queries. We have already had a number of friends enquiring as to who we toured with, as they have seen our photos on Facebook. We have no qualms about recommending you and hope that we can tour with you again next year, hopefully to Mull and Iona.

03/04/22 – Patrick & Nelly

The tour were absolutely fantastic. Kudos to Michael the driver/guide, who made the trip memorable with his knowledge of historical events and his sense of humor. He’s very accommodative and go easy with the group too. The trip was relaxing, no rush for time, made many stops to take pictures as well as covering all the itineraries that was given. Our 3 nights stay at Broadford Town was comfortable and cosy. Above all every morning we were served with good breakfast that was beyond our expectation. Appreciate DiscoverScotlandtours for the accommodation arrangement and tour itineraries that make it a memorable moments for us.

29/08/21 – Tayla & Nick

We had an absolute cracking time, we were very lucky and had some wonderfully warm weather, which allowed us to enjoy beautiful sites such as the fairy pools all the better. Our driver/guide John was helpful, funny, and extremely knowledgable of all the fascinating Scottish (and sometimes Australian!) history that was relevant to the places we were visiting, plus some great recommendations on where to eat. The accomodation that was booked for us was wonderful and moderately priced, and our host very accomodating and kind. Overall an amazing tour that we would recommend to everyone!

14/08/19 – Debbie & Eric

The tour was wonderful. Andy was a perfect tour guide: informative, personable, funny, polite, helpful, and a safe driver. We only have great things to say about him. When weather conditions forced a change of plans, he fully explained the situation, gave us options, and did a terrific job of showing us as much of Skye as possible. We loved visiting the croft when weather prevented us from taking the boat trip. I was thankful we chose the 4- day tour as it provided some flexibility with weather as we were on Skye for 2 days. We loved the itinerary and felt we saw the major sites and learned a lot about Scotland and its history and culture. We participated in all of the optional activities except for the Lochness boat trip. We will have many fond memories of our tour.

5 Best Isle of Skye Tours From Edinburgh to the Highlands

Welcome to the ultimate guide on the best Isle of Skye tours from Edinburgh, meticulously curated by me, Taylor, your Europe Travel Expert. Drawing from my extensive travels in Scotland and in-depth research, I’ve handpicked each tour for its itinerary, unique additions, and top-notch quality. Join me as we embark on a journey to discover the Isle of Skye, starting from the historic heart of Edinburgh.

The Isle of Skye is one of the most beautiful places in Scotland . It’s known for its charming villages, medieval castles, and dramatic landscapes that look like you plucked them right out of a photograph.

Located in the northwestern part of Scotland , the Isle of Skye is incredibly scenic, with many rugged cliffs, waterfalls, and sea views.

However, it is also quite remote, and transportation options are limited. While I’ve driven a car in Scotland and it is doable, unless you plan to rent a car, the best option for getting there is to take an Isle of Skye Tour from Edinburgh.

The Isle of Skye is around a 5-6 hour drive from Edinburgh, so it isn’t possible to do it as a day trip. Instead, most Isle of Skye Tours are 3-day tours so that you have time to fully experience this incredible area of Scotland.

I’ve traveled all over Scotland, and I can tell you, even though it’s a hike.. .you don’t want to miss the beauty that is Isle of Skye.

Your Full Edinburgh to Isle of Skye Tour Itinerary

Departing edinburgh to isle of skye.

We will be departing from the bustle of Edinburgh to start this classic tour.

Leaving Edinburgh, we will be travelling north west on the motorway (freeway) and will soon arrive at a quieter area as we reach the outskirts of Stirling.

First Stop – Callander and Refreshments

It’s then onto the picturesque town of Callander, situated on the banks of the River Teith in the heart of the Trossachs. We will have time here to stop for refreshments and facilities.

As we continue north, the glorious mountains and tranquil lochs will provide us with a dramatic backdrop on our journey to Glencoe, one of the highlights of our Edinburgh to Isle of Skye tour.

The Beauty of Glencoe

This is probably one of the most well known of Scotland’s glens with an important story to tell. This narrow valley is also where the bloody massacre of the Macdonalds took place in 1692.

Our guides will be able to enlighten you with tales from this part of the country and why it will never be forgotten.

We will have time to stop at the Glencoe National Nature Reserve Visitor Centre and enjoy some panoramic views whilst refuelling on some tasty food at the café.

