Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has several lounges travellers can use. From luxurious full service lounges with spa services, to something more basic, Delhi has airport lounges to suit every traveller.

I fly through Delhi often, both domestically and internationally, and have used the lounges many times. That’s what happens when you live in Delhi but have family back in Canada! This is the most current list of Delhi airport lounges.

Delhi Airport Lounges

What you should be aware of is that there is a lounge shortage at the Delhi airport. During Covid many lounges closed, and most never re-opened. Once travel started again in earnest, long lineups to get into the few remaining lounges was not uncommon. The opening of the Encalm Lounges has somewhat alleviated the problem.

Currently Air India is only airline lounge at the Delhi Airport. The other lounges are membership based or pay per use.

Lounges in Terminal 3

This is the international terminal at the Delhi airport and also handles some domestic flights. It is the largest terminal at DEL and has the most lounges for international and domestic travellers.

Air India Maharaja Lounge – International Departures

Even though this is one of the better lounges in the Delhi airport, it’s not great. I’ve been through it a number of times and while it’s better than sitting by the gate, it’s pretty lacklustre. Fortunately, it’s set for a major redesign, expansion and overhaul of its services. It should be pretty spectacular when complete.

There is always a selection of hot and cold dishes (mostly Indian, but good), beverages, complimentary Wi-Fi, showers and business facilities. It’s located on the upper level by the food court after security. Passengers with an onward Air India or Star Alliance airline flight in business or first class can access this lounge. Pets are allowed.

Encalm Prive Lounge – International Departures

The newest and largest lounge in Delhi airport, Encalm Prive is located where the Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines lounges used to be (both closed during Covid). It caters solely to business and first class passengers of partner airlines.

It’s currently the nicest lounge at Delhi airport, with a good selection of hot and cold foods, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, lots of seating and dining tables, pod rooms for sleeping, a yoga room and showers. Pets are not permitted (I usually travel with my dog, so this is something I always check out).

Encalm Lounge – International Departures

Located on the food court level, this is a pay per use lounge and the one Priority Pass members can access. It has a selection of hot and cold foods and beverages, but alcoholic drinks are not complimentary. The lounge can accommodate 245 guests and there’s free Wi-Fi. Pets are not permitted.

Air India Maharaja Lounge – Domestic Departures

Air India has a Maharaja Lounge in Domestic departures, after security. Those flying Air India or another Star Alliance airline in business or first class can use this lounge. The lounge has hot and cold dishes, beverages, complimentary Wi-Fi, showers and business facilities. Pets are allowed.

Centurion Lounge – Domestic Departures

American Express has a Centurion Lounge in the Delhi airport by gates 27 and 28. This lounge is exclusively for those with certain American Express cards. Not having an Amex card, I have never been inside this lounge, but the Centurion lounges have a reputation for being very nice.

Hot and cold food, complimentary beverages, Wi-Fi, showers and business services are available. Passengers can book a spa treatment for an extra fee.

Encalm Lounge – Domestic Departures

Located on the mezzanine level, this is a pay per use lounge. Priority Pass holders also have access to the Encalm Lounge. Guests can enjoy a selection of hot and cold foods and beverages (alcoholic drinks must be paid for), and free Wi-Fi. Pets are not permitted.

Encalm Lounge – Arrivals

This is the only lounge in Terminal 3 Arrivals. It’s located near Gate 4. Like the other Encalm Lounges, it’s pay per use, unless you’re a Priority Pass holder or have privileges through your carrier.

Lounges in Terminal 2

At the moment, Encalm Lounge is the only one at Terminal 2. Remember the lounge shortage I mentioned?

Encalm Lounge

Just like the other Encalm Lounges, there’s hot and cold food, beverages, and free Wi-Fi. Alcoholic drinks must be paid for. Pets are not allowed.

It’s located on the second floor near the food court, after security. This is a pay per use lounge that Priority Pass members have privileges at.

Lounges in Terminal 1

At the moment Encalm Lounge is the only lounge in Terminal 1.

You can expect hot and cold food, beverages, and free Wi-Fi. Alcoholic drinks must be paid for. Pets are not allowed.

You’ll find the lounge on the mezzanine level after security. This is a pay per use lounge that Priority Pass members have privileges at.

The Wrap-Up Guide to the Delhi Airport Lounges (DEL) 2024

There is a shortage of lounges in the Delhi airport which is pretty disappointing, given that DEL is the busiest airport in India and one of the busiest in the entire world. Air India is going to expand and overhaul their lounge in Terminal 3, so that will improve things.

