WorldTour team bikes 2022: The complete list

An updated look at what the pros will be using at the Tour de France along with the season's remaining races

Mmmm. New and shiny things. While pandemic-related delays have made getting hold of bikes tricky for many, plenty of teams are now equipped with the machines they’ll be riding for the coming season. However, this year there’s been a marked reduction in the chopping and changing of suppliers, with most teams seemingly keen to hold onto any sponsors they already have. This early in the season is also a slow time of year for new models, so most squads are currently making do with new paint jobs rather than redesigned bikes. Expect this to change as the weather and the racing hots up. Below you’ll find all the latest 2022 season team bikes that have broken cover. Expect any stragglers to be updated as newer versions arrive on the scene.

I neos Grenadiers

Pinarello Dogma F, Pinarello Bolide 

The 2022 season appears to be the year Ineos finally parts ways with its old-fashioned brakes. Is this because quicker wheel changes are now no longer considered a marginal gain? Could it be related to the fact Pinarello’s bikes are now a bit lighter? Who can say? Either way, in both formats, Pinarello’s Dogma remains the world’s most winning bicycle. Unusually, rather than split its range, Pinarello employs the Dogma to cover both lightweight and aero duties. Updated last year in time for the Tour, this latest model supersedes the F12 and is dubbed simply the Dogma F. Tweaked rather than rebuilt from scratch, it’s lighter and stiffer than any previous Dogma, plus it’s now also wireless-only. Still being offered with either rim or disc brakes, the fact that you can now build it almost to the UCI’s 6.8 kg weight limit in either format will likely leave Tadej Pogačar and Colnago as the peloton's last advocates of traditional callipers.

Formerly known as Boels–Dolmans, it’s lucky the mighty SD Worx team has so many national and world champions in its ranks, if only because their jerseys water down the effect of that purple kit.  Weirdly, applied to the squad’s Specialized S-Works bicycles the unusual combo of red, black, and purple is significantly more appealing.

With Specialized recently aeroifying its Tarmac and killing off the Venge, the SD Worx riders will spend the most time aboard this all-rounder, allowing them to save the more forgiving Roubaix for bumpier Classics. Following Demi Vollering winning what's likely to be the last ever La Course by Le Tour de France, this year the team will be back targeting the extended eight-day women's Tour.

Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert team bike

How Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert’s kit manages to accommodate so many clashing logotypes and yet still look the business I don’t know.  Its bikes, produced by German firm Cube, also look very nice. A lot of this is down to the Newmen wheels. Pasted with perhaps the nicest of the almost twenty different fonts dotted across rider, bike, and kit, their spinning logos can’t help but make the squad’s riders look fast.

With Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert bringing Cube bikes with it when it levelled-up to WorldTour in 2021, this is only the second time its machines will have been seen at this level. With the brand’s Litening model likely to do most of the work, the Aerium will get held back for time trials.

Bora-Hansgrohe

Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL7, Specialized S-Works Shiv

Already sponsoring the mighty SD Worx and Deceuninck-Quick Step teams, Bora-Hansgrohe represents Specialized’s cheeky side-bet.  Having already convinced riders the world over to max-out their credit card on a new extractor hood for their cooker and shower for their bathroom, the influence of Peter Sagan has probably helped shift a few bikes too.

Human Powered Health

Felt AR, Felt FR, Felt DA

A USA-based team with a USA-based bike supplier. Californian firm Felt supplies bikes to both Human Powered Health's men's and women's teams. However, it's just the women who will be competing in the most significant events, thanks to their WorldTour licence. Matching the squad's orange kit, the team's bikes are slightly more restrained, limiting themselves to just orange and black rather than adding purple into the mix, as do their jerseys.

Unsurprisingly, Felt's AR is the more aero of its two road bikes, while the DA is just for time trials. Interestingly, from what we've seen the team seem to be racing on Sram's second-tier Force groupset. However, seeing as their bikes probably make the weight cut anyway, saving a few quid on parts is likely to come with little in the way of drawbacks.

Lotto-Soudal 

Ridley Helium, Ridley Noah Fast, Ridley Dean TT

Repping gambling, household fixatives and proper bike racing. Belgian team Lotto-Soudal is the oldest cycling team in the world, and perhaps also the coolest. Looking to add more victories to the thousand or so it’s already snatched, this year both its men’s and women’s squads will continue to employ Ridley bicycles.

Wheels: DT Swiss

Total Energies

It’s all change at French team TotalEnergies. For one, its sponsor gains an an ‘s’ to become plural and assumedly suggest it’s now also into windfarms or something similar. More excitingly for cycling fans, it also gains an ‘s’ for Sagan.

Team BikeExchange 

Giant TCR Advanced SL Disc, Giant Propel Advanced SL Disc, Giant Trinity Advanced Pro Team BikeExchange continue to live up to its name with a third bicycle sponsor in as many years. So out goes Italian firm Bianchi, in comes Taiwanese behemoth Giant. Giving both men’s and women’s squads a whole new set of toys to play with, the team has decided to paint each in either pink or blue, so no one gets confused as to whose is whose. Regardless of colour, both sets of riders are likely to find themselves spending the majority of their time aboard the aerodynamic Propel, while climbers like Simon Yates will reach for the more slender TCR Advanced SL Disc when things get hilly. Recently relaunched as a stand-alone brand, the team are also expected to be using Cadex’s hookless and tubeless wheels. .

Israel Start-Up Nation

Factor Ostro VAM, Factor Slick 

Despite what you might hear from fellow golfers on the links, Chris Froome's success was not actually entirely down to the Italian firm’s pricey bicycles. Now battling to return to the front of the pack, his weapon of choice is Factor's  Ostro Vam, which has superseded both the O2 and the Vista as the brand's flagship bike.

UAE Team ADQ

Having snaffled up most of the defunct Alé BTC Ljubljana team’s riders, the new UAE Team ADQ won’t be entirely unfamiliar to cycling fans. However, bringing it in line with the similarly UAE-backed men’s team, its riders will take on the 2022 season aboard new bikes. Migrating from one Italian brand to another, its riders will switch from Cipollini to Colnago.

Uno-X Pro Cycling Team

Dare MA-AFO, Dare VSRu, Dare TSRf

The Norwegian Uno-X Pro team opts for bikes from direct-to-consumer firm Dare. Seemingly enjoying a close relationship with the firm, the team also appears to be handling PR for the brand. Working on the assumption that red ones are always quicker, each team build comes with an all-over red paint job.

AG2R Citröen 

BMC Teammachine SLR01, BMC Timemachine 01

in 2021 French outfit AG2R Citröen Team switched from Eddy Merckx Cycles to Swiss maker BMC. This left the newly refocused team chasing the Classics aboard the brand’s latest Teammachine SLR01 while tackling any time-trials they might find themselves presented with on the Timemachine 01 (the time trial specific Timemachine that is, not to be confused with the Timemachine Road).

In an unusual twist, the sponsorship arrangement means they'll be riding Campagnolo groupsets, which is a pairing of brand and groupset we haven't seen since the days of Phonak.

Movistar Team

Canyon Ultimate, Canyon Aeroad, Canyon Speedmax

Shop Canyon

Movistar sticks with long-term sponsor Canyon. Teased by the men’s and women’s squads last year, the recently redesigned Aeroad road bike will be both outfits’ default choice.  Less aggressively slippery, the Ultimate might also get occasional use, while the Speedmax will serve for solo racing and team time trials.

Jumbo–Visma

Cervelo R5, Cervelo S5, Cervelo P5

While the radically shaped S5 is the most distinctive of Cervelo's bicycles, it was the more conventional-looking machine spotted beneath Primoz Roglic this April that got bike nerds twitching.

Eventually revealed as the new R5, it remains Cervelo's most classically styled bicycle. Now slicker and more versatile than the former self, it's also spawned a cyclocross-specific variant, the R5-CX  - good news for multi-discipline stars Wout van Aert and and  Marianne  Vos.

Scott Addict RC, Scott Foil, Scott Plasma 

American bicycle behemoth Scott provides the machines to support the male and female DSM squads. With the pointy looking Foil for sprint races, the Addict RC will come out in the mountains leaving the brand’s Plasma for time-trials.

Cofidis Solutions Crédits

As I’m sure they’ll be thrilled to discover, it’s not escaped my notice how handsome the Cofidis lot are looking this year. From team kit to personal grooming, the whole shebang is a vast improvement on previous iterations. Having swapped bikes a few times in recent years, this year they’ve also stuck with De Rosa, which is a good move because De Rosa bikes are also devilishly handsome.

