How to watch the Tour de France on TV or live streaming for free

The 2024 Tour de France will be aired for free in Australia on SBS on Demand , in the UK by ITV4 , and in Wales by S4C .

If you live or are on holiday in any of these countries then enjoy the month of racing with no subscription fees to pay. NBC hold the broadcasting rights for the Tour de France in the USA. The race will be broadcast live on NBC, as well as the network's streaming service, Peacock TV .

In Australia, national broadcaster SBS will carry live Tour de France coverage.

For a local feel and full French-language coverage of the race, head to France TV Around Europe, broadcasters include ARD in Germany, Sporza and RTBF in Belgium, Rai in Italy, and RTVE in Spain.

Tour de France to air on German public television for first time in four years

German public broadcaster ARD will show live coverage of the Tour, but will cut the race again should more doping cases surface

Marcel Kittel wins Stage 21 of the 2014 Tour de France from Alexander Kristoff and Ramunas Navardauskas

German television channel ARD , is set to announce that it will show the Tour de France for the at least the next two years according to Der Spiegel , making it the first time cycling's biggest race will appear on German public TV since 2011.

The Tour was initially dropped from free-to-air broadcast due to dwindling ratings and a flurry of doping controversies involving top German riders, but now ARD is said to have acquired the rights to the race for less than five million euros.

The channel has however, reportedly tied a clause into its contract that allows for the broadcast to be cut should more doping cases arise.

German cycling has enjoyed rejuvinated success in recent times with a number of riders, including Tony Martin, John Degenkold, Marcel Kittel and André Greipel all recording top level results, as well as the first three of those riders all visibly supporting by signing the draft of a proposed law that would make doping a criminal offence in Germany .

Kittel, who begins his season at the Tour Down Under in January as he builds up to the Tour de France in July, told FAZ.net that cycling will always been as suspicious as long as people associated with doping continue to work in the sport.

"People like [Alexander Vinkourov and Bjarne Riis] contribute to the fact that to this day, cycling is permanently seen as suspicious," Kittel said.

Mikel has a lot of experience, as do many of our riders, and together they make for quite a strong and balanced team. Looking on the parcours, I think you can easily say this will be one of the toughest editions in recent years. The start is very hard, we have some big climbs early in the race followed by that gravel stage, and then the second and third week will be very demanding. We need to be focused and at the top of our game to get some good results, and we are confident in this team and what it can do this July."

Tour de France attracts 41.5m viewers for France Télévisions

Public service broadcaster lands biggest audience for cycling grand tour since 2011..

• Four race stages on France Télévisions exceed 5m viewers, up from two in 2021
• Tour de France Femmes’ opening stage scores 3m viewers on France 2

This year’s edition of cycling’s Tour de France pulled in 41.5 million viewers on French public service broadcaster France Télévisions (FTV).

The figure is the biggest Tour de France audience for the network’s main channel since 2011.

Four race stages on FTV exceeded five million viewers, compared to two in 2021. Of that, 6.4 million watched the Briançon-Alpe d’Huez stage, marking the biggest audience for the stage since 2003.

FTV added that viewers watched an average of five hours and 41 minutes of the Grand Tour, which was 17 minutes more than in 2021 and the highest since 2011.

The broadcaster also drew an average of four million viewers for coverage on its FTV2 channel and 2.5 million on FTV3, representing an audience share of 41.3 per cent and 24.3 per cent respectively.

In Germany, an average of 1.2 million viewers watched the Tour de France on ARD, handing the public broadcaster an audience share of 11 per cent. This was up 9.8 per cent on last year’s audience of just over 1.1 million. An additional 279,000 tuned in on ARD’s One channel.

The event’s ninth stage drew the largest viewership for ARD with 1.7 million, representing a 12.5 per cent share.

The broadcaster’s Sportschau streaming platform amassed 11 million viewers, which ARD said was more than twice as many for the 2021 edition.

As the Tour de France wrapped up, the start of the returning women’s Tour de France Femmes saw three million viewers watch on FTV2, securing the channel a 27.8 per cent audience share on the afternoon of 24 th July.

Kommentator bei Eurosport ist Karsten Migels, dessen Buch “Zum Teufel mit der Flamme Rouge” beim Delius Klasing Verlag erhältlich ist . In der ersten Rennwoche stehen dem Team die Ex-Profis Robert Bengsch und Bernhard Eisel als Experten zur Seite. Der 17-malige Tour-Teilnehmer Jens Voigt wird in dieser Zeit einmal mehr auf dem Begleitmotorrad Platz nehmen und liefert den Eurosport-Zuschauern Einblicke aus dem Peloton. Ab der zweiten Woche ist Voigt dann an Stelle von Robert Bengsch im Kommentar zu hören. Birgit Hasselbusch ist für die Informationen abseits des Renngeschehens verantwortlich und versorgt das Publikum mit Wissenswertem zu Land und Leuten.

Eurosport bietet zudem ein ganz besonderes Schmankerl für Radsport-Fans: den Velo Club, den es im letzten Jahr bereits gab. In einer halbstündigen Analyse-Show begrüßt Moderator David Marcour Gäste wie Jan Ullrich oder Tony Martin live im Studio und bespricht mit ihnen die Etappen der Tour de France nochmal en Detail.

