UAE VISA EXEMPTION
UAE immigration refers to VISA-EXEMPTION as VISA ON ARRIVAL. But you will not fill out any forms, pay any fee or receive any visa sticker or print. When you arrive at the airport, you will head straight to the immigration and present your passport. You will be stamped and given entry. Therefore, in my opinion, it’s a VISA EXEMPTION and hence we will refer to it as a VISA EXEMPTION.
Entry permission
30 to 180 days depending on the nationality.
Documents to carry
All you need is your passport.

UAE or DUBAI TOURIST VISA
A UAE or Dubai tourist visa can only be applied through a UAE-based sponsor or an authorized agent. A sponsor can be a UAE-based airline, UAE-based hotel, UAE national or resident, UAE-based company or government entity or a UAE-based tour operator.
The sponsor is responsible for your actions in the UAE. If you overstay your visa, the sponsor is held responsible and will face consequences by the government of UAE.
Why do you need a sponsor for a UAE tourist visa?
A UAE-based sponsor is mandatory for all UAE tourist visas. Your sponsor is responsible for all your actions while you are in the UAE. They must make sure you leave the country in time without overstaying your visa. If you don’t know anyone personally in the UAE, you can use either your airline, hotel or tour agent for your visa processing.
It’s silly to still use sponsors in this day and age. The sponsor model is an old model and many countries are moving away from such ways of visa processing. But countries such as UAE, Singapore, etc. are still stuck with this visa model.
Which sponsor or agent should you use for your UAE tourist visa?
If you don’t have a sponsor, you can use a UAE-authorized agent to apply for your UAE tourist visa. There are a bazillion agents these days processing UAE tourist visas, including VFS Global.
Thanks to the internet, you can apply for a UAE tourist visa through an agent completely online in the comfort of your home. All you need is a scanned copy of your Passport ID page and a digital passport-size photo.
The fee, documentation and processing time vary by agent. Local agents in your country are usually cheaper but you must do your due diligence on their authenticity, hidden charges and processing time before applying through them.
Which agent do I recommend for a UAE visit visa?
My preferred agent for UAE or Dubai tourist visas is Etihad Airways. I usually prefer a reputed international agent, so I went with Etihad Airways. They only act as an agent for your visa and you don’t have to fly with Etihad Airways. You can fly with any budget airline and travel to/from any international airport in the UAE.
Other agents that you can use and their fee for a UAE 30-day single-entry tourist visa is below.
My preferred agent
- Etihad Airways | 361 AED | Few hours | No security deposit
UAE based agents
- Arabiers | 359 AED | 24-48 hours
- Sharjah Airport Travel Agency (SATA) | 335 AED
India based agents
- MakeMyTrip | Approx. 311 AED | 7-9 days
IMPORTANT Some agents will charge a security deposit which will be refunded to you on your exit from the UAE. So do your due diligence before applying for your UAE tourist visa with any of the above agents.
I have a detailed article on how to apply for a UAE or Dubai tourist visa online with Etihad Airways. Follow the article for step-by-step instructions on how to apply for your UAE tourist visa.
What types of UAE tourist visas are available?
Below are some of the different types of tourist visas available.
- 30-day single-entry tourist visa
- 90-day single-entry tourist visa
- 30-day multiple-entry tourist visa
- 90-day multiple-entry tourist visa
- Long-term tourist visa
Most tourists usually need a 30-day single-entry tourist visa. It’s also the cheapest of all types of tourist visas. The procedure to apply for any of the above types of visas is pretty much the same, except for the fee.
Validity of UAE visit visa
All UAE tourist visas are valid for 60 days within which you must enter the UAE. Then depending on your visa, you will be given that many days of permission to stay in the UAE.
For example, if you hold a 30-day single-entry tourist visa, your visa will be valid for 60 days. You can enter the UAE anytime within that 60 days. When you enter, immigration will give you 30 days to stay in the UAE.
When to apply for your Dubai visit visa
You can apply for your UAE visit visa as early as possible. But apply at least 5 working days prior to your trip. Processing can take time and some agents require up to 10 working days to process.
How long can you stay in the UAE with a tourist visa
You can stay up to 30 days or 90 days depending on your visa. You can also extend the visas within the UAE for an additional 30 days or 90 days.
Documents required for UAE tourist visa
Usually, you will need the following documents.
- A scan of your passport ID page
- A recent colored digital photo
- A copy of your flight ticket