Canyon-Sram 

Canyon Aeroad, Canyon Ultimate, Canyon Speedmax Despite having parted company with Rapha, Canyon-Sram continues to be the best turned-out team in the peloton. Matching its Astral Burn jerseys designed by Ultan Coyle, the team's bikes also get similarly striking liveries. Continuing the diamonds found on the team’s sleeves down onto the legs of their forks, the riders get a mix of both mauve and white bikes, depending on the model used. Home to established powerhouses Katarzyna Niewiadoma and Chloé Dygert, the Canyon-Sram riders will be using the mauve Ultimate CF when in the hills and the dangerously sharp looking Aeroad across flatter terrain. Provided by direct-to-consumer brand Canyon bicycles, they’re sure to provoke envy from amateur racers and hatred from bike shop owners in equal measure. Time trials, of which the team has more than a few riders capable of winning, will get covered by the firm’s Speedmax. Replicating both the bikes and kit list of the similarly outfitted Movistar squad, we think Canyon-Sram definitely has the edge when it comes to styling.

Colnago V3rs, Colnago K-One

Now the winner of two back-to-back Tours, Tadej Pogačar is the latest rider to help Colnago add another win to its extensive collection. Coming after something of a drought for the Italian firm, Ernesto has certainly got his money’s worth. Repeatedly switching between disc and rim brakes to tailor the weight of his bike depending on the stage, he’s one of the last great advocates for rim braking. Happy to supply him with either technology, Colnago provides him with the V3rs for road stages and the K-One time trials. On occasions, like during the decisive stage of the 2020 Tour de France, you might even see him using both in a single day.

Often switching to the disc version for training or muckier races, all UAE Team Emirates’ bikes come finished off with equally Italian Campagnolo wheels and Record EPS gruppos.

FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope

Before we get onto bikes, how cool would it be to be sponsored by a theme park? Even if that theme park had a weird educational bent and instead of rides was based around multimedia cinema shows, and if I remember correctly from my last visit in the 90s, included a soundtrack provided by the Pet Shop Boys?

Pretty cool huh? Not cool like Universal Studios Hollywood, but still good.

Anyway, continuing its dedication to all things French, the FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope team has paired with Dijon-based Lapierre to supply its bikes. While the Aircode would seem an obvious all-around choice, the team also regularly employs the more swoopy and forgiving Xelius. With the Aerostorm doing for time trials, all come decked-out with Shimano Dura-Ace groupsets and wheels.

Groupama - FDJ 

Lapierre Aircode, Lapierre Xelius, Lapierre Aerostorm

Like its sister-squad, FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope, the Groupama - FDJ men race on French-designed Lapierre bikes. These now include an updated version of the Xelius. Trialled at the Critérium du Dauphiné, this latest third version of the firm's lightweight platform retains the unusual chainstay configuration, but now also benefits from much cleaner hidden cable routing.

Also sporting a new carbon cockpit, tube shapes across the bike have also been tweaked to make it a little more aero. Arriving done up in matt black and hung about with PRO components and Shimano wheels, they're significantly more handsome than previous versions.

Trek-Segafredo

The clue is in the name. Caffeine and bicycle pedalling outfit Trek-Segafredo makes the unsurprising choice to stick with the eponymous Wisconsin-based brand. Listing three possible models alongside the time-trial-specific SpeedConcept, these are the slinky Émonda, versatile Madone, and cobble-capable Domane.

World Champion Elisa Balsamo will head up a very strong women’s roster aboard a rainbow bike, while on the men's side Giulio Ciccone will aim to give the Tifosi something to cheer.

Astana-Qazaqstan

Wilier Filante SLR, Wilier 0 SLR, Wilier Turbine TT

After many years out of the WorldTour, we were very happy to see Wilier return to the peloton last year as the bike of choice for Astana (now Astana-Qazaqstan).

Wilier's new Filante will certainly be the eye-catcher for 2022. With fully integrated cabling and a host of technical wonders, it represents a substantial update from the brand's stalwart racer the Cento10Pro.

Bahrain Victorious

Merida Reacto, Merida Scultura, Merida Warp TT

Merida might have been bumped as title sponsor of the vaingloriously-named Bahrain squad a few seasons ago, but it continues to supply the bicycles. Slipped out during the Tour's traditional prologue, the Critérium du Dauphiné, its latest Scultura got off to a good start in 2021 by helping propel Mark Padun to two consecutive wins in the mountains.

Clearly taking a few cues from the firm's other more recently updated bikes, it's likely to be rolled out only for the highest peaks. Leaving Merida's blade-like Reacto to deal with the flat and rolling stages, time-trial duties will be taken care of aboard the firm’s Warp TT.

Cannondale SuperSix Evo, SystemSix, SuperSlice

Jonathan Vaughters and Charly Wegelius’s outfit sticks with Cannondale bikes, no doubt planning to commit further atrocities upon them using neon pink paint and randomly aligned skateboard stickers later in the season. Out of the American brand’s bikes, the SystemSix is the most aero, so will get the most use. The Supersix might come out occasionally on bumpy days, while the vicious-looking SuperSlice will aim to cut down the competition in any time-trials.

Roland-Cogeas-Edelweiss Squad

Receiving confirmation of its WorldTour status just in time for the 2022 season, the Swiss-based Roland-Cogeas-Edelweiss Squad has existed in one form or another since 2018. With some surprised the gang was able to make the leap up this year, the team will be looking to solidify its status with opportunist results wherever it can. Riding on Look bikes from over the boarder in France, in the past its riders have generally stuck to the firm's calliper brake versions.

Why   World Tour Bicycles   are so special? In this guide, you’ll find all the   Team 2022   machines, tech specs, and highlights that make   Pros’ bikes   so unique and desired.

Before going into the details, the big news for 2022 is that the World Tour teams will go from 19 to 18, with the exclusion of   Team Qhubeka NextHash . There are also many name changes, related to the entry of   new sponsors.

In terms of bicycles and components, the most significant change concerns the   BikeExchange-Jayco team , which will not use Bianchi bikes but will be sponsored by   Giant , which returns to the World Tour after a one-year break.

WORLD TOUR BICYCLES – THE COMPLETE LIST

Ag2r citroën team (act) – bmc.

Team AG2R Citroën maintains the same setup as last year, with   BMC bicycles   and   Campagnolo wheels,   and groupset. The bottom bracket is supplied by Cema, a lesser-known Belgian brand that is specialized in low-friction bearings for bicycles. The team rides a range of five different   Fizik saddles,   depending on rider preference.

Astana-Qazaqstan (AST) – WILIER

A change of sponsors has seen Canada’s Premier Tech switch to co-sponsoring Israel-Premier Tech, leaving Astana with an all-Kazakhstan line of sponsors. This year the team racked up former riders, with the comeback of Vincenzo Nibali and Miguel Angel Lopez, and signed Gianni Moscon from Ineos-Grenadiers.

The bicycles remain Wilier. The Wilier Filante is a lightweight, aerodynamic all-around bike, while the Zero SLR aims to be even lighter. The new Willier Turbine SLR time trial bike was also presented at the Giro d’Italia.

In terms of equipment, the most important change is a switch from Wolfpack tires to Vittoria tires, so not much, with the same mix of Wilier bikes, Shimano drivetrain, and Corima wheels, as well as faster CeramicSpeed bottom brackets and rear derailleur pulley wheels as in 2021.

Bahrain Victorious (TBV) – Merida

Bahrain Victorious is another team that stays true to last year’s formula. The main change is the new and even lighter/aerodynamic   Merida Scultura.   It is more integrated and more aerodynamic, although it was used for most of last year, although the official launch did not occur until September.

The team also rides a new fourth-generation   Time Warp TT bike   for 2022.

On the gear side,   Bora-Hansgrohe   continues as usual, with   Specialized   and   Roval   as the main suppliers, and the groupset is   Shimano Dura-Ace Di2.

• In Bike-room we had a real gem by Bora. We are talking about the   Limited Edition Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL7, Peter Sagan Collection.   By exposing the frame to the sun’s rays, the colors will “explode” in a myriad of shades of green, a tribute from Specialized to the man who holds the record for the Green Jersey at the Tour de France.

