What are Disney Cruise Port Adventures?

“Port Adventures” is the name Disney uses for organized off-ship activities. You can always leave the ship for free when it’s in port, and there’s never any charge to explore on your own. A Port Adventure is an optional paid experience that offers a bit more structure to your time on shore.

Whatever you’re looking for — invigorating or relaxing, cultural or touristy, complex or simple, short or long — odds are you’ll find it offered as a Disney Cruise Port Adventure.

How Much are Shore Excursions in the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Bermuda?

There’s a Port Adventure for every budget. You can spend about $18 to rent a two-seater paddle boat at Castaway Cay — or you can charter a private fishing vessel for the day in Tortola, British Virgin Islands for $6,599.

Don’t let the priciest options scare you away. Many excursions fall well below $100 per-person and are quite reasonable.

We checked prices of all excursions Disney Cruise Line offered in the Bahamas, Caribbean, and Bermuda at the time we wrote this article, and here’s what we found:

  • $1 – $49: 103 options
  • $50 – $99: 303 options
  • $100 – $199: 186 options
  • $200 and up: 110 options

There are plenty of great options at each of the price points, and you don’t certainly don’t have to spend a huge amount to have a good time.

If you don’t mind splurging just a little, we’ve found that $125-$250 per person should be enough to buy you a truly unforgettable port adventure in the area. Though you likely wouldn’t want to spend this much in every port, it’s worth considering at least once during your cruise. And you can take heart in knowing that excursion prices in this part of the world are much more affordable than, say, Disney Cruise excursions in Alaska or European cruise excursions.

How to Get Free Excursions on a Disney Cruise

Port Adventures are not included in the cost of your Disney Cruise , but you can still get them for free if you know how.

Book your cruise through a Disney travel agent to earn Onboard Credit  for excursions and other purchases during your cruise.

The Vacationeer offers up to $1,000 in Onboard Credit when you book your cruise through them.

Your cruise won’t cost any more than if you’d booked it yourself , and they don’t charge any planning fees .

When Do You Pay for Disney Cruise Port Adventures?

In most cases, charges for your shore excursion are applied through your shipboard account; you won’t actually pay until you settle your account at the end of your cruise. That’s great news if you’re have an onboard credit from your travel agent, because it means you can use that “free money” toward your excursions.

Now, on to our list.

We’ve picked some of the best offerings at multiple ports and across different price points.

Prices shown are per person unless indicated otherwise. Some offerings may be limited to certain itineraries or times of year.

There are many more offerings and plenty of additional ports. So if you see something that looks almost perfect, you can check out the full list of Port Adventures to find similar offerings with different options, prices, and locations.

Castaway Cay — Best Port Adventures

A Disney Cruise Ship docked in the crystal waters of Castaway Cay

As Disney’s own private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay offers an exclusive Bahamian hideaway that’s open only to one Disney cruise ship a day — and no one else! There’s plenty to do for free on the island, but also a wide array of optional paid activities.

Bicycle Rentals (C04)

One of the most popular and cost-effective ways to explore Castaway Cay. Enjoy a one-hour bike rental as you explore nature paths and offshore terrain. Ride along the island’s historic (and historically dubious) airstrip and wheel your way to the observation tower for an elevated view of Disney’s Private Island.

Activity Level: Active

Cost: $13 for ages 10+ $13 for ages 3-9 Rates are per bike, per hour

Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure (C13)

Enter the shallow stingray lagoon for an up-close encounter. Using a specially-designed feeding ramp and tray, your guide will show you how to place food just right in your hand to allow a stingray to glide over and gobble up their meal. You’ll also have a chance to pet one of these beautiful, often misunderstood creatures. Then, grab your snorkel to observe 60+ stingrays in a beautiful lagoon. Concerned about safety? Stingrays have no teeth, and Castaway Cay keeps its captive stingrays’ barbs safely (and humanely) trimmed.

Activity Level: Moderate

Requirements: Ages 5+ (ages 5-16 with adult 18+)

Cost: $56 for ages 10+ $45 for ages 5-9

Glass Bottom Boat Scenic Voyage (C11)

Did you know Castaway Cay has a barrier reef? Board a glass bottom boat for a voyage beyond the protected lagoon out to the undeveloped north side of the island. You’ll stay dry as you look down through bottom-mounted windows to discover tropical fish, sea creatures, and the coral reefs that protect the island.

Parasailing (C08)

Meet and mingle with fellow cruisers as you’re divided into groups and board separate boats. Soon, it will be your turn to experience an unforgettable beauty parasailing flight 600-800 feet in the air. You’ll enjoy about 5-7 minutes of flight time before being gently pulled back down to the boat.

Requirements: Ages 8+ (under age 13 must fly with adult age 18+). Age 13-19 must check in with parent/guardian. Must weigh 90-375 pounds. Tandem riders max 375 pounds combined. Tandem ride may be required.