Unless you have Encalm Prive Lounge privileges, keep your expectations in check. There’s actually some relaxing things to do at Terminal 3 besides hanging out in a lounge, like the Encalm Spa or Oxygen Bar. See my guide to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport for the details.

The best options for the past few years have been American Express Lounges, for the fact that they are exclusive and hence lesser crowds and the provision of a-la-carte meals. The first one to come up was the American Express Lounge Delhi International Airport Terminal 3 . Then, American Express operationalised a lounge at Mumbai International Airport Terminal 2 as well.

Amid the pandemic, the lounges in Delhi and Mumbai were both provisionally shut down. Amex took the time of reduced travel to renovate the lounge at Delhi Airport , and the lounge was opened to the public again in March 2021.

I visited the lounge in November 2022, and I decided to put out an updated review, given the current circumstances of the Delhi Airport and the lounge itself. The lounge has been recently rebranded as The Centurion, in line with the decision to move it to “The Centurion” Lounge like the rest of the world.

American Express Centurion Lounge Delhi International Airport: Location & Timings

The American Express Lounge Delhi International Airport is located at its original spot, in the atrium of the Delhi Airport’s Terminal 3 gate area, adjacent to gates 27-28. The location is superb, as this is the closest lounge to the domestic gates. This means that you can stay longer before you head up to your gate to board your flight. Only passengers on domestic flights operating from Terminal 3 will be able to access this lounge. The lounge is open 24×7.

As you approach the lounge, the first thing you notice will be the green wall entrance, in line with the global look and feel of the American Express Centurion Lounges dotted around the USA and Terminal 2 Mumbai lounge. The reception is behind plexiglass, as is the norm in these times.

On the inside, the lounge’s look and feel is more open and roomy now, and in line with the current times, where personal space is the ask. There is seating space for 35 people in one go, which is a step up from the earlier times.

American Express Centurion Lounge Delhi International Airport: Seating

The Lounge has four seating zones, each suited for a different type of customer. Right as you enter, you will notice solo seats, which are designed for a quick bite and a dash to your gate right after.

Most of the lounge has couches targeted towards the solo traveller who wants to get some work done and grab a bite or a drink at the lounge before they go. Each seat gets its plug point as well, for your phone or laptop to get some juice before you go.  Understandably, there is separation via plexiglass all around, but this allows the lounge to allow for more seats to be used rather than being blocked away for distancing purposes. All the seats face the same direction, designed to avoid face-to-face contact in the current world.

At the far end, and my favourite end, at the lounge, were the cabins. These cabins are designed with a full view of the airside operations, which gives aviation folk like me some exciting views to look forward to at the airport.  But more importantly, these allow for a group to be seated together, if there were one, or a few, to arrive at the lounge. There are two cabins available in the Lounge, and anyone can grab these seats. Many different seating configurations have been provided.

Each of these couches comes with enough plug points to go around, to get your work done, or send that last email before you get out for your flight.

There is a separate section created in the lounge now for Centurion Cardmembers. Behind a separate physical door, these cardmembers get cabins of their own, which means reserved seating for them.

In here also sits the bar/cafetaria that serves the entire lounge.

Besides all of this, there is counter space in the lounge, where there is a pick-me-up buffet breakfast during the day and snacks for the rest of the day. There is also a soft drinks counter and newspapers and reading materials lined up at the same counter. For instance, here is the lineup for the recent visit.

Dining options

As is the case most of the time, I took a seat with a view of the airside operations. The pier, during the evenings, is full of Vistara aircraft, with a splash of IndiGo. On the other side, which is not clearly visible from the lounge, is a big number of Air India aircraft.

As I seated myself, water was served, and I was asked if I wanted to eat or drink something. I asked to see what was available, and I was handed a tablet with a digital menu. For the sake of brevity, I am adding the old physical menu card. The servings are identical. There is a breakfast menu, and then there is an all-day menu available.

On this occasion, I ordered myself a salad with a Pepsi Black.

I also enquired about the alcohol being served . However, I was told that there was a supply issue, so most of the stock had run out, and they were unable to restock. Honestly, this is a Delhi-wide problem, not unique to this Lounge, but across all restaurants and hotels across the city. Let’s hope it gets better soon.

After eating, the staff removed the plates, and someone came on to sanitise the table.

American Express Lounge Delhi International Airport: Access Policy

The lounge is available to the following cardmembers:

• American Express Centurion Cardmembers (along with kids under 12 and 2 guests)
• American Express Platinum Cardmembers (along with kids under 12 and 2 guests)
• American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card members (3 times per quarter/12 times per annum)
• American Express Corporate Platinum Cardmembers

Suppose you are based in Delhi and want to access this lounge. In that case, you could start by sampling it with an American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card , which gets you access to the Delhi and Mumbai American Express Lounges, apart from other domestic lounges, three times a quarter (twelve times a year). When you  apply here , you get the welcome rate of INR 5,000 plus GST for the card, and a higher welcome gift of 15,000 Membership Rewards points instead of the usual 11,000 Membership Rewards points.