Cofidis (COF) –  De Rosa

This year Cofidis continues to use   De Rosa Merak ,   SK Pininfarina,   and the new   TT Disc bicycles , all with a new livery. The team has the same   Campagnolo Super Record EPS groupset   with an   SRM power meter.   The main change concerns the switch from   Fulcrum wheels   to   Corima.   This brings the number of Corima teams in the WorldTour to two this year, increasing the perception of what is a relatively minor wheel brand in the higher scene of professional cycling.

EF Education-EasyPost (EFE)

EF Education-EasyPost , surely the team with the “coolest” image in the World Tour, continues to race with Cannondale. The bikes are the   all-around SuperSix EVO , the aero road   SystemSix   and   Super Slice   for the TT, while   FSA   and   Vision   will provide   wheels   and   cockpits.   This year the team switched to Wahoo computers, along with the brand’s sneakers and other equipment, and also continues to use Wahoo Speedplay pedals. Riders used Power2Max power meters in early season races, although a switch to the new Speedplay power meter seems likely.

Ineos-Grenadiers (IGD) – Pinarello

Team Ineos-Grenadiers riders are equipped with the   Dogma F , the latest version from Pinarello as early as the middle of last year, and at the same time, they have mostly switched to pedaling with disc brakes, after being the last stronghold of traditional brakes among the pros for years. Otherwise, things remain much the same, albeit with a   12-speed Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 groupset.   You’ll also find   Dura-Ace wheels , although Ineos is leaning toward other wheel brands, including   Lightweight   and   Princeton,   Fizik   saddles, and   Pinarello’s MOST   cockpits.

In Bike-room we were able to ” put our hands” on some of these jewels.   Five unique pieces, two of them limited editions,   inspected and refurbished for you by our World Tour mechanic. We also had the honor of receiving directly from Gianni Moscon, his signed Dogma F. Gianni, now with Team Astana,   allowed us an exclusive interview   to tell us about his feelings in the race, share with us the emotions of the 2021 Paris-Roubaix lived as a protagonist and about his passions and personal projects.

This bike,   produced in a one-off and signed by the athlete , was auctioned on Catawiki. Part of the proceeds was donated to MelaMango, a non-profit organization working in Africa with the goal of contributing to the dream of Davide Chini, a friend of Gianni’s who died in an accident.

Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux (IWG) – CUBE

Again this year, with   Cube bicycles   and especially the   Litening aerodynamic road bike , Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux is now also using   Cube’s wheels   from the   Newmen   sub-brand, with profiles from 50 mm to 80 mm. Cube made the most of the available bicycle space with huge logos for both brands.

Other components and finishing kits remain as last year, with   Shimano Dura-Ace ,   CeramicSpeed’s OSPW system,   and   Bryton Rider 750 computers.

Israel-Premier Tech (IPT) – FACTOR

Factor bicycles are supporting   Team Israel-Premier Tech   also this year, with the premium lightweight   VAM frame   paired with cockpits and wheels from   Black Inc , a sub-brand of Factor. This year Israel-Premier Tech switched from entirely Shimano chains and power meters to   Rotor.   Shimano continues to supply   Dura-Ace Di2 derailleurs.   Oval chainrings are not as popular as they were a few years ago, but we may see some make an appearance. Other kits, including   CeramicSpeed bearings   and   Hammerhead computers , are up to the task as usual.

Jumbo-Visma (TJV) – CERVELO

It was a winning formula last year, with Primož Roglič triumphing at the   Vuelta an España   and the Olympics, and   Wout van Aert   winning just about everywhere, so why change? After the   “epochal switch”   of bikes, from Bianchi to Cervélo, this year’s   Jumbo-Visma , fresh   Tour De France   winner with   Jonas Vingegaard , sampled to triumph by the outstanding Wout, remains loyal to the Canadian brand, with the rest of the components and finishing kit unchanged.

Lotto-Soudal (LTS) – RIDLEY

The big change this year for   Lotto-Soudal   is the switch from the   Campagnolo groupset and wheelset,   which it had been using since a long time, to   Shimano Di2   and   DT Swiss wheels . This involved switching from the   SRM power meter to 4iiii.   Like   AG2R Citroën , the team uses   Cema bottom bracket bearings.   For the 13th year, the team continues to use bikes from the Belgian brand   Ridley .   Here in Bike-room two, really rare frames from Ridley have stopped by.   We are talking about 2 exclusive paint jobs made by the Belgian brand, for two of its Top Riders:   Thomas De Gendt   and   John Degenkolb.

Once again this year,   QuickStep Alpha Vinyl   chose the   Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL7   with   Roval wheels   and   Spesh tires.   The Belgian team also again chose   Shimano Dura-Ace   for the groupset – upgraded to 12 speeds – and   Shimano power meter.

Team BikeExchange-Jayco (BEX) – GIANT

We love puns, and   Team BikeExchange-Jayco   made an easy one by swapping bikes for the second year: keep up the good work, guys! After one season, the team dropped   Bianchi Bicycles   and switched to Giant bikes with Giant’s Cadex performance brand wheels, tires, handlebars, and saddles. The new Giant computer and   Stages Dash 200   is the riders’ headset. Shimano remains the groupset supplier, with   Dura-Ace Di2   as the only non-Giant component. The partnership with Giant lasts until 2024, so next year we will be out of luck with puns.

Team DSM (DSM) – SCOTT

Team DSM keeps the same equipment as last year, using   Scott bikes   with   Shimano Dura-Ace groupsets   and wheels, as well as   Syncros components ,   PRO saddles , and   Wahoo computers.

Trek-Segafredo (TFS) – TREK

Like   Movistar ,   Trek-Segafredo   is also riding   SRAM groupsets   this year, but in this case with wheels from   Trek’s Bontrager brand.   The biggest change is a new version of the time trial bike, the Speed Concept, launched late last year. According to Trek, it will save 16 watts at 40 kilometers per hour and now features IsoSpeed.

Road stage bikes remain unchanged, with the aerodynamic and lightweight   Emonda SLR   and the aerodynamic and flat   Madone SLR.

Last team, but only on the list, the   UAE Team Emirates   of two-time   Tour de France   champion   Tadej Pogačar   continues to use   Colnago bikes   this year, fully   Campagnolo -equipped and with   SRM power meters.   Despite the release of the new   Colnago C68 Dura-Ace superbike , team riders remain riding   Colnago V3Rs   bikes throughout the season. The K. one-time trial bike has been replaced by the   Colnago TT1.

Campagnolo   Bora wheels are fitted with Pirelli P Zero tires.

Team bikes of the 2022 Women’s WorldTour

We look at the bikes, groupsets, wheels, and equipment of the 2022 women's world tour peloton..

The 2022 Women’s World Tour finally kicks off this weekend at the iconic Strade Bianche one day event. Following the cancellation of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Race, the Women’s World Tour peloton will once again descend on the white roads of Tuscany for the opening round of this year’s racing season. As the riders prepare to tackle the dusty roads and steep climbs, it is time for our annual look at all the bikes in the Women’s World Tour peloton.

The World Tour has grown from nine teams in 2021 to 14 for 2022, which of course, means many more bikes to enjoy this year.

Canyon-SRAM

No prizes for guessing which bikes Canyon-Sram will ride in 2022. While Rapha jumped teams for 2022, Canyon-SRAM has emphatically answered any concerns it might lose its signature loud kit and bike design. If you can take your eyes off the paint job for a second, let’s run through the actual build. The team will race on the Canyon Aeroads equipped with SRAM Red Etap AXS groupsets . Keeping the build almost entirely under the SRAM umbrella, they will race on Zipp wheels and Time pedals. Unsurprisingly, Quarq is on Powermeter duty and the team uses Garmin head units, despite SRAM’s recent Hammerhead acquisition .

Canyon-SRAM opted for Schwalbe tyres wrapped around those Zipp wheels, with the Pro One tubeless on the Zipp 303s in the setup pictured. German brand Ergon supplies the saddles, while Tacx provides water bottles, bottle cages, and home trainers. Canyon will also supply the team’s new kit for 2022, building on its sponsorship and bike supply commitments to the team.

EF Education-Tibco-SVB

EF Education-Tibco-SVB (Silicon Valley Bank) is the first of the new teams in this year’s World Tour. They share several sponsors with the men’s team of a similar name but remain a stand-alone entity. Cannondale supported the previous Tibco-SVB iteration and will stick with the team as it makes the step into the World Tour for 2022. They will race on R9200 Dura-Ace Di2 equipped Cannondale SuperSix Evo as pictured. The team drops the new Dura-Ace cranks in favour of the 4iiii power meter equipped Cannondale Hologram crank, although we spotted a few riders are still running the R9100 cranks in the early season races. FSA provides the stem and handlebars, while sister company Vision provides its Metron wheels. EF Education-Tibco-SVB will race on Vittoria tyres and seemingly opt exclusively for tubeless setups based on the photos we have seen so far this season. Wahoo provides the team with its Elemnt Bolt head units , Kickr trainers , and Speedplay pedals . Arundel is on hand with bottle cages, while Prologo provides the saddles and bar tape.