ENTRY AND EXIT PROCEDURE AT THE AIRPORT
Entering the UAE by air
After you arrive at the airport, walk towards passport control and baggage claim.
If you hold an Indian passport and are planning to obtain a UAE Visa on Arrival, head to the following visa agent desk for your Visa on Arrival process. Once your Visa on Arrival is processed head to the immigration.
- Sharjah Airport: SATA
- Dubai Airport: Marhaba Services
- Abu Dhabi: There are agents involved for Abu Dhabi airport, so head straight to the immigration
At the immigration, present your passport, boarding pass and Visa on Arrival fee receipt (if you hold an India passport and obtained Visa on Arrival) or your Dubai visit visa print.
The officers may ask you a few questions about your trip such as whether it’s your first time in UAE, how long you will stay, etc. You may be asked to show your return/onward ticket and your hotel booking.
If you are traveling on a one-way ticket, you can use OnwardTicket to get proof of an onward ticket.
Leaving UAE by air
UAE airports have automated passport controls when leaving the country. You will simply arrive at one of the automated passport control kiosks, scan your passport and follow the voice instructions. When the voice says move forward and face the camera, you will do so. Then the exit gate will open and you will exit. No exit stamp is given.
If you are having any issues with automated passport controls, you will be sent to a manned passport control counter.
A UAE or Dubai tourist visa is not required for 0ver 70 nationalities. Other nationalities must obtain a prearranged UAE tourist visa through a UAE-based sponsor or authorized agent.
All UAE or Dubai tourist visas are e-visas. You can apply online with your preferred agent and receive the e-visa in the email.
Indian nationals with a valid US visa or a residence permit from the US, UK or EU can get a Visa on Arrival at all international airports.