Onward to Fort William and Ben Nevis, and Harry Potter Country

In the afternoon, we will travel further north west, passing by Fort William. During this section of the journey we should be able to catch sight of Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain.

From there we will be following the Road to the Isles, which will lead us on to the town of Mallaig.

On the way we will visit the Glenfinnan Viaduct where the Hogwarts Express train thundered over the bridge in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets film. It also features on subsequent Harry Potter films, The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Goblet of Fire.

Mallaig to Isle of Skye

As we arrive at Mallaig, we will get ready to take the ferry* leading us over the sea to Armadale on the Isle of Skye.

When we reach the Isle of Skye from Edinburgh, we will be travelling to the town of Portree and taking you on to your selected accommodation.

*Please note there’s a £10 supplement per person for ferry crossing. This is a seasonal ferry and subject to timetable variations. Alternative routes may be taken.

Exploring the Isle of Skye from Edinburgh

This is an entire day dedicated to exploring the Isle of Skye.

Our day begins with a scenic journey alongside the dramatic Trotternish Ridge* and includes stops at the Old Man of Storr and Kilt Rock.

After a walk at the Quiraing, amongst the unique and unusual rock architecture, we drive on to reach the magic of Fairy Glen. It’s a delightful miniature Highland landscape and legendary home of the ‘wee people’.

Next we drive to the most westerly point on Skye and walk to Neist Point lighthouse. From here we will have marvellous views over the ocean to the Outer Hebrides.

Our final stop of the day will be to visit and walk beside the crystal clear water of the magical Fairy Pools. You will have impressive views of the Black Cuillins from this area.

This is a beautiful spot to take some fantastic pictures to show your friends, or even dip your toes in the water if you’re brave enough.

We return to Portree in the early evening where you can select from one of the local dining options for food and refreshment before returning to your accommodation.

*On our Isle of Skye tour from Edinburgh, we will visit all of the areas listed, but not necessarily in this order, allowing for weather advantages on the day.

Isle of Skye from Edinburgh – Day Three

The Isle of Skye tour from Edinburgh is the perfect pace to maximise you experience

On day three, we will have a leisurely start to the day.

Once you are collected from your accommodation and ready for the road, we will resume our adventure with a fond farewell to the Isle of Skye as we cross the Skye bridge, taking us back over to the mainland.

In just a short while we will reach Eilean Donan Castle where we will stop and take some time to explore.

As one of Scotland’s most iconic castles, it’s definitely one to be visited and photographed. It’s simply gorgeous and has appeared in countless famous movies.

On our way to Loch Ness

On leaving the castle, the journey towards Loch Ness follows some incredible scenery.

We will be following a route through Kintail and passing the Five Sisters, a high mountain ridge rising steeply from Glen Shiel to a breathtaking height of just over three and a half thousand feet.

The Five Sisters are recognisable by their five distinctly pointed summits. This area is known for its exceptional scenery and is protected against any inappropriate development.

Our next stop will be at the famous Loch Ness, best known for its sightings of a mysterious monster. You will have the opportunity to do your own monster spotting on the shores of the Loch.

We will be stopping in Forth Augustus which is situated at the most southern tip of Loch Ness. Here you will have the chance to walk by the shores of the loch, or along the Caledonian canal and lock system.

There will be plenty of time here to enjoy the canal side and marvellous views of the loch. There are a number of dining and shopping opportunities in this area in which to indulge.

Experience Inverness

This Isle of Skye tour from Edinburgh includes the wonderful city of Inverness and our journey here will continue along the south side of Loch Ness.

We might be lucky enough to see something happen in the loch, or to even knock on the door of a man who has some inside information to share with us.

Steve Feltham is a real Nessie hunting legend who has made his name known to many people worldwide. Steve has been searching for the Loch Ness Monster for the last 28 years.

On now to Inverness for a quiet night in, or a late night out. You will be staying close to the city centre.

On arrival in the city we will get you checked into your accommodation for the evening and provide you with some suggestions of places to eat and drink whilst in Inverness.

We think that you’ll find it to be a warm and friendly small city with lots to offer, and one of the main highlights of your tour to the Isle of Skye from Edinburgh. Many of the pubs and restaurants have live traditional music and great value meals. Some of our favourites include the Waterfront, McGregors and Hootananny Inverness.