FDJ-Nouvelle-Aquitaine-Futuroscope.com

Lapierre has once again outdone itself. After last year’s FDJ-Nouvelle-Aquitaine-Futuroscope team bikes were some of Lapierre’s best-looking machines, the French brand has seemingly saved its best looking bikes for the French team once again. They made the switch to the new  Lapierre Xelius SL3  announced just last year and will also have the  Aircode DRS aero road bike  to call upon for flatter, faster stages. Interestingly the bikes pictured on the team website show the new Xelius built with the new R9200 12 speed Dura-Ace Di2, while the Aircode builds gets the outgoing R9100 11 speed Dura-Ace Di2. Both bikes are pictured with R9100 Dura-Ace wheelsets wrapped in Continental Competition Pro LTD tubular tyres, although we have seen Grace Brown racing on the new R9200 Dura-Ace C50 tubeless wheels. Shimano also supplies the Dura-Ace pedals. Prologo saddles and Elite bottle cages complete the build.

Human Powered Health

Human Powered Health, formerly Rally Cycling, made the step up to the World Tour for 2022 and brought Felt bicycles with them. They will race on Felt’s AR aero road and FR road bikes. FSA and Vision are on hand again, supplying the team with wheels, bars, stems, and seat posts. Human Powered Health races on Goodyear tyres, seemingly tubulars based on the photos we found. Wahoo again provides its range of head units and Speedplay pedals.

Interestingly, they will race with SRAM Red Etap AXS components and Quarq power meters, but SRAM isn’t listed as a partner on the website and training bikes are seemingly equipped with Force Etap AXS.

LIV Racing Xstra

Liv Racing added Xstra to its team name for 2022 and will once again race on the Liv Langma Advanced SL Disc . Riders will likely also have the choice of the Liv Enviliv Advanced Pro Disc dedicated aero race bike. SRAM has for a long time been the most heavily invested manufacturer in the Women’s World Tour. While Shimano has drawn level in the number of teams racing on its components this year, Liv Racing Xstra is once again racing with SRAM’s Red Etap AXS groupsets and Quarq power meters.

Riders will have a range of Cadex wheels to choose from and while they don’t list an official tyre supplier, we have seen photos of riders racing on both Vittoria and what appeared to be Pirelli tyres this season. Interestingly, the Liv Racing team is seemingly sticking with tubulars so far this season. Giant and sister brand Cadex also supplies the team’s saddles and handlebars for 2022.

Team Movistar Women

It’s as you were for Team Movistar in 2022. Canyon is once again supplying the team with bikes, while SRAM equips the bikes with its Red Etap AXS drivetrain and Quarq power meters. Zipp provides the wheels, and although the Aeroad pictured is fitted with 303 Firecrest and Continental Competition Pro LTD tubulars, Annemiek van Vleuten opted for a tubeless setup with the new Continental GP 5000 S TR for her Omloop Het Nieuwsblad victory.

The team rides identical bikes to that of the Movistar men’s team, and as such, provided one image of the new Aeroad for both teams. Look provided its Keo pedals, while the cockpit features Lizard Skins bar tape and Garmin head units. Italian brand Elite provides Team Movistar with its bottle cages, bottles and smart trainers.

Roland Cogeas Edelweiss Squad

Little is known of the new Swiss-registered squad in the Women’s World Tour. Having seemingly raced only the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana so far this year and having opted out of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad last weekend, very few photos exist of the team in action. The photos we have seen are taken from a distance and appear to show various different setups.

The team lists Look as a partner on its website and raced on Look bikes previously. Photos we have seen show riders racing on Look’s 785 Huez RS and 795 Blade RS rim-brake framesets. While Campagnolo previously supplied the team groupsets, these photos also appear to show the team racing with both SRAM and Campagnolo groupsets. The photos also show the team racing with both Cormia and Campagnolo wheelsets.

Hopefully, a clearer picture of the team’s exact setup will emerge this weekend as the riders line up at the first World Tour event of the season.

Team BikeExchange-Jayco

While there are many new teams in the Women’s World Tour this year, the only existing team changing bike supplier (UAE Team ADQ is technically a new team) is Team BikeExchange-Jayco. This year’s switch to Liv and the Langma Advanced SL Disc follows a one year stint on Bianchi bikes. Despite the change, the team sticks with Shimano groupsets for 2022, with team bikes pictured equipped with R9200 12 speed Dura-Ace Di2. Not only has the team, like many others, seemingly struggled to find R9200 cranks so far this season, but we also spotted some riders still racing on the R9100 11 speed Dura-Ace Di2 groupset on their new bikes. Expect that to change as the R9200 becomes more widely available.

Unsurprisingly, Cadex is on hand to provide wheels, tyres, bars, and saddles. The photo provided has the bike equipped with the Cadex 42 hookless tubeless wheelset and Cadex tyres. We have also seen the team race with the 42 tubulars wheelsets and Vittoria’s Corsa tubular tyres. The team lists Joe’s No Flats tubeless sealant manufacturer as a partner for those tubeless setups. Team BikeExchange is racing with Giant bottle cages and head units and uses Cema bearings and bottom brackets.

Team Jumbo Visma

We asked Team Jumbo-Visma for pictures of its 2022 bikes, unfortunately, we were provided with the same Cervelo S5 photo sent for last year’s World Tour bikes feature. We now know they will be racing on an as of yet unreleased new S5 . Although that new bike is hiding in plain sight, understandably the team can’t supply us with pictures of an unreleased new bike. In the meantime what we are left with is this photo of the riders rolling to the start of the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana. Cervelo provides the team with the R5 , S5 , Caledonia 5 , and P5. The four riders pictured are all racing with the Shimano 11 speedR9100 Dura-Ace Di2, a trend we have seen continue in recent races. Seemingly even one of the best team’s on the planet is suffering the same supply issues the rest of us face.

Jumbo-Visma races on Shimano Dura-Ace wheels wrapped in Vittoria tyres. Shimano also supplies the pedals, while Fizik is the team’s saddle sponsor. FSA provides its stems and handlebars. Garmin provides the team’s head units and sister company Tacx provides bottles, cages, and trainers.

Following a bike supplier change for last season, DSM remained with Scott for 2022 and no doubt had a slightly quieter build-up to this season. The team will race on the Addict RC, and should have the option of the Foil aero for flatter road stages and the Plasma TT for time trial days. As an official Shimano partner, the team races on a full Shimano package including the R9200 12 speed Dura-Ace Di2 groupsets, wheels, and pedals. Shimano’s sister company PRO supplies the saddles.

Vittoria is back for another season as tyre sponsor. Contrary to what we have seen with other teams, we have seen DSM’s tubeless setup pictured swapped out for tubular wheels and tyres on race day. Wahoo provides the team head units, while Elite provides the bottles, cages and home trainers. The only thing news riders will have to get used to for 2022 is the additional rear sprocket.

Team SD Worx

Team SD Worx are adopting the “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach to its 2022 team bike. Apart from a new paint job on its Tarmac SL7, the team will race with identical equipment options to last year. The S-Works frames are built with, you guessed it, SRAM’s Red Etap AXS groupsets and Quarq power meters. Zipp is again supplying the wheelsets, while it’s over to Specialized again for the tyres and saddles. Back under the SRAM umbrella again, Time provides the team with its pedals. Tacx supplies the team with bottles, cages, and trainers, while the team uses head units from Tacx’s parent company, Garmin.

Team Trek-Segafredo

Trek-Segafredo is another team sticking with largely the same setup for 2022. The team races on the Trek Madone and the Emonda , both equipped with SRAM Red Etap AXS groupsets and Quarq power meters. Bontrager provides the team’s components, saddles, and wheels. Pirelli is now a named sponsor on the TSF kit and supplies the team with its P-Zero tyres.

The riders will race and train with Wahoo head units again, and for the first time, Wahoo has provided home trainers as well. The team lists Kogel bearings as a partner, Stans No Tubes presumably for tubeless sealant and, interestingly, Notio aerometers, although don’t expect to see these in use on race day.