Verkehrsbehinderungen erwartet Tour de France Femmes führt heute durch Lothringen

Die Tour de France Femmes ist heute ganz nah am Saarland – das Ziel der fünften Etappe liegt in Amnéville. Wer das Radrennen live erleben will, hat an dem Tag also eine gute Gelegenheit dazu. Interessierte sollten den Besuch aber im Vorfeld planen, rund um das Event sind einige Straßen und auch Parkplätze gesperrt.

Am Montag ist die Tour de France Femmes gestartet – zum ersten Mal nicht in Frankreich, sondern in den Niederlanden. Noch bis Sonntag fahren die Radsportlerinnen um den Sieg. Saarländerinnen und Saarländer, die sich das Radspektakel einmal live anschauen wollen, können das am besten am Donnerstag, denn da sind die Profis ganz in der Nähe unterwegs: Ziel der fünften Etappe ist in Amnéville.

Anreise planen – Straßen und Parkplätze sind gesperrt

Zuvor werden die Fahrerinnen rund 150 Kilometer auf der Etappe von Bastogne in Belgien bis zur Stadt nördlich von Metz zurücklegen. Es ist eine Flachetappe – die unterwegs allerdings ein paar kurze, knackige Anstiege aufweist . Amnéville ist nur rund eine Stunde von Saarbrücken entfernt.

Die Radsport-Fans sollten aber rechtzeitig und mit ein bisschen Vorplanung anreisen, da sich Autofahrer auf Verkehrsbehinderungen entlang der Strecke einstellen müssen. Das hatte die Präfektur in Metz im Vorfeld mitgeteilt.

Teilweise werden auch schon am Mittwoch, 14.08.2024, Durchfahrten oder Parkplätze gesperrt. Betroffen sind Amnéville, Rombas, Rémiremont, Hagondange und andere Städte. Zudem weist die Präfektur darauf hin, dass Zuschauer sich von der Fahrbahn fernzuhalten haben und Tiere an der Leine führen sollen.

Titelverteidigerin Vollering ist die große Favoritin

Die Neuauflage der Tour de France der Frauen geht in diesem Jahr in ihre dritte Auflage. Topfavoritin ist die Titelverteidigerin Demi Vollering aus den Niederlanden – für deutsche Erfolge könnte unter anderem Liane Lippert sorgen, die bereits im vergangenen Jahr einen Etappensieg feierte und auch in diesem Jahr schon beim Giro d'Italia Donne erfolgreich war.

Deutschland Tour 2024 mit Ziel in Saarbrücken live bei ARD und ZDF

ARD-Berichterstattung unter Federführung des Saarländischen Rundfunks (SR) im Fernsehen und Radio, Online und auf Social Media

Die Radsport-Höhepunkte folgen in diesem Sommer Schlag auf Schlag: Zehn Tage nach den Olympischen Spielen in Paris und kurz nach der Tour de France Femmes startet am 21. August wieder die Deutschland Tour live bei ARD und ZDF. Die Öffentlich-Rechtlichen berichten von Mittwoch, 21. August, bis Sonntag, 25. August, wieder täglich live von der Deutschland Tour der Radprofis. In diesem Jahr startet das Rennen in Schweinfurt und führt im Schlussabschnitt in die saarländische Landeshauptstadt Saarbrücken.

„Das erfahrene Radsport-Team des Saarländischen Rundfunks übernimmt nach der Tour de France auch wieder die Federführung für die ARD bei der Deutschland Tour“, erklärt SR-Intendant Martin Grasmück. „Das große und weiter wachsende Publikumsinteresse in der ARD für die Tour-de-France-Berichterstattung wird sich sicherlich auf die Deutschland Tour übertragen. Für den SR ist die Schlussetappe mit Ziel in Saarbrücken ein Heimspiel. Die Begeisterung im Saarland für den Radsport ist bekanntlich riesig. Viele Saarländerinnen und Saarländer werden die Zielankunft verfolgen und die Radprofis gebührend empfangen."

Das ZDF berichtet live über die erste Etappe der Deutschland Tour von Schweinfurt nach Heilbronn sowie über die dritte Etappe von Schwäbisch Gmünd bis Villingen-Schwenningen. Die ARD sendet live im Ersten und in der ARD Mediathek von der zweiten Etappe (Heilbronn – Schwäbisch Gmünd) und von der Schluss-Etappe von Annweiler am Trifels mit Ziel in Saarbrücken. Zum ersten Mal seit über 20 Jahren ist die saarländische Landeshauptstadt wieder Zielort eines Radrennens: Bereits 2003 endete die Deutschland Tour in Saarbrücken ebenso wie eine Etappe der Tour de France im Jahr 2002. Der Prolog der Deutschland Tour 2024 in Schweinfurt am Mittwoch, 21. August, wird live im BR Fernsehen und in der ARD Mediathek gezeigt, präsentiert von Markus Othmer. Michael Antwerpes moderiert die Übertragungen im Ersten, ARD-Kommentator ist Florian Naß. Reporter für den ARD-Hörfunk sind Holger Gerska und Matthew Genest-Schön. Als Experte unterstützt Rick Zabel die Berichterstattung auf Social Media.

Die erste und dritte Etappe bei "sportstudio live" im ZDF präsentiert Moderator Florian Zschiedrich, als Experte ist der ehemalige Radrennfahrer Marcel Kittel dabei. Die Rennen kommentiert ZDF-Reporter Michael Pfeffer.