Start with a 60-minute drive to a private nature reserve, observing the island’s karst (dissolving limestone) landscape in an area that was once the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. Upon arrival, don your protective gear and hike through an untouched jungle while learning about the Taíno people. Then, climb down into a cave for a hands-on geology lesson. After that, it’s time for Body Rafting, floating downstream by underground springs. Take a brief rest at a traditional mountain cottage until it’s time to head back to your Disney cruise ship.

Requirements: Ages 10+. Special clothing requirements apply.

Cost: $289 for ages 10+

Do I Have to Book Port Adventures Through Disney?

You don’t have to book your excursions through Disney Cruise Line, but you probably should.

Shore excursions are operated by outside companies which contract with Disney. And it’s true many of them offer a substantially similar experience — often at a lower price — when booked independently. And virtually every port has information booths right outside the dock where you can book experiences directly.

So why “waste money” booking through Disney? There are a few reasons:

Peace of mind

If you’ve booked through Disney, they’ll keep track of your experience from start to finish. This is critical if the excursion run late. Disney will hold the ship to allow straggling tours to return — or pay for you to catch up to the ship at the next port-of-call. If you booked on your own, then you’re on your own.

Flexible Payment and Refunds

Port Adventures booked through Disney are charged to your shipboard account and paid at the end of your cruise. Payment for privately-booked tours is often due in full at the time they’re reserved. Disney’s excursions are also usually fully refundable up until three days before your cruise. Privately-booked excursions might have stricter rules or simply be nonrefundable.

Automatic Adjustments

Excursions booked through Disney Cruises are exclusive to Disney passengers, so there’s no worry if the ship’s schedule changes. If the ship arrives in port late, the tour won’t start without you.

If the ship’s scheduled day in port changes, your tour will be automatically adjusted, too. And if the ship has to completely miss a port for some reason, you won’t have to pay for any excursions booked there.

Extra Magic

Not that it’s a crucial part of the experience, but Disney often nudges its tour providers into providing a few extra touches on their Disney Cruise excursions.

For all of these reasons, it’s often best for you or your travel agent to book your excursions directly through Disney Cruise Line.

Disney Cruise Port Adventure FAQs

Do disney cruises visit disney world.

It’s very rare for a Disney Cruise to directly include time at Walt Disney World. In the past, Disney Cruises from New York visited Port Canaveral and included a one-day Disney world ticket. But that hasn’t been the case for a few years.

You can, however, easily add a Disney World visit immediately before or after your Disney Cruise from Florida . It won’t be included in the cost of your cruise , but you can’t argue with the proximity and convenience.

Disney Cruise Line’s primary home port is Port Canaveral , about 60 miles from Disney World. Orlando International Airport services both destinations. The Disney Cruise shuttle service transports guests between the port, the airport, and Disney World.

Your Disney Travel Agent can help you price out the cost of adding some Disney World time to your Disney Cruise.

Can You Book Excursions Once You’re Onboard?

Port Adventures can be booked onboard the ship, subject to availability. Each ship has a Port Adventures desk.

Do Disney Cruise Excursions Sell Out?

Yes, it’s common for the more popular excursions to sell out well in advance. For the best chance at getting what you want, book as early as possible. There’s no wait list, but you can keep checking to see if space becomes available.

When Can You Book Disney Shore Excursions?

For those cruising with Disney for the first time , Port Adventures can be booked 75 days prior to your sail date. The booking window opens very early — midnight Eastern Time. Your cruise must be paid in full before you can book.

Repeat passengers get an early booking advantage that varies based on Castaway Club level (the number of times they’ve cruised with Disney).

Are Port Adventures Always Guided Tours?

Port Adventures take many forms, and not all of them have tour guides. A few examples include hiring a private vehicle, renting water trikes, chartering boats, or purchasing admission to local attractions.

Are Disney Cruise Excursions Wheelchair Accessible?

Disney’s cruise ships are easily accessible to those using wheelchairs, but the accessibility of experiences offered in ports-of-call can vary. It’s easy to forget that ADA regulations apply only to the United States — it’s the Americans with Disabilities Act — so it can be a bit of a shock when you arrive in another country and find that some areas are not as accessible as one might hope.

That said, Disney now partners with Accessible Travel Solutions to offer wheelchair-accessible Port Adventures in more than 25 countries. Not every excursion will be fully accessible — and while there’s certainly room for improvement — but progress is being made.

Accessible Port Adventures typically include vehicles with wheelchair lifts/ramps, attractions and tour routes with no stairs or with elevators, bathrooms with wider doors, and guides familiar with the needs of guests with disabilities. Disney maintains a list of all its accessible Port Adventures .

Best Way to Book Disney Cruise Excursions

If you’re ready to book your Disney Cruise and all your excursions, we highly recommend contacting  The Vacationeer . As  Authorized Disney Vacation Planners , their expert agents will make sure everything on your cruise is taken care of , from rooms to dining to Port Adventures.

Worried about the cost? Don’t be!  Their planning services are completely free and they’ll make sure you get the best possible price on everything .

What’s more, they’ll give you a free onboard credit of up to $1,000 to use for excursions and other shipboard spending.