UAE Team ADQ

UAE Team ADQ is one of the two newly formed WorldTeams on the scene, having acquired ALE’ BTC Ljubljana’s World Tour license the team took on many of the same riders but has an entirely new feel. In comes Colnago as a team bike supplier with Campagnolo on board to provide its Super Record EPS groupsets and Bora Ultra wheels. The team will race on the V3Rs, with Deda components and Prologo saddles. Elite bottle cages and Pirelli tyres keep the bike almost entirely Italian, with only French brand Look managing to break the Italian theme with its Keo pedals. Wahoo supplies the team’s head units and home trainers.

Uno-X Pro Cycling Team

Uno-X Pro Cycling Team is another of the World Tour newbies in 2022 and the newly formed women’s team joins the already hugely successful men’s setup. Dare bikes have enjoyed a rapid rise to the World Tour in its brief ten-year existence. The Norweigan team races with Dare’s MA-AFO, VSRu aero bike, and the TSRf TT bikes. The bikes are equipped with Shimano’s R9200 12 speed Dura-Ace Di2 groupset, DT Swiss wheels, Schwalbe tyres, and CeramicSpeed bearings and OSPW (Oversize Pulley Wheels) The bikes are completed with Prologo saddles and the team also lists Garmin and Wattshop as partners.

Bikes of the 2022 Tour de France: The best bikes in the world

Another lap of France is upon us, and there have been some exceptionally busy mechanics readying bikes for the best riders in the world. With one of the most exciting Tours about to begin, here is the complete list of what the men's teams will be using in 2022.

> Bikes of the 2022 Women's Pro Peloton

With the start of the 2022 Tour de France here and our excitement levels reaching the height of the Col du Galiber, it's time to take a look at what the teams will be riding for three weeks. Cinq, quatres, trois, deux, un...go!

AG2R Citroën Team: BMC

AG2R haven't changed much from the 2021 season and there's nothing special for the Tour which is surprising for a very French team. If it ain’t broke…

The BMC SLR 01 and TMR are both available to the AG2R Citroën riders, with the former being the all-rounder. Campag fans will be pleased to see the Record EPS Disc groupsets along with tubeless Bora Ultra WTO wheels. The team will use the 45 and 60mm depths mostly, and these are shod with Pirelli P-Zero Race TLR tyres.

Alpecin-Deceuninck 

Deceo...Dekuni...Deceuninck is back as a title sponsor having left Quick-Step. They've been gone just long enough for us to forget how to spell the name but the team has been constantly at the front of races, and it isn't just a one-man show.

Yep, VDP is here and he is aboard his Canyon Aeroad once again. Van der Poel is one of the faces of Shimano so he's riding a SRAM Red eTap...only joking, it is full Dura-Ace for the team, including the groupset and wheels.

But keep an eye out for a new Ultimate. We know they're floating around, but with the flat nature of the opening stages, we're unlikely to see it until the first summit finish.

Arkea-Samsic

Quintana is here and will likely focus on stage wins rather than the GC. Just like Alpecin, they're riding Canyon bikes, so it is the Aeroad and Ultimate for the French squad.

Like Alpecin, the team is also on the latest 12-speed Dura-Ace Di2 with matching Shimano wheels. Interestingly, however, while Alpecin look like they're on tubeless tyres, Arkea's riders seem to prefer tubulars. These are the Continental Competition Pro Ltd. Arcahic Arkea?

Astana Qazaqstan Team: Wilier

Wilier is still providing the bikes and the riders will have the Filante SLR and the 0 SLR to choose between. The bikes have been pictured with Dura-Ace R9100 groupsets, suggesting that Astana aren’t high up on the pecking order for the new stuff . The rear derailleur features a CeramicSpeed OSPW and wheel sponsor Corima has provided some very striking hoops in this pic, though we expect a more standard set to be used for races.

B&B Hotels

One team getting brand new bikes for the biggest race is B&B. Pierre Rolland will be on the hunt for polka points aboard a brand new KTM that we first spotted at the Criterium du Dauphine. 

The bike is an aero meets lightweight design that we've seen a lot of over the past few years. B&B build it up with DT Swiss wheels, a Shimano Dura-Ace 12-speed Di2 groupset and an integrated Vision front end. 

Hopefully we get to see Rolland in full polka dots with a polka dot bike later in the race.

Bahrain - Victorious: Merida

Bike sponsor Merida offers Bahrain - Victorious the Reacto and the Scultura for road stages, and this is another bike in this rundown with the R9200 Dura-Ace groupset. From the pictures that we’ve seen, the team looks to be pretty well stocked with the majority of riders on the new power meter too.

BORA - Hansgrohe: Specialized

The first of a few teams to be using the Specialized SL7, Bora has been treated to a shiny new paint job, but not a lot else.

The new Shimano Dura-Ace is present, and Roval returns with the Rapide CLX II wheels. Tyres are an interesting one and this is something that we’ll be keeping a close eye on.

The Roval wheels have gained a tubeless rim bed, so is a new tyre on the way from Specialized? Time will tell...

Cofidis: De Rosa 

No change for Cofidis. They’re still on DeRosa’s Merak and SK models with the former pictured. Campagnolo’s Super Record EPS Disc groupset takes care of shifting and braking, while an SRM head unit provides all of the rider’s data. Corima offers carbon tubular wheels with Michelin Power tyres. Vision takes care of front-end integration with its Metron bar/stem.

It might be a bit of a mishmash of brands, but we like it a lot.

EF Education-EasyPost: Cannondale 

Skateboard brand, Palace, is back for a collab with a very loud design that was painted by doktorbobby . The EF-EasyPost riders again have the SystemSix and SuperSix bikes at their disposal. Vision continues to supply the wheels and handlebars, while sister company FSA supplies the chainset with powermeter.

Prologo saddles and bar tape should keep the riders comfy, and all riders are on the new Dura-Ace.

Groupama - FDJ: Lapierre

The lovely Lapierre bikes of FDJ are back again in a gorgeous navy blue.

Away from the looks, the team is using a mix of new and old. Dura-Ace R9200 is present, as are the latest Shimano power meters, but the team is still on the old-style C40 and C60 wheelsets.

INEOS Grenadiers: Pinarello 

The Pinarello Dogma F of Ineos hasn't changed, but the team does have a new TT bike.

Shimano’s latest Dura-Ace is on pretty much every bike, and the team is using the latest editions of the Dura-Ace C40 and C60 wheels.

Just one frameset - the Dogma F - is available to the riders; but as race bikes go, that’s a pretty good one to have.

Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux: Cube 

Quite how neon yellow has made it all the way through to 2022 we’re not quite sure, but it is at least easy to spot.

The bikes of Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux (aaaannnd breathe) are supplied by Cube, with the new 2023 Lightning being the main road race option. The older 11-speed Shimano hints at the team’s status as one of the smaller World Tour setups, but it’s still a bike that we’d be happy to race on.

A CeramicSpeed OSPW system offers the potential for a small wattage saving, while one of the more interesting component choices is the wheelset. German brand Newmen provides the team with three depths of carbon wheels, and while the team was on tubular tyres last season, this bike looks to be a tubeless setup with Continental’s GP5000 S TR.

Israel - Premier Tech: Factor 

Factor’s Ostro VAM is again the bike of choice for the majority of road races that Israel - Premier Tech will be participating in, and the team will continue to use Black Inc wheels and a one-piece handlebar.

4iiii has departed and in comes Rotor as power meter supplier, resulting in new cranksets and chainrings. They even have ‘aero’ chainrings, which must make Alex Dowsett very happy.

SwissStop continues to supply the Catalyst rotors and RS34 disc pads, despite us speculating that ISN may return to Shimano when discussing Chris Froome's opinion on disc brakes again late last year. 

Lotto Soudal: Ridley

While Lotto are sticking with their Ridley Noah and Helium framesets, they’ve made a pretty big move elsewhere... Campagnolo is out and Shimano is in. 

We did see Caleb Ewan and Philippe Gilbert using modified shift lever setups, so the move might make it easier for the riders to shift gears when down in the drops, as Shimano offers its popular sprinter satellite shift buttons.

With Campagnolo departing Lotto also needed to find some new wheels to roll on, so in comes DT Swiss with Vittoria providing some lovely tan wall Corsa G2.0 tubulars.

Movistar Team: Canyon 

Movistar can do what it likes with their bikes, just as long as we get another season of the Netflix documentary. Canyon supplies the bikes, including the new Ultimate which we hope to see whel the race goes uphill and the Aeroad for the flatter stuff.