The Final Day of our Isle of Skye Tour from Edinburgh

After collecting you from your accommodation for the final leg of our four day Isle of Skye tour from Edinburgh, we will be sharing with you tales from the catastrophic battle between Jacobites and Government troops at Culloden Battlefield.

You will be able to set foot on the site of the last pitched battle on British soil and appreciate the true scale of the momentous clash. From this experience, you will find out why this battle that lasted only one hour changed the way of life of the Highlands and Islands forever.

On to Clava Cairns and the Cairngorm National Park

Not too far from Culloden, we will next visit Clava Cairns. We will delve even further back and discover the importance of the prehistoric 4,000 year old stone circles and burial mounds here.

This is a hugely significant and exceptionally well preserved site which has undoubtedly been the inspiration for Craig na Dun in Diana Gabaldon’s popular Outlander books.

Leaving Clava Cairns, we will head due south and through the Cairngorm National Park. The views in this area are simply stunning. You’ll hear some more about the wonderful wilderness of this area and why it has become such and important part of the Highlands.

Highland Folk Museum Stop-Off

The next stop on our Isle of Skye tour from Edinburgh is the Highland Folk Museum.

You will get the chance to experience how Highland people lived and worked from the 1700s up until the 1960s. Furthermore, this outdoor museum displays over 30 historical buildings, some of which have been built from scratch on site and others moved here from other places nearby.

There’s even a replica highland township from the 1700s which was used as a filming location for the hugely successful TV series ‘Outlander’, based on the popular books by Diana Gabaldon.

You will have time for lunch at the Folk Museum and the opportunity to the explore the area at your own pace.

If the idea of visiting a Whisky Distillery is of interest to you then your guide will offer you this as an option.

Last Stop – The Hermitage

Finally, our last stop on day four will be a gentle walk through big tree country to the famous waterfall and salmon leap at The Hermitage.

This part of the country is quite sublime with a range of some towering Douglas Fir trees set beside a series of waterfalls of the river Braan.

On the final leg of our return journey from the Isle of Skye back to Edinburgh, we will cross over the River Forth and get a bird’s eye view of the famous Railway Bridge.

This bridge amazed the world when it was finally completed in 1890 and has become an enduring symbol of Scotland’s engineering heritage.

When we arrive back in the city, it’s time to pick up our bags and bid our fond farewells as we complete this amazing Isle of Skye from Edinburgh tour.

How can I book accommodation?

Accommodation is not included in the price of your tour. To book accommodation, there are two options: either Rabbie’s Tours can book it for you, or you can book your own. For information on how to do this, please see the ‘Accommodation’ tab on FAQ page HERE .

Alternatively, please email us your questions at [email protected] or call us on +44(0)131 226 3133.

Information you can find on the FAQ page, under the ‘Accommodation’ tab : types of accommodation, room types, the booking process, getting to and from your accommodation, and cancellation terms.

How much will the accommodation cost?

We book accommodation with third-party providers on your behalf and each property sets their own rates. Rates vary considerably depending on the accommodation standard, facilities, location, and local demand. We therefore can’t tell you exactly how much your accommodation will cost until your request has been allocated to a specific property.

As a guide, you can expect to pay the following prices,  per person per night :

NOTE: Prices quoted are for guidance only and may be higher on some occasions, especially for last-minute bookings and when demand is high (E.g. peak season, weekends, holidays, special events etc)

*Please note that hotel rates can go up to £270 for a single room in the high season.

Breakfast will be included unless otherwise noted. The type of breakfast provided will vary from place to place so you may receive either a full cooked breakfast, a continental style breakfast (E.g., toast, fruit, cereal), or a packed breakfast bag or tray (E.g., porridge pot, fruit, granola bar).

Do you offer hotel pickups in the departure cities?

The UK and Ireland's historic city centres are full of narrow streets and winding roads. So, to speed up your departure, we only pick up from our central meeting points. What's more is leaving the city using the most direct route also reduces the carbon footprint of our tours.

Is there parking close to the departure point?

We don't recommend bringing your car into the centre of our departure cities. It can be hard to find parking, and there are excellent public transportation services.

When should I get to the departure point?

Arrive 15 minutes before your departure time. Due to waiting restrictions, we can't wait for you if you're late.

What happens if I'm late or miss the tour?

If you're late for your tour, our cancellation policy applies. 100% charges are applicable, and you will not be entitled to a refund or alternative.