Add in the convenience of having a single, dedicated travel agent from start to finish , and it’s easy to see why using The Vacationeer is the best way to book your Disney Cruise.

We hope our article has helped you understand more about Disney Cruise excursions in the Bahamas, Caribbean, and Bermuda — and maybe inspired you to explore some of the amazing adventures offered in port during your cruise.

Bon voyage!

The web site wont let me in. So sad. I want to know the ages for the Segway tour.

Hopefully later today it will open a link

Your links work perfectly. I can’t get in through Disney but I can get in through your links. Thanks for posting all of them

Thanks for the reply, you had me worried. I thought you meant my site was not working.

Thank you for posting this since the Disney site is a little slow to the party. LOL Great Job.!!!!

On a ‘sort of’ related topic, how do i know when all port adventures for a particular port are ready and no additional ones will be added?

We are two weeks away from being able to book our port adventures so i assume they are all complete now?

Thanks for the help.

Port adventures are added and subtracted all the time. Normally for new ports of call, all excursions go online the same day. There are some times when a few more are added a day or two later. In those cases, I usually update the post and tweet out the update.

Scott, This is AWESOME! Thanks!! We are so excited for Bermuda! Now to decide what to do!

p.s. Reading your blog always makes me happy, especially when I have a bad day. For that, I thank you!

Disney Cruise Vacation to Bermuda – Day 3

by Living With The Magic Vacations | Nov 30, 2018 | Disney Cruise Line | 0 comments

disney cruise excursions in bermuda

We had finally arrived in Bermuda!!  We originally had booked  resort stay here (not with Disney). Often on these Islands, resorts will offer day passes. We had booked the Coco Reef Resort. Day passes were $104 per adult and $55 per child and included use of their beach, pool and a 3-course lunch. Prior to setting sail the weather looked like it was going to be COLD so we cancelled.

Of course it turned out to be a beautiful day so while onboard we stopped at the Port Adventures Desk and chatted with an amazing cast member who helped us decide on a Disney excursion to Horseshoe Bay. Now something important to know here is that you can grab a taxi or bus for less than $10 per person however it was our first time here and we were traveling with Disney so we wanted to the peace of mind that we had reliable and safe transfers to the beach!

We didn’t have a super early excursion so we opted for Lumiere’s for breakfast…and it was delicious!!

disney cruise excursions in bermuda

After breakfast we packed our beach bags, grabbed our excursion tickets and headed to the theatre where we were instructed to meet up.  We were then taken downstairs and off the ship.  It was a beautiful day with sun and a bit of wind.

Before long we had arrived! There is no cost to visit the beach but they do have a  little shop with souvenirs and drinks, a bar/restaurant and you can rent chairs and umbrella’s.  A beach chair or umbrella rents for $15 each, or two chairs & an umbrella is $40. There is also bathrooms and showers not far from the beach.

Disney Bermuda Cruise Review

Bermuda Coast

Photo of Disney Bermuda Cruise Review by Brook

This year, Disney Cruise Line began offering 4, 5, and 6 night cruises to Bermuda. The Disney Magic sets sail from Manhattan to the beautiful, island in the Atlantic. The ship then remains docked until it sails back to New York. This makes it different from all other Disney Cruises. No other Disney cruise remains in one dock for multiple days.

We recently took a 6 night Disney Bermuda Cruise. Let us share our experience with you.

Embarkation

70 Pine Street, home of our hotel

Photo of Manhattan, New York, NY, USA by Brook

Our cruise left port on Saturday. We had never cruised out of New York City and did not know what to expect. We flagged a taxi at our hotel, Q & A Hotel, on 70 Pine Street. He dropped us off on 12th Avenue across from the terminal. A cool drizzle came down on the October afternoon.

An ad for Marvel's Daredevil on Netflix in front of our ship in Hell's Kitchen. We love Daredevil, which is set in Hell's Kitchen.

Photo of Disney Bermuda Cruise Review by Brook

Our embarkation went both quick and smooth. We were quite surprised. The cruise terminal was clean if not flashy. Everyone greeted us in a friendly Disney fashion. Before we had much of a chance to look around, we had boarded. We headed to Lumiere’s for a table service lunch to get our cruise started while our room was readied.

The Disney Magic

Photo of Disney Bermuda Cruise Review by Brook

We love the Disney Magic! This was our 4th cruise on it. With a maximum capacity of 2400 passengers, the Magic never feels cramped or crowded. Disney hospitality shines on the Magic. It has our favorite combination of restaurants: Animator’s Palette, Lumiere’s, and Rapunzel’s Royal Table.

For in depth details of the Disney Magic, read one of our other reviews: Disney Mediterranean Cruise and Disney TransAtlantic Cruise.

Sailing Out of Manhattan

Manhattan skyline from the Disney Magic

Photo of Disney Bermuda Cruise Review by Brook

Sailing out of New York City was wonderful experience. We only had a day to explore before we set sail, but that was enough to leave us planning a return visit. In that short amount, we easily toured many iconic Financial District sites.