It’s SRAM Red eTap AXS taking care of shifting, braking and delivering power meter data too. That includes some pro-only chainring sizes to make the riders less dependant on the cassette’s 10T cog.

Zipp also continues with the team, offering the 303 NSW wheelset in tubular and tubeless forms. Fizik supplies saddles and bar tape while Continental tyres handle grip.

Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team: Specialized 

The S-Works SL7 has proven itself at the highest level, and this lovely frameset is decked out in the latest Shimano Dura-Ace R9200 groupset.

While lots of the team use the Roval Rapide aero handlebar, some riders instead opts for a Pro Vibe Superlight bar with the round tubes suggesting that aero isn’t everything for some riders.

Again, we see the Roval Rapide CLX II wheelset feature with the same unmarked Specialized tyres as we saw with Bora.

Team BikeExchange Jayco: Giant 

It's a brand new bike from Giant, but while we think it is a new Propel, we're not 100% sure.

The Propel and the TCR are the bikes that riders will be selecting from, and under the fast legs of Dylan Gronewegan, expect to see the new bike netting a win this year's race.

Wheels and finishing kit come from Giant, while Shimano provides the groupset. It’s Dura-Ace Di2 Disc, naturally, though that is an 11-speed crankset in the photo.

Team DSM: Scott 

The new bikes are coming thick and fast now with Scott launching the 2023 Foil earlier this week.

The new bike is faster, lighter and comfier according to Scott so we'll see if it can help their riders to some decent results. For the mountains, the riders also have the Addict.

Scott’s sub-brand Syncross provides the one-piece handlebar and the saddles. The only deviation from Scott and Shimano are the Vittoria tubeless tyres on the Shimano C38 wheels.

Team Jumbo-Visma: Cervelo 

Jumbo-Visma have been pretty happy since they moved over to Cervelo bikes, and the team still have use of the R5 and S5 models, though the S5 has been updated to take advantage of the latest UCI frame design rules.

The S5 features a proprietary front end and seatpost, but the R5 is a little more traditional and allows you to fit a slightly more standard front end. FSA provides the bar and stems with the R5 using FSA’s ACR headset system to route the cables through the headtube. Most riders on the R5 have been using a K-Force bar and stem for a clean and lightweight setup.

It’s another appearance for R9200 Dura-Ace, and Shimano provides the wheels too. Tyres are the Corsa G2.0.

TotalEnergies: Specialized 

With a certain Peter Sagan joining one of the most classically French teams ever, there were always going to be some big changes. Sagan is a rider of such stature that a brand like Specialized will follow him to whichever team he chooses. 

Like all of the other Specialized-sponsored teams, TotalEnergies is using the S-Works Tarmac SL and we think that this is possibly the nicest paint job of the lot with a lovely red fade.

Away from the paint, the bike has a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 groupset, but this is the older 11-speed model. The team uses Ceramic Speed jockey wheels, but not the oversized cage system. The bike above uses the Roval Rapide CLX II wheels and unreleased tubeless tyres from Specialized who also provide the Romin Mirror saddle. A Roval Rapide bar completes a very nice build.

Trek - Segafredo: Take a guess!

The clue is in the name, and Trek isn’t changing much about the Emonda and Domane bikes but you will find a brand new Madone that features some jazzy aero frame design features.

You’ll find Bontrager wheels, handlebars, saddles and bar tape along with Pirelli tyres. SRAM has been signed as groupset sponsor for another few years so once again, it’s wireless shifting and hydraulic disc brakes for Mollema and co. We bet he’s delighted...

UAE-Team Emirates: Colnago 

Defending champion Tadej Pogacar has a new bike to play with, but again, we're not sure on the name of this one. The bike is a lightweight design with obvious aero touches and we'd imagine that Pog can make it go quite quickly uphill, downhill and on the flat too.

Colnago still provides the V3Rs as the main bike for the UAE team and the Tour de France champion has been using disc brakes on and off for a couple of seasons now. With the bike remaining mostly unchanged aside from a switch from Vittoria to Pirelli for tyres, the big question will be as to whether Pogacar makes a permanent jump to disc brakes.

2022 WorldTour team kits: The definitive ranking

Which team has won the style battle this year?

The new team kits are here for the 2022 road season, so don't adjust your screens just yet to figure out which riders are lined out for those hotly-contested sprints. Most of the big teams are still identifiable with mainstay colours of yellow or red or blue, but there has been an influx of swirled patterns and saturated pigment mixtures to create a bit of visual chaos.

The staff at  Cyclingnews  have been getting sidetracked by looking at the pageantry of patterns and colour palettes on offer this season, and once again we've cast our judgemental eyes over all the men's WorldTour and Women's WorldTour teams' attire. 

The scores have been aggregated to produce a 'definitive' - yet subjective - ranking. There are a total of 32 teams across both WorldTours but, with some sharing kits between their men's and women's squads, there are a grand total of 28 to be sorted in order of quality.

Our ranking runs in reverse order, from rock-bottom number 28 right down to the 'best in show'. As ever, it's a game of opinions, so let us know your best and worst kits in the comments below.

28. Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux

The Belgian team start their second WorldTour season with a defence of their last-place ranking for team kits from 2021. They've repeated their look of ‘sponsor soup’ on the front of the jersey, giving a shout-out to all their corporate brands in horizontal fonts and logos. Gone are some blue and lime green accents that did stand out in the peloton, now replaced with some pale yellow and more white. Overall, it is very basic. (JBT)

27. Team DSM

What Team DSM's kit had going for it in 2021 was clear identification from above – their iconic pair of vertical stripes. That and their colourful logo worked well enough for the German team, so there are few changes aside from more logos on the upper chest. But a black kit in a summer sport is just murder, no matter the quality of the fabric, and from up close it's a bit cluttered. From the front, the dark kit will be confused with Movistar. (LW)

26. BikeExchange-Jayco (men)

I'm sorry but this is a real shocker. Something about the medium blue is just very unappealing. The kit brings to mind something from the late 90s and it instantly looks dated as a result. Black shorts and white sponsor logos might have helped but I didn't even have to think about putting this at the bottom of my ranking. DSM's kit is dull once again and Intermarché's is a plain sponsor billboard but I'm surprised that they've ranked below this, to be honest. (DO)

25. Liv Racing-Xstra

There are no significant changes to the Liv Racing jersey as the team stick to their black-and-purple floral design in 2022. The minor new design aspect includes the black pedal-like shape cascading over the left shoulder opposite the large flower positioned on the right, adding a bit more dimension. The team have also made space for new co-sponsor Xstra. The kit will at least stand out among the sea of pink in the peloton this year. (KF)

24. Bahrain Victorious

Bahrain Victorious have been searching for an identity since joining the WorldTour in 2017, going from simple to old-fashioned to way-too-bold and back to a simpler red design last year. The blue arm bands were the one saving grace that helped distinguish them from Arkéa-Samsic and Cofidis in head-on images. Their design is similar again, but with a ramping up of the graphical elements. They still have a way to go to land on a truly iconic design. (LW)

23. BikeExchange-Jayco (women)

The only positive thing that can be said about this kit is that it's better than the men's. (PF)

22. Roland Cogeas Edelweiss

It's still January and Roland Cogeas Edelweiss have already gone through several jersey re-dos, and while we aren't sure if this version has the final stamp of approval, we do know that the team will keep their signature red colour with a treatment of magenta into a navy blue fade for Women's WorldTour debut in 2022. Perhaps a lost opportunity not to have put an edelweiss, the white mountain flower, on the jersey somewhere. (KF)

21. QuickStep-AlphaVinyl

The Belgian team have had some classy kits over the years – 2018 and 2019 the latest – but this one doesn't stand out much. The pink trim is a nice and bright addition but otherwise it's quite an unremarkable offering. The ugly logos of Safety Jogger Shoes and Napoleon Sports & Games aren't pretty and clash with the design, but that's not on the kit designer. It's a bland offering in stark contrast to how the team race. (DO)

20. EF Education-EasyPost & EF Education-Tibco-SVB

We had to wait so long for these jerseys that we almost forgot about them. There's evidence of putting actual effort into the design there, with the argyle returning and some kind of distorted look going on, and that automatically puts it above the 'plain jersey, just add sponsors' approach of some. It's different and it will stand out but will the faint-looking sponsor logos do so on TV? (DO)