Difference Between Visit Visa and Tourist Visa in Dubai

As the enticing beauty of Dubai's skyscrapers and grandeur attracts visitors from around the world, the topic of visa requirements frequently arises. There are two regular visa options available for those who are willing to explore Dubai. The difference between a visit visa and a tourist visa in Dubai depends on the traveler’s intention and the duration of stay. In this blog, we will delve into everything you need to know about a UAE Visit Visa Process and a tourist visa.
Table of Contents
What is a visit visa in dubai, what is a dubai tourist visa.
- Conditions and Eligibility
- Influence on Traveler's Purpose and Engagements
Employment and Business Opportunities
Stay extensions and renewal, duration and fees of visit visa and tourist visa, hospitality and luxury.
A visit visa is a versatile visa option that caters to a broad range of reasons like exploring business opportunities, seeking medical attention, visiting family, and attending meetings. This visa is available for 30 days and 60 days depending on the traveler’s requirements. A visit visa gives the opportunity to visitors to participate in a variety of activities during their stay.
A Dubai tourist visa is a visa that’s specially designed for tourism alone. A tourist who is willing to go sightseeing, and explore the natural beauty of Dubai can opt for this visa. This visa is valid for a shorter period of 14 to 30 days. A Dubai tourist visa encourages visitors to plan their short stay to visit iconic landmarks, and cultural sites, and experience the vibrant essence of Dubai.
Conditions and Eligibility Criteria for Visit Visa and Tourist Visa in the Dubai
The conditions and eligibility criteria for the visit visa and tourist visa are distinguished and represent their specific reason for travel. A visit visa, which is intended for a broader range of activities, imposes fewer restrictions and permits multiple entries. On the other hand, a Dubai tourist visa is primarily aimed at visitors on vacation and usually allows only one entry. And when it comes to sponsorship, a visit visa may require a sponsorship from a Dubai resident but a tourist visa doesn't.
The Application Process for Visit Visa and Tourist Visa in the Dubai
Applying for both a Visit Visa and a tourist visa is a streamlined process that involves online application, embassy submissions, and travel agency assistance in some cases. While applying for a visit visa or a tourist visa, an applicant has to submit documents like personal information, passport details, some proof of accommodation, a financial statement, and an invitation letter. An invitation letter might be required for a visit visa applicant while a proof of financial statement is mandatory for a tourist visa applicant. Applying for a tourist visa can also be done through direct airlines and licensed travel agencies.
Influence on Traveler's Purpose and Engagements:
Due to the visit visa's multiple-entry feature, gives travelers flexibility in their travel plans and interests. This enables them to pursue a broader range of interests and participate in a variety of activities without being limited by a single entry restriction. Visit visas also cater to a broader range of traveler purposes beyond leisure tourism, allowing them to pursue specific goals such as business ventures, meetings, family visits, or medical treatment.
As a result, visit visas draw a wider range of travelers, enriching the cultural landscape of Dubai and contributing to tourism and some other economic growth too.
Dubai Tourist Visa
Regardless of the shorter period of a tourist visa compared to a Visit Visa, tourist visas enable visitors to immerse themselves in the country's rich cultural heritage, captivating landscapes, and vibrant bustling cities, allowing for a more exciting travel experience.
The emphasis on leisure activities lines up with Dubai's efforts to foster luxury tourism. Tourist visas help to develop the hospitality industry by creating job openings and driving economic growth in the travel and tourism industry.
Visit visa not only enhances the tourism industry but also opens the door to employment and business opportunities. Travelers who come on visit visas have the opportunity to explore more than tourist visa holders. This way, during their stay, visitors with a visit visa may be able to attend job interviews, seek business partnerships, or explore career options in Dubai. In case the visit visa holder finds a suitable job within this period, he/she can also convert their visa to a work visa.
All these possibilities are open only for visit visa holders while the Tourist visa emphasis remains on tourism, leisure, and sightseeing, with visitors limited from engaging in any type of work or professional commitments during their stay.
Extensions and renewals of visit and tourist visas in Dubai differ concerning feasibility and process.
Visit visas offer greater flexibility for extensions, permitting longer stays through renewals or extensions at immigration offices within Dubai. Individuals under visit visas can often transition to other visa types or seek employment opportunities, subject to visa change regulations.
Conversely, tourist visas are generally less flexible regarding extensions or renewals. Renewal possibilities are limited, often requiring exiting the country and reapplying for a new tourist visa after the expiration of the current one. Such restrictions aim to maintain the primary tourist-focused nature of the visa.
Visit visas are frequently issued for a longer duration of time from 30 days up to 60 days and with varying fee structures based on the length of stay. The fees may vary depending on the duration of the visa, sponsorship, and the purpose of the visit. These visa types provide duration flexibility, allowing for short-term or extended stays based on the needs of the traveler.
Tourist visas, which are more focused on tourism, typically have set durations and fee structures. Tourist visa fees are standardized for shorter periods, promoting tourism experiences within a limited period and cost.
Ras al Khaimah has a track record for top-notch hospitality. Ras al Khaimah offers an array of accommodation alternatives that ensure each tourist has the best luxury and service. From overwater villas to desert retreats, each emirate's luxurious resorts and hotels offer a unique fusion of elegance and Emirati hospitality.
Understanding the difference between a Visit Visa and a Tourist Visa is crucial to experience a remarkable tour of Dubai. The visit visa has greater versatility, facilitating purposes such as business, family visits, medical treatments, and corporate meetings. The tourist visa, on the other hand, is specifically designed for leisure and tourism activities, granting a shorter-duration stay focused solely on exploring popular tourist destinations in Dubai.
Now that you are aware of the visit visa and tourist visa, it’s time to make an informed decision on the purpose of your travel so that you can set on a journey tailored to your unique aspirations, transforming your travel dreams into unforgettable experiences.

The passport validity required to avail of the UAE visa amnesty programme has been reduced from six months to one month, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) announced on Tuesday.
Maj-Gen Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, ICP director-general, said the amendment “will enable violators to amend their status without the need to renew their passports if their validity period is less than six months as was the case before the issuance of the new decision. This will allow violators to overcome the challenge related to the long period of time required to renew passports through the embassies present in the country."
Al Khaili added the decision will encourage visa violators “to amend their status and take advantage of the two-month amnesty programme which runs until October 31".

Launched on September 1 , the amnesty is aimed at “ amending the status of the violator – either by leaving the country without the entry ban stamp or obtaining a job opportunity and remaining in the country with the appropriate visa.
Al Khaili called on violators “to contact the ICP call centre and raise their questions and inquiries and identify the challenges they face for the authority’s concerned team to study and find solutions for them".