The clouds cleared and the sun appeared on the cool October afternoon that we sat sail. The views sailing down the Hudson River toward the Atlantic Ocean are amazing! Passengers packed the upper decks and the promenade deck to take in the views. We have sailed out of Miami, New Orleans, and Barcelona, but departing from Manhattan was more dramatic.

We slowly eased past wonderful views of the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center. I turned and watched Manhattan fade into the distance; a spectacular site. Moving to the starboard side, Ellis Island greeted us as it has so many before. The Statue of Liberty stood proudly with the sun setting overhead. I will never forget this!

3 Days/2 Nights in Bermuda

Welcome to Bermuda!

Photo of Bermuda by Brook

After a fun-filled day and a half at sea, our ship arrived in Bermuda at about 9 a.m. local time. The Magic docked at the Royal Navy Dockyard at the far western tip of Bermuda. The sun was shining. The sky was clear. The temperature hovered around 80 degrees/27 C. Perfect!

The old military institution has been transformed into a cruise ship port with all the expected trappings. Shops and restaurants fill the old structures. Boats ready for tours and excursions wait in the harbor. Putt putt golf, museums, Dolphin Quest are all right at hand.

A convenient, and free train winds through the dockyards. In itself, the tour is nice. In the afternoon, the dockyards can be hot and humid, so it also provides a nice rest and gentle breeze.

After the initial rush of passengers when our ship or another ship would dock for the first time, everything was calm and laid back. No aggressive vendors, taxi drivers, or tour operators pounced on us. The atmosphere was very casual.

Things to Do in the Day

* Action packed aquatic adventures like parasailing and jet skiing were readily available.

* Snorkeling and Scuba Diving : Cruisers enjoyed exploring not only the coral and sea life, but the bevy of ship wrecks.

A cove at Horseshoe Bay

* Beaches : The beaches of Bermuda are gorgeous! The southern coast from Horseshoe Bay to Warwick Long Bay contains the most stunning stretch of beaches that I have seen.

* Exploring : Brave souls rented motor scooters and zipped around the island. Others chose bicycles . Many took tours. We used the Bus and Ferry system . Bermuda spans only 20 miles from tip to tip and less than a mile wide at most points.

Shops in St. Georges, Bermuda

* Shopping : The Royal Navy Dockyards, Hamilton, and St. Georges all offer unique shopping experiences.

* History : Museums, old forts, churches, and World Heritage Site St. Georges Town Hall entertained the history lover.

Things to Do at Night

Most shops and activities shut down in Bermuda by 5 – 6 p.m.

* Boat Tours sailed along the Northern coast giving views of lights and light houses dotting the coves and hills.

* Dining : Those who wanted could make reservations in one of the many highly rated Bermuda restaurants.

* Night life : With no curfew, passengers could stay out as late as they wanted. The only people who I know that did this were the youthful Disney crew members.

No Curfew or Onboard Time

Unexpected beauty all around

For almost 72 hours, passengers could come and go as they wanted at any time of day. Some chose to catch a stunning sunrise or sunset. Others took predawn walks or runs. After the initial rush ashore upon docking, we all fell into a leisurely mode; coming and going as we wished.

With most things closing at 5 p.m. and with the Disney Magic’s wonderful dining and entertainment, most of us were back on board for evening activities.

What was Bermuda Like?

Bermuda thoroughly impressed us. So much to do is packed into such a small space. The island is beautiful from tip to tip: beaches, hills, bays, and cute towns.

The locals are friendly and gracious; not just the tour guides and vendors, but the people on the streets or riding a bus. We explored the entire island and every bit felt safe. I would not hesitate for my wife or son to go out alone.

While docked in many ports, cruise ships almost shut down. Not the Disney Magic in Bermuda! Activities continued at full pace, day and night. Movies, meet and greets, trivia, whatever you like to do continued. Kids clubs remained open. The full array of lunch options stayed open, too.

In the evening, it was as if you were at sea. Nightly shows, guest entertainers, silent discos, music, and, of coarse, the evening dining rotation continued uninterrupted. The Disney Magic shops remained closed until we headed, but really, nobody cared!

10 foot/3 meter swells barely rocked the ship

Photo of Disney Bermuda Cruise Review by Brook

A hurricane had hit Florida and was heading up the Atlantic coast while we were in Bermuda. Our captain steered the Disney Magic south of the storm. Heading into the storm, we would have encountered 20 feet (over 6 meter) waves! Veering toward North Carolina and then heading north, we missed the worst of it.

We encountered 12 feet/4 meter crests. During the evening, Disney closed the promenade deck for safety purposes. I did not feel the waves, though! The ship did not lurch or jerk. It gently rolled. In bed, it felt like a cradle. We all slept amazingly well. I took photos at the peak, but they are not very impressive.

Disembarking

The U.S.S. Intrepid docked next to the Manhattan cruise terminal

Photo of Disney Bermuda Cruise Review by Brook

We chose to disembark late. We were told that, due to construction, it would take 2 hours to get to LaGuardia to catch our flight home. This did not leave us any time to see any more of Manhattan.