What are your cancellation policies?

For one-day tours: You'll receive a full refund if you cancel 24 hours or more before the tour departure

For tours of between two and nine days: You'll receive a 90% refund if you cancel 15 or more days before the tour departure

For tours of 10 or more days: You'll receive a 90% refund if you cancel 21 or more days before the tour departure

For all European packaged tours: You'll receive a 90% refund if you cancel 42 days before the tour departure.

If you cancel inside these notice periods, full charges will apply and no refunds will be issued.

To cancel your booking, email [email protected] as soon as possible. The effective date of cancellation will be the date we receive written confirmation from you.

Can Itineraries change?

Your tour will always follow the itinerary as closely as possible. Your driver-guide will keep you up to date on the road, and we'll try to get in touch about any large changes prior to your departure.

Can I pre-book a specific seat?

Due to logistical reasons, we're unable to let you pre-book a seat on the bus. But our comfortable 16-seat mini-coaches have huge windows. So, you'll always get a good view.

Are there toilets on the bus?

Unfortunately, we have no on-board toilet facilities, but you'll have regular comfort breaks.

How do you cater for people with accessibility needs?

We aim to accommodate everyone. To read more information on how we do this, click here to go to our accessibility guide.

Do you take children on your tours?

We regret we don't carry children under the age of five on our scheduled tours.

You can ask us about the tours we recommend for younger children. And if your child is less than 1.35m tall, you should let us know, so we can provide them with a suitable booster seat.

How much time do I get off the bus?

We want you to enjoy Britain and Ireland. And we believe the best way to do this is to get you off the mini-coach and out exploring. So, we give you plenty of time to take photos, go walking, and explore ancient ruins.

Why do you exclude visitor attractions?

We exclude visitor attractions in your tour price because it lets you travel your way. It means you can pamper yourself with a luxury lunch or skip an attraction whenever you feel like it.

Do we need to bring our own lunch?

You don't need to. We stop in small towns, villages, and rural eateries where you can choose whatever meal pleases both your taste buds and your budget.

Should I tip the driver-guide?

Let's be honest, our driver-guides would never refuse a cheeky bonus. But it's up to you, and the amount is entirely at your discretion.

What about travel insurance?

We advise you take out travel insurance.

What is ABTOT?

You're protected by ABTOT when you chose to let us reserve your accommodation on a multi-day tour. This means you can claim back anything you've paid us if we become bankrupt. Read our terms and conditions for more information.

I have more questions, who can help me?

If you have any more questions, call us on +44(0)131 226 3133, email [email protected] , or check out our full FAQs .

Day 1 – Edinburgh to Nairn

Your 5-day Isle of Skye tour from Edinburgh, departs from your group’s chosen accommodation in the city. Leaving the historical capital city of Edinburgh behind, we travel north, over the Firth of Forth on the newly built Queensferry crossing into the Kingdom of Fife.

Our first stop of the day, is the former Royal Burgh town of Culross, which is also a prominent Outlander filming location. Your private group will step back in time, experiencing a leisurely walk through the cobbled streets of this picturesque 16th and 17th century village. Look out for Geilles Duncan’s House and Claire’s herb garden.

Travelling north through Perthshire, we arrive at the Hermitage, where you will enjoy a short forest walk through the giant Douglas firs, to view the thunderous Black Linn Falls on the River Braan.

After stopping off for lunch, we will pay a visit to the victorian spa town of Pitlochry, then traverse through the Scottish Highlands, for a welcome overnight stay in Nairn, on the Moray Firth.

Overnight Nairn

Day 2 – Nairn to Skye

After a good hearty Scottish breakfast, we make our way to Cawdor Castle, nestled in the woods of the Nairn valley. Cawdor was immortalised by William Shakespeare’s ‘Scottish Play’, Macbeth, as the scene of Duncan’s mythical death.

A short drive from Cawdor, our next visit is to the to the evocative, Culloden Battlefield, site of the last pitched battle in the United Kingdom between the Jacobites and Hanoverian British Soldiers. From the visitor centre, we take the short walk through Culloden Moor to pay our respects to the gallant Highlanders, who lost their lives in the last Jacobite Rebellion. Our next stop is only a 5 minute drive from Culloden, to the prehistoric Clava Cairns burial chambers, that are surrounded by mysterious standing stones.