19. AG2R Citroën

The French WorldTeam plummets this year from a top-three position in 2021, mainly due to a lack of inspiration in its remodeled jerseys. The team keep the brown shorts they have worn since their redesign for 2011, and branding for sponsors AG2R La Mondiale and Citroën on the jerseys remain in diagonal position across the front of the jersey. They scored a few points for just being consistent, but came up empty on creativity. (JBT)

18. UAE Team Emirates

It's more of the same for UAE Team Emirates, who return with a virtually identical kit as they had last year. The concept – a white jersey with a red band, a UAE flag, and black and red sleeves – is straightforward enough, but the fade effect on the sleeves makes the kit rather fussier than it needs to be. 17. Astana Qazaqstan

No change for the Kazakh team, despite an off-season of change. Premier Tech are gone, Alexandr Vinokourov is back in the driving seat, but there’s no new jersey to mark the occasion. Instead, the Premier Tech logo has been replaced by the name of the country they represent which is now back in control of the team. More of the light blue and more of those diamonds – it’s classy enough, but a fade towards the shorts will cost you at this level. (PF)

16. Lotto Soudal

A familiar feel and a very safe offering from the Belgian team, who themselves are far from safe from WorldTour relegation. They've dialled things back from the last two years, where the black panel at the top of the jersey seemed to lend an edge to the look. Now the jersey is almost all red which, while stylish enough, feels very. forgettable. Mid-table in our ranking, which you sense they'd take. (PF)

15. Groupama-FDJ

Since their inception in 1997 as La Française des Jeux, Marc Madiot’s team have always been bedecked in one of the most elegant kits in the peloton, and the most recent iteration, which coincided with Groupama’s arrival as title sponsor four years ago, is no exception. There are no changes for 2022, with the familiar bleu-blanc-rouge colour scheme understated but distinctive. (BR)

14. UAE Team ADQ

The new kids on the block, UAE Team ADQ, burst on the scene with a unique team jersey. While they also jumped on the colour bandwagon with a cross-body fade of blue, purple, orange and yellow, it is different enough from the other Women’s WorldTour teams' apparel to be distinct. The accents of white on one sleeve and lower right portion of the jersey give this a nice pop. Too bad there is no crescendo on the shorts. (JBT)

13. Ineos Grenadiers

Thankfully, Ineos have taken the hood ornament off their chest and adopted a lighter 2022 kit that references the jerseys of the last two seasons – maintaining a sort of continuity. They've given the kit a fresh look, with red sleeves and their subtle faded triangles setting off the dark blue torso. The combination will work well from above and from the front, while they've also given Omar Fraile a great-looking Spanish champion's jersey. (LW)

12. Israel-Premier Tech

White and blue isn't the most eye-catching colour combination around, but this design is a big upgrade on past jerseys. I think that the geometric pattern is a stand-out, and you can also spot something similar going on in two other top jerseys – Euskaltel-Euskadi and Bora-Hansgrohe. Easily their best effort since the team were founded in 2015. (DO)

11. SD Worx

There was a parade of splashy patterns introduced to women’s kits this season, and SD Worx are part of that crowded scene, with a kaleidoscope of pink, red and purple. Interesting that the one yellow sleeve may be the most distinguishable feature to make it easy to identify riders in the peloton. They slipped a few notches in the redesign of the unique purple and red kits from 2021. (JBT)

10. Canyon-SRAM Racing

One of the highest-ranked kits last season for its midnight galaxy-inspired creation, Canyon-SRAM have been the trend-setters of abstract jersey designs that are moving to the fore in 2022. The switch from uber-cool Rapha to in-house Canyon clothing sponsor caused unnecessary apprehension, but their all-new 'chaos of the elements' design is one of the best pink jerseys in the peloton, with cascading pastel shades of crimson, pink and blue and stand-out mint green diamonds on the sleeves. The only question is which team did it better – Canyon-SRAM or their newly-launched development team Canyon-SRAM Generation? (KF)

9. Trek-Segafredo (men)

The men’s Trek-Segafrdo kit design is so simple and effective, it is almost iconic. A white jersey is a rarity in the near psychedelic modern peloton and so the title sponsor logos of Trek and Segafredo stand out without any competing colour noise. Meanwhile a limited number of minor sponsors keeps the jersey clean and tidy. The black shorts complete the retro-style look. The team have swapped fluorescent yellow for high-vis pink for their training kit but the simplicity and style remain the same. (SF)

8. Human Powered Health

The American team have changed title sponsor and their colours for 2022, following the trend for bright, fluorescent colours. They pull it off with a balanced fade from orange on the shoulders to purple at the waist and black shorts that have only a touch of the same colours. The addition of the ‘Boltman’ icon reminds me of Flash Gordon or some other superhero but also brings to mind a sense of speed and power. (SF)

7. Jumbo-Visma

Jumbo-Visma’s yellow and black colours appeared harsh when they first appeared in the peloton and earned the team the nickname of the ‘killer wasps’. Touches of red and green for new sponsors have softened the look and almost turned it into the infamous Jelly Belly jersey. However. it still stands out in the peloton and is not overbearing thanks to the black shorts and the class of the likes of Tom Dumoulin, Marianne Vos and Primož Roglič. (SF)

From zero to hero. Cofidis' kit was awful last year – it's been awful for a good few years – and suddenly they present us with this. Gone is that insipid shade of red and that soulless sea of white. In its place: red and white, but not as you know it. A few shades here, a few swishes and patterns there, and suddenly the red sings dynamism and the white screams elegance. Most importantly of all, gone are those awful all-red shorts, replaced by a simple black that serves the jersey far better. Big marks for the vertical sponsor and a few more for the full-length red zip. Some of my colleagues weren't quite so enthusiastic, which is why it's not higher on our ranking, but in my eyes this is a masterpiece. (PF)

5. Trek-Segafredo (women)

Trek-Segafredo had arguably the best kit in professional cycling last season, and while this year’s effort is not as idiosyncratic, it remains firmly among the more stylish in the peloton. The design, a white jersey with a light blue band, is simple, but neatly executed. At least half the teams in the men's and women's WorldTours should take note. (BR)

4. FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope

The French Women's WorldTeam have a history of clean, sharp-looking kits and this year is no exception. Moving from a mostly white jersey to a solid navy torso with white text and red faded accents preserves the iconic FDJ identity while giving the kit a bit of flair. With seemingly most women's teams opting for some variation of a bright orange, pink, or purple design, the FDJ team will stand out with their red, white and blue in its classic simplicity. (LW)

3. Uno-X Pro Cycling

It's a clutter-free design and it's more or less the same kit that the men's second-division team have worn since 2018, but the bright block colours and simplicity really work – especially with the team's black shorts. That colour combination will stand out during races, which is a rarity in the peloton where numerous teams follow similar trends every year. Similar to the likes of Jumbo-Visma, Trek-Segafredo and Lotto Soudal, it looks classic and modern at the same time. (DO)

2. Movistar

The Spanish squad have annually been moving away from a colour too similar to Astana to a darker blue, and this season they went for an even bolder choice. The colour makes the light-blue logo and horizontal lines pop much better than the white on blue and will be easy to spot from the helicopter shots. The repeat of the Movistar logo on the sleeves helps make their riders stand out in the head-on images. Kudos for keeping Jelena Erić's Serbian and Abner Gonzalez's Puerto Rican champion's jerseys simple. (LW)

1. Bora-Hansgrohe

While Bora-Hansgrohe have switched up their roster by showing Peter Sagan the door and signing Sam Bennett, Sergio Higuita and Aleksandr Vlasov, they have also upped their look for 2022. New is a predominantly green, black and red kit that has clearly been designed with style. The German team ha e switched from Sportful to Le Col and the new design recalls the Mondrian-inspired La Vie Claire jersey with a red box low down combining with the black and different green shades. Added to black shorts and green helmets, it's a classy look. (SF)

AG2R CITROEN: 3/10

Despite stringing together a series of high finishes in the early season stage races, last year’s breakout star Ben O’Connor failed to mount a Grand Tour GC bid to match his fourth-place from last year’s Tour de France. 

Instead, a Bob Jungels stage win at that race was their season highlight, while what little success they had elsewhere in the World Tour often came from Benoît Cosnfroy, who won GP de Québec and podiumed at Amstel Gold and Brabantse Pijl.  

ASTANA QAZAQSTAN: 1/10

With fewer wins than any other World Tour team, and only two of those managed outside of Asia, Astana’s miserable downward trajectory of recent years continues. 