Disembarking in the Manhattan cruise port is one of the easiest that we have done. The area looks and feels like a large warehouse, but was quick and easy. We paid for Disney’s bus transportation to the airport. It took about an hour and a half. We passed by Macy’s and near the Empire State Building. Although the ride took a long time, it was comfortable.

Beautiful Bermuda!

For most travelers, the Disney Bermuda Cruise offers three wonderful, distinct travel opportunities: New York City, a Disney Cruise, and ample time in Bermuda. We found it all to be wonderful!

Although we did not get to see a lot of New York, what we did see left us yearning to return.

Coast of Bermuda

Bermuda is a fabulous destination with beautiful beaches and friendly people. You can easily cover the entire island in three days.

And lastly, the Disney Magic does not disappoint: friendly service, amazing entertainment, and great food all aboard a medium sized ship that does not feel crowded. What more could a traveller wish for?

We highly recommend taking the Disney Bermuda Cruise. A 4 day cruise would leave little time to really explore Bermuda. The 5 or preferably 6 day cruises are better options if you have the time.

The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Disney Cruise Line ship

Gene Sloan

Is a voyage on a Disney Cruise Line ship on your bucket list? You'll find a growing number of options when it comes time to pick an itinerary.

While the cruising arm of Disney has long focused mostly on voyages to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, with year-round sailings to those destinations out of Florida, it also now offers a relatively wide range of seasonal sailings to Alaska, the Mexican Riviera, Bermuda, Europe and Canada.

The family-friendly cruise brand, notably, is expanding its footprint worldwide as it adds four new vessels in quick succession.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Already, the first of those ships, the 2,508-passenger Disney Wish , has arrived, boosting the size of the Disney fleet from four ships to five and allowing for more departures to the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe.

Two more sister vessels to Disney Wish are due to begin sailing in 2024 and 2025, respectively, allowing for further expansion in Disney cruise itineraries. In addition, the line has yet another new vessel coming in 2025 that isn't related to the other three. Called Disney Adventure, it's a one-off vessel originally designed for an Asian line , and it'll sail in Asia (perhaps catering mostly to Asian travelers; Disney has been mum so far on the target audience for it).

All these new ships arriving in quick succession will likely mean not just more departures to destinations where Disney Cruise Line is established but also sailings in new regions. For example, Disney has never before offered Asia sailings.

Here are our picks for the five best Disney cruise destinations you can visit with your family.

Caribbean and Bahamas

disney cruise excursions in bermuda

Disney Cruise Line's top destination has always been the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Since its founding more than two decades ago, the brand has based the bulk of its fleet in Florida to offer sailings to the islands. Port Canaveral, which is just an hour away from Disney's Orlando-area theme parks, has always been its biggest hub.

The line is particularly known for three- and four-night cruises out of Port Canaveral to Castaway Cay and Nassau in the Bahamas. These short getaways let families get a taste of Disney cruising that some Disney fans pair with a stay at Disney World.

The cruise line also regularly offers seven-night sailings out of Port Canaveral that visit Caribbean islands like St. Thomas and Tortola.

Related: First look at Disney Wish in photos

In recent years, Disney has also built up its Caribbean and Bahamas cruise offerings from other ports in Florida — initially Miami and, more recently, Fort Lauderdale. The ships the line has based in these ports typically offer four- and five-night sailings to Castaway Cay and one other port, such as Cozumel or Grand Cayman.

In addition, Disney is offering a growing number of Caribbean sailings out of Galveston, Texas, and New Orleans.

For 2024, the line will have four of its five ships — Disney Wish, Disney Dream, Disney Magic and Disney Fantasy — sailing to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of one of the above ports, with their home bases often shifting between them.

Disney Wish, which is Disney's newest ship, will be based in Port Canaveral year-round to operate the line's classic three- and four-night sailings to the Bahamas. These voyages are designed to be paired with a visit to nearby Disney World for a longer Disney vacation.

Disney Fantasy will also sail out of Port Canaveral to the Bahamas and Caribbean year-round, offering longer voyages.

Disney Dream will spend the start and the end of the year sailing short trips to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale, with a stint in the middle of the year (from May to October) sailing in Europe.

Disney Magic will take Disney Dream's place sailing short trips to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale from May to October. During the early and late months of the year, it'll sail out of Galveston.

Come 2025, Disney will have four ships — Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish, Disney Dream and Disney Magic — sailing three- to five-night getaways from Florida to the line's Bahamian destinations, including its new private beach destination Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point and its long-open private island Disney Castaway Cay. Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish will operate the trips from Port Canaveral, while Disney Dream and Disney Magic will sail from Fort Lauderdale.

Before taking up residence in Florida in April 2025, Disney Magic will also offer three months' worth of sailings out of Galveston, Texas, to Progreso and Cozumel in Mexico and Grand Cayman.

All of the 2025 sailings are already open for bookings.

Disney has cut back on voyages out of San Diego for 2024, after increasing its San Diego departures sharply in 2023. But it still offers several trips to Mexico out of the city on Disney Wonder.