With a brief stop for lunch, our journey to Skye continues on, by the banks of Loch Ness, through the majestic Highlands to Eilean Donan Castle in Dornie. This medieval castle protected the lands of Kintail from the Viking warriors, and was home to the mighty Clan MacRae for over 2 centuries.

We then take the short journey over the sea to Skye, via the new land bridge at the Kyle of Lochalsh. Travelling North, we pass through Skye’s second largest populated town of Broadford,  en-route to the charming town of Portree, the capital of Skye.

Overnight Skye

Day 3 – Isle of Skye Day Tour

We like to offer our guests a flexible approach to visiting Skye, and we can discuss where your group would like to visit before travelling commences, or as previous customers have opted for, on the actual journey to Skye.

Some of the more popular visitor attractions in Skye –

Old Man of Storr (1 and a half to 2-hour hike)

Staffin Bay

Quiraing (Full loop is approximate 4 hours. However, you can do a shorter hike, and then come back)

Fairy Pools

Talisker Whisky Distillery

Dunvegan Castle

See our popular one day sample Skye Itinerary from Portree below  – you can also customise your own day in Skye, or extend your stay to visit more attractions your group are interested in. This option though, must be done at the time of booking.

Get your hiking boots on for an amazing Fairy Pools adventure at Glenbrittle, overlooked by the daunting Cuillin mountains. After working up an appetite, we will savour some tasty local Scottish fayre at the Old Inn in Carbost, which overlooks Talisker Bay, and is only a stone’s throw away from the idyllic Talisker Whisky Distillery.

Following the coastline north, we can take the opportunity to visit Dunvegan Castle, home to Clan MacLeod. Dunvegan Castle is the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland, which offers guided tours, and boasts beautiful gardens to explore.

Next up, we pause briefly for a photo opportunity at The Quiraing, before searching for “dinosaur footprints”, in Staffin Bay.

On the road back to Portree, we will stop at Kilt Rock and The Old Man of Storr for fantastic photo opportunities.

We will also have time to take a short walk to the Glenfinnan Viaduct for spectacularly scenic photo opportunities.

Enjoying some splendid scenery and views of Scotland (and United kingdom’s) tallest Mountain, Ben Nevis, we head south through Fort William and on to the dramatic Glencoe mountain Range. We will have time to capture some photos of the Three Sisters and listen to the incredibly sorrowful story of the Glencoe Massacre, before taking the coastal road to Oban.

Overnight Oban

scotland isle of skye tour from edinburgh

Day 5 – Oban to Edinburgh

Our final day sees us leaving Oban, through Bonnie Argyle, where we will visit the fascinating Conan Kirk on Loch Awe. Stopping for a photo opportunity at Kilchurn Castle, we head eastwards, through the Trossachs National Park to visit the Scottish outlaw, Rob Roy McGregor’s grave at the picturesque Balquhidder Parish Church cemetery.

Our tour continues to Loch Lubnaig, and then on to the hamlet of Kilmahog, to feed the “Hairy Highland Coos”, Hamish and Honey Dubh. Our last stop of the day, takes us to the towering National Wallace Monument where you can enjoy spectacular views of Stirling Castle, and stunning Scottish scenery from the top of the monument.

This tour itinerary has been immensely enjoyed by many of our previous visitors to Scotland. I can't recommend this tour enough. It took us to so many beautiful places, I can't believe all we were able to see in one day. Gordon, our amazing guide, entertained us with story after story about the places we were visiting, and life in Scotland. We never felt rushed or uncomfortable. Perfect in every way!

Donna, North Carolina

What Our Customers Say

My boyfriend and I did this tour and we absolutely loved it. There was a good balance between being in the car and being out of the car, and also ample free time. Gordon our tour guide was unreal. He is very funny, and very knowledgeable about the area and the people. We had a ball. Would highly recommend to anyone who is limited in time but still wants to see all the sights and really get a taste of what the area is about.

We did the ISLE OF SKYE AND FAIRY POOLS TOUR departing from Inverness and it was perfect in every way. Every view was worth a picture and out guide Rob made it twice as good with fun an interesting stories from Scotland's history and old folklore. A must do!

We had an amazing tour with Gordon. His humor, knowledge of the area, and driving made the tour our favorite excursion in Scotland. I would advise anyone who wants to tour Skye to book this trip! Fairy Ponds were well worth it, even in the cold, and you have to meet the COOOOS!