Or, if you are a frequent traveller, you should look at The American Express Platinum Card . You get an additional 10,000 Membership Rewards points on applying through this link .

The Centurion Lounge is comfortable, not crowded mostly, and has all the usual features of an American Express lounge that I have seen at other Amex Lounges in India and worldwide. Given the current situation where most cards get no access to a lounge in Delhi Airport, this is a safe haven for American Express cardmembers.

I would not recommend this lounge. As of Nov 2023 still “no alcohol” the lie is now that they are waiting for the license. Asked for sparkling water and they said they didn’t have! Complained and somehow they happen to find one. Food is terrible, Loungue is small. Mumbai’s is far better.

@Atlanta, since it is in the domestic departure pier, not accessible to those flying abroad from Delhi

huge bummer, as lounges imo are best served for international flight. i have a bom to syd via del and really could have benefited with the long layover before 12.5 hour international flight

@shivam, there are other lounges for international use. These lounges are small and meant to be for 20-30 min pit stops before domestic flights, not built for 4-5 hour layovers, honestly.

Can this be accessed thru priority pass and any other lounge option available in T3/T2

Any experience with the quality of the mango lassis in this lounge?

Ajay The issue is not with supply the staff is trained in a way to avoid telling alcohol is served -when asked specifically they will say it’s available but on charged basis even after showing platinum card -when u ask for manager then the platinum guests are served for free -i asked for certain double cask wine which they said was available-but they served fratelli to me -when I challenged them of not being double cask Jacob they apologised and accepted mistake and served -overall i think the management there is into cost cutting unlike mumbai centurion which is all transparent-i have used this loung three times

2. Authorization for an amount of Rs.2 will be taken for Card Validation purpose. The Cardmember will enjoy 12 complimentary visits every year (limited to 3 times per quarter). The 12 months period is defined as January 1 to December 31 of every year.

4. The quarter is as per calendar year, e.g. 1st January to 31st March, 1st April to 30th June and so on. The spend should exceed INR 50,000 to be eligible for complimentary lounge access in following quarter. Inaugurated on 1st May 1986, Terminal 2 underwent a transformation in 2017 to enhance its infrastructure and facilities. Efficiently managing up to 70 million passengers annually, Terminal 2 serves domestic airlines. It is strategically positioned close to Terminal 3 and offers easy connectivity through a direct pedestrian walkway. Terminal 2 ensures a relaxed and comfortable experience for flyers with a small food court, select retail outlets, and an upscale airport lounge. With ample check-in counters, X-ray machines, baggage reclaim belts, and aerobridges, this upgraded facility ensures a smooth and convenient journey, embodying a commitment to efficiency and passenger satisfaction.

Here is a handy guide to help you commute through Terminal 2:

By Airport Shuttle

Dmrc feeder bus, by airport metro, by airport cabs.

Delhi Airport provides a complimentary shuttle service between terminals. It offers an effortless commute for flyers and staff from T2 to T1/T3.

Passengers can board the complimentary bus service at T2 near VIP parking for convenient transfer. Follow the signage after the baggage checkpoints to avail of the shuttle. After presenting your boarding pass to the officer in charge at the kiosk, you can get the coupon for the transit bus.

The service remains operational 24x7

The bus arrives every 20 minutes

To transit to and from T2, prepaid cabs, OLA, Uber, Meru cabs, WTi cabs, Mega cabs, and Carzonrent are available, among others. Flyers can book cab services via their smartphones or by calling their offices.

Taxis can be booked for commuting between the terminals from the Taxi Counters inside the airport premises. Flyers can catch a taxi from T2 at Domestic and International Arrivals Terminal 2..

The cabs are available 24x7

For commuting between Terminal 1 and 2, flyers also have the option to use the Metro Feeder Bus Service provided by DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation). Flyers can board the bus at the T2 VIP Parking Area by paying a minimal fee of INR 40..

A feeder bus arrives every 20 minutes

Delhi Metro connects the New Delhi station to the Airport (T-3) metro station, which is nearest to Terminal 2 via Airport Express or Orange Line. The commute takes approximately 16 minutes.

The first metro runs at 4:45 am, while the last train arrives at 11:30 pm at IGI Airport Metro Station.

A train arrives at an interval of 10 minutes during peak hours and 15 minutes during non-peak hours.