For 2024, the 1,754-passenger vessel will offer a mix of three- to seven-night sailings to Mexico during March and April. Shorter three- and four-night sailings typically feature calls at Ensenada, Mexico, and California's Catalina Island. Seven-night sailings include calls at Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.

Related: 11 ways to save money on a Disney cruise

The big factor driving Disney's cutbacks on sailings out of San Diego in 2024 is its new focus on voyages out of Australian ports. Disney Wonder will spend much of January and February sailing out of Australian ports and then return to the region in October for another season of Australia trips.

disney cruise excursions in bermuda

Disney offers a wide variety of itineraries in Europe every summer, from Mediterranean voyages out of Barcelona and Civitavecchia, Italy (the port for Rome), to Northern Europe sailings out of Southampton, England.

Ranging from seven to 11 nights, Disney's Europe voyages each year typically take place on a single ship that sails from multiple home ports throughout the season. For 2024, that ship will be the 2,500-passenger Disney Dream. The line has yet to announce which of its ships will go to Europe in 2025.

Typical for the shorter itineraries the line offers in Europe are seven-night sailings out of Civitavecchia to the Greek Islands. These sailings stop in Mykonos, Santorini and Crete in Greece, as well as Naples, Italy.

Related: 17 tips for sailing on Disney Cruise Line

A longer, 11-night itinerary starting in Civitavecchia and ending in Barcelona includes calls at Piraeus (the port for Athens), Santorini and Mykonos in Greece; Messina (on the island of Sicily), Naples and Livorno in Italy; and Toulon, France.

Among Northern Europe itineraries, Disney offers focused, weeklong sailings to Norway with calls at the Norwegian ports of Alesund, Nordfjordeid, Eidfjord and Stavanger.

disney cruise excursions in bermuda

Disney does not have a large presence in Alaska. The line sends just one ship to Alaska each year. Family-friendly cruise rivals Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line, by contrast, each send three ships to Alaska each year, and Norwegian Cruise Line sends five vessels to the destination.

Still, Disney fans won't feel like they're missing out. The one vessel Disney sends to Alaska each year, the 1,754-passenger Disney Wonder, stays for nearly the entire summer season, from late June to mid-September and offers a distinctly Disney take on The Last Frontier.

Always beginning and ending in Vancouver, British Columbia, and lasting seven nights, Disney's Alaska sailings typically include stops at three of these four Alaska ports: Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and Icy Strait Point (which three vary by departure date). Itineraries also include a visit to Stikine Icecap, which is south of Juneau.

Related: 5 reasons Disney cruises aren't just for kids

These are fairly typical ports for an Alaska cruise. But the (extra-charge) activities that Disney has organized for the ports aren't always the same as what other lines offer.

As one might expect for Disney, the line has crafted some of its shore excursions in Alaska ports with special Disney touches, such as Disney character appearances at the Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp & Salmon Bake tour in Ketchikan. (Having done this one myself, I will say, for the record, that it's a little hokey; but it does get you a Disney character fix if that's your aim.)

Another shore excursion with a Disney touch is the outdoor Family Scavenger Hunt at Icy Strait Point, where participants join a local guide on a hunt for items such as clam shells and native plants, as well as a "special surprise" with a Disney theme.

Unlike many lines, Disney does not offer one-way sailings to Alaska from Vancouver or Seattle that can be paired with add-on land tours to create an extended sea-and-land Alaska vacation — something known as a "cruisetour." If that's what you're looking for, and you want to stick with a family-friendly line, you might want to consider the one-way cruisetour offerings from Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line.

Disney typically offers at least one and sometimes several cruises to Bermuda each fall, ranging from quick, five-night trips to longer, eight-night sailings.

For the year just ending (2023), the line offered four such sailings, and it's offered even more than that in certain years. Alas, for the coming year (2024), Disney currently does not have a single Bermuda sailing scheduled — a bit of an anomaly.

That said, we would expect Disney to bring back its Bermuda sailings for 2025 or 2026. It's been such a mainstay of the brand.

So ... stay tuned.

Bottom line

Family-friend Disney Cruise Line is a relatively small cruise brand, with just five ships (one of its biggest rivals in the family cruise market, Royal Caribbean, has 26 vessels). But that doesn't mean its itinerary choices are limited. The line offers regular sailings to the Caribbean and Bahamas, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Bermuda and Europe.

Trip Report: September 25, 2019 5 Night to Bermuda on the Disney Magic – Day 3

Day 3:  Bermuda

I woke up this morning at 8:30 from the major noise and vibrations that occur on deck 2 aft when the ship’s thrusters are operating – so, whenever it is pulling into or out of a port.  You can read more details about it here in my stateroom review, but suffice to say that it is LOUD.  All Ashore was 10:00 AM, but the docking process started at 8:30 and the noise/vibrations were still going strong at 9:15 when my husband and I went up to Cabanas for coffee and pastries. We brought the food back to the rooms and surprisingly enough, the girls were sleeping through all of it.