Fourth overall at the Vuelta and Giro Miguel Ángel López and Vincenzo Nibali respectively were their only real performances of note, and with the latter retiring, they can only hope newly-crowned under-23 world champion Yevgeniy Fedorov helps spark life into this struggling team. 

BAHRAIN-VICTORIOUS: 7/10

At the start of the season, Bahrain-Victorious picked up where they left off from 2021, winning another monument though Matej Mohoric at Milan-San Remo, picking up another Grand Tour podium finish with Mikel Landa at the Giro, and many other big wins including Dylan Teuns at Flèche Wallonne. 

Things did tail off during the second half of the year results wise but Fred Wright's continued grit and determination in the face of a string of near misses served to endear the team to the fans and make him one of the squads best best performers.

BIKEEXCHANGE-JAYCO: 7/10

Despite having the threat of World Tour relegation hanging over them for much of the season until Michael Matthews landed them a haul of points with bronze at the World Championships, BikeExchange-Jayco enjoyed their most prolific season since 2019.

New signing Dylan Groenewegen proved to be a success in the sprints and Simon Yates was his usual self, and each contributed to the team winning stages in all three Grand Tours, although illness prevented Yates from doing well on GC in any of them.  

BORA-HANSGROHE: 9/10

Jai Hindley’s overall victory at the Giro d’Italia (the team’s first ever Grand Tour) was perhaps the greatest ever achievement for the German squad, and a landmark moment confirming that they are now one of the top stage race forces.

They also again managed to exceed 30 wins despite the departure of long-standing talisman Peter Sagan, largely thanks to the prolificity of Aleksandr Vlasov and Sergio Higuita in stage races, who respectively won the Tour de Romandie and Volta a Catalunya.  

COFIDIS: 5/10

Nineteen wins is a significant improvement on recent years for Cofidis, even if the vast majority did come in small French races. This was their first third season competing at World Tour level, but they still struggle to make an impact in it, with Jesus Herrada’s stage at the Vuelta and Ion Izagirre’s at Itzulia Basque Country their own victories in top-ranked races.  

The constant struggle to develop new talent in time to replace their trademark steady stream of riders heading for the exit continued to hinder DSM, who managed just ten wins.

This year’s top new discovery Thymen Arensman won a stage and finished sixth at the Vuelta España, having earlier made the podium at the Tour of Poland and Tour of the Alps, but he’s already moving on to Ineos Grenadiers; aside from his results, a Giro stage win for Alberto Dainese and Romain Bardet’s sixth overall at the Tour de France were the modest season highlights.  

EF EDUCATION-EASYPOST: 2/10

Managing less than ten wins this was the American team’s most disappointing season for a while. Of those wins, Magnus Cort’s at the Tour and Rigoberto Uran’s at the Vuelta were the highlights, but they also failed to feature prominently in the Grand Tour GC battles, with Uran and Carthy’s ninth-places at the Vuelta and Giro respectively the highest.  

Their bonkers Tour de France kit did some heavily lifting on the entertainment front though. 

GROUPAMA-FDJ: 6/10

Falling short of 20 wins for the first time since 2015, Groupama-FDJ weren’t quite as prolific as normal, though that total did include three stage wins at the Giro d’Italia by a resurgent Arnaud Demare.

Only fine margins prevented them from celebrating a stellar season, with Stefan Küng taking silver at the Worlds time trial and third at Paris-Roubaix, Valentin Madouas third at the Tour of Flanders, and David Gaudu finishing one spot short of a Tour de France podium.

INEOS GRENADIERS: 5/10

Despite the best efforts of Geraint Thomas (third at the Tour de France) and Richard Carapaz (second at the Giro d’Italia), Ineos Grenadiers failed to win a Grand Tour for the first time since 2014.

Despite that the wins kept coming (only three teams managed more, in fact), with Dylan van Baarle’s at Paris-Roubaix and Tom Pidcock on Alpe d'Huez the highlights, but even titles like Itzulia Basque Country (Dani Martínez), the Tour de Suisse (Thomas) and Amstel Gold (Michał Kwiatkowski) aren’t enough for a team with as high expectations as Ineos.  

The recent shuffling on the staff side of the team would seem to indicate not everyone is happy inside either.

INTERMARCHE-WANTY-GOBERT MATERIAUX: 8/10

Surely the most improved team of the year, the Belgian squad’s sophomore season in the World Tour saw them fully adapt to the elite level. They have a real star in Biniam Girmay, whose Gent Wevelgem win and Giro stage were their season highlights, but there were contributions throughout the team, from veteran Alexander Kristoff’s steady stream of wins and Quinten Herman’s Liège-Bastogne-Liège’s runner-up finish to Jan Hirt and Louis Meintjes’ Grand Tour top seven finishes.  

ISRAEL-PREMIER TECH: 2/10

Victims of the dreaded relegation under the new UCI system, Israel-Premier Tech suffered as age caught up to veterans Jakob Fuglsang, Michael Woods and Chris Froome. With new signing Giacomo Nizzolo also falling short of his normal sprinting form, even an excellent Tour de France (where Simon Clarke and Hugo Houle each landed surprise stage wins) was not enough to save them.  

JUMBO-VISMA: 10/10

The image of Christophe Laporte, Primož Roglič and Wout van Aert crossing the line together at the opening stage of Paris-Nice epitomised the dominance Jumbo-Visma enjoyed in 2022.

Those three riders were responsible for many of the team’s near-half century of victories, a haul that eclipses even last year’s tally of 43; and, most importantly of all, included the one they’ve wanted for years but that has always eluded them — the yellow jersey at the Tour de France, courtesy of Jonas Vingegaard.  

LOTTO-SOUDAL: 3/10

Hampered by Caleb Ewan’s crashes and injury problems, Lotto-Soudal were up against the threat of World Tour relegation all year. And despite the best efforts of young sprinter Araud De Lie, who was prolific in the minor classics, a lack of strength in depth and inability to get results in the big races saw them fail to avoid that fate.  

MOVISTAR: 4/10

A total of 18 wins was the team’s highest since 2019, but were confined mostly to small races; in fact, Carlos Verona’s stage win at Critérium du Dauphiné was the only one at World Tour level. There were several notable near misses though, with Enric Mas taking laudable runner-up finishes at both the Vuelta a España and Il Lombardia, and the retiring Alejandro Valverde podiuming at Strade Bianche and Flèche Wallonne as a reminder of how much the team will miss him.  

QUICKSTEP-ALHAVINYL: 9/10

Even if they weren’t quite as prolific as in recent seasons, the success of Fabio Jakobsen and Remco Evenepoel was still enough for Quick Step to once again finish the season with more wins than any other team. Evenepoel was the star, landing the team the World Championships road race, Liège–Bastogne–Liège and, most impressively of all, the Vuelta a España — the team’s first ever Grand Tour title, and the heralding of a new era. 

TREK-SEGAFREDO: 6/10

Trek-Segafredo are indebted to Mads Pedersen for his contribution this year, with his stage wins at the Vuelta a España, Tour de France and Paris-Nice, plus his strong showings during the spring classics, the highlights of their season. There was little to shout about from the other riders, but the Giro d’Italia was a success thanks to Giulio Ciconne’s stage win and Juan Pedro López’s run in the pink jersey.  

UAE TEAM EMIRATES: 9/10

Any team blessed with Tadej Pogačar isn’t going to be left wanting for success, and this year the Slovenian delivered Il Lombardia, Strade Bianche and Tirreno-Adriatico among many more victories.

It wasn’t just about Pogačar, though, and the team provided ample support for their superstar, while also enjoying success in his absence, with Alessandro Covi winning a stage at the Giro and both Marc Soler and Juan Sebastian Molano at the Vuelta, where Juan Ayuso also announced himself as another youthful prodigy with third overall.  

BEST OF THE REST

Once again, Alpecin-Deceuninck were by far the standouts of the non-World Tour teams. Only five teams managed more than their total of 30, a list that included multiple stage wins at each of the Grand Tours, and a monument courtesy of Mathieu van der Poel at the Tour of Flanders.

Despite the controversy surrounding Nairo Quintana’s positive tramadol test, it was also a successful season for Arkéa–Samsic , who are now poised to enter the World Tour thanks partly to the Colombian’s successes, and the smart way they targeted UCI points throughout the season.  

Norwegian team Uno-X were a breath of fresh air and some bright young talents in Tobias Johannessen and Rasmus Tiller, while TotalEnergies managed to win 15 races despite star man Peter Sagan seeming to be past his best.

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.