We all ate and got ready for the day.  We had booked the Restless Native port adventure through DCL, but our meeting time was not until 1:00. So, I went to deck 4 to check out Bermuda and take some pictures.

The ocean was just as pretty as the Caribbean:

This is the building that all cruise passengers have to pass through:

Next I decided to go check out the view from deck 10.  On the way, I noticed that they were doing some work with some of the life boats:

At the bottom of this picture, you can clearly see the area where taxis & mini-buses pick up and drop off cruise passengers:

There was one other ship in port with us:

When we walked by the atrium, there was no one in it so I got some good photos:

We went to Cabanas right when it opened at 11:45 to get some lunch as it was not included in our port adventure. My favorite things for lunch in Cabanas are the shrimp, pasta dishes, and salads.  Tip: behind the salad bars are 3-4 prepared salads that vary daily and are delicious!  They are easy to miss.  Below, the couscous salad was one of them.

I just noticed that you can see my hand sanitizer in the photo above.  This type is one of only 3 or 4 that actually kills norovirus.  We use it after visiting the buffet and touching all the utensils.  I order mine on Amazon, I’ll put the link here . It is a liquid spray instead of a gel, so it doesn’t leave a residue on your hands or dry them out.

After lunch we went back to the rooms to gather our bags and get ready for our port adventure, the Restless Native Catamaran through DCL.  First, a little background about how I chose this excursion.  We like to do boat charters in tropical ports, and we have done some amazing private charters in the past (you san see my excursion reviews here ).  I researched some private charter options, but nothing jumped out at me.  The prices were also a bit higher than the Caribbean (FYI Bermuda is a very expensive island – more on that later).  During my research I came across the Restless Native Catamaran.  While it is available for private charters, it was not available the day we would be there because it is used for a DCL port adventure.  I read a lot of glowing reviews about it and decided to take my chances and book it.

At 1:00, we went to our meeting place for our port adventure, the Walt Disney Theater.  They had a table set up outside the theater where everyone checks in and gets their stickers.  We were in the yellow Mickey group.

Once inside the theater, we were directed to sit in a certain row based on our stickers.

Now it was time for one of my least favorite things about DCL port adventures – the waiting.  I have been on some in the past where there was tons of waiting in several different locations.  This is one of the reasons I am hesitant to book DCL port adventures.  Another is that they are almost always way more expensive than booking the exact same thing on your own (which is not always an option, but it is sometimes).  Luckily, today there was almost no waiting.  Our whole group must have arrived on time because at 1:02, we were directed to walk out of the theater and down to deck 1 to disembark.  There were towel carts at the exit, so we each grabbed 2 as we walked past. We walked off the ship and followed the yellow Mickey paddle.

We walked right past the area where you get a taxi or mini-bus to take you into town:

We also passed this Bermuda sign:

Today we were in port with the Serenade of the Seas:

We approached a harbor and saw some jet skis:

Even though 2 hurricanes had passed very close to Bermuda within the last 2 weeks, the only sign of damage I saw were a few lamp posts missing their tops and this canopy:

After a very short walk, we reached our catamaran:

The boat is pink because part of the proceeds go towards breast cancer research.  Being a breast cancer survivor, I really appreciated this. Turning back towards the Magic, you can see the distance we had walked:

We boarded the boat, stashed our bags and towels down below, and settled in.

We set sail pretty quickly and one of the guides began sharing information about Bermuda.  The most memorable thing he told us was how expensive it is to live there, because everything has to be shipped in.  They do not have any agriculture on the island.  He said that the average house price is 1.7 million (he lived with his parents, understandably), a gallon of gas is $10 and a loaf of bread is $8.  I think he also said a case of beer is $60.  He said that tourism only accounts for 5% of their economy, which surprised me.  Banking and financial services account for 85%. They have a very high standard of living. If we ever make it back, I would love to do an island tour.

We had a great view of the Magic:

At one point they hoisted the sail:

It was a beautiful day with temperatures in the 70’s.  There was a little wind and the water was a tiny bit choppy, but the ride was still enjoyable.

After a short sail, we arrived in a cove where we would drop anchor. We could still see the Magic!  Look closely:

The crew gave us instructions for snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding and told us all of the safety rules. Everyone started to get in the water.  These are the stairs for the water access:

The water was COLD! It makes sense since we were in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, but oh my goodness!  Then again, I am a southern girl and I think water colder than 78 is freezing.  Those from northern climates might have thought this was normal.

The cove was just beautiful. It was shallow enough to stand in most places.

These 3 were the only ones in our family brave enough to get submerged and snorkel.  I got in up to my waist, and the other child actually stayed on the boat the whole time!

They swam over to the rocks to snorkel as instructed, but didn’t see much of anything – a few fish and a few pieces of coral.  We have snorkeled in some amazing spots, so this was rather unimpressive. After the snorkelers came back, we grabbed a paddleboard. I prefer to be lazy and hitch a ride – our oldest was happy to paddle.

Here’s the wimp watching from the boat:

After a while I noticed these 2 hugging the shore.  There was a pretty strong wind and she was having a hard time paddling against it.  This was only her second time to paddleboard so she was not great at steering.

I was pretty close by, so they yelled at me and asked me to come get them and pull them closer to the boat before they drifted away.

Mom to the rescue!

Once she was close to the boat again, she kept going.

I love this shot of the Magic peeking through!

This one decided to get back on the boat.  She had cut the bottom of her foot on some coral while snorkeling, so one of the crew members got a first aid kit and bandaged her up.

The crew had baked chocolate chips cookies and were passing them out to the guests.  There was also a cash bar onboard, but rum swizzles (the national drink of Bermuda, or so we were told) were complimentary after snorkeling.

Eventually our oldest was the only one of our family still in the water, and she was paddle boarding away.  She was having some difficulty steering and almost took out a few people.  Her sister was happy to get this on video from the boat.  She almost ran into a man floating on a noodle, me, and a snorkeler, and then ate it when she crossed over the boat’s anchor line.  Watch until the end for the wipe out!

Eventually the crew rounded everyone up because it was time to head back to shore.  The sail back was a bit more chilly as some clouds had rolled in.  When the sun was out it was okay, but once the sun went behind the clouds we were shivering a bit.

I don’t think this one had ever met a boat that didn’t put her to sleep:

And this one is ALWAYS reading!

Before we knew it we were back in the harbor and began walking towards the Magic.

We tried for a picture at the Bermuda sign, but the sun was at a bad angle.

We returned to the ship at about 5:00.  The gangway was forward, and our rooms were aft so we went to deck 3 to walk the length of the ship. I got another picture of the Halloween decor:

We ordered some room service, put on a movie, and started taking turns showering.  It is so nice having 2 showers!

Only 2 of us were ready in time to make the evening show at 6:15, which was “Twice Charmed”.  My husband and middle daughter went while the rest of us stayed in the room.  It had been 5 years since we had seen the show, and they really enjoyed it.

Eventually, our youngest asked if she and I could go sit in the portholes on deck 3 in After Hours.  She loves hanging out there and doing cartwheels in the hallway when no one is around. While I was sitting, this guy appeared:

I love how well DCL maintains their ships! At some point, we went back to the room and on the way took this picture.  The first day, we had seen Danny, our room host from our very first cruise 6 1/2 years ago.  He had the section of rooms right next to ours so we passed him in the hall many times a day (for 10 days!).  The thing I remember most about Danny is how happy and positive he is – he is literally ALWAYS smiling, asking about our day, and making us laugh.  He’s one of those people that puts a smile on your face no matter what your mood, and just radiates happiness.  We were so glad to see him again, and we recreated this picture from our first cruise in 2013:

I hope we see Danny again!

At 8:15 we went to dinner in Rapunzel’s Royal Table.  There was not a show tonight, and I’m pretty sure that this night all 3 dining rooms had the same menu.

The Argentinian Empanadas (excellent):

These were SO good, especially if you like cumin, which I do.

The Vietnamese Spring Roll (good):

The Indian Prawn Curry (excellent):

The Swiss Pork Tenderloin Medallions (good):

I think some of us must have skipped dessert tonight because I only have 2 pictures.  This was the Canadian Ice Cream Sundae (great):

And the Sacher Torte (good):

After dinner I went to decks 4 and 10 because I wanted to see Bermuda at night.  I don’t think we have ever been in port at night before.  We have definitely never stayed overnight in a port before.

Part of me wanted to disembark and explore the port area at night, but part of me was too tired.  The tired part won. I also got this great shot near the shops:

Deck 9 was deserted:

At 11:00, some of us went to Family Superstar Karaoke in the D Lounge.  I’m surprised we made it that late. Then it was off to bed.  Our plans for the next day were to visit Horseshoe Bay Beach on our own.  Will we make it?  Stay tuned!

So many fantastic photos in this post! I love the pictures of the Magic peeking through during your Port Adventure. How fun! It’s as thought they parked the catamaran that way to bring yall extra joy. 😉 I especially like the one of it peeking through behind your oldest while she is reading. And oh my goodness those two photos with Danny!!! Was he so delighted to get to take that photo again?! I bet the crew members don’t get that experience very often. And how old were your kiddos when you allowed them to start staying up for the 10:00 PM+ family karaoke?

Loving this trip report!!! 🙂

November 7, 2019 at 3:01 pm

Hi Elizabeth! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the trip report. We let our girls stay up as late as they want on cruises. The middle (karaoke child) has always been a night owl so it has never been an issue for her, and she started doing karaoke when she was probably 8 or 9. The other 2 only join us for karaoke sometimes and typically choose to go to bed instead.

We did the Restless Native catamaran as well when we were there just after you for the DVC cruise! We loved it (despite the water being cold as you mentioned lol) My husband and eldest were in the water for ages, my youngest stayed on board the entire time and I went in a couple of times up to my waist and then gave up lol We did a morning excursion (started at 8:45am on our second day) and let’s just say that several rum swizzles by 11am made for a lovely afternoon nap 😉
